My second tarnished oc, Rem. He usually wears the nightmaiden twin crown, but I wanted to draw his face unobstructed. His lore is super meaty and I'm quite happy with it!
Rem is a descendant of the Nox, people of the Eternal Cities. He was raised in Sellia, well versed in Night sorceries and taught melee combat by his 'sisters', Nightmaidens who warden over the town. His days are spent rigorously training his body and mind, honing himself into a warrior capable of subduing the most formidable of foes. Easily identified by both his silvery skin and hair, Rem appears more Silver Tear than anything, yet his golden eyes speak of his heritage, which he is incredibly proud of. And it is perhaps because of his heritage that Rem holds very little love for the Two Fingers and the Golden Order.
Rem had been fortunate enough to meet General Radahn in his youth, and had been privy to the demigod studying gravity sorceries. He grows to admire the flame haired demigod and leaves the Sellian territories for the first time when he offers his services to the General, as both sorcerer and swordsman. He stood among the Red Mane soldiers in battle, dressed in the silks of the Nox, looking elegant as a dancer yet fighting with all the ferocity of a beast. His end is met like many others in the Caelid wilds: witness to the scarlet flower bloom, particles of rot saturating the sky, clogging the beauty of the stars.
He wakes after centuries, called back from a peaceful void to return to the Lands Between. His memories are muddled, mostly lost, but through adventuring he remembers himself, for better or worse. He remembers that wretched flower, and he seeks a power strong enough to oppose it.
Rem is an extremely quiet and emotionally guarded tarnished who borders on selectively mute, speaking little more than he has to. He makes very few connections but is not unwilling to cooperate with his fellows, seeing such actions as a great way to garner much needed knowledge. He gauges everything like a threat but closely safeguards those who win his trust and affection, albeit from the shadows.
Beneath his guarded exterior is a deep longing to return to a home no longer there. Caelid is a fetid wasteland and nightmarish shadow of what it once was, and it is the only time that he openly expresses deep pain upon seeing the remains of a land he once loved so dearly. It hurts more than he can bear to know that Radahn lives as Caelid does--as a shell of his former self. He does not hesitate to participate in the Festival, seeing it as a final act of kindness for his beloved General. It is a hard fought battle, but Rem leaves with Radahn's blades as his trophy, swearing to wield the colossal weapons in battle.
Though Rem was raised in a town of sorcery and has proficiency with night magics, his greatest strength comes from physical prowess. He wields all manner of great swords and colossal blades, overwhelming his foes with sheer strength and relentlessness. He embodies duality, using stealth, life sapping mist and poison to turn the tide of what could have been a heavily skewed battle. He does not see underhanded tactics as something to frown upon. After all, combat (and life) does not play fair. Aside from sorceries, Rem has studied incantations on a surface level, enough to know hos to cast a poisonous mist or mend his injuries.
Rem's loyalty to the red haired demigod is akin to a love that is all consuming. It was a love that felt unrequited, but his unwavering belief and devotion to honing himself into the perfect weapon caught the interest of the towering Radahn. They seemed an unconventional pair, but they both bonded quite easily through combat and a shared love of animals. Leonard, Radahn's steed, received many a rowa berry and nose pats from Rem.
He felt as though he lost Radahn twice over. Once, against the one-armed valkyrie and her scarlet rot, and a second time at his own hand. Though it was a mercy, to grant his beloved demigod a warrior's end, a part of him died again with the General. The loss is an ever present ache that leads to the nihilistic belief that nothing in the Lands is worth salvaging.
The pain of loss and his keen awareness of the loss of many others drives Rem down the path of becoming the Lord of the Frenzied Flame. He does so, not to spare Melina from a fiery end, but to bring an end to it all, to be the Lord of the lost and the broken. To put to rest all that distinguishes and divides, hoping that perhaps the flames will consume him too.

On the Nature of Tarnished Souls || The Battle of Malenia and General Radahn
“And now Caelid has been engulfed by the scarlet rot, even approaching the region is no mean feat. I've heard survivors of Radahn's army are still in the wilds, staving off the rot with fire. And if it's true, I suspect Radahn is still there as well, in Caelid. Though I doubt he much resembles his former self anymore...”
What chapter should this be?
I have noticed a lot of my friends on instagram hide their like count... and while I generally try to avoid getting too sucked into chasing numbers, it does bother me a bit at times since it feels like some kind of wider change happened due to that "ever so elusive Instagram algorithm". I'm going to have to focus a bit more on the real world rather than making any drastic changes online. Sorry if I'm technically following you but not interacting as much. I actually do feel that I use the app more yet friends that only sporadically post seem to get pushed down. Stay creative folks. I hope that my social medias and websites, are a nice experience for all of you.

Millicent's Sisters Theory(?)
Obligatory "this is 10% theory and 90% headcanon."
This started as a discussion with @thatboreddrake about the Egyptian concept of the soul. By my surface-level understanding, there are five parts: Ren is your name, your true name which encapsulates your identity, Ka is your living essence, your life force, Ib is the heart or the seat of the soul, the part of you that is judged upon death, Ba is the thing that makes you "you," your personality and reputation, and Sheut is your shadow, or the mark that you leave on the world.
