to answer, when I draw Desmond with yellow eyes and fainting like a damsel I think in my head its one fo 2 things:

1) he is having such a heavy bleed(hehe pun) his body shuts down and all he can do is to live thru the bleed basically, he would not be able to tell its a bleed even if someone told him it was one(they cant tho since he is stuck in the bleed in his head) so he just has to ride it out. It probobly disorients him quiet a bit once he gets out of it for hrs maybe in some cases days.

2) he is having visions from apple and its such heavy knowledge his human brain kinda goes overheat mode.

he doesnt remember all details, after he is out of the episode he probobly remembers who the bleed was about and some context but not all, but some stuff lingers for few hours sometimes days as mentioned. maybe he finds hard to switch to the language he uses the most or his emotions carry over, like if it was about altair right after he lost his ranks, he feels some petty anger towards Malik he cannot explain but he can figure out it was cocky-altair memories probobly due to context clues. They are probobly like dreams(or nightmares) in a sense where the more he tries to remember the more he forgets about details…

for 2)

He is just not that smart enough (sorry Des ur no Altaïr…)to explain what the apple showed him but he probobly does remember in a sense; if its things like a remedy, a basic invention or instructions that he can learn from a yt video normally he can muscle memory to make em. its more like “how tf did u do that” “uhhh i have no idea” withing a limit lol so he cannot invent phones bc he probobly cant even make a phone in modern day

for his other heavy bleeds where he is not passed out with eyes all gold I think some of the same rules as 1) apply where he doesnt know he is in a bleed, especially if he is bleeding as someone bc at that moment he thinks he is that person, but someone could snap him out of it if they tried (usually if he is bleeding ezio and actual ezio shows up he can make Des snap out of it but its not foolproof) and afterwards he probobly remembers most of it (to his horror) bc he did actively and physically live thru it. for triggers hmm i think anything you want could be a trigger lol but it doesnt have to be “triggered” to happen. I think like that other fic when he first time-travels and lands in Italy or Levant he would most likely have a bleed where he thinks he is someone else sooner or later bc the enviroment shocks him and confuses him (as time travel does) so something that “shocks” him can send him into an episode but he could also be totally fine in another scenerio

in my hc w the fainting ones, they are similar to seizures w how they come and go (I do not get seizures so my research is very limited) so sometimes he can guess it will happen few seconds to min before but he cannot stop them and sometimes it just gets him by suprise, for the ones where he doesnt faint he again has no idea when it will happen and most likely cannot tell it will, those ones are probobly more affected by “triggers” but they dont have to be as I said above

I must confess something, I do not understand white Vox lol is it just his VA? He may be just a TV with a body but his eyes seem to be drawn as east asian and thats his most prominent human feature. Majority of the time I see people draw him as a human they actually erase his real eye shape to (I assume) make him look more white. There's no real canon so people can hc whatever but I am so intrigued by how people are interpreting him white. I promise there are nasty tech/media ceos that overwork their employees all over the world... maybe im reading too much into it because the show is otherwise verrrry western-centric. Anon ur hella polite and ik u got good intentions so I was stressing a little over how to respond without invalidating ur headcanon cuz like, I never want to be the guy saying “this character is white and u can’t headcanon them as a racial minority” cuz that’s pretty shitty no matter what. We definitely have different takes but when I’m explaining my interpretation I don’t wanna sound like I’m trying to boss ppl around and say there’s only one way u can see these characters. This is just my personal interpretation and I was being funny in my og post implying that my interpretation is the “correct” way. But since u asked I’ll explain my reasoning why I (and prob other ppl) see Vox as extremely white lol.

I don’t take Vox’s physical appearance into account at all when thinking about his ethnicity cuz in a show were everyone is pretty racially ambiguous design wise Vox is one of the most ambiguously humanoid characters, like my guy literally has a tv for a head with eyes and a mouth, and that’s it. I don’t see ur point about his eyes at all tbh, to me Vox’s vaguely slanted eyes have always come off more like a devious squint than an ethnic feature. Even still I don’t read slanted eyes as Asian automatically so it never occurred to me.

