Tigerclaw and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Senior Warrior Position AU
In a world where deputies can only be named after their first apprentice has been granted their warrior name, Tigerclaw struggles to keep an apprentice alive long enough to earn their name.
or, a comedy-tragedy AU in which having an apprentice isn't enough — you have to see them to their warrior name, and Tigerclaw cannot fucking get any of his goddamn apprentices to live, damn it.
It starts out mostly normally, except for the fact that Tigerclaw hasn't gotten any apprentices to their warrior name, and he needs that so he can accomplish his (very noble, of course) kitty genocide goals. And also be the supreme leader of the world or something. Darkpaw died stupidly, he hasn't had a chance since, and now he's got some tiny thing that's afraid of his own shadow.
Well. It'll have to do.
So naturally this man is so protective over Ravenpaw that Ravenpaw barely even leaves his sight. Firepaw and Graypaw think that this is adorable. Look how much Tigerclaw cares about his apprentice!!
Ravenpaw, of course, is fucking terrified and also slowly losing his mind, just in a different way.
"Redtail assigned us to go on a patrol to Snakerocks." "OH NO HE DID NOT. WE'RE STAYING IN THE SANDY HOLLOW WHERE IT'S SAFE."
"Nothing matters more to me than making you a warrior, Ravenpaw. Nothing." And the terrible thing is that Ravenpaw is sure he's being sincere.
Ravenpaw disappears and Tigerclaw nearly fucking has a conniption because the timing was all RIGHT and he was going to finally get the position AND HE NEVER GOT HIS DAMN NAME FUCK.
"Do you think I could convince the elders that Fireheart was my apprentice?" "Fireheart was Bluestar's apprentice, as approved by StarClan. You're going to have to wait for the next litter to be apprenticed."
So he begs and begs and gets Cinderpaw and then she accidentally falls into the trap he'd set for a better deputy candidate at the Thunderpath. Fuck.
Well. Time to resort to drastic measures.
"I was thinking that Darkstripe would have been a good name. Because he had dark stripes." "Again, Tigerclaw, it's admirable that you loved your apprentice so much, but I cannot grant him a name." "Are you sure?" "Honestly, Tigerclaw, I'm not sure he ever would have gotten a name. Missing quite a few feathers from his nest, that one..." Fuck. The worst part was that she wasn't even wrong.
— Swiftpaw and Brightpaw get mauled by the dogs he set up to happen like right after he got the title and they sprang it before and he's like FUCK NOW WHAT DO I DO WITH THESE DAMN DOGS? His world domination plans literally never come to fruition because he cannot keep his apprentices alive/in the clan/his own.
— "Brightheart counts. She HAS to count." "Actually, Cloudtail took over her training…" [demented noises]
Turns out that Ravenpaw is alive and no one — no one — in the Harper Collins Extended Universe is happier than Tigerclaw.
"You're alive! …You deserve your warrior name!" "Actually, I've come to peace with my name and my way of life. I have no need for a—" "GET YOUR FUCKING NAME RIGHT NOW RAVENPAW OR SO HELP ME STARCLAN—" "I know you really wanted Ravenpaw to become a warrior," Barley says gently, "but he's made his decision. It's very kind of you to acknowledge that he deserves it, though. You must have been so close as mentor and apprentice." Tigerclaw's eye twitches. "Yes. Close. Very... close." —
He finally, finally retires as an elder after his plans go absolutely nowhere for years on end. And maybe StarClan is still like "Brambleclaw would be chill actually, we can forget that pesky little law" and Tigerclaw is sitting there like "excuse me what the actual fuck?" —
But at this point Tigerclaw is about as dangerous as Ashfur without a freak forest fire. Which is to say about as dangerous as using a leaf as a weapon. Which is, incidentally, how Darkpaw managed to get himself killed in the first place.
"Is this the Dark Forest? This has to be the Dark Forest. It doesn't look like Thistleclaw described it, but it must be. This Clan is all an elaborate punishment meted down by StarClan for my sins." "Tigerclaw, sir, I'm just here to help you with your ticks. See? I have the mousebile right here." "…Yes, thank you, Alderpaw." — Graystripe joins him in the elder's den and he's like, "You know, Ravenpaw thought you were up to some… scheme, back in the day. Crazy, right? You've been a model Clanmate as long as I've been alive." [muffled screaming] "Huh, what do you think that is? It sounds almost like someone killed a rabbit, but they know not to come this close to camp…"

Does Cloudtail count as firekin or is he just there?
Firestar botched his claiming of the Queen's Rights, he showed up and immediately explained that the child was his nephew. To claim them, you cannot publicly reveal any information about the children's parentage, as the rights exist exactly to squash such discussion.
So Bluestar "compromised," but really it was more of a reward. He would be responsible for Cloudkit, and become his mentor when he came of age to ensure he would become a good Clan cat.
So Cloudtail is a strange situation where he isn't Firekin, but is heavily associated with them. "AncestorKin" refers to a common ancestor and those directly below them.
Graykin = Bumblestripe, Briar, Blossom, Plumstone, Shellfur, Stemleaf, his newborns
Dapplekin = Graystripe, Cricketclaw, Darkstripe, Bumblestripe, Blossomfall, etc etc
Tawnykin = Thrushpelt, Dappletail, Graystripe, Cricketclaw, etc etc
I made a note of this in the ThunderClan family tree, too, so that hopefully the term as I use it makes sense. Cloudtail also got his descendant list MASSIVELY shaved down, with many of his children being surrogated for cats in other Clans. One was kept of each litter.
Whitewing (alive, has descendants)
Foxleap (Taken from DustFern; died of infection from wounds acquired in the Battle of the True Eclipse, lamented as he looked a lot like Firestar)
Icecloud (Also taken from DustFern; shuffled to be born after the great battle, named after Iceheart who died in the BotTE, alive)

How come Hollystar got her 9 lives after the great battle but Harestar didn't? And why would anyone follow Darktail after he killed Onestar!? Or was that a secret harestar kept to himself on how his dad died?
Hollystar gets hers during the Great Battle to honor Firestar's dying wish and being right there next to the Moonpool. Jayfeather knows they're about to lose access to StarClan when they defeat the Dark Forest, so against his better judgement he allows Hollyleaf to connect with their ancestors one last time. Of the thousands of ancestors fighting, nine of the cats who had died in the battle by that point come forward to give what many think will be the final gifting of nine lives.
Hollystar's nine lives come from...
Stormheart - Life for Diligence
Petalnose - Life for Protection
Otterheart - Life for Fearlessness
Tornear - Life for Strength
Applefur - Life for Open-mindedness
Cedarheart - Life for Fortitude
Leafpool - Life for Empathy
Firestar - Life for Honesty
Brambleclaw - Life for Love
Harespring is too weak to travel to the Moonpool from where he is, much less have the strength to leave his father's side. Him and Onestar were particularly close, and no one expected Onestar to die considering he still had a considerable amount of lives left. If Jayfeather knew, he likely would've tried to get Harespring his as well before the connection was broken, just as he strived to do for his sister.
It should also be noted that Jayfeather is not being objective - like ultimately the arguably best course of action is to close the connection as soon as possible and halt the battle NOW, but he is written to be, while snappy and standoffish, incredibly emotional and is very swayed when put face to face with someone's troubles. He couldn't close the door on his sister even if it meant ending things, and while he does once she's safe and sound, he illogically delays ending the connection to ensure Hollyleaf returns to them with her nine lives. This is, while a charming trait at times, also a flaw of Jayfeather's as he is the complete opposite of Chi's bizarrely playful apathy.
