And for the first question I'll take this ask as an opportunity to sum up some hcs I have for this AU 👍 but some important notes first:

I personally rather imagine this AU as a magicless/not-so-magic-central kinda world just for simplicity sake, but the rest of twst og lore pretty much remains the same.

I just talk abt scarabia here bcs they are my faves!

Since what inspired me to ramble about this AU was across the spider-verse, I do make a brief mention canon events and a bit of multiverse stuff

Earth 2506 - Kalim as the spider-man of his dimension. Can also be referred to as the desert-spider!

uhh (making up an origin story on the spot right now) considering he comes from a family of influential merchants, maybe they got a great deal to partner up with some sort of scientific corporation, to deal with the business side of their new technologies. Kalim was for the first time invited to one of the meetings, as the heir to the family business, it was about time for him to check in person how things worked on this field. In short, it did not end well. As they walked around the corporation's main labs, one spider subject went loose, and Kalim stood right under its web.

he's very fitting to be a spidey, considering his happy-go-lucky personality, he'd be the type of spider-man to mess around and have a lot of fun playing the role of a hero

(Fight goes silent)

Kalim: well! that was another easy adventure for spider ma-

(Big explosion)

Jamil is the first one to know about this secret identity of course. He covers up any potential slips, as to not reveal this secret to anyone else

One notable thing about spider-man!Kalim is that he can afford whatever hero gadgets he needs. Gotta fix his web shooters? Want a nice improvement on his hero constume? No problem. He got a fair share of contacts from people who'd easily do all of these for him. Even though it is Jamil the one who usually runs after this stuff in his place...

Canon event stuff being losing a best friend? Jamil in this universe actually becomes Venom (maybe he found a symbiote from the same lab the spider came from) and yeah they had to fight. Jamil probably snapped for the same reasons he got his overblot. And this is the part where Kalim learns that with great powers comes great responsibility...

What would happen next? Does he move on eventually after the fight? Will there be other villains for spider-man to stop? How will he keep the secret identity now that Jamil's gone? Well, these are great questions, because- (runs away)

Earth 1209 - Jamil as the spider-man of his dimension. Idk if he'd go by any other variant of a spider-man name

Now that I think about it, his own universe is probably an accidental breach from Kalim's. As in "what if Kalim didn't get bitten at the lab, and instead brought the radioactive spider back home by accident?" then when Jamil took Kalim's backpack he was the one to get bitten instead

Ace happened to be the first one to find out about Jamil's powers after an incident on a basketball game. Their dynamic is funny. It's not like Ace wants to be the "guy in the chair" but if Jamil's secret identity is ever at risk, he'd volunteer to help, no questions asked. And aside from him, Najma is the only other person who knows about this as well. The very moment spider-man made his first appearance in public she knew! She says it's a "sister instinct", or something like that. She'd even offer to help him and make him a proper hero uniform... but ONLY if he agrees to do all the house chores for her for a month.

Najma: you gotta say it first :)

Perhaps spider-man!Jamil has a puppeteer-like skill that he can use to control a small number of people with his webs!

Leona could be a mentor type of character in this universe. Like Jamil already kinda looks up to him in canon, but this time they are a little nicer to each other loll and I only bring this up because there is no "uncle Ben" for Jamil to lose, but Leona is the closest thing he could have to one, so...... canon event. That also ties up to that spider-man story trope of the hero finding himself in the wrong place wrong time, by the side of the person they just lost, only for a third party to walk in and assume it was spider-man the one who killed them. Having people assume this masked man to have killed a person as prestigious as Leona immediately makes spider-man public enemy #1

And edit: just remembered the point abouve could be Kalim alternatively. Which would be even more tragic to think both Jamil and Kalim lose each other in their respective universes

But what do we do after that? How does Jamil redeem himself after this misunderstanding? What if he just gives up being spider-man? Well, uhhh these are also good questions.... look over there! (runs away again)

When I started shipping it if I did:

honestly i’d say like. pretty much right away when i went through sr1? i thought they just made a perfect pair. dex complemented anteros so well imo, and eventually it snowballed into becoming a cornerstone of my canon. their dynamic is crucial to the foundation of my sr canon. kinda interesting how it started out w “i really love dex and i think he works well w my boss character and how he develops into srtt” to “my canon as we know it would literally not exist without the relationship between dex and anteros”

My thoughts:

where do i even start. what can i say that i haven’t said about them before. two halves. the sun and the moon. would find each other in any universe. trapped in an endless cycle. i love you i hate you no one can kill you but me no one will ever understand me but you. devoted until the end.