I don’t read as Vox as white bcus of his VA being white or him being a tech bro billionaire (but ig they play a part). I read Vox as white mostly bcus I see his background as a former religious extremist/cult leader from the 50s with a skill in life and in death for male manipulating ppl and using them for his own gain as very white and western. (I got this info from his official reference sheet for auditioning va’s, here that is)

His capitalistic ideals and business practices r meant to mirror (extremely white) billionaires like Musk and Bezos, which adds to my perception of him. Of course being a billionaire tech guy is not a western white man exclusive thing, but I feel that if we were meant to perceive Vox as someone not from America that would definitely be coded or in some way communicated. And I say this with as little ill will as possible, but for me I wouldn’t want to perceive Vox as an East Asian tech bro billionaire specifically bcus there r negative stereotypes and connotations attached there. East Asian men have a history of being negatively stereotyped as corrupt tech business owners. I don’t think u are trying to imply those stereotypes with ur head canon (frankly it’s hard to avoid negative stereotypes in fiction a lot of the time bcus stereotypes encompass such a vast range of things that its hard to take them all into account). But regardless, it’s smth we should try to be conscious of.

Anyways, I also usually take these character’s personalities and values, self image, etc into account when im thinking about race, bcus race is more then color, and especially for characters with lives and personalities based in much less tolerant time periods, it’s significant to consider how race would play a role in forming the way they navigate the world. Based on how Vox behaves I can’t see him as being racially marginalized. I’m gonna compare Vox to alastor a little cuz alastor is canonically creole and I think he serves as a good reference for someone I perceive as not white in comparison to Vox and how I think he differs and contradicts the experiences of a racial minority.

Vox to me comes off as someone who thinks he is entitled to power, respect, privilege, etc, which is a very standard type of attitude for a white man who was alive in the 1950s to have. He’s very emotionally immature and volatile, doesn’t seem to concern much over his public image beyond petty dick measuring contests with alastor (he regularly publicly has angry tantrums and doesn’t break a sweat over how this will affect his status). He obviously cares about it (scolding Valentino for embarrassing him and such) but he doesn’t seem to worry about loss of reputation in any sort of real way. I get the impression that Vox has always had at least a standard amount of social standing and privilege and can’t see a life for himself without the fundamental privilege he feels owed there to support him. He’s basically a man baby, a man baby who still manages to garner power and respect effortlessly (it comes naturally to him) while remaining whiny and insecure. Very white man of him! White man behavior!

in comparison, Alastor, (who I do not read as white) is always frantically clinging to his composed self image and his power as if it will slip away from him if he loosens his grasp at all. He has an extremely firm grip on his composure to the point where he never allows anyone to see him slip at all, let alone frown (despite his mental health and emotional well being being equally fragile as Vox’s). Alastor understands deeply how little the world owes him and how difficult and unreliable his acquiring of status actually is. He is borderline neurotic about retaining his power and staying on top. Despite the smile, Alastor is always defensive and fearful, picking fights with anyone he thinks might be a threat like a small dog or a prey animal would. Meanwhile, Vox conducts himself like a man with nothing to loose. I feel like Vox grew up with money and doesn’t know poverty or a lack of privilege in any intimate way that would drive him to guard it in anyway beyond flippant. To Vox power, status, and privilege are inherent. Same can’t be said for alastor.

tldr in conclusion Vox’s brand of bad feels very specific to a white man, alongside his emotional immaturity and his attitude, mindset, and behavior. This is why I see him as white asf, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong or it’s in anyway less correct to headcanon him as a different race. That’s just how I see him. i can defs try! i cant promise i have really anything "smart" or insightful to say, cuz my husband and i just kinda draw from our own experiences :o

