No one wanted to ask. Someone had to. It was terrifying. But it made sense.

Of course humanity finally abandoned its planet. Everyone was surprised they hadn’t abandoned it sooner. Still, the concern was there.

What made humanity abandon their planet in a mass event? What thing was finally found to scare them off their favorite death world?

Of course not every last human abandoned the planet, but enough did that Earth was no longer considered ‘inhabited’. Humans flocked to other worlds, most choosing death worlds with similar biomes to the ones they preferred. (And there was a suspiciously armored ship heading towards Disney planet.)

The concerning thing was the humans kept going back. Never landing. Never breaking the atmosphere. Just driving by.

Finally, a delegate was chosen to ask the human council member. Poor Laeri was nervous, but they had been called friend by council member Daryl before. Surely this question wouldn’t be an offense.

“Daryl, may I speak with you a moment?”

Daryl paused, and nodded, careful not to smile. He was well practiced in the art of not offending. “Of course Laeri. What is the matter?”

“Humanity has recently applied for habitation permits for a dozen planets. As soon as the permits were awarded, humans left very quickly.”

“Well sure. The permits took three earth years to be approved. Most of the planet had been preparing for over five years at that point,” Daryl explained.

“Yes, that is not my question. The question is why?”

“Why were they ready?”

Laeri shook their head. “Why did they leave Earth? Humans have made it a point to ‘stick it out’ despite better options being available. Why leave now?”

“Oh, that. Well.” Daryl paused. He knew he didn’t have to report officially yet, but his friend wanted to know. “Will you keep it a secret from the council?”

Laeri paused. The answer being a secret did not occur to them. What could the humans possibly be hiding? Would they be able to hide it as well?

“I do not think I can keep any dangerous thing a secret,” Laeri finally admitted.

Daryl nodded. “Nor would I ask you to. It’s not dangerous, just a little experiment more like.”

“If it is an experiment, then you should speak with-“

“No Laeri.” Daryl interrupted calmly. “This isn’t something we want help with. That’s why we haven’t mentioned anything to the Viyon Academics. We just need time to see if it works.”

Their curiosity finally got the better of them.

“If what works?”

“A new society. A new civilized species.”

Laeri didn’t speak, but either from awe or concern, they weren’t sure. Daryl continued.

“We believe a species evolves when they start to take care of their injured and impaired. It means they have compassion. Well an intelligent species on earth has been observed showing compassion. We simply want to give them the space they require to evolve.”

Laeri considered the intelligent species that lived on earth. They were suddenly very concerned. Had the humans been duped?

“The dolphi are showing compassion?” Laeri asked.

Daryl almost laughed. “Not even close. No, we wouldn’t break the agreement we made. They’re not escaping earth anytime soon.”

Laeri felt immediate relief. “Then which species is it?”

Daryl smiled. He couldn’t help it. He liked birds. “Corvids.”

“But, but they’re so small.”

“We know. That’s why some humans are still there, zoologist types to help them grow, learn, and show them the way.”

“What if another species wipes them out before they get the chance?”

Daryl shrugged. “Well that’s why we left some warriors behind, to help keep the corvids alive while they grow. And of course to keep the dolphins contained. We do take that assignment very seriously.”

Laeri was excited now. Another avian species may be joining the galaxy soon. They wanted to tell everyone.

“Promise you’ll keep the secret?” Daryl asked.

Laeri felt their excitement dash upon the cruel rocks of reality. “I will.”

“Good. Here.” Daryl held out a small computer drive.

Laeri took the drive. “What is this?”

“The live feed of the experiment. You really think we wouldn’t watch? As soon as they reach civilized status, I have to report them. Until then, they’ve been completing some very complex puzzles and problem solving lately. You’ll want to start at the beginning but they post new information all the time.”

Laeri clutched the drive to their feathered tunic. Suddenly the small drive was priceless. “I, must go now.”

Laeri took off as fast as would be ignored by others. Daryl watched his friend, surprised by how excited they were. His watch gave him an alert.

“Ooh, a group puzzle. Wonder if they managed it this time.”

Daryl walked off to his own private quarters to watch the newest update on the corvids.

