For the record I don't think the Sannin had some sort of dramatic falling out. I think they grew apart in a way that they almost didn't notice. I think they found different interests, different people, and no matter how much they told themselves they were still as close as they'd always been they weren't. And I think it was a process of continually realizing these people aren't who you idealized in your mind; that they are maybe, kind of, sort of bad people; that they have done things you can't ignore, and that, maybe, they are your enemies. But there's no closure there. There's no sense of relief to be gained. Because you love them. You love them more than anyone in the world–– more than your students, more than your spouse, more than your family, more than your village. They know more about you than anyone ever will or ever could. They hold pieces of you, not only in your knowledge, not only in your youth, but in your soul, because they are one-third of it. You know them more, and less, than anyone could, and definitely more than you should

Your resident Crawling Chaos, back with more OPLA headcanons.
Another huge thanks to everyone who's been sharing and liking and following. You're all just amazing. I'm working on getting through these headcanons alongside an ask request, that latter of which I'm almost finished with and may be up tonight.
Without further ado, it's headcanons with everyone's favorite green-haired swordsman, Zoro!
Tumblr media
Whoops, wrong gif.
Tumblr media
I'm SORRY I COULDN'T RESIST.
I mean it's totally normal to pick at the people you love.
So, headcanons. Like Mihawk and Shanks, ranging from total fluff to spicy, and very much NSFW.
LA!Zoro X Fem!Reader
A— Through —Z(oro)
A — Afterglow (How are they have sex?)
Considering how much effort he exerts training on a daily basis, he's going to fall asleep pretty quickly.
But you're not going anywhere.
Not with his arms curled around you, holding you against his chest.
Even if he's already asleep, his grip is going to tighten around your waist, keeping you close.
He hasn't been close to many people in his life, and he's pretty starved for physical affection, so your warmth is positively addictive to him.
B — Backrubs? (Do they like them? Like giving them?)
Looks at you like you're speaking another language if you offer him one.
"Wha...why?"
But he's not going to turn it down.
And he's never going to turn it down again after the first time.
"O...oh. Oh—that feels—oh shit yeah..."
He thought that "sore" was just the default state of anyone who spent the vast majority of their time physically active.
He'll try to return the favor if you want one. He's a little clumsy about it since it's not exactly something he's used to doing, but his hands always feel nice and he takes instruction well enough.
It's not long before his hands are wandering, though.
Not that you're complaining.
C — Cuddling (Do they enjoy cuddling a lot or only at certain moments?)
Zoro likes having you close, but mostly in private.
He loves to bury his face in the crook of your neck while you comb your fingers through his hair.
Wrap his arm tight around your waist and just breathe you in.
D — Dance (Are they good at it? Do they enjoy it?)
Says he has two left feet, but he's never realy tried.
He'll let you try to teach him, but he's going to complain the whole time.
"Come on, what's the point in this? Can't we just spar instead?"
And probably blush a little about how close you are.
And definitely never admit out loud that he actually enjoys it.
E — Extravagant Gestures (Things they do to make you feel loved)
Zoro is pretty new to this, so you're going to have to bear with him.
He's spent the entirety of his life focused on his career as a swordsman and never taken any time for romance before.
Doesn't really think much about doing anything extravagant.
But he will literally put his life on the life to keep you safe.
Even if he knows you're pretty strong yourself, he goes completely ferral if he sees you've been hurt.
F — Fighting (How do they hand arguments/apologies?)
He has to always get the last word in.
Turns into a bit of an overgrown toddler, honestly. Slamming doors and being in general grumpy about the whole ordeal.
Refusing to talk about the problem for a while, then feeling guilty after the fact.
Approaching you later when no one else is around, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Look, I probably...could have handled that better. Not really used to this, but—y'know. Sorry."
If he sees you've been crying he's instantly gutted.
G — Going Out (What do they do for dates?)
If you have anything specific in mind, you're going to have to do the planning.
It's not that he doesn't enjoy spending time together—he just doesn't really understand what constitutes a "date"
Gets a little awkward about asking.
"Hey, ah—you know, I'll probably get lost if I leave the ship by myself so...wanna go do something?"
H — Heartache (How would they handle it if you broke up with them?)
He's going to do everything in his power to act like he's unaffected.
But everyone notices it.
Snapping and being more short-tempered than usual.
Spending more and more time training and napping.
Deflecting when anyone asks about it.
Unable to get you out of his head and working himself to the point of overexertion just to try to ignore his thoughts.
I — Intimacy (When are they intimate with you? And how often?)
Mostly in private.
Will probably curl his arm around your waist when you stand close.
Straight-up blushes when you kiss him in front of the rest of the crew at first, even on the cheek, but he gets used to it over time and starts returning the gesture.
In private, it's a miracle if he's not holding you.
He absolutely loves it when you lay across his chest with your cheek at his shoulder.
J — Joker (How do they make you laugh)
Not really one for cutting jokes, but his sarcastic one-liners are an art form.
Especially when he gets into an insult-match with Sanji.
Even if you are typically the one who has to break it up before comes to blows.
K — Kissing (How good? How often?)
He honestly loves kissing you, and he's going to take any chance to pull you aside to do so.
He's starved himself of physical affection for the vast majority of his life, so he savors every second of it.
Pulling you against him by your hips and wrapping an arm around your waist.
Or walking you back into the wall and leaning over you with his hand over your head.
Slow, deep kisses when you wake up in his arms are his weakness.
L — Lay down (How do they sleep with you? Are they a cuddler or do they prefer their space?)
He has to have you against him.
Laid across his chest with an arm around your back.
If you wake up before him, you're not going anywhere until he's ready to move.
If you're too busy to nap, he's going to wait until you're not.
Absolutely refuses to lay down without you at any given time.
M — Making babies (Do they want to settle down and have kids?)
Yeah, no.
At least not for a very long time.
His dream of being the world's greatest swordsman takes precedence right now. Having a kid would make that borderline impossible.
N — Nervous? (How confident are they when it comes to romance?)
As confident as Zoro is about everything else, this whole romance thing has him pretty out of his element.
Had a few one night stands and flings during his time pirate hunting, but never anything serious.
He would never admit that he's nervous, but he's more obvious than he thinks.
Trying to act aloof but stumbling over words.
Getting legitimately surprised when you do the simplest little things for him.
O — Oral Fixation (Giving or recieving? And how good are they?)
Your mouth makes him weak.
Shivering when you wrap your hand around his cock and trail your tongue up the length and wrap your lips around the head.
Gripping your hair with both hands, alternating between laying his head back and watching you.
He's pretty sure he'd go crazy if he watched you the entire time, especially with the way you gaze up to meet his eyes.
Holding your head still when it gets too good to hold back and thrusting back to your throat.
"Oh fuck I love it when you gag on it—"
He's definitely returning the favor.
Picking you up and setting you on the nearest surface—a bed, a hammock, a table, anywhere he can tug off your panties and pull your legs over his shoulders.
Slow and sensual, but not teasing—he just loves hearing your little moans and whimpers, feeling your thighs trembling.
Pushing one or two fingers in and out of you so he can feel you tighten up when you come.
P — Pet Peeves (Things they don't like in a partner)
Nagging. You asked him to do something and he's going to do it, don't get pushy about it or it's going to take him even longer.
Lack of communication—he is new to this whole relationship thing, you can't expect him to know everything you want all the time if you don't tell him.
Flirting with Sanji. Just don't. He can and will murder that shitty waiter.
Q — Quiet Time (How much alone time do they need, or do they want to be with you 24/7?)
He's always been a solitary person, and it surprises him juat how much time he wants to spend with you.
Doesn't want you glued to his side or anything, but he'd rather be with you than not be with you.
Especially in a new place. He knows you can handle yourself, but still gets worried something might happen to you and takes it upon himself to act as your personal body guard.
And let's face it, he'd get lost if he went off on his own anyway.
R — Romance (How romantic are they? Do they have to force it or does it come natural?)
For not having much experience, he's honestly incredibly sweet when you're alone together
Playing with your hair.
Foreheads touching just so he can look into your eyes.
Slow, tender kisses and gentle caresses.
"You're way too good for me."
Gets absolutely flustered if anyone walks in, and you giggling about it doesn't help.
S — Spending Money (How much do they like to spend on you?)
To be fair, he doesn't really have much money. None of you do.
But he's pretty insistent on paying for both of you if you go out together, even if that's all he can do right now.
He wants to buy things for you, and if the crew ever strikes it big, he plans on making up for it.
T — Trust (Are they trusting of you? Jealous?)
Zoro has a lot of trust issues in general, but he's pretty trusting of you.
You haven't given him any reason not to trust you.
He still hasn't told you everything about his past, but he's getting around to it.
U — Underwear (What kind do they wear, and what kind do they like on you?)
He's not very particular about his own underwear.
Definitely comfort and maneuverability over looks, but if you have a preference he's fine with it, as long as it's not thongs or something.
Don't even ask, he's not.
But he loves seeing you in a thong. The skimpier the better.
If he can reach under your skirt and feel your bare ass, he's going to be absolutely ferral for you in an instant.
V — Vulnerable (How vulnerable are they with you? Is it easy for them to open up to you?)
He's more vulnerable with you than he is with anyone else.
Still doesn't exactly wear his heart on his sleeve, but he's trying.
Used to handling everything himself so it's a steep learning curve.
Tries to voice things that bother him, even if it comes out a little forced and awkward, but he makes the effort, and you're proud of him for it.
W — Wine and Dine (Do they prefer meals at home or going out with you? Who does more of the cooking?)
A cook Zoro definitely is not.
He'd rather take you out and not have to deal with Sanji, but money is an object.
He loves watching you cook. He might even offer to help, but you probably shouldn't let him.
He could burn a pot of boiling water.
X — X-Rated (How good are they in bed? What do they like?)
Very passionate, and a little playful.
It drives him crazy when you tease him.
Bend over in front of him in a skirt and he's going to be dragging you off somewhere private in seconds.
Pushing you up against a wall and pushing your skirt up your hips.
Kissing you hard enough to bruise and pulling you against him by your ass so you can feel him get hard.
Shivering, kissing and growling against your neck when you rub him through his pants.
"God, you're such a little fucking tease..."
And he absolutely loves it.
Not wasting any time in pulling your shirt and your bra off so he can feel every inch of you.
Teasing your nipples with his thumb while he grips your ass harder to grind against you.
Wrestling out of his shirt when you get on your knees in front of him.
Tangling his hands in his hair and groaning when you wrap your lips around his cock.
Losing control fast and holding your head still to fuck your mouth until you're gagging on him.
Letting you go when you dig your fingers into his hips and pulling you back up by your hair, picking you up by your ass and kissing down the column of his throat while he catches his breath.
Laying you down on the nearest surface and kissing down your body.
Trying to get himself back under control so he doesn't cum within two minutes.
