@nightlist tagged me in a fun little thingie, but I'm weird about those threads so I'm doing a new post for it.

Relationship Status: tentative trying out a LDR with a long-term friend. so.. taken then, I guess.

Favorite Color: In general probably a deep purple.

Favorite Food: Hmm. Always a hard decision. I miss my dad's pork chops, honestly.

Song Stuck In My Head: Losing my Religion. It came up on my store's music playlist yesterday and has been rattling around in my brain since.

Time: ...late.

Dream Trip: Very classic, but Greece. I really wanna see all the olde niche ruins that don't have a bunch of tourist shit. Like the ruins of Sparta are no where near as fancy as Athens, but it would still be super cool. If not that, then Norway to see my partner :)

Last Book Read: I was reading Dracula with the rest of Tumblr for a while, but fell off :(

Last Book I Enjoyed Reading: It's been so long since I've read an ACTUAL book. I was reading Master and Apprentice (star wars) which was pretty good, tbh!

Last Book I Hated Reading: A few years ago I was trying to read The Vampire Lestat but I fell off like 1/3 of the way through bc it got really... Weird. And also Anne Rice's writing is a nightmare sometimes to get through. Took me like a month just to finish Interview With The Vampire.

Favorite thing to cook/bake: Bread is really fun to make but I'm bad at it. Any sort of baking is fun, actually. I kinda wanna make banana bread I bought stuff for it today!

Favorite Spare Time Craft: Drawing or writing!

Niche Dislike: Bc of working in retail I now despise anyone who picks up a product and puts it down somewhere else. My mom did that today while grocery shopping and I got mad about it.

Opinion on Circuses: Kinda fucked up. I'm sure the new modern ones are better but I've never been to one.

Cherry woke up the morning in Carlos’s arms, Cherry smiled, “wake up dumbass” she knocked on his head and he woke up. “Good morning to you too asshole” Carlos says as we both get up, “alright wake up people!” Cherry shouts as the kids wake up. “Morning Cherry!” the kids say as she smiles, a few minutes later they were all out the door and while the kids were playing, Cherry was buying food with Carlos. “So what are you planning to make anyway?” he asks as cherry grabs some pasta, “Trenette Al Pesto” Cherry responds.

“What” Carlos said looking at Cherry confused, “the kids' parents are from Italy, they love stuff like this, also are these pine nuts?” Cherry asks, holding up a bag of small beige nuts as Carlos shrugs. “Anyway, I’m planning to make it for them” Cherry says putting the nuts in her basket, they walk around the store and go up to the cashier.

“Do you want me to pay?” Carlos asks, “nah I got it” Carmen reaches into her pocket and pulls out some money, “how much do I owe you?” Cherry asks. “500,000 pesos” the cashier responds as they look up at Cherry, “hey wait a minute, you're that girl from the radio!” the asks as Cherry looks back at them.

“What are you talking about?” “You're that girl who sang um what’s it called…Oh! Oveja negra” the cashier says as Carlos looks at Cherry. “Oh black sheep! Yeah that was me” Cherry smirks as the cashier takes out a record with her and 3 others on it, “Can sign this please?” the cashier asks. “Yeah sure whatever” Cherry takes out a marker and writes her initials on the record, “now back the payment-” “It’s on the house” the cashier cuts her off. “Oh, thanks” Cherry smiles as she and Carlos leave the shop.

“Cherry, you were a part of a band” Carlos glares at her as they walk to Casita, “lead vocals actually” she says. “And you never told me” he says as Cherry shrugs, “let’s just get to your house ok?” she says as they make it into Casita. No one was there except Mirabel, Mary and Antonio, Cherry puts the bags on the counter and grabs a pot.

“Do you even know how to make this?” Carlos asks as Cherry nods, filling the pot with water. “I used to make it for them all the time, so I think I’m pretty good with this” she says, grabbing a knife. “Anyways, I need you to peel the potatoes and chop them up along with the green beans,” Cherry says, handing him the knife and taking the pine nuts, cheese, olive oil, garlic, basil, and salt from the bag.

