Azul x Deuce

This conniving powerful merman from the Coral Sea falling for this poor dumbass with a heart of gold barely holding his grades together and they're both trying their best and failing

They're equally protective of each other and Azul finds said protectiveness from Deuce rather endearing even though he can very much take care of himself

Deuce finding Azul's octo form cool and beautiful and Azul is just like "what"

Azul teaching Deuce different ways to cook, Deuce tries to make something for Azul by himself and nearly burns the kitchen down (it wasn't entirely his fault Grim was messing around)

Idk their interactions outside of chapter 3 (especially in Glomas) made me smile and I think they'd be quite cute, even if there are a number of things they'd have to set straight before dating lmao

There so many thoughts swirling but I'm sleepy so I'll post more about this tomorrow maybe

Bit late here but life.

Valentine's day is such a trip for fandoms, right? Cute date fics. Confession fics. Realization fics. All the good stuff.

The day has some historical attachments right? It just got overshadowed by consumerism and the like. So we could just not care and add it to any world and have it work out the same way.

Worldbuilding, babe.

I was thinking about this for Twisted Wonderland. Because we have the obvious Queen of Hearts. And with the insanity of her kingdom, it would be fun to see what we can come up with. (Other than, "Prefect has a holiday in their world and it's all about love and everyone on campus is thirsty so let's roll with it")

If the Queen of Hearts had a King or a sweetheart, a day could be made to celebrate that connection. In theory, confessing on the day could bring good luck? That would be cute. And it spiralled from there until it became more associated with cheesy gestures than a true bond.

Now the AzuDeu part. Yuu brings up Valentine's Day and Ace and Deuce bring up 'Hearts Day' or whatever we call it and that it's really only a big deal in the Queendom of Roses. Yuu mentions it around the Tweels and Azul panics because of course, wouldn't you want a potential love interest to celebrate holidays like that? And Azul very much wants to be Deuce's love interest

So Azul does research, and ignores the Tweels cackling at him, because this is important. And while Ace has the whole 'meh, old fashioned', Deuce is a bit of a romantic from his chats with his dorm mates. So Deuce would actually find it lucky/cute to be confessed on this day.

Yuu and the Tweels, tired of their pining friends, make a huge event of the day because of 'unity'. Which of course, gets in the way of Azul and Deuce actually spending the day together.

A full day of insanity and possible fireworks and confession kisses at the end!

Even after everything, Deuce still turns his back on him.

Azul sees it in the way the freshman tries to run from his attacks and fights back, trying to run from Azul himself. Growing more and more distant with every stray spark of magic.

What happened to the one who said those sweet and earnest “Good morning, senpai!”s, or those demure “Sorry”s, or those adorable “I did it, senpai!”s? Instead, you give me this—!

It’s frustrating. Maddening. Infuriating.

Heartbreaking.

Slowly, slowly, not unlike the lovely bottled head of the Phantom guiding him, it feels as if there’s a hollow cavity being carved out in Azul’s aching chest. A twisted voice whispers to him—

If you truly love something, never let go of it.

“Is that so?” he whispers to himself, staring at him while thrashing about his blot-extended tentacles wildly. 

In that case, he’ll just fill the gap in his heart with a perfect Deuce-shaped piece.

He reaches with his foremost arms, stretching them out as far as he can, and draws Deuce closer to him. Closer and closer until he is nicely and neatly tucked to Azul’s chest, fitting under his chin like he was simply meant to be there. 

“Ah—” Deuce gasps in surprise, looking up at Azul with unreadable wide eyes as a hand comes to gently cradle the back of his head. “Ashengrotto-senpai…?!”

“Don’t worry, dear,” Azul croons softly, ink-like blot slowly slipping down his cheeks in teary rivulets. “I won’t let you go ever again.”

Obvious one first: they both want to let go of their pasts. Get better from them.

Deuce is so honest and expressive. Absolutely no lying bone in his body. On the opposite end, Azul is reclusive and hides behind a pleasant mask of shallow friendliness. Lies/twists truths a lot if it benefits him.

While I do draw more FloRid (or pretty much the ship I like drawing together the most), TreyJade is technically my top fave ship LMAO. I really like their dynamic a lot and I have more fics saved with them but drawing Trey is either a bit easy or way too difficult for me and no in between ✨

Can I shout into the void about my first rare pair? I like what I like and I usually end up as part of the majority of the fandom. Or at least pairs that have a decent following.

But not for Twisted Wonderland. Not for this fandom! My fav, my baby boy, my precious darling Deuce ...I ship him with Azul the most. Gotta love my octo boy. But Deuce with the Tweels and Trey also warms my heart.
