Stray Kids as Hozier songs | OT8
Tumblr media
Chan
Take me to Church - the song resonates with leadership and a commanding presence in the same way Chan does, with a very bold and powerful nature. It's a very intense song. Chan is devoted to the members and the music and he’s a determined man. Chan's unwavering presence is always passionate and the soulful vocals of the song coupled with the powerful instrumentals mirrors the role of Chan in the group. The lyrics also reflects resistance, something we know Chan is well versed into.
Minho
Nina Cried Power - The empowering theme of the song resonates with Minho's social involvement. "It's not the song, it is the singing". It's no mystery Minho is very well conscious of inequalities in the world, and he does what he can to fight them. The song also explore power and the force of collective strength, something that pairs well to Minho and his attentive care to guide Stray Kids in dancing as a unit. "It's not the wall, but what's behind": he understands and communicates perfectly how the connections between members (even beyond the surface) are part of the strength of the group.
Changbin
Jackie and Wilson - Stylistically speaking, the song’s instrumentals are impactful and strong just like Changbin's rapping and his ability to make strong artistic statements even when in a group. The lyrics convey the sense of overcoming challenges, something Changbin himself admitted to have done, and in doing so, he made a lasting impact in the musical world and in the lives of many (who often speak about the impact Changbin had on them).
Hyunjin
Cherry Wine - sweet and soulful, a very gentle and emotional atmosphere, tender but complex, almost like it’s hiding a constant questioning. The song has the ability to convey emotional depth and a story, and it’s mirrored by the ability Hyunjin has to do the same while dancing. The song has a tone of melancholy in itself, a bittersweet taste that Hyunjin is able to replicate with his ability to convey emotional complexity with just a facial expression or a movement. The poetic nature of the song, despite the negative narrative aspects, reflect Hyunjin artistic expression and many of his paintings.
Jisung
From Eden - Jisung's creative style match the complexity and depth found in the narrative of the song. In the song there's a sense of familiarity and introspection, and both Jisung and the song manage to be amazing storytellers. The imagery in the song it's very vivid, just like Han's lyrics, and the symbolism is so Jisung coded.
Felix
Almost (sweet music) - smooth and stylish, the song depicts a sophisticated atmosphere, yet a longing and emotional one. There's a mix of style in the song, a bit of classic jazz and something more contemporary, and it translate perfectly in Felix's duality. The heart being, in a way, the main character is also something easily paired to Felix, who always wears his heart on his sleeves.
Seungmin
Someone new - an hopeful and melodic atmosphere, a "friendly" song even to those who are not fans of Hozier. There's lightness in the lyrics yet they’re honest and clear, and they translate in Seungmin's position in the group. As said, it’s an honest song, almost like a self-discovering journey from the narrator and it suits Seungmin so well.
Jeongin
To noise making (sing) - bright energy, uplifting and optimistic tones. There's a careless energy in the song and exuberance that reflects Jeongin's. The melodies are almost whimsical, and paired with the uplifting message it reminds me of the constant positive and cheerful aura that I.N. has. It also always makes me think it can be read as a message to Jeongin from his hyungs: the undeniable love they have for him, the unwavering support and the joy they all feel just by watching him being happy…

Let me think how I'll break it down into words, your stories are as if they are cotton candies, tarts, so picture yourself getting thrown into a dream that has scenery so wonderful that you don't want to ever wake up from. In truth, anything sinister is hiding beneath that welcoming grace, the inhabitants there just won't let you leave💕 Your writing is both a paradise and can be nightmare depending on the will of your hands.

For @cxlemon / @cxsinesis
I have to say, your portrayals are ornate and euphemistic to look and read at. In my opinion, the imagery, metaphors, how you deliver had me think that it's not just standard actions. Makes me wonder how many years and efforts did it take you to polish your vocabularies and style. Because it's an art and a masterpiece. Other nsfw fics highlights more on the behavior part, that's great too but there's loftiness in your themes and narration. You gave me inspiration on what I might do🥺
。・:*:・゚★,。・:*:・゚☆
For @kunehori
Your illustrations are hypnotizing, it's as if I'm at the ocean, listening to seagulls chirping, it's peaceful, and I feel so happy and smile like a moron when I saw you on my dash. You can draw and devise texts to form a whole universe with the tip of your brush and on papers. It's fluffy. Beautiful. You captured my attention to your ideas and words. I'm speechless and honored you're here, Ari. (Ty for being a pal on my main too andgjshdheb.)

