Soap gets antsy when they’re grounded. Busywork is unsatisfying. No matter how much he writes and files and reports it feels like he’s done nothing.

He’s the type to find pleasure in physical work. He’s only satisfied if his hands are more bandaid and superglue than skin; when he has something he can hold.

Ghost notices this, always. He keeps track on his people, cold persona be damned. He offers Soap something to do.

See, Ghost has a mane. Over two feet of hair, has for years. Didn’t have time to cut it during his single-handed purge of the cartel. Kept it after he got back, for the novelty of choice. He doesn’t do much with it, keeps it pulled back 99% of the time.

Soap has been obsessed with his hair ever since he first saw it. (Obsessed in Ghosts words, Soap might say concerned. He has a thing for hair care, sue him.)

The only time Ghost lets it down is with Soap.

When Soap starts twitching, spacing out, sneering, Ghost gives him a break. They go to Ghost’s room, and Soap brushes his hair out.

It’s soothing for the both of them. Soap works bottom up and then back down, taking out small tangles. He smooths oil over the dry ends and massages it into Ghost’s scalp.

It’s soothing, for the both of them. Soap does something tangible. Ghost gets some well earned care.

i was talking earlier today with my brother about what im going to do with my hair and he was like "you know what would look cool? if you did it half and half. like half black half white." and i was like "that DOES sound cool. but i have a character i made that has that hairstyle actually. i dont wanna copy him." and my brother looked at me and was like "you dont want to copy... the guy you made?"