Drake suggested that Millicent carries Malenia's Ba, her pride, her sense of self, the thing that made her herself. Meanwhile Malenia has been left with only her Ren, her name. Hence why she repeats her "I am Malenia, Blade of Miquella" mantra with every battle. It's the last part of herself she has left.
However, that presents a problem -- only the Ka, the Ib, and the Sheut remain, but there are four sisters to account for.
Although we don't know much about the sisters, I'm going to take my best guess based on their only real differentiating characteristics -- their weapons.
Amy bears the same blade as Malenia's teacher, the blind swordsman. I think the Sheut would fit her best. Just as the shadow the swordsman cast upon the world lives on in Malenia, Malenia's shadow lives on in Amy. I was also thinking about their names. While three out of five have "M" names like Malenia, Amy and Polyanna stick out. Then I realized that "Amy" might be a reference to "Aeonia," as in the Aeonian Bloom, the most obvious and ever-present shadow that Malenia cast upon the world.
Although there's less of a solid connection here, I'd link Mary (wields a Cleanrot Commander's Halo Scythe) with the Ka (living essence), as her weapon represents Malenia's life's work as the defender of the Haligtree. And I'd associate Maureen (wields a Golden Order Treespear) with the Ib (the heart which carries the weight of one's sins and is judged upon death).
By just about every metric, Polyanna is the odd man out. Her name doesn't fit with the others at all. She is the only one we can interact with as an ally. And she's specifically referred to as an "adopted daughter."
At first I just assumed this to mean that she's Gowry's adopted daughter, drawn from the swamp and raised like the rest. But when the sisters all show up together, they're labeled by birth order. And given that Gowry is a representative of the pest hivemind, a race born entirely from the Scarlet Rot, it could be argued that he's the closest thing the sisters will ever have to a biological father.
So here's where I abandon all pretense of evidence and dip into pure headcanon.
What if Polyanna is not Millicent's (or the others') biological sister? Sure, they all look similar, but could she be a different relation?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is it just me, or does Malenia look a lot like her dad? Not just the hair, but her lips, her cheekbones, and her nose.
So the sisters (including Polyanna) take after Malenia. But it's fair to say they also take after Radagon a bit. Maybe Polyanna isn't their biological sister. Maybe she's their cousin, via another of Radagon's children.
Put yourself in Radahn's shoes for a moment. You go soft no-contact with your toxic family. You move to the furthest reaches of the Caelid Wilds to start your own fiefdom. As the family feud seems to be getting ready for another round, you meet someone and get married. Would you maybe be reluctant to tell your scheming siblings, your genocidal stepmother, your backstabbing father, and your dubiously trustworthy half-siblings that you now have a wife and a baby on the way?
It would add so much context to Radahn's impossible defense of Sellia and his oath of honorable death with Jerran if the big guy had a family of his own in Caelid. It would explain his half of the Aeonia clusterfrick -- Malenia refused to hold back because her twin senses told her Miquella was imprisoned in Caelid. Radahn refused to hold back because he was protecting his new family. As much as both may have hated to assume the worst of the other, neither felt that they could afford to take chances.
When the population of Caelid becomes afflicted with Scarlet Rot, Sellia becomes a ghost town, and Polyanna becomes one of many orphans left behind, Gowry takes her in because hey, you never know when a half-demigod might be useful.
It would explain why he sends her to help the Tarnished against O'Neill. While the other three sisters are potential vectors for a Bloom if Millicent fails, Polyanna would be essentially expendable to him.

-- Why Did Godfrey's Campaign End Before Caelid? --
Hello,
A safe bet, it will be, I believe, that the eventual Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for Elden Ring will take place in Caelid.
For one, judging by the relative location of the 'Shadow of the Erdtree' itself to where we see Miquella. That Shadow is a far distance forward and to the left.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Comparing spots from the game's map, the only regions that reasonably allow for this kind of angle are Caelid, and the Southern half of Liurnia.
Since Miquella himself is currently *under* Caelid, that should make the Wilds more likely out of the two.
The secondary reason is the real-life one: Will it really be that FromSoft WON'T show us what Caelid originally looked like? A place whose pieces on the map are made to look damaged, and where its entire character as a region is that it was defaced by the Scarlet Rot!?
I will be shocked if it is...!
And with this proposal in mind, I think there's a lot to be considered regarding the region of Caelid as it originally was.
To start, there is a considerable amount of evidence that Caelid was originally a desert. Alike to the ones in the Southern US or Australia.
The dead ordinary trees in Caelid find their match in Faram Azula:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
By the Faram Greatbridge and the Bestial Sanctum it is shown that Faram had had a direct presence in Caelid, so this itself makes sense.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So of note is the kinds of trees themselves found growing in Caelid in the first place. Gnarled and with thin leaves, a friend @slavonicrhapsody described them as alike to trees like mesquite trees. And I think they're right.
Tumblr media
Not that the trees in Caelid and Faram Azula are *literally* mesquite trees. (Though imagine if something so specific was ever actually revealed lmao) but that they're like mesquite trees: They're evolved to survive in an arid region.
Also found (everywhere) in the Lands Between are tumbleweeds. Those things are fucked up. And since they're *there*, certainly, they've had to originally come from *somewhere,* right? Why not Caelid? It would fit with the other trees we see.
And, for these trees and tumbleweeds, the only way it would make sense for them to have come from Caelid would be, if the region hadn't originally been a swamp.