“Do y’all have a mortar and pestle?” Cherry asks as Carlos laughs, “do you know where you are?” Carlos jokes, grabbing one. Cherry starts putting the ingredients and crusting them up, “what do I do now?” Carlos asks looking at Cherry, “put the potatoes in first, then the green beans, once those cooks put in the pasta” Cherry says as Carlos shrugs and puts the potantos in. “Can you get Antonio? I want him to try this paste” Cherry says, “Antonio! Carlos shouts.

Antonio comes down on his Jaguar, “yeah Car-” Antonio looks and sees Cherry with a tiny spoon of paste on it. “Umm Carlos…are you seeing what I’m seeing” Antonio flinches seeing Cherry, “listen Toñito, you cannot tell anyone about this” Carlos says. “Not mama, or papa, or the family, no one” Antonio thinks for a second, “wouldn’t Dolores know?” he asks, “yes Dolores knows, and Mirabel” Carlos says.

“So I’m the last to know? Rude” Antonio crosses his arms making Cherry laugh, “your brother has some spunk, amor” Cherry says making Carlos’s face go red. Antonio gasps, “you're dating someone?!” Carlos’s face turns a darker red. “You? The person who’s never dating someone in the history of ever, has a girlfriend!”

“Ok stop embarrassing your brother” Cherry laughs, kissing Carlos’s cheek, “listen shortman, I need you to taste this” Cherry says handing Antonio the spoon. Antonio tasted it, “I think it needs a little bit more salt,” he says as Cherry nods and puts more salt into the pesto.

*10 minutes later*

The doors open and Mary walks in with her hair cut short, “Mary!” Mirabel slides down the stairs and gives her a hug and kiss on the cheek. “Did you get a haircut? It looks so cute!” Mirabel smiles, “yep, my sisters gave it to me” Mary says. “Cherry’s making lunch, so you can stay for a bit if you like” Mirabel says as Mary nods, “my moms said that I can spend the night the night tonight” Mary smiles as Mirabel’s eyes light up. “Special girlfriend time?” Mirabel grabs Mary’s hands, “ yes princess, special girlfriend time” “Yay!” Mirabel jumps up and down.

The kids soon walk in and sit down when they smell the food. “Is that?” “Trenette Al Pesto? Yep” the kids stomp their feet making the ground shake. “Y’all really like this don’t you?” Mary laughs as Cherry sets all the bowls on the table. The kids start eating like it’s their last meal on earth as the rest of the guys look at them.

“What? Cherry makes the best pesto” Jet looks up at them and then backs down to eat. After a few minutes, they finish eating and Cherry goes up to Carlos’s room.

He follows her up and opens the door to find her change, “shit! I’m so sorry!” He closes the door as Cherry turns. “Hey don’t worry about it! Guys have seen me change a lot so I don’t mind if you watch” Cherry smirks as Carlos slams the door open, “who saw you change?!” Carlos walks over to her and puts his hands on her shoulders.

Cherry laughs seeing Carlos all red, “your so cute when you’re mad” Cherry laughs looking at Carlos. Carlos looks her dead in the eye as she turns, “I used to live with 4 guys, didn’t I tell you?” Cherry says as Carlos loosens his grip. “Ok…Anyone else?” Carlos asks, “well you of course and yes I know that you're trying not to stare”.

Carlos had his head turned with his face red, “hey dude like I said, I don’t mind if you look” Cherry says as Carlos looks. “Jeez…You're really hot” he says as Cherry rolls her eyes, “why thank you for noticing” Cherry jokes as Dolores comes into the room. “Cherry Mirabel and Mary-“ Dolores pauses, Carlos turns to her with his face red and walks out of his room, “anyways, Cherry Mirabel and Mary need you, their in the bathroom” Dolores says walking away.

Iwalks to the bathroom and Mary pulls her in, “how come you didn’t tell us?!” Mary says excited and Mirabel with scissors and an outfit. “What are you talking about?” I ask, “your performance! The kids told us and we wanted to help with it” Mary says with a smile as I think.