As for following Darktail - it's much less about Darktail and much more about the hopelessness the clans feel after the battle. They fought and fought, but here stood WindClan without a leader - sure Harespring is the rightful leader, but with no nine lives many question if they should follow him. Furthermore many members of the clans, while happy to be alive, now feel as if they're no different than rogues or any other cat. AVoS in my rewrite is meant to really draw attention to the amount of xenophobia the clans feel and how they put themselves above others by validation of StarClan. Cats like Cloudtail understand the meaning of being a clan cat, but others think none of it matters without their ancestors there. As such many of the cats who follow Darktail are young, inexperienced, and begin to wonder if Darktail has a point. After all, even if he killed Onestar, StarClan didn't give them a new leader, so perhaps this is too twisted fate. While certainly not the majority of people follow Darktail, in fact it's a very small minority and not all of ShadowClan turning on Rowanstar in this, he strives to continue rebuilding The Kin, which stands for something many of the cats now find intriguing once the dust settles.
Tumblr media
In Alderpaw's case, he sees the horrific state many of the cats are in, some more hostile towards the clan than others, and wishes to help them, partly out of a motivation to reason with Darktail and his goons rather than attack the clans when weakest as Darktail had planned. What's even more surprising is when Darktail actually takes young Alderpaw up on this...

The idea of an exiled Clan, that, no matter what its members do, slowly falls apart fascinates me.
The sheer potential for storytelling. The exploration of the characters' grief for the lost home, their fury at the other Clans' betrayal, the fear and desperation as the rats, floods, predators, hunger and sickness bring down their numbers one by one... Sky, the last member, completely alone, trying to keep the traditions and customs of the doomed SkyClan alive, but knowing his time's running out and that, when he dies, so will his Clan...
Then, all of a sudden, there's hope. Cats want to join the new SkyClan, his neighbors begin to be curious about his beliefs and traditions, there's now someone keeping him company. Skywatcher lived alone for most of his life, but now he has cats who love him or, at least, appreciate him. And, more symbolically, his name. For most of his life, his name was Sky, a reminder of what he never had, the last member of a forgotten Clan. But now, it's Skywatcher, rare as the -watcher suffix is, it's a Clan name, he has a Clan, SkyClan is alive.
Plus, the little detail that "Skywatcher" can mean looking at the sky, literally, or it can mean... watching over SkyClan, like a newly named warrior does on their vigil.
But, no matter how much I love SkyClan, I don't like Firestar's Quest.
The Firestar of this book is great. He's back to his shenanigans of defying StarClan to do the right thing and he even admits he misses his humans. I think the way he teaches Sparrowpelt and Cherrytail is a nice contrast to the way he teaches Cloudtail in Rising Storm. He's much more patient, and tries to give them good reasons for why they shouldn't do something (like bullying Sky, he gives them good examples of why Sky doesn't deserve their mockery).
But aside from that, this book is awful.
Firestar doesn't get over Spottedleaf, and Sandstorm has to resign herself to her husband still not being over his childhood crush on her fucking aunt (Redtail, Sandstorm's father, is littermates with Spottedleaf). The towncats don't have culture, the threat SkyClan faces is nothing anyone couldn't have solved (which actually can fall under the White Savior trope), Firestar learns nothing (I was partial to him realizing he can have a paw in both worlds, because there's no explanation to why he can't, so why can't that law be a method of control?), and the whole book stinks of colonialism.
There's nothing being replaced, like what the colonizers told themselves. They're bringing culture, instead of destroying the culture that already exists to replace it with their own.
Maybe I'm looking too much into things, but point is I don't like it.
(Details for the AU under the cut)
So, for the Blazing Sky AU, I'm gonna make a list of the things I want to change.
SkyClan isn't forgotten. The Forest Four remember and justify their exile, and the cats that live close to the gorge remember the "cats with cool names" that used to be their neighbors. This is important.
Rainfur, now Rainbloom to avoid conflict with the TC Rainfur from Goosefeather's Curse (and because we need more boys with flower/plant names), is named in honor of SkyClan and the cats from the gorge. His mother gave him a Clan name knowingly and on purpose. It's unknown wether she did it because she liked the names, or because someone important to her was a cat from the gorge. Either way, it's likely Rainbloom doesn't have SkyClan blood.
Echosong has SkyClan blood, but here she has training as a medic before she joins SkyClan. She's asked to join by someone, maybe Princess/Creekshine or Petalnose, instead of being guided there by dreams.
In general, many members of Modern SkyClan have Ancient SkyClan ancestry. Most, however, do not, or at least one that isn't known. This is something I want to make sure is clear. A Clan is a community, and the message is more powerful if not everyone has SkyClan blood, and instead came together to take care of each other, regardless of background, because that's what a community is for.
SkyClan diverges a lot from the Forest Four. Their ancestors followed a different, older version of the warrior code, and Modern SkyClan will add, remove and edit laws as they see fit.
Everything the members of the new Clan learn about Ancient SkyClan will be through Skywatcher, or a relative of theirs.
The cats have holidays and parties. There must be more to life than hunting and patrolling, or else there's no point in becoming part of a Clan.
The cats from town have different accents and some words differ a lot, but generally understand each other. However, the Clans have a different language due to their isolation.
Terms are changed. Seasons, cars, roads and the like are referred to by their human names, medicine cats are seers (and medics after the role splits in two in SkyClan). The Clans still use greenleaf, leafbare and the like, to point out the use of different languages.
The kitty xenophobia is called out, Daylight warriors are back, and Ancient SkyClan blood isn't necessary to join Modern SkyClan.
More varied familial relationships without neglecting friendships.
The cats outside the Clans have civilization and culture.
Queer cats, queer relationships and disabled characters my beloved.
The rats stay, I can't remove something so silly and funny and forgive myself for it, but they are getting significantly overhauled.
More or less, this is everything I'm changing about Firestar's Quest (aside from the obvious of Rusty/Firestar being younger and joining SkyClan instead of ThunderClan and Princess, Oliver and Smudge being there). I'll get into the details in another post.
I should probably explain the rats, instead of acting like everyone knows what's gonna happen...

You've already mentioned that if Tadpole survived then they would all be loners and Brambleclaw wouldn't be leader but what if Tadpole did survive and Sasha still took them to the Clans. I think Tadpole's death had a really big effect on Moth and Hawk so I'd like to see your take
OK so for this one I’m going to ask you to believe i-dont-remember-whose analysis of Hawkfrost personnality.
That guy whose name idr said that basically, due to abandonment issues and all, Hawkfrost is a people pleasers, so basically: Tawnypelt said she didn’t want anything to do with him, he let her in peace. Mothwing lets slip she wants to become a medicine cat, he fabricates a sign. Brambleclaw wants to become deputy then leader well guess what. (in a way, Mudclaw wants to believe he’s the rightful deputy, Hawkfrost manipulates him and helps him with his coup, etc)
The rest of that personnality however hinges on the fact that once he pleased those people he expects them to give him something back: Tawnypelt not to tell people on him about the DF (which she doesn’t), Mudclaw and Mothwing, to lend him their influences (Mothwing lied about a sign, Mudclaw would have taken Hawkfrost in Windclan) and Brambleclaw to help him conquer the clan (at this point he was suspecting that not everyone worked the way he did so he asked Brambleclaw to prove his loyalty to him by killing Firestar, which both served Brambleclaw’s presumed plan and proved Hawkfrost that he was on his side).
So... if Tadpoletail had been a Riverclan warrior like his siblings, what would have happened? Well like any clancat or almost, Tadpolepaw would probably have said at some point that he wanted to be leader one day. Hawkfrost will then strive to make his brother leader and then become his deputy. Stormkit/Oakkit style, except Hawkfrost is the kind of guy to dirty his paws in the process.
So anyway. Same upbringing, same issues, same not clanborn status, same kin... I think Tadpoletail wouldn’t mind becoming leader even when he outgrew his apprentice phase. Whether or not he is ok to dirty his own paws in the process is the diverging point.
Path 1: Tadpoletail refuses to use violence and treachery to ascend to power.
