happy (late) anniversary to The S3 episode ever. anyways this was so fucked up wasn't it

k i was going to go on a huge tag rant but for once i'll do that on the post itself i guess

this is why i mean when i say a lunter endgame would make the show so much better because GOD the implications of hunter's words, the subtext of it all... "it would've been someone else" and he's right! there's been so many other people! belos HAS been doing this to all the grimwalkers and their evelyns through the years. for as long as he's created the grimwalkers in caleb's likeness, they have eventually turned against him and perished by belos' hand. and then you can read the inevitability of this cycle as destiny. this is how it always happen.

and this is how it actually happens in TTT too: hunter turns on belos, and he perishes by his hand. actually it's so poetic that belos does it by corrupting his body to the point of death. and he only stops because of flapjack (who luz happened to introduce to hunter in the first place!!!!!). but this is also because of luz: she refuses to fight possessed hunter because she's unwilling to hurt him, unlike the rest of the group. maybe, if luz had attacked him right then and there, it would've ended there. it's flapjack, the symbol of caleb and evelyn's love, who ends up breaking the cycle: this time, hunter gets to live.

this is why it makes me insane that hunter says this to luz... right now, all of their conjoint actions have led them to changing the fate of all the grimwalkers. for the first time in forever, caleb and evelyn are able to stand together against belos, and it's fitting then that hunter points that out. like, his words fit perfectly into the concept of a lunter endgame, of a final reincarnation of the love between caleb and evelyn who kicked off the plot in the first place.

and the fact that this happens later makes it 200% more fucked up btw

it's hunter's conviction and the reminder of flapjack's sacrifice that change luz's determination to stay in the human realm. but also, like, hunter bringing up the symbol of caleb and evelyn's love as a plea to convince luz to fight by his side....... i can't make this shit up! it's right there in the show!

After rewatching the Thanks For Watching trilogy, I actually have to double down on my controversial opinion: Hunter never having to directly face off against Belos again after Thanks to Them is actually super satisfying and cathartic in an understated, underrated way. He said everything he needed to say after the worst thing that Belos ever did to him, and from then on, he didn't know it yet but he was free. I'm so happy for him.

#he was in so much pain when he was focused on vengeance in FTF. it's such a moment of relief when WAD lets him breathe #the owl house #the owl house hunter #emperor belos #i don't even think hunter's arc was *completely* unscathed by cancellation-induced pacing issues #i think he would've benefitted from more time to sit with flapjack's death and to flesh out the new magic (esp limitations) #(i think they could've spun up an interesting new angle on the disability metaphor if they'd had like... #an A-plot and two B-plots across half a season. give some payoffs to his prior glyph usage maybe) #but with the cancellation they couldn't have given him that time without taking any away from luz (or others but mostly luz) #and to be clear: i think they made the right choice #because hunter is a great character but nonetheless one that the fanbase needs to be reminded is not the protagonist #anyways he might be the TOH character for which the ending stuck the least for me... BUT the fact that i still enjoyed it overall #is really a testament to the crew handling the cancellation in the best way humanly possible. IMO

"Hate" is a strong word. Hate would imply I'd care what would happen to the Collector. Seriously, if they would write him out of the last episode without any explanation, I wouldn't bat an eye, because I think The Owl House got a ton of interesting and complex characters I want to see more of. But honestly, the Collector is not among them.

My greatest problem with this character is their change of their personality (sounds right? nope. but I won't change this sentence now) as well as the fandom's characterization. The Collector went from an annoying but intriguing mysterious creature trapped in the round boi™ into a mere crybaby who is just so plain to me. No offense if you like the Collector (their theme still fucks hard and I adore the new aesthetic of the isles), but to me, he just takes away time and space from the rest of the cast.

But did I get this right? Did your Collector OC kill the current Collector? Give them a kiss from me then please <3

King’s Tide was an absolute mindfuck. It solidified my hatred towards Belos, Odalia, and Terra. Odalia basically sold out by reporting the “stolen” blimp, Terra was too dumb to realize that the Day of Unity is a massive genocide, and Belos is extremely self-righteous about the “evils” of wild magic and his disdain towards witches. Seriously, fuck those despicable shitty-ass motherfuckers! 🖕🏻

It’s a relief that Belos’s backstabbing and manipulating deeds led him to his downfall thanks to Luz and the Collector. However, he’s not yet completely gone as his sludge successfully made it to the human realm, which makes me afraid that Belos is going to possess either Hunter or Jacob.

Now that the Collector stopped the draining spell, they began to warp reality, leaving the fates of the citizens of the Boiling Isles unknown. I hope that they realize that Belos’s words are nothing but complete bullshit and they cancel Odalia and Terra for conspiring with him.

As for season 3, I’m very angry at Disney for shortening it to 3 44-minute specials instead of renewing a full 20-episode season. It makes me want to punch a punching bag repeatedly just like what Morgan Terry did after she watched the episode.

That’s all I have to say and now that the show is on hiatus, I’m going to keep myself busy with other interests to stay sane.

i have a nagging critical take on the owl house that i want to share eventually (probably long after the finale comes out because that has a small chance of changing my opinion) but its extremely lukewarm… but it has bothered me enough to want to write about it when i have the time