“Oh yeah, the performance” I smile nervously, “they already show us what you want so…hopefully I don’t screw this up!” Mary says, reaching for my eye patch. I grab her wrist, “I’ll. Take. It. Off.” I look her straight in the eye as she backs away and I take it off.

There were burn marks around it and a hole where my eye should be, the blood was dry but I could still see some of the skin coming off my face. I didn’t bother touching it, I did look at it though, it wasn’t as bad as I thought, but Mary was a bit taken aback. “So this is what I look like ay? Not bad, not bad, could use a bit of touch ups” I said.

“So just, close your eye” I do what Mary says and the process begins, I hear clips, a razor, and something cool on my head. “Ok…you can open your eye now” Mary says and I do, I look in the mirror to half of my hair shaved off and the rest spiked on the other side. “This looks…” “amazing? Yeah I know” I nod and look at myself, that’s me in the mirror, I start laughing as Mary smiles.

“And that’s not all!” Mirabel hands me some clothes and her and Mary walk out of the bathroom.

After about 10 minutes, everyone was outside the bathroom waiting for Cherry to come out. There is a turn on the door Knob and they all lean in to Cherry coming out.

She had black combat boots, black shorts, a gray crop top, and black leather jacket with black gloves (that are fireproof), and with an eye patch that goes sideways instead of up and down. They all gasp and Mirabal runs up and hugs her, “you look amazing!” Vittoria says, clapping her hands together. Carlos’s mouth was open and his cheeks were red, his heart beating fast, Cherry walked up to him and smiled.

“Cherry is that-“ “yeah it’s me don’t cream your pants” she smirks making him go even more red. “You're so cute when you blush” Cherry lifts his chin and gives him a kiss on the cheek. “I’ll see you at the show ok? Oh, and thanks for the new gear Mirabel!” Cherry waves sliding down the stairs and heading out the door.

Carlos was speechless with Dolores only giving a smirk to him. “What a woman” he swoons leaning on the railings of Casita.

Passchendaele WW2 Extension - Homefront Rationing

Charlie,

Rationing started in January and although I remember it well from The Great War, it seems to be much more enforced this time around. We’re only allowed to shop at one local store where we are registered and can only purchase certain amounts of certain things with our ration books every week. Evelyn certainly misses her usual baking she once enjoyed but we’re trying new recipes to hopefully make something similar with what we have. Dad is doing okay; it’s kind of you to ask. He’s been quiet but it helps that it’s been pretty tame on the homefront. We’ve had a few air raid drills but nothing real. We’re just praying it stays that way - and praying you come home so soon! I can tell he misses you. We all do.

June 1, 1940

The lineup outside the store was wrapped around the sidewalk and Elizabeth fell to a stop with a sigh and pulled her small book out of her purse. She flipped to the week it was and skimmed her shopping list to see if anything matched up.

Christine was stood beside her with her own book and list, tisking under her breath, “Corbyn ate all the ham so we had absolutely no leftovers to last the rest of the week. I could have cut him off but…I can never say no to that man.”

“At least you don’t have to worry about feeding children.” Elizabeth offered as they stepped rather up the line as it moved.

“You’re certainly right about that.” Christine sighed as she shut her ration book and slipped it back in her purse. “How is Evelyn holding up? She’s had enough to eat?”

“Oh, yes. She misses her baking but we’re doing alright. Daniel didn’t eat much this week so…she had some extras.”

Christine frowned as her friend faded out with a small sigh.

“He’ll come around. You three should come over this week for tea and lunch. Our men always feel better when they can glance at each other.”

“I would truly like that a lot. Thank you.” Elizabeth said.

“Of course.”

Soon it was their turn to enter the shop and Elizabeth approached the counter with her ration book and her shopping list. She greeted the employee with a soft ‘good morning’ and passed over her book, followed by two more from her bag. Normally, each citizen had to be there in person to collect their rations but the man who owned the general store knew the Seavey’s well and given Daniel’s state, they permitted Elizabeth to collect the rations on behalf of him. Evelyn usually stayed at home with him as they didn’t like to leave him alone.