Tumblr media
The shores of the Swamp of Aeonia are, notably for a swamp, made of yellow sand. If we compare similar shores, assuming that the Swamp of Aeonia was originally a lake--with Caelid being at a similar elevation to both of these place, as well as being directly connected to Limgrave, this proves unique.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The same brown mud texture is used for the shores of both Liurnia Lake and Agheel Lake.
And anyway real swamps aren't made out of sand in the first place. Nor are they yellow. They're made out of like black peat and stuff from all the organic material that dissolves in them.
Caelid, however, only yellow sand all the into the Heart of Aeonia.
Tumblr media
Yellow sand, by the way, comes from the iron in it being exposed to the air and oxidizing. Dry beaches and deserts, where exposure to the air happens a lot, are thus where sand is yellow all the time. But in a SWAMP...!? That's exactly where soil touching oxygen DOESN'T happen!!
The muck you're traversing when making Torrent deal with the Swamp of Aeonia are the polluted remnants of a destroyed desert! As if the very scarlet rot nuked out by Malenia is terraforming the land into an environment optimized for that rot to propagate. Exactly alike as to what we see's been done to the Altus Plateau. (As shown in Episode 1 of Elden Ring Explained with Snake-Eyes Teieruji)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The caves in Caelid are also unambiguously filled with sand.
Which is perhaps a little more obvious.
Tumblr media
With the question of *why* Caelid *would* be a desert, in the first place, having a very easy excuse: The Dragonbarrow!
Of extra note is how the map item for the area tells us that the Dragonbarrow is merely it's *new* name on account of Greyoll staking her claim over it in response to the Scarlet Rot.
So we don't actually know what the region's original name was.
But what the "plateau to Caelid's north" *would* do, would be casting it in its rainshadow. As seen when we're there, the Dragonbarrow has rain like all the fucking time, has a larger amount and concentration of trees there, and is the only spot in Caelid where there's a natural body of water. (The pond where you actually find the map item in)
*By* its elevation, then, the Dragonbarrow would've been the landform depriving Caelid of moisture in the first place.
With what rain the lower region did get being funneled into the likes of this Grand Canyon instead!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So that's what Caelid had been! An arid desert of yellow sands and tumbleweeds. Appropriate, perhaps, if the Regalia of Eochaid being only accessible through the Gaol Cave indicates the the long-gone realm of Eochaid itself, a region of "proud solitary ascetics" as Elemer's equipment informs us, was originally in Caelid!
Maliketh is also from New Mexico, although that's for unrelated reasons.
Recall also how Godfrey's campaign involved the invasions of Limgrave and the Weeping Peninsula, but stopped right at the edge of Caelid: As the Sword Memorial near Smoldering Church outright tells us:
"Lord Godfrey, at last at the end of his campaign His golden armies unvanquished and unbowed Yet finds grace lost, tattered and faded"
What was his problem with Caelid!? Why was his campaign finished *before* Caelid? He'll kill everyone in Limgrave and the fucking Weeping Peninsula but not the same for here? Why didn't Marika's empire want Caelid!? Was it just not good enough for them to be worth it?
With the answer to be proven seeming "yes, it wasn't."
Caelid itself is referred to as the "Caelid Wilds" multiple times across the game. Further referring to how it was ignored during the Age of the Erdtree.
Understanding Caelid to have originally been an arid desert, it's easy to presume why. Why forsake so much money and men to control an oversized region not likely to have been unified like Limgrave and Liurnia were, that was also just a bunch of sand!
Right!?
If so, then. With Caelid *being* a desert. That during the time of Godfrey, was seen as not worth subjugating.
What changed for when Radahn came there?
All of the information we're currently given about Radahn are of when he became the Starscourge during the course of the Shattering. But as we hear from the intro cutscene to Morgott's boss fight, it was *when* Radahn became the Starscourge, that he was *already* a General.
Ostensibly, the Red Lion General earned his title from his activity in Caelid. So,
like,
what did he do there?
What *was* there, *for* him to do, even?
That was evidently *not* there, worth doing, during the time that Godfrey himself had actually been Elden Lord?
The only other place we find the skulls of giants is in Caelid, after all...!?
So when the DLC is finally released, I'm very keen on what we'll find out about Radahn and his "younger days."
...
...
...
Oh yeah and the place we fight Radahn in is called the Wailing Dunes. "Dunes," for a place that is ginormous enough (it's literally bigger than Southern Caelid) that it's obviously not just a beach.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A more thorough view of what Caelid holds (the Formless Serpents, for one.) will be shown in a future episode of ERwSET.
In the meanwhile, email me questions to answer in the OF's Kinda-Monthly Newsletter! I've only gotten 2, and decent questions they are, sure, but I want more...!!
You can find my email in the pinned post of this blog.
Any topic! Whatsoever! And don't forget to sign yourself off with a pen-name, too.

Sir Vecher, the Midnight Blade
Sir Vecher was once a proud knight of the Golden Order, fighting under Lord Godfrey in the latter years of his conquest of the Lands Between. He was present at the surrender of Castle Stormveil and participated in the siege of Castle Morne. As such, he was absent from the Royal Capital during the events of the Blackflame Rebellion.