Pulling your skirt down and flinging it away, before giving you a grin and tugging your panties down with his teeth.
Pulling your thighs up over his shoulders and tugging you to him by your hips, immediately pushing two fingers inside you and sucking your clit.
Rolling his tongue in slow, firm circles, keeping his pace steady while you grip at his hair and arch your back and moan.
Giving a little purr/growl when you come, gripping your hips.
Absolutely craving you now, shifting up to lean over you, rubbing your thighs and thrusting into you before your orgasm is even over.
Going hard and heavy right from the first stroke.
Gripping at your thigh and your hair and groaning into your neck while you cling to him.
Reaching between you to rub your clit, bringing you right back to the edge in minutes.
"Come on, baby. Come for me again. Come on my cock."
Watching your eyes roll back and swearing under his breath when he feels your walls tighten around him.
Losing it immediately when you cry out and arch your back under him.
Pulling out and tugging on you by your arm until you lean down and wrap your lips around him again.
Pulling your head forward and groaning, holding you in place by your hair while you suck the cum out of him.
Collapsing into bed with you and pulling you onto his chest, kissing your neck and your forehead, telling you how good you are while you both catch your breath.
Y — Yearning (How long will they pursue the person they're interested in before losing interest?)
Not very long, honestly.
He'll shoot his shot a couple times, but if you're not interested he's not going to press it.
He respects your boundaries completely, and he doesn't abide the whole hard-to-get game.
If you decide you're interested after that, you're going to have to approach him.
Z — Zen (What do they do to wind down and relax? Do they prefer to do it alone or with you?)
As much as he trains, he needs a lot of downtime.
And he definitely wants you there for it.
Holding onto you like you're his teddy bear, having a beer or two with you, nuzzling into your hair.
He never really considered the possibility that he'd be as close to someone as he is to you, and doesn't want to waste any time being away from you.
He's still pretty reclusive, but you're the one exception to that rule.

I love the ASL brothers and really want them to be raised by Shanks.
I have an idea but I have to put a few events out of order.
So let’s get into it
We start fairly close to cannon with Shanks’ time on Foosha. He meets Luffy and he loves this kid. It’s the reason they keep coming back to the island in the first place.
Now this is where we are going to start rearranging somethings. Because Shanks and Higuma confrontation happens before Shanks has found the Gomu Gomu no Mi. Mean Luffy doesn’t eat the devil fruit (yet) Luffy gets mad at Shanks for not defending himself against the mountain bandit and runs off. Shanks follows him wanting to explain to the boy why. (Some fights you win by not fighting at all)
It’s here that he learns a hard truth about Luffy. Because Luffy runs home. Where he lives alone in a little shack. At first Shanks in confused, he thought Luffy lived with Makino. But Luffy can’t stay with her full time. She’s not his guardian and doesn’t have the money to care for him. She help him and cares for him when she can but most of the time Luffy is alone. The exception is when his grandfather is in town and is training him by: throwing him down ravines, dropping him in the middle of the jungle, tying him to balloons.
Shanks is horrified. Growing up on the Oro Jackson wasn’t easy. He saw a lot of horrible things when he was too young to process them. But he never doubted he was loved. And here Luffy is, a boy he’s come to love as his own sobbing because “nothing is worse than being alone.”
But Luffy looks at him with determination and says “that why I’m going to be king of the pirates one day because my Namaka will never leave me.” And Shanks knows two things. One Luffy is going to be the king of the pirates. There is not a doubt in his mind that Luffy is the person his captain was waiting for. Luffy is going to change the world when the boy sets out on his own. The second thing is that he won’t leave this little boy, who is walking sunshine, feel unloved or unwanted ever again.
Shanks hugs Luffy close and tells him he knows that Luffy is going to become the king of the pirates but before he can do that he needs so experience on the seas. How does the little anchor feel about join his crew? Luffy is ecstatic! He’s wanted this for so long and now Shanks is letting him on his crew.
But Shanks knows there is still one thing he needs to get before he can take Luffy with him. After all he came to the East Blue in search for one thing, the Gomu Gomu no Mi. He has to find that first. Once he has it he can head back to the New World. If he takes Luffy with him now then they could easily be track down in the East Blue by Luffy’s grandfather.
So he takes his hat off and places it on Luffy’s head telling him, “this hat is my treasure. There is one thing I need to find here in the East Blue before we can set sail for the Grandline. Can you watch over my hat while I find it? It shouldn’t take me more than five months. Then I’ll come back for you and we will set sail to the grandline together.”
Luffy looks up at him with such hopeful eyes “you promise?”
“Of course! I can’t go back to the Grandline without my hat. I’ll just have to bring along the little anchor wearing it.” Shanks tries for joking but ends up sounding way more fond and sentimental.
He cares Luffy back to Makino’s bar, watching as his boy falls asleep in his arms. Once there he explains their new situation to the crew. He then turns to Makino and as he closes the tab for the crew he also gives her more then enough money to take care of her AND Luffy for the next five months. Asking her to watch over his boy for him until he returns. Makino is torn because on one hand should she really be letting Luffy travel with these pirates? But at the same time she’s never seen the little boy be as happy as he is when he’s with Shanks and the crew. So she agrees.
In the morning Shanks leaves after explaining to Luffy he will be staying with Makino until his return.
Well not all plans go according to plan. Especially when Garp returns to see his grandson wearing Roger/Shanks hat and talking about sailing with Shanks’ crew.
That’s a big no for Garp. So he takes Luffy away from Makino and delivers him to Dadan. Strapping a sea stone cuff to his wrist (trying to dampen the boys haki signature so Shanks can’t find him) (yes I know cannon doesn’t full support this but it also doesn’t full disprove it so we’re playing fast and lose today)
This is where he meets Ace and Sabo.
It goes much like it does in cannon. With the two older boys not liking Luffy very much until after Porchemy kidnappes Luffy and beats him. The beating is far more brutal this time around as Luffy has not consumed his devil fruit yet.
The three boys become sworn brothers over shake. And start to bond. Until a few months later when Shanks returns to the island.
He is worried when he can’t feel Luffy while approaching the island. His panic growing as they get closer and closer and there is no sight of their anchor on the dock there to greet them. Shanks hurries to Makino’s bar only to be met by her sad eyes and tearful explanations. She hasn’t seen Luffy for months since Garp took him from her. She’s not even sure if he’s on the island or not at this point.
Shanks and the crew spread out. They’re going to search the whole island. If Luffy is here then they will find him. Shanks heads up the mountain, looking for his boy, he’s stretched out his observation Haki as far as it can go. He notices something strange. The signatures of two young boys but it seems as though they are making room for a third. A third that Shanks can’t sense.
Shanks is heading that way, hoping it’s Luffy. Hoping he’s not crazy. As he’s getting closer he can sense more signatures surrounding the young boys. And whether or not Luffy is with them it would seems these boys are in over their heads. He arrives right as the bluejam pirates are beating Luffy and Ace, while Sabo is dangling in Bluejam’s grasp. To say he is not a happy camper is an understatement.
Shanks moves fast get in between Luffy and Ace and their attackers. The three of them are surrounded but it doesn’t matter much to Shanks, everyone here is far weaker than he is.
The pirates are confused and Outlook III is telling this obviously homeless man to move along as he has no business here. Shanks ignores them and turns to Luffy. “Anchor what’s happening.” “They’re trying to take Sabo from us.”
Shanks doesn’t know who Sabo is or why these full grown adults are beating up his kid and his friends but frankly he doesn’t care. They were dead the moment he saw them hit Luffy. But to hear his son, who has extreme separation problems, crying because adults were taking away his friend. He’s going to drag this out a bit.
A quick blast of conquers haki has all the pirates and the sniveling noble down for the count. He’ll send some crew members out here to have some fun with them later, when three small children aren’t watching the pain he’s willing to put them through for touching his boy.
Sabo’s been dropped to the ground and Ace and Luffy have run to greet him. Luffy’s about squeezing the life out of the poor boy, but Ace stops and puts himself between the stranger and his brothers. Nothing is hurting his brothers, not even this weirdly powerful man.
But Shanks just smiles at him as Ace starts to grandstand. Asking the stranger who he was? What he was doing here? Questions and accusations flying from the angry boy’s mouth. But Shanks just laughs and looks over Ace’s shoulder and asked. “Come on Anchor don’t I get a hug?”
Ace is confused until Luffy rushes past him and throws himself at the stranger. Shanks just laughs as he catches the little boy and holds him tight before pulling back to look him over. He quickly spots the sea stone cuff and asks Luffy about it. Only to learn that his grandfather was behind the gift. A gift Shanks will be removing as quickly and safely as possible. Setting the boy down and drawling his sword.
The whole time Ace and Sabo are trying to figure out who this strange adult is. At least they were until he put Luffy down and drew his sword telling Luffy to hold his arm out and keep it still. The little dumby even does as he asks. The two brothers scream and rush forward to stop this stranger from cutting off their idiot little brothers arm, but they don’t make it in time.
Meanwhile Shanks, unaware or uncaring of the panic he is causing in the other boys, taps his blade against Luffy’s cuff cutting the thing off his wrist. Luffy giggles and thanks him just in time for Ace and Sabo to make it to him and inspect his wrist for damages, there are none. But Ace and Sabo are not impressed with this stranger.
Shanks just laughs and starts leading the boys back to the Red force. They’re hurt and he wants Hango to look after them as soon as possible. Ace doesn’t want to go. But there’s a promise of a doctor for his brothers. And Luffy is going whether Ace’s wants him to or not. So they head down.
This is the start of my idea. The next part is Ace and his extreme dislike of Shanks
He’s going to take Luffy way. (He learns about their promise and is furious that this man is going to take one of his brothers)
Luffy eats the Gomu Gomu no Mi and loses his ability to swim and Ace blames Shanks
That mountain bandit that shanks made mad the last time he was here is back and wants revenge. Mainly Luffy shaped revenge.

I feel like Roger loved both Buggy and Shanks equally, it’s just that he REALLY saw himself in Shanks and less so in Buggy, which made Buggy feel like the less loved child, just because he didn’t quite have the same “Oh wow we are just immediately on the same wavelength” like these two
If you asked Roger though he would have spoken about both of them with equal pride. He may see himself in Shanks but Buggy is … Buggy is just his own entire thing and sometimes Roger is kind of stupefied at this young pirate just putting so much into showmanship and being FLASHY and by god this is a greedy little shit but that just means he is just always going after something.And once he gets it he’s gonna show it off in the flashiest way possible that’s just so infectiously joyful to witness. Also- bombs?! Who taught him that?! Rayleigh did you teach him that? He didn’t teach him that! How’d that boy get so crafty! Hey guys check it out Buggy made a BOMB! Haha, hey may never know quite what’s going on with this brat but what a lad! His little firecracker…
Buggy wasn’t unloved but he was a massive causality of Shanks “chosen one” status (another one of these is Shanks himself imo but that’s getting into theory corner), because in his eyes that didn’t leave him to be anything else.
