The thing to me about the Doctor's companions is that they are, at their very cores, ordinary. And that's not an insult. They are human, flawed and messy and chaotic and petty and obsessive and clingy and kind and mortal and ordinary. And yet the Doctor chooses them again and again. Every Doctor is given a moment where they could choose to leave them behind. To keep moving. To go find someone else. To let them be ordinary. And yet the Doctor chooses the companion, sees some extraordinary in all of these ordinary people, because seven billion people and counting and the Doctor's never met someone like them.

to be clear, Im an RTD stan knowing he's a messy boomer gay and that loudness is exactly what this show needed after the previous era. I'd rather that then the tepid approach the previous era took towards its bigots. my man wrote in a "did you just assume their pronouns joke" that didnt make we want to kill myself instantly and that deserves praise ngl. did i find the end about the doctor understanding as a woman cringe as fuck? yes. I'd rather doctor who be boldly misguided than silent. especially in the climate in british news media in relation to trans women in particular.

the fact there wasnt a series 11 episode dealing with the new expectations of the doctor as a women, calling out the so called "fans" for believing she was any different was such a missed opportunity i think. it also would have probably given 13 some actual strong characterization

I hate when two characters with the same love interest (regardless of who is dating who at the time) interact in fics and it's clear the writer assigned who would be jealous as either some sort of moral failing or a way to put the jealous character down, instead of people being real about a character's personality. Some people just aren't going to be that jealous! Even around a partner's ex, or an ex's new partner! And sometimes someone is going to feel jealous because that's just a character flaw they have, and that also doesn't make them a bad person. Idk the use of jealousy in fanfiction is so incredibly weird, I hate it

with the current rewatch fresh in my head I can definitely say that 14 is WAYYYY more open with his emotions than 10. throughout the episode and is way less guarded around even new people like Shirley, but especially the Noble family.

it's a small and substantial way of differentiating this version of the character and shows the growth they've been on. I hope to see some more in the upcoming episodes but even this is huge. 10 saying "it killed me" to Donna's face is absurd but the 14 absolutely sells it ugh