(if u are reading this and dont know what schizoaffective disorder is, im writing this w/ the definition of "a combination of schizophrenic symptoms and mood disorder symptoms like major depressive and bipolar disorder")

bob has felt the most schiz to us from the start, he's got his voices, which feel way more like he's acting as a mouthpiece for the objects he's talking to, rather than him just doing a bit. he knows its not "real" but also. it is to him. (i think hes also had some? hallucinations? but most are drug or stress induced and he also has a lot of cartoon dream sequences so...?) he struggles with paranoia and anxiety, and he's had pretty manic and depressive episodes in the show. i think he tries his best to stay grounded and self-aware with his delusions. he's very skeptical, and gets really irritated by misinformation. (probs also an affect of his autism tbh)

we also have a hc that he's more irritable and negative in the early seasons bc he's on meds that arent a good fit for him. (we dont really have meds hcs other than that. they might not be able to afford them)

linda's symptoms arent as obvious beyond her delusions like the raccoons and the cemetery stuff, but i think she's taught herself to suppress her issues so she could better support gayle who had more disruptive ones. her parents seem like the "stop being mentally ill its annoying" types. she has her own instances of paranoia and anxiety, but she mostly tries to smother and ignore anything negative she feels. VERY manic and impulsive tho. i think she also has some hallucinations in show but im drawing blanks on specifics.....

i would personally say tina is pretty depressive, but she's good at trying to cope in (mostly) healthy ways. her family is a good support system for her! she does have the most instances of visual hallucinations that arent cartoon bits (she seems to have them a lot when shes feeling guilty...) her anxiety and paranoia reminds me a lot of bob but also of gayle. they have similar outburts

gene has the least examples that i can think of.... i think he considers ken to be pretend and is just joking about him being real bc it annoys bob (compared to tina who thinks her horse Jericho is maybe...a little real) but i think he has some other hallucinations tht arent like that. hes surprisingly anti-social! he definitely often views himself as superior to the kids he knows. gets that from his dad lol. and his mania and impulsiveness are very much like linda :) he doesnt have depressive episodes as much as the others, but they hit him really hard :(

and louise! shes paranoid and has lots of aggression issues! to me she is also very depressed. (the puppet ep is esp relatable to me lol........) and she's VERY manic in the ambergris ep! i think she also has a couple instances of voices similar to bob's? but its kinda hard to tell the difference when shes still a kid who plays pretend with her toys. her talking to the taffy dummy feels more like what bob does tho.

for most details, i draw heavily upon whats already mentioned in canon. the circumstances of carenina's death were detailed in SSR All Through The Night (one of my top personal fave marius cards, i highly recommend it to anyone who hasnt read its story ;w;) which goes: carenina was already ill with Something prior to marius' birth, and that illness was what caused her death really, not marius, but the process of his birth had exacerbated her pre-existing condition, which is why she passed away

ahhhh yes....tot and their love for mysterious illnesses........coINCIDENCE????

so my speculative thoughts on carenina's death are: man it cannot be a coincidence that another character had a Mysterious Fatal Illness. ive got a hunch (or a hope) that carenina's illness was caused by the nxx drug somehow. it'd be super interesting because if that were the case, its reveal would then add immense personal stakes to marius' role in the nxx investigation team (similar to how luke has personal stakes, because nxx caused his illness too). it'd also explain why giann had started the team in the first place. not to say that i Dont think giann wouldve started it solely on want to do good, but it's just Such a specific thing to start investigating, yknow? mama von hagen being connected to this gives a possible reason for how the team even began

though my more general thoughts/hcs on her death is:

i want this because i just hope she got to meet marius, and marius got to meet her, even for just a little portion of both their lives

while hobie does use his guitar as a weapon for some reason he is quite protective of it. they wont try and stop you from touching it or playing it, but he will watch you like a hawk. half out of "oo look another person is interested in guitar" and the other half of "👁️👁️ dont break it i can only do that /j" (a lot of musicians are like that, i would know, im one of them. ha)

loves stray animals. cats, dogs, birds, anything. he will stop to pet them if they let him.

he also will talk to cats like any other person. especially spider cat. spider cat could make a cat noise and he'd act like he understood it. "yeah totally man, i get it. meow."

he can sing like... averagely? he has a good sense of pitch and timing, as most musicians do, but she isnt professionally trained or really does it too often

also really likes messing with makeup and bodypaint. he will spend hours on it if he can.

