the thing that's both cool and frustrating about the terror is, because all the characters are so fleshed out and developed, it does make me want in-depth explorations of all the characters' interactions with each other

obviously mostly centered around My Specialest Marine, but like. do tozer and hodgson even ever talk? they both have such misgivings about hickey in ep 9, and tozer and the ducklings are scheming already when hodgson admits to goodsir that he'd get rid of hickey if he could see any other path to surviving. so there's at least five people in the mutineer camp who'd be down for removing hickey from the equation. i really feel like if they'd just TALKED amongst themselves they'd have gotten somewhere with that

#not that i expect tozer to get over his distrust of command just to chat with hodge but like #hodgson's already been demoted. he doesn't have the power over men's lives that sol resents about terror's command thus far. #so i could see it being easier for tozer to talk with him on a more even level #but they never do #not without hickey present #and then if they did link up with crozier's party on the way back to the ships hodge is in a position to excuse sol's mutiny #I JUST. I'm ngl I feel bad for a lot of the mods- not that everything they're doing is always right and free of sin or that they're perfect and don't deserve the criticism they get (because they absolutely do)- but because I've been on online staff teams before in big communities trying to keep track of a bunch of rules and it is fucking *hard* to make sure there's no miscommunication. ESPECIALLY when everyone has a different idea on what the rules mean and everyone is trying to enforce them differently. It's not something they're likely doing on purpose, but when you get swamped with a shit ton of reports, are always in the spotlight with people blaming you for every bad thing that happens or are all trying to enforce rules that no one seems to know the meaning of it gets very very draining.

But I've also learned from being in that position that there *are* ways to prevent this, at least some of it. I really do hope next year they aren't as understaffed and can get through some of the root causes to so many of these issues. I'm sure the staff are just as drained as the community if not more so at this point.