Yessss I do agree that Roger didn't really have a favourite, just different approaches to the kids. If there was any favouritism it would be unintentional, like I've said before. Because I really don't think Roger was that type of man. He loved those kids, they were basically like his sons.
I also agree that he saw himself in Shanks. And he saw something completely different in Buggy. Not just in the way that he was different from himself and Shanks, but he was different from everyone. Roger has never met someone like Buggy before and that fascinated him. This little kid was so... flashy, as he put in his own terms. And he was a go-getter. Roger was convinced that kid had the potential to flip the world upside down if it would get him what he wanted. And there's something so refreshing about that kind of unending determination. The only thing that stood in the way of that was his inferiority complex. And oh did Roger try to make it better. He tried his best to treat him and Shanks equally. Always told them both they could do anything they put their mind to, and that he loved and cared for them deeply. But it just didn't seem to penetrate through Buggy's thick skull. Him giving his hat to Shanks did NOT help. I think that small action was truly the catalyst for the "chosen one" complex you talked about. I mean the effects of it are still very much present, with Luffy and all...
I don't think Buggy was really a casualty in Shanks and his "chosen one" status (at least not as big of a casualty as Shanks himself) because he didn't let himself get stuck because of it, like Shanks did. He knew he couldn't reach his full potential in his friend's shadow, so he left. He started a new life because he refused to be stagnant. And he had a goal, a dream, that did not match what Shanks wanted. So of course he left, because Buggy always goes after what he wants. He chose to go forward, but Shanks stayed there. He could not move forward. He was destined to be forever that little boy on Oro Jackson, the pirate king's chosen one, and that teen Buggy left in Loguetown. (Taylor Swift - Right where you left me, literally)
On a lighter note... those damn bombs!!! Who taught him???? Literally no one. I'm convinced he just threw shit together. And honestly, Buggy is very smart. He figured how things work very quickly at a young age, and he was always good with his hands. It's another thing Roger always felt proud about him. "His little firecracker..." Anon shut up right now I will cry 😭😭 that's so cute
Thank you for this!! Sorry for replying late, I knew I was gonna write something long so I wanted to do it when I had the time

Very Random Akatsuki Headcanons
Sasori would 100% have a garden, and most of the stuff he grows would be illegal or highly toxic. He would ask Zetsu for tips a lot and force Deidara to help him weed it even though Deidara will LOUDLY complain about it the whole time. Sasori will gently sing to/ talk to his plants when he thinks no one is looking.
Kisame the type to nag others about how important it is to drink water and stay hydrated but. He has never fully finished one single bottle of water. Any place they are, you can immediately tell that Kisame’s been there because every surface area will have plastic water bottles sitting on it with various levels of water in them.
Hidan has many, many bad teeth, mostly in the back of his mouth. Missing, chipped, cavities or straight rotting. Always in some level of pain but never seeks out help because you know, Lord Jashin encourages personal suffering. Was finally tentacle-held to a chair by Kakuzu and forced to let Sasori do what repair work he could after the others got tired of hearing him curse and grumble all night over his mouth pain. Absolutely loves his new smile afterwards but never admits it.
Every single member of the Akatsuki has at some point had a crush on Konan. Including Zetsu. But it went away once each member started seeing her as a sister or mother figure. The only one it didn’t go away for is Nagato, but he’d never admit his true feelings because he values their friendship and working relationship too much.
Itachi likes to collect rocks. He’s an amateur geologist and enjoys finding different types of stones when he’s out on missions. The others learn this about him and will sometimes take the time after missions or when traveling to pick up “pretty” rocks to bring back to him.
Deidara has a lot of anxiety and restlessness, and keeping himself busy alleviates that. He prefers doing things with his hands which is why he’s always making little sculptures with his clay. If no clay is available he’ll tap or drum his fingers on things or fiddle with his hair. The faster his fingers move it means the more anxious he feels. Sasori would get annoyed by this behavior so he created for Dei what would essentially be a ninja world version of a fidget-spinner. Deidara loved it and he makes sure to pack it with him whenever he leaves on missions.
Nagato’s fingers are often bloody because he’s a nail-biter to the extreme. He’ll chomp those things down right to the quick of the finger. The others will “gift” him gloves to try and prevent this from happening, and it’ll work for while, but sooner or later he’s right back at it again.
Deidara once gained ten pounds in two months because Tobi kept convincing him to stop at sweets cafes while they were out traveling, and then to have seconds and thirds of whatever they were eating.
Kakuzu figured out that Hidan didn’t know how to read when Hidan would avoid looking at the map on missions and kept giving Kakuzu wrong information about sign posts along roads. After a lot of convincing that he wasn’t “making fun of him”, Kakuzu finally got Hidan to let him teach him basic reading and math skills over the course of a year.
When Orochimaru was a part of the Akatsuki, one day he managed to get Konan alone and was hitting on her in a very creepy Jiraiya-esque way. Turns out that he was merely trying to get her to trust him so that, when he ultimately left the Akatsuki, he would be able to convince her to follow so he could study her body and paper-jutsu. Having had no close experiences with women other than Tsunade, who always responded favorably to flirtatious behavior, he’d assumed that this was how ALL women would react. If Itachi hadn’t driven Oro away, Konan would have blindsided and killed him first.
Nagato (in a Pein body) gave the sex talk to Deidara, Hidan and Itachi. All three of them hadn’t the slightest clue about how anything worked in that regard. Sasori gave him diagrams out of his medical books to aid in his talk. Nagato kept having to add on to his talk because of the questions. “What if you’re a guy who likes guys? How does that work?” “What if you don’t like anyone like that, or you don’t want to ever do those kind of things; is that okay?”
In strong sunlight:
Konan burns bright red.
Itachi and Hidan brown.
Zetsu withers.
Nagato dehydrates within two minutes. As does Kisame.
Deidara sprouts freckles.
Sasori smells like a fire.
Obito and his Hashirama cell DNA photosynthesize like a damn tree.
Kakuzu also turns into a freckle-factory but because his skin is already so dark, it’s unnoticeable.
Sasori has fairly moderate misophonia and especially can’t stand the sound of people chewing. It was one of his primary reasons for turning his body into a puppet; so he no longer had to endure the sound of himself eating. He thought he’d died and gone to hell when he found out that Deidara chews food with all three mouths.
Deidara likes Tobi to read to him at night. It gives him a very comfortable sleepy feeling. The more Deidara nods off the more Tobi lets his voice become more natural/Obito. This is pleasant to Obito because doing the “Tobi voice” all day puts a huge strain on his throat, so it’s nice to be able to break character once in a while and speak normally.
Hidan is extremely sensitive to the cold and will do anything to avoid having to travel or do missions in the winter.
Konan has kept a diary of her life ever since she was a child. She picked up the habit of writing during the period when Jiraiya was staying with/watching over her, Nagato and Yahiko.
Deidara developed a hell of a crush on Kakashi after “meeting” and getting his arms blown off by him and the Konoha nin. He’d gush about Kakashi for days afterward … to Tobi. Tobi who had to grit his teeth and not start screaming over how Kakashi unintentionally attracted everyone that Obito was ever interested in.
Best Smelling to Worst Smelling:
Konan
Tobi/Obito
Deidara
Kakuzu
Kisame
Zetsu
Itachi (would be higher but often smells like strong, bitter medicine and night-sweats)
Nagato (his actual body, not a Pein body)
Hidan and Sasori tie for worst because both smell like blood and corpses
Obito never killed his grandmother during the Uchiha massacre. He used a very powerful jutsu to erase her memory and then relocate her to a place in a village far away that took care of the elderly. He pays the facility with the money he earns/steals during missions, and every so often he’ll go and visit her at night, when she’s alone in her room. She doesn’t know who he is and just thinks that he’s a nice young man that’s there because he’s visiting somebody else.
Kisame loves to bake. It started because he was worried over Itachi being so thin and never seeming to want to eat anything other than desserts. So Kisame taught himself how to make cakes and pies and cookies, etc. Over time it became a zen-like activity to him that helps him relax and clear his head when he’s stressed out.
Kakuzu is as vain over his hair as Deidara is over his own. At least once a week they’ll get together and give each other trims and deep conditioning treatments. Sometimes Itachi will join if he feels up to it. Hidan mocks them for this but is secretly trying to grow his hair longer so that he can join them.

      SAY DON'T GO (YOUNG BUGGY X READER)
Tumblr media
A/N: This is part of this series, which requests are open for! These fics are all one-shots, so they can be read separately. Also, I highly recommend listening to the song linked in the title while you read. (Especially with this one. It really, really fits it. Maybe even read the lyrics. It's really Buggy's POV in this fic.)
The first nights alone on the Oro Jackson were quiet.
You weren't alone, not really. You had Buggy and Shanks with you, after all, but it was strange hearing the place you grew up be silent for the very first time. The soft snores of your friends were nothing compared to the riotous laughter you had fallen asleep to every night for the past decade.
You were all orphans now.
"Shanks," you whispered, tapping him on the arm. You didn't dare wake up Buggy.
"Hm?" he hummed sleepily.
"Can't sleep."
"Me neither," he said, despite the fact that he was very obviously asleep mere moments ago.
Things felt different. Different than days before. You didn't feel like the woman who had been abandoned by - then reconciled with - Dracule Mihawk, or the woman who had stood and witnessed Roger's execution only one day earlier. You felt like a girl again, now that it was just you and Shanks and Buggy. Just the three of you, against the world, a world that did not seem quite so dim and empty as it had been these past few months.
And so you and Shanks (and Buggy, once he woke up to the commotion) "can't sleep"-ed together, laughing and talking and acting like everything would be fine, like you were a proper crew, like you were all you needed, like you and Shanks had never shared that poisoned kiss.
...
The mornings after that were not quite as bright.
It turned out that if you wanted to be a pirate crew, a real pirate crew, you needed some things. Other crew mates - those would come later, Shanks reasoned - and supplies, plenty of them. So you docked the ship at a nearby port, far from Marine influence, and began shopping.
"You know, I've been thinking," said Shanks, taking a bite out of an apple, "Maybe we should change our flag - our Jolly Roger?"
"Roger's flag? No way."
"C'mon, think about it. It's our ship now."
"Who would we even change it to? I mean, I wouldn't mind letting you be captain - in name only - but Buggy won't like it."
"Buggy will get used to it."
"What, and he'll be first mate? Who am I, then?"
"I don't know, I'm sure we'll come up with something-"
You smacked his arm.
"You're such a jerk."
"Such a jerk, 'Captain.'"
...
Buggy had dreamt of you last night.
How things were different now, maybe, for the first time. How maybe things could really change.