Expecting to be received into Leyndell as a conquering hero, praise showered upon him by the citizenry, Vecher and his Lord were instead met by a city reeling from a devastating siege. Queen Marika, the Eternal could no longer allow those who held loyalty to aught but her to remain in her service. Lamentably, this included the forces of Lord Godfrey who followed him in venerating the primordial Crucible, from which all life originates.
Thus, Lord Godfrey and his army became the first Tarnished, banished from the Lands Between to fight and die. Nonetheless, one ship was left behind. Vecher and a contingent of knights elected to remain, never to return to their home, yet unwilling to abandon those they had sworn to protect. For though they had entered Limgrave as conquerors, they had brought peace to these lands which otherwise might have fallen to the hands of rival warlords.
Cut off as they were from any support, these knights fought a long, grinding war of attrition against bandits, highwaymen, and raiders from the neighboring Caelid. Though they obtained respite with General Radahn's conquest of the Caelid Wilds and Godefroy's rule of Stormveil, it was too late for many of Vecher's comrades. When the armies of Caelid and Stormveil marched to lay siege to Leyndell, Vecher remained behind. He watched as Radahn and Godfrey retreated, battered and broken. He stood by as Malenia and her Cleanrot Knights marched on Radahn's holdings in Caelid, content to guard the Hero's Grave where so many of his comrades were laid to rest.
In the following years, Vecher experienced something almost akin to true peace, for the belligerents had battered each other to within an inch of their lives and subsequently retreated to lick their wounds. Despite this, Vecher began to despair; he had received no word of the fate of the Royal Capital, and so he believed that the world he had come to know had truly met its end. It was then that he encountered a wanderer on the road, cloaked in a tattered robe, yet carrying himself with righteous determination. He cared not that the traveler was an Omen. After all, he remembered a time when Omens were not a curse, but a blessing from the Crucible.
The wanderer introduced himself as Morgott, son of Godfrey, Lord of Leyndell. Vecher knelt and swore fealty to the Omen, who he perceived was the true heir of Lord Godfrey. After training under Sir Benadur, Vecher took on the mantle of the Night's Cavalry. Following Morgott's command, Vecher once more took up his post in Limgrave, ever vigilant against the return of the Tarnished who would once more bring turmoil to the Lands Between. At long last, he had found redemption. At long last, he had found a leader who could once more unite the Lands Between.

Tarnished - Zu'Sdan
Age: Aged Origin: Warrior Build: Int/Dex
A nomad, everflowing and unbroken, drifting through the Lands Between. Following in the footsteps of the Blind Swordsman, staving off the influence of the God of Rot. After Malenia lost her wits, succumbing to the festering decay within her, the Rot's advances grow vigorously. As the Blind Swordsman's tale ceases to be, the Tarnished strives to uphold the Swordman's presence in hopes of the returning the Demigod to her true self. With the Aeonian flower blooming and the Scarlet Rot thriving throughout the Caelid Wilds, the volatile nature of this decay must be met with a rampant surge to put an end to its furtherance. Despite its torturous temperament on life in the Lands Between, there is beauty within the Rot. That is why it must be challenged.

was touring around the haligtree and elphael last night, and noticed that the doors to the prayer room have a unique design- depicting the face of a baby at the top, the face of a mature person in the middle, and a skull at the bottom. down at the base of the haligtree’s brace, there’s also these wall engravings of like, a demon sitting on a rod? i didn’t get a close look at it because i was killed by a revenant. the statues of knights near the church commandeered by the pests also show a baby hanging off of their leg. speaking of the pests- they seem to be using the buried haligtree denizens in their birthing rituals? as in outside that church in the graveyard, on one side of it it’s just pests in prayer and baby pests also in prayer at the graves. this seems similar to the scene at caelid waypoint ruins, where a servant of rot was overseeing the birth of pests from upturned coffins. on the otherside of the graveyard, it’s just haligtree knights kneeling and paying respects to the fallen though. it’s like… sort of wild that the pests have just taken a portion of the graveyard and are now using the corpses there presumably.
also, idk about this, but i wonder if the design of the “rooms” in haligtree town (above in the branches) are representative of seeds? like that kind of open curved wall and roof with the carved root design looks similar to golden seeds.
anyway a lot of people seem to think miquella would go on to create another age of abundance, similar to the erdtree’s beginning, but like there’s just so much value placed both on birth, rebirth, and death also. it’s veneration of the whole cycle.
also a bit unsure about the hooded figure holding a nail near roots that’s constant in elphael. who is that. what is that

Elden Ring Drafts 3/3: Wizard of Oz Themes
The "easy" ones to pick out are Ranni as Dorothy/Witch of the West, Seluvis as Scarecrow, Blaidd as Toto/Lion, Iji as Tinman/Lion, Darriwil as Tinman/Toto. "Easy" being relative as this deconstruction of the characters is only easiest to notice because it is the most recent iteration of the Oz crew. See Fia and her 5 Champions for another deconstruction.
Or, see Marika and her "little dog" Maliketh. Marika the Numen from outside the Lands Between who "fell from a star" just as Dorothy did (more directly, the Elden Beast is stated to have arrived on a golden star). Hoarah Loux carries an axe as the Tinman did, and takes the mantle of a Lion. It is not too wild a leap to guess that he was engaged in hunting Monstrous Crows in the badlands (a Scarer of Crows) before taking off to be Marika's champion.
