I'm curious,what do you think Kanaya should be criticized for?I understand Terezi since it's clear she inherited some bad habits from Vriska and all that and her solutions to problems are pretty drastic but that's the first time I heard of Kanaya criticism.The only thing that come to mind are her actions in murderstuck and her being very passive regarding Rose's drinking issues in the Retcon.(Now that I think about it,she does have a history of being nonconfrontational with the people she's attracted to,often to the detriment of others around her)Maybe I'm due for a reread to see if I missed anything.

ok so to be fair i dont think its necessarily a sign someone missed something i just have spent a very very long time analyzing the hs cast in my very specific way. also since she just is one of the main cast that gets a bit less actual screentime, i feel like this has more to do with her general attitude towards things than her direct actions but if you go to this blog that feels kind of obvious. with kanaya i say all of this with love as shes one of my fav trolls i am so obsessed with her autism swag, but she is repeatedly distant and often downright cold with the people around her, the i would say kindest manifestation of this being her tendency to be indirect with her romantic interests, yeah. but in her friendships that arent romantic in nature she just is not very understanding or patient when people come to her with things. theres a lot of air of thinking of things people are upset about as kind of stupid or otherwise not worth her time, the most potent i can think of being her relationships with karkat and eridan. forever keep in mind i think those guys are jerks and theres a lot of reasons i can sympathize with kanaya not wanting to deal with it, but its still true!

and theres a lot of reasons for it but i just cannot approach any part of the trolls without getting into the socialization aspects, and kanayas place in the hemospectrum is one that pretty naturally lends itself to trolls seeing themselves both as better than lowbloods and more forgiving than highbloods and therefore less cognizant of their biases in that regard. the midpoint of the hemospectrum is all about upholding the status quo because it is comfortable and benefits you. she isnt out there aggressing at lowbloods but she isnt exactly all that concerned with it either until they enter the game. i think her early pages mirror really well with roses in invoking that affluent but lonely childhood vibe, and it carried throughout kanayas character! also its a gag scene but i always think its like strangely appropriate that it is kanaya who haggles with crockertier jane over the trolls blood without any real regard for the fact it is her dead friends, even when it comes to the ones she didnt have problems with. i can definitely write something a little more thoughtful when i am not entirely drained because i do love to think about her i just dont usually think to post much outside of clownthoughts

What are the best stories you've seen that have a theme of forgiveness? If not strictly about forgiveness, then any themes along the lines of retribution, redemption arcs, or even "seeing through another's eyes" (I may or may not have rewatched Brother Bear recently lol)

Well, we’ve got all my old standbys. Cinderella, of course, is a story that really has forgiveness in it, because Cinderella wholeheartedly forgives her stepfamily for mistreating her. (Actually, she might be “forbearance,” not forgiveness.) But they’re completely off her hook. I think there’s a really great moment of forgiveness between Nick and Judy in Zootopia that gets overlooked. Frozen, with Anna and Elsa. Brother Bear is a really great example, truly! I love that movie.

I think some of my other favorites include the original A Star is Born, or even the Judy Garland remake. (Those also might be more “forbearance.”) I think one of the best examples I ever saw of forgiveness was in Avatar: the Last Airbender, which everybody knows:

And of course, ‘Til We Have Faces and The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis have some of the best-distilled forgiveness moments in any stories, ever. There are sweet ones in The Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald, too, though they’re not as dramatic. In Anne’s House of Dreams, by L.M. Montgomery, Anne’s repeated forgiveness of Leslie’s coldheartedness or rudeness is a really simple but awesome example of day-to-day forgiveness.

I don’t easily think of a lot of good examples of it in stories. Brother Bear definitely has it, because without it, the story doesn’t work—Sitka wouldn’t help Kenai to learn from his wrongs, Kenai would’ve been killed by Denahi, Koda would’ve been left alone—but I don’t think forgiveness is the main focus of the movie. I think it’s a load-bearing component, but not the focus.

You’re making me want to see a movie that really homes in on that!

The thing is, I guess, for forgiveness to be the focus of a movie, there has to be a character that 100% definitely does the complete wrong, inexcusable thing to another character. Something that he deserves to be on the hook for. Then he has to acknowledge that he did the wrong thing and want forgiveness. And then the other character, the one who was wronged, has to willingly acknowledge that wrong and then let the offender off the hook. It’s not just “we’ll pretend this didn’t happen.” It’s both parties acknowledging that wrong was done, and having an exchange that ends in reconciliation. It’s got grace and mercy wrapped up in it.

Not many movies have true moments like this. Usually, one character is super sorry and the other character just seems to brush off whatever they did with like, a callback to an inside joke or something. (I’m thinking if Treasure Planet, to be honest.) Or, the situation necessitates that they put their conflict aside and work together, and then after the day is saved they sort of “get over” all that and swagger off into the sunset together.