For @cupids-chamber
When I visualize about the imparting, it leaves butterflies in my stomach, it's so melodious to my ears, I would never get bored by your writing because it's like I'm in a land of ethereal with spells and myths. For @oepionie
It's official that you are one of my favorites. Your headcanons, drabbles, and fics are poetic. They are what grasped my heart, had me blush and squeal to myself whenever I turned around to scrutinize them. Kind of like how it's luring me into the rabbit hole where Alice has once fallen into a dark abyss. To the unknown and it's going to be adventurous 🌻

Cholo - The Sartorial Identity of Los Angeles.
Often affiliated with the Hispanic gangs of Los Angeles, the Cholo style is now represented all over the world. Dickies, Cortez and Pendleton shirts ... this is how we could summarize this aesthetic. However, the Cholo style is governed by codes that have evolved alongside the Mexican community in the USA.The contemporary Cholo style has its roots in the "Pachuco" style. The "Pachuco" was embodied by an active Latino community in Los Angeles in the 1930s. They met to dance swing and wore suits with very large pants: the "Zoot Suit". Reinterpreted in our time via workwear, the cholos use "Khakis" Dickies or Ben Davies 1 or 2 sizes too big to wear them high on the waist with a belt. The folds on the middle of the leg reproduce the aesthetics of the Zoot Suit pants. For some gangs, the standard is 1 pleat in the front and 3 pleats in the back, to form the number 13 in reference to MS-13 (Mara Salvatrucha). The jeans are starched so that they sit on the leg and do not wrinkle at the knees. Pleats similar to khakis are also ironed in.The Cholos place great importance on cleanliness in their clothing. An immaculate white shirt and an ironed chino are among the outward markers needed to be respected on the street. As in the 1930s, this respect is achieved through clean, well-cut clothes. This Cholo aesthetic has inspired other movements even beyond California's borders. In the 1970s, skateboarders like Tony Alva wore Dickies with Pendleton shirts and bandanas inspired by the West Coast Hispanic community. However, the Cholo style really took off in the world thanks to the explosion of California Rap in the late 80s. The members of N.W.A and in particular Eazy E took these codes and applied them to Gangsta Rap. Their imagery has largely contributed to the diffusion of this style in the world and in Japan where a Cholo community is concentrated today.Nowadays, independent brands continue to keep this Cholo clothing heritage alive. Born x Raised and Willy Chavaria each in their own way evolve the classic Los Angeles style by incorporating elements of sportswear.

Falling In Reverse's Watch The World Burn
Tumblr media
Just an hour ago Falling In Reverse released their new single Watch The World Burn, alongside a killer videoclip. Ronnie Radke has said in the past that he doesn't like when bands anticipate their new releases, it takes forever and there is no joy or surprise in it.; he prefers just dropping new shit out of the blue when people aren't expecting it, and this time was one of them. I think it is safe to say we all agree with him.
This new song is perfectly coherent in sound and theme with their last two singles released in 2022: ZOMBIFIED, and Voices In My Head. Falling In Reverse have found the best sound for this new epoch, displayed for the first time in their hit Popular Monster, and Ronnie Radke has perfected the mix of the vocals and the song in general. I'm specially a fan of his pronunciation during the harder parts of the song, where he opens a lot the vowels. It is pure sound quality, can't get any better than this.
The structure of the song is pretty much the same one that their 2022 singles have, starting with a Trap intro, altho this time way longer than what one would expect -over a minute and a half-, but it fits perfectly. Then it follows into a short fast Rap section heavily inspired in Eminem (the main rapper Ronnie Radke draws inspiration from) going way faster than, again, one would expect. Finally it builds up and breaks into the modern Falling In Reverse metal sound.
I was beginning to think we weren't gonna hear from their new lead guitarist Max Georgiev; but we do atho not much, only some sweet sweep picking arpeggios. This is the first release of the band he participates in so the project was already cooked before he joined anyways. He fits perfectly in the band replacing Jacky Vincent who went on to focus on his amazing Neo Power Metal project Cry Venom. Both Jacky Vincent and Max Georgiev have a virtuoso classical and symphonic inspired playing style, the later having a beautiful album of classical guitar pieces called Exorcism Chapter One. The two current members of the band listed as co-composers are the also lead guitarist Christian Thompson (who joined Falling in Reverse in 2015 participating in Just Like You and Coming Home) and the bassist and backing and lead vocalist Tyler Burgess. We can also see in the videoclip one of the best drummers of the music scene, Luke Holland. He is not a permanent member of Falling In Reverse, but he's been participating with the band for over two years now.
During the metal part of the track Ronnie Radke builds up and climaxes in a harmonized high note just like in Voices In My Head, and the drop that follows frankly sounds the same as the one in that song. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it is clear that these three singles are sisters just as the trilogy Losing My Mind / Losing My Life / Drugs. It is expected that two other songs will join Voices in my head, Zombified, and Watch The World Burn, in a 5 songs EP titled Neon Zombie to be released this year 2023.
The videoclip is full of pop culture references, with warlike imagery and the same concept of Ronnie Radke being some kind of destructive force in a wooden closed space, this time a church, just like as we see in the single that cemented their contemporary sound Popular Monster. I gotta say, my favourite videoclip of the ones in this development arch is Voices In My Head, but this one is specially epic and powerful just as the song is.
Thematically it feels like a synthesis of the other two songs of this afromentioned sisterhood of singles, it literally opens with "I got voices in my head again". Talks about trauma, needing therapy, depression, and aggressiveness like in Voices In My Head; and about being criticized and how supposedly "Nowadays everybody’s so sensitive" like in ZOMBIFIED.
Now this last faulty idea is based on a talking point of the hegemonic media and buffoons of the dominant class that aims to spread fearmongery about an imaginary cancel culture, like it is shit on the walls of a public bathroom. It is a shame that such a talented musician has fallen into this discursive tomfoolery: no Ronnie, teens on the internet are not coming for you, you can still choose to be a bigot on the internet if you so choose, people being called out on transphobia on twitter is not literally 1984, it is the bare minimum of accountability. It seems to me that victims that bite into this ideological trap are the ones with the thinner skin, thinking we are zombied cuz we don't tolerate bullshit.
Still, Watch The World Burn is one hell of a song that even copying aspects of their other two last singles, feels unique and full of personality. Falling In Reverse does not fail to deliver.
Grade: 9/10
XOXO

