(A lot of them can sing really well but they just needed this to be a movie rather than TV where it’s a week to make an episode. Babe I wish they were able to arrange that better. Good voices, not so good ears. They just maybe needed a tuning whistle. I want to like that scene but it hurts my ears.)

Summary: (3/3) Post-3x10 Queen of Hearts. When Arthur asks Merlin to talk to Gwen on his behalf, Merlin’s whole world changes for the better. | written for day one (royalty + angst) of @merlinfests's mergwenthur month

Lunch with Gwen is as normal as ever. Even the kiss—and more—doesn’t deter either of them from teasing each other and talking about the latest castle gossip. Merlin’s grateful. He doesn’t want to lose this familiarity. Arthur too, but somehow Merlin knows that Arthur’s going to be the same as ever.

Gwen grants him a soft kiss on the cheek before he leaves. He’s bouncing on the balls of his feet again, unable to untangle the emotions in his chest. Merlin is torn between wanting to push Gwen up against the wall and feel her body against his again, or running to give Arthur her message.

In the end, it’s Gwen that pushes him out.

The Scene™ does get mentioned again, by Klaus himself. When Luther picks him up by the neck in the Void, Klaus says "Again?!" and Luther replies "Yes, again" and then yeets him into the bouncing castle heaven. Klaus brushes it off as always, and then lets Luther guilt-trip him into resurrecting himself. So not only does Luther remember what he did to Klaus in S1, he's not the slightest bit sorry. On the contrary. He's perfectly ready to beat Klaus into submission even before he learns that there is no pain in the Void, and he knows exactly what to do to manipulate Klaus (watching their conversation in the bouncy house always gives me major red flags, just look at Luther's body language in particular). While the S1 scene definitely needs to be talked about more I find the Void scene ten times worse. I know everyone loves Himbo Luther now but he still has a ways to go imo.

OH RIGHT. my bad, i forgot about the bouncy house scene. you're right. and i agree with everything you just said - this time, it's explained with a 'klaus can't feel pain in the void so it's fine and luther doesn't have to work on his anger issues uwu' because yeah. always blame the victim kids! this makes me so MAD honestly.

they changed luther a lot, trying to make him just a 'kind big guy' all of a sudden which he's not. he's not kind. to klaus, at least. they interacted like 35 seconds from s1 to s3 and all of that time was luther yelling at him, throwing and chocking him and dragging him around. at the same time he SOMEHOW befriended diego because diego can kick his ass. he's now also viktor's bestie because he learned a lesson in s1.

and klaus never fights back. (i can rant for hours how much i HATE this, and the fact that klaus is the strongest yet the weaponless one, and that the show tone rarely treats him seriously, etc, etc)

yeah yeah i know i say this only because im (mostly) a klaus-centric blog, but there's certainly a problem with luther attacking the weakest ones. tf he wanted from five in 3x10? w h a t was he gonna do? punch a tiny dude in a 13yo kid's body?

Episode 3x08 & 3x10 were swapped round for ratings. The new order really messed up the girls' storylines - like Gwen is way more suspicious of Morgana in 3x08, because the former suspected the latter of sabotage in 3x10 & Morgana is more snappish at Gwen in 3x08, due to her prophetic dream of Gwen 'stealing' her throne. Plus, Morgana was very relieved to see her sister in 3x10 as the last time she saw Morgause, the latter was buried under a pile of rubble in Cenred's castle.

What? If that's true, it explains so fucking much. You make very good points about Morgana and Gwen - I'd always wondered why it took so long for Morgana to be reunited with Morgause after The Castle of Fyrien, and also could never understand why Morgana had dropped her act around Gwen so suddenly - to me, though, it was Arwen who suffered the most from that episode swap.

I could never understand why Arwen's relationship was so immature in Queen of Hearts: why Arthur still acted like a boy with a crush who couldn't understand his feelings, why Gwen was still so reluctant to pursue a relationship with him. I'd always thought the writers had weirdly regressed their relationship; it was hard to believe Arthur and Gwen were still so shy around each other after The Castle of Fyrien. Imo, their relationship changed a lot after that episode, when Gwen learned Arthur had her back and was there to stay; The Eye of the Phoenix only confirmed their relationship had grown into something more tangible and defined - they had accepted their love for each other, hence Gwen's open concern about Arthur and the casual kiss in the corridor (in retrospect, Gwen's shock and delight could've been because they were supposed to be hiding their relationship after Queen of Hearts, but made sense after The Castle of Fyrien too).

Queen of Hearts never made any sense to me; it's like The Castle of Fyrien and The Eye of the Phoenix had never happened and Arwen's characterization picked up from where Goblin's Gold, Gwaine, and The Changeling had left off. If Queen of Hearts was supposed to have followed The Castle of Fyrien, that would've made a lot more sense. Arthur had nearly lost Gwen when she was taken by Cenred and had realized he'd do anything for her; furthermore, their relationship had been exposed to Elyan, and even Morgana would've learned about it had she not known already. As such, Morgana encouraging Arthur to go on a date with Gwen, Arthur and Gwen finally going on a date and acknowledging their relationship, and Arthur publicly admitting his feelings for Gwen to Uther, would've felt like a natural progression of their relationship; in The Castle of Fyrien and The Changeling, Arthur and Gwen's relationship had grown bigger than the two of them and could no longer be hidden.