What makes me happy about them:

i love thinking about them in sr1. it’s so important to me that they goof off together; anteros showing dex all his fave clubs and going out drinking and anteros trying to get dex to dance w him but dex getting too self-conscious but they’re still laughing anyway and then coming to the church the next morning hungover but trying to not make it obvious. both showing more vulnerable sides of themselves to each other. just that whirlwind romance of sr1. then 10 years later having them start over and having this become a slowburning desire for each other. a yearning to return to what once was and eventually trying to create some semblance of a normal relationship. those little moments. the knowledge that despite it all they never stopped loving each other.

What makes me sad about them:

honestly what makes me happy abt them also makes me sad. the death of anteros at the end of sr1. dex feeling as if he’s lost everything at that point, w julius leaving and anteros dead. his anger at troy for lying, for not putting anteros out of his misery. and just the entirety of sr2 and srtt. similarly once they DO “start over” post-sriv, it’s overlayed w a sense of tragedy bc what does it mean to have a “normal” relationship when you’re them? does it mean hiding it all over again? when will it be their turn. for better or for worse things will never be like they once were. we can’t go back to stilwater 2006.

Things done in fanfic that annoys me:

never really ventured into dex/boss fic i’ll be real. ig in general i just don’t like when dex gets characterized as this irredeemable villain bc that’s just not him at all. i see so many old things that just give him no nuance or just forget he exists…..heartbreaking

Things I look for in fanfic:

again never really looked at dex/boss fic so not super applicable. the things i would look for are. um. do they kiss.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: 

anteros has either of his other partners which i’m happy with. i suppose kinzteros in a more canon sense and troyteros for more AU stuff. or at least that’s how it seems to usually end up. dex i think would be fine alone. unlike anteros who will explode if he doesn’t have a partner, dex is fine being single and on his own. he’s an independent person. tho if voli somehow came out tomorrow and said dex ended up w a nice husband i’d be happy w that too.

My happily ever after for them:

wouldn’t that be nice……ig just them making it work as best they can. unless anteros retires—which is something that wouldn’t happen for a very long time—i can’t imagine a real like. marriage and house and kids and all that. just not really in the cards for them. honestly that is one of the things i wanna explore post-sriv: what does the future of this relationship look like? both are committed to it, both still madly in love, but is this how it’s always gonna be? anteros missed the point for a normal life a long time ago.

Who is the big spoon/little spoon:

anteros is the big spoon. it’s like a inch height difference and anteros is using that. traps him w his arms and legs. clingy.

What is their favorite non-sexual activity:

talking and getting into arguments, and i mean that sincerely and not in a bad way. as in, getting into discussions about topics bc they’re both insanely academic. especially as they get older, talking about more mundane things like, as you and i have talked about before, arguing over shit like what colors to paint their bedroom walls and getting ultra specific about it. they love it. anteros’ favorite thing in the world is to disagree w dex. dex would be lying if he said he hated having their discussions too. sometimes anteros just plays an overexaggerated devil’s advocate just to get a smirk outta him. it’s fun. they genuinely love it.

also music! listening and singing along. both share a lot of favorite artists and even tho anteros’ taste can get a lil. eccentric. when it comes down to it, there’s nothing better than driving through stilwater at night together, blasting the radio and singing along. also i think dex just has a really nice singing voice so anteros is more than happy to let him take the lead. one of thew few things in this world that’ll make anteros happily be quiet.

i don't add to fandoms. i lower the property value just by being here.

but honestly, i recently wrote and published an anonymous piece, which was received fairly well, i think. i'm not going to make it un-anonymous, but i was pretty surprised by the reception, and i'm happy about it.

i think, technically, the star wars fandom, because i watched it with my parents when i was a child, and about a year and a half ago had a flare-up. wrote the most words i've ever written for any fandom for star wars ✊✊✊

G - Have you ever had an OTP? If so, do you remember your first one? Who was in it?

i... don't know? like i first remember the term being used in, like, the marvel fandom (which i was never active in) and went down a rabbit hole. it was enlightening. but no, i don't think i've had an otp. there's certainly ships that i've liked, and sought out content for, but in the first fandom i was ever tangibly in, i didn't have an otp

I - Has Tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why?

i don't think so. i've lost interest in some fandoms that my mutuals still like, so i normally scroll past that content now, and those would be six of crows, star wars, and stranger things. i'm pretty sure it's gonna happen to ted lasso, too, but i think i've got some time yet!