Mihawk had abandoned you (bummer) and you and Shanks seemed to have a strange distance between you since the wedding that Buggy couldn't understand. You would need someone, he was sure of it, and he would be there.
"Hey, guys," Buggy called out, carrying a bag of groceries in one hand and climbing aboard the Oro Jackson. A single daisy was concealed in his pocket. "Got everything?"
"Yeah, um," you said, and you couldn't look at Buggy.
"...What? What's going on?"
You looked up at Shanks, pleadingly.
"Don't make me say it."
"He'll take it better from you," said Shanks, and Buggy detected a hint of a smirk on his face. Weariness, too.
"Shanks wants to be captain," you mumbled, staring at the deck.
Buggy laughed.
"Kidding, right? You're... kidding." He saw the look on your face. "You're not kidding. Well, you told him, no, right? You told him no."
"She agreed to it," Shanks said. "She didn't mind. But she wasn't sure how you would take it."
"Why would you agree to that?" Buggy shouted, louder than he meant to, and you flinched. "Look at me. Why would you-"
"I'm sorry," you whispered, a tear rolling down your cheek. "I thought it was the right thing."
"Why isn't it me, huh? Why not me? What's the difference? There's nothing Shanks has done that I couldn't do."
"I trust him," you confessed. "I trust him to lead-"
"Yeah? Why not me?"
"Buggy-"
"Answer the question," Buggy snapped. "Why not me?"
"That's enough," said Shanks. "That's enough."
Shanks, he noticed, had put his arm around your shoulders protectively - as if you needed to be protected. As if you needed to be protected, from him.
"I'm leaving," Buggy said, and turned to grab his things.
He really meant it, too - he meant it, as he went downstairs and collected his clothes and weapons and souvenirs of the life he'd been living for the past twenty years. He almost grabbed a sweater of his you often liked to borrow, but left it.
He'd been so stupid to believe that anything could change. That he'd finally be like Shanks, an equal. He would never be as good as Shanks. He would always be second in your heart to him - third, depending on what your opinion of Mihawk was at the time.
Somehow, he'd always known.
It didn't matter if this crew, this boat, was the best chance he had at getting the One Piece. He would get it anyway, and when he did, he was going to have a good laugh at the look on you and Shanks' faces. But then again, you probably didn't care if you died peasants, as long as you had each other, and you'd probably be thrilled to be rid of him-
"...Buggy?"
He heard a creak and turned to see you holding the sweater.
"You forgot something," you said quietly, holding it out to him. Buggy shook his head.
"It's worn out. It's all... stretched, and you got stains on it, and there's too many holes. It's beyond repair."
All lies. You were particularly careful with this sweater, because it wasn't just your favorite - you knew it was Buggy's favorite, too.
You frowned, staring down at it and searching for a tear.
"You can throw it out, for all I care," and Buggy slammed the lid of his suitcase down.
"It's really warm," you said, "...And I don't want to."
You pulled it over your head, sleeves hanging far past where your arms could stretch. Buggy watched you, unable to look away.
He had forgotten how cute you could be when you weren't stabbing him in the back.
"Why'd you come down?" he asked, fixing a resentful expression on his face. "Figured you'd be celebrating with Shanks right now."
"I'm not gonna let you leave, Bug. You really are crazy if you thought I would."
"What's the point in me staying? You as good as said it back there, there's nothing I do that Shanks doesn't do better-"
"And how do you think I feel?" you snapped. "You think it felt good, watching him be stronger my whole life? Knowing that no matter what I did, Roger was never gonna respect me more than him? Did you even think about the fact that when I let Shanks be captain, I took it away from myself, too?"
Truthfully, Buggy had never thought to consider it.
"Do you know why I put up with it?"
"Tell me."
"Because he goddamn deserves it," you stated. "He deserves every bit of respect he gets. He's nearly the best swordsman because he trained to be, he's a fighter because he fought to be, and he's never once faltered when I needed him. He's a leader, and that's not who we are. So you can walk away from me and him and the One Piece, and be a big baby, but there's a reason why I chose him over myself. Do you not think I'm capable, Buggy? Do you not think I'm good enough?"
"You're good enough."
"I know I am. But you didn't see me throwing a fit on the deck. Making him captain doesn't mean that I think Shanks is better than you, because I don't think he's better than me, either. We all have jobs."
"Yeah? What's yours?"
"Doctor," you said. "And sniper, and cook, for now."
"And what about me?" Buggy asked, leaning against the wall and fixing his gaze on you. "If I stayed, what would you have me do?"
"I'd let you be first mate. And shipwright. And blacksmith. You're talented with making things."
"I didn't think you'd noticed."
"Of course I have," you said. "I'm wearing something you made right now."
It's true, you were. Buggy had gotten into knitting a long time ago, during lazy days on the Oro Jackson in his youth, and had decided to make a sweater for you after seeing how cold you got. He'd lost his nerve in the middle of the project and begun making it in his size instead of yours after fearing you wouldn't want it, but it ended up in your hands anyway.
You approached Buggy, tentatively, the long sleeves of the sweater draping off your wrists. He eyed you as you stared up at him, pleadingly, and then threw your arms around him as if you trap him, and could make him stay there forever.
"Please stay," you whispered, voice muffled by his shoulder.
Buggy smirked, holding you.
"I didn't think you would beg, doll."
"...Only for you."
Maybe he would stay a little longer.

the love from a father aka one piece men and how they handle their kids
warnings: gn reader; mentions/allusions of death in roger and whitebeards
Tumblr media
shanks tries but he travels a lot. he’s got a lot of people out there who need him. he doesn’t think kids belong on the sea. that’s why he turned down luffy and even uta’s cries to let them go with him and the crew. he has a hard time coming to terms with the fact that he doesn’t know when he’ll see them next. but you can bet your bottom dollar that the second you turn 17 he’s letting you hop on board red force and set sail. he loves traveling with you but god help anyone he dares to even look at his baby in the wrong way. ships are going down.
roger on the other hand could never say no to his kid asking to hop on board. he’s already got shanks and buggy, and eventually oden’s clan as well, so why can’t his kid join? he can’t wait to show you the world. he wants you to know the world like he does. he’ll hoist you over his shoulders and run around the oro jackson to make sure you’re more than in tune with everything on the ship. always makes sure you’re safe after a run in with any other crew. when the time comes, he leaves you with shanks and buggy while they finished up the last voyage. after the crew disbanded, he left you in the care of rayleigh. having one final request that you find the one piece with ace.
rayleigh is blunt to say the least. don’t get him wrong! he loved his kid more than anything in the world, but he’s still rayleigh. he made sure you knew how to fend for yourself from a young age, sparring you up again shanks and buggy whenever he could. doesn’t know how to handle it when you get hurt. just kinda starts laughing before picking you up and handing you over to crocus to have him patch you up. type of dad to nudge his flask at you and raise an eyebrow. after he retires he makes sure to keep up with his kid. you’ve probably gone off to form your own crew or join one but the humble boat coater ray will still call every now and again.
whitebeard adores his kid. there’s no doubt about it in anyone’s mind. like rayleigh he makes sure you’re able to fight from a young age. instead of putting you against other crew members he just shows you himself. all the commanders are ready to kill for you. marco definitely takes over on “fatherly” duties when roger needs a break but as you get older he becomes more of an older brother. he was an orphan so he wants to make sure his kid knows that there is no blank space when it comes to loving them. he’s said before that a family is the greatest treasure one can have and he knows thag couldn’t be more true.

I have a lot of fic ideas. Can’t decide what I want to do. If you decide to read any of this lol, please let me know what looks good.
First: Alternate universe - Canon Divergence Where Crocodile, Mihawk, and Doflamingo also are raised on the the Oro Jackson and this would be around the time Buggy and Shanks were 6 or 7. Setting would be mainly Marineford, during Timeskip, and after Timeskip though. Showing differences to how they acted in canon. Also they’d treat Buggy far better. Buggy would be transgender and with the help of Ivankov would finally have her body. The trio plus Shanks wouls be happy for buggy but it’s harder to control their feelings about the clown.
Second: Alternate Universe - Modern Setting with Powers Buggy is a stripper and escort(people pay for his time not sex) on off days. He enjoys his work, basking in the attention and exhilaration. So do his customers, specifically a few(Shanks, Croc, Mihawk, and Doffy). Who would like to have more and go about getting it in different ways, consensually of course.
Third: Crocodile and Mihawk start treating Buggy better then end up courting him together. It’s fragile but wonderful. Shanks is trying to rekindle their romance: After finally being invited to Karai Bari(I guess I forgot the right name lol) by Buggy he’s unsettled to learn that the other two have a head start. He invites Rayleigh to the island in the guise of a family reunion. Hijinks ensue that end up making Croc and Mihawk look bad, which usually doesn’t bother them but it’s their boyfriend’s dad whose the legendary Dark King no less. So yeah, not good.
Fourth: Buggy has several friends with benefits(Shanks, Croc, Mihawk, Doffy, and Marco) Who never said it was but Buggy assumed so then ran with it. Each of them finds out the clown has other bed partners and who they are which… they don’t take well(No physical or sexual abuse). At a pirate retreat their acquaintances take advantage of the situation and use Buggy to rile them up with no release. So as to enact revenge against them for various petty reasons.
edited the first one because the way I described the guys reaction to Buggy’s transitioned body could come across wrong. To be clear, there is no transphobia. It’s essentially “you were already amazing and now even more so, my little heart can’t take it.”

Buggy x Shanks x Mihawk prompt: All three of these guys' paths end up crossing somehow and Buggy's still deeply hurt by Shanks not wanting to find the One Piece with him when they were growing up together. He angrily berates Shanks for breaking his heart, at which point Mihawk steps in and actually calms Buggy down by both admitting Shanks broke his heart too when he sacrificed his sword arm and could no longer be his one true rival. He tells Buggy that it's just what Shanks does, his most devastating move. Mihawk and Buggy both give Shanks looks of reproach before walking away together, leaving Shanks devastated and pining for both the Star Clown and the Strongest Swordsman. How is he every gonna gain back both their hearts?
The pain this one will bring This is better formatted on ao3
Mihawk wanted one day of privacy with Buggy. They had been out doing something that left the mind that the second he had caught wind the the Red Haired Pirates where here. He had tried to guide the clown back to the ship. Trying to blend them into the crowd. All that was stooped the moment he heard that stupid voice call out to the Clown.
The swordsman felt the clown stop beside him. He glanced over seeing how he was staring at something. Or well someone.
"You don't have to acknowledge him." The yellow eyed man said threw deaf years it seemed. Mihawk had tried to take Buggy's hand to which he simply popped off as the clown went straight to the other pirate captain.
"Oh hey
"Oh hey he says." Buggy rolled his eyes. "What are you doing here? This is our territory you are trespassing leave now."
