I am not somebody that hops onto the "comic discourse" a lot. I usually prefer to talk things through with my friends and share opinions in private.
But since Tangle more or less got ignored so far i take the chance and talk a bit about her appearance in 64
She jumps in as a supportive character towards Whisper and helps her to prevent another breakdown. While yes, there was a scene in Urban Warfare that did the exact same thing, i feel like with issue 64 we finally see how strong of an impact this support actually has on the page. (I talk a bit more about Urban Warfare further down this post.) I don't even dare and call this bait (Edit: Not my words btw. i saw this used in another heated post. I personally never felt baited in any form. If anything, the girls relationship is one big highlight in these comics.) because it simply isn't. Here is a character that cares for her partner and also is uncomfortable with the whole situation to begin with. She has to decide where her priorities lie. Her reaction is to be expected to be focused on a trembling Whisper and all i can say is i'm glad we finally have a good depiction of that.
Tangle has the right to approach Whisper in ways i think no other character is able to, she earned it and it pretty much shows on this page. Softly taking down Whisper's mask and checking on her, the body language in these panels is chefs kiss. She's truly a bouncy girl, but it's good to see her being serious every now and then, i feel like it's a side of her that people usually tend to ignore. (And i really don't know why that is.) Evan Stanley does always an amazing job if it comes to showing Tangle in a different light or how she cares about her friends and loved ones. In regards about the current arc and even the last one, i feel like this post is a good chance to add my personal take to it as well, since it's been on my mind for a good while now. I feel like 64 finally makes a step into the right direction again.
To elaborate a little on that, i wasn't really a big fan of Urban Warfare, simply for the fact that it's pacing is all over the place. There were a lot of things that needed to be covered, to name a few: - new team building - Whisper's trauma - Lanolin introduced as a new character - a LOT of other teams jumping into the scene - the city itself all squeezed into a 5 book arc. One more book compared to a mini series that usually gives full focus to a set of chosen characters.
To make this clear, there are also good things in Urban Warfare as well but thanks to the fact how rushed the whole story felt in it's core it's a bit hard to enjoy the good bits as well...
Misadventures still deals with the same pacing problem and i believe that is where the real issue lies. As a reader/collector of the books and longtime fan of them, all i can say is:
I wish the comics would get their old, well cared, time for details back. Yes, a story like the Metal Virus was a long run but in the end it was a fantastic read. Mini arcs like Trial by Fire (Still one of my favorites), that focus on other things instead of the usual action, are also very important for character development and add a lot of depth to them. Endless Summer is a great example for such addition as well. These books provide insight into character interaction we usually don't see otherwise. Of course i have no idea how much SEGA is involved into everything if it comes to general decisions like how long one arc is supposed to last and when the next one should start.
(The next part is based on my personal taste, this has nothing to do with the general narrative of the books. I just want to share my thoughts about this since i really don't write them down a lot.)
As a little side note, i feel like Lanolin is a great character so far. Her stubborn and rule book like demeanor as a leader is refreshing to say the least. She also seems to be really close to how her creator ABT imagines her to be and i really appreciate that. But i can't help it and feel like her team dynamic with Tangle and Whisper comes of as rather… rocky ? On a combat level of things it works really good but on a friendship level it's somehow lacking atm. There is this boss and coworker relationship going on that feels more like real work. Obviously though she's new and needs more time to get better established. I guess we will see how this plays out in the future. I'm all in for a good or funny team dynamic but i also can't help it and feel like she works better as an addition to Jewel, running the restoration, the navigator typ that sends intel via com instead of a field combatant. Even if she proved she's good at close combat as well during her encounter with Whisper in 64. That being said, i am all open for surprises and more character development on her part. This is really just a "now" opinion and can easily change over time. I like the sheep, i really do.