Thoughts on the 10th ep of Hypmic Rhyme Anima+. Spoilers beware
Season 1 | Ep.1 | Ep.2 | Ep.3 | Ep.4 | Ep. 5 | Ep. 6 | Ep. 7 | Ep. 8 | Ep. 9
LETS GOOOO MCD flashbackkkkk
Oh look finally a good look at TBH and the mastermind's faces, nice thanks OFC the big bag is Kaibyaku the medical dude
ah so in the end it all leads back to that company if all three of them worked in the same place
Ofc the classic cheek punch then pass out, always happens
LMAOO they knocked each others teeth out and made friendship bracelets out of it thats a romance right there.
Oh damn does that mean that kaibyaku has some of of medical issue? that was an IV in his arm im pretty sure or at least some sort of drip. Maybe Jakurai will play some sort of big end of series role that heals him? I hope not, that would be a bit boring but it would make sense since kujaku posse is the only duo not affiliated with the whole TBH trio thing
Leader battle lets goooo we'll probably get another leader song which is always fun
I hope we get a TBH one
EYYY HEADSET MIC LETS GOOO I looooveddd rosho's one and im so glad theres another one which is always fun
Huh mic embedded in the hand? Thats an interesting concept
[On a second rewatch I think its interesting how Kenji specifically says "I can't fall here. Not we. Theres some foreshadowing that he is the only real one here. He specifics in his rap vers that its "that wretched party" that belongs in a grave, not any of our characters in particular]
[also another detail. The necromancy + skull imagery to their rap verse…. they are bringing back old ghosts with their song… they are so tragic. The rap on as second watch is just so much more tragic once you know everything]
Kuko's rap uses the letters T B H as the starts of his verses which is fun
NIce imagery of three dragons fighting for dominance, a very apt metaphor for IchiSamaKuko who are just hothead extremes
huh wonder what was ripped up
oh thats a neat explanation of how they were able to do a lot of supernatural stuff. I feel like it would have been more interesting if it was a hallucination, but hey I'll take that L its not that bad even if a bit uninspired/not very well foreshadowed
Also the vibrations as controlling element, as someone who can hear electronics, is something that would work for me 100% wwwww I would go crazy if i had to hear those annoying sound waves 24/7
I mean exposition episode but its kinda cute actually? I hate that they're doing this after revealing that they're dead but it does put in the point that they were people, not good people, but still people
bro… bro… satoru specifically says in his rap that the world's our kitchen… he has so many kitchen metaphors here…. bro still holds his dream of opening a restaurant with his totally platonic life bro even after death… bro…..
I mean its not that bad of a motive, im not that convinced that they're in the wrong. I'm also very much a sucker for acts of destructive love which is why i may be more inclined to cheer for kaibyakumon
While I do wish that they had fleshed out Kenji's relationship with Satoru and Akira a bit more, I do feel like the duo's dynamic on its own was really well presented before the big reveal. Like what's Kenji's feelings about SatoAkira, why is he so invested in this whole plan other than borderline idolizing kaibyaku?
I feel its hilarious how kenji's just sitting there while kaibyaku is just going on his monologue wwww
Nice, i like how they used Oosaka's island nature into their planning but there Are other bridges going into the mainland im pretty sure?
okay but why should you care? Like hes doing a overall good? Kaibyakumon's goals are aligned with the overall cast's motive of making sure that the government is placed in check so if the team wants us to have a reason to root against them, gotta give a good reason, esp after that backstory
LMAO HIFUMI oh i feel so bad for him