Hawkfrost didn’t ask Mothwing what means she accepted before fabricating the sign. But here it’s different. Tadpole is not their sister, who is so noble and loyal and wants to do things by the rules. Tadpole is his brother and a warrior and he probably already fought fiercely for his clan and why wouldn’t he agree?
Hawkfrost tells Tadpole about how, now that Mistyfoot’s gone, they should seize power for themselves. He will make a sign about Tadpoletail (because a tadpole is easier to catch than a hawk mind you) and when Leopardstar dies, Tadpoletail will name Hawkfrost his deputy. Deal? No! Not deal! Mistyfoot might still be alive, you can’t fake a sign, yadda yadda, tst how boring that his brother is so loyal and nobler-than-thou...
But here’s the jist: Tadpoletail is now a liability for Hawkfrost. So what does he do? Well he traps him somewhere and leaves him there to die.
A twolegs passes by, sees a wounded cat, takes him to the cages. I would argue that Tadpoletail’s cage makes one more cat to free and so he is taken prisonner with Graystripe, then refuses to leave the twolegs’ den and stays a kittypet for ever, blissfully aware he could do worse, like for example be trapped with his brother or dead in a ditch.
However while in his cage, Tadpoletail talked to Mistyfoot and told her about Hawkfrost and how he tried to kill him. He tells that to everyone in the cages in case some die there, in case he dies there, so that the truth has a chance to come out.
After the release, Leafpaw, Brightheart, Gorsetail, Cloudtail etc go with MIstyfoot to tell Leopardstar about Hawkfrost’s treachery. In the absence of Tadpoletail himself, there’s no proof they aren’t all lying to support Mistyfoot’s claim on deputyship.
Here’s where Leoaprdstar’s personnality comes into play: she is still hurting and atoning from Stonefur’s death. She is neither going to unjustly imprison Hawkfrost if there’s a chance it’s unjust, nor going to accept other clans’ influences on the matter.
But she cannot demote Mistyfoot like that either. Because again, Stonefur.
So the status quo stays like that during the Great Journey. But this time, she’s watching for Hawkfrost. So when he brings his support to Mudclaw and goes to fight in the Windclan Succesion War, she agrees that he’s untrustworthy, and she exiles him.
He either tries to kill her, or he goes to THunderclan, contacts Brambleclaw, conspires to make him a deputy then a leader and then join his clan. HOwever in both cases, he needs to kill a leader to get his plan through, and in both cases, he is defeated and dies.
Path 2: Tadpoletail is totally onboard with violence and treachery.
However, before becoming deputies, they need apprentices. So he suggests that they bond with Mosspelt’s kits: Minnowkit, Tumblekit, Pebblekit.
Keeping such a watchful eyes on them, they find the twolegs’ liquid and prevent them from drinking it. They are acclaimed as clan heroes for finding the source of the illness, Tumblekit doesn’t die, and Willowkit/shine doesn’t have the opportunity to discover her vocation as a medicine cat.
Pebblepaw is apprenticed to Hawkfrost, and Tumblepaw to Tadpoletail.
Given that he’s busy with Tadpoletail’s and his ambitions, Hawkfrost doesn’t meddle with THunderclan politics. Brambleclaw is made deputy because of Leafpool’s vision, but Firestar doesn’t lose a life in the foxtrap.
Mistyfoot just so happen to have an... accident between arcs. We open the Sight with Tadpoletail as riverclan deputy and Hawkfrost and him still plotting to make Leopardstar’s life slightly shorter than it should be in order for Tadpolestar to make Hawkfrost his deputy.
But Leopardstar is clinging to life, and Tadpoletail doesn’t want to take the risk to reveal to everyone their treachery. So he exhorts Hawkfrost to patience. And Hawkfrost starts to believe that Tadpoletail is just trying to block him from power because of jealousy or something.
So Hawkfrost kills Tadpoletail, maybe around Eclipse when no one knows who’s fighting who (just like he tried to kill Brambleclaw when he didn’t correspond to his idealization of the ambitious brother who would reign with him). He becomes the new deputy but is soon visited by Tadpoletail in his dreams (dark forest and all) and Tadpoletail kills him to make him join the dark forest. They agree to set their differences aside, start haunting the dreams of their old apprentices (Tumbleclaw and Pebblefoot) and pretend Mistyfoot and them both have been killed by Windclan warriors who wanted to destabilize Riverclan. Leopardstar attacks Windclan. Some people die. Thunderclan joins Windclan’s side, Shadowclan decides to stay neutral. Riverclan is pushed back. Onestar decides to bring war to their own territory, Firestar drops him.
Windclan and Riverclan almost annihilates each other when Blackstar and Firestar bring them forcefully to an emergency gathering and force them to talk things out. Leopardstar reveals that two of her warriors have been receiving dreams of their old mentors telling them Windclan was their murderers. Onestar tells no one from Windclan crossed the borders in moons. Leopardstar and Onestar refuse to believe each other. Lionblaze and Jayfeather come forth and reveal what the Dark Forest is, and say that maybe Hawkfrost and Tadpoletail are not good guys. Riverclan is outraged by the accusation but others take LionJay’s side.
The medicine cats decide to ask Starclan about that, Starclan confirms them Hawkfrost and Tadpoletail are not among them and that the Dark Forest exists (lathough everyone is mad at Jayfeather and Lionblaze for forcing them to admit to the clans that they are not all-knowing/all-powerful).
The clans ally against the dark forest. Dovewing is barely a warrior at the time, the timeline has accelerated. If the people who died still die but that much in advance, it means no Lilyheart or Seedpaw at all since they are never born. Firestar still has at least two lives after the battle. Hollyleaf... comes back way after the battle when saving apprentices from a fox.
She isn’t killed by Hawkfrost, has her own apprentice (Snowbush possibly I don’t really care which one) but never quite fits in the clan. She later choses to go join the Tribe just like Stormfur did before her.

Rising Storm reread!
Overall, 9.5/10, thoughts at the bottom of the post. Half point removed for having an odd pacing, not much technically happened but also a lot happened as well, i always think the events of this one are in forest of secrets.
Prolouge
Huh, they actually foreshadow the second arc and skyclan, neat
Careful Runningnose, i dont like the way you phrased that
Ooo spooky omens, i like it
Chapter 1
Im retracting my statement from last book, i dont like cloudpaw
Tigerclaw was banished a quarter moon ago
Might be harsh, but fireheart's right, cloudpaw's gotta learn respect for the prey
More exposition, but placed better, feels more like his memories than the authors
Willowpelt is expecting
Why have ash and fern not been apprenticed yet, their a moon older than cloud
Thank you whitestorm for helping our boy with patrols
In fireheart's defense, its hard to keep track of where one cat is, nevermind a whole clan
Aww hi brightpaw
So mistlekit is still alive, eh? Kit survived the whitecough bought
Unfortunatrly the elders werent incorrect in their worry
I like this start, the writing is far smoother
Chapter 2
"Your eyes have always betrayed your heart" i really like that line
Fireheart being scared of a kitten is shockingly in character, same tom who overthought a mossball comment
I like the implication that bluestar and leaders generally visit the nursery a lot
Ah, theres the slightly jarring exposition
I love whitestorm so much
I know it wasnt canon at the time of writing the book, but i like that whitestorm's the one to be concerned, thsts his auntie
Honestly i can't blame bluestar for losing trust so fast, being backstabbed like that can really mess with your head, i've seen it happen
But thats also really sad, she was so happy to announce cloudpaw's ceremony last book
Cloudpaw has been an apprentice for a half moon
Fireheart, lets not continue with the pity
Cinderpaw was made yellowfang's apprentice a moon and a half ago
From an author persepctive, not a fan of cinderpaw's worry here, but from a character perspective, i understand her, its a lot to learn, especially at such a young age with people's health at stakr
Ok i understand why he chose darkstripe instead of sandstorm, no need to risk more clan unease at the moment, but god i hope he explains this rationally to sandstorm
Chapter 3
I know bluestar's aggression is a bad thing, but she's got a point, two attacks in one moon means you gotta keep some around
Cloudpaw being annoying, as usual
Ash and Fern, yay!