♡ HAPPY MINHYUK DAY ♡ with all the fondness i hold for him in my heart i am wishing minhyuk a day full of warmth and happiness spent with people he loves in the comfort of his own home or an equivalent safe and cozy place. 

quick cc note: hi i think we all know at this point <3 it won’t be quick i won’t even pretend this time! so buckle in babes i actually have an unexpected (or maybe quite expected!) great many feelings about minhyuk!!

ok ok first thing i want to say is. we don’t know our idols i would never presume to know what they’re like in their day to day life BUT i have a strong suspicion that if i’d be in such danger of falling in love w/ minhyuk if he was just some guy i knew. ;LKASDFJKL;ASJ. ok that was humiliating glad i got that out of the way! <3 now we can get started.

minhyuk is an INTERLOPER!! he stole his way into my heart and took up residence!! he simply arrived and settled in and REFUSED TO LEAVE!! the audacity of it all. i was sitting so so pretty w/ my mx megline i was perfectly happy and comfy with my three guys and then it was like he stomped his foot and said BUT WHAT ABOUT ME and my resistance buckled. (what actually happened is that wings wore me down and i had to admit that i did like him so much in fact.)

what actually actually happened is that i came to. really appreciate the way he has steel in his spine, but most of the time, before you ever even get to that, you get his winsome smile and his twinkling eyes and his voice and his words laden with honey and you blink and suddenly he’s gotten his way. i like that he always stands up for his loved ones and isn’t afraid to tell fans to stay in line and i like that in 2020 he took stock of his group and their situation and the terrible song that their company wanted them to come back with and he said. we will not be doing that, actually. and he convinced them and then jooheon said ‘here’s gambler’ and the rest is history!! we get jooheon title tracks now!!!

i like that he doesn’t enjoy being the de facto eldest and in charge of greetings with shownu in the military but that he puts his best foot forward to represent his group anyway! i like that he loves narrative driven music videos and that he’ll analyze storylines and scenes with enthusiasm! i like that he loves whales, and i like that the reason he loves whales is that to him they represent being able to carry his loved ones towards good things. i like his tenacity in the face of adversity and the way he proved himself on no.mercy so many years ago and hit the ground running and has grown in spades since then, but still thinks so fondly of the fabric softener that he and hyungwon would use during their hard trainee days.

i like his sense of humor and his seemingly boundless energy when he’s got his entertainer hat on, and the way that he’s such a homebody on his own time. i like that he is keenly aware of the effect he can have on others as an idol, and that he thinks a lot about the bond between kpop stars and their fans, and that he in turn seeks to maintain a healthy relationship with mbbs.

i like that he’s an artist through and through, and i like when he paints to express himself and i like when he paints presents for the members and i like when he does crafts on vogueshipshow and his brow furrows when he focuses hard.

the thing maybe i don’t like is that !! he never really. seems to acknowledge how important he is to the group and i would like to grab him by the shoulders and tell him that he is so so vital to their dynamic and their success as a group and that he works so hard and has done so much to get mx’s name out there and that without his particular vocal timbre mx songs would sound empty and without him onstage you’d acutely feel that something special was missing.

whew anyway. lee minhyuk i adore you in a normal, non-parasocial manner. i hope that this next year ushers in a chapter of your life that brings you a measure of peace and a chance to rest, and that you can take the time to breathe and just be. and i hope the year brings you so many reasons to laugh and smile. we love you and we’ll keep walking with you no matter what the road ahead brings!!

sometimes when playing ark you completely forget about something you’ve read.

I finally build a nice little enclosure for all (I think it’s around this number) 30 dodos. I put a feeding trough in and fill it up. I set everyone to passive flee, wandering, disabled mating.

I take a quick step outside to grab something, come back, look up in horror at all the mating hearts floating above the enclosure. I completely forgot that you can’t turn off mating when they’re wandering, and that they automatically mate when they wander.

so I guess I’m gonna have to deal with that tomorrow (use the resulting eggs to make kibble)

So i just realised something recently

In chapter 55.5 Vanitas tells Misha that he became Luna's kin in order to kill her with the book as she had become a curse bearer.

He claims that's the "truth" of what happened on "that day"

BUT

Curse bearers don't turn into dust when they die. We see this in the chapter where Louis died.

AND GUESS WHAT

GUESS FUCKING WHAT

Luna turned into dust when she died. Which would be theoretically impossible unless Luna was different from other vampires(which they were but..like... we don't know in exactly WHAT way)

What I'm trying to get at here is:

Vanitas didn't become Luna's kin to kill them. He became Luna's kin so that he could use the book to HEAL them but something obviously went wrong in the process and Luna died.