Deeper review reveals that Marika/Miquella/Trina share quite a few traits with Princess Ozma/Tip. A twister did pick up Farum Azula into the sky, a witch (Chelona) did have a house dropped on her (look up the tortoise myth), and the Flame Chariots would like us to pay no attention to the little man behind the curtain. The gold-stamped brick road extends throughout the Lands Between from Caelid to Leyndell, and the sorcerer crowns have coloured lenses reminiscent of the green-tinted glasses that visitors to the Emerald City were made to wear.
Also Professor Marvel in the movie is wearing a symbol much like the Elden Ring on his turban. This alone means very little considering how three overlapping rings is a common symbol for trinities in mysticism. But given how strong the Wizard of Oz theme is? Dorothy wasn't the only native of Kansas iesekai-ed to Oz. Radagon = Marika = the Elden Ring = Professor Marvel = the Wizard of Oz.

Malenia; Goddess of Rot
Disclaimer: Please do not fill the reblogs of this post with ethics drama or anything of this like. That is NOT what this post is for.
Malenia is heralded as one of the most controversial bosses in Soulsborne history, along with this her character is one of great contention. Some believe she is evil, while others believe she is innocent in her transformation of the Caelid wilds.
Tumblr media
History of Malenia
Malenia is the daughter of Radagon and Queen Marika. She was born along with her twin brother Miquella in an odd birth. Both children were born with severe afflictions, Malenia with the curse of scarlet rot and Miquella with eternal childhood. As well, both of the children were assigned the Empyrean title, those who have the potential to succeed Queen Marika.
As to why Malenia and Miquella were chosen for this affliction is unknown, it's possible it was punishment or a cruel jest by the outer god this affliction stems from.
Miquella spent most of his life figuring out a cure for his sister's affliction. During this, Malenia trained with a notable Noxian swordsman who trained her in sword and special flowing techniques. (Source: Prosthetsis-Wearer Heirloom)
Quite some time after this, the shattering occurred and soon came a war like no other. In this war, the last two to still be fighting were Radahn and Malenia, the two most powerful demigods. Once at a stalemate, Malenia stabbed into herself atop Radahn and soon bloomed into her Scarlet Aeonia.
This sole action transformed the entirety of Caelid into a transformed and rot ridden land as well as turning Radahn into a madman. The flora was turned into large blossoming plants and a swamp formed that arose beings that started to praise Malenia. As well as these bug-like creatures spawned five to six humans who were considered the daughters of Malenia. They were adults when created presumably, they share Malenia's rot infliction and also share her sword knowledge and unmistakably, look like Malenia herself.
Before the Caelid battle, Malenia and Miquella decided to abandon the Golden Order. Miquella losing faith once his attempts to heal Malenia with fundamentalism failed. Now deciding to head into the north and create a haven for those outcast, he attempted to create a Erdtree of his own. A town surround the budding tree was created name Elphael (God's Work in Hebrew). To continue growing the tree, Miquella embedded himself into the base of the tree. Though, during this, Mohg, a fellow child of Marika stole Miquella out of his cocoon, taking him to the Mohgwyn Palace to attempt to birth him into a God.
After Malenia returned, she was grief-stricken and since the event, has sit besides the roots awaiting her brother's return. However, this never happens and she ends up blooming once more into a Goddess. And once defeated, she sits inside of a cocoon of her own, awaiting another bloom.
Malenia's Power
Malenia has the power to corrupt the things around her once she blooms. However, it seems she can only bloom three times until she turns into a true Goddess. (Source: Scarlet Aeonia)
But, it's not clear if our fight with her is the second or third since her title in the second phase, is Goddess. But, it's not clear. Regardless, her blooms and the blooms of her children are keys to becoming divinities or more powerful creatures. Given Malenia's first bloom in Caelid, it's unknown if she was aware of her ability then and there.
Given what we see in the story trailer, she somewhat intentionally goes atop Radahn and whispers something. Most likely akin to something her mentor taught her. Then she blooms and to say she expected the result would most definitely be a lie. Would you think anyone would realistically do that if they knew the end result would essentially be a poisonous place to live? It's most likely she knew she could perform the move but had no idea of the result. This is helped by her clearly disowning and disturbed by the praising of the creatures that arose from the swamp.
As well as this, it seems she only used this power as an absolute ultimatum. She and Radahn had been fighting for who knows how long and she only thought to end it with this method. Same with her fight, she only used it when she thought she was going to die.
Is Malenia Evil?
I feel the issue with this misunderstanding is due to the nature of souls games and not giving some characters fully explained thoughts and other kinds of stuff.
As we know, some characters get dialogue that explains their thoughts, like Melina. However, Malenia gets only the dialogue in her fight which has nothing to even do with Radahn. And most of her item descriptions have nothing to do with how she feels. Only explaining with her mentor, was she able to learn a graceful style of fighting and it helped her in controlling her rot.
If you want an answer that is concise. No, she is not evil. But, as expected it is also much more complicated. We may have to wait until DLC for a proper answer but given the nature of souls DLC, we won't really get anything specific. I believe Malenia knew what she was doing to an extent. She is presumably the only person to have such an affliction prior to her birth. So the effects of her bloom were not known, especially the maddening affects of the rot.