"Come on Buggy. Just getting supplies' maybe I can stay the night." Shanks tried to take the clowns hand.
The clown gave and over exaggerated annoyed groan pulling away.
"You have a lot of nerve." He was about to go straight to the stupid Yanko's face and punch him when he felt himself being grabbed by the waist.
"Don't waste your time clown. I'm sure there more reckless decisions Red Hair can make elsewhere anyways." All the words directed to the clown was soft. The last bit punctured with a glare towards the unwanted pirate.
The swordsman shot a warning glare to the redhead as he turned said person to face him. Mihawk was sure the only one who noticed the hurt that fell on Shanks face as the wight of it hit him. See how in love the people he held so close to his own heart. The ones he knew he needed most. So in love and so hurt from his actions.
The clown and swordsman had many spouts of talking about how hurt he had been by the other. Stories they had shared. Feelings that had tied them together like string.
Mihawk had shared the night's he had spent after long fights. How he felt when he had figured out Shanks had lost his arm. Something he hadn't got until he met Luffy. It still didn't erase the hurt. He may have claimed it was for the lack of being able to fight and that is what he had told his clown too. But it was the lack of self preservation. The lack of keeping himself safe so he could be back.
Buggy had shared about his time with Shanks on the Oro Jackson. How he felt about Shanks. What they did together. And how he was just left so carelessly. It was never about the devil fruit. Not truly when he sat and thought to long.
The swordsman watched the Yanko walk away. He could tell that would not be the end they would hear of Shanks before the day ended.
~~~ That interaction had left them down one clown. Much to Mihawks annoyance. He had decided to let the clown be for a hour while he made sure everyone knew not to bother him for the rest of the day. Before getting his and Buggy's dinner going over to where he had left the blue haired clown.
Buggy hadn't move sitting on his one of the couches in the tents the had everywhere. He was sat in a way that Mihawk could sit behind him staring off into space.
"I brought food you should at least eat some." Mihawk said setting the food down on a table in front of him before sitting behind the clown. Gently placed himself behind the clown gently moving him into his lap. He gently kissed the back of his head before undoing the pigtails his love had put his hair in. gently running her hand threw his hair.
"Do you want to talk about it?" The swordsman asked. That earned him a headshake. "Alright please eat though."
The clown blinked as if he hadn't have noticed the food but grabbed the plate starting to eat it and even feeding Mihawk some. Which seemed the only option as the yellow eyed man was not letting go.
He had gently braided the clowns hair so it wouldn't be a bother of things that he would have to do that night.
It was comfortable silence until a very obvious fake bouquet of flowers where thrown into the tent. They looked very badly hand crafted. Black and blue. Both the shades of their hair.
The two had decided to ignore the flowers. Knowing the second they go over they'd be sucked by in.
"You're not mad at him just because I am are you?" Buggy's voice was way to soft.
"Defiantly not. I doubt it is anymore than physical."
Another set of flowers thrown.
There was a pause but Buggy had decided to go get them.. Placing one of them on his lap.
"Couldn't even buy the real thing." Mihawk rolled his eyes.
"They make me sneeze." Buggy said as he noticed that there was writing on the flowers. Little memories and things he liked about each of the. Ones about Mihawk on the black one and one for him on the blues. All in the petals
"Look at them." The blue haired male put the flowers his partners arms. He knew he couldn't help the fond smile that was on his face.
The raven haired male looked up at him after reading the flowers on his own. This was so much effort. For something he could tell Shanks knew might not even work.
"Hm why don't you go let him in then?"
The clown nodded going out to do so. It might still be a long path. But they'd be okay. All three of them.
Tumblr crossed soul mates yessssssss you have the BEST opinions and dropping asks here is so much fun and really it's the highlight of my day.
Shanks trying to get flirting advice from the crew, specifically Roger, is both so in character and absolutely hilarious. Like. Dropping my own headcanon here, but I feel like Rouge was probably ALSO a badass of a woman, and so Roger's type is women who could destroy me. Shanks has the same taste, plus a little extra friends-to-lovers trope seasoning for extra Flavor. Crocus is just off to the side, either NO help or equally as bad. Rayleigh is certain he's going gray already bc of the Shenanigans.
Imagine for a moment that Shanks keeps Not Being Clear. He thinks he's being OBVIOUS, but Buggy, while Suspecting Smth, isn't gonna make it easy on him (she also is terrified to be misreading things and refuses to take that chance. She talks mad shit, but Shanks is her PERSON. Of course she loves him, of course he's her soulmate, her beloved, her bst friend, her comrade, of course of course of course. But she'd rather remain best friends and pining inside than risk losing him at all.).
It comes to a head when they have their Regularly Scheduled Whitebeard V Roger Fight.
((Insert a crack ship here but-)) Maybe, after the battle, during the cool down, this time around there's no Teach to set Buggy's instincts off. Maybe Marco, just a few years the cabin kids' senior, has Noticed Buggy. Maybe the Phoenix is preening and fighting weird, sudden instincts and is so absolutely FLUSTERED by it. Maybe Buggy is, in turn, flustered or flattered by the attention - maybe she even misconstrues it.
Marco is letting Buggy look over his books, is offering her his hand when boarding or stepping off a ship - either ship, mind you - is sharing his food, is shouldering others aside to give her something Shiny and Pretty, is attentive to if she shivers, if she sweats, offers her comfortable places to sit, is just.... in her orbit.
And Shanks does not like that, not one bit.
So he's in a Mood, as one would expect of a jealous teen boy, no matter his general disposition.
Others have noticed by now, the intense glaring matches between Marco and Shanks are shooting over an oblivious Buggy's head. She's just too excited by treasures, fabrics, textures and books to care much about the boys - until the evening.
Marco invites her to read together by the firelight, a blanket in one arm. She's tempted - he has a few books on constellations that she's debating lifting from their dusty shelves, and so few on the Oro Jackson enjoy reading the way she does.
But then a hand hooks decisively on her waist. Suddenly, Shanks is beside her, arm around her, holding her, pinning her, to his side and chest as he shoots what may generously be called a smile at the zoan devil fruit user.
"Buggy is capable of speaking for herself, Red-yoi."
"Oh, she is! Absolutely, I'll never cast doubt on that. She's spirited, alright. But ya know something, bird brain?" His eyes darken, smiled falling. "She's mine."
"Is she now?"
"If she wants to be - I won't force it. But watch your hands. Don't get so touchy with my Buggy."
"Stay in your lane, Shanks-yoi."
And suddenly the hand on her waist is gone. Suddenly Shanks is gone. Suddenly there's a brawl, right there, and Buggy is left gaping as her brain works on overdrive.
Half the assembled crews are drunk and cheering them on, a good chunk are asleep or off wandering, but Buggy is soon swept into the safe cocoon of Toki's arms, tucked to her side.
She is transfered to Roger, to Rayleigh, taken home and calmed down because the fragile, precarious structure she has assembled now has become full of unknowns. She's losing her mind over it, but more than that, she's fighting a desperate hope that she hates herself for having.
Shanks can do so much better than her, she tells herself.
The boy in question comes staggering in soon after - he was pissed at Marco, sure, but he noticed when she started panicking, when she began floating, when she was gone - and he came for her. He came as quickly as he could.
And he apologizes. "I shouldn't have called you mine."
Her chest feels like it's been stabbed.
He continues without hesitation. "You're your own person. You're too bright and smart and strong and awesome to just be some guy's girl. You're Buggy, and my feelings for you shouldn't ever take that away from you."
"What..."
"Mm?"
"What are you feelings for me?"
And they cry that night. They yell, and scream, and cry, and laugh, and when they fall asleep, it's tangled together in his hammock, her head resting on his chest and his grin buried in blue curls.
Marco and Shanks, both as adults, still have a semi-playful rivalry going on where they're down to throw hands at the drop of a hat, but it's all in good fun. They still sometimes argue over Buggy, but it's mostly to get her to blush, cackle or yell at them - usually, all three, though not in that order. Marco calls her "the one that got away" and makes the melodramatic "sometimes I can still hear her voice-" comments if only bc it makes people either laugh, groan, or get absolutely flabbergasted.
He was invited to their wedding.
AAA I'm so glad you're having fun sending the asks because I have so much fun reading your ideas <33 They're just SO good.
This is all PERFECT. Rouge was definitely a badass of a woman and somehow Roger managed to date her. Somehow. He doesn't know. He thinks he knows. He doesn't. And his advice isn't really that helpful for Shanks, ngl. He's just left without knowing exactly what to do to win Buggy's heart, but at least he can talk to Roger about it.
And,,, The Marco thing,,, The jealousy,, Especially with the rizz this man has, honestly, Shanks is righteously feeling intimidated. He's older than them and he's hotter. He looks more mature and calm and he reads and does those things Buggy enjoys. He makes her laugh, too, and Shanks is furious because he should be the one making her laugh!! It's not only that it makes him mad, but also, it makes him feel insecure about himself and his abilities. The thing is, Marco makes Buggy feel comfortable and appreciates her a lot, but he isn't Shanks. She thinks that Shanks doesn't feel the same and she won't confess either because she's scared of ruining their friendship. So Marco is the best option here, right? She should settle for him. But he isn't Shanks. And Shanks knows he doesn't have any right to claim Buggy or whatever, but this is pissing him off a lot. Both of them being stupid and feeling insecure about the other's feelings is so good,, And then they talk things out, of course, because Shanks shouldn't have said those things, but also Buggy did like it. Kind of. The fact that he was so protective of her. And that night they finally confess and kiss for the first time and it's just so good-- They laugh and whisper sweet nothings between kisses and it's the first time they do it but it feels so right. Buggy thinks about them being soulmates, but Shanks is the one to say it out loud.
And ever since, Shanks and Marco have had this rivalry and nobody knows exactly why because they never tell people about it. But it's just so hilarious to see them bicker for something that happened years ago. Every time Buggy remembers that, her self-esteem goes higher and higher, so at least she gets something good out of it.
So I just read a fanfiction where Sanji and Crocodile is kinda being friends(?) And I was thinking, what if Sanji was raised by Crocodile?👀 It just an idea though🤧
Or it was Shanks who safe Sanji and Zeff from that rock, gosh the ideas.
NGL I have a draft of Croc picking Sanji up from the Baratie when he's like 12(stowaway after a fight with Zeff and Mother Bon Clay cracks that fucking egg like not even a week in) which I'm still working on but I'll tag you when it's up!
As for shanks raising Sanji, both of Shanks'(I haven't watched Red forgive me) have punched Celestial Dragons and NGL Shanks kinda seems like a dead beat if he's not even willing to talk to Luffy in either Wano or Marineford so like 🤷🏻‍♂️, I can't imagine him raising a traumatized Sanji in the grand line is going to go well. Especially after losing an arm.
