Her parents took Y/N out to lunch and she spent the afternoon with them at the mall. She watched a movie, did some shopping, and was now ready to go home to her boyfriend. She opens the front door to find rose petals leading into the dining room. The house is filled with the aromatic smell of spices from her favourite meal. Creamy Thyme Chicken with Sautéed Apples and Mushrooms. She pads her way toward the candle-lit dinner and Rafe is standing over the table, pouring wine into glasses for them. “Happy Birthday, Baby,” he wishes with a smile. He comes around the table to take the bags out of her hands and kisses her lips. The bags drop to the floor by the archway. She grins at him, “Thank you. Dinner looks delicious.” He pulls the chair out for her and pushes it in once she is seated. “You’re welcome. What did you do after I dropped you off?” he questions. Y/N and Rafe had an early breakfast together before going to the beach to spend time on the sand. It was too cold for them to go swimming. There, he gave her her gift of a necklace with his initials on it. She takes her utensils in her hands, “We had lunch at the country club and then we watched that new rom-com that came out yesterday. I did some shopping too. What have you been doing?”
They begin eating and Rafe’s leg reaches out under the table to twine with one of hers. “I’ve been preparing for all of this. I went grocery shopping because I didn’t want to buy the ingredients early and have you figure out my plan. It took me a while to figure everything out,” he replies. Her eyes look up from her dinner to stare at him through her lashes, “Well, thank you for going through all this trouble for me.” “No problem, Baby. Anything for my girl, especially on her birthday,” he says, leaning across the table to kiss her.
The meal is finished over the course of an hour. The lovers take the time to talk to and be with each other. After dinner, he lets her help clean up because he knows she just wants to spend time with him. They finish the dishes and she orders him to stay downstairs. She dashes upstairs with the shopping bags she brought home, changing into a certain outfit she bought for today. She returns downstairs and watches the growing boner in her boyfriend’s pants. She motions towards it, “I see you like my gift to you.” He nods vigorously and beckons her forward. “It’s your birthday. I should be showering you in gifts,” he points out, pulling her onto his lap. She sits back on his knees as she straddles him. Her hands play with the hairs on the back of his neck, “I can think of a few ways that you can give me more presents and they could all be given right now.” “I think there are too. I think we have maybe five more gifts for me to give you,” he agrees against her lips. She giggles, “Five. That’s a lot.” “What can I say I’m a generous man,” he teases. They spend the night making passionate love by the candle-lit.

December, 2018.
Artemis has discovered something new.
He has discovered old videos from Harry from when he was in the band. At first, he was confused as to why Harry wasn’t alone in the videos he watched like in the ones he was used to see. So Artemis did what always did when he was confused: ask.
Conveniently, Harry was invited to dinner at their house, and the first thing Artemis did when he crossed the door, was tell him. “Harry, I saw you on the TV!”
“You did? Did I look good?” He asked cheekily, sitting next to him on the sofa.
“Watch!” He turned on the television and pointed to it.
Harry chuckled when he saw his young self in the Best Song Ever music video along with the rest of his former band mates. “That’s you!” He said excitedly, clapping with his small hands.
“Yeah, buddy. I was in a band before.” Harry was happy Artemis seemed interested.
“What’s his name?” He asked, pointing one of the guys.
“The blonde one?” Harry questioned, receiving a nod from the small boy beside him. “That’s Niall.”
“He’s so cool.” He commented, kicking his legs back and forth on the couch. “He does music like you?” He asked.
“Yes, he does, mate.”
“He’s my favorite.” He decided.
“Oi! I am supposed to be your favorite!” He pretended to be offended, taking him in his arms and tickling him and making him let out a belly laugh.
“Stop! Stop!” He said in between giggles. “Harry, I’m gonna pee!”
“Say I’m your favorite.”
“You’re… you are… I can’t talk!” He laughed again and Harry stopped but didn’t let him go. “You’re my favorite, Harry.”
Harry smiled, pleased with himself for getting the validation from an almost five year old. “Go wash up, it's almost dinner time." Artemis ran to the bathroom in the hallway as Harry walled towards the kitchen where Y/N was.
"I was a little behind but it's ready now."
"I'd help you, but you banned me from the kitchen the second i got in." The curly-haired man wrapped his hands from behind around Y/N's waist, resting his chin on her shoulder.
"It was because Artemis has been wanting to tell you he saw the band on the TV all afternoon." She giggled, putting the knife down and turning around to face him. "He asked why your hair looked weird."
"Wha'?" He asked, his accent getting noticeably thicker. "What was wrong with me hair?"
"He didn't like the long haired look." She passed a hand through his now much shorter curls.
"And apparently Niall's his favorite, can you believe?" Harry asked in a fake offended tone.
"Artemis likes blondes because he has blonde hair, kid's logic."
"Should i dye mine?" Harry's tone now was playful, grabbing a couple of his curls.
"Please, no."

A week after dinner, Harry was scrolling down his phone desperately, trying to find the perfect gift for Artemis.
He had invited Harry to his birthday party, and although he was nervous to meet the rest of Y/N's relatives, he was more excited to spend this day with his girlfriend and her son. It would be the first time he was there to celebrate Artemis' birthday, so he wanted it to be perfect.
And a perfect day required the perfect gift.
He just didn't know what to buy. "Doesn't he like Legos? Buy him a set." Mitch said, trying to help. They were currently in a break from a writing session and almost everyone was out to get food.
"There isn't a set he doesn't have." Harry groaned, running out of options.
"What else does he like?"
"Books, robots, music..." He paused, suddenly getting an idea. "He likes music!"
"Buy him an instrument or something." Harry rolled his eyes, letting out a he's five to Mitch. "So?! Better start them young."
"Perhaps. But for now i think i have the perfect idea." Mitch looked confused, but Harry’s smile only grew bigger.
He wrapped up the session early and called a friend to see if they could catch up while having some drinks. His right leg shocked in anticipation, looking around trying to find that one familiar face he hasn’t seen in a while.
“Styles!” Harry smiled at that unmistakably Irish accent. “It’s been so long!” The pair hugged each other.
“Far too long. How have you been?” They took a seat on the table Harry was previously sitting on.
“Pretty great actually, tour ended a little while ago but stills feels very fresh.” He sighed. “What about you? Heard you’re dating someone.” Niall sent him a smirk, wiggling his eyebrows playfully.
Harry breathed a laugh, touching the bridge of his nose. “I am, met her at the beginning of the year. Her name is Y/N.”
“Look at you, you’re blushing!”
“Stop it!” Harry giggle, followed by Niall. “She has a kid, he’s great. They’re great.”
“I’m happy for you, H.” The blonde man gave him a genuine smile. “Is it serious?”
“Pretty much. So Artemis, Y/N’s son, is turning five next Saturday and I’ve been trying to get him the perfect gift.”
“Any luck so far?”
“Not really.” He shook his head. “That’s why I wanted to talk to you.”
“How can I help?” He readjusted himself on his seat.
“Well, I wanted to ask you a favor.” He paused. “The other day he found the band and said, for some reason, you were his favorite.”
“Ooh, and that how made you feel?” Niall teased him, knowing he didn’t like to be second in anything, especially talking about his girlfriend’s son.
“Delightful, next question.” He rolled his eyes playfully and Niall let out a big laugh.
“So want do you want me to do then?”
“Are you free next Saturday?”

Niall's appearance was a surprise, even for Y/N. He'd arrive later than Harry, just in time to sing happy birthday to Artemis. In the meantime Harry had to make sure everything else was perfect.
He was in charge to pick the cake up from the shop before heading to Y/N's mums' house. He already knew Ally and Ella, and they seemed to really like him so he felt a little less nervous.
Y/N told him a bunch of her friends were gonna be there, including Adam and his family so that was also nice. Harry wasn't very familiar with all of her friends but from what she always tells him, they're good people who care for her and Artemis.
Harry didn't have a key or anything so he knocked the door with one hand while holding the cake with the other. Ella opened the door, grinning at him right away. "Harry! It's so good to see you, love."
"Likewise, Ella." The woman pinched Harry's cheeks before letting him in. "Where should I put this?"
"In the kitchen! There's kids running around and we don't want them to drop the cake."
He did what she said and walked towards the kitchen, finding Ally decorating some cupcakes. "What do you think?" She took one out of the plate and showed it to him.
"Looks great. You've been practicing with the fondant." The cupcakes had a little whale on top of them, made with blue fondant.
"I made turtles, whales, crabs... Oh! Look at this little octopus!" Ally was so excited every single decoration turned out perfect, as her designated was getting the pastries done. "Y/N's changing Artemis's clothes in the guest room if you want to go upstairs with them."
He nodded, heading out of the kitchen and taking a quick look to the backyard. There were some people sitting on tables and a couple of children running around, but no one he knew so he listened to Ally and went up to look for his loves.
He knocked the door and heard Y/N say 'come in!' so that's what he did. "Harry!" Artemis exclaimed, trying to run towards him but Y/N stopped him.
"Stay still, baby. I'm trying to tie your shoes." She was knelt down in front of him, putting his shoes on. “Hi, honey.” She looked up at Harry as he bent down to give her a little peck on her lips.
“How’s the birthday boy?” Harry sat next to him on the bed and wrapped his arms around him gently.
“Did you see everyone, Harry? They’re here for me!” He said excitedly. He might be say, but he sure as hell likes the attention of his loved ones.
Harry chuckled, messing up his hair a little. “Happy birthday, mate. Couldn’t wait until it was time to open the rest of the presents, so here’s mine.” He handed him a small box wrapped nicely with a bow on the top.
Artemis took it excitedly and was about to tear the wrapping paper apart but Y/N took his hand gently. “What do we say to Harry, darling?”
“Thank you, Harry!” Artemis threw himself at the older man. “Can I open it?”
“Of course, it’s yours.” Artemis offered him a toothy smile, opening the box. Inside there was a package of professional colors, there was one in every shade. “I know how much you like your color books, and these are the best colors ever.”
“Wow, thank you, Harry. I love them.” The small boy hugged him one more time. “Look, mummy!”
“I see, they’re so pretty.”
Artemis hugged Harry once more before hopping off the bed. “Can I go with nana Ally now?”
“Yes, but leave your gift here, okay?” He nodded before handing his mum the box and running out of the room and off to find his nana. “Did you seriously buy professional colors to a five year old?” She asked with a smile, shaking her head in disbelief.
“What? He loves to paint.”
“Thank you.” Y/N said, kissing Harry’s cheek. “It was very sweet of you.”
Harry gave her a dimpled smile. “You look stunning, love.” Y/N was wearing a long, white summer dress with little sunflowers on it, paired with some heels.
“So do you.” She gave him another kiss. “Let’s go, I’ll introduce you to everyone.”
Going around greeting everyone, Harry had a hold on his phone all the time making sure Niall had the right address to get there in time. Y/N’s mums made a perfect job decorating the backyard, there were balloons everywhere and the tables had different marine animals on the center.