L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves. (Characters you’re neutral about are fair game, as are characters you merely dislike. oh boy, i've immediately decided to adopt every character as one of my faves. uhhhhh i guess i would have to go with... coach beard? i really enjoy how he's genuinely so weird, and not in a put-on, false way, just being who he is. i think his brief moments of lucidity, where he's very verbose in a way that is comprehensible to the other characters, hit so hard and are meaningful because they are few and far between. i like that he and ted are the two extremes of americanism, in my mind. i like that he uses the fact that other people don't know how to act around him to his advantage, and i try to apply that philosophy to some of my characters in original fiction as well as in my own life. i think it's a terrible shame that he sees jane as the only person who is unafraid to be as weird as him and feels obligated to stay with her because being understood is better than being unhurt and oh jesus christ i think beard is one of my faves now

HOPE PLEASE TALK ABOUT P5R I need to know how you feel about akechi at the end yudkdkfk and I'd also just love to hear your thoughts about the game and the characters in general! also, just to make sure, do you know what you need to do to unlock the extra content at the end of the game? otherwise you might miss it.

WAIT WAIT I was answering your other ask and I never saw this one. what. tumblr straight up did not send me an ask notification 😭

CELE AND I DID ACTUALLY FINISH P5R A FEW WEEKS AGO AND I HAVE SO MANY THOUGHTS, we unlocked all the extra content too, so no worries. somehow on a first try we managed to do most things: every Mementos request, all of the confidants with some free time to spare, and about 80% of the compendium. it'll be hard to put all my thoughts in one post but I'll try and just touch on the main parts!

first of all. Akechi. lmao. I definitely went in expecting to like him, since I've had a lot of mutuals who were very big into shuake from the time I've been into saiou and v3 (I guess they're ship-in-laws of a sort). I wasn't disappointed, because I did like Akechi quite a lot by the end, but I was a bit surprised that he didn't quite give me brainworms the way I expected him to.

if I had to give a character ranking, I think Sumire would be my top fave, followed by Maruki, and then Yusuke. Akechi probably comes right after him, and then I have a harder time ranking the rest (it's probably either Ann or Haru though).

I'm really, really glad we played Royal bc I cannot imagine only playing the original and being satisfied with that. especially when the Shido parts were so frustrating and had some of the weaker writing compared to the rest of the game. the 3rd semester was just such a better way to wrap things up and did a world of good for Akechi's character and fleshing him out a bit.

I really do find the relationship between Akechi and the MC so interesting. like, while I don't think Akechi will ever be quite as high up on my list of characters the way someone like Ouma is, I do think he shines best when it's as a foil for the protagonist. all of that resentment and feeling like things could have been so different if only he'd had the same opportunities or friendships, the whole "two sides of the same coin" thing, I LOVE that sort of thing in my ships. I also really wound up attached to the idea of the royal trio as an ot3 where Sumire and Akechi both just share the MC most of the time, lmao.

everything with the 3rd semester bad ending... I love it so much, those kind of "ideal worlds where something is actually very off and unsatisfying" is right up my alley. I kind of wish the game had gone even further with making the rest of the phantom thieves resist leaving Maruki's world and even getting mad at being told to doubt their own happiness, which was something they apparently touched on in some of the discarded voice files, but then they sadly cut them out and everyone came around pretty easily :(

the main reason I put Yusuke in my top 3 earlier I think is bc he actually gave me more of what I was initially looking for in Akechi's relationship with Shido, but with Madarame instead. I really was expecting the game to touch a lot more on Shido manipulating Akechi or essentially forcing him to become an assassin, you know, really focusing on the whole "kids trapped in their role in society by rotten adults" theme that is so crucial in the game, but there really wasn't... much of that? Shido didn't even know Akechi was his son (other than maybe some suspicions according to his cognitive self, but those didn't ever amount to anything so it's kind of the same) so he barely ever interacted with him outside of an employer-employee context. and Akechi was the one to actually approach him with the idea of murdering people in the Metaverse, so it's like... fkskjdjs agh, everything with Shido just really does frustrate me, I feel like he's got such weak writing but he's also impossible to ignore bc he's such an important part of the game.

meanwhile Yusuke and Madarame's relationship was such a more believably complex picture of abuse and manipulation (it reminded me a lot of Bede and Rose from swsh, lmao). I was actually really shocked at how well everything about the Madarame arc aged; usually Persona games have a few parts of them that don't age well at all, but it was totally the opposite here.