I have a feeling Radahn gets sicker if he eats those Caelid mushrooms. Considering how the Giant Crayfishes were meant to tell you to clean your shellfishes more carefully
Radahn's mushroom eating means "don't fucking eat wild plants you found lying around"
Yeah absolutely, I know some of those Caelid shrooms would have you tripping Elden Balls by the looks of them

I keep thinking about how Millicent and her sisters would interact if they sorted out their differences and stopped trying to kill each other.
I mean, they'd still be sisters. Roughly college-aged sisters? At least half-feral (raised in the Caelid Wilds by shrimp), some percentage of Malenia, armed and dangerous?
I can only assume they get into some pretty epic fights over some pretty stupid arguments.

Millicent tries to talk Maureen out of Dumb Idea.
Just as Millicent is starting to talk her around, Mary chips in, still being condescending.
Maureen now wants to fight Millicent.
Pollyanna knows that Millicent and Mary tend to be right about these things, but also Dumb Idea sounds fun?
Amy is now agreeing with Mary, in the hopes of seeing a Millicent v. Maureen fight.
Mary continues yelling at no one in particular.
Pollyanna starts yelling back.
Maureen now wants to fight Mary again.
Amy asks Mary if she's going to take that?
Without missing a beat, Millicent turns around and clocks Amy. It's a free-for-all from there.
Five minutes later when Malenia arrives to check on the commotion, they're all chilling in various states of injury. Nothing happened, they swear.

“O Brother, Lord Brother, I shall grant thee a true death.”
Godwyn has been revived, but has not unbound the rune of death and brought about the age of duskborn yet. He’s is on the quest to search for his elusive brother Mohg that hides deep under ground. What he finds devastates him.
Characters: Godwyn, Miquella, and Mohg.
Disclaimer: There is no Mohg x Miquella shipping here. We don’t support that shit, sis. This is also using a personal HC of Godwyn, The Prince of Death after being revived. No, he doesn’t look like a fish. He’s human, just a little dead looking.
Trigger warnings: Blood, suggestions of violence, death, being held hostage, creepy crawly roots, creepy eyes.
After receiving hints about where his brother Mohg went after leaving the Shunning Grounds, Godwyn worked on expanding his deathroot further underground. There were plenty of roots to be had underground within the Deep Root Depths, there was no problem in expanding from there. His roots would slowly reach Nokron, and soon enough would seep their way down to the Siofra river. Eyes would later form on these large roots that now marked the lands, a new set of eyes for Godwyn to use to scout these newly found lands.
So far, he wasn’t successful. He was informed that his brother was now the so-called “Lord of Blood”. He was to expect a land of blood to know if he was close. So far, he could find no hint of blood within the area of Nokron or Siofra. The Ansel River was showing no promise either, considering the river is still water and not blood. He was stumped for several days, working on developing the deathroot within Siofra and Nokron further in hopes of being able to visually scout a new route. It would be a several-week process, each day feeling slightly less enthusiastic and hopeful about it. But as soon as it was done, and he looked once more he took several glances at the grounds. He then glanced back towards Nokron, and then he looked to where Nokron was facing, and… oh boy, did he find what he was looking for.
A mausoleum stood high above a cliff. An eerie red hue surrounded it. Although he didn’t see a speck of blood surrounding it, he just knew that mausoleum had to be what he was looking for. His deathroot began to spread again with more haste, only to stop when it would come across the chasm that divided Siofra to Mohgwyn’s Dynasty of Blood. After what was probably several days of frustration and wracking his brain, he retracted the root to begin the journey of going up toward the surface. He knew it would be a much longer and harder task, but since he saw no other way of reaching it he made the difficult trek. It would turn out much more difficult than he originally thought, after possibly a month or more of climbing up to breach the surface, he would find out his deathroot was in the Caelid Wilds. A slight advantage, as he already had deathroot rooted there. He could simply link up with the ones further in Caelid and start digging down, but that also meant the Mausoleum was possibly in under the more dangerous parts of Caelid, likely under the swamps of rot.
He had gotten this far, he wasn’t willing to throw in the towel. Slowly, and carefully, he would link up with the deathroot that was further into Caelid, including some deep in the swamps, and begin the slow and careful descent back down. Another month passes, but soon enough his roots find air again just above the dynasty. He allows them to slink further down until they touch the surface. Some of his deathroot does not survive long after impact, as he could feel large birds that were similar to the Caelid birds swoop in to tear them apart. They would eventually die when the mist of death blight would infect them, but at that point, a majority of his deathroot had succumbed to the forces of the denizens within Mohgwyn Dynasty. Some of them were birds, some of them 2nd generation Albanaurics, and others were oddly white-masked individuals but those were quite rare.
He focuses on the roots that hung above the mausoleum, allowing them to hit the stone floors and take root. Now all he needed to do was wait for his eyes to fully develop so he can take a good look at the area around him. All he could do now it just stay vigilant and continue growing branches of deathroot if it were to be attacked.
It wouldn’t take long for a sense of dread to wash over him during the next several weeks. How will his brother react to the deathroot now surrounding his dynasty? What will he see there once he takes a gander for the first time? Will he see his brother there? How come nobody has tried to mess with the deathroot around the mausoleum yet? Is Mohg dead? Has he gone somewhere else? Was this all for nothing?