Artemis loved the ocean a lot, considering he lived in London and there wasn’t many beaches to go, he liked watching pictures and documentaries of it. So Y/N thought that instead of taking him to the ocean, she brought the ocean to him.
“Harry, sweetie, would you take the cake out of the fridge and bring it to the table?”
He nodded and went inside again. At the same time he was crossing the door, someone rang the doorbell so Harry went straight to open it, eager for Niall to arrive. “Didn’t want to show up empty handed so I bought the lad a little something. It’s a train set.” Niall said as soon as Harry opened the door.
“I’m glad you made it, mate.” They hugged and Harry closed the door behind them. “We’re about to cut the cake, he’ll be so happy to meet you.”
Harry was so excited for this surprise, ever since Artemis ‘discovered’ his band, he’s been obsessed with Niall so the curly-haired man couldn’t wait to see the look in Artemis’ face when he sees the blonde man walking into his party. He grabbed the cake before leading Niall outside where everyone was.
Y/N was the first one to notice the new man walking in, and her eyes grew wider when she recognized him. She walked towards them with a confused smile on her face. “Harry?”
“You must be Y/N.” The Irish man said with a grin. “Hope it’s okay that I’m here.”
“Uh, yeah. It’s great. Nice to meet you.” She offered him her hand for him to shake.
“I brought Niall to surprise Artemis.” Harry said proudly.
“Oh my, he’s going to be so happy, let me bring him over here.” Y/N went off to find her son. She’d never expect Harry to actually bring Niall for Artemis but it was a very sweet, thoughtful thing. “Honey, come here. There’s someone who wants to meet you.”
The five year old stopped running and walked towards his mum to take her hand and let her lead him to where Niall and Harry were. When he spotted Niall, he got all shy and hid behind her legs, like he always did when he got nervous.
Niall noticed it and crunched down to his eye level. “Hi, bud. A little bird told me you liked my music.” Artemis looked at him with big doe eyes, curious to know what was in the box Niall was holding. “Happy birthday, mate.” He handed him the gift and Artemis shyly took it from him.
“Thank you, sir.”
“Oh my god, he’s adorable.” Niall said, looking up to Y/N and Harry. “Call me Niall, okay? It’s nice to meet you, buddy.”
Artemis finally smiled at him, letting go of the hold he had on his mum’s dress. He came closer to Niall and started talking, Y/N and Harry looked at each other as she took one of his hands in hers to intertwine their fingers.
It was time to cute the cake and Artemis was stood on a chair behind it with Y/N by his side and everyone around him. She motioned Harry to come stand with them and he gladly did so. They sang happy birthday to Artemis and the boy had a big, toothy smile on his face the whole time.
Eventually the guests started to leave, but Artemis didn’t let Niall go before giving him a big, tight hug before making him promise they’d see each other again. Just before all the guests left, Artemis fell asleep and Harry had to take him upstairs to the room Y/N’s mums had for him. When he came down again, everyone was gone and his girlfriend was just finishing picking up some things outside so he went out to help her.
“Did you see how happy he was the whole day?” She said.
“Yeah, he enjoyed it.”
“It was really thoughtful of you to bring Niall, you know?” Y/N walked towards him and wrapped her arms around his waist. “He was very excited for it.”
“It was my pleasure, love to see him smile.”
“Thank you.” She told him, cupping his face with her hands.
“For what?”
“Today was good, but you definitely made it better. So thank you.”
Harry smiled happily before leaning down to capture her lips on a sweet kiss, making her smile against his lips. It was good to finally feel he belonged somewhere, and slowly started to feel they were becoming his own family. He’d never deny the way his heart skipped a beat every time Artemis laughed, or when Y/N smiled. Harry found himself wanting to be forever there for the two of them, for every single birthday, anniversary, everything.
He was in love not only with Y/N but with Artemis too, and he knew that feeling was never gonna go away.

that’s some next level catering to a yt person. reasons will become more clear as we go along for the ride. esp hurtful bc of everything going on in the last year alone. twinkie never rang more true until this year.
one. around xmas 2020:
“whatre you doing for nye”
“oh im going out to a small gathering”
“oh with who?”
“I DONT HAVE TO TELL YOU”
“whoa. okay...”
i was just asking since he NEVER wanted to go out to anything related to NYE in the five years. the reply was always, “YOU can go, i will be at home.” so see how i can be confused? also the spanish/grapes tradition? what happened to never not doing it? “oh last year really sucked so i dont see how doing it will help” cop out.
two. NYE to ring in 2021:
“how does this look?”
“i think you should button it, looks more put together”
little did i know i was helping him dress to impress new girl. that in itself was just rude and so disrespectful to me. if you’re going to see someone new. figure it out yourself.
a few days later he decides to finally tell me bc he knows he’s been acting so damn weird. but i dont think it’s bc he respects me too much (his rationale). i actually think it’s bc he feels guilty, and telling me will make HIM feel better, which was the driving factor for the previous Oct when he was not letting me pay for packing supplies and helping me pack. “it’s time (for me to start dating again)... weren’t you dating someone when you asked me about the boat noodles?” “NO. i was talking to someone and it was ONE date, which conveniently fit in the schedule while on my way home.”
three. a week before my bday:
“how was your weekend? what did you do?”
“oh K and family drove down in an RV so i was at my parents’ house”
“you went over both days?!”
“yeah”
“did you take pics of the RV or with family?”
“no”
in retrospect, i wonder if she was intro’d to the whole family that weekend. esp after seeing the pics from first friends gathering a few weeks later (two down).
sometime this week, he tells me that he’s thinking of taking june 1 off bc he wants to take me out to lunch for my bday. my bday is 5/31. so i’m like huh, cos it’s the day after. it’s the weekend. he doesn’t like to talk to ppl on the weekend.
four. my birthday:
bcb calls me in the morning but i miss it bc i wasn’t up yet. i called back at 230p or so and he doens’t pick up. calls me back around 430p and says he was at a bbq with some friends.
i believe this was when my spidey senses started tingling again. i bit my tongue and didn’t ask during lunch the next day bc it would make for such an awkward ride home. and me thinking oh he spent my actual birthday with new girl. i see.
five. convo from last week:
“whatre you doing this weekend?”
“oh i’m getting together with the guys bc it’s the first time we’re seeing each other since the pandemic started”
“ohh okay tell them i said hi!”
BET HE DID NOT TELL THEM I SAID HI. *side eye
six. social media that night, pics happened to pop up as i was doom-scrolling:
bcb likes to untag himself in things so i duno if R tagged him at all or if it was removed after he received the tag notif so that i wouldn’t see it.
either way, i was hit in both places since it’s posted on more than one platform.
wasn’t sure if they were still dating until i saw the pics. was finally able to put a face to the name. the name bc someone mentioned it to me thinking i knew her first AND last name. how absurd. why would i know this bit of info to begin with? maybe bcb needs to be more clear with what he’s telling his sibling about his dating life and how that relates to how he’s treating me.
seven. thursday, 6/17:
convo #1: in the afternoon -
“hey whatre you doing friday?”
“i’m not sure yet, why?”
“i’m having lunch with a family friend, thinking i could stop by (before my family dinner) since i’ll be in the area.”
“oh i was thinking of going to my parents house but i haven’t decided yet.”
“oh, okay”
convo #2: on my way home from dinner in the city -
“did you decide if you’re going to your parents house tmrw?”
“i’m probably going to hang out with some friends”
“oh okay.”
realized “friends’ is codeword for new girl.
oddities in behavior:
bought a new bike even tho he won’t use the rowing machine he purchased last summer that is LITERALLY sitting in his apt, doesn’t even need to go outside and see ppl. how many more times will he use it? not sure. it depends on how much how big the drive in proving me wrong is for this sort of thing.
watches hockey now. NEVER watched it before nor was he super interested. seems like he picked it up recently so there’s something to talk about if nothing else. (after breaking his NYE tradition)
went to a playoff game on a WEEKDAY. HE NEVER did that. to DRIVE to LI on a weekday for that sort of thing. complained that the tix were exp ($200+ each). and i’m like then why did you get them? “well they’re for the playoffs” “oh i didnt think you even liked hockey” i’m going to guess he paid for it bc someone wanted to go, and a topic they can connect on.
for trips and tickets to things, i usually split down the line and exclude a trip dinner or a few smaller things bc he says he got it and would like to pay for it. not sure yt ppl would offer to pay back in general. it’s an asian thing to offer/not let others always cover no matter how generous we know them to be. it’s to “not take advantage” bc we know better. and it’s considered rude to have someone else pay all the time.
at this point, it’s the emotional part that i’m supplementing (if it’s a missing piece) bc i have no idea if hes ever talked to her in regards to concerns about his life in general or if he’s still putting up some facade and only wants her to see the presentable side.
he didnt do his usual NYE tradition of the grapes this year on top of GOING OUT to something with other ppl present. he would rather invite ppl over to his place and provide entertainment and food instead of ever going out there. that is MAJOR.i cannot even begin to explain how impt doing this is to him. but not doing it and bending over backwards already. he NEVER misses the grape thing during the countdown no matter how “bad” a year may be. it’s like him having to watch it’s a wonderful life before xmas every year. it’s a thing he does NOT miss.
maybe it’s a mid-life crisis thing, like buying the car and then sort of regretting it bc it’s another thing to pay for so therefore has to stay at his job longer. btw, there were weird crumbs in the crevices of the front passenger seat the day after my birthday (when he picked me up), and then the whole actually voluntarily hanging out with ppl for a change. he absolutely hates being around ppl, yet he’ll do it for her. i’m sensing a pattern here for how he treats and changes for yt girl vs me and i didn’t even plan that many outings with my own friends for him to go to, max once every half year for a triple date.
but again, it’s like when we broke up, he removes things he can control when he’s super stressed. job he cannot control so the next thing to remove was me bc he can control that. now he’s finally thinking of leaving current job bc he has a sufficient amount saved. guess who helped him itemize and estimate his sinking and emergency funds? such a clown.
i’m done. i can’t do this anymore. it’s taking a toll on my mental health. all this walking on egg shells all the time when we speak on the phone/FT on every single workday/weekday. what C said about the situation rings true. i hope it happens. <^>
this brings me back to something i posted on my finsta:
“if you have to choose between me and her, choose her. because if you really loved me, there wouldn’t be any other choice.”

Hi! I’m so glad to see you back, I’m dying with college too so good luck! So my request would be Bakugo forgetting his girlfriend bday and things get angsty and ugly and the Bakugo trying to make it up? You decide wether they make up or not muahahahha, thanks a lot and have a lovely day!
oof, me. My birthday last year was not so hot. Thankfully this year it went by pretty okay!
Bakugou is a Pro Hero in this fic! I thought it would fit the story a little better, hope you enjoy!