I had kind of gone through the early parts of the game back when it first came out without finishing the whole thing, but I remember thinking at the time that the whole Madarame plagiarism thing felt heavy-handed and too on-the-nose. now, living in an era where topics like art theft and plagiarism and art as nothing more than a soulless means of spitting out money is more relevant than it was 7 years ago... yeah, the Madarame arc just felt surprisingly relevant overall, and Yusuke's conflicting feelings of love and obligation vs. his growing awareness that he's being taken advantage of and seen as a tool was just the icing on top. also his autistic swag. I love him.

as for Sumire and Maruki—the game is so much better for them being in it. Sumire has one of the strongest arcs in any of the 3 "modern" Persona games, not just in 5. I'm usually a firm advocate for "girl they added in the remake game" supremacy (Marie p4g got done so dirty by the fandom and I'll never forgive people, she's a good character), so I was so, so happy that Sumire had such an interesting backstory and complicated relationship with her sister. her identity issues, her struggle with self-confidence, the way she can empathize the best with Maruki's view of the world bc she has also wished to just bury her head in the sand and run away. I love her.

meanwhile Maruki truly is the game's saving grace as an antagonist. Shido was god-awful and Yaldabaoth was, hmm... fine but not quite as interesting or compelling as either Nyx Avatar or (redacted p4 antagonist names bc I don't know if you've played p4 yet), but Maruki wipes the floor with all the other p5 antagonists. his tragic motivations, his fucked-up "I know best" attitude that dismisses human free will and autonomy, I love it. I think something about Maruki altered me and Cele's brains forever, lmao. also the choice to have him as yet another foil to the MC, from their designs (glasses, messy hair, sort of slouched/nondescript posture) to their inability to leave someone in trouble alone without helping them... it's just so interesting. I love you Takuto Maruki you messed-up man with a savior complex.

ANYWAY these were most of my thoughts 😭 I could go on and on even more but I've already rambled a lot! I'm still so mad Tumblr never sent me the message notif for this, I just looked back at my inbox after answering the other one and I was like. WHAT. at some point I really should talk about all my thoughts on the other main phantom thieves too but there are so many of them and I've already written so much fksjsksjsj

MCTNA as a whole was made for me and I love, love the tragic love story between Seon-ho and Hwi that it is. That first episode fast-forward and then when we got to the actual scene THE REVEAL OF WHAT SEON-HO WAS REALLY SAYING? Wow. For part of this drama they definitely are "I can't live with you, I can't live without you", and that's my favourite ship dynamic but also THEY DESERVED TO BE HAPPY and also SEON-HO DESERVED TO BE LOVED but THE ENDING WAS SO PERFECT AND THE ONLY WAY IT COULD'VE ENDED?? this ship really contains multitudes. love them. can't really write for them bc they're already 1000% what i want in my ships.

1,201,484! For a couple years there, I was kind of cranking but now I basically haven't written fic for two years so uh. chilling at 1.2 million

I try to! I used to respond to every comment and then got overwhelmed and fell completely behind and THEN decided to clean house and answer all of the remaining ones...and the next day posted heart + bone and now have uh... 688 AO3 emails sitting in my inbox :') I periodically try to go in and answer at least a handful but honestly it's gotten very sporadic

5. What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

Off hesperus! I don't think I write a lot of true angst or tragedies tbh. But that one was meant to be 100% genuine, no happy endings angst. And admittedly it's not AS bad as it could have been but. it is probably as bad as I am likely to write (unfortunately (?), I left my "kill all your fave characters, make everyone suffer, burn it down!!!" writing vibes back in middle school mostly).

6. What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?

I have so much fluff how am I supposed to pick. ...most of my tgcf fics? heart + bone and sunlight, sunlight, sunlight are pretty absurdly fluffy by the end.