My tier list of the bosses from Most to Least Favorite
I know this one's five days late, but this is going to be my contribution to NSR's third anniversary.
Sayu
Tumblr media
This lovely mermaid is what got me into NSR in the first place!
I found out about the game through her theme song!
As soon as I heard it, it felt like I had ascended out of my body for a moment.
I also love her designs and her stage since I do have a soft spot for mermaids, and she was also kind of my gateway into seeing VTubers.
Also, I love all the remixes of her song that people have made!
2. Yinu
Tumblr media
Sweet flower child....
I loved Yinu's themes due to me actually having a love for classical music.
I used to play the viola and the piano for a bit when I was a kid so I kind of understood what she was going through.
And her backstory actually made me feel bad for her when I defeated her and realized what I had done with breaking her piano.
All of the flower imagery was also actually beautiful to me.
Also, I didn't like her Mother at first, but after a while she grew on me.
Pun entirely not intented.
3. Tatiana
Tumblr media
The Fiery Former Queen of Rock herself!
I LOVED her boss themes.
At first, I didn't like her personality. But after playing through the game, I ended up getting along with her.
Kind of wish there more villain characters written like her.
Also, her punching Kliff and playing her old guitar made me respect her even more!
I do wish we got to see her during her Kul Fyra days though.
4. EVE
Tumblr media
The Two Faced Heartbroken Psydub Artist
Loved her fighting style and how the stage would alter with her theme song.
Gotta admit, was a bit annoyed with her at first because she blamed Zuke for EVERYTHING that happened to her after SHE technically harmed him with FIRE!
Did like the part where Mayday and Zuke were separated but came back together and EVE was like: WTF?
5. DJ Subatomic Supernova
Tumblr media
Gotta admit... The only reason why he's not at the most bottom is because of his theme song, his voice, and his speeches.
While I do have a soft spot for anything celestial themed, I think DJ SS shouldn't have been the first boss.
6. DK West
Tumblr media
The only thing I even liked were his rap songs. Everything else about him is just terrible.
7. Neon J and 1010
Tumblr media
I am sorry for anyone who actually likes 1010, but I'm just not that much of a fan of the boys.
Neon J I DO like though since that's why I put him first in my rank title for the last one.
I do want to see what he was like back in the day and how he became a cyborg.

✨ My favourite songs of 2022
•Moonbyul feat. Seori - 머리에서 발끝까지 (Shutdown) •Simon Goff feat. Katie Melua - Tbilisi Airport •Alligatoah - Nachbeben •Poldoore feat. ASM - Hourglass •Sunmi - 열이올라요 (Heart Burn) •Vega Trails - Epic Dream •Stromae - La solassitude •Florence and the machine - Daffodil •Danielle Ponder - Fray
(Thoughts and sources below the cut)
Okay, where do I begin?
I feel like reviewing the past year is over and done with. New things are already happening and people want to look forward. Well, at least that’s my impression really.
But why not take the time to reminisce?
Of course it was hard to pick the most favourite songs, and often the ones I pick represent an entire album than just the single song. Which is why I sometimes used the imagery of one video for another song. (x) stands for the source of the gif, often the mv. (song) is only mention if the source differs from the song itself.
Moonbyul feat. Seori - 머리에서 발끝까지 (Shutdown) (x)
Well, sit down, lean back, and let Moonbyul sing you this little chill song. From head to toe is the Korean title of this song. With its cosy visuals and intimate lyrics ‘Shutdown’ tells a story of a sapphic encounter. Seori, with her airy and delicate voice, leads you through the chorus. Shutdown is the single from Moonbyul’s Mini Solo Album “Lunatic”. If you’re interested in a little hip hop infused song, I can also recommend G999 by Moonbyul and Mirani from the same album.
Simon Goff feat. Katie Melua - Tbilisi Airport (x) | (song)
We’ll stay in the light and airy mood. Strings and little guitar melodies surround you now. Katie Melua voice carries questions about the past and future (”I was here” | “Should I move here?”). Tbilisi Airport is the first song of her new album “Aerial Objects”, where she collaborated with the violinist and composer Simon Goff.
Seeing that Katie Melua had a new album out, was a pleasant surprise. I always loved her voice and with each new album she’s finding ways to finetune it, for it to shine brighter. The beautiful string melodies, which accompany her singing throughout the album, elevate it to something magical, and definitely something hard to capture in words.
Alligatoah - Nachbeben (x)
Let’s disrupt the quiet tones now. A deep bass and electric guitar tones, paired with hard hitting rap lines introduce us to this German rap song. In the lyrics Alligatoah confronts us with the attitude of ‘Everything is fine’ ‘I can consume more, work more, watch more.’ He juxtaposes his lyrics with visuals. In the video he embodies a personified dark subconsciousness, that comes to hunt us in our sleep. (”Eines Tages, sagen sie, werden mal deine Träume wahr. Ich hoffe nicht, denn ich träume schwarz - gute Nacht” | They say, some day your dreams will come true. I hope not, because my dreams are dark. Good night!)  His caricature villian reminding us, that we can’t shake off the bad things in life as easily as we like to pretend.
Poldoore feat. ASM (x)
A classic hip hop beat combined with a good flow. A little gem.
Sunmi - 열이올라요 (Heart Burn) (x)
In ‘Heart Burn’ Sunmi is displaying an enticing contrary. While speaking very politely and respectful in her lyrics, in the video she's appearing as a luring siren, seducing men throughout the centuries. What seems to be an empowering role is also a very lonely one. Once again, Sunmi isn't afraid to present us a complex array of ideas in her lyrics and images.
Vega Trails - Epic Dream (x)
The jazz duo, consisting of double-bassist and composer Milo Fitzpatrick and saxophonist Jordan Smart, put out their first collaborative album last year. 'Epic Dream' is their most elaborate track. Here they are move expertly from an easy pace to a vivid back and forth. The two instruments resonating in the large church, where they are recording, making them sound as full and large as the building itself.
Stromae - La Solassitude (x)
I'll keep this one short.
La solassitude is beautiful, heart wrenching, and wonderfully honest.
(If there's someone who hasn't listened to Stromae’s album ‘Multitude’ yet, go ahead and do so! It's worth it.)
Florence and the Machine - Daffodil (x) | (song)
Have you ever heard someone be upset about life giving them hope? That's this song for me!
Danielle Ponder - Fray (x) | (song)
I'm sorry, Danielle, that this gif didn't turn out well. You deserve better!
The singer with the extraordinary voice also has an extraordinary biography. The lawyer decided to turn her passion for singing into a full-time job. The topic of injustice finds its way into her music as well.  She sings about empowerment, joy and endurances. Fray is her most personal song, and although ‘So Long’ is brilliant too, this one just went straight into my heart!
You can read more about her, here.
(I apologize for any mistakes in my writing. At this point I just want this over and done with.)