Instead, placing Queen of Hearts after The Eye of the Phoenix felt like one step forward and two steps back. Arthur and Gwen's relationship was written in the same tone as The Changeling, a strange choice more than halfway through the season. Honestly, even if Queen of Hearts had come after The Castle of Fyrien, Arthur would've been a bit OCC. It would've explained why Gwen was still reluctant to go on a date with Arthur (they were still dancing around in each other in The Changeling and The Castle of Fyrien), but how could Arthur have been so unsure of Gwen's feelings for him (he even asked Morgana if Gwen talked about him with the enthusiasm of a boy with a crush - would've made sense after Gwaine, not after The Changeling) and so vague about his feelings for Gwen (he had no problem confessing his love to her)? Dunno. An episode swap would've explained a lot, and the timing would've been much better too, but I'd still have my issues with Arwen in Queen of Hearts. They were so cute in the episode and I love that Gwen became braver and more confident afterward, and that Arthur put Gwen first without hesitating, but, imo, The Castle of Fyrien is a better Arwen episode, with better characterization. Also, it would've been weird for Gwen to openly show Morgana her concern for Arthur had she thought Morgana had exposed their relationship and was just waiting for a chance to kill her. And it made sense Gwen would suspect Morgana of something as vile and serious as murder had she already thought Morgana had been practicing magic and no longer meant well.

Thanks so much for telling me about this!!! I don't know behind the scenes stuff... When you said the episodes were swapped for ratings, was that because they used Queen of Hearts to push the ratings up, or was it The Eye of the Phoenix?

3x01 Exposed

A local FBI case involving two murdered women and a sea of powerful men turns into a manhunt for the dangerous leader of a far-reaching criminal enterprise.

This is Part 3 of the 1st FBI Crossover. Alexa Davalos joins the show as Kristin Gaines. This crossover would also be the introduction of Luke Kleintank as Scott Forrester on FBI International. Alexa and Luke starred opposite each other in Prime Video's alt history thriller The Man In The Castle. That is my next set of gif sets that I will be working on.

3x02 Patriots

New Fugitive Task Force member Kristin Gaines joins Jess and the team as they head to DC to find a dangerous fugitive from the January 6 Capitol riot.

3x03 Tough Love

When a judge known for serving harsh sentences to juveniles is murdered, the team looks into his lengthy list of cases in the hunt for his killer; Kristin faces family hurdles while resettling with her teenage daughter in New York City.

3x04 Inherited

The team must determine if the kidnapping of a young Chinese-American woman is a random hate crime or if she was specifically targeted; Jess and Sarah struggle with Tali's continued rebellious streak.

Trivia: We meet CIA Agent Kevin Miller in this episode. Kristin asks him about the interest the Chinese have in CRISPR tech. Kevin will show up later in 3x22 A Man Without A Country.

3x05 Unhinged

After a deadly fire at an arcade, the team discovers the blaze was just the first step in an intricate plan to exact revenge on one of the victims; Hana rejoins the team, finding new adjustments in all aspects of her life.

Trivia: There is a blooper in this episode. When Hana and Kristin are talking to the loan shark you can see a wedding ring on Kristin's hand. Later when Kristin talks to Hana and Sheryll she tells that she's divorced from Nick.

3x06 Lovesick

The team attempts to hunt down a family annihilator before he continues his murder spree; Barnes' intrusive mother puts pressure on her marriage.

3x07 Gladiator

The team investigates the murder of a professional basketball player's wife, who was a famous lifestyle guru; Kristin and her ex-husband grow closer; special agent Isobel Castille checks in with the team on the high-profile case.

3x08 Sport Of Kings

After a prized Kentucky racehorse is stolen and its groomer is taken hostage, the team quickly learns they may be the only ones who consider the young woman's safety a priority over the horse's; Byron returns to celebrate the holidays with Jess.

3x09 Run Hide Fight

While holiday shopping, Barnes and Jess are caught in the middle of a mall shooting; Gaines, Hana and Ortiz try to help from the outside, knowing their team's family members are inside and at risk.

Trivia: This episode marks the introduction of David Hudgins as the new showrunner for FBI Most Wanted. It is also the first episode that follows a new format of jumping right into the action.

The team hunts for a young man who is using napalm-style bombs to attack his targets; with Tali away, Jess and Sarah begin to adjust to their empty nest.

The task force chases a killer who plays a twisted game of cat and mouse with his victims; Hana shares something personal about herself with her new roommate, Ortiz.

3x12 El Pincho ( 7 Parts )

The team searches for a notorious Colombian drug lord after he escapes from a U.S. prison; Kristin begins to open up to her ex-husband about her past.

Trivia: This is the episode that delves into Kristin's past in Miami. We'll learn more in 4x03 Succession.

3x13 Overlooked

The team searches for a businessman wanted for murder and an embezzlement scheme; Jess takes advantage of his empty nest to properly court Sarah.

3x14 Shattered

The team pursues an abusive man who is on the hunt for an ex-girlfriend trying to escape him; Jess and Sarah make plans to take their dream vacation together.

Trivia: This is the final episode with Julian McMahon as SSA Jess LaCroix.

3x15 Incel

The team must track down a murderous member of the incel community targeting those he believes never give him a chance; Barnes, Hana, Ortiz and Kristin deal with their grief in the wake of Jess' death.

Alexa Davalos is marked as the lead actor for this episode. This is the first time in the FBI verse. She was the lead actor on The Man In The High Castle.

3x16 Decriminalized

The team gets called to Vermont after a married couple who grow illegal marijuana massacres their employees; Barnes begins to regret not taking any time off to bond with her new baby.