7. Do you write crossovers?

Not really. Back in the olden days (high school/college), I did more—see: whisper something holy, the OG loki fic... I think there were some others?—but it's pretty rare now.

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

ehhh not really hate, just some folks who got lost and wound up mad in the comments that *checks notes* local complexity lover let characters be complex. I just turned off anonymous comments for a while and it was fine

9. Do you write smut?

Sometimes! I tend to write (& draw) smut when I'm stuck in a rut (pun sadly not intended), stressed, and struggling to make things which is. something to know about myself. but also means that it often serves as sort of an on ramp to making art that I care about more and so it's often left unfinished.

10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I don't think so? I have no idea how I'd know but honestly, I think my writing is enough directed toward my interests/wants that it's not a prime candidate for stealing lol

11. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes!! it's so cool!! and if she leads was translated into mandarin which!! is bonkers to me that's so much work

12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I don't think I've ever actually done it. Isaac (@/lemeute) and I have co-developed a few ideas before but I think they went the way of the raccoon poll and sort of died in discord (though the yanqing AU did contribute to me drawing art!)

13. What's your all-time favorite ship?

Ah I really struggle with this. Really high up there, and probably chief in staying power, is Altair/Malik(/& Maria) and then in terms of ones that have sort of rewritten my brain chemistry it's like Stucky, Cartinelli, Cap2 Crew, Ranwan, Hualian, Destiel...uh I'm definitely missing some there but that's a sampler!

uhhhhhhhhhh i hate this question bc my brain is immediately like "here is a laundry list of everything ur bad at and ALSO ur wrong. abt the things ur good at." bc well. mental wellness. ANYWAY i think I'm like ?? pretty good at creating intensity in writing??? I've talked about it before as viscerality and it is that but also like emotional intensity. and I do think I can craft a pretty turn of phrase here and there

well. plot, for one thing. having one? executing one? keeping it consistent without giant holes for everything to fall apart through? nahh. Similarly, continuity overall is! not a strength. Do you know how many notes there are in TCP asking myself to just sketch out a blueprint of the palace where 90% of the first book takes place. can u imagine

17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I think it's something that needs to be done with intent and like. care. like, okay. actually I feel extremely subjective about this. Like on the one hand, I think there are times when I think using another language provides important connotative information that is lost when translating to English* (e.g., Wei Wuxian calling Lan Wangji er-gege or Jiang Yanli shijie which don't have very direct counterparts in English, but also if I were to write about my teacher calling me "chica" rather than "girl"). On the other hand, I think it's very important to be cautious (particularly as a white anglophone) about...like. Seasoning Ur Dialogue with Spicy Bits of Other Languages (I am struck by flashbacks of fanon Lance from VLD. bls.). ON THE THIRD HAND, depending on the POV of the work, writing dialogue in a different language can serve different functions in the text (e.g., if the reader knows what it means but the character doesn't, we can have some nice dramatic irony! when it's done well; if the character knows what it means but the reader doesn't, it can build suspense; if both know what it means, it can give insights into different character dynamics/backgrounds/etc.), but again, it should be done with care and intent.

okay so i went into this game assuming kanerah would be my fave and i was like. ready to finally not have to headcanon a romance and shit. and then this bitch named valerie came along. and oh my god she's such a piece of work. so principled. so hypocritical. so abrasive and easy to rile up. she's loyal because she's decided to be loyal. she turns on you for wanting to kill a guy early in act 2 and then turns BACK on him because he hits on her. she doesnt even realise shes gay. ever since she killed fredero because esteem pushed her to do it ive been thinking about it. ive not read the dialogue for her canon straight romance or whatever because honestly i dont care whatever the fuck im doing to her in my head is way more interesting to me. ive done all the stuff for her hellknight ending and im very excited heehee.

otp: don't have one really for him on this front either-- though i have read a sadie/arthur fanfic and wasn't opposed to it! i didn't finish it either because it was super long. i think i also like the concept of charles & arthur because i played my arthur with high honor and charles is a good influence on arthur & what he ultimately wants to be

brotp: probs with john / sadie, though i really loved arthur's interactions with npcs, like the photo man and the dinosaur woman. i think those times where arthur's humanity really shone through and made me love him instead of looking at him on the surface level as True Macho man. the deconstruction of his facade is probably the reason rdr2 is one of my fave games of all time

notp: much like the bear i don't really think of this media in the context of ships so i'm very much like whatever

first headcanon that pops into my head: much like what i think in the asoiaf fandom, i tend to think that most content divorced from it's original setting makes characters (in this case arthur) less complex, since they're so especially tied to the setting. but i really think if arthur lived in modern times he would be SUCH a great father figure, he's just so innately gentle, especially to kids. i think he would love baking, though this might be because when i was playing rdr i had arthur constantly hunting because i was like... my man feels the need to take care of his Family!!! he is SUCH a caretaker, and it's really sweet.