Today was your big day; your birthday had finally rolled around! The past few months had taken all of your power to not burst out of excitement and tell Bakugou how close your birthday was getting. You wanted to see if he would remember his own girlfriend’s birthday, it shouldn’t be too hard, right?
“Good morning Katsuki!” You chirped as you rolled around to lift yourself off the male, hovering over him with your arms on each side of his head. Bakugou squinted at you before turning away and tucking himself into his pillow, “Why are you so excited, go back to sleep,” he groans, pulling the blankets with him. “Katsuki, come on, lets go do something fun today!” You whine as you lay on his side dramatically.
“I can’t, I have work today,” he mumbled from underneath the blankets and you frown, getting off him and sitting beside him on the bed. “You work today?” you ask as he finally sits up, blankets falling off his bare chest. “You didn’t take work off or anything?”
“No, why would I?” he asks puzzled but shrugs it off with a hard stretch. You furrow your brows slightly upset with how things are looking but you still had hope for today. “What time will you be done?” you ask as Bakugou stands from the bed and makes his way towards his dresser.
“Sometime around five, maybe?” he states, “Were you trying to do something today?” Bakugou asks and you laugh lightly at his question. “Well, not really. I have no plans today, I’m free all day!” you hint but Bakugou didn’t react at all.
Bakugou didn’t mention anything about your birthday the entire morning before he left for to work for the day, but you still had hope. Bakugou was loving and he cared for you! There was no chance he could forget your birthday, you two had been together for all these years!
At least, that’s how you tried convincing yourself.
“Thanks again, Mina! It means a lot to me!” You exclaim as you held the girl’s hands happily. As you were out buying a cake for you and Bakugou to share for the evening, you ran into Mina, who had wished you a happy birthday.
“It’s nothing! I’m sorry I couldn’t give you a present today, I wasn’t expecting to run into you like this!” she cried and you shook your head, “The fact that you remember is more than enough!”
She gave you a warm smile before perking up, “Oh! What did Bakugou do for you today? I bet he got you some red roses or an elegant ring!” She exclaimed excitedly but you could only smile back in response. “Um, he hasn’t done anything yet, but maybe he’s just trying to surprise me?” You state hesitantly and Mina steps back in shock. “You’re kidding! Has he at least wished you a happy birthday?!”
“Well...no..” You sigh dejectedly before she reaches over to grab your hands once more. “Do you need me to yell at him? I can go to his hero agency right now!”
“Thanks, but it’s okay. I want to see if Katsuki will remember,” you sigh once more as you step away. “Thanks again for today, see you soon,” you say with a small wave as you make your way towards the bakery.
By the time you got home with the cake, four in the evening was approaching quick. You had spent your morning replying to birthday wishes from old classmates and spent the afternoon running errands. Bakugou would be coming home in an hour so you decided to give him a quick call just to check on him.
“Hello?”
“Hi Katsuki, how’s work going?” You ask with a smile as you decorate your cake with many candles around the neat piping. “Coming home soon?”
“Same as usual, just finishing up these dumbass papers. Why do we even need to fill out paperwork?” Bakugou complains over the phone causing you to giggle. “But turns out im going to be at the agency a little longer today, later in the evening.”
Your hand finishes placing the candles on the birthday cake as you look at it with sad eyes, “You can’t come home early?” You say in a voice so soft it almost comes out as a whisper. Bakugou sighs into the phone, “I’m trying to get this all done so it’ll be easier on us in the future.”
“Okay,” you sigh, “see you later then.” and with that, the phone call ended.“The day’s still young...” you whisper as you placed the cover back over the cake with a heavy heart.
It was long past ten at night and Bakugou was still at the agency finishing his hero work. It had taken him much longer to complete his paperwork and other hero assignments in the office than he had anticipated.
“Woah dude, you’re still here?” Kirishima exclaims, jerking to a stop when he sees his friend still in the office. “Unless you finish these papers for me, these papers don’t finish themselves,” Bakugou mumbles as he scribbles away.
“Shouldn’t you be home with (Name) right now?” Kirishima inquires and Bakugou turns around from his chair, “Did you even do anything with her today?”
“What are you getting at?”
“Well, it’s (Name)’s birthday today.”
“No it’s not, (Name) didn’t tell me it was her birthday this morning,” Bakugou scoffs and Kirishima sighs disappointedly, “Of course she didn’t. Girls do that to test if their boyfriends remember their birthdays. You’re kinda hopeless in a relationship Bakugou..”
Turning around to grab his phone from his desk, Bakugou checked on the time only to find a little less than two hours until midnight. “Fuck!” Bakugou cursed as he grabbed his items and dashed past the red haired male. “Good luck!” Kirishima yelled out as he watched Bakugou running home.
When Bakugou reached the door to your shared space, he was nervous and incredibly guilty, to say the least. Opening the front door, he noticed all the lights off and all that surrounded him was the silent of the night.
“(Name)?” Bakugou called out as he made his way towards the kitchen table. A cake was all that sat upon the table with a single sliced removed, the peice you ate by yourself alone on your birthday.
Slowly, Bakugou made his way towards the bedroom where he found the door shut. Hesitantly he opened the door and found you on the bed covered in blankets, asleep probably.
Stepping closer, his heart shattered in his body when he saw the light tear streaks illuminated by the moonlight streaming down your cheeks. You turned away from him and towards the wall as you covered your face with the blankets.
“(Name), I-” Bakugou started, unsure of what to say to make you feel better. “Happy Birthday,” he said softly but you didn’t react. The room was silent for what felt like an eternity before you spoke up in a whisper.
“It doesn’t matter anymore; it’s already night time,” you said heartbroken. “Babe,” Bakugou whispered as he walked over towards the bed and turned you over, your face filled with sadness. “I’m- fuck- I know I'm an idiot for forgetting.”
“I waited for you to say something all day, Katsuki,” your replied as more tears filled your eyes, “All I waited for was a simple ‘happy birthday’ from you.” you brought the blanket to your eyes as you let out a sob.
“Birthdays aren’t all that special but I thought that you could be there to make it special for me and make me feel special on this day, but in the end, I was left feeling like I didn’t matter instead.”
All Bakugou could do was sit there and listen to your sobs. He really messed this up big time. The only day in the year dedicated to you and he forgot it.
What a mess.
“I can take work off tomorrow for you and we can celebrate together, that sounds like a solid plan,” Bakugou tries but you just shrug, “It’s not the same though cause it’s not on my birthday anymore.” You sure were a tough bug when it came to your birthday and though it was quite frustrating to Bakugou, he still couldn’t blame anyone but himself.
Checking the digital clock on the nightstand, it read an hour until midnight. That’s an hour left of your birthday. An hour left to make things right for you. Bakugou sighed to himself, what was he going to do?
As a thought emerged into his mind, Bakugou got up and left the bedroom. You didn’t move from your spot until you had heard him slowly come back towards the bedroom, setting a few things down on the nightstand, it sounded like he was carrying things?
Finally sitting up, your eyes widened in surprise as you found Bakugou holding the cake with all it’s candles lit up in front of you. Looking up at him, he quietly, yet embarrassed, sang you a happy birthday with that low yet charming voice you loved.
“Happy birthday to you,” he finished as he glanced at your illuminated cheeks from the flames. A small smile made its way onto your lips as you blew out the candles. Bakugou held back his smile for you after seeing you lighten up a bit. He hurried and placed the cake back on the kitchen table before joining you in bed with the soft moonlight in the room.
“It wasn’t much, but I hope it was enough,” Bakugou whispered against your cheek as you turned to face him, your eyes staring into his. “Can I ask for something Katsuki?” You whispered back, he was silent, an answer for you to continue. “Could you hold me tonight?”
The sudden request caused Bakugou’s cheeks to flush before letting out a sputter of nonsense. “W-what the fuck kinda request is that?” He blushed as you stared at him with that sweet look of yours, causing him to be unable to look at you. “Katsuki-”
Before you could say anything, Bakugou pulled you into his arms and securely wrapped his arms around you. “It doesn’t have to be your birthday to ask for such a lame request like this,” he states roughly. “It doesn’t matter what day it is, as long as it’s what you want.”
You smile gently into his chest before you close your eyes, “Thank you Katsuki. This birthday isn’t so bad after all,.”

Happy Late Birthday ♥
Hanzo x Reader Oneshot  ♥
Short summary: Hanzo is a busy man and misses readers birthday. To make up for it, he plans out something special for her.  WARNING! EXTREME CHEESE AND FLUFF!!!  This fic is dedicated for mah lovely friend Viri <3 (who’s bday was last month lol)
________________________________________
“Mrs (Y/L/N)!”
“Yes Sophia?”
“Did I write this right?”
The little girl handed you her exercise booklet.
Your eyes glided from the top to the bottom of the paper curiously, scanning it for spelling and grammar errors.
“You did a good job for your first essay, I found something though. You got the tenses mixed up here “ you pointed towards a word, “ and here.
Go back to the pages we read together last lesson and correct it before class ends. “
Sophia took her booklet back and nodded, before she turned around and walked back to her seat.
With a sigh you checked your watch and quickly after, you peeked at your phone.
No messages.
Nothing.
The view upset you, but it was no surprise. People wouldn't want to bother you at work and the majority of your friends were at work themselves. Especially the person, whose message you were awaiting the most, would be the last in terms of capability to answer.
He was most likely busy snapping someone's neck or piercing their skull with an arrow.
The thought of that sent a shiver through your spine.
Your best friend was an undercover agent for the government, basically the one, who does the dirtiest work. Everybody thinks, that those who work such jobs are cold hearted monsters, far from human and reckless in any way possible and to someone who'd only get to know him briefly, the description would be spot on, but as someone, who actually means something to him, you have more than enough reasons to negate those accusations.
There aren't enough synonyms for lovely and caring, to gather a description of this man you called your best friend.
Your thoughts were interrupted by a group of girls' loud chats and laughter in the corner of the class room, which quickly found an end once you met their gigglish looks with a raised brow and the obnoxiously loud clearing of your throat.
It was one in the afternoon and you just finished writing the homework onto the blackboard for the students to copy, when you realized, that something was off. Usually one or two students were already eager to leave minutes before the end and had their stuff packed to run off, once the bell rang. For some reason, all of them were strangely calm and their items were still spread all over the tables, as if they were still up to something. You washed your hands to get rid of the chalk dust on your fingers and returned back to your table, when suddenly all the children got up and formed a semicircle around you and began singing.
“Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday Mrs. (Y/L/N),
Happy Birthday to you!”
The children began to cheer and the two class representatives handed you a bouquet of flowers and a small packed gift, you were asked to open right away. You ripped open the paper and your pupils widened instantly. You were holding a set of extremely expensive paint brushes.
“This is so lovely! Thank you all so much! I can't believe you planned this all alone!”
The children looked at each other in joy and with proud expressions due to your praise.
Even though you were a language teacher, your love for art and painting was known amongst both your colleagues and your students.
Thanking your class a few more times, you hugged each student, before they eagerly packed their belongings and made their way out of the class room.