Chapter 4
Oo, i like the imagery of that nightmare
Ah, here's bluestar's...not mania, i dont think thats the word, but impulsiveness, maybe
Haha runningwind doesn't like cloudpaw, cant blame him
I like bluestar in book 2 was like "runningwind is a good cat but he wouldnt be good with apprentices" and he keeps getting stuck with apprentices
Chapter 5
Exposition part 3
Even with her mind clouded, her instincts are sharp
Yay bluestar's happy
Oh nevermind
Ah, hello mudclaw, not the last time your gonna cause trouble
Bluestar no-
Chapter 6
Goddamn it cloudpaw
Both runningwind and fireheart are increasingly exasperated with him
Fireheart, your the most patient cat on earth for putting up with cloudpaw for so long, lets hope it pays off
Chapter 7
Quarter moon since the moonstone attempt
Graystripe has been in riverclan for nearly a moon
Greenleaf is furball season
Stop looking at him, your making him nervous
Chapter 8
Ok, wildly abrupt time cut
Littlecloud was 3 moons old when he was apprenticed in the first book
Jesus, poor kit
Damn, i feel bad for these two
This whole time and no one was aware of these paths?
Chapter 9
Not sure how i feel about this new sandstorm
Oh look Fireheart, cloudtail took your advice from the first book
Chapter 10
I know hes written as arrogant, and he is very arrogant, but his confused look there gives me "autist who needs a rule to be explained far more bluntly" vibes, as one myself
Willowpelt's kitting
Aw no poor cinderpaw
Oh, cinderpelt. When'd she get her name?
Two she-cats and a tom, eh? Alright, rain, soot, which of you is the trans tom?
Bit of an awkward transition to the next day there, but alright
Two moons since the last rain
Chapter 11
Aw, cinderpelt
Fireheart cant stay mad at his baby sister forever
Sandfire advenetures!
Cloudpaw no!
Chapter 12
Okay, bad wording fireheart, but sandstorm turned way too quickly
Oh, poor ash
Chapter 13
Aw, ashfur, babie boy. Im gonna hate you next arc
Ok good, bluestar still has some wisdom in hef
Fireheart please take cinderpelt's advice, let spottedleaf go
Chapter 14
Brackenfur's not stupid, he can see u like her, fireheart
Aw, whitestorm's so concerned for his aunt
Im just picturing bluestar lying on her side, sadly licking dew from individual leaves
Chapter 15
Willowpelt not being forced into mother or warrior solely, for the win!
Oh no, runningwind!
Ah shit, there goes whitethroat
Tigerclaw u fucker
Chapter 16
GET HIS ASS FIREHEART
Skinny tigerclaw is a cursed image
Whitestorm to the rescue!
And greystripe!!
Chapter 17
I love how considerate fireheart is
Uh oh, bluestar, please stay calm
I think the writers got confused on mourning rituals, isnt it those closest to the dead that sit vigil?
Still, poor runningwind
Thornpaw, buddy! You've been given absolutely no characterization so far, poor guy, the neglected littermate
Yellowfang's reminded of Brokenstar, isnt she
Chapter 18
Aw, brackenfur playing with the kits
What ever happened to the "dont eat on hunting patrols" thing he was critizing cloudpaw about earlier?
Ravenpaw!!! My buddy!!!
Oh lord, exposition
Cloudpaw's been missing for a quarter moon
Chapter 19
Goddamn why is sandstorm so quick to fight with him
I see where shes coming from, dont leave the clan unguarded to go pick up your nephew from a twoleg nest, but have like, a reasonable discussion at least
...au where brightpaw comes across tigerclaw during the journey back to camp and gets kidnapped or killed
He has his own territory!! Good for you, dude!
Chapter 20
Thunderclan tree scaling skills coming in handy again
Why is sandstorm so harsh against ravenpaw???
Im glad ravenpaw has confidence, and a lot of it, given he just willingly alerted dogs to himself
Chapter 21
Cloudpaw better be on a redemption arc now, i really want to like him
Deadfoot nooo
Haha webpaw said fuck that
Aw, ashpaw, cutie
Hell yeah, more elders liking cloudpaw content
Chapter 22
Bluestar's memory is fading isnt it
Ok good cloudpaw's improving
I love these nightmares and omens, shame ive never seen fanart for them
Chapter 23
Ah, the fire, time for heartbreak
Ough, the image of patchpelt trying to drag halftail to saftey
I know yellowfang dies this book but shes gotta be alive! Shes just gotta!
Au where yellowfang survives and teaches leafpool
Chapter 24
Nooo, patchpelt!
Au where bluestar dies instead of yellowfang
Huh, they remembered mistlekit's existence, but not the fact she should definitely be an apprentice by now
Chapter 25
Ah good, leopardfur's softening a bit
Aw, smallear wanting to bury patchpelt
I'd be neat if one of the willowkits got asthma from this, but i know they dont
Chapter 26
Darkstripe you dick
Yess dustpelt becoming likeable
Bluestar's getting worse, isnt she
Storm and Feather! Babies!
Chapter 27
I like crookedstar
God, it really is destroyed, huh
Poor halftail
This is horrific, one of the worse deaths, if shes still conscious when fireheart finds her, she was probably conscious all night
"I wish you had been my son, but i could not have borne a cat like you" god.
Oh god, the image of fireheart desperately talking over her, knowing shes gone, ough
Chapter 28
I cant even blame bluestar here, i'd break from this too
Rip yellowblue shippers (fangfur? Bluefang?)
Three quarter moon
Chapter 29
I think cloudpaw has gotten "my boy!" status
Whitestorm's such a good warrior, man, i love him
Darkstripe's a dick part ???
Chapter 30
Gorsepaw!!!
Tallstar!!!
See, this is why i love firestar, he didnt have to tell runningnose personally, he could've just announced it
Ohoho, hello tigerclaw, you evil fucker
My thoughts
9.5/10, technically a lot happened but it also felt like nothing happened, so half a point off. I liked it though, the writing is holding up so far, everyone's mostly in character- aside from sandstorm's flip-flopping- and the fire scenes were brutal. Not necessarily my favourite so far, but high up

i am a man of my word! @hey-its-quill
13 - “Jackie Onassis” by Sammy Rae and the Friends
and when she found me i was in pieces, cryin’ hard into my hat
and she tell me, “mama, you look lovely when you take a stand.”
Her past was written all over her face. Everyone could see it. Everyone always reacted to it first, her second. It felt like part of her died the day a dog closed its jaws around her skull, and that she was just a ghost floating along in someone else’s stead.
Sometimes, Brightheart wondered if she would ever move on. Cloudtail said the past didn’t matter, not to him, and maybe that was true. Maybe.
Cinderpelt told her that her injuries had healed, and, morbidly, “The one lucky thing about big wounds like that is that you bleed so much it’s almost hard to catch an infection.”
And Brightheart knew that what she meant was, “I’m glad you’re alive,” and “I’m happy I didn’t lose my sister,” and “I don’t know what I would do if you had died on my watch, too, like Silverstream.” But she and Cinderpelt weren’t close, not the way Cinderpelt was with Brackenfur. There didn’t seem to be room for that, not when they’d been apprenticed separately and lived separate lives.
A part of Brightheart had almost been relieved when Daisy, the kittypet from the barn with three little kittens in tow, had said it so plainly. The shock, the horror, the disgust. “What happened to your face?”
She’d gotten over that. What choice did she have when Daisy decided to stay? She had had to find a way to keep going, and that was that.
But when Brightheart was having her second litter, Daisy was right there, unafraid. “You’re doing fine,” she’d purred, pressing her side against Brightheart’s back, tapping a steady, gentle rhythm with her fluffy tail.