also i think if he had a kid for some reason it would be cute if everytime he went to lush he would grumble about the smells or whatever, but this kid just gives him a bath bomb and arthur is like... ok this is good but doesn't admit it. arthur loves the small pleasures of life i think but can't really express that either bc he has to seem strong all the time :( i made arthur get baths a lot because i wanted him to take care of himself bc he was so sad, and he looked so happy while taking a bath. aware a lot of the shit i said here is kind of fluffy bullshit but he NEEDS that ok. don't care if its not in line with canon

yes 👏 everything you said, just yes. he's such a goofball and a dork, and just adorable. I've seen people call him 'cringe', and sure he can be, but it's not like the others aren't. I haven't really been involved in the fandom publicly, but from what I've seen he's the only character where people nitpick at his flaws. Again, I haven't really been involved so let me know if this isn't true!

honestly at first he didn't catch my eye (talking about trailers and such) but then I played the game and just absolutely fell in love with him

we’re on a similar page. from what i saw before playing, Jacob didn’t interest me much. i was more excited for Justice Smith bc The G*t Down is one of best shows i’ve ever watched. but now that i’ve finished The Quarry several times over, Jacob has held the Number #1 spot for my favorite character!

he’s such a dork and he really warms my heart. not to mention his serious sides. Jacob has alarmingly low self esteem and abandonment issues that become more apparent the later into the game you get. he’s a really interesting character!

abt the cringe stuff: any Supermassive fan getting on a character for being cringe must’ve been asleep when their other games were released. one of the company’s most well known perks is quirky dialogue so to suddenly have a problem with it now is wild.

so far the biggest group i’ve seen that found Jacob embarrassing are the let’s players who were more focused on pairing Jacob up with Emma, instead of genuinely enjoying the characters as their own people. which is sad bc Emma and Jacob are a lot more than just their former romance.

for example, if you look at the “peanut butter butterpops” dance as Jacob simply trying to woo Emma, then yes it’s a bonafide fail. but if you view it as Jacob being super excited to find a snack he hasn’t seen in years, one he loved so much that he memorized it’s jingle, and is so overjoyed at finding a bag he erupts in unrestrained song and dance, only to grow even MORE excited at the idea of introducing said snack to someone who’s never had it before, then the moment comes off as endearing and tooth achingly sweet.

abt the nitpick stuff: tbf i don’t think Jacob is the only character that gets picked on:

Ryan definitely does, like a horrendous amount. most of the times i’ve seen ppl praise his character is just when they ship him with Dylan. and even THEN sometimes ppl will say comments like “Dylan deserves so much better tho, poor guy”. Ryan gets shat on a lot and it’s very uncalled for imo.

as does Emma. ppl hated her island vlogging and call her all types of insults for the way she went abt the dare. which is unfair bc there’s tons of moments where Emma’s deeper personality shines. she’s very concerned for the well being of animals and only wants to make ppl as happy as she can. she is not just “The Girl Who Kissed Her Best Friend’s Crush”™️. she’s fleshed out and deserves her props.

and then there’s that “sociopath/secretly abusive Nick” thing going around. i’ll admit i thought it had merit for a short while, but i’ve come to realize it doesn’t, not as much as ppl think it does anyway.

i believe the only ones who are solid fan faves are Dylan and Kaitlyn. 90% of the fanbase loves Laura, but debate whether she took up too much screentime in Chapter 7 or not. i love Laura but i’m part of the group that agrees her story shouldve either been spread out more or saved for a DLC.