billy woods & Messiah Musik - Church
(Abstract Hip Hop, Boom Bap, East Coast Hip Hop)
Stepping away from expansive album concepts and looking inwards towards a narrative of heartbreak, politics and faith, billy woods' second album of 2022 explores a vulnerable side of him rarely seen in his expansive discography. It's a thrilling change for a rapper so often shrouded in such mystery.
☆☆☆☆½
Church is the most we've ever learned about billy woods on a single album of his, and that alone is something to get excited about. One of underground hip-hop's most elusive figures, everything about woods comes solely from his music, yet there's an emotionality and warmth to it all nonetheless: his explorations of Blackness and the African diaspora on this April's Aethiopes hid delicate personal moments in the densely packed writing of songs like Remorseless ("The chain say envy, but PTSD keep me countin', never spendin' / My accountant is a head full of bad memories and sad endings") and Asylum ("Downstairs I hear my mother breaking dishes, my father trippin' / It's been quite bad lately, high tension"), and 2019's Hiding Places found a similar balance as he reckoned with poverty and class systems through the cracked lens of Kenny Segal's production ("I'm the feelin' after you killed him and seen the safe empty / The weight lift like payday lendin' / Face twist at the memory," he rapped on the magnificent Speak Gently). In Church, he chooses to do something entirely unexpected from someone who has long been known for his lyrical mystique and thematic fogginess: write straight from his perspective. Though it takes on the same thematic complexity and rich imagery of his past projects, woods focuses here on a breakup which earns a larger role as the catalyst for contemplations on faith, family, and exploitative systems - all familiar themes for woods, but given a sharp personal bent through the lessons his own childhood religiosity taught him and how those memories persist in his world today. He's still a master of his craft, and the unorthodox viewpoints Church injects into his music prove vulnerability and warmth are as important to his work as any of its intellectual elements. Entirely produced by Messiah Musik, who's previously found himself in woods' orbit with his production for Armand Hammer, his murky boom-bap style provides woods' rapping more padding to bounce off of than the colder, emptier atmospheres Aethiopes used to put his storytelling at the forefront. While woods' rapping adds dimensionality and color to Church's world. Messiah's production is the album's beating heart, pushing him into sentimentality with Classical Music's gorgeous piano loop or sneaking in some discomfort with the warped, muted horns in the background of Fever Grass - it might feel underwhelming coming off the tail-end of Aethiopes' blend of dub and blues and 90's boom bap, but by no means are these beats poorly made, not in the slightest. woods also benefits from the smokiness Messiah's sampling style lends to Church, able to stay in his comfort zone of moody confessionals while never being face-to-face with you, Paraquat's dimly-lit halls following woods down roads of heartache ("Loved that girl, but knew we wouldn't work like Harden on the Rockets"), identity ("In DC they called me New York, I didn't correct it") and political allegory ("Whitey hit Hiroshima, then he doubled back / Black rain baptized, black skies / I'm always waiting on the thunderclap") that give greater insight into woods' internal workings without showing you how it all functions in one go. Church, despite its brief 37 minute runtime, unfolds strikingly slowly, patience and understanding rewarded with the same level of passion and gratification as any of his other projects. Hearing woods so stripped-back is an odd thing at first, but what it brings to the table is a level of radiance and expansion his emotional moments have never been treated to until now. There've always been undercurrents of trauma and mental hardship in his work, but it's always been put into the context of a broader idea: the dupes of capitalism, African identity, imperialism and revolution. Here, those ideas are slid underneath naked accounts of love and loss, Schism memorializing grief and artistic security as he flashes back to leaving a woman's sorrow out of his raps yet needing his music as a space of creative safety ("The shit I wrote, can't do it on a phone / ...The sadness in her eyes, I left it off the page") and Artichoke finding a similar kind of reminiscence as he drifts back into childhood ("It's certain things you can only learn from a fist fight / I used to use a toothbrush to keep my kicks white, it mattered that much") and then connects it to contemporary tensions between the long-standing harshness of hip-hop culture and its relation to LGBT communities, woods still aware of his music's inextricable connection to sociopolitical issues but emphasizing his personal intersections with them rather than the inverse. Detailed as ever, Church's fragmented framework of emotions and the real-world events that compound them helps to support what his previous album perfected, a companion piece for Aethiopes that explores what comes to the individual alongside widespread societal struggles. Desire and connection have never sounded so fundamentally to woods' music like it does here: even as he pricks the same veins as his previous projects, there's something infinitely more tender about hearing him remember where each chip bag was in the hospital vending machine or the innate discomfort of visiting his cousin's tumultuous home, opening up more directly than ever before and letting his emotions guide him in a way that's incredibly unguarded yet wholly confident. His skill as a rapper and storyteller will always hold his music high, Church an opportunity for him to try something new after a string of conceptually ambitious and technically marvelous projects. billy woods isn't trying anything too out of the ordinary, but he doesn't have to: the power of his words on top of rock-solid beats is more than enough to make every moment land with conviction and unending empathy.