The owner of the store stamped each page for the week in the three books and gathered the wrapped goods from the shelf behind the counter:

12oz of ham, 6 lamb chops, 6oz butter, 6oz cheese, 12oz cooking fat, 9 pints milk, 24oz sugar, 6oz tea, and 3 eggs. To last a week. Nothing else.

They were lucky they had a vegetable garden out back but some families weren’t as lucky and fruits and vegetables were scarce.

Elizabeth waited outside the store for Christine to collect her rations and then the women headed down the street together again. They said goodbye at the fork in the road and Elizabeth soon approached home.

Evelyn’s job was to collect the vegetables from the garden so they were already washed and laid out on the kitchen counter when Elizabeth returned home. Elizabeth set the few bags on the table and Evelyn jumped up from the couch in the parlour to help her put the food away.

“Was it busy again, Mama?” Evelyn asked sweetly, holding out her hands to take the few cans from her and she set them in the cupboard.

“No more than usual, darling.” Elizabeth said. “How’s Dad?”

“Still sleeping. I brought him tea earlier but I dunno if he drank it. He didn’t answer me when I woke him.”

“That’s okay. I’ll check on him in a little while.”

The women were quiet as they put away the groceries and Evelyn hesitated, “Mama? What’s going to happen if the war gets bad and…and what’s going to happen if Britain gets taken over?”

“We don’t have the room to think those thoughts, Evy.” Elizabeth said sternly but softly. “We have only room to think positively and have hope.”

Evelyn nodded weakly and folded up the empty paper bags while Elizabeth put the vegetables away. The stairs creaked and Daniel emerged from upstairs, dressed for the day with hair brushed and face shaved. He usually took a while to get up in the morning up to that point in the war but still managed to have a reasonably normal day.

He approached his daughter first and pet a gentle hand over her blonde hair and pressed a kiss to her temple, “Thank you for my tea, buttercup.”

“You’re welcome, Daddy.” Evelyn whispered before shuffling off to put away the grocery bags.

He set the empty mug in the sink before turning to his wife and slid his arm around her waist to nuzzle into her neck.

“How are you doing, Dani?” Elizabeth asked softly, reaching up to run her fingers through his styled hair. “Did you sleep okay?”

Daniel nodded and kissed her cheek, “Missed you this morning.”

“Christine and I wanted to try and beat the lines at the store.”

Daniel only hummed, clinging onto her a bit more and let his eyes close as he held her.

“She invited us over for tea this week.” Elizabeth set her hand over his arms around her waist. “I think it would be nice.”

Daniel nodded.

“And write your son, please. He’s been asking about you.” Elizabeth said softly, giving Daniel’s arm a loving squeeze.

“I’ve been trying.” he mumbled.

“I know.”

Elizabeth turned to the door as Evelyn returned from putting the bags in the garbage, “Evy, did you save the teabag from this morning?”

“Yeah, Mama. It’s on the saucer in the corner.”

“Thank you, darling.” Elizabeth said. She leaned back into Daniel and he tightened his arms around her waist and she sighed softly, “We have to save all we can.”

Another day, another pound

So I know I said I was going to post yesterday, but I had a very long day and I was tired, so I didn't feel like it. I've struggled this week with motivation and energy and I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because of this heat- I don't know.

But with that said, I'm here now. And I've learned a few things! As I've said before, I am no expert and do not claim to be. I just know what's been working for me and that I can share that knowledge and experience with ya'll. So here we go.

What I learned this week:

It's better to get your bulk calories in at the beginning of the day. Breakfast should be your heaviest calorie meal. If you prefer a light breakfast, then focus your calories at lunch. This is because you're more likely to work off those calories during the day than you are at night after dinner. I know a lot of people prefer a heavy dinner- but this is a major reason why that weight doesn't come off like you want it to. You're not burning off those dinner calories!