I feel like Shanks would never want a child on his boat after being on the Oro Jackson so like it would mostly fall onto Benn to raise the kid and Sanji would also lose his shit, regularly, on Yasopp and Shanks for not visiting their kids, any of them. Benn would probably let Sanji rant at them and make them feel bad because ya know, Sanji didn't have a loving and caring family but he sure as shit is glad he's on the boat with fucking kind as fuck pirates but also they need to step up and be parents to their kids.
In conclusion if you put Sanji on a ship with Shanks, shanks is getting bullied and called a drunkard dead beat and Yasopp also has to take whatever is thrown at him, Captain's orders, as Benn laughs until Sanji steals his cigarettes.
Also Sanji uses pistols and has long hair. I don't make the rules. Also could you imagine him somehow ending up on the fucking Strawhats? After being raised by Benn on the Red Force? Does he set up a time and a place for Luffy and him to meet to get on the crew? Did the bullying work?
Also are you the crab from AO3 cuz if so ILU and even if not ILU
Shanks raise ASL part 6
First - Previous - Next
So Ace squares his shoulders and raises his head to meet Shanks’ eyes. And he asks only one question. “What would you do if you found out Gol D. Roger’s had a son?”
The little boy braces himself. He’s ready, or so he thinks. He’s ready for this man to hate him. To tell him that his father was the devil and that his offspring are demons. That Ace shouldn’t exist. Maybe he’d kill Ace right where he stands. Tell Luffy and Sabo that Ace ran away for good and just continue on with life without the burden that is Ace.
What he doesn’t expect is for Shanks to walk towards him silently. The man’s eyes looking intently at his face, studying his features, looking for… something? Ace had no idea what. Did he think he was lying? Was he looking for proof? But then Shanks eyes welled up with tears and he dropped to his knees in front of Ace, throwing his arms around the boy and holding him close.
Ace has never been so confused. He expected to be shun or hit. Instead he was held like he was something precious. One of Shanks’ arms was firmly wrapped around his waist while the other hand was buried into his hair forcing Ace close to the man as he cried into Ace’s hair.
He could feel Shanks’ shaky breath as the man calmed down. “What would I do if I found out that Gol D. Roger’s had a son?” Shanks voice was gentle yet despite that Ace still tensed. He had no idea how Shanks was going to respond. Most adults mocked or hit him by now but Shanks was still holding him so tightly.
Shanks slowly pulled back just enough to look Ace in the eyes as he answers “I’d find him and protect him with my life just as his father protected me.”
“What?” Ace couldn’t understand. What did Shanks mean. Gol D. Rogers had never protected anyone.
Shanks could see the disbelief on the kid’s face. Which made sense. He had to wonder just how much Ace truly knew about his father. “Gol D. Roger’s found me in a treasure chest when I was a baby. He took me in and raised me as his own. I owe him everything.” Shanks said as he look Ace over again. Now that he was looking for it he could see Roger’s silver eyes. The dark hair was the same color as his captain’s, but the wavy texture was all Rouge, as were the constellation of freckles on the young boy’s cheeks.
“No that- you can’t be-” Ace didn’t know what to say. The man Shanks was describing, and the person that Shanks was were not compatible with his understand of who Roger and his crew were. “You can’t be a Roger’s pirate. They were monsters!” He couldn’t make his metal image of Roger and his crew and his memories of Shanks playing with his brothers and protecting them line up in his mind. There was no way this man who was so kind and doting to his brothers could be one of the bloodthirsty Roger pirates. He just couldn’t be.
“Now who told you that?” Shanks’ heart hurt to hear his captain’s son refer to their old family as monsters.
“Everyone. Everyone says that Roger was the devil and I’m his hell spawn.” Ace told him angrily. How did Shanks not get it. Ace was a monster and so was Roger. “I shouldn’t even be alive.”
Shanks pulled him close again, curling around the boy, shielding him from the world as best he could. Who did this? Who told his captain’s son all of these lies? Who told Ace he shouldn’t exist? Shanks was going to rip them apart for this. Ace should have been raised in the Oro Jackson surrounded by a loving crew that would protect him until death took them. But that wasn’t possible. He remembered why his captain handed himself over. Did Ace know about that?
“Your father was one of the greatest men I have ever known.” Ace started to argue but Shanks gently shushed him. “Let me finish. He was brave and kind and brought joy to those around him. And he fell in love with a wonderful woman, Portagas D. Rouge. But he was sick. He knew he didn’t have long. And when he found out your mom was pregnant he made a decision. He turned himself in to the marines.”
Ace’s heart was pounding in his chest. “What, what do you mean. He didn’t turn himself in he was caught by Gramps.” Shanks had to pause and breath through his rage at that one. Garp had been ‘raising’ Ace? That answered a few questions, but not all of them. After all Roger considered Garp a friend, but Shanks had disliked the man since he stood by and ordered Roger’s execution.
“He turned himself in to Garp, but he made him promise two things. One that the marines wouldn’t hunt down the rest of his crew after his executions, and two that you and your mom would be safe.” Shanks held the boy a little tighter. His captain gave up everything, and for what? If Roger’s could see them now would he think his sacrifice worth it?
“But why- how- I don’t understand.” Ace couldn’t wrap his head around what Shanks was telling him. Roger’s had been caught and executed for his crimes. What was this nonsense about noble sacrifices?
Shanks couldn’t blame the kid for not understanding it. He hadn’t understood his captain’s actions for a long time. But now as a captain himself, as someone who has a lover he would burn the world for, and as a freshly minted father of three, because these are HIS boys, he thinks he’s finally starting to get it. He would do anything to keep his crew, Mihawk, and the boys safe. Parting with his own life would be a small price to pay to guarantee their safety. But Shanks also knew the rest of his captain’s story.
“The marines lied kid.” He said with so much bitterness. “They lied to Roger. Promised they wouldn’t hunt down the crew and the people he cared for.” He let out a dark chuckle. “His body wasn’t even cold before they turned on us. Chased the crew all over the sea. Luckily we all disbanded before his execution or they would have got us all in one fell swoop. I was 15 and they chased me like rabid dogs. At the time I knew Rouge, your mom, was pregnant, but I had hoped that information was a secret. Apparently not as they launched a full hunt for you and your mom.” Shanks paused.
He was still furious he hadn’t been able to help Rouge at the time but none of them could have. He wasn’t lying about the marine pursuit being relentless for the first few years after Roger’s execution. It was a miracle that so many of them survived. But the price that he lost contact with his old family. He hadn’t talked to Buggy since Lougetown. He had run into Rayleigh a few years back and had sobbed like a child at seeing his second father again.
“I didn’t hear about the man hunt for the two of you until years later. By then I had to assume you both were dead.” Shanks tightened his arms around the silent boy. “I’m so glad you’re alive.”
Ace sat there is silence processing the new news. His father had died….for him? That couldn’t be right. Roger was the King of the Pirates he was selfish, he wouldn’t sacrifice so much for them.
“Your mom, do you know what happened to her?” Shanks felt awful asking, he had a feeling he already knew the answer, but he had to know. If Rouge was alive she was coming with them. No if ands or buts about it.
His hope didn’t live long. “She died giving birth to me.” Ace’s voice was hallow. He was still processing all of this news. His mom’s death was a fact. He killed her. The very first sin of his existence.
Shanks sighed and held Ace close. “She loved you so much. I’m sorry you didn’t get to met her.” They sat there in silence for a bit. Just taking in all that they had learned in the past few minutes.
“I don’t understand.” Ace finally said. “Everyone says that Roger was a monster, but the way you talk about him….” Ace just couldn’t wrap his head around everything he had just learned. Shanks thought for a second. He had an idea but Ace wasn’t going to like it.
“Do you think Luffy could ever be a monster?” Ace’s head shot back and he shoved himself a way from Shanks.
“Never! What are you talking about. Luffy is the kindest person I know. He could never be-”
“King of the Pirates?” Shanks finished Ace’s sentence, but not the way Ace would have. The boy was going to say monster, but Shanks’ interjection froze the boy in his tracks. “I believe that Luffy is going to be the next King of the Pirates. And with that, there is going to come a lot of lies from the government. They’re going to tell the world that Luffy is a monster. That he deserves to die. So I’m asking you, will you believe them when they say that about Luffy?” Shanks looked Ace dead in the eyes. Never wavering in his question.
“Never. Luffy just wants to be free.” Ace responds unshakable in his beliefs.
“So did Roger.” Ace froze again. He hated comparing his father to his little brother, but he also finally understood what Shanks was getting at. “Look you don’t have to like your dad, but you should know the truth about him. And the truth was he adore you. Enough to die for you without a second thought.”
Shanks sighed as he stood up. This was good. He’s overjoyed to know who Ace is and that he’s alive, but he’s also full of fury and wants to hunt Garp down, because what was that man thinking? Letting Ace believe all of the government’s propaganda. He’s exhausted from the emotional rollercoaster he’s been on tonight and he can see that Ace is to. But there’s one more thing they need to talk about before he can end this conversation.
“And I would to.” Ace jerks to met Shanks’ eyes. “I would die for you and your brothers in a heart beat. Not because you’re my captain’s son. But because I’ve come to see you as mine. I wasn’t lying when I said I wanted all three of you on my crew. You’re my kids. I would fight the world for you, the government and anyone else who tried to hurt you. Because you are Ace and I love you.” Shanks never broke eye contact with the boy. “Not because of who your dad is and not despite of who your dad is, but because of who you are.”
Ace felt tears well up in his eyes as he rushed towards Shanks. The man bending down to scoop the boy up and hold him close as he cried into his shoulder. Someone wanted him. Someone wanted Ace around. Shanks knew who his father was and didn’t hate him. He loved him, he said he did. Has anyone besides Luffy and Sabo ever said that to Ace before.
“I got you. It’s okay. You’re never going to be alone again.” Shanks reassured the boy as he held him close. “One day when you’re ready to set out on your own you’ll have my full support but until that day comes I’ve got you.” Shanks promised as he started to make his way out of the little shack. “Even after that you’ll still have me. I’ll always have your back, until the day I die. If you and your brothers need me I’ll be there. I swear this to you.” Shanks looked up at the moon as he started making his way back Foosha village. Back to Mihawk, Luffy, and Sabo. Back the the Red Force and his crew. And he made one more promise.
‘I’ll keep your boy safe Captain. I’ll raise him as my own, give him all the love you gave me. I won’t fail him. I couldn’t protect you but I’ll protect him with my life. I promise.”
Finally the bonding moment the two of them need.
Next time:
The return of a mountain bandit.
Shanks promise gets put to the test.