By the time the last student left you were done packing as well. You locked the classroom and walked to your car. With a thud, you closed the door and breathed out, enjoying the sudden silence as the voices of playing children were no longer in your ears.
The brushes were something you always hesitated to buy, since they were really, really pricey but now, they were yours and your mind was already flooded with ideas of what to paint first. It's been a while that you discovered them and toyed around with the thought of a purchase, literally telling everyone about how good they are, hoping to receive them as a present. As always, your genius plan worked as intended.
You couldn't wait to show them to your best friend of to surprise him with a really good painting.
Unfortunately the joy of thinking about said action vanished as fast as it appeared. He wasn't in town. Probably not even in the same country or continent. His work was top secret and he said you would be better off knowing less. You were absolutely clueless, about where he was at the moment or when he would come back, it was common for some of his duties to take longer than expected. You had just wished, that maybe this time he would be back in time. You decided not to linger on sad thoughts and drove to your parents place, who were awaiting you impatiently.
One week later.
Hanzo's POV
It's morning.
“Excellent work like always Mr.Shimada. Just like I expected it from a man like you.”
You got up from your bowing position and looked into the eyes of your boss.
“You honor me!”
“We sent that naïve simpleton our regards, they won't get in our way any time soon.”
You nodded in agreement, not knowing what else to add.
“Well well.... you look tired. The mission is over, you may go home unless you still have anything to say.”
You shook your head. “No, I am finished.”
“There is a limousine waiting to escort you home.”
You bowed down again. “Thank you.”
“You're always so formal. I guess that's a sign that you're parents raised you well.”
Your boss groaned. “Speaking of parents... I totally forgot that I have to call my wife's mother today. I guess it has to be another golden Rolex this year unless I want to hear complaints for months … Every birthday my wife wants something even more extra ordinary for her mother. I just wish she would leave me out of her plans each time.”
Birthday..... Oh god …. Oh no … OH NO!
“Sir , would you please tell me what today's date is?”
Your boss looked at you in confusion.
“It's the xx.xx, why?”
Your pupils tightened. God damn it. How could you forget.
“Sir is it possible, for the driver to bring me to another place?”
“Of course Mr.Shimada, would you first explain to me why though?”
You began explaining.
(Y/N) POV
“Ah dang it, thirteen percent.”
You had forgotten to plug your phone into the charger over night as you had fallen asleep on the couch.
Annoyed, that you couldn't scroll through the latest news as the first thing of the day, you got up and rubbed your eye. Making your way to the charger, you stepped on a piece of paper on the floor.
“Huh?” You picked it up and recognized the flyer of the city's art gallery. You placed it on the kitchen table and turned on the coffee machine while wondering where you left your charger. Ever since your birthday you were very busy with work, so you had barely any time left to look after yourself or your apartment. You decided to take a day off all tasks and catch up with what you had neglected lately.
At the breakfast table you decided to take a look into the flyer before you would drop it into the trash can. There were three exhibitions this month. Two rather boring ones and one that caught your eye, the one about ancient east-asian art. You remembered bringing the flyer home so you wouldn't forget to book the tickets for you and your best friend but the both of you forgot about it in the end and now it was too late, since it was not only the last day but most likely already booked out.
Sighing you dropped the paper into the trash can and took a sip of your coffee.
You missed him and It was becoming annoying. You knew he was good at his job and not all of it was cruel so he enjoyed it aswell. It paid well so he had a life free of worries, you couldn't complain either, as his best friend you out of everyone enjoyed that fact the most. Unfortunately all the gifts and pleasures coming along with his job were no substitute for his constant absence. Missions could take up to two months sometimes. The worst thing was when he suddenly disappeared for three and  a half months, without being able to notify you. It was an emergency and he was called in during another mission. Lucky for the both of you, that never occurred again.
It was true, you despised his job. It consumed so much of his time one couldn't call it a life. You saw him so little amounts of time, it was ridiculous. You knew him since high school, yet nothing had developed further than a good friendship. Sometimes you would point the finger towards yourself, after all you encouraged him into taking the job offer he received after winning an award for his combat skills. You didn't know it would end up this way. If only you had known.
Unlike your best friend, who had nothing else in mind but studying, to ensure a bright future for himself, you sensed your feelings for him pretty early on but decided to keep them to yourself.
Multiple girls had confessed to him and he turned all of them down, saying he had no time for a relationship because of his studies. You knew better than doing the same mistake, you didn't want to risk losing the friendship you had built up during those three years. You eventually became the person he shared everything with but that was about it. He was very reserved and you were afraid to lose him. Your jobs didn't leave much time for the two of you to spend together. There was no solid ground for a relationship and you started to doubt that there would ever be, no matter how many times your hugs would last for minutes, no matter how often his face would be mere centimetres away from yours while watching movies or going to amusement parks together. No matter how often the two of you would look at each other blushing when you were asked how long you were dating already.
Louder than necessary, you placed the mug onto the table and closed your eyes. Oh when would he finally come back and be in your arms again, so you could tell him how much you missed him.
Opening your eyes, you remembered your plans for today. You got up from your chair and brought your dishes into the kitchen.
Later that evening.
“Yeah, yeah dad I will call you back later, I need to bring the groceries home and I need both hands for that, love you, byee!”
Sighing you hung up the call and got out of your car. You took your goodies out of the trunk and closed the door.
Your neighbour greeted you at the door and held it open for you, since you had both hands full of bags. You thanked the woman and waited for the elevator to arrive. Inside it you eyed yourself in the mirror. You had lost some weight lately, partly because you planned to in first place and partly because eating alone was just not the same. You looked into your own eyes. It really was overdue for you to take care of yourself again, you hadn't seen yourself this pretty in a while now, just keeping your appearance up as much as necessary.
Bing!
You walked out of the elevator and placed the groceries in front of your door to find your keys, which had fallen to the bottom of your purse. You opened the door and closed it with your leg, quickly took off your shoes and walked into the kitchen to unpack the bags. You were done and decided to take a seat on the sofa and relax in front of the TV for a moment. As you walked into the living room, you immediately realized, that something was off. The chair you had breakfast on today, was missing. Confused you walked around the room, back into the kitchen and suddenly towards your bedroom.
Were you going crazy? You opened the door of your bedroom and your jaw dropped. The chair was there, on it, an enormous plush of your favourite animal. Around it, the words “Happy Birthday”
had been arranged with light strings. Three huge boxes were placed on your bed, wrapped in shiny paper with bows all over. You walked over to your pile of surprises and a card caught your eye.
“Happy Birthday (Y/N)!
I'm sorry for being late, I hope you forgive me.
I'll be picking you up at three, thirty .
Be ready!
Hanzo”
You smiled and shook your head. That's all he had to say after three weeks? This man ….
You wanted to open one of the boxes but then your watch caught your eye. It was already two fifty!
And you still had to shower and dress up! This was going to be a special day after all!
You dropped the present onto your bed and quickly ran towards the bathroom.
Twenty five minutes later you were checking your phone nervously. A last glance into your pocket mirror reassured you, that you were in fact, looking gorgeous. Not knowing what surprise he had in store, you dressed elegant enough to fit a fancy dinner but casual enough, not to stand out if he'd just take you to the cinema.  The doorbell rang and you shot up from your seat, rehearsing your greeting. Something about this was special. It didn't feel like the last times he came back. It was completely different. You opened the door and your heart began beating like crazy. Your eyes locked for a few seconds, the two of you eyeing each other after this long time, before indulging in a very long, tight hug.
“Happy belated birthday.”
“You were gone for way too long.”
“I know.”
“Do you have any idea how much I missed you?”
“I'm sorry.”
“You better are!”
You ended the hug giving him the most ridiculous angry expression, causing the both of you to laugh about it.
“Are you ready?”
“Yes, mind telling me where we are going?”
“Hmmm no, you'll have to be patient, birthday girl!”
He took your hand and the both of you walked outside.
In front of your apartment, something had caught a few passengers eye, and yours as well the moment you walked out of the door.
A really beautiful Mercedes was parked in front of the door, shining in the midsts of the regular sized cars.
“You didn't have to ….”
He grinned widely. “But I wanted to.”
The passengers stepped aside as he held the door open for you to step in. You shook your head and took a seat. Hanzo closed the door and walked over to the drivers seat.
“I really don't want to know the price of this car, do I?”
“No, and it's nothing you need to worried about anyway.”
The low buzz of the car began and he started driving.
“How did you like your presents?” He looked over to you and smiled slightly.
“I don't know.” You shrugged,  “I haven't opened them yet.”
Hanzo raised a brow.
“Why not ?”
“I barely had time left when I came home. Besides, I wanted to open them with you there.”
You looked over to him, the corners of his lips slightly rose.
“Alright, we'll open them later then.”
Minutes later, the two of you arrived at a lively part of the city and parked the car.
He opened the door for you and he took your hand to guide you to your destination.
You stopped in front of the art gallery and he looked at you, curiously.
“Why did we stop? What are we gonna do here?”
“What do you think?” He grinned.
“I don't know? All I wanted to see was the east asian art but it's sold o-”
Hanzo waving with two tickets, cut you off mid sentence.
“We should go in, it's the last day and we still have much to see.”
This man....He was full of surprises and mysteries. You had no idea how he managed to get the tickets but you couldn't care less. You were too busy being exited about the exhibition.
Time flew by as you looked at what felt like a never ending collection of ancient art. You were amazed and mesmerized by each one of them, wishing you were allowed to take pictures of all the details and individual paintings.
As you had reached the end of the exhibition you walked into a small room, arranged to be a store.
The post card section magically attracted you like a spell. Scanning the cards for some of the beautiful pieces you saw in the exhibition, a blue card caught your attention.
The blue print was met by a golden dragon, treated with a dark golden fish pattern. It looked extremely pretty and royal and reminded you of your best friends family emblem and the tattoo on his arm. You picked it up and turned around to show it to him, he would love it ! But he was nowhere to be seen. You scanned the entire room, just to be told by the saleswoman, that he got a phone call and walked out already. Sighing you looked at the post card again. Maybe it was too much to be expected but you wished to have him just for yourself, an entire day. It would've been too perfect if that day could be the day, you celebrated your birthday.
Your decision to not let that thought drag you down and just enjoy what you have, guided you to the register. You bought the post card together with a notebook and a few other cards. As you were paying the items the woman asked if you also wanted to take a look at the tie pins, since one of them would match your boyfriend so well. You didn't know what you were supposed to ask the lady first, why she thought you two were dating or why the hell the souvenir store would sell tie pins.
“The gold in the tie pin would suit the golden shine in his eyes.” She smiled.
“You are right, the shade also matches his suit perfectly, I'll take it. But …. he's not my boyfriend, what made you think that?”
The woman covered her mouth and then giggled.
“The way he looked at you, it just …. reminded me of the way my father used to look at my mother.  I don't think I've seen more love in somebody's eyes before.” She laughed nervously at your surprised expression before handing you the little paper bag with your newly purchased goods.