Everything you do burns calories. Well, I didn't JUST learn this- I've known this. But for some reason, it didn't click! So don't think ONLY strenuous exercise will help you burn calories. Of course, exercise will help you burn them faster in a shorter amount of time, but if you can't get to the gym every day, you're still burning calories.

My apple watch tracks everything. I wear it from the time I get up in the morning til I'm ready to lay down for the night. And what's better than counting my steps? It counts the calories burned, too! Adding this at the end of the night helps me keep a better estimate of what I've taken in vs put out for the day for calories. Do yourself a favor- invest in something that keeps track of that (watch, fitbit, etc). It is well worth the money especially for weight loss.

Sundays are for meal-prep!!!

I meal prep for the following week(s) on Sundays. I typically prep every other Sunday for my work lunches. I do -not- meal prep for dinners.

Every Sunday, I prep my snacks for the week (usually strawberries and blue berries). If there's a new item I want to eat, I'll prep that up as well. Today, I wanted to add cabbage soup to the work lunch mix. SO, that's what I did. I made it in the instant pot, so this is the instant pot recipe- but this can be adapted for a regular stove top. I included pictures for reference so ya'll can see the sizes.

I also decided to meal-prep some breakfast; which I do not normally do. But the meal replacement shakes don't seem to be working as well as they had been previously, so I'm going to retire them for a bit.

Cabbage Soup

Ingredients:

2 heads cabbage, medium; chopped in large chunks

3 pieces of thick sliced bacon (I used Great Value brand); chopped and cooked

1 15oz can tomato sauce (Great Value)

1 bag Premium matchstick carrots (Bolthouse Farms- 3.5 oz bag)

1 sweet Vidalia onion, medium size; chopped in small pieces

1 tbsp. of the following: course sea salt, ground black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, Slap ya Mama Cajun seasoning (or Tony Cacheres- I like my soup to have a bit of a kick, but you can decrease or increase this amount to suit your tastes)

7 cups water (divided- explained in steps)

Directions:

Put the instant pot on sauté and set for 20 minutes. Chop the 3 pieces of bacon into bite sized pieces and begin to cook them until brown. (I cooked mine a little longer so the crisp wasn't completely lost in the soup)

While the bacon is cooking, start cutting up both heads of cabbage. Cut them into 1-1 & 1/2 inch chunks after removing the core. Set aside in large bowl.

Once the bacon is cooked to your liking, add 1/2 cup of water to "deglaze" the pot. This gets up all of that stuck-to-the-bottom flavor that you need. DO NOT DRAIN THE BACON. We need the grease.

Begin to add the cabbage a hand full at a time, making sure it mixes with the water and bacon pieces. Allow each batch to wilt down some before adding the next batch. Continue with the cabbage until it's all incorporated. Once complete, add 1/2 cup of water.

Add the carrots and mix with the cabbage and bacon mixture.

Add all of your seasonings into 1 cup of water and pour over the top of the cabbage. You can mix it now if you want to, or you can wait.

Set the instant pot to pressure cook, and set for 10 minutes. Once the 10 minutes is passed, allow the pot to Natural Release for another 10 minutes. After the Natural Release is done, use the manual release. * NOTE: this is a dish with a good amount of liquid. Use a potholder to dish towel to put over the valve when you do the manual release to avoid any splattering liquids.

Once the pressure is released, stir the soup and taste test it. Add any seasonings you feel like it may need.

Chop the onion into small pieces and add it to the soup. Add the entire can of tomato soup, and 5 more cups of water. Stir well. Pressure cook for another 2 minutes and allow to Natural Release for another 10 minutes. Give it one last stir and taste test, and enjoy!

Step one: Sauté the bacon. Ya'll see all that bacony flavored goodness stuck to the bottom?? We WANT that.

Step two: Cut the cabbage. Size isn't that important- but you do want bigger pieces as cabbage likes to shrink!

Step Four & Five: Mix the cabbage and carrots and allow to wilt a little bit

Finished product: big bowl of deliciousness

This recipe yields 20 cups of soup, which is 10 full servings. There are 48 calories and and 4.8g of proteins in a single cup of soup- but I recommend 2 cups being the serving size.