The moment he could get a clear view of the mausoleum inside with the eyes of his death root, he would immediately jump in to get a good look. So far? Nothing. It was a dusty old mausoleum littered with headstones, the most normal part of it all. The mausoleum was well-lit as if it was occupied or busy. Then his glance would move along the narrow path upwards toward the back of the Mausoleum. There he would see what looked to be a huge fiber-like egg with a gigantic rip along the middle. It sat on top of a large pelvic bone, unsure of where or whom that pelvic bone could have come from. Then he noticed the hand that stood unmoving at the top of the cocoon. Its hand opened as if reaching for something above them. Godwyn’s blood ran cold. Who the hell is that? What is that? Is that… Mohg? He saw no signs of the omen anywhere, but who else could that be?
He made the decision quickly, almost in a snap. He was going down there himself. He needed to see it with his own eyes. It was time to pay his brother and whatever that was on the pedestal a visit.
His body would travel along via deathroot, taking him from underground and leading him toward his brother’s dynasty. The roots carry him in a protective cocoon of sorts to keep him safe from the rot above, and whatever else lies in waiting below. Slowly, he would be lowered down to the Mausoleum, near the back where the mysterious cocoon sat. Once the root hit the ground, he let a few moments pass before letting himself be revealed by the roots retracting. He stood, dawning a dark cloak, his old tattered navy blue robes underneath, and the small crown and thorns on his head. He scanned the area around him. It was empty, quiet, and unmoving. Is there no one else here besides this cocoon? His eyes meet with the dreadful sight of the fiber ball. He turns to face it, inspecting it from a distance. Then it happened…
The hand moved. The hand fucking moved. It twitched, and then it started to sway. It quickly fell to the bottom, dangling over the pedestal. Godwyn was beyond unnerved at this point. It was so still that the thought of it suddenly moving was enough to make him come out of his skin. But this… This made him so unsettled that he was damn near ready to hightail it back from where he came from. Fuck this, he didn’t come down here to meet some eldritch abomination.
But then he caught the meager glimmer of a ring on the long, warped finger of the hand. It intrigued him enough to carefully approach the cocoon. He trod up the steps, getting a better look at the intricately detailed ring on the person’s finger. That ring looked so familiar. He moved closer, now close enough to touch the figure. The ring… It was so detailed. The way it was made was so fine. It had to be a ring that was made in Leyendell. Surely a ring like that would cost a fortune, something only nobles and royalty may be able to own as it had to be made from the finest materials that could only be found in Leyendell. But this ring didn’t look like it was produced more than once. It truly looked like one of a kind. Something that he could faintly remember his family once owned, something Radagon maybe wore once? But he gave up most of his jewelry to his children. Wait, could this mean…?
“Miquella…?” His eyes widen slightly, and the realization of who this could be hit him. He hasn’t been able to find Miquella or his sister Malenia anywhere, no matter how far or wide his deathroot could spread. Could this be why he couldn’t find them? Was Miquella here this whole time?
“Miquella… Is it truly thee? Oh… Oh no. Oh, Gods.” The thoughts of what could have happened made him nauseous. Miquella, aside from Ranni, was possibly the most promising heir to Marika’s throne.  His intellect was amazing, and his ability to create powerful incantations made him a great suitor to the throne, the curse of an eternal childhood be damned.
He gently took Miquella’s hand into his own. His hand was now large enough to grip Godwyn’s equally large hands as well. The gravity of the situation was beginning to fall hard onto him. “Miquella, what has happened to thee? Is… Is this what thy wanted?” He knew Miquella wanted to grow his body into adulthood. It was something Miquella was very vocal about. Ever since his curse became more apparent, it was all he could ever wish for himself. But Godwyn could hardly believe he wanted to grow into an adult body like this. Anything but this.
“Miquella, O dear Miquella… I shall grant thee a true death if thou wisheth to be so. I-I can hardly bear to see thee like this. What a cruel fate…” Godwyn lamented as he squeezed Miquella's hand. Miquella remained ever still, unresponsive to Godwyn’s voice and touch. But… Godwyn would get a response.
A sudden burst of noise rang out behind him. The sound of rushing liquid hitting the floor, fire ringing out in angry puffs. Godwyn would snap around to see what lurked behind him. He would see a silhouette of a large, bulky figure in blood. It quickly formed before him into the figure of a large dark omen, long black horns twisting on each side of his head. Half of his face dawned a sickly long and sharp row of teeth. His beady eyes were deep gold. The robes he wore were immaculate and regal in every sense, but very different from the usual regal robes you would see in Leyendell. The trident he held in his hands was pointed at Godwyn.

Sir Neidhardt, the Barricade
Unlike many of those who would become his comrades-in-arms, Neidhardt did not aspire to glory on the battlefield. Quite the contrary, the boy was taught from a young age that any conflict could be overcome through stoic endurance. After all, all things pass away with time if one will but have the patience to outlast them.
This philosophy was not developed for lack of threats, however, as his home village of Summonwater was often plagued by bandit raids from the Caelid Wilds. However, Neidhardt's people suffered not, for they were under the protection of the Congregation of Vows, a monastic order dedicated to maintaining peace and tranquility throughout the neighboring provinces of Limgrave and Liurnia. The order was led by turtles, sage creatures revered by the people of Limgrave for their long lives and great wisdom.