Porch Talk || Accepting
Oh boy, in the most Quantum Leap sense of the words. This is hard because my partners are always an inspiration, and I love them and their muses like I love my own children, and can immerse myself in whatever fictional reality we've built. So sometimes my most tried and true way of getting through a bout of writer's block or rp paralysis, is using my tarot deck {The Llewellyn tarot imagery is based around the Mabinogion, and Welsh-prominent Celtic mythology}. I'll give them a good shuffle while considering where I am at in the story/post, draw one or more as needed as sort of a guide. Sometimes, if that doesn't do it for me {and it usually does}, I'll dive into my bookshelves. Rabbit is fond of the programmer's saying of "garbage in, garbage out", and if I haven't read in a while, this usually renews my inspiration and imagination, especially if what I am consuming has to do with the fandom or genre I am writing. When it comes to ships, I'm more music oriented. I have a huge range of tastes from classical, to rap, to heavy metal, to country. Music and words are constantly on when I am writing, and every partner has at least one playlist of inspirational music, movie clips, etc. that I constantly update. Same could be said with verses and genres, music is a huge part of it. As is reading genre adjacent materials. Sometimes this can be detrimental because I do have ADHD and can sometimes hyperfocus. And then, if all else fails...and you're probably going to laugh, but. Hear me out. So over my lifetime I've collected huge troves of table-top role-playing games; everything White Wolf published before they fell to the Wyrm and published their 'new' world of darkness. And then again when Onyx Publishing decided to put out their 20th anniversary lines. 2nd, 3.5, and unfortunately, 4th Edition Dungeons & Dragons before I just gave up or was saved by Paizo's Pathfinder, which was everything good about 3.5 with a new setting and heroes. Call of Cthulu, etc. I'll pour through some source materials/campaign books/splat books, etc... and choose a scene or scenario and then twist it onto its side, change details as needed, and voila! A new post or RP chapter.

2 Baddies: ranking.
I miss intros and outros... bring them back, SM.
After the 2nd and the 3d listen I can divide the songs.
Disclaimer: Don't be affected by someone else's taste. Like what you like. If you enjoy a song you see lukewarm reviews of, continue to enjoy it and pay no mind to opinions of others. We all experience things differently.
I like the album more than Sticker. I still think several songs sound too NCT Dream, that's my grief with them. It's not like the songs are bad(ly done), but they equal the absence of several "only 127 can" songs (instead of them), and we get a 127 album once a year. 127 should sing "more grown up", i.e. sophisticated or experimental, daring songs, heh.
Top tier: Time Lapse, Gold Dust, Black Clouds, 1,2,7 (Time stops)
Middle tier: Faster, 2Baddies, Tasty
Bottom tier: Crash Landing (sorry, Doyoung), Designer, Playback
Why? tier: Vitamin, LOL
I don't like a stranger man's voice in "Faster" (it doesn't sound like an edited neo's voice). I want to hear 127, not some unrelated people. Well... let's pretend it's the Panda man.
To be honest, without the chorus 2Baddies would be in the top tier. But the chorus is boring (yes, I know, it's there for i-fans to shout along). Never was a fan of a chorus making 2/3 of a song. The chorus disrupts the flow for me.
The moment Time Lapse started I forgave SM the last two years, lol. It is my new favourite 127 song.
Gold Dust shows off vocals, plus I appreciate the concept. The title is "gold dust" and the song reflects the imagery: it's light, airy, like a dust dancing in a ray of light. Music is supposed to paint pictures, and classic music did that (battles, tragedy, a storm, sorrow, a flight of a bee, etc), but nowadays it's all about bits, the melody and its expressiveness is dying.
Black Clouds is a song to sing during concerts with the audience. Same as Dreams come true, but this time around it's done so throughly, I can't even complain. It is an honest group friendly quality song, easy to listen to, but being classy about it.
Tasty is an example of a nice song, which is not spicy enough (and thus not very memorable). There is no "oomph" Kitchen Bit or My Van have.
In my humble opinion, songs like Vitamin don't deserve 127 and the rap/vocal lines. Leave them to 4gen newly debuted groups. 1,2,7 (Time Stops) is also a simple fanservice song, but it lets neos show off their skills, so the simple music doesn't matter as there are many interesting things happen vocally.