(a small thing written wrt @digital999placebo‘s excellent hc for ludwig’s inception, and the musings between me and one of my beloved mutuals. affectionately titled “frankenlutz” in my google docs.)

The first time Venezia saw the sickly boy Prussia called “the German Empire” up close, he fainted.

The second time, after he woke back up, he swung a punch square into Gilbert’s jaw.

How dare he? How dare he mutilate his beloved into some grotesque thing? And to parade it around like some grand accomplishment! Feliciano had seen many disturbing things in his impossibly long life, but looking into the eyes of his dear Holy Rome, roughly set into the twisted face of this unnatural monster of a nation, shook him to his core. He could hardly be in the same room as it without feeling ill. Hopefully, he prayed, Gilbert’s little science experiment would die soon and be out of its misery, and he wouldn’t have to see it any more.

Unfortunately, Gilbert was determined to keep it alive, leading him to beg for help at Feliciano’s front door.

He chased after Feliciano down the hall of his manor. “Feli, I know he’s not quite there yet, but you have to give him time! He’s going to be a great nation!”

Feliciano spun around on his heels and leered in close. “That thing is not a nation,” he snapped. “All you did was butcher Johannes’ corpse and stitch it back together.”

Gilbert flinched at the mere mention of his brother. “Please, just give him a chance. He needs all the love and support he can get. I…” He sighed and dropped his gaze to the floor. “I can’t do this alone. I need help. He needs help. Not nation to nation, but person to person.”

“What am I supposed to do?”

“I don’t know, just spend time with him. I’m doing what I can to get him up to speed on history and politics and all that, but he needs someone to teach him how to be a person. Maybe start by not calling him ‘it’. He’s still a child.”

Feliciano’s glare softened. It- no, he was still a child. No matter how he was brought into this world, he was deserving of compassion the same as any other. Even though he was bound to die soon, why shouldn’t the boy be shown love in his short time on Earth?

After staring at an expectant Gilbert for a few moments, Feliciano finally spoke. “I’ll do it,” he agreed, “but when the child finally dies, keep it that way.”

Feliciano was in over his head. By appearance, the child- Ludwig, Gilbert had christened him- had to be at least thirteen, but by his mind… It was hard to tell. He seemed to understand everything he heard, but couldn’t perform basic tasks like dressing himself or cutting up his own food, making Feliciano’s lessons in fashion and etiquette exceedingly difficult.

Feliciano finally unknotted the mangled laces of Ludwig’s boots and deftly retied them, securing them with a little bow. “There!” He sat back on the floor, his hands on his hips. “Maybe we’ll save dressing for later. Do you want to do something a little more fun? Oh, how about drawing?”

Ludwig tilted his head. He didn’t speak much lately; he wasn’t talkative in the first place, but after a few weeks with Feliciano, the corners of his mouth began to split and Gilbert had to place more sutures, making speech difficult.

“You’ll like it, come on!” Feliciano stood and extended his hand to Ludwig, who took it and pulled himself up onto shaky feet. “You’re lucky, you know. Not everyone gets private lessons from an authentic Italian artist!”

Ludwig’s cheeks twitched in what must have been a smile protesting against the stitches, and Feliciano beamed. He led the boy into his study and sat him down at a small table near a window. Feliciano dug out a sketchbook and a small tin holding pencils and charcoal, and ripped out a page for Ludwig before sitting down with the sketchbook.

“Let’s start with something simple, like… that vase!” Feliciano pointed to a small vase of flowers on the windowsill. “You can ignore the flowers, just draw the vase. Here-“ he handed Ludwig a pencil. “All you have to do is put the pencil to paper and draw what you see.”

Ludwig took the pencil from Feliciano and eyed it curiously. He looked back up, his brows furrowed.

“Watch me.” Feliciano took a pencil for himself and began making short, light strokes on the paper, sketching out the curved outline of the vase with practiced ease. “It’s not as hard as it looks, I promise.”