As far as “redemption” goes—gee, all the old standbys! All the ones I mentioned above, plus Star Wars, plus East of Eden (the movie, not the book) plus, of course, my all-time favorite movie, Lilo & Stitch.

In Lilo & Stitch, you have the ugly little creature who belongs absolutely nowhere, is by definition a blight on nature and an abomination of existence, who was actively created to ruin everything. And he does it, and he takes delight in it. But there’s this little girl who gets pushed down, gets her doll chewed on, gets rejected when she’s most in need of his companionship—and she just keeps on loving him anyway. Because she’s chosen to, not because he did anything to deserve it. And then that infects him. That idea of family—of someone choosing to love you, no matter how ugly you are inside and out, and by choosing to love you, they create a place where you belong. No matter what. And that changes him. A germ from outside of him changes him from a literal world-destroying, home-shattering selfish monster into something new, something adopted, something loved.

I’d call it a story about committed love and grace, not necessarily redemption—because the focus of the story isn’t really “Stitch does something wrong but then through a process of pain and transformative struggle, redeems that wrong.” That’s not the focus of the story. But it’s still “bad character becomes good.” And I can’t help but talk about Lilo & Stitch once you get me started on it, sorry!

I think the best redemption stories are some of the ones I’ve listed above, plus East of Eden, Beauty & the Beast, and really, truly Sydney Carton from Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities.

And I think Kylo Ren was well on his way to being one of the best redemption stories of all time, if TROS hadn’t fumbled the ending so clumsily—but that’s another post for another time! I don’t know if this satisfactorily answered your question, but it was fun to ramble about and I’ll tag you if I make another post as more come to mind.

what if one of sawmus's medic brothers/friends got caught in a bad situation? if sawmus was watching on pov, how would he react?

In general, Sawmus is not the type of unit that would abandon a fellow medic or any alliance agents to perish on the battlefield. However, he is also not a proponent of reckless heroism. If another medic finds themselves in a difficult situation, and Sawmus can assist them without risking his own life, he will do so without hesitation. On the other hand, if leaving them behind would guarantee the safety of the majority, Sawmus will prioritize that instead.

There are also exceptions sometimes, such as when new units intentionally provoke Skibidis and get cornered by them. If the situation is not life-threatening, Sawmus will allow the unit to take a beating from the toilets before intervening and rescuing them.

Among the cameraman medics, Sawmus is famous for his extreme rationality as a commander, sometimes, agents would even interpret it as coldheartedness. However, because of his rationality and capability on the battlefield, his rescue missions tend to have a high success rate and none of his team members have suffered extensive physical damage. But those who are close to him know that Sawmus can be compassionate. He might want to save as many lives as he can, but he can’t risk his life at the expense of Polaroid’s happiness – losing someone you hold dear can cause the worst kind of pain.

Reiketsu (Coldheartedness) is my favorite Clara Doll. Her design is just top notch. There's this idea going around that the final form of a Clara Doll is a copy of Homura herself (since familiars tend to become copies of the witches they spawned from).

Here's hoping that if the theory is true, that Reiketsu has a Homura form.

– love the dog/cat and fox/lion comparisons. One being dogs disliking cats - so Javert feeling inexplicable dislike from the moment his eyes fell on Madeleine - and one being a clever and vigilant fox who isn't fooled by an old lion, typically a noble animal, who fooled other animals in order to eat them - so Javert seeing this older man, who is all nice, but BUT! his behaviour and smiles just feel fishy, making him not trust Madeleine on an instinctual level

– the thing about Javert is that he truly believes in what he does, he believes the law of man is 100% right, and doing his job brings him satisfaction that virtue gives. He's a fanatic and a believer who does not question. He believes in his own superiority over those who are below him, and in his own inferiority in regards to anyone above him. Point to the "Morgause enchanted Morgana" theory: Arthur and Merlin are talking about "what made her so twisted" in the very Dark Tower episode, making the ep's plot a non-direct answer to this question. What was it?

And the core of the enchantment is not the Tower, the building itself but the mandrake and psychological suffering it causes. Who else used hexing with mandrakes? Morgause. Uther felt something like Gwen because of the root.

Other points supporting the theory: very drastic shift in Morgana's perception of her friends she loved before. Betrayal of her compassion for Camelot commoners. Changed mannerism: smirks, falsity, coldheartedness (Gwen started acting like Morgana when mandraked). The way mandraked!Gwen interacted with Morgana is basically the way Morgana interacted with Morgause in S3. Fact that Morgana became too obsessed with the goals Morgause gave her even when it was not important (Gwen's marriage). Mandraked people can feel too, we see Gwen hurting and going away when Sarrum told how he tortured Morgana and Aithusa, we see her remembering her good moments with Arthur. From Morgause's side, using the mandrake on Morgana would not be considered something evil, but just a little help for her lost younger sister; she had already used Morgana without her knowledge.