making this a new post because i want to add relevant tags and elaborate on what i mean here. all panels from nightwing (2016) #108
there's the issue of dick pushing bea aside to be with barbara
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there's plenty of other posts exploring the issues with this and i did too in my original post. like yeah there is definitely a racial aspect here
2. bea is the adopted child of a secret pirate society in bludhaven. her adoptive brother, a white man, claims to be the "true" heir
Tumblr media
a) ignoring that this reads like this supporter of her brother is calling bea a racial slur b) you can't write this and then ignore the racial dynamics that are absolutely at play here. nowhere in this comic is it even mentioned that white members of the crew might not accept bea as the heir because of her race, even though in a story that is at least based in reality, this is absolutely true. c) when race dynamics are not addressed, it leaves me with this really uncomfortable feeling. like the characters are doing racism and it's not addressed to a point where it's ignored, which isn't what i need or want. i don't need my hand to be held when discerning the meaning of a text. i do need certain things actually written down for them to be part of that meaning. otherwise it feels like disregarding the racial aspect of this conflict to a harmful degree.
even if the purpose of this arc was to explore the racism bea faces, in not doing so in an explicit way, the story itself is being racist to her. like guys idk. tom taylor what the fuck is wrong with you.
3) bea getting fucking stabbed by her white nationalist brother
Tumblr media
hey um. why'd you do that.
and i am saying all of this as someone who fucking hates the ric grayson arc and does genuinely enjoy dickbabs. i just don't see anyone else talking about this and it's wild. it's wild that tom taylor is just getting away with this

Dearest,
I am unsure as to whether my previous attempt at messaging you has been successful so, I would like to chance sending you another one.
I recently came across your healing post, and I would like to ask if you mind elaborating on it? What were the steps you take to heal? And what is it you needed healing of that led you to make sense of everything, if you can share?
Thank you.
-S
Hi angel,
I made a post prior to getting sick of some of the things (a lot actually) that I worked on, that I felt comfortable sharing online. I want to add that healing in itself isn't even just about the things you literally need to heal and work on, but also the things you do not know you need to work on. And based on my experience, is something a lot of people aren't willing to do until they decide to want better for themselves overall.
And that is the first step. Deciding that you want better. Deciding to be honest with yourself. Deciding to heal from the experiences that could be hurting you, holding you back, or turning you into a person you do not want to be, or can acknowledge displays negative behaviors that are infused in their personality as a result of.
Once you go in with that mindset, its almost like a ripple starts happening in your life and everything changes and more things come to life. But acceptance of it and your willingness is most important. You don't really know what you need as long as you are willing to let go of control and in my opinion, have a goal for the person you want to become.
Like I mentioned before, for me, it was about knowing I needed to develop into a certain type of person, to get to where I wanted to go in my career. And I could have forced those behaviors and interests, but it would not have been authentic and as a result would not have geared towards positive results. Also it was me acknowledging repeated negative results in other personal areas of my life where I knew I needed to make some changes so that I could stop getting the same result.
Going on a healing journey is actually very hard. And it is definitely not linear. But absolutely worth it.

it's my first few days of using the zettelkasten and oh my gods. it is a gamechanger. the connections lead me to deeper understanding and making sure i have all the concepts i am learning about clear. and because i am learning computer science (sic...) there are so many connections? like i am reading on sth new and making a zettel and i am like "oh and that was also covered in [[another topic]] and its the same concept actually" and idk! excitng. it's really a good way to take notes when learning!
I guess one question about your previous post and the usage itself - can you elaborate more about how you use tags? I think what you described in your post differs from what the person from the "official" website mentioned?