“It’s — there’s more than my last litter, isn’t there?” Brightheart had asked, her one eye flicking between Jayfeather and Daisy. “What if it goes wrong?”
“There are more, yes.” Jayfeather’s whiskers twitched, his nostrils flaring to track changes in scent that would let him know a kit was coming. “Just breathe, don’t panic. Panic is what causes trouble. You’ve done this before, it’ll be all right. Breathe. Follow Daisy if it’s too much to do by yourself.”
“You survived that,” Daisy said with a lick to the fur just behind Brightheart’s bad ear. “You’re one of the strongest cats I know. You’ve got this. Breathe. Follow me. One, two, one, two…”
Brightheart shut her eyes and breathed deep, matching Daisy’s counts beat for beat. She thinks I’m strong?
It was one thing for that sentiment, the lofty “You’re so strong,” to sound like a kit-story, something you said but didn’t really mean in order to placate. It was the way most cats said it, after all. But something about the way Daisy had said it just now, with such sincerity, when Brightheart was overwhelmed and afraid and Cloudtail was pacing anxiously outside of the nursery, that, well — it meant something.
She could do this.

Browsing the Warriors Wiki right now and realizing something.
You see, I'm from a country where books are not only translated with five to six years of wait but also the names are translated differently. Not too widely differently (Jay/Lion/Holy still have those prefixes, but two of their suffixes change) but still.
So here's something:
Dustpelt / Ashfur / Lionblaze, who are mentor/apprentice, all where translated with the same suffix. Basically their names would be translated to Dustfur, Granitefur (why they changed that prefix I'll tell you later) and Lionfur. And it's so cute I think because even tho it is not like the original names, they kind of had something that united them, a suffix in common, ya know?
(the names in french: Pelage de Poussière, Pelage de Granit, Pelage de Lion)
Now, let's talk about Crowfeather. In the second arc, Idk why, he was named (loose translation again) Blackpaw (Nuage Noir, and yes, the paw suffix is translated by a cloud suffix or prefix rather and Cloudtail's name was changed to Snowpaw/snowflake, Nuage de Neige, Flocon de Neige).
Problem being when they came to his warrior name. Blackfeather (Plume Noire) was already another wind clan warrior already alive, and I'm pretty sure it was Blackpaw's mentor. So they changed it to [some natural stone or idk what which is black]feather. That natural stone was also used as Ravenpaw's prefix idk why they changed it in the first place but anyway. And it was also used for Blackstar, changing from Blackfoot (Patte Noire) to [black semi-precious stone]star because Blackstar was already the french name of Nightstar (Etoile Noire). I don't know if you're quite following me? Anyway, do you know how this black stone's name is pronounced? exactly like the french name for a jay.
The names are thus: Ravenpaw->Nuage de Jais, Blackstar->Etoile de Jais and Nightstar->Etoile Noire.
So, yeah, it was kinda obvious that Jaykit was Jaisfeather (more or less: Plume de Jais)'s son to french readers because they almost had the same name. But then, we've got a problem with Jaypaw becoming Jayfeather. Because it would give us ''Plume de Jais'' and Plume de Geai'' (Jay->geai), which is pronounced exactly the same! So the translator got the pretty ingenious idea to say ''hey, jays are blue and he's got blue eyes, let's call him Jayeye, which is much more pronounceable in french'' and named him Oeil de Geai.
Now to why Ashfur was most probably named Granite and not Ash: you see Ash in french is Cendre. And so is Cinder. It's two words which translate exactly the same. And there was also a Cinder at the time of Ash's birth: Cinderpelt. So having Cinderpaw and Cinderpaw train together, ya know, would not have been great. But where it becomes really weird is that Cinderpelt was translated basically as Cinderedmuzzle (Museau Cendré).
I'm not here to drag the translator. To be honest, having all these names to translate, plus the necessary changes when there is no possible translation for something (like with Ash and Cinder) or already existing names (such as Nightstar/Blackstar even tho she changed Nightstar's name in the first place so kinda on her) must have been a lot of pressure.
Plus, I love some of the ''new'' (or changed) names. There are some weird things (Spottedleaf becomes Petite Feuille, which translates as Small/littleleaf but also as Leafkit since Petit/Petite is the translation of the kit suffix in french, but there were not named kits when she appeared in the series so the translator couldn't have known) but some were really more poetics.
First things first, ''tail'' was generally not translated as such (except with Halftail or Berrystumpytail because it was obvious when it was necessary to keep it), ''stripe'' neither (Graystripe is named Greyfeather, Plume Grise, in french) and cloud never because cloud was the translation of ''paw'' suffix. Pool was not much translated either except here and there because it's not good sounding in french (flaque, or phonetically flak), and for I don't know what reason but probably because it would sound weird too, most Flight and Song were changed too.
Knowing that it makes more sense that:
Cloudtail's name in french is Snowflake (he started as cloudkit, Petit Nuage, but then changed to snowpaw, Nuage de Neige, then snowflake, Flocon de Neige).
Heathertail is named Forget-me-not-eye, because forgetmenots are named Myosotis in french and so her name is Oeil de Myosotis because her eyes are blue like the flower.
Tallstar was named Shootingstar (Etoile Filante) and his warrior name was Shootingfeather (Plume Filante) which makes no sense in either language but better than Talltail (Grande Queue) because tail in french is very much connoted as a synonym for male sexual genital or at least was at the time of the three first arc's translation.
Leafpool was named Moonleaf (Feuille de Lune) which meant changing the place of leaf in the name in both languages (Nuage de Feuille / Leafpaw, Feuille de Lune / Moonleaf) but whatever.
Basically there's also the problem of the translator who first called thornkit Petite Epine and then realized there was also a bramblekit in there who basically had the same name so for a while there was thornkit and thornykit, then thornpaw and thornypaw, and then finally she translated bramble by Ronce instead of Epineux and he could be named Brambleclaw. Problem is Thornclaw was already the name the had given to Thistleclaw in Bluestar's story in the third book so she called him Thornheart (Coeur d'Epine).
Which means Coeur d'Epine (Thornclaw but with heart instead of Claw)was brother with Brightheart (whose name was whiteheart because bright, tawny etc doesn't translate well in french with the apprentice's names system she took) and so they basically had the same warrior name/suffix. Which, given the circumstances in which they were both named, is not important.
Anyway Snowflake and Whiteheart had a kit whose name was Wingkit, then Wingedpaw (Nuage Ailé) and then Whitewing (Aile Blanche) but she almost had the same name as her mother.
Also who else thinks names like Ambermoon are not warriors names but fantasy human names?
Also the whole Molepaw, uncle of Molewhisker etc doesn't exist because they were translated as different kind of rodents, same with a lot of other symbolic family-related names.

Note
Brightheart is a bit older, but not that older?? Cloudtail didn't mentor any of her siblings?? idk what this anon is on but uhhh jesus??
also i heard TallJake does have a gap, since Jake's pregnant mother appears in Pinestar's Choice when Pinestar is an app i think, but. they met as adults. and i dont think Tallstar was a warrior for few days when they met?? like... RavenBarley is right there anon LOL
if you want non canon mlm ship to dissect, i recommend Hawkwing/Darktail, when they met like.. a few days after Hawkwing gets his name and Darktail is probably alive for 4 years or more.
ok yeah i do think she was pregnant in pinestar’s choice when he’s young, and i remember she does give birth later on, but wouldn’t that only make jake slightly younger or older? since tallstar is way younger than pinestar as well and could have been either born around the same time or before. but it doesnt sound like their gap would be big if there was one?

Episode 49: Chapters 13-16
Chapter 13
After the storm, Firestar leads everyone back to camp and is relieved to see that Tigerstar hasn't attacked yet. He tells Whitestorm and some other warriors what happened with Tigerstar and his new TigerClan. When Firestar orders extra patrols as a precaution, Cloudtail is eager to volunteer. Firestar also asks Cinderpelt if she really thinks the storm was a sign from StarClan, which she doesn't believe.