*This recipe can be changed to fit your specific needs. I do not add meat to mine other than the bacon, but you can add chicken, stew meat, etc. You can also add different veggies. I sometimes add canned diced tomatoes but I didn't have any today. Just be mindful of the added calories and adjust the recipe to reflect that (especially if you're using a calorie counter that allows you to create customized meals).

I got 6 meals out of it (would have been the full 10 but I only had 6 available soup bowls); my husband and I had a bowl each, and so did my son. There was some left but no one wanted it so it got thrown out. It was delicious and filling. And the best part? SUPER low on calories! Most soups are; and I will be adding more to my blog as I make them! I make a knock-off Olive Garden Zuppa Toscano, so that might be my next endeavor!

Breakfast:

For this meal-prep, I used eggs, Conecuh sausage links, bacon (same as the one I used for the soup), and sausage patties.

Breakfast # 1: Scrambled eggs, thick sliced bacon, and Conecuh sausage

Ingredients

2 eggs, scrambled

1 tsp butter (I used Country Crock Churn Style)

1 tsp shredded cheese (I used shredded Colby and Monterey jack Great Value brand)

1 oz Conecuh sausage (you can use any type of sausage- I just prefer this brand)

1.5 slices of thick cut bacon (Great Value brand)

Course sea salt

Ground black pepper

Directions

Make 2 eggs, scrambled with butter and whatever seasonings of your choice

Add the cheese to the eggs when they're almost done cooking

Cook the bacon in the air fryer for 6 minutes (time varies depending on how crispy you like your bacon)

Cook the Conecuh in the air fryer for 7 minutes

Put the eggs in to a freezer-safe bowl

Cut the Conecuh and bacon into smaller pieces and put on top

Freeze

This recipe yields 1 full serving. It has 295 calories and 20.5 grams of protein.

Breakfast 2: Scrambled eggs, Conecuh sausage, and sausage patties

Ingredients

eggs, scrambled

1 tsp butter (I used Country Crock Churn Style)

1 tsp shredded cheese (I used shredded Colby and Monterey jack Great Value brand)

2 sausage patties (I used Tennessee Pride)

1 oz Conecuh sausage (any brand, this one is just my preference)

Course sea salt

Ground black pepper

Directions

Make 2 eggs, scrambled with butter and whatever seasonings of your choice

Add the cheese to the eggs when the eggs are almost done cooking

Cook the sausage patties in the air fryer for 8 minutes or until cooked through

Cook the Conecuh in the air fryer for 7 minutes

Put the eggs in to a freezer-safe bowl

Like I stated previously, it's important to get the bulk of your calories during the day so you have the opportunity to burn them off. I've just been walking. I walk at work, I walk around the house- when I shop, that's when I get a lot of steps in.

Granted, walking doesn't burn a lot of calories. However, if you have your tracker on, throughout the entire day, you'll have burned at least 1 full meal off. It is also especially important to stay hydrated. Water no only helps with cutting down muscle pain (when you exercise), drinking a full 8 oz of water before each meal and after can help you feel fuller faster, and feel fuller longer.

I purchased a QuiFit 1 Gallon Water Bottle from Amazon. It arrived today and I plan to use it at work. I have the worst time drinking enough at work. The water from the sink tastes funny. We have a fountain that fills water bottles, but and don't always remember to bring a bottle of water that I can refill later. The simplest solution was to buy a water bottle and keep it at work.

I think that's all for today, guys. I have school work to do! I'll make a post later next week (unless something cool happens before then that I need to mention) that details what types of foods I eat for dinner since I do not meal prep those.

Albert Fish

Hamilton Howard ‘Albert’ Fish was an American serial killer, child rapist and cannibal. Some of his many media nicknames included the Gray Man, the Werewolf of Wysteria, the Brooklyn Vampire, the Boogey Man and the Moon Maniac.