Ludwig pressed his own pencil to the paper and stared determinedly at it as he began to draw, though his unsteady hands left the lines thick and wobbly. He nearly snapped the pencil after his hand jerked, striking a dark line across his drawing. He dropped the pencil with a huff and began to shake.

“Lud, are you alright?” Feliciano leaned in closer. Oh, he was crying. He didn’t think he had ever seen Ludwig sad before. Until then, Feliciano didn’t know the child could cry in the first place, but here he was, fat tears spilling down his face. Feliciano wrapped his arms around Ludwig and hugged him tight. “You’re okay, mi cocco, you’re doing a good job,” he assured him.

“No, ‘m not,” Ludwig said, his words clumsy and slurred. He pulled away from Feliciano and harshly rubbed his eyes.

“You are! I didn’t get good overnight, it took years.”

“Don’t have that long.”

Feliciano’s cheerful smile dropped away. “What did you say?”

“I’m s’posed to die soon.” Ludwig looked up at Feliciano, his expression unreadable except for his puffy red eyes. “S’what Mama Erzsi said.”

“She told you that?” Feliciano knew Erzsébet, and knew she would never say something like that to a child.

“T’ Austria. Thought I didn’ hear, but I did.”

Feliciano took Ludwig back into his arms and held him close as he himself began to tear up. So he knew. Ludwig knew he was destined to die, and they were all just playing along. Feliciano cringed wondering what he may have heard from him; did Ludwig ever hear him call him “an ugly, perverse monster” or “an affront to God”? He cursed himself internally over it. What Gilbert did was wrong, but the child was innocent in all this. Who was he to condemn Ludwig as a monster, a failed experiment? Looking down at the boy in his arms, Feliciano made a silent vow to give Ludwig as much kindness as he could in the short time he had left.

(Which may not be so short after all.)

Hi! So I have a few things I wanted to say/ask so hopefully this isn't too long or out of place or anything

Okay so first off, you always reblog and say such nice things about my art in the tags and I wanted to say I appreciate it so much, I never know what to say but like you're the backbone of the hikakao community so it feels like a seal of approval in a way haha. And your art is so amazing like, damn! I love it sm. Kaoru has been my fav character for nearly a decade so I love seeing that its not just me he has a grip on, and as an autistic person myself who loves princesses’ and specifically Cinderella… well your hc means a lot to me haha. Oh and your hanahaki fic??? I ugly cried. SO damn good like the characterizations… one of the best Hikakao fics I've read on god

So I kinda wanted to ask two things, first being if you had to choose for the other hosts to have a fav princess who would it be? Im personally very partial to Tamaki loving Belle, given the like french beauty and romanticism of it all, plus her giving herself up for the safety of a parent connection. I like the idea of him being kinda dumb and taking it as you need natural inner AND outer beauty, which he oh so obviously has in spades and that kind of nonsense. Idk I was just curious if you'd have an opinion on this as ive been giving it some thought lately. Especially on Hikaru, I think he would like a more down to earth princess that doesn't have too much frills or singing in the film, like Merida because it's the most adventurous one without character songs if you're just going off disney. But idk I feel like another princess would suit him better, I just can't think of one rn

Second was if you had any thoughts or analysis of how the maid the twins had when they were young impacted them and their development? And more importantly how it impacted them each differently? Like obviously her saying no one may ever be able to tell them apart fucked with their heads, but like idk. Ive been thinking about it. And what if they never met her, and she never said that? Would they of been less warped? I think they'd just meet someone else who they liked who couldn't tell them apart, who'd just say the same thing in a different way. But how key was her betrayal of trust during a high stakes robbery of their parent's estate to all this? Im just musing at this point lmao