Later on, Firestar is training Bramblepaw and is happy with how he is progressing. Then Bramblepaw asks why it's such a bad idea to join into one big Clan like TigerClan, which upsets Firestar. He explains to Bramblepaw that Tigerstar wouldn't share but would control everyone instead. The question worries him and makes him wonder if Bramblepaw is as loyal as he'd been starting to hope.
Some time later, Cloudtail asks Firestar to observe how his and Brightheart's training has been going. Firestar is initially and internally skeptical, but quickly changes his tune when he sees how well Brightheart is doing as even joins in the training himself. He encourages her to keep practicing and says she might be able to teach something to the clan in the future.
After the storm, food is hard to find. While out in the forest, Firestar sees a vision in a stream of a lion in his own reflection and then a vision of Spottedleaf. He is confused and in disbelief, wondering if StarClan means for a new clan to arise, like the great clans of legend, and for him to lead it.
Chapter 14
Graystripe is about to ask Firestar something when he sees Tawnypaw storm out of the elders den, followed by a worried-looking Bramblepaw. When Firestar asks her what's wrong, Tawnypaw says that Smallear bullies her because Tigerstar is her father. Firestar tries to calm her down with mixed success. When she storms off again, he promises Bramblepaw that he'll talk to Smallear later.
Afterward, Graystripe speaks to him again and says he needs to check on his kits because Tigerstar has taken over RiverClan. Firestar knows it's a bad idea and instead proposes a worse idea: he, the new leader of an enemy clan, will go with Graystripe too. In secret, without telling anyone. As they head out, they bump into Ravenpaw who has come to the camp to pay his respects to Bluestar. They instantly tell him their plan as well as the TigerClan update, and Ravenpaw immediately decides to help them.
The three of them sneak into RiverClan territory and encounter rotting freshkill leading to an unknown clearing. In the clearing is the hill of bones from Firestar's dream, surrounded by ShadowClan cats and carrion. Tigerstar leaps onto the bone hill to call a meeting, ordering for the "prisoners" to be brought out: Stonefur and Graystripe's kits, Featherpaw and Stormpaw.
Chapter 15
Graystripe is horrified and wants to jump in and save his kits, but Firestar and Ravenpaw hold him back. Tigerstar makes a grand speech about loyalty and how half-Clan cats like Stonefur and the two apprentices could never be loyal, which Stonefur furiously protests, saying he has always been loyal to RiverClan. Tigerstar says he can prove it by killing Graystripe's kits. Leopardstar is there and seems in over her head, unable and unwilling to defend her deputy. Stonefur refuses and Tigerstar orders Darkstripe to kill him. Even weakened, Stonefur puts up a good fight but when Tigerstar orders his own deputy to help, he is finally killed.
Chapter 16
Tigerstar mocks Darkstripe for not being able to kill Stonefur on his own and decides to keep Featherpaw and Stormpaw alive for now. The meeting ends and the apprentices are taken back to their prison. Graystripe wants to rescue them right away, but the others convince him to follow a plan instead. Ravenpaw suggests they roll in some rotten fresh kill to disguise their scent. They find that the kits are being held in a hole guarded by Jaggedtooth, and Ravenpaw pretends to be a RiverClan warrior with a message from Tigerstar to send Jaggedtooth away. They manage to sneak Graystripe's kits and Mistyfoot out but their escape is soon noticed.

until the stars blink out
Much like the day of her apprentice ceremony, it dawns cool and clear. Dovewing can see patches of pink sky from the partially-destroyed den she’s inhabiting — with the warriors’ den collapsed, they’ve been shuffled into one den or the next, with little thought for comfort or repairs. Dovewing herself is in the apprentices’ den, surrounded by all of the other young cats in the Clan.
Except for the ones that had died, that was. But she wouldn’t — couldn’t — think about that right now. Couldn’t think about how even powers had not prevented a massacre, couldn’t stop the end.
On the older end of the cats assigned to this den, Hollyleaf’s side rises and falls slowly beside her. There are deep gashes gouged into her old mentor’s flanks and shoulders, covered in what herbs and cobwebs could be spared. She looks like she’s been mauled by a badger, all the dressings bloodied through, but she’s alive. Alive. It sounds more impossible than anything today. There are several young cats missing from this apprentice-assigned roster, and not all of them are occupying the medicine den. Some are stretched out in the clearing, awaiting their vigils.
It had been a strange thing, not sitting vigil the night of a death; stranger still to know that Firestar was not the cat to lead it. Squirrelflight, chosen firmly by a dying Brambleclaw, had taken one look at the exhausted survivors and had ordered them all into dens, telling them to sleep before they mourned. But how could they not? She thinks of Foxleap, who had always been there with a joke or a story, distracting from even the worst of happenings; she remembers Ferncloud and Dustpelt, who had defended the camp until their dying breaths; thinks carefully of smiling Molepaw, who had been terribly, impossibly young.
Even with their orders, no one had gotten much sleep that night. They had lain awake, whispering to cats who weren’t there – sending prayers and wishes to StarClan, that they might receive them well. With mercy, in a few cases; the cats who had turned had seemed to all turn back, but they had betrayed their Clan still.
(—Flashing claws, gnashing teeth, hot blood spilling across her muzzle — a flurry of paws, an exposed throat, a gray-patched maw opening in surprise, blue eyes glazing slowly over—)
She does not remember Ivypool. She cannot think of Ivypool.
She knows that she shouldn’t leave the den, knows that Hollyleaf would want her to wake her. But Dovewing struggles to her feet anyway, dislodging the black tail slung comfortingly over her side, and picks her way into the clearing.
It’s all too bright out here, in the open, with nothing but stone and leaves and sky to distract her from the fallen. They’ve been laid out neatly by what remained of the elders, looking as if nothing more had happened than them deciding to sleep under the stars. But the fantasy can’t hold long — already the scent of rot is creeping past the lavender and thyme, spread so sparingly throughout the victims’ fur. Dovewing spots Sandstorm, placed back-to-back with Firestar, protecting each other one last time; sees Brightheart, still living, curled around Cloudtail’s unmoving form. Squirrelflight ordered us to sleep, Hollyleaf’s voice says in her mind. We’ll be of no use if we die, too. But no one could ask Brightheart to leave her mate’s side, and it looked as if the she-cat had not moved all night. She was the last of her litter, now, with Brackenfur and Thornclaw curled nearby; Brightheart’s gaze is fixed almost unnaturally on her brothers, who lie just beyond Cloudtail’s fluffy white tail. Blinking, Dovewing purposefully kicks a rock to warn her grandmother of her presence, but Brightheart doesn’t so much as twitch an ear.
When Dovewing presses her muzzle heavily into her grandmother’s too-cold pelt, it’s with a numb sort of awareness. The fact that she’s dead (dead, dead, blood and ichor and entrails) buzzes fleetingly through her mind, but fizzles out without her quite realizing the meaning. She sits heavily next to Brightheart’s corpse, grooms a stray, blood-matted patch of fur, and gently closes her eyes.
By the time she’s finished, cats have started to emerge from dens. Spiderleg looks helplessly at the warriors’ den and back to the line of dead Clanmates before him. She can almost hear his thoughts — with Dustpelt and Brackenfur gone, who will lead repairs?
A shadow falls along Dovewing’s side, crawling up her pelt and over Brightheart’s head. “What do you want?” she croaks out, hearing the way her own voice muffles through fur and cold, cold skin.
There’s a rustle as the cat sits down beside her. “Have you visited her yet?” Hollyleaf asks, because of course it’s Hollyleaf. There’s no blame in her voice, no anger at her former apprentice leaving the den without her.
“No,” Dovewing says quietly. “I don’t think I can.”