“Have a nice day” she said , “and oh, … I don't think my eyes were lying to me when I saw him.“ She winked at you and you smiled brightly as you stepped through the door.
Hanzo dropped his phone in his pocket and rushed towards you, as you walked out of the entrance.
“I'm sorry (Y/N)! It was an urgent call from my boss but everything is alright now.” He smiled.
“So show me what you got!” He tried lurking into the small bag but you quickly hid it behind your back. “Hmm you'll have to wait until later.”
Your playful grin made him raise a brow.
“Anyway, walking for 3 hours straight made me sooo hungry,
can we stop somewhere nearby and grab something to eat?” you asked him, resting a hand on your stomach.
“I know a good place.” He said smiling. “But it's not nearby.”
You huffed in dismay and followed him to the car.
He didn't lie, it really wasn't close by. While you were admiring the view on the highway , his phone started buzzing very loudly next to you. Your body's reaction to the surprising sound and your nosiness were quicker than your will to respect his privacy so you took a glance on the screen of his phone. Your heart twitched slightly as you saw an unknown name of another woman light up on the display. You didn't remember him having any female colleagues or any girl named Rosie in his family. Who was she? Wasn't he always telling you everything? How come you never heard of this new friend of him? The car ride went awkwardly silent from then on. Luckily, you quickly met your destination soon after.
Hanzo stepped out of the car and walked towards your door to open it for you, you decided to use the time to quickly drop the little package with the pin into your purse. The door opened.
“I don't think I've ever been in this part of the town before, where are we?” You asked, as you stepped outside the car, hoping he'd take your hand again.
“I have only been here before once, they just finished building new houses and stores around in this area so it's not quite known yet. That should change soon thought, you'll find out why, once we're inside.”
He gave you a promising look before offering you his hand. You were glad but also surprised, he rarely held your hand , usually he'd only go that far some times when he walked you home at night and creepy people would  pass by you.
Hanzo guided you towards the entrance of what looked like the most fancy restaurant you had seen from up close. The two of you went eating out quiet often but nothing could reach up to this. It was cute of him to go out of his way for you but it was very unusual of him to make things this extravagant.
You entered the restaurant and your jaw dropped. It looked similar to a ball room but with beautifully shaped chairs and tables. The lights at the hight ceiling were surrounded by shiny chandeliers.
After naming himself to the receptionist, Hanzo was greeted with a bow and the two of you were lead to a small stairway at the side of the desk. Your friend asked you to go first and you walked up the stairs quickly, curious of what was awaiting you upstairs.
About halfway there, you realised the slight wind meeting your face and you suspected to be led to the rooftop of the building. Your suspicions were true and you couldn't believe your eyes. It was beautiful. The rooftop was rather small and looked like a very lovely balcony. There was only one table and two chairs were placed around it, facing each other.
The fence was surrounded by garlands of roses and the most powerful source of light, next to the two lanterns at the staircase, was the dark red candle in the middle of the table.
A waiter placed two menus on either side of the table and went downstairs quickly afterwards, leaving an electronic bell behind. Still admiring your surroundings and the marvellous view at the city's shining buildings, the night lights and their reflections in the sea, you took your seat and decided to read the menu as your hunger was at its peak.
“I really can't decide, if I want to settle for a pizza, or if I'd like to try something new. The baked chicken sounds soo tasty.”
“I am really tempted by the chicken aswell” Hanzo sighed. “But the grilled salmon sounds just as good.”
“How about....”
Hanzo's eyes slided from the menu to meet yours. “I choose the chicken and you take the salmon? And we try from each other?”
Hanzo nodded and smiled. “Sounds like a good idea to me.” His sudden smile made you blush and you tried to hide it quickly, by ringing the bell for the waiter and deciding on a beverage.
After giving your orders by the polite man in the suit, the two of you picked up on any news regarding your families and quickly after, you excused yourself, to go to the bathroom.
Leaving your stall, a woman passed by you to the sink next to yours to wash her hands. A moment later you recognized her. She was the wife of some TV celebrity . So this place was more than simply fancy looking? It must be serving very nice food as well, you thought to yourself.
The receptionist guided you to the stairway again and you began walking but stopped right before your head, peeked out of the entrance. Hanzo was speaking to somebody. Probably on the phone. You didn't want to spy on him but your curiosity was taking over you, as you wondered who would be calling him this time of the day.
“Yes , everything went as planned, thank you for everything again, Agasa san!”
Agasa san? That was his boss' name, so it was a work related call? But it sounded less formal...
“I can't thank you enough for your help sir and don't forget to deliver my thanks to Rosie aswell, you were right, your wife really is talented at planning surprises. I don't think I would've managed to gather all the right things in time without her help.”
You smiled brightly.
“Yes, yes, and no that was nothing. It's my job after all. Have a great evening sir.”
“Excuse me m'am, your dinner.”
You turned around in confusion just to meet the slightly uncomfortable waiter standing at the entrance, waiting for you to leave the staircase so he can deliver the dishes.
Embarrassed, you hurried to your seat, pretending not to know anything and enjoying your delicious dinner.
The fifth sip of champagne later, your plates were empty and your bellies filled.
The place was quiet and peaceful and the two of you were simply enjoying the moment of silence before Hanzo's phone gave off a silent buzz, making his eyes expand.
“It is time...” He whispered and turned off his phone.
“Time for what?” You asked , as he got up from his seat and asked you to follow him to the fence.
“There is a festival today, at the beach over there. “
Exited you waited for him to end his sentence. “And if I'm not wrong, there should be a fi-”
Hanzo was cut off by the loud chanting of people counting down from three in unison, before ten rockets shot up in the air, on the other side of the sea, dissolving in bright lights and sparkles in the sky.
You were mesmerized by the beauty of the colours and the lights, you didn't notice Hanzo looking at you the entire time instead, watching the fireworks out of the reflection in your eyes.
The rhythm of the fireworks lost it's steadiness and you looked over to Hanzo, causing him to quickly look away after you caught him staring. This made you remember the words of the woman in the store and the Pin.
“Ah, I've got something to give you.”
You quickly walked to the table and took the pin out of your purse, hiding the package behind your back as you turned around, to watch him take a sip of his champagne nervously.
“Close your eyes!” you requested as you slowly walked towards him.
“Why?” He asked.
Gosh, such a stupid question. He was really nervous all of the sudden, but why?
“Just do it, It's a surprise.”
Hanzo breathed in sharply and closed his eyes.
“Do I need to hold out my hands or anything? “
You were now standing right In front of him, unpacking the pin.
“No, just stand still.”
He swallowed hard as your voice determined, how close you were standing in front of him.
Taking his tie into your hand, you slided the fabric between the two parts of the pin and softened the fabric of his shirt causing his hands to shiver slightly.
“You may open your eyes.”
He opened his eyes and looked down. A smile marked his lips.
“The color of the pin is so beautiful. The gold really shines even thought its a bit dark. I love it! And the pattern ...”
He looked at you. “Where did you get it? I don't think I've ever seen a pin this beautiful anywhere before.”
You grinned. “The store section of the exhibition.”
“Uhm.... you're joking right?”
“No”
“Why would they sell tie pins?”
“I don't know” You laughed. “But hey, I guess that's were you'd find such beautiful tie pins.”
The both of you laughed slightly before you became so silent you heard each other breathe.
“Oh you moved and now it's uneven.”
You rearranged the tie pin and he looked down to watch you do so. Again you flat out the fabric of his shirt but your hands remained on his chest. You didn't want to take your hands off him, ever.
You wished this moment could last forever. Just you and Hanzo. No phones buzzing, bosses calling, other voices interrupting. You didn't notice you were staring at his chest, caught in your thoughts, until you heard Hanzo, call out your name.
His hands slid on top of yours, his thumb brushing over your remarkably smaller hands, his eyes locked onto yours.
“Happy Birthday.”
He smiled at you, hoping he had made up for the time, the two of you lost during his time working.
“Thank you for everything Hanzo, the presents, ... the exhibition, the dinner , …the time with you.”
You smiled and were surprised, that he wasn't anymore.
“I wish I could spend all of my time with you.”
Before you could think of an answer to that, he continued.
“I love you.”
your lips parted as the heavy blush on your cheeks gave off the answer to his proposal.
There were so many emotions going through you at this moment. Your thoughts travelled back to the moment you met him, the first time you spend your afternoon together. Every single time your heart beat fast because of him rushed by your mind, filling your stomach with a million butterflies and your heart with a strong rush of joy and an even bigger rush of relief.
“I want to be with you, (Y/N).”
Softly, you freed your hands from his, travelling up to rest your fingers on his cheeks, closing the gap between your lips, as they met each other , unwilling to ever part. His arms pulled you closer to his, making you able to feel his chest on yours.
Your lips finally distanced for a longer period, allowing you to breathe and look up at him and reply.
“I love you too Hanzo. I want to be with you for ever.”
His eyes closed for a second and a relieved huff left him, causing you to giggle. So that was, what he was nervous about?
Your finger brushed his cheek and his beard, curving his sharp jaw before he came closer to you, to place a kiss on your forehead.
He held onto you very strongly.
“I'm so happy and so ….” He looked away for a moment.
“Relieved?”
“Yes.” He replied, looking back into your eyes.
Your soft lips marked his right cheek with a kiss.
“How could I possibly say no to you, you are all I wanted and more.”
“You're exaggerating.”
“I'm not. You're the loveliest man I know and have ever known. On top of that, you're the best friend one could have and absolute husband material.”
He was startled.
“Hus-”
You cut him off with another kiss, slightly biting his lower lip.
This wasn't the last kiss of it's kind that night. The day began with Hanzo in your mind and ended with him by your side.
Extra :
Hanzo looked at his laptop screen in anger of not finding what he was looking for , before taking a look at the time and hurriedly putting on his clothes. His phone rang and he cursed whoever was calling in that moment of a rush.
“Hey Genji I'm busy , can I call you back later?”
“It's only a small question Hanzo.”
SIGH
“Yes?”
“You're planning to move out of your current apartment? Why? And why into a place so big? Is there anything I need to know?”
“How ...”
“You were still logged in on my PC so your browser history showed up while I was trying to find a website. I can't because the list is full of houses....Now tell me why you want to move into a house so big on your own?”
“Genji I ….
Me and (Y/N) are dating now.”
there was a small moment of silence before his brother bursted out loud cheers.
“FINALLY! Me and mum and everyone else have been waiting forever! Took you long enough to confess. Or her, I doubt it was you.”
Genji laughed and Hanzo snarled annoyed.
“What do you mean mom and the others? And what do you mean forever? Also I should let you know I asked her out after spending a really nice date with her, don't you dare ridicule me like that.”
“You took her out on a fancy date? Are you really my nerdy brother who only knows work and studies?”
“Yes and I am gonna be late to my next fancy date with her if you don't answer my questions and make it quick!”