modern classical, for healing
Tumblr media
#118, by d'Eon
...i can't believe i found out about this song from a shitpost.
my very, very early years were frequently soundtracked by classical music. the more well known stuff either just from music history whatevershit or like from film scores. it imprinted on me more than i thought much as i dont really go there often. i find it peaceful, i always have. i guess i was put onto it for BRAIN REASONS or whatever the hell instead of listening to RAP MUSIC or whatever the heck, lol.
i have a lot of strong feelings for #118. i feel serene when i listen. like, nothing is wrong, i guess. it doesn't delude me into thinking i'm not struggling, but it provides me with enough strength while listening that everything i'm going through just doesn't feel as terrible and scary and huge while im just, in the space that the song creates.
the religious imagery on display also compliments everything nicely, i think, as well.
not much else to say, it's just really pleasant. would recommend if you like...classical? not sure what else to say there.

2023 Year End List - #19
Tumblr media
19. Aleatoriamente - Rodrigo Ogi
Main genres: Conscious Rap, Hardcore Rap, Electronic
A decent sampling of: Experimental Rap, Industrial Hip Hop, Horrorcore, Abstract Rap, Grime, Vanguarda Paulista
This will be the first of many obscure picks on my list this year (or at least, obscure for a North American audience).
2023 seemed to be chock-full of all these little oddities that I came across by chance and ended up falling in love with. And hey, I love getting to be the ambassador that champions an awesome underground or foreign act to the uninitiated.
Rodrigo Ogi is a Brazilian rapper from São Paulo, who very much falls under the same archetype of the 'bleak, introspective, gritty story-teller rapper poet with weird-ass production' that can be found in the contemporary works of certain rappers such as the elusive Billy Woods, or Clippng's own celebrated Daveed Diggs.
If you're a real nerd for these hip hop underdogs then you should definitely be adding Ogi to your radar. The dude has a very raspy delivery and a distinctly off-kilter melodic flow, though I wouldn't exactly call him a singer.
Ogi has been putting out records very sparsely, between releasing mostly singles, since at least 2011. As the guy is Brazilian, not really known much at all in the anglosphere, and I am personally neither fluent in Portuguese nor on that side of the internet, a lot of the rest of his information was hard to find outside of what I could gather from his socials. But the dude seems pretty chill.
On his latest LP Aleatoriamente (meaning randomly), Rodrigo Ogi implements sharp, buzzing electronic production with a dystopian, cyberpunk jungle-like atmosphere, and blends that with beats and flows inspired by traditional Brazilian rhythms, all under some clear horrorcore and grime influences. He pumps his flows full of dark humour, macabre and sometimes plain gross imagery, references to pop culture icons, and commentary on social malaise.
The record opens with "Rotina", which translates to "routine" but I coulda sworn it meant "rotten" because this beat feels absolutely filthy, evoking some nasty doom and despair with those electric stabs.
"Valha-me" begins with all the adrenaline rush of what I imagine trying to find the exit in a collapsing building might feel like. The fast-pace, paranoid itch of a beat feels like the skitters of a rodent crawling through sewer pipes; fittingly, Ogi describes someone who has been condemned to a festering hell swimming with rats. Pure macabre.
Another major highlight is the track "Peixe", a fascinating beast featuring a complex, shuffling rhythm that combines breakbeats with Brazilian acoustic percussion, while Ogi raps with guest singer Tulipa Ruiz about a man attempting to cheat the personified death.
"Metamorfose" concocts a nightmare of gastrointestinal body horror, as it tells the tale of someone panicking with a bomb about to go off in their gut (I'll let you guess as to what this could be a metaphor for). The concept is honestly hilarious, but it also makes good on its motive to turn this into a real psychological horror scene, complete with bouncing beats that almost sound like their chattering in demonic gibberish, and regular cuts to a set of classic B-movie horror striking staccato strings. Brilliant and fucked up little track.
There are moments where Rodrigo Ogi's delivery is a bit shrill - The man's got a really unique flow, which I appreciate in a world where a lot of modern rappers just copy the same five big names with little to no variation, and his grotesque delivery works well on the more harsh tracks. But there are moments on more melodic cuts from the LP that feel a little held back by a lack of variation in his vocal stylings.
But overall, I am really impressed with this record. There is so much freshness in Rodrigo Ogi's sound, and Aleatoriamente has opened up a whole new world of hip hop for me. I think I'll make it one of my goals next year to check out more of the hip hop and just music in generall coming out of Brazil; from what I can tell, it might just be the most musically diverse country on Earth.
8/10
Highlights: "Valha-me", "Metamorfose", "Peixe", "Rotina", "Saudade"