“You can,” Hollyleaf assures her. There’s only soft sympathy and cold sorrow behind Hollyleaf’s mew, and when Dovewing looks up, her former mentor’s shape is framed by the rising sun, the morning turning the tips of each hair to gold. “You will.”
Dovewing closes her eyes. “I don’t want to say goodbye. I’m not strong enough.”
“Not strong enough?” Hollyleaf asks, settling alongside her. “You’re the strongest cat I know.”
“Don’t patronize me,” Dovewing says, irritation sparking along her spine. “You know that’s not true!”
“But it is,” Hollyleaf says softly. “All of this — my brothers and I didn’t know about the prophecy until we were almost warriors. But you… you’ve known since you were a kit that you were different.”
Dovewing hangs her head. “Different,” she repeats dully.
“You didn’t get the kithood and the apprenticeship most cats get,” Hollyleaf continues. “I tried, I did, but it wasn’t enough. No, don’t look at me like that,” she adds when Dovewing opens her mouth to protest. “You still had powers. You still had a prophecy hanging over your head. You still couldn’t relate to your peers; you still couldn’t be yourself.”
“So?” Dovewing asks sharply.
“One day, I hope you’ll forgive yourself,” Hollyleaf murmurs, tucking her head on top of her once-apprentice’s ears. It isn’t what Dovewing had expected her to say, and the sentiment bubbles in her chest like acid. “You deserve peace.”
“I brought it,” Dovewing snaps, defensive. “That’s what the prophecy said, didn’t it?”
An exhale through her mentor’s nose. “At what cost?” she asks, and both cats fall silent, taking in the soft sounds of grief echoing through the hollow.
“Ivypool’s life,” Dovewing whispers. “Everyone else’s.”
“No!” Hollyleaf denies. “No, Dovewing, no. That wasn’t your fault. The cost I was talking about — it was you, Dove. The very ability to be you was taken away. You have a chance now, but—”
But now Ivypool’s dead. But now the Clan is in disrepair. But now my adulthood will be just another extension of the day Jayfeather told me I had powers. “Oh.”
“Oh,” Hollyleaf repeats, soft and sad.
There’s not much else to say, Dovewing thinks. She looks out upon the rows and rows of the deceased, catches Ivypool’s pelt and winces away, tucking her head into Hollyleaf’s side like she’d done when she was young and anxious and so very, horribly afraid.
Hollyleaf starts up a purr, even though Dovewing knows she has nothing to purr about. Still, it’s soothing, like cooling herbs over a burn, and she lets herself fade into it, pretending for a moment that she was still that sad, scared apprentice, one who didn’t have blood on her paws. Despite everything, Dovewing wishes she could go back. Wishes she could reconcile with her sister. Wishes everything had been different, different, different.
“Someday we’ll learn to live again,” Hollyleaf says, though Dovewing hadn’t spoken aloud. “But even if we don't, it'll be okay. I promise you that. Remember what I told you when you were first apprenticed?”
Dovewing looks up at her old mentor. The sky’s gone blue, now, not a cloud marring the sky. The wind whips eagerly through the branches, and for one impossible moment Dovewing thinks she sees stars amongst the leaves. They stare down at her, and she can't decide what they're trying to tell her. Would they want to tell her anything, now that ThunderClan was in tatters? “That you’d love me until the stars blink out,” Dovewing recites. It's a practiced phrase, one repeated over and over again by the only family who'd ever truly seen her, and it flows like comfort off her tongue.
She chances a glance at her sister once more. Goodbye, Ivypool, she doesn’t say. I’ll love you until the sky crashes to the ground, she doesn’t say. I’ll love you until the stars streak from the heavens. I’ll love you, I’ll love you, I’ll love you. And until then, I’ll live for you.
“That’s still true,” Hollyleaf murmurs. “It’ll always be true.”
“I know,” Dovewing says, and a smile pulls at her despite herself. “I love you too, you know. We’ll see the end together, won’t we?”
“If it’s within our power,” Hollyleaf promises.
The stars in Dovewing’s vision seem to spin almost merrily as they fade from her sight, a blue-tinged one lingering for just a moment longer. “It will be,” she breathes. “I can feel it.”

Note
if adopted kits are taken as seriously as bio kits, would ashfur even go for squilf at all considering hes brothers with her.. cousin? i think? whatever cloudtail is in relation to squilf n leaf
Cloudtail and Brindleface are two that have been a thorn in my side since I started reworking the tree and I'll get to what I'm planning with them specifically, but in summary-- an adopted child only counts one way. Allonursing is a common Clan practice and not every kit suckled by someone else becomes that person's child.
(I had to do this because I would have run out of cats and had to ban ALL same-clan shipping. Not to mention how I also try to get rid of steep age gaps on top of this)
So Cloudtail is not Ferncloud and Ashfur's fully adopted brother. He was suckled by Brindleface but raised by Fireheart, and was extremely close to Ferncloud growing up. He's Firekin, not Brindlekin.
But otherwise, when it comes to what I allow and what I block, I have Three Strict Rules
Rule 1: Three Generation Separation
I completely eliminate cats who are first cousins, which means they share a 1st degree grandparent. For an example, that would mean Swiftpaw and Brightheart are banned as a couple-- first cousins through Goldenflower and Lionheart.
Squirrelflight and Cloudtail are also first cousins.
Second cousins, cousins once removed, I usually allow those. Clan populations are too small for me to be stricter-- not to mention that Clan culture prioritizes "pure blood."
I have one MAJOR addendum, which I like to call Onestar's Exception.
I ban an ADDITIONAL 4th generation if two or more siblings are alive to remember the great-grandparent. This is because when I read Onestar's Confession, Onestar actually thinks about how cool it is that Heathertail is becoming mates with Breezepelt, his sister's grandchild, making them first cousins once removed.
It made me so uncomfortable I made the addendum on the spot, and committed to Onestar being an only child (son of Larksplash and Cloudrunner).
This also banned Dewnose x Sorrelstripe, which is why Bay and Myrtle are both sireless now.
Rule 2: Two Kit Max
A couple can have as many kits as they like, but only two are allowed to go on to have descendants of their own. All others will either have no kits, or a dead-end lineage.
So, for example, the BrackenSorrel couple had Poppyfrost and Cinderheart, so Lilyheart will not have surviving children, Nightheart is not her grandchild (IF she stays a BrackenSorrel child, since I killed her dad before she was born OOPSIE).
This prevents LionCinder situations where half of the Clan is descended from one fecund couple... though sometimes it causes headaches, like the ToadNettlePool couple, which I decided early on was going to count as ONE big litter because I'm not dealing with the headache of quantifying half-siblings.
The exception being that a cat can leave their home clan to have kits somewhere else. So, Dovewing, now a LionCinder child, does not count towards her parents' limit because she moved to ShadowClan.
(Spotfur and Sorrelstripe, btw, are getting traded over to Birch/White in exchange for Ivypool and Dovewing)
Rule 3: Queen's Rights/Sireless Litters
I have the right to eliminate a father. Sireless litters are allowed, and it's against the code itself to question who fathered a queen's kittens (This is not respected when the Clan swings towards Thistle Law).
I do this a LOT and it is extremely helpful. Brindleface's kits are sireless. Sorrelstripe's kits are sireless. Blossomfall's kits are sireless. Morningflower's kits were sireless. Rosetail's kittens (Spottedleaf and Redtail) were sireless.
So... Cloudtail
I WANTED to save Cloudtail as an adopted sibling because I really love the concept, but keeping that would be undoing two major things.
First, Whitewing and Birchfall would be first cousins and ergo banned. I would have to un-dad Whitewing's children which... it doesn't feel right, they're such a good background couple. Plus, without MORE fixes, it kills Ferncloud's bloodline. Birchfall is her ONLY surviving reproductive child, Spiderleg's bloodline through Daisy was a dead-end.