Bishop Beren, the leader of the Summonwater contingent, instructed the people of Summonwater in the ways of passivity, but not pacifism. Situated as his church was on the border of a unruly wasteland, Beren recognized that while violence must never be one's first result, one must not be afraid to defend one's own. It was thus that the Congregation held the line against roaming bandits, enduring their assaults when they could, yet wreaking havoc with powerful magic when pushed. For such is the essence of true humility, to keep one's own power controlled to only be used when necessary. For the humble avoids fighting out of a desire to protect, but a coward avoids fighting out of a fear of loss.
Eager to aid in the defense of his village, Neidhardt volunteered for service with the Congregation when he came of age. The turtle monks taught him the art of the shield, instructing him on how to center oneself so as to become immovable. But Neidhardt refused to pick up a weapon, for to him the best offense began and ended with a perfected defense. If he could but train himself to weather all assaults, then there would be no need for bloodshed at all, and thus young Neidhardt sought to achieve true enlightenment.
Outside of the occasional raid, Neidhardt got his first taste of true combat in the Liurnian Wars. When Radagon the Red, champion of the Golden Order, declared his desire to conquer the Academy of Raya Lucaria in the name of Queen Marika, the Congregation of Vows came to their defense. Bishop Miriel called for aid, and Beren answered the call. Leaving a small contingent of monks to defend Summonwater Village, Beren took a vanguard to repel the aggressors. Though he was loathe to go to war, Neidhardt felt that his oath of protection applied to all those friendly towards the Congregation, and so he took up his shield and joined the Bishop.
It was here that Sir Neidhardt earned renown for his prowess with a shield, for it was said that such was his determination that in his hands a wooden beam could withstand the mighty swing of a troll. The combined might of the Carian Knights, Raya Lucaria, and the Congregation repelled the hostile forces, pushing them back up the Lift of Dectus and out of Liurnia in its entirety. However, Miriel knew the fight was not yet over, for Radagon had sworn not to leave his work unfinished. And so the defenders prepped for a second assault, yet all the while Neidhardt worried that his home was left vulnerable by the monks' absence.
As later became apparent, the second defense was not necessary in its entirety. Long before his forces reached Beren's line of defense, Radagon repented of his territorial aggression and sought absolution at the Church of Vows. Bishop Miriel asserted that his repentance was sincere, and so the would-be conqueror was wed to the Queen of Raya Lucaria. At long last, the Lands Between would know peace once more.
But it was not to last for Neidhardt, for he returned home to tragedy. Without Beren and his monks to give themselves as a living wall, bandits from Caelid had sacked Summonwater Village and burned his church to the ground. As Beren wept for the loss of his flock, Neidhardt searched the village for survivors, yet all he found was a young child huddled in a cellar, clutching a talisman of the Congregation in a desperate plea for salvation.
Neidhardt felt naught but despair. In his mind, the teachings of Bishop Beren had come to naught. The villagers had stalwartly endured their trials, confident that their troubles would one day come to an end. Yet their faith had rewarded them with nothing but death and ruin. Thus did Neidhardt cast aside his shield, forsaking forever the safety of defense, and instead determined to demolish those who would prey on the innocent. The wandering apostate tracked the bandits to Mistwood and tore them apart with whatever weapon he could find, yet none lasted long as the same focus with which he had withstood harrowing assaults during the Liurnian Wars now concentrated his power into the tip of a spear, the edge of a sword, the flat of a hammer.
His mission completed but his work far from over, Neidhardt scoured Limgrave in a self-imposed crusade of penitence. It was in the southernmost reaches of that land that he encountered a stranger whose posture betrayed his regal lineage. When Neidhardt challenged the wanderer he identified himself as Morgott of the Golden Lineage. On learning that Morgott hailed from the order which Neidhardt felt had stolen his family, he went into a blind rage. Yet the knight's fury could not compare to the prowess of a demigod, and so Neidhardt was defeated. Yet Morgott spared his life, and in this act of mercy Neidhardt perceived the humility of the Congregation: power under control.
Morgott explained that he was in search of recruits, knights who would do whatever was necessary to maintain the peace which the Lands Between now enjoyed. Neidhardt accepted without a second thought, and so Sir Benadur inducted the newest member of the Night's Cavalry. Now, Neidhardt has a new creed and a new mission. The time for passivity is over. The time to execute judgment has come.

@crybaby-tarnished
Oh, of all the rotten luck! Who knew that such a mire would've left him stuck like this! He really should've thought about some way to distribute his immense girth properly when venturing into Caelid, but no! Here he was, stuck in this crimson slop that people called a 'swamp'. Thankfully, none of the infamous Rot around him seemed to affect his outer pot shell, which was a relief.
... But he was still stuck, thankfully near the 'coast' of the swamp, as he had tried to pull himself out, clawing at the solid ground as he did.
"U-Uughh... oh, blast it all! T'would seem my girth is preventing me from rescuing myself! Uh... H-HELLO?! ANYONE! COULD SOMEONE PERHAPS BE A CHIVALROUS SPIRIT AND HELP?!" he'd cry out into the Caelid Wilds, hoping someone, anyone could help!