“I can't believe you didn't know, that we were all waiting for the two of you to finally find each other. I always wanted to drop hints and lecture you about how to finally approach her, back in high school but mother told me to let it happen naturally. She probably cursed herself secretly when she saw, how nothing happened over the many years.” Genji laughed again.
“Well congratulations, you two wanted me to engage romantically with my best friend, now what is it about the others?”
“Oh not just us two, the entire class felt like you guys would marry one day. Or do you think it was a coincidence, that you were supposed to play the main roles in the play in eleventh grade?! You didn't get the role for your honourable acting skills brother.“
Embarrassed, Hanzo walked past his wardrobe as he forgot his watch on his desk, stopping at your high school graduation picture.
“Hanzo ? H e l l o ?”
“Yes, yes sorry, I  got to go now, I'll call you tomorrow alright?”
“Yes, I'll be waiting, ….gosh I can't wait to tell mum, she will probably cry. Bye Brother!”
“Bye.”

The Crossing (Disuphere series #3) Chapter 30
Scene IV: They Live In You
Dominique can’t help it.  The question’s out of her mouth before she can stop it.  Irreverent.  Sarcastic.  “Your invisible friend?  It wasn’t me, was it?”
“No,” Jesus answers, not sarcastic at all.  He’s sad, almost grieving when he says:  “Like you, with me, he was real.”
“You really don’t think it’s weird?” Dominique checks.
“No.  I mean, we all have to cope,” Jesus maintains.
“I used to think...what was happening to me was happening to you, too…” Dominique admits.
“Was it?” Jesus checks.  “I mean, did I like, tell you it was?”
“No.  You never answered.  I just figured you weren’t answering because you didn’t wanna say it out loud.”
“Maybe you didn’t want to say it out loud,” Jesus ventures softly, no judgment.
Dominique exhales, impressed.  “That is….  That is very true…”  Silence again.  She should really go back across the hall but there’s something almost sacred about being awake when no one else is, and just talking.  Just being.  “My um...he used to make me call him my boyfriend...he used to always say everybody was looking for you, but nobody was for me.”
“He used to go search for me.  Talk to my mom.  While he had me locked in his basement…” Jesus shudders.  “He came back and told me about it once.  Brought me a pin with my face on it.”
Dominique shivers, too.
“Only my parents were ever looking for me.  Cops decided I ran away.  Just turned eleven.  Straight-A student.  Happy at home.”
“That sucks,” Jesus says.  “And they looked for me…but they didn’t find me.”
“Nobody found me, either,” Dominique agrees.
For a while, they just sit.  Jesus seems tired, and so is Dominique but neither one of them is willing to surrender to sleep.  Dominique’s sure it’ll bring nightmares after what went down tonight.
“Can I ask a question….I already asked?” Jesus asks, tentative.
“Are you asking me?” Dominique wonders, surprised.  “You don’t need my permission, Jesus.  Ask whatever you want…”
“I know it’s just...trauma…  I could never ask anything.  And definitely could never repeat a question.”
“Well, it was damn scary earlier tonight.  But I don’t think you’re stupid.  And you’re not back there now ‘cause you didn’t have your awesome across-the-hall triplet then.  To be clear, you can absolutely ask a question.  Even if it’s a repeat.  Repeating can help the truth settle...at least I’ve found…”
“Yeah?” Jesus asks.
“Yeah.”
“Are we still friends?”  He looks terrified.  Like she’s definitely gonna say no.
“We are.  We’re friends.  According to you and Mariana, we’re triplets.  And that doesn’t go away when one of you has a tough day does it?  You don’t stop being there for Mariana?”
“No.”
“So, I won’t stop being there for you.  It might be hard sometimes.  I might need space.  I might feel safer with Mariana at times, like you do.  But I always wanna be your friend.  Do you wanna be mine?”
“Real friends.  Not invisible,” Jesus says, certain.
“No, not invisible.  We spent long enough like that,” Dominique yawns.  “I should go back,” she says, regretful.
“Hey...I’m glad I could be there for you.  To help, you know…” Jesus says.
“Yeah, thanks for being cool about it.  And for checking out the tweet.”  She scoops up Roberta, who’s fallen asleep in a corner of Jesus’s kitchen.  She keeps Jesus in sight, backing to the door, not able to break this old habit.
“I’m really sorry for not responding.  It really isn’t ‘cause I didn’t care.  I saw your tweet.  And it meant a lot to me.  I’m not some asshole who’s above all this, and all about his social media presence.”
“That’s not what I thought,” Dominique allows and then corrects herself.  “Okay, that kinda is what I thought...but…”
“You didn’t have the full information, and the pieces you did have left you with a lot of holes,” Jesus says simply.  “It’s okay.  I’m not mad.”
“Okay,” Dominique nods.  “And it’s okay if you need to ask me stuff.  Even repeat questions,” she clarifies.
“You should go, you’re gonna be a zombie tomorrow…” Jesus encourages.
“Yeah, too bad I don’t have a costume for that.”
“Maybe Mom does,” Jesus grins.  “That was a seriously awesome costume she had.”
“I’ll let her know you appreciate it,” Dominique nods.  “‘Night, Jesus.”
“‘Night,” he says.
Back in her own place, Dominique locks the door behind her.  Picks up her phone and texts Mom.
Fire alarm.  No real fire.  But scared me.  Also Jesus likes your Maleficent costume.
Mom:
You okay?
Dominique:
Mom.  I didn’t actually expect you to be up and text me back now.  Did I wake you?
Mom:
Of course I’m gonna text you back now.  Tell Jesus thank you when you see him.  Are you okay?
Dominique:
I gotta be up in an hour.  IDK if it’s even worth it to try and sleep right now or if I should get up for the day and buy a trenta sized iced white mocha to get me through.
Mom:
If you can, try to get some rest.  Even if all you can do is lie down and breathe deep.  Sing something, maybe.
Dominique:
Sing what?
Mom:
What do you feel?
Dominique:
Tired.  Happy.  Relieved.  Adrenaline.
Mom sends a voice note and Dominique plays it.  There’s Mom’s voice singing to her softly: “Here’s a little song I wrote.  You might want to sing it note for note, but don’t worry.  Be happy.”
Dominique records her own voice, singing back: “In every life we have some trouble, but when we worry, we make it double.  Don’t worry.  Be happy.  Thank you, Mom.”
She lays awake for an hour, feeling tense as her thoughts race, but she tries to do what Mom suggested and take deep breaths for a while.  It doesn’t work for her.  She keeps expecting the fire alarm to go off again.  Finally, she gives up and gets out of bed.  Her alarm will go off in ten minutes and Dominique turns it off.
Tries to find clean clothes for work, but her mind is elsewhere.  Talking to Jesus had been good.  Talking to Mariana never stopped being good.  Jesus still wants to be friends.  Mariana never stopped, and Francesca feels like a little sister that Dominique’s never had.
Domminique has a birthday coming up.  Maybe Jesus and Mariana (Francesca, too, if she wants,) can come and hang out at Mom and Dad’s then.
On a whim, she group-texts all three Adams-Fosters and asks what they think.
So, my bday is on Saturday, October 3 and I was wondering if y’all wanted to do dinner at my house that night?  Don’t have to bring presents.  Just yourselves.  RSVP whenever.
On her break at work, Dominique checks her texts:
Francesca:
I want to go.  I want to go to avoydense to.
Jesus:
Wait.  Dom how did you get Fran’s number?
Francesca:
I gave it to her.
Mariana:
I’m in.
Jesus:
Me too, with questions.
Dominique smiles.  Texts the group back:
Questions are welcome.  What do you say we go to Avoidance for a pre bday meeting.  Maybe Fri afternoon?
Francesca:
I am at school 330.
Dominique:
We’ll have it after 3:30, Francesca, so everybody can come.
Francesca texts back a row of smiling emojis, plus hearts and a rainbow.  Then a picture of her Kindle with the first Harry Potter book loaded on the screen.
This is so good did you read it all?
Dominique:
Maybe ;) (Yes.  Several times.)
Francesca:
OK don’t tell me what happens!!!!
Dominique:
Okay I won’t.
Mariana:
What have you done to our sister? ;)
Jesus:
Excited for Avoidance + bday dinner w/ the fam.
Dominique smiles again:
Me, too.

DAYS 8-14
Tumblr media
DAY EIGHT [JAN 8]
9:00 AM - Wake up still feeling full from yesterday’s black bean burgers. Make a chemex and start working. I have a performance evaluation today and as well as an after-work happy hour so I want to try to get everything done before the review and then workout after before HH.
10:30 AM - Eat a banana
12:30 PM - Have a short break before my performance review. Make a Greek-ish salad and drink a Seltzer before my quarterly performance review which I am slightly nervous for since I was very slow in both November & December.
3:00 PM - Performance review went well. No criticism from my boss, though I should’ve known. She is the most direct supervisor I’ve ever had so I always know where I stand. Eat some grapes. I’m not super sore today but there’s something in me that’s saying to take a breather from exercising today (probably my “reward” for a good performance review), so I slowly finish my work for today.
4:00 PM - My best friend (let’s call her T) from high school calls and we catch up for 45 minutes. Pour a mezcal soda while we chat. I let her go attend Happy Hour and realize this after work HH thing isn’t happening. Today is David Bowie’s bday and I get sentimental about the annual David Bowie Nights I would do with H (I never gave him a name in my last diary, but we’ve remained pals over the years and he will probably come up more this time around). I FaceTime H kinda drunkenly and he goes to the corner store and joins me with a bottle of wine. I pour a second mezcal soda. We chat until 7:45 and I lowkey make dinner towards the end.
8:00 PM - K and I eat veggie sandwiches with potatoes for dinner. He slinks off to work more and I facetime another friend, J to chat about H’s latest drama.
10:00 PM - Go out on the couch to find K already falling asleep. I’m kind of drunk anyways and there’s no point staying up so we decide to turn in.
DAY EIGHT TOTAL: $0
DAY NINE
2:00 AM - Wake up sweating. This is my new hangover thing and has been happening throughout quar. Drink some water, turn on the fan, and stay up for an extra 30 minutes until I pass out again.
9:15 AM - Wake up feeling ok! Make a chemex and watch the latest episode of Dessert Person on YouTube.
10:30 AM - Get started on blog stuff for the day. I have a stacked list of stuff I want to shoot this weekend. I’m only one ingredient spread in before I start to feel light-headed from last night’s alcohol, so I break to make breakfast – tofu/egg scramble tacos with soyrizo. I still feel a little weird after so I drink a nuun and things start to improve.
3:30 PM - I shoot thousand island dressing, Russian dressing, cauliflower leek soup, and the first half of seitan corned beef. Tomorrow I’ll finish that, and shoot rubens, italian dressing and a greek salad. I don’t usually shoot 7 recipes in one weekend, but I’m very much out of content.
4:30 PM - Finish shooting for the day and eat a small bowl of cauliflower leek soup.