(one of my other fixes, though, is saving her grandchild Rosepetal, Cherryfall is dying instead. so check ME OUT world, i managed to save ONE ferncloud descendant. hold your applause please /s)
Second, like you mentioned, it would utterly eliminate the Ashfur/Squirrelflight drama. That's too iconic and fuels conflict in two arcs- it's such a MAJOR canon event that I have to fix around it.
So, something had to give and I decided it was Cloudtail being formally adopted. He is VERY close to Ferncloud though, and helps her raise her little brother Ashkit when Brindleface is killed.

Reedwhisker: *kills Tigerstar's ghost, then smirks at his siblings.* "I told you I'd do it!"
Mistystar, Stonefur, Stormfur, Feathertail, Starclan!Primrose, Starclan!Pike, : ***"DO WHAT?!?"***
Ripple and Grey: "Busted."
assuming this is great battle (2),
unfortunately ripple is also dead by then. whoops. can't let mistystar get too happy.
if she goes too long without something terrible happening to her or her family she might find peace.
i jest. things are good for the time between the end of oots and...i think riverclan stays out of darktail until shattered sky? and realistically most of oots isn't that bad for riverclan. she's like. just. there.
but ANYWAY trust i desperately want mistystar to be the one to kill tigerstar in the great battle (2). or morningflower? ashfoot? literally ANYONE but firestar?
like this is a firestar love zone, don't worry.
but.
he, personally, has lost. uh. relatively little to tigerstar. oh, sure, tigerstar was his villain, but like...tigerstar killed bluestar. indirectly.
uhh like. firestar cares about a lot of cats that tigerstar hurts but like. why is HE the designated cat who lost the most or w/e. why not ashfoot, who lost kits and her mate? and is somehow still alive and deputy?
or like. brightheart? cloudtail?
mistystar?
fuck man SOMEONE in shadowclan sorry i'm running out of names, but my point is that there's no one that firestar lost that someone else didn't lose. so...like...yeah sorry.
i won't say i'm salty about firestar killing tigerstar, because it's a fun thing! i just don't think it was his cosmic destiny that he deserved to have.
wait.
what was the point of this ask.
uh reedwhisker right.
no i mean he...it's something a kid says, because it's the only thing he can think of. he's sad and upset and how could someone hurt anyone like that? how could anyone hurt mistyfoot like that? she's wonderful! she's his mother! she's perfect!
feathertail and stormfur are so good. why would anyone do that?
and then he grows up, and it's still horrifying and sad and he doesn't know how he feels about his family history being a cautionary warning, but killing tigerstar (again) isn't going to fix anything. it can't undo it. it can't stop it. it's already been done.
he grows up, and he understands more and more. feathertail and stormfur are so close, and he gets it. he thinks about greymist and rippletail and he understands.
he has his own kits, and minnowkit is the sweetest thing, he would die for her, and he understands.
he grows up, and the best thing he can do for his family is be happy.

I'm still alive
Sooo yeah I did this mini-comic of Hawkfrost bcs I was so inspired by the song Alive by Pearl Jam and I think the lyrics fits him well.
I think is pretty self-explanatory but I wanted to make a more "deep" Hawkfrost. Sasha tells him about his father when he is more mature and that revelation makes a strong impact on him and Hawkfrost has a kind of identity crisis, he feels he doesn't belong to anywhere until he meets Tigerstar. His dad fills his mind with promises and praises and finally Hawkfrost feels he belongs to something. Obviously this guide him to the same fate that his father met, he dies and goes to the dark forest.
Designs by @cloudtail I really had fun drawing them.

Okay, so. You know how in Forest of Secrets, Tigerclaw slips on blood and loses the fight against Fireheart because of that? Well, my question is, what if Tigerclaw doesn't slip, and the fight ends in a mutual kill between Tigerclaw and Fireheart? How would events go from there?
I think I would want to see your take on it, before revealing my own take on the Mutal Kill AU.
You... you do realize you’re asking me what Warrior Cats would be without Firestar and without Tigerstar right?
Ok let’s do this.
Tigerclaw is revealed as a traitor, Fireheart and him kill each other.
There are two paths stemming from here: one in which everything is the same but Bluestar choses Whitestorm as her deputy, and one in which everything is the same but Bluestar doesn't chose any deputy. Both are plausible because, when she became paranoid, she didn't even consider Whitestorm as a non-traitor ("Cloudpaw can become an apprentice but not the others because they are the apprentices of traitors" hello Whitestorm is Brightpaw's mentor!) but on the other hand, he's her nephew and adoptive son, which was probably not decided at the time of the writing of TPB, so with this in mind she might think he's the only non-traitor this time.
Path A: Bluestar choses Whitestorm as her deputy. He cannot stop the attack against Windclan, and she loses her last life in it.
Path B: Bluestar doesn’t chose any deputy. She dies in the battle against Windclan, and Whitestorm is elected the new leader because he’s basically the only senior warrior left.
Whitestorm becomes Whitestar and the plan against the hounds is carried out. Brindleface is alive though, since Tigerstar didn't kill her. Also, I doubt he would give to the apprentices the same desperation regarding their warrior names: he might not name them right away after his ceremony, but he certainly will name them. So Swiftpaw doesn't die, and Brightheart doesn't lose her face. Let's name Swiftpaw Swiftshade for the next mentions. Also Darkstripe is still in the clan but doesn’t try to kill anyone because he doesn’t have a Tigerstar to impress.
Shadowclan choses Russetfur as their new leader after the epidemy. However, they all die out one after the other as she is as weak as the rest and doesn’t have a band of healthy misfits hunting for her. Shadowclan disappears or disbands.
Blood Clan is not brought to the forest. Mothwing and Hawkfrost are not born (and Tadpole isn’t either). Stonefur doesn’t die. Mistyfoot and him never learn Bluestar is their mother.
Sky Clan is never revived.
As the Twolegs’ are starting to destroy the forest, Brambleclaw, Crowpaw and Feathertail are sent after Midnight. Tawnypelt is still in Thunderclan.
As Swiftshade and Brightheart become mates, Tawnypelt and Cloudtail become mates too. Squirrel and Leaf paw are not born.
Riverclan refuses to move from the forest. Graystripe is catnapped and no one cares. Mousefur being deputy, there’s no need for one to stand in. Windclan and Thunderclan go to the lake. Stormfur goes with them because. He stays with Brook.
Mousefur retires, Whitestar puts Dustpelt instead of her, because there is no Leafpool to give the sign about Bramble claws.
The badgers attack. Windclan helps them fight them. Cinderpelt dies without an apprentice. Barkface himself doesn’t have one and is getting old. He starts training Spiderpaw/leg and a windclan apprentice together in order to be sure to have a next generation of medicine cats.
With the Sight, Birchfall and Whitewing gave birth to two kits. Dovewing is the third while Spiderleg has visions in his dreams and Honeyfern never loses a fight. Graystripe comes back with Millie.
In Long Shadows (i think?) Honeyfern is bitten by a snake trying to save Briarkit. She doesn’t die. The prophecy is revealed to the whole clan. Ivypaw, jealous, starts training in the dark forest. No Sky Clan means no Sol.
Tigerclaw is the king of the dark forest. But there is no Hawkfrost in it, no cat from River or Shadowclan (because like Star Clan they divided to follow the ones that are from their clan) so no Brokenstar. No Darkstripe either, the fucker’s still alive.
Honeyfern gives birth to two kits, whom she names Adderkit and Squirrelkit. Spiderleg becomes Thuderclan’s official medicine cat and later starts training Briarpaw.
Windclan and THunderclan get attacked by Mapleshade and Tigerclaw and that’s all. Both are quickly put out of their misery.
Whitestar dies at some point, is replaced by Duststar.
Yeah, not much. Sorry, there are a lot of things that change by killing off the hero and the main antagonist of the story but it only makes it duller.