Contrapoints: Morgana has been experiencing emotional suffering and fear before 2.12 and Morgause. Poisoning became the last straw. She already was planning to do something with Uther and his regime, she was suppressing her rage at his injustice. Separation from Arthur and friends, Morgause's teachings and later, Uther's betrayal(when he rejected her as his daughter) tore apart bonds Morgana had with them, she began seeing them as her enemies siding with her biggest enemy. She was broken because no one, including Merlin, never showed her other way. Morgause sculpted a revolutionary out of clay which has already begun to shape itself. Also, wouldn't the root charm have broken after Morgause's death? It's a blind spot of the mandrake sorcery. Or maybe only love, light and will to return to innocence of the mandraked person can break the enchantment?

On the other hand at that moment the camera shifts on Merlin after Arthur asked the question, hinting at Merlin's role in poisoning Morgana. Most of the time I think that emotional torture Gwen experienced there: fear, misery, darkness, thoughts that everyone hates her etc Morgana experienced on her own, maybe with a little non-magical push from Morgause, and this twisted her. What Gwen experienced once, Morgana experienced many times, plus Gwen always had a softer and kinder nature so in order to change her one had to use an enchantment. (Yes, it implies a very black and white good vs evil).

But I believe the theory can coexist with the most obvious explanation.

He could be nice when he wanted to be. The problem was that he never wanted to be nice. Not until he met Evangeline. One of his mother’s maids, of all people. How she had cracked his coldheartedness, he would never know. And he hated that it had happened. But he couldn’t undo it.

“Good morning, my liege,” Evangeline hummed as she brushed into his room, her skirts sweeping the floor. “You requested to see me?” He stared at her in amazement. Even with her hair tied out of her face, even with the weight of not having slept properly for days, even with coal dust streaking over her cheek, she was still the most enchanting woman he had ever seen. “My lord?” He blinked, sitting up in his bed with a yawn. He chuckled to himself as she avoided his gaze, a flush on her cheeks from having caught a glimpse of his chest.

“I need you to get yourself cleaned up. You’re joining me for a ride today.” Evangeline cocked her head to the side, her fingers flexing nervously.

“I’m just a maid, my lord, I don’t know how to ride a steed.” John chuckled, his tongue darting out to wet his lips.

“I’ll help you. Go get cleaned up and wait for me at the stable.” Evangeline curtsied and gathered up her skirts as she rushed from the room. John laughed again as he thought about the way she had flushed from looking at him. He reluctantly got himself dressed, taking more time than necessary so that Evangeline would be able to change and get to the stables before him.

She was waiting patiently when he arrived and he clapped his arm around her shoulder, almost relishing in the way she jumped in surprise. He clicked his fingers and the horsemaster brought his favourite steed toward them along with a stool to help them atop the horse.

“There we go, easy, easy.” John murmured, his hands squeezing her waist as he helped her climb atop the stallion. He climbed up in front of her, turning to look at her for a split second. “Hold on tight.” That was her only warning as he urged the horse into action, all but galloping from the castle grounds. Evangeline’s pinned up hair tumbled down over her shoulders the further they travelled and she could feel her skin flushing as she leaned against his back, her arms tight around his waist. He was addicted to the feeling of her skin against his as her chin came to rest on his exposed shoulder and it took all of his restraint not to kiss her then and there.

They slowed to a stop in a large field of flowers, John climbing down from the horse before lifting her off. She wobbled on her feet for a moment and he kept his hands on her waist in the guise of steadying her. His fingers splayed across her waist, nudging at her ribs and her hips and she felt like she couldn’t breathe. He loved having that effect on her and he was all too aware of the way his most restricted touch could drive her crazy.

“I found this place on a ride last week. I knew I had to show it to you.” He said from behind her, his arms wrapping around her as he rested his chin atop her head. She froze up, not daring to move and he chuckled. “It’s so beautiful, and yet it doesn’t rival the way you look.” She started to move away but his grip tightened, forcing her to remain within his arms. “You were aptly named, dear Evangeline, for you are as becoming as an angel.”

“My lord, this is hardly appropriate.” She mumbled. “You are to be King. I am just a maid.”

“You should not say such things to me. As the future King I will say and do what I like. And I want to have you - no, I need to have you. You entrance me, Evangeline.” Her breath caught in her throat as he spun her around and his intense gaze bore holes in her eyes. “I will have you as my lady, Evangeline. You deserve to be worshipped as a Queen.”

LIKE KILLING MAX, HIS LITTLE BLUEBERRY, you know we knew max and alec is close but i felt magnus and max had such a special littel bond, like his first kid was max the one who taught him to love as a father, teh one who will be at his side forever, what max thought in the about being killed by his own father was soo sad the one who is supposed to protect and love you forever.