Fish famously boasted to have had 100 victims, claiming he had ‘children in every state,’ however he did not clarify if this referred to rape, cannibalisation or murder or indeed whether it was true. Fish was a suspect in at least 5 muder cases and three were confirmed.Fish was born in Washington, wishing to be known as ‘Albert,’ after a dead sibling and to escape his childhood nickname of ‘Ham and Eggs.’ Fish had a relationship with a telegraph boy at 12, the boy introduced Fish to drinking urine and eating faeces. Fish showed deviant behaviour from a young age; writing obscene letters and visiting public baths to watch others undress. He had a family history of mental illness.In 1890 after arriving in New York City Fish claims he began work as a prostitute and began raping young boys. Fish became obsessed with genital mutilation. In 1910 Fish began a relationship with a man who he went on to torture and mutilate before allowing him to leave. Fish began to self harm including embedding needles into his groin and abdomen, after Fish’s arrest he had at least 29 needles lodged in his pelvic region. Fish also developed a growing interest in cannibalism, often preparing dinners consisting only of raw meat.

On 11th July 1924 Fish attempted to abduct an 8 year old girl but the child was saved by her parents. In May, 1928 Fish visited the Budd family on the pretence of hiring their 19 year old son to work for him, Fish claimed the teenager was his original intended victim but that he later decided on his younger sister, Grace Budd. He convinced Grace’s parents to let him take her to his niece’s birthday party, a trip she never returned from. In November, 1934, Grace’s parents received the following letter:

“My dear Mrs Budd, In 1894 a friend of mine shipped as a deck hand on the steamer Tacoma, Capt John Davis. They sailed from San Francisco to Hong Kong China. On arriving there he and two others went ashore and got drunk. When they returned the boat was gone. At that time there was a famine in China. Meat of any kind was from $1 to 3 Dollars a pound. So great was the suffering among the very poor that all children under 12 were sold to the Butchers to be cut up and sold for food in order to keep others from starving. A boy or girl under 14 was not safe in the street. You could go in any shop and ask for steak – chops – or stew meat. Part of the naked body of a boy or girl would be brought out and just what you wanted cut from it. A boy or girls behind which is the sweetest part of the body and sold as veal cutlet brought the highest price. John staid there so long he acquired a taste for human flesh. On his return to N.Y. he stole two boys one 7 one 11. Took them to his home stripped them naked tied them in a closet then burned everything they had on. Several times every day and night he spanked them – tortured them – to make their meat good and tender. First he killed the 11 yr old boy, because he had the fattest ass and of course the most meat on it. Every part of his body was cooked and eaten except Head – bones and guts. He was roasted in the oven, (all of his ass) boiled, broiled, fried, stewed. The little boy was next, went the same way. At that time I was living at 409 E 100 St, rear – right side. He told me so often how good human flesh was I made up my mind to taste it. On Sunday June the 3 – 1928 I called on you at 406 W 15 St. Brought you pot cheese – strawberries. We had lunch. Grace sat in my lap and kissed me. I made up my mind to eat her, on the pretense of taking her to a party. You said Yes she could go. I took her to an empty house in Westchester I had already picked out. When we got there, I told her to remain outside. She picked wild flowers. I went upstairs and stripped all my clothes off. I knew if I did not I would get her blood on them. When all was ready I went to the window and called her. Then I hid in a closet until she was in the room. When she saw me all naked she began to cry and tried to run down stairs. I grabbed her and she said she would tell her mama. First I stripped her naked. How she did kick – bite and scratch. I choked her to death then cut her in small pieces so I could take my meat to my rooms, cook and eat it. How sweet and tender her little ass was roasted in the oven. It took me 9 days to eat her entire body. I did not fuck her, though, I could of [sic] had I wished. She died a virgin.”

The letter led police to Fish who confessed to the murder.

After his arrest police were able to link Fish to two more murdered children, Francis McDonnell, 8, and Bill Gaffney, 4, both their bodies showed signs of torture and cannibalism.

Fish was convicted of the murder of Grace Budd and sentenced to death, he faced the electric chair on 16th January 1936, aged 65.