6:00 PM - Working out on the weekends is always hard because of lack of routine / structure, but I suck it up and do a barre live stream. Shower and watch the last of the Suns game and import photos.
7:45 PM - Make veggie sandwiches with miso butter green beans for dinner. This is the last of our veggie sandwiches which is sad. I love them so much! Spend the rest of the evening with K. We watch part of the 76ers game where they only had 7 players, a few episodes of Letterkenny, and then I read Remain in Love while he played RocketLeague.
DAY NINE TOTAL: $0
DAY TEN
8:45 AM - Doomscroll in bed for a bit and finally make myself a chemex. Put on an old episode of The Challenge. Buy a very belated birthday present for a friend - mamafuku seasoned salts. $34.95
10:30 AM - Pump myself up for shooting for the rest of the day. I have to finish the seitan, then shoot a greek dressing, a greek salad, and reuben sandwiches. None of these things should take too long but I also shot all day yesterday so I’m dragging ass.
3:15 PM - Finially finish! I ended up also taking a decent break to chat with my sister on the phone part way through. I think everything looks alright though.
4:00 PM - Import photos, eat a cup of cauliflower leek soup with a La Croix, watch an episode of The Challenge, try to hype myself up to exercise but by the time I am ready to play DDR, K says we’ll be zooming with his parents in just a short while.
5:30 PM - Drink the last of the wine in the house – a true bummer – on zoom with K’s parents. Cook dinner after – reubens with miso butter broccoli with more La Croix. We watch some Letterkenney and then K plays RocketLeague while I read some Remain in Love / zone out on fone.
9:00 PM - K finishes playing and I assume the DDR position. My tracking has already improved quite a bit since Tuesday. I play most of the tracks on standard and close my Apple Watch rings after 30 minutes. Rinse off, put the Challenge back on and edit photos of Russian Dressing.
DAY TEN TOTAL: $34.95
DAY ELEVEN
8:30 AM - Ugh Monday. I actually have a lot to do already today. Make a chemex and do the dishes leftover from yesterday’s cooking adventures. Pure barre charge comes through. $15
9:45 AM - I have a giant stack of packages and mail in the house from the past few weeks. Open up one of them and it contains a phone case I bought from a “tech company” that is probably just a fancy version of Wish. Slap it on my phone. I honestly can’t believe I went over a month without a case without cracking anything. I’m amazing.
10:00 AM - Missed a call on Friday afternoon from an appraiser scheduler, so I call them back to get something on the calendar for next week after MLK day so I have the 3-day weekend to clean. Eat yogurt for breakfast.
12:00 PM - Make a greek salad for lunch with a La Croix. It’s really good but not very filling. I have a feeling today is going to have a heavy snack vibe.
2:00 PM - Eat a handful of pretzels.
3:00 PM - Eat 2 clementines
4:00 PM - Eat a handful of tortilla chips. Start thinking about dinner. Don’t want to do reubens and burritos sound really nice so I start the process of making chile de arbol salsa and instant pot refried beans.
5:30 PM - Do a Pure Barre livestream. My focus is a little better than Saturday, so I’ll take it!
7:00 PM - Make rice on the stove while I clear some dishes and make burritos for din. Spend the rest of the eve watching random YouTube videos with K. He falls asleep at some point on and I turn on The Challenge.
11:00 PM - Gently wake K up and we head to bed. Put on the Suns game from earlier and cuddle up. By the end of the first quarter, I’m asleep.
DAY ELEVEN TOTAL $15
DAY TWELVE
8:30 AM - Wake up to find a couple of weird charge notifications. One is from Instacart for the exact amount of my last order – a duplicate charge. And the other is an auto-ship from Thrive market but it was supposed to charge my mom. I text her to let her know she owes me $20. I won’t include either of these charges since I’ll get reimbursed / refunded. The autoship also reminds me to look at the account and cancel my next one with Thrive.
9:00 AM - Get the stuff sorted out with Instacart. They’re going to email my sister (we share this account) the deets and she’ll forward to me. Make a chemex and make my way through the stack of paper mail before starting my workday. One of them is a confirmation of my credit score – 749. Sign a bunch of papers and put them in a giant envelope to send back to the loan company.
10:00 AM - Eat plant yogurt for breakfast and try to focus on the outstanding tasks I have this AM which is surprisingly kind of a lot.
11:45 AM - H texts me saying he forgot his wallet to buy lunch and asks me to place an order at Chipotle that he can pick up. Always happy to help! Place the order online and it’s $10.43. He PayPals me $10 for the damage. $0.43
12:45 PM - Make a greek salad for lunch with a La Croix. This salad has like 5 calories since the dressing is oil-free and leaves me wanting more.
1:00 PM - Eat a handful of mini pretzels.
3:00 PM - Heat up a small bowl of cauliflower lentil soup. Officially done snacking until din.
5:15 PM - Done with workie. Make a nuun and do barre live stream. The class recording this time is actually “easy” which is nice – my body must be adjusting to the new moves. Make leftover bean cheeze and rice burritos for din.
7:00 PM - K and I watch King of the Hill for a bit and then he plays RocketLeague while I read some Remain in Love and then work on a post for Russian dressing. Watch some of the Challenge in the background.
DAY TWELVE TOTAL: $0.43
DAY THIRTEEN
8:30 AM - Good morning to me! See a charge come in from Blueland for soap & dishwasher tablets. Kind of a bummer because I don’t need them at all right now. Move my next delivery date to November 1 and put a note on my calendar a week before to check my stock. Note that the Instacart charge is gone. Hooray! Make a chemex, do the dishes and spray down the counters. $25.19
9:30 AM - Not sure what it is about today, but my calendar is clear and I know tomorrow is going to suck with meetings, so I really take my time and ease into the day. I don’t feel super confident posting the Russian dressing all over the interweb and would rather stage it as a thousand island vs Russian dressing kind of thing, so I just decide to post on Insta, Pinterest, and one Reddit forum before deciding that’s good enough.
10:00 AM - Eat a yogurt. These Oui ones are really too sweet for me, but I’m at the mercy of whatever is on sale because honestly yogurt is a giant rip off. I should learn how to make my own.
12:30 PM - Make another greek salad with La Croix for lunch. Fully prepared to snack again since this guy is just not very filling.
1:20 PM - Eat a handful of mini pretzels
2:30 PM - Eat a cup of cauliflower leek soup. I’m actually caught up on work for once which is nice. Looking forward to knocking out barre before 7 PM - hah. We’re still a week out from needing groceries, but it takes a while to plan/prep. With the appraisal on Tuesday, I know it’s not going to be a fun weekend so I start thinking about what I want to make for the rest of the month.
3:30 PM - Find a bougie polenta recipe I want to give a go as well as shoot oil-free instant pot refried beans and nacho cheese with potatoes and carrots. And use all of that to make sheet pan nachos. Should be a fun weekend of shooting there. Eat grapes.
4:30 PM - I can’t hang with how hungry I am. Eat tortilla chips and salsa. Do a barre live stream and do a peloton 10 minute low impact ride.
8:00 PM - K isn’t hungry for dinner so I heat up a Philly burrito and eat it with more tortilla chips and Sweedish Fish for “dessert.” I watch some of The Challenge and then K and I play Mario Kart and watch Letterkenny before turning in.
DAY THIRTEEN TOTAL: $25.19
DAY FOURTEEN
8:30 AM - I hate 9 AM meetings. Get my shit together enough to make a chemex before I have to be on the call.
10:00 AM - I can’t handle how many snacks I keep eating throughout the day. Toast a bagel for breakfast with Earth Balance, everything but the bagel seasoning, nooch, and salt. Eat some Sweedish Fish while I wait for the bagel to toast.
12:30 PM - Make the same greek salad with a lemon La Croix. I eat quickly as I have to present at 1 so I eat quickly in prep for that.
2:50 PM - It’s over! It went well and got good compliments on my presentation skills by all parties. AND I’m not starving. A win for all! I realize half the lights in my bedroom & bathroom are out which is a bad scene for appraisal. Buy some replacements on Amazon. $27.98
3:10 PM - Start building the grocery order for next Wednesday. I realize I’m doing this really far in advance, but I’m worried I won’t have the gusto for it this weekend.
4:30 PM - Heat up a small cup of cauliflower leek soup for a snack. Debate to myself about whether or not I want to do barre and for whatever reason an hour of it sounds boring. DDR sounds fun though so I go for that instead. Get a good cal burn and even AA Kind Lady on Heavy. It’s coming back baby!
6:00 PM - Rinse off and make dinner – we’re doing Reubens tonight with roasted potatoes. Really really delicious dang.
8:30 PM - Drink a yellow chartreuse with Lagunitas Hop Water and play Mario Kart with K. Then edit photos of cauliflower lentil soup for my blog.
DAY FOURTEEN TOTAL: $27.98

Not Alone
I guess it’s some tall blueberry nerd’s bday today, so that means bday drabble time!
As always, thank you Claudia for being the best beta I could ask for, even when I decide to word vomit out a drabble in like 2 hours. Love you <3
********                          ********
Hinata peers around the corner of the door into Kageyama’s classroom, watching the boy stare unseeingly down at the snowy yard beneath the window. Yachi shifts, her hair tickling Hinata’s nose, and he jumps back before he can sneeze.
“Hey! Watch it! You’ll give us away.”
“I don’t think he’d notice anything right now,” Yachi replies, standing and dusting off her skirt. “It’s like he’s in a trance.”
“I’m telling you, something's definitely wrong with him. He’s possessed,” Hinata tells her, peering back into the classroom and immediately retreating as Kageyama looks forward with a sigh.
“Maybe he’s just tired,” she shrugs, “or he ate too much birthday cake and gave himself a stomachache.”
The team had put together a quick party after that morning’s practice for Kageyama’s birthday. As they were changing in the clubroom everyone pulled out gifts, yelling surprise and patting him on the back. Ukai even brought in a cake from his store, complete with little frosting volleyballs. They were all excited to see his reaction, Hinata especially since he had bought him the brand new sports bag he’s seen him eyeing in a store window, but the response was lukewarm at best. Kageyama thanked them all for the gifts and ate a piece of cake, but there was something off about the soft and even way he spoke, and the flatness of his smile. The team chalked it up to the early hour and Kageyama’s usual ‘Kageyamaness’, but Hinata wasn't convinced.
“I’m sure he’ll be better by afternoon practice,” Yachi assures him, smiling sweetly as the bell rings and the hall fills with students returning to their classrooms.
“Yeah, probably.” Hinata steals one last glance at Kageyama as he reaches into his bag to pull out his notebook, when something catches his eye between the open zipper.
In the time it takes him to walk back to his own class and take his seat a plan has formed, and Hinata smirks to himself.
Can’t hide anything from me, Bakageyama.
***
After class Hinata goes straight to the second floor to find Noya and Tanaka, the two best people he knows to recruit for a super secret mission. He explained the situation and they were immediately on board, the trio racing to the clubroom to get into position.