Oh also less an ask but I personally hc Kaoru to dissociate and the like frequently, and how maybe them being in sync all the time in their mannerisms really helps him with his autopilot moments, and Hikaru is always ready and able to catch him up to speed on what's happening and what they just did, if its something he would care to know that is. And I hc Hikaru as bipolar, his depression just manifests really angerly instead of traditional sadness. But my point is I love the idea that they're just so used to the other that any mentally ill or neurodivergent behavior one of them does the others just like “Oh yeah Kaorus just like that. You know how it is. What do you mean you don't know anyone afraid of hairdryers? Like legit afraid? Yeah no thats just a thing. Hmm. Well you should get over it it's his fear not yours I dont see how it concerns you.” and like gets defensive if anyone tries to say it's weird lmao

THIS IS SO FUCKING SWEET YES!!! I WAS DRAWING HIKAKAO RIGHT AS YOU SENT THIS ASK TOO BTW.... i was htinking like, should i post this... theres kissing..... but then i remember why it's so rewarding to do what I love <3 really and truly. I've met SO many incredibly kind, creative, and thoughtful people through hikakao it's insane. And tbh it makes me want to never stop posting about them even if it nets me hate every now and again LMAO it's just, stuff like this is irreplaceable to me. And I LOVE your art!!!!!! It's SO cute... the picture of Kaoru dressed as cinderella made me legit scream. I sent it to all my friends and showed it to my brother haha. The whole Kaoru/Cinderella headcanon is very personal to me as you can probably gather from my carriage posting. so whenever I see it I go nuts (in a good way. it not destructive).

I think it's very funny (in a good way) that you already had a special interest in princesses, esp Cinderella. For me, it's like...I can NOT look at anything Cinderella related normally anymore because I'm reminded of the carriage allegory, and yet we have Cinderella movie nights every thursday now because of me...I describe my relationship with Cinderella as "stockholm syndrome" because i legit didn't care about or really even know Cinderella before all this went down, but now she is my Worst Enemy but Best Friend and if anybody says Cinderella is mid I'm blowing up another hostage.

Also!!! Thank you so much about the fic!!! While looking back I feel like there are def things I could improve on, I do really like that fic. As somebody who's personally arospec, I have trouble writing the "feelings" of romance so I tried my best. I have other Hikakao adjacent stories I'm writing and I wanna post them here!!!

Okay, onto the questions...firstly, YES, Tamaki DOES seem like the type to love Belle. He may also enjoy Rapunzel and her whole being held captive her whole life because maybe he feels the same way with his own family situation. Haruhi strikes me as a little mermaid type, no real reason, I just get that vibe. Although Kyoya probably relates to the original fairytale of the little mermaid in some ways for sure. I actually HC Mori's favorite movie is Beauty and the Beast, so he's probably also really into Belle. As for Hani, I'm not sure...Giselle, maybe. He likes her whimsy.

Hikaru is interesting, because I feel like he's like Me in which he HATES Cinderella because he has to hear about it 24/7 but if ANYBODY said anything mean about cinderella he'd be like...you bitch...you take that BACK. Altho I have this headcanon that Hikaru's favorite princess is Alice from Alice in Wonderland (tho she really isn't a "princess") because he always liked that movie better. Kaoru would cry as a kid tho when Hikaru said he thought that movie was better so he pretended to like Cinderella more. But he doesn't. Merida tho...that's a very good choice, I can defff seeing Hikaru being a big Merida fan.

So, to the second question: it's very interesting! What stood out about that maid to Hikaru and Kaoru was the fact she was mean to them. being raised as rich and "better" than everyone else, all the maids HAD to be nice or they got fired pretty much, so to see a maid go against that status quo, to treat them honestly...that's why they liked her so much.

If anyone else had said "nobody will be able to tell you two apart", would it have hurt? sure. But it wouldn't be devastating, because they likely wouldn't care about that person's opinion. but they liked this maid, they looked up to her in a weird way. Having somebody you like and trust tell you something hurtful is way more harmful than if a stranger did it.