!!!! yesss I have successfully spread the good word of zettelkasten (genuinely, very glad that it's helping you)
So on a basic level I'd say my tagging system isn't actually that complicated, I just tag things with topics they're relevant to in the same way I would on tumblr, but to elaborate on some of the things I said about tags in my previous answer -
The main thing is that tags have different levels of usefulness depending on their level of specificity. On one end of the specificity scale I have zettels tagged with a code for a specific article I've been using a lot for my thesis, which is useful for finding exactly what I need from that article reasonably quickly. On the other end of the scale, I have tags like "mathematics" which... are basically functionally folders once I decided to follow the website's advice that everything should be thrown in together and you shouldn't have actual folders because that's too rigid. (edit: thought to add, if you're wondering why not just stick to actual folders then if it's the same function: the difference is that with tags you can have overlaps in categories without one strictly fitting inside another). These are useless for searching because of how many results they'd bring up, but sometimes I want to keep track of how much of my zettelkasten is dedicated to a specific topic.
The other thing I mentioned using tags for is when there's a common theme emerging but I don't have enough to say about it to justify making it its own zettel and linking to that, so having zettels share the tag functions as its own form of "linking" since I can click on the tag to find other relevant zettels. In practice this type of tagging works the same as any other high-specificity tags, except the topic they all fit under is less obvious. I don't have that many of these because usually I do end up just making an actual zettel for the common theme but an example I could give is, I have a "structural-symmetry" tag where I don't feel the need to make a note defining what structural symmetry means but I do feel like collecting examples of it; if I get enough examples to have something to say on the topic beyond a basic definition I could end up making a zettel for it though.
I generally try to give each zettel tags of multiple levels of specificity because high specificity tags help me find it and group it with other worthwhile concepts, and making sure every zettel gets a low specificity tag helps me keep track of how the info I have in my zettelkasten divvies up. And medium specificity tags do a little of both.

Playing Thimbleweed Park, finding it absolutely delightful, and then going online to see lots of people complaining about it? Baffling. I wasn't planning on making a post-game thoughts post, but now I am anyways
*mild spoilers follow*
I'm particularly primed to enjoy meta storytelling, apparently. I don't know why, but often when I see people complaining about meta stuff in stories, it's the kind of stuff I find enjoyable or interesting. This is a meta story and maybe some aspects are annoying and I just can't see because Gilbert and I have the same style of humor
Thimbleweed Park is not an 'ironic' game, it's not making fun of gaming or 'punishing' players for buying into the game situation (a wild take imo, did we play the same game?)
Thimbleweed Park is a game that loves games. it's a game that loves making games and playing games. it's all about how fun these kinds of games are. poking fun at gaming logic even as it's completely reliant on it; it's saying 'this is silly. isn't that so fun??' you're collecting dust because isn't it fun to collect pixels?? we set up these elaborate puzzles to entice you to the ending because aren't elaborate game puzzles fun??
I don't know how to properly verbalize my thoughts on this topic, just to say that, to me, the characters acknowledging openly that they're in a game doesn't feel a like a cop-out. It feels like it was making genuine what was, up until that point, just a joke. at no point in the game was it not commenting on being a game, from 'the corpse is pixelating' to 'that highway was long, i hope we dont have to walk down it again' to 'heres a flyer about a hintline, i have no idea what that means'. but all of those comments are just kind of jokes. we laugh at the cosmic irony of knowing something the characters don't
once the characters know it, it's not ironic anymore. it's a thing that's always been true, that they've always kind of known, and that's getting directly addressed finally. and once it is, we can start thinking about the vehicle of the game medium in how the story is told
because on the one hand this is a story about free will, kind of, but it's not about how these characters don't have it because they're in a game
like, what really sells the ending to me is how every character's personal quest gets completed. we're in a game and everything's going to get wiped? well I finally got the evidence I needed to clear my father's name, and that's how I'm going to spend my last twenty minutes. Ransome spends the whole game being a scumbag, and his last act before everything is over is to acknowledge that there is a lesson to be learned from this, and to try to make up for it
my interpretation is that it's about the free will to be a better person. Uncle Chuck uses and abuses everyone around him and throughout the ending there's a part of him that's fighting the 'evil' side to beg his niece to free him. it's cheesy and overdone, but the whole genre is cheesy and overdone. Ray and Reyes are direct foils, cold and condescending vs warm and enthusiastic, but even Ray's personal quest ends by giving someone an award for being Good At Games
maybe I'm overthinking this, but for a game that spent so much time expressing how much it loved games, and fun, and cheese, saying the 'its all a game' ending is a 'so it doesn't matter' ending seems to be missing the point. it's all a game; isn't that fun??