One Piece-Chapter Round-Up(Chapter 1089)
Tumblr media
Heyo friends! I am back with another One Piece Chapter Round-Up below the cut, but before we get into spoiler territory, I just want to point out this absolutely hilarious cover page. At first I didn't even notice Sanji behind her in the window but I love these layers Oda adds on to the simple request of Nami being served milk. Since she's being served a drink it makes sense the cook is in charge of it and since it's Sanji there's no way he doesn't use that opportunity to be... himself. And funnier still is that since the fact the paper is facing away from him he'll be waiting eagerly only to be rejected. One thing I might be reading into a little too much is Nami's quill, which looks like a skypeian wing hanging off her shoulder. Foreshadowing perhaps?(Look I have a contractual obligation to be absolutely unhinged at least once per round-up) Anyways, moving on, let's talk about the chapter below.
Obviously I want to freak out about that last panel, but there's something really interesting going on with this chapter before that. I don't know if it's because I have been recently reminiscing over Coby and the time he tried to stop the Marineford War, but I have honed in on the idea Oda presents of The Marines' absolute disregard for life and their acceptance of collateral damage. It was a shock to see it doubled down on in a new chapter just mere days after watching a clip of that moment from Marineford.
Tumblr media
With this being tumblr and the overwhelming majority of us being left leaning, I feel quite comfortable in discussing politics as mine are also left wing. Very heavily so. But I preface it with that fact so that you understand that some of my personal biases may play a role in my interpretations. Obviously, Oda and Japan's cultures are vastly different from those that I was raised up in so I am only speaking from a very surface level understanding and not the lived one Oda writes from. I have a very ACAB and abolish the police mentality and from my obviously biased point of view, it seems so does Oda.
Tumblr media
But it's not just policing that Oda emphasizes. It's any system of power. But he looks at it through the lens of policing because they make the most natural enemy of lawbreaking pirates. Also just like the popular idea of the Death Note representing Japan's harsh police system, the Marines also appear to be an allusion to it. I am really curious about which way Oda went about creating the Marines and their relationship to pirates. There was an idea of a distinction between pirates called Peace Mains and Morganeers in the two one shots of Romance Dawn where Morganeers were the pillaging type of pirates whilst Peace Mains preyed on the Morganeers like vigilantes and adventured as well. Obviously that put Peace Mains in a sort of policing position so it's really curious how we ended up with the Marines being the big bad(other than Blackbeard of course).
Tumblr media
In a tangent before we get back to the Marines, it's really interesting what carried over from the one shots, what didn't and what could. It had been a while since I revisited them but one thing I realized because of Crescent Moon Gyari is that Whitebeard's Beard looks like a crescent moon, basically symbolizing the moon before the dawn that is Luffy. Sorry if that was obvious, I'd just never made that connection before. The more interesting things to me are what might still carry over. Particularly from the second one shot where the Nami stand in, Ann, a blue haired girl with a pet bird is featured. Ann obviously also shares similarities with Vivi and Karoo but the idea of the Roc being a bird who's blood can cure diseases got my attention. That coupled with the Big Egg on the Oro Jackson and Choppers dream makes me think this could make a appearance once again. Also interesting was the fact that one of Luffy's moves was called Moon Shot and the idea of flying was presented over and over again. And Nami was also the child of Pirates. Wonder if that'll ever come into play. Another thing that was quite apparent was the imagery that really made an impact and crossed over to the final version. Honestly, I'd love to examine the two one shots in relation to the real story one day if someone hasn't already.
Tumblr media
Okay tangent over, back to the main topic. Which is, first of all, Oda's take on the Marines. There's two things at work here. One is Oda's take on the Marines as an organization through Imu's actions. One that does not care about the collateral damage as long as their power in ensured. And the other is institutions of power perpetuating their power through terrorizing life and the environment it lives on. They're kind of the same idea but one directly criticizes policing while the other criticizes any position of power. We'll focus on the first idea and then talk about how it connects to the second.
Tumblr media
The idea has been hammered into us over and over again. The Marines exist to further themselves. It's the absolute and peak function of institutions of power. And also very antithetical to the idea of dreams, which terminate once you reach them. Each of our Strawhats have a dream that has an end goal. But as a result of this goal of self perpetuation, the Marines often overlook their secondary goal of keeping the peace. This idea started as early as Axe-Hand Morgans but gets properly implemented in Arlong Park where the Marines look away as they get paid. Arlong doesn't disturb them and they benefit by having him essentially be an agent for them. That's how you know peacekeeping is a secondary goal. It's secondary to the idea of the Marine's keeping power. Oda criticizes privateering and the warlord system through this hypocrisy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And if this was just one instance then it could be seen as just one bad egg. Like policing so often wants to put out. But a system of power relies on the methods they use to stay in power always staying relevant. And that's when we come to Marineford, skipping over a lot of incredibly relevant examples to this argument like Enies Lobby. I feel like ya'll can follow that tangent yourselves. Ohara, knowledge that would invalidate their power, etc, etc. I would go more into it but I don't want to write so much away from the current chapter and the fact is that Marineford appears to deal with my criticisms.
Tumblr media
So how does Marineford appear to address the criticism of self preservation and perpetuation? (And this next statement is me playing Devil's Advocate if it's not apparent) If the Marines cared about preserving themselves, why would they seek to end the age of piracy if the function that keeps them in power is dealing with Pirates?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because, my devil's advocate self (wow, thank you for the softball Roy(no problem, Roy)), Marineford was an attempt by the Marines to depose Pirates and crown themselves the key power in the One Piece world. Oda did the math for us, the three great powers used to be the Four Yonkou's, The Marines, and the Seven Warlords. Do the math there and the Pirates come out on top. Also Oda cleverly states the strength of freedom by showing how strong these scattered, unaffiliated, and free people are by having the Marines, a wholly organized military force, be only a third of the equation instead of dominating. Oda follows George Lucas's lead on the idea of Rebels and Vietnam. So, Marineford wasn't just an attempt to put an end to the age of pirates, it was also an attempt to declare the Age of the Marines. And they did the math too, regardless of what happened, they would come out on top. Whether they declared their age or the pirate age kept going, they would still be needed. As Billy Butcher once said, "Fucking Diabolical". Why Koby was so important to the narrative of the War was because he let you see the true colours of the Marines. One that did not care about collateral damage as long as they stayed in power. They sacrificed so many lives needlessly for that reason. And they might have possibly ended the pirate age if not for Whitebeard.
Tumblr media
So all of that just to get to this chapter. Sorry for the long ride, but thank you for sticking with me. This chapter horrifically signifies the Marine's policy, by way of Imu, of collateral damage through very familiar sights of rising sea levels. I will speak to the real world connections soon. But these scenes of climate devastation show how uncaring the Marines are to the suffering of their subjects. And Subjects they are. Some people say One Piece is pro monarchy but Oda positions the Marines, even clearer now with Imu, as Monarchs, and criticizes them. Oda isn't pro monarchy, he's showing us how these instituions of power supplanted the previous institutions. And while people suffer, the Marines launch yet another offensive to keep ahold of their power. It's blatant at this point. Where they could be helping people, they gather one of the biggest forces they have since Marineford and try to stop the release of information that could weaken their hold.
Tumblr media
And the scenes of Climate Devastation precede an even more horrific sight. Not one of collateral damage. Not of the uncaring nature. But of the direct cost of keeping their power. The sunken island kingdom of Lulusia. It's terrifying and it ties the collateral damage to the cost directly. It's Oda's way of pointing out that the consequences of their actions and the actions they take to stay in power don't affect them, but their subjects, the people they purport to protect.
Tumblr media
All of this is why I am so interested in the conclusion Oda reaches in terms of the Marines. It's the reason I support the Ancient Kingdom being a nation of Pirates, it supports the idea of dissolution of the Marines. Oda is clearly setting up Koby and the rest of his peers as the next generation of the Marines but up until Koby became the clear front runner of the Marines, I always thought the Marines were meant to dissolve. But Oda seems to be setting them up to reform in a new direction. There's not a lot I disagree with Oda on but this might be one. Either way though, I will appreciate the nuanced take that Oda so often hides under layers of shounen action.
Tumblr media
But now to get to the real world implications. The whole situation with Imu is such a startling reflection of our own world. Again my politics come into play here. The Marines and the Twenty Kingdoms purport to be equal and not ruled under anyone but it's revealed that all along Imu has ruled them. Which would be a stark contrast to our largely democratic nations, right? But then Oda uses the visual metaphor of climate change and his point is clear. While policing exists to self perpetuate, it also answers to the beck and call of billionaires and corporations. I'm sure the statistic of 100 companies being responsible for 71% of global emissions is a statistic you've heard before dear reader. The governments bend over backwards to lobbying from these corporations while the police enforce it on the base level. On a visceral and violent level. We never left the monarchy, we just got new rulers.
Oh no! I've revealed my personal politics. Ahh! But in all honesty, this is my blog and I want to be able to talk freely here so I'll say what's on my mind. I'll always try to be upfront when my biases show though. The reason I am so explicit about my political opinions is because a lot of people who talk about One Piece don't engage with the deeply political and radical ideas it has. And as a result, you get a neutered audience and a neutered discussion. Anyways, that was my very long and convoluted idea on Oda's representation of policing and related politics, especially in relation to this chapter. Now onto a breakdown of the actual chapter.
Tumblr media
So right away we see an interesting sight. Morgans has already positioned Luffy as the main character of this conflict. And as we later find out, the Marines approve. Knowing that this will be a much talked about event sheds a really interesting light on this. One, Morgans has made Luffy undeniable in the media in regards to whatever happens next. Two, something big is going to happen. Three, the Marines will probably want to disavow it. Four, Luffy's presence is going to have the opposite effect and solidify this event as if he wasn't presented in such a central light, the Marines would've been able to sweep it under the rug easier. Also while a lot of that is speculation, one more reaching bit of speculation I want to put forward is that whatever happens next is going to invalidate Lulusia's disappearance. Some major truth is going to be revealed and it's going to show how unnecessary these sacrifices that the Marines make are. This also only furthers my interest in Morgans. Who is he? What's his play? What are his goals and is he playing a game with the Marines? It seems he regularly withholds information but eventually plays it in an acceptable manner to the Marines. My take is that he's possibly a revolutionary who's doing his best to sway the tide in their favour. If you look at a lot of his moves, it suggests they're highly calculated for maximum effect under the Marines rule while also shifting the discussion more in favour to the Revolutionary's and their causes and setting up for future dissemination of information he's currently withholding. Or it could be entirely posible I am giving him too much credit. Next, Makino calling Luffy her baby's big brother. Another clue to deadbeat dad Shanks theory? Don't mind me here, just watering my pet theories.
Tumblr media
But next, as I mentioned before, we see the consequences of the Marine's actions. From the apparently mundane but heartbreaking in Kamabakka, to the loss of life through tsunami's and the loss of homes on other islands. It's horrific and centers on the very real horror of Climate Change. But the sea levels rising a meter is also horrific in another way. Just to show how much water has been displaced, it's almost five times as much as the sea level has risen over the past 100 years in the real world. I think I dove a lot into the real world side of things so I do want to indulge in the One Piece world for a bit.
