Prof Scarborough surveyed 55,000 people who were divided into big meat-eaters, who ate more than 100g of meat a day, which equates to a big burger, low meat-eaters, whose daily intake was 50g or less, approximately a couple of chipolata sausages, fish-eaters, vegetarians and vegans.
The analysis is the first to look at the detailed impact of diets on other environmental measures all together. These are land use, water use, water pollution and loss of species, usually caused by loss of habitat because of expansion of farming. In all cases high meat-eaters had a significantly higher adverse impact than other groups.

I found this image in this blog post from Judith Curry in 2019 analyzing whether recent hurricanes had been exacerbated by global warming. The infographic is attributed to Roy Spencer. The blog’s about page reads:
Climate Etc. provides a forum for climate researchers, academics and technical experts from other fields, citizen scientists, and the interested public to engage in a discussion on topics related to climate science and the science-policy interface.
You are free to share or remix anything from Climate Etc., following the guidelines of Creative Commons.
Climate Etc. is hosted by Judith Curry.

climate activism is so important and something I care deeply about - that being said, why is it always your most annoying middle class friends who make it their entire personality despite doing nothing of note to make a difference

i hate the "who is responsible for climate change" infographic post that's now going around again because of haikubot, like while the info on it is accurate and the basic message is about how it's massive corporations fault it is STILL literally just an ad for a mobile app which is almost entirely about personal changes (it's an app for tracking YOUR carbon footprint and u get paid money for buying sustainable products or some shit), they still advocate for individualism and the info graphic has absolutely zero valuable information on what to actually do to combat climate change (it is not tracking your carbon footprint and buying sustainable products to get paid for doing that btw) and what to do against those oil giants.
like pls share infographics from actual activist groups and maybe ngos if you really want to, but not from fucking private companies advertising their product at the end of it that just reifies the idea that personal carbon footprint means literally anything if ur not like a multi millionaire

Underwater noise comes from a number of sources - including ships. This infographic, produced for the Clean Arctic Alliance, illustrates how it badly impacts a wide range of marine wildlife.

next time someone in Arts or Humanities smugly posts about how scientists need to learn to Communicate Ideas, I would like to politely ask them when the last time was they sat down with a scientist and offered to learn about their work and translate it to Revolutionary Media
Bc I know they haven't done that, bc they would have realized Science is 99.99% boring, slow, arguable minutae. It's not a fucking cOmMuNiCaTiON PrObLeM, it's a fucking FACT
Also, trying to take every scientific finding and mold it into propaganda is BAD SCIENCE
It is also DANGEROUS
Now, what I ***think*** a lot of these people mean is, there is a lot of anti-science conservative pro-capitalism propaganda, so why aren't scientists creating more pro-science pro-revolutionary society propaganda?? And honestly, here's why: it's not. Our job. IT'S NOT OUR JOB. that's what PR people and politicians do!!!! Go yell at them to talk to scientists and then craft infographics for the masses!!!
Also, we do try to talk about hard truths. We DO.
Climate change? We knew about it. We have BEEN talking about it. And there have been economic giants in power that have been silencing us for decades!!
3rd reason: even if you could get every scientist in a room to TRY to decide what the Big Science Decree should be, we wouldn't be able to AGREE. Because scientific discovery is about weird, hard, messy reality that doesn't always fucking support the ideals you wish it would.
They way some people talk, they seem to want scientists to be *influencers* and I just.... 😤🙏 That's not. Our job. FUCK.