(and I want to add that the 'final boss' of the game being the game itself, which I imagine some people will think contradicts my point, really just seems like a continuation of the theme. the characters act like this is going to work even though the player knows 'shutting down' the game isn't going to destroy it - because they're still in a game, and I still want to be able to play it
the real villain isn't the existence of the game itself, but the ideology of 'its just a game so our actions dont matter'. Chuck's evil side is brought on by the AI revealing the nature of the game (though he was a dick long before that); he kills Franklin and Boris because 'this isn't real so my actions don't matter'. he orchestrates this mystery to get Delores to break into the wireframe and shut down the whole game... but of course the game recovers itself. because the game wasn't the problem. it was the dismissal of people and their well-being that was the problem)

An Update
Hey all, Scott here!
I understand the silence for comic-making has been a bit... long as of late. Things may continue to be a little inactive for a while on that front, but I do have some news that may excite you.
Slowly, I'm moving the Marlette comics to ComicFury!
This means a lot of things for this little AU. So, below, I'll detail exactly what will happen with this change and why I've come to this conclusion.
Why ComicFury?
Truth be told, uploading the comics to Imgur isn't very fun. For one, if I need to fix a typo, I have to upload the image, resort the album in order to place it correctly (which in itself can take a few minutes, depending on the size of the comic AND the visuals for the panel), and delete the old image. There's no "update image" button. This is, frankly, really elaborate in ways that frustrates me. That's why the ol' "lense" typo from Tape 1 still exists...
There's the ability to add captions for each panel, but I can't visually separate an author's note for clarifying something, versus making a transcript. I've never written them for the comics, but I do want to to help make things more accessible. Without the visual and even technical distinction between them, I fear it might make things a little frustrating for more than just me.
Changing hosts from Imgur to ComicFury will help alleviate the issues I've described. I can add author notes to certain pages, and I can add transcripts easily! That way, things are so much better for everyone.
How long will this take?
Ever since I've uploaded the comic, Magic, I've been working on the site in quiet. I initially wanted to host it on Neocities for its custom layout, but after seeing the rather complex systems for comic hosting I've seen, it deterred me for a while. Then, I realized... hey, one of my favorite Undertale AUs is hosted on ComicFury, and they also have a custom layout! And looking into its system, it has systems that very closely resemble something I've been wanting and looking for.
All of this to say, the website should be complete very soon! It's very close to completion, though I still have much to do. I have to finish coding the looks of the website. Everything looks roughly the way I want to right now, but there's small little touches I'd like to add. At most, this will take a month, and at least, it might be out this week!
What does the site look like right now?
Well, I'm glad you asked! Here's some screenshots of what I have so far. Note that not everything here is final.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The page that displays the comic will have a border if your resolution / window size will support it. If it's smaller, don't worry, the border can disappear for optimal reading experience!
The sidebar holds important information about the comic, a search bar to look for specific pages, and a section that holds other AUs one may be interested in. There might be more information here in the future... who knows!
For now, that's all I have to show. I hope this makes up for the silence I've been giving. I'll make a post when the website is ready.
No, the site will not replace the Tumblr. Both will run together.
Thank you for your patience, as always!

Actually, ok no, let me elaborate my thoughts on this post and the stuff i said in the tags.
Very valid post. It focuses on commercial use of ai generated art by big companies, more than ai art itself. The key here is big companies. I didn't elaborate on that in the tags because yeah i agree with OP's analysis: well said, nothing to add.