As expected, Kageyama enters shortly after them, usually the first to arrive, and they jump into action.
“Hey, Kageyama, can I see your bag?” Hinata asks, making a grab for it but missing as Kageyama sidesteps him.
“No, why.”
“I need to see your notes for history. I fell asleep again.”
“Too bad,” Kageyama says, opening the cabinet to pull out his sports bag. “Learn to pay attention.”
“But it’s boring!”
“Kageyama! Let me borrow a pencil and paper, yeah?” Tanaka jumps in, throwing an arm around Kageyama’s neck. “I need to reply to a confession note a girl gave me today but I lost my pencil.”
“That didn’t happen,” Kageyama deadpans, shrugging off Tanaka’s arm.
“What!?”
“Girls never confess to you.”
Tanaka opens his mouth to reply, but deflates, tears welling in his eyes. “You’re right.”
Noya shakes his head, wondering what these amateurs would do without his help. He stretches his fingers, watching carefully as Tanaka grabs onto Kageyama’s leg and lets out a wail, Kageyama despondently trying to shake him off, and lunges forward. He snags the bag easily from Kageyama’s grasp, the taller boy whipping around to gape at him.
“Got any snacks in here, Kageyama?” Noya asks, grinning as he unzips the bag and plunges his hand inside. “I’m hungry, and you should always help out a hungry senpai.”
“Hey! Give that back!” Kageyama yells with more emotion than he’s shown all day.
“Oh, what’s this?” Noya smirks, his fingers clasping around what he knew he’d find. He pulls out a baby blue stuffed puppy, the fur lovingly tattered but still in good shape. It’s glass eyes look up at Kageyama as he blanches, completely freezing.
“Hah! No way!” Tanaka laughs, crocodile tears stopping immediately as he points and laughs at the puppy. “Got somethin’ to tell us Kageyama?”
“Did a giiirl give that to you?” Hinata asks, covering up the bad taste the word leaves in his mouth with a grin and eyebrow wiggle. “Is that why you’ve been so quiet today? Cuz you got a girlfriend right before Christmas?”
“No! Leave that alone!” Kageyama grabs for the puppy, but Noya quickly tosses it to Tanaka, laughing as the three play keep away with the toy.
Kageyama looks frantic, and Hinata starts to feel bad. Maybe this was a bad idea after all. He opens his mouth to tell the others they should stop just as the clubroom door opens and the third years step inside.
“Heads up, Yuu!” Tanaka throws the puppy hard towards Noya who jumps to catch it, but the toy sails straight over his head and out the door. A flash of blue falls over the railing outside, shortly followed by a faint splashing noise.
Everyone stands frozen, Hinata’s hands over his mouth in a gasp, the third years’ jaws on the floor, Tanaka and Noya’s eyes blown wide. Kageyama’s scream breaks the silence.
“DAMN IT!” He sprints to the railing, the others following close behind, and peers over. Down below the puppy sits in a muddy puddle of melted snow, his fur brown and matted instead of soft baby blue.
“Kageyama,” Hinata whispers, gently putting a hand on his shoulder. “I-I’m sorry, we didn’t mean to-,”
“You’ve got about five seconds to get out of my face before I kill you.” Hinata pulls his hand back, feeling as if his fingertips were just burned against Kageyama’s jacket.
He opens his mouth just to close it back, tears stinging at the corners of his eyes. Kageyama glares at him for what feels like an eternity before turning and stomping down the stairs outside the clubroom. They watch as he pulls the puppy from the puddle where it’s already begun to freeze against the snow, and leave.
“Is he...skipping practice?” Tanaka asks, all gusto gone from his voice. “He didn’t even take his stuff with him.”
“Just let him go,” Daichi tells them, ushering them all back inside the clubroom. “I think he needs to be alone for now.”
“I didn’t mean to upset him,” Hinata says, tears now falling and leaving cold trails down his cheeks. “I just wanted to know why he was acting so weird.”
Suga sighs, putting a hand on Hinata’s shoulder. “I probably shouldn’t be telling you this, but birthdays are really hard for Kageyama. I talked to him about it this morning because I thought he seemed sad.”
“But why? Birthdays are awesome.”
“Not for everyone. Some people have bad memories, or they don’t have anyone to celebrate with. Kageyama told me he carries that puppy with him on his birthday because it was a present from his mom when he was a kid. His mom works a demanding job and is away from home a lot, and his dad lives in Tokyo. He said his mom hasn’t been home on his birthday in eight years. She’s always on a business trip this time of year.”
“That’s...awful,” Hinata whispers, feeling terrible. If Kageyama already has a hard time feeling happy on his birthday then why did he have to go and ruin it further? Not only did they tease him, they ruined the thing that was most important to him on his birthday. “What’re we gonna do Suga? He hates me now.”
“He doesn’t hate you, Hinata,” Suga assures him. “He just needs some time to calm down. But don’t worry, I have an idea.”
***
Everyone skips practice that day, and instead they all work together to stock up on party supplies. The team runs around town buying party favors and food, making sure to get all of Kageyama’s favorites, while Suga and Hinata work on the main present.
That evening they all head to Kageyama’s house, bags of goodies in tow. Hinata’s heart races, afraid that Kageyama really does hate him and will make good on the promise to kill him, but the excitement from their plan edges him forward. He stands back as the other’s ring the doorbell, staying hidden behind the taller boys.
The door opens, and Hinata hears Kageyama grunt a rough ‘what?’, his voice thick.
“We came to celebrate with you some more,” Suga tells him, and Hinata hears the rustle of a plastic bag as he shows him the currybuns they brought.
“And to apologize,” Tanaka pipes up.
He and Noya both pop plastic poppers, and Hinata sees confetti and glitter briefly float above their heads as they yell in unison, “Sorry we were jerks!”
“Whatever,” Kageyama answers, and Hinata swears it sounds at least a little bit lighter than before. “Come in I guess.”
“Hold on,” Suga tells him, “there’s one more guest you need to see.”
The crowd starts to split to reveal Hinata in the back, and he takes a deep breath to steel himself before stepping forward.
“Surprise, Kageyama!” He yells, grinning above the open laptop propped in his hands. “We brought someone special along!”
Kageyama’s eyes go wide as he sees the picture on the screen.
“Happy Birthday Tobio-chan!” His mother’s voice says from the speakers.
“Wh-how?” He chokes out, looking between the faces of his smiling teammates.
“You left your bag with your computer in the clubroom,” Daichi explains, “so we skyped your mom to tell her you missed her.”
“How’d you unlock it?”
“The password is Setter09, idiot,” Tsukishima says, receiving a light slap on the shoulder from Yamaguchi.
“Your friends are so sweet to do this, Tobio-chan,” Mrs. Kageyama tells him. “Especially the little orange haired one. He was almost in tears telling me how sad you were today. He really cares about you.”
“Huh!?” Hinata jumps, almost dropping the laptop. “I-I was not! I did not!”
The team laughs, and even Kageyama cracks a little smile, reaching out to take the computer from Hinata before it faces the same fate as the puppy.
“Thanks guys,” he says, nodding at each of them. “And sorry I said I’d kill you, Hinata.”
“Don’t mind,” Hinata grins. “I deserved it.”
Kageyama moves to the side, letting the team file in out of the cold and set down their bags. Kageyama puts the laptop up on the kitchen table, as his mother and his friends sing him happy birthday and pass around plates of food. He catches the eyes of the wet muddy puppy from the countertop where he left it, and his heart tugs for a moment, but the feeling fades quickly in the warm happy room. He doesn’t think he’ll need the puppy anymore.

....no, i dont want to talk to you or hang out with you because, even if i take the creepy shit out, theres still stuff...i mean the whole personality i cant stand.
No, i havent forgotten the past, but im not either bringing it to the present, he just showed that he cant do better, even with communication, i mean talking about it, he still went and didnt respected my boundaries, he kept texting, asking for shit like he was entitled to know and trying to make me tell him about it, i dont want to tell him about certain stuff and i dont have to.
And thats the thing, his whole personality is just...idk how to explain because he still acts like a creep minus the handsy stuff. Him telling his stories how he fucked this and that, how this whole pack of girls were into him like he was Lucifer or some greek god...it all seems like a lie, i have that nympho pheromone going on and i cant feel a vibe from him, like at all, i dont see a chick giving him a second look, either i see him with girls, the only time i saw him with girls was our group...it all came from is mouth, and the thing is, his stories kind of changed from person to person, theres no way, like no way, he sure makes himself very friendly, but like me and like a lot of other of our friends, he seems gay to me, im bi, i have that gaydar very active, and lots of people who dont even know him say he is.
Plus that, the way he tells his stories, is just, its sounds creepy, besides him being a boring person, he just doesnt get along with anything, anytime we went out he didnt went along with anything, hes like a plain bread.
“No i dont want to buy a present together with you”, i dont want to go out with him alone because i know he will try to take info out of me and tell me his “stories” that nobody really cares, and i know i seem vain but i tried to get along with him, i was kind of alright hanging out with him, but...he didnt respected my boundaries again and again and again...and acts like my life is always something bad happening and its always bringing up toxic stuff, and oh, his stories...theres nothing interesting to it, i dont want to know what a member of his family did or what one of his baby nephews did...like...
I was so done...i was looking forward with spending the afternoon with my friend, we were going to eat crepes which i was drooling over, i was sooo looking foward when she tells me that she invited him and we were going to meet anyplace else...not only i honestly didnt wanted to hangout with him, i was already done with the last bday lunch a couple of days before, i would only have to see him the next day, but nope, she asked him to come and i was so...annoyed the whole time, i tried to make the most out of the day because it was my friends bday, but he didnt helped, and lets just say that he kind of made me look bad for not bringing a present, we were suppose to give on the next day so i didnt bring anything, yet he had to buy the most expensive gift making the others look bad, just like he did on the other bday of another friend, which hes not even that close yet bought her a 50€ perfume...like...while we divided a present for us 3 because the dinner was already hella expensive.
So next day i was already crawling to get out of the bed, i wanted to have fun and shit, making my friends bday lunch good, but he is so damn...annoying with his stories, unwanted sex stories that now he makes sure to tell us...i just wanted to go home. I was scrolling on my phone while waiting for the food, my other friend was all pissy for me being on my phone but what a hell would i do, the whole convo was so snooze fest and there was no where to look at, what i was suppose to do? The lunch became a whole afternoon and i was getting physically tired and sleepy, still nobody would budge and go away, it was dinner time when we went away...for fucks sake, i was driving all sleepy tired the whole way. I though it was it, but my friends were already making plans to go out again, all of us...oh fuck...i have to go through that snooze fest all over again...and no, i cant forget his whole thing, hes just a person that i cant deal with more than an hour, i tried to be his friend, but i cant forget and his whole persona is so, annoying, cringey, boring, creepy...oh lets not forget the whole not respecting bounderies and lies.