Tumblr media
So first off, the connection to Enies Lobby is completely apparent. Enies Lobby has some connection to the Mother Flame and perhaps the Ancient Kingdom being there holds some weight? I think another thing that is interesting is that the water was displaced. Somehow the Mother Flame doesn't just create a hole, but an entire Void where the water can't take the space of. Something something Void century, the theory's not fully there yet. But what it also suggests is that maybe Lulusia isn't completely gone? Perhaps it's been sent to Davy Jone's Locker? There's so many pieces of evidence floating around that I'm sure I'm missing something or overlooking a key piece that ties everything together, because right now this feels like a major hint to the true nature of the world. Also this could be a key factor in One Piece's unique world, like the Calm Belt and the Red Line. Also one interesting line is, "had no parallel in recorded history." But perhaps the Void Century? Speculation abounds! But maybe I'll have a concrete theory in the coming days, who knows. The Truth is Out There. No, but really, I feel like one or a few of those massively popular and some not so popular theories are somewhere close to the mark. Like the One Piece being a log book or the destruction of the Red Line. There's so much that's valid that I can see it all happening.
Tumblr media
Another heartbreaking scene plays out a little bit after we see the Marine's massive fleet, with a small flashback to Vegapunk, Sentomaru and Kizaru all looking much younger and happier. Kizaru is such an interesting character. He apparently has Unclear Justice but in everything he does it's hard to understand what that actually means. Nature of the word I guess? But Aokiji was Lazy Justice, and that can be seen in that he seems to be taking the easy way out by falling in with Blackbeard but what does that mean for Kizaru? He seems happy in the past and now he is very much uncaring. He mentions he's a cog in the machine but there seems to be some wiggle room. Perhaps unlike his previous two comrades, Akainu and Aokiji, Kizaru is the only one who can change? Honestly I don't really have a bead on him. But I am fascinated. Like with many things.
After that we get a recap and two key moments. The moment where Jay Garcia tells them to sink the escaping scientists is quite obvious and a parallel to Ohara and I think we've talked enough about direct actions, consequences, and collateral damage to get a rough gist of where that would go in reinforcing the themes Oda has set up in regards to the Marines. But the smaller moment of Jay Garcia remarking he likes what Morgans wrote is also key. The Marines hold some sway over the media, from withholding key information to actively enforcing violence but this is also an insight into how Morgans plays the game. He pacifies them but he also pushes his own agenda. A free media is key to citizens freedoms so it's really interesting how these two entities push and pull. I hope we get more insight into Morgans to see what Oda is actually trying to say because I'm curious.
And now we finally get to the last few pages. York is at times terrifying and at others painfully stupid. Just my type of character. She reminds me a lot of Buggy, who first started off as terrifying before becoming our lovable clown boy. But this makes me want York in the crew so bad. I would love if Vegapunk and all of his satellites joined because it would be such an interesting dynamic. The Come Save me panel is also quite a hilarious inversion of "I want to Live" from Enies Lobby as York is asking the Marines for help this time. I love her confident blustering. It's peak One Piece. It's peak Oda. I love it so much.
AND THEN FINALLY!!! OMFG THEY LOOK SO FUCKING COOL!!! I lost it so hard here. They're back and they look so badass! They look like a proper yonkou crew. This cutaway also hammers home how close we are getting to the end as Oda is skipping over some big fights. What this flash forward does let Oda do is that he can use it to do a small flashback chapter and recap key skipped over elements instead of going through them at a much slower pace in chronological order.
One final thing. All the strawhats look so cool, but a really surprising thing I noticed was that Ussop was holding the phone where I would assume Sanji would be. It feels like Sanji has shed a lot of the baggage that came with being Mr.Prince after Whole Cake Island and Wano. Now he's enjoying himself in the background. This could also be setting up the central role Ussop is going to be taking in Elbaf. Ussop of course has employed trickery before but just in this particular case with it's callbacks to Enies Lobby, I would've assumed Sanji be the one pulling off this ruse. Anyways, that's all for today folks. If you've read this far, thank you so much for sticking through. I really appreciate it! See ya for the next one! (Gonna slink off now to watch 1071).
Trying to spread some positivity in the OC community today, so: tell me ten random facts about Mira! Whatever fun little tidits you can think of, tell us about them!! <3
Oh yass, thank you for dropping this in my ask - I am so sorry that it took me 84 years to reply^^' 🥰
Tumblr media
1. Mira's mum died a few days after giving birth to her daughter. It wasn't the easiest of births and by the time they finally made it to port there wasn't anything to be done for her anymore.
2. Her father never once considered letting Mira grow up anywhere other than on board the Oro Jackson, he even took a wet nurse on board to make sure she was cared for in the best possible way.
3. Roger found Shanks (and Buggy) shortly after learning that he was gonna be a father and all possible canon plot relations aside also loved the idea of his "little mate" growing up with friends "his own age" on board. Oh well... xD
4. Mira gets abducted when she is around 13-14 while she's on a secret unsupervised night out with Shanks and Buggy. Sick and tired of the whole crew watching her like hawks and treating her like some kind of precious cargo, she talked the boys into this. The guilt they carry over this - and the constant cycle of blaming each other for it - puts a strain on their friendship that might have ended up completely destroying it had Mira not returned.
5. The Mystical Zoan fruit wasn't actually part of the original plan Cipherpol had for Mira. It was only over the course of her imprisonment and (vaguely Red Room-esque) torture/training that someone thought it would add an excellent touch to what they were trying to turn her into.
6. She very probably inherited her father's Haki powers, but so far the combination with her devil fruit makes it so that they present in very distinctive ways (for example, the way her siren voice will make people bend to her will could be seen as being directly related to Haoshoku Haki).
7. Mira's mermaid scales are a mix of different shades of sea green and gold and her eyes take on a gold hue when she's using her power. She choses not to alter her appearance in her day to day life, but one thing she wasn't able to "turn off" ever since she came back is an iridescent sheen where the light hits her skin, which mimicks the sea green and gold hues of her scales.
8. Due to her devil fruit's paradox nature Mira would still drown in the ocean - honorig the more supersticious approach of the ocean rejecting those who ate a devil fruit - but in bodies of fresh water she can actually transform into full mermaid form, including gills to breathe underwater. (She hardly ever does this, as the full transformation is such a rush that she fears it might become addictive. It is however a sight to behold and when Shanks finally sees her like this, he understands why the sailors from the tales he grew up on would go to their certain deaths for a creature like this.)
9. I am still not 100% over the idea of a form of mermaid-y mating bond between her and Shanks, just because the obsessive, soulmatey, feral aspect of it makes me go... well, feral. I am however still not sure how I would wanna go about it, because a) she is not an actual mermaid and b) I am putting them through The Horrors™️ and those include a fecking long time of involuntary separation, which in like 97% of mating bond scenarios would mean near certain death where I just want maximum sadness ^^' (if you have ideas / suggestions feel free to hit me up, this is definitely not my usual trope and I have little to no idea what I am doing xD)
10. Mira gets Mihawk to take her to Shanks when their daughter goes missing.
Tumblr media
BONUS - I am full on determined to make the timeline my bitch. I want Mira and Shanks to be older than they'd be in canon when Roger dies, but I also want their daughter to be around 18yrs old when she meets the straw hats. Yes, it doesn’t add up with the canon timeline and I am making a hellish effort to ignore this even though it kills me not to obsess over every little detail until it squashes all my passion 😬
WIP WEDNESDAY
It's Wippy Wednesday, my dudes. And it's a YCDHN week, so here's a juicy little snippet from Chapter 43.
-
The solution to wizard problems being more wizards was both a phenomenally terrible idea and somehow the only sensible one being offered. Most of the protests came from the actual party wizards who believed that no one, upon being awoken from centuries of stasis, would willingly fight in a war they had no stake in.
“But they would fight mage killers in their territory,” Lucien had grinned over their shoulders and that had shut up the debate on Essek’s end. Caleb had dragged his fingers through his hair and wandered off to pace.
The trouble was that these bubbles were resistant to average dispels. Even Cree couldn’t unravel the threads with hemocraft. Time was of the essence and they were violently throwing themselves at the one solution that still had caveats. This would work if they could break the bubbles and that if was becoming a dangerous gamble.
Lucien kept going back to the one in the center of the Viventum ward- the blonde wizard and her gaggle of frightened children. She was the one who would give them help, he knew that, felt it deep in his soul. The lone unselfish wizard who hadn’t tried to just save herself. He placed his palm on the bubble again and stared through the shimmering dome as if there was a secret hidden within no one had noticed.
The goggles around his neck felt strangely warm, drawing his attention. Mithril always ran cold even when warmed by his furnace-hot skin so for it to increase so noticeably in temperature was something to be regarded. He chewed on his bottom lip and slipped the goggles over his eyes.
What are you telling me? He adjusted the dials around the eyepiece, reaching through the connection he had with the Vestige. Click, click, click. Stop. He could feel it, a niggling in the back of his mind, like the hand of Danoth Oro, the man who had invented them and had his work exalted into the realm of legend, was whispering in his ear. No god had touched this Vestige, only a clever mortal who wanted to see the world that was hidden and prevent people from taking advantage of him with magic.
You’re a worthy successor, you keen-eyed scoundrel, the voice seemed to say. Use it for what matters to you.
Not use it for good. Of course not. Lucien was never going to be good. He was going to be better. This was a kindness he was doing, but it was also genuinely useful to him and no one ever said he couldn’t have it both ways. There was no shame in having an ulterior motive operating alongside your generosity. That was how the Nein saved the world- selfishly.
The Vestige opened up before him, all of its powers revealed to him, and he smiled, knowing why Fate had put this in his path. He’d give Her Majesty a firm dressing down in a mock prayer later. For now, he was thrilled to feel the power of reaching out to magic and simply dissolving it into useless strands of the weave again.
The antimagic field flickered into being with enough force that the dome shattered, knocking its occupants onto their asses on the ice. The children let out screams they had been holding in for years and threw themselves upon one another, clawing and clambering like puppies, scared out of their minds.
The blonde wizard’s form flickered with red crackles of arcane energy as the antimagic stole away her disguise, leaving her sprawled on her back, gaping like a fish. Gone was the pretty blonde thing and in her place was a leggy older woman with short brown hair that hung in greasy strands around her pinched, heavily lined face. She was rail thin and barely dressed in a low cut purple tunic that barely hit her knees. Fern-like veins of deep blood red lined her legs and arms and snaked up her throat.
She pushed herself up onto her knobby elbows, stared at her hand where a ring was sparking with dying arcane power. She tapped it a few times and then lifted her hand, as if to conjure something, and found that died to sparks too. She huffed.
The first words spoken by an Aeoran on Exandrian soil in hundreds of years was a profoundly deadpan (and in perfect Common no less), “Fuck.”