Although, when i said "don't blame the tool", well it seems what the original post is complaining about is, really, uh, capitalism? The financial system in which we live? Technology progressed, ai art is now a thing, companies have found a new shiny way to save money.
What i don't agree on at all is the attitude of going "this tool is bad i won't use it anymore for personal use because it's 'morally' corrupt". There's a lot to unpack there.
a) private users and small creators not using it don't affect at all the situation. It's not a very efficient way to protest. Big companies are still gonna use them.
c) by casting a moral judgement on something, you are depriving yourself of it. I have experience in these kinds of emotional evaluations. Ask me about it. They only hurt you, they aren't good. You loose something, in this case potential revenues, access to art, a creative and satisfying hobby,...
b) "cancelling AI".... This form of moralism... it's a cultural tendency of our age that isn't really good for our society. What's essentially happening is that something (ai art) is branded as a "moral evil". Like someone infected by the plague (or sin), interacting with it in any way, shape, or form, is considered dangerous/morally wrong. Just because people are making bad use of AI art generators, it doesn't mean you using it is bad.
Furthermore, on the topic of big bad evil companies. Do you think they aren't trying to save money off their artists even now? Do you think that, without AI, artists will automatically be entitled to fair wages? Nah. There's tons of young art-school graduates that are dying to work for those companies and if one artists complains about not being paid enough the company is gonna point out that they're easily replaceable, by a human. Could it be worse with AIs? Maybe. Are we going toward a future where art-making is akin to a factory worker churning out products at a steady, and non-stop, rate? Yeaaah well you know, i'm a pessimist at heart.
In any case, I don't think AI art should be banned from commerce. It would probably hurt small creators.
But most importantly, damn it, don't let capitalism control your desires, your excitement, your creativity. If you wanna make use of AI-generated images, DO IT. Don't play into capitalism's hand. You don't need to stay morally pure, we aren't pure beings. Don't let others make you feel bad for playing in the mud.

Attack On Titan Chapter 111 and 112 Thoughts
Chapter 112 had different framing compared to what it seemed to have when I first saw the spoilers.
But first I'm going to look at chapter 111 for a little bit.
The tl; dr version of chapter 111's ideas is that regardless of what the past was, the ultimate way to escape the cycle of revenge is essentially to act like adults about it.
Basically, the way out of this is to fight injustice, but with control and the goal of stopping any further violence, something demonstrated by the whole scene with Gabi, Mr. Braus and Nikolo.
I love Mikasa and Mr. Braus so much in 111 because of this idea.
The chapter has a great use of the flashback Mikasa had a few chapters ago about Eren's reckless actions as a child. Mikasa is acting the opposite of it in 111 and stopping the problem with as little bloodshed and as few reckless actions as possible. Her actions are completely controlled and mature, which is great growth when thinking about how she acted as a soldier back in Trost and just to add a little bit of 112 in here, it's actually specifically a great way of showing her character-specific growth. I'm so happy Mikasa is getting some love.
On Mr. Braus' part, what would killing Gabi do except just add another corpse to the list? This situation isn't about her position as a warrior candidate, it's about whether to get revenge or not and Mr. Braus chooses not to. Sasha was a soldier and so is Gabi, both were hunting each other in a forest and Sasha was the one who was killed. So he decides to not kill back because in the more human sense, it wouldn't solve anything, even if it later on could lead to a similar outcome for him as for Sasha. He chooses to be kind instead.
Here, I once again think about the clumsy Jewish analogue the story uses. Much of the weight of this goes away if you think about how the Eldians supposedly had an empire and were the oppressors once. This analogue just doesn't work because the Jewish people have been victims for most of history.
I don't think this is something intentionally mean-spirited, rather just a clumsy, not very thoughtful analogue that is at odds with the "cycle of revenge" themes of the story, but perhaps it's not and this "clumsiness" is intentional?