Now...would they be LESS twisted if it never happened? I doubt it. I mean, maybe they'd be LESS focused on looking identical, but they would still be rather cruel and mischievous, because that's how they were simply raised: they were raised being taught their actions have no consequences, because they're better than everyone else. Simple by being "Hitachiins", they had a pass to do all sorts of nasty shit to people because they were rich and powerful. Besides, canonically, their mom & dad were barely in their lives, and child neglect causes the children to act out to get attention, usually via things that would get them scolded. So, while they miiight not have been AS keen on matching had that maid never said what she did before leaving them forever, they would probably be just as mean and cruel.

To le third point: YES that is so good. Kaoru very much dissociates in my heart of hearts as well. He has days on end where he doesn't feel like he's in his own body, everything's sort of a blur, he can't remember things well...Hikaru's there for him in those moments at least.

I always saw Hikaru and Kaoru as ADHD/Autism solidarity. But bipolar is an interesting one, too. I could def see it.

Also the hairdryer thing FUCKING RELATABLE...I'd think Kaoru is "afraid" of hairdryers/thunder - just really fucking loud noises that are sudden and/or unceasing. They don't make him "cower" necessarily but like, he gets super jittery/irritated because he gets overwhelming anxiety from it. Hikaru as a kid probably didn't understand why his brother acted so strangely to certain sights/sounds/touches, and maybe at first teased him about it, but when it was clear these things actually DISTRESSED Kaoru he stopped and did everything he could to make him feel better. and if anybody makes fun of kaoru for it Hikaru beats the shit out of them.

do you have any tips about characterizing josh??

um, tips? not... really, i dont know. its everyones own interpretation, its not like he's THAT deep of a character though yknow? the biggest tip i can give is to look into schizophrenic resources and read about the disorder without the lense of hollywood ableism, maybe talk to people who are on the schizospectrum or experince psychosis? uhm

but other than that, i really do just kind of absorb all of the information i can about josh, ive been thinking about making a large masterpost of all of the things we know about him and the sources, considering the wikis kind of old and confusing and a mess. like heres some examples

josh is schizophrenic, and has been in treatment since he was 11. which means he likely did something to harm another kid, or himself, considering it was called an "incident" and it's pretty hard to get kids in that strong of a treatment unless something really bad happened, OR something legal had happened with his parents. so that gives us three routes, josh either had an incident where he hurt himself or another kid due to early onset mental illness, or joshs parents or family members ended up in some legal trouble and josh was put into therapy due to it, or a mixture of both. this would probably leave josh rather socially inept, due to lack of socialization because of the focus on mental care (and how often he was hospitalized) i also doubt the mental health care was great, considering the more money you throw at the institute, often times the more cruel the experience is.

josh is a movie geek, his dad is a big movie name and both of them seem to have an interest in special effects and direction specifically, instead of acting or writing. which makes me believe josh is rather introverted, instead of extroverted (i like to hc Beth was similar, but wanted to be an actor instead due to her extroversion) and he has an interest in horror movies and scary stuff, as well as psychology. that leads me to believe he's likely a bit more on the "emo" side, closed off, kind of regarded as awkward or scary due to it. he's likely not a popular kid, but i think he'd be well liked both because he's rich and because he's rather friendly. the kind of guy college kids befriend because they want free booze but don't actually care about.

josh is afraid of abandonment, this is a fact, he is also very confrontational but HATES conflict and fighting. this makes me believe he's a people pleaser, and easily irritated when people dont try to get along. that also leads me to believe he was likely an outsider of the friend group because of that, due to how much in fighting there is. i doubt he'd like that.

and then i work from all of those facts, what kind of person would that create? yknow? is that making any sense. i dont know. there are a lot of things i think people dont take into consideration when writing josh, like the fact that he's canonically a nepotism baby and likely well known due to his fathers own fame, or that he likely went through with the ECT even though it says he denied it (likely after hannah and beths disappearance, when he was hospitalized post suicide attempt, since they wouldn't really need 'permission' from him afterwards) or that he's an artist and draws a lot, or that he's shy and strays away from crowds (constantly called a loner, sits in the back of classes, doesn't express joy a lot)