1 Non-larrie queer harry anon again, I’m not sure bc i wasn’t in larrie fandom back then but i would imagine a large part oft he trajectory was the same but ofc also impacted by the point in time i joined. Like i had heard the term ‚larry‘ and when i started watching videos of 1d i assumed for quite some time that larry must mean harry and liam. I was a bit confused since i didn’t really see it but harry and louis never even crossed my mind tbh since at that point they were barely interacting in

Then ofc i learned more about larry and also looked at compilations of ‚proof‘ amd timelines and everything that was floating around but none of that made me believe in larry hence the non larrie. Maybe to put everything a bit in perspective, niall was my fave back then, but i also liked harry and both of them interacting (the this is us interviews were big part of me becoming a fan), so narries were big part of my fandom experience although none believed they were seriously dating

3 it was more about shipping fun. I also lost a lot of my interest in harry in the last 2 years, but i find myself feeling different about most celebs than pre-pandemic in general, so i‘m not sure much about it is down to that and how much to harry himself. Plus it has been 8 years so i prob forgot a lot.I think the main thing that powered the trajectory were harrys remarks in the four promo run. That was something that made ppl go ‚oh?‘. and then other things existed in context to that,

Thanks so much for your thoughts anon - I thought they were really interesting. I was super new in fandom at that point, and spent all my time within the Larrie fandom. And in Larrie fandom it was talked about as if the only options were Larries and antis. And I quickly realised that antis were a small group and most people didn't care as much as that. But I didn't explore the rest of the fandom that much.

So it's really interesting to see how other parts of the fandom navigated all this.

And what stands out most about this to me, is how many ways there are of doing fandom, that aren't over invested in the idea that we can and do know what's actually going on. It's a really good reminder.

I'm 100% behind you in terms of your right to dislike the friendship and I think it's perfectly okay to not want the two to have anything with each other. To say there's a lot of baggage there would be to put it mildly and the show seeing nothing wrong with, you know, the outing of it all, just makes it worse. I totally get why you'd say that.

With that said, and with your assessment of my feelings on Finn and Santana individually being correct, I kinda like it. But in that complicated sort of way that usually categorizes my feelings on anything Glee-related. Out of all my Santana bro ships I'd rank Finntana pretty low but like with most Glee dynamics I wish we saw more of them as friends.

Have only been thinking about this for five minutes but I think there are two aspects to it, for me: one is the thematic importance of their stories and the other is just me wishing everyone was friends and wanting fiction, at least, to be happy. The first one is easier to explain, though I could go into more detail at a later time if anyone would like to have that discussion. Basically, I think Finntana can be really fascinating narrative foils and parallels at different points in their stories. All the ~popular kids~ interconnect thematically imo and with Finntana it's mostly a contrast that then slowly turns into a parallel in late season 3 with neither knowing what the future holds. So I think it would have been neat to explore that and maybe have some scenes between the two in season 4.

The second, I mean, look. I always try to make it clear that Finn pisses me off so, so much even beyond the outing but if I wanna be honest, that is the one thing I just cannot get past. So my way of coping with the travesty that was IKAG and the narrative pretending like it never happened in terms of their friendship is wishing they had an actual friendship. And that's hard to reconcile with actual canon but the alternative is loathing every interaction they have. Which, to be clear, is a valid perspective to have and I don't blame you for feeling that way.

I think part of me wanting this friendship is also the fiction part like I said, which is a) appreciating the friendship Naya and Cory had and wishing it translated. And b) if human connection can't always persevere in real life then let it do so in fiction. What I mean by that is that Finn and Santana are, canonically, two people who have used and hurt each other. They have mutually caused each other pain, on varying levels, and while that's Not Great I am a big believer in forgiveness and learning to love people despite whatever might have happened in the past. So in my ideal Glee world, Finn and Santana would not only have come to a mutual understanding because of their arcs paralleling but because they're both making the conscious effort to forgive, do things to be worthy of that forgiveness, and heal together. I like to believe in the power of moving forward.

I think there could be beauty in that, narratively, and I'm assuming people find comfort in viewing Naya and Cory's characters as friends. But once again I do get what you're saying and with everything that went down between Finn and Santana, it's valid that some don't want the two to have anything to do with each other. What's comforting to some can be infuriating to others. I've seen fics before where Finntana were friends but in a way I don't vibe with, such as following the show's logic and saying Finn was actually showing he cared by outing her. Instead of dealing with the fact that he wasn't, actually. So anyway it is a complex topic and as always the best we can do is just accept all perspectives. I certainly see yours. Just for me, personally, one of the only things keeping me from finding Finn completely unbearable is pretending that there's a Glee timeline out there where this friendship could have worked.