Looking at chapter 112, we just don’t know the truth. All sources we have are vague. Kruger says the blood tests determine everything, but in chapter 112 we learn the Marleyan researchers actually barely know anything themselves. Kruger said that they don't know everything, as well, but questioning what is true and talking about ignorance is this chapter’s focus point. The story goes out of it’s way to add that most of this information might not be definite and to later confirm it’s all true would be unsatisfying and anti-climactic.
Tumblr media
(Hey, Eren, if the Marleyans barely know anything, maybe, just maybe, the info you have isn’t very reliable, either. Especially since the Ackermans literally rebelled against the king.)
Now, what if the history we know from Marley is even more exgaggerated than we think it is? Because that is definitely in line with the Jewish analogue. It's essentially propaganda across hundreds, even thousands of years that made the Jewish people a target of hatred.
Perhaps the Eldians were just a regular people just like any other, rather than some massive empire or perhaps it's the power of the Titans that lead to them being corrupted because it gave them power? That would appropriately make them very human victims and any misinterpretation of history within the story appropriately human because history is often interpreted in a way to fit the agenda of a specific side. Grisha's perspective and Marley's propaganda both interpret the same history with no nuance whatsoever and in a way to support their goals.
So, chapter 112 once again addresses the series' ideas about ignorance and knowledge, to the point where it's even literally called "Ignorance" and the panel with Eren above makes me extremely happy because it's also addressing the Ackerbond reveal and the potential problems I have with it, hopefully. It really bothered me when I first read the spoilers for the chapter, but what Eren says probably isn't true or is at least put in a way convinient to (as I believe) Zeke because the Titan researchers of Marley have very limited knowledge themselves. The effect of the memories on the person probably isn't as extreme as Eren assumes it is (but still exists and since Eren has so many different memories it could be actually influencing him much more than Armin) and what he said to Mikasa is probably at least partially untrue (and hopefully the untrue part is the part about robbing the person of their will, I went into why I very massively dislike that idea here and the story itself disapproves that idea multiple times, but it actually being true would be a mess).
My take here is that Zeke has Eren right in his palm and Eren's the one being manipulated.
I also wrote a post about Eren before the chapter release thinking he was pushing his friends away to protect them/make sure they don't miss him because he's planning to sacrifice himself, and I think this is still a likely possibility (at least still might be a part of why he's being an asshole), but here I'm leaning more towards him doing it because Zeke convinced him his connections to others take his freedom away (or something like that), which is something I think these panels convey:
Tumblr media
He's so frustrated with the situation they're forced into that he is basically turning into someone similar to his enemy: someone who uses the freedom gained by being powerful to hurt others, rather than help them and I feel like it's at least partially Zeke's manipulation and partially because of the details about the Titans he learned from his memories, which essentially say that they're not free.
It addresses a potential hole to fall into in the fight for freedom and again, brings in the idea of becoming what you fight/hate.
Younger Eren really hated people who took away others' freedom. It's why he could kill the slave traders so easily - they were monsters, not human to him.
It's still not a 100% definite perspective, but regardless, I'm happy to finally have something elaborating on Eren's current perspective.
I enjoyed the thematic substance of these chapters a lot. Chapter 111 continues Gabi's development in a very gradual way (something I felt would happen, but could end up rushed when she and her potential arc was first introduced, she always seemed the type of character to be introduced to be developed, the question was how gradually), I also thought the rift between Eren, Armin and Mikasa could potentially feel unnatural, but, for now, it doesn't. I'm pretty sure Eren is being manipulated and he needs to be smacked in the face before he does something stupid with horrible consequences. I also suspect he won't be smacked before he does something horrible because that's a narrative path that seems logical to go for, but stopping him before he does it is more likely now than it was in the previous chapter because he at least confronted Mikasa and Armin and that might matter.
Now I'm also pretty sure it'll be revealed that all humans can turn into Titans and the real truth could definitely be pretty different from what we know.
This was some good stuff, and once again, I'm looking forward to how it all ends.