#i pick a couple facts and then i try to think about what kind of person would either do/be those things #or i try to think of a person who would be an amalgamation of those things happening to them #and then i fuse all those traits together #it helps that my entire family is generally also a lot like the washingtons #we're all psychotic and unwell and obsessed with horror movies and art and have issues communicating #txt

i dont know what it is about yi sang that made me so obsessed with him but im DOWN BAD. in that id rattle his bones and *u** *** and that ive been having fun analyzing him under a microscope. the current thought i keep tossing around about him is that i think his ids vary a bit more in personality than the other sinners (or maybe thats just me paying more attention to him). like idk i just think with the other sinners you always see a bit of their base personality shine through but each yi sang is so...different? he IS a shattered mirror in that each part came from the same exact thing yet their shapes vary vastly

corruption, spiral, or end for hotch please

the corruption: how often does your character get sick? what’s the sickest they’ve ever been?

ok once again reminding me of the hotch sick fic ill never be able to find..

um.. i dont think he gets sick a lot. which is surprising considering i doubt he takes care of himself well. i just dont think he’s a sickly person? cleanliness is at the very least something he maintains. and idk i just cannot for the life of me picture that man congested.

i could see him getting sick frequently as a child. his meager diet and constant injuries probably leaves him susceptible to lots of illnesses. i imagine he ran a fever a lot. i still havent landed on a solid hc for the level of appearances his father would bother to maintain, but if he didn’t care as much then i doubt the kitchen would be well stocked. the malnutrition and the poor condition of whatever food is in the house would probably lead to stomach bugs and things like that.

so he likely built up a strong immune system during his childhood, and increased his tolerance for dealing with various symptoms. he’s probably perfectly capable of coming to work with a fever or some other problem—this is a guy who wasn’t about to share whatever pain he felt from his internal bleeding until he passed out. he’s very adept at hiding whatever weaknesses he’s experiencing.

the spiral: how strong is your character’s grip on reality? are they quick to believe what others tell them? what is the cruelest lie they have ever believed?

hmm now that certainly depends on what you mean as reality. i think that out of everyone in the team (except maybe emily), he’s the most pragmatic. no matter what emotional state he’s in or painful memories he’s recalling or the depths of his self hatred, he’s still always going to have a foot in reality. he’s too logical to be pried too far from the actual situation at hand.

he’s too skeptical to believe a lie easily and too analytical to be properly manipulated. even in his encounter with scratch, despite the drugs and lewis’s best attempts to draw out the darkest parts of him, hotch was still able to discern delusions from reality. he’s maintained an insane amount of self control through extreme discipline, and that mental strength isnt something that would falter.

i think his adherence to objectivity falters when it comes to criticisms. i dunno if this qualifies as a “lie” per say but every cruel statement thrown at him in anger, true or not, will burrow into his chest and weigh heavy on his mind. even if he knows that the person was trying to be hurtful, he still believes it—it must be true to some extent, right? but i only think it’s because it’s something he already believes. his self loathing makes him particularly susceptible to admonishments from others.

the end: is your character afraid of dying? what death would they choose for themself? what death scares them the most?

hotch!!! my suicidal king!!!! ok i jest but in all fairness.. i think his relationship with death is complicated and definitely something that’s fluctuated over the years. he definitely plays fast and loose with his life more than he’d allow from any one else on the team (they are very aware of his hypocrisy and very annoyed with him about it). but i think that’s more about wanting to die right than wanting to die at all. “he wanted his death to mean something.” if he dies in his line of work, it’s probably by protecting someone or by stopping someone who would hurt others. thats the proper way to die for him, he thinks.

but i think just because he thinks he deserves death doesn’t mean he isn’t afraid of it. part of it is the existential fear all mortals share, but i think another big aspect is that he’ll die before he has a chance to justify his existence. he has this belief that his life is such a waste that he has to constantly make up for it by providing for others or doing good in the world. its a dream that he’ll one day do enough that it will all cancel out and he can just be a regular person—but the cruel joke is that no matter how much he does, he’ll never believe he’s reached that point. every mistake or harmful act is amplified exponentially compared to whatever victories he’s already diminished the value of.