Module 8
1. Marigold - It Dies Today (earth) (metalcore)
2. Picture to Burn - Taylor Swift (fire) (country)
3. A Match Into Water - Pierce the Veil (water and fire) (rock)
4. The Ocean - Against Me (water) (punk)
5. In the Air - Rico Nasty (air) (rap)
6. Brooklyn is Burning - Head Automatica (fire) (electronic rock)
The theme of my playlist is elements. Fire, water, earth, and air.
“Marigold” by It Dies Today is reminiscent of a past relationship. The lyrics consist of metaphors that reflect how the two have changed, and how the singer wishes for things to be back to the way they were. “And still the seasons change, and with it does your charm” references how things, and people, tend to change as time moves forward. The seasons reference also ties into the elemental theme - just as people change as time moves forward, so does the earth we live on. The leaves fall, the leaves die, and new leaves are grown. Just like us.
“Picture to Burn” by Taylor Swift is a classic break up song. She is reminiscing on all the bad parts of the relationship in order to move on. She writes “as far as I’m concerned, you’re just another picture to burn.” This reflects the idea that now the relationship is in the past, and is just another experience to move on from. When fire burns, it turns things to ash, turns things to pretty much nothing, which is representative of how that relationship has moved on and now means nothing.
“Brooklyn is Burning” by Head Automatica uses imagery to describe a club where the dancing is so hot that the club is - metaphorically - on fire. “Brooklyn is burning down the discotheque, discotheque, let’s shake it” and “Brooklyn is burning and by fireside, fireside, we’re dancing” use the fiery imagery to show how hot and pumped up the club is, that they are still dancing even though the place is burning down around them.
“In the Air” by Rico Nasty is about having so much money you can toss it around without a care in the world. “So much money in the air, in the air, air” is meant to be taken literally. The song follows the classic rap theme of bragging about having a lot of money and being able to toss it around, because there’s so much of it that it flies around, similar to how birds and butterflies fly around in the air.
“A Match Into Water” by Pierce the Veil was written about a guy whose partner has cancer, and how he would do anything to save her from it. “How does it feel? Well it feels like I’m on fire” describes how painful the situation is for the singer, comparing his suffering to the pain of burning alive. The title reflects the idea of putting out the suffering by saving her, similar to how throwing a match into water would put out the flame. He writes “The chemicals will bring you home again” meaning that hopefully the treatment will save her from an unfortunate passing.
“The Ocean” by Against Me is about the singer’s desire to have been born a woman, and uses imagery by describing how she yearns to be part of the ocean. “There is an ocean in my soul where the waters do not curve,” is repeated as the song’s outro, and can be interpreted to mean that the artist feels like she is the ocean deep down.

For my themed playlist, I have chosen the theme of "journey." This theme is relevant to me because I love to travel and explore new places. Additionally, I believe that life itself is a journey, full of twists and turns, ups and downs, and unexpected detours. The unifying idea behind this playlist is the idea of movement, whether it be physical or emotional.
"Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey (Rock) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1k8craCGpgs This classic rock anthem is the perfect starting point for my playlist. The song's driving beat and soaring melody evokes the feeling of embarking on a great adventure. The song's structure is simple, with a verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus format. The chord progression is fairly simple, centered around the key of E major. The lyrics are full of hope and optimism, urging the listener to "hold on to that feeling" of possibility and excitement.
"Route 66" by Nat King Cole (Jazz) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCYApJtsyd0 This jazz standard celebrates the iconic American highway that stretches from Chicago to Los Angeles. The song's swinging rhythm and bluesy melody evoke the feeling of cruising down an open road. The song's structure is based on a 12-bar blues progression, with a simple AAB form. The lyrics describe the landmarks and attractions along Route 66, such as St. Louis, Joplin, and Oklahoma City.
"Empire State of Mind" by Jay-Z feat. Alicia Keys (Hip Hop/Rap) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vk6014HuxcE This hip-hop anthem pays tribute to New York City, the ultimate destination for many dreamers and strivers. The song's melody is based on a sample from the 1970 song "Love on a Two-Way Street" by The Moments. The song's structure is fairly complex, with a chorus that changes slightly each time it appears, as well as several verses that tell the story of Jay-Z's rise to fame in the Big Apple. The lyrics are full of references to New York landmarks and culture, from Yankee Stadium to Broadway.
"Take Me Home, Country Roads" by John Denver (Country) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vrEljMfXYo This country classic celebrates the beauty and simplicity of rural life. The song's melody is based on a simple chord progression in the key of A major. The song's structure is straightforward, with a verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus format. The lyrics describe the landscape and culture of West Virginia, where Denver grew up. The song has a nostalgic and wistful tone as if the singer is longing to return to a simpler time and place.
"Homeward Bound" by Simon & Garfunkel (Folk) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAnj2fyjxRw This folk ballad tells the story of a traveler who is longing to return home. The song's melody is based on a simple acoustic guitar riff, which repeats throughout the song. The song's structure is based on a verse-chorus-verse-chorus format, with a brief instrumental break between the second and third verses. The lyrics are full of vivid imagery, describing the sights and sounds of the journey, as well as the yearning for the comfort of home.
"On the Road Again" by Willie Nelson (Blues/Country) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBN86y30Ufc This country-blues classic celebrates the joys of life on the road. The song's melody is based on a simple chord progression in the key of C major. The song's structure is based on a verse-chorus-verse-chorus format, with a brief instrumental break between the second and third verses. The lyrics describe the excitement and adventure of touring and performing, as well as the camaraderie of the musicians on the road.
In conclusion, my playlist showcases a diverse range of genres and musical styles, all tied together through the theme journey.
