1: fic you're most proud of

i have several for different reasons lol but i was thinking about this powerful throwback earlier so i'll drop it in here: forward momentum is a rock band au i wrote when i was like 17 based on cw's wildly popular program the 100. it's a little odd in places because. i was like 17. but it was the first long project that i finished and it is something i still feel a lot of fondness for and i am so proud of it because i did it! it was the first project i committed to in that way. happy 7th birthday to that fic

2: what's a fic that took you to an emotional/dark/hard place?

writing stuff during the pandemic is very much looking back and going "oh, that was about the pandemic!" and nothing did that so extremely as stand tall, which is a blaseball fic about the snackrifice. i reread it a while ago and i was like. oh huh! a story about people experiencing physical separation who have to connect with one another via storytelling and adjust to the distance and loneliness! wonder what could've inspired that!

putting everything else under a cut bc i just realized how long this is going to be

3: what's a fic you're emotionally attached to?

oh i'm attached to many things i've written lol but i am going to shout out syrinx which is a taz balance merle character study about religion and is one of those things that i have just. always liked! sometimes there are ups and downs and sometimes "liking" things i write means going "yeah that was good" but this is one that i have always fully enjoyed and thought was sweet and i am immeasurably fond of it

5: what's a fic of your own you won't read?

my ofmd fic because it freaks me out looking at how many comments and kudos it has lol. i know this sounds like a humble brag but like 20% of the kudos i have ever gotten is on that fic and it's intensely intimidating

7: how does receiving or not receiving feedback impact you?

wow what a complicated question lol uhhh. the person whose opinion i care about the most is mine, let's start there. i try to write things that i am proud of and happy with. that being said! i like getting comments and kudos! i think it's cool when strangers read things i write and enjoy them, and sometimes it's frustrating when i put in a lot of time on something and it just...... doesn't get a big response. and at the same time i am always grateful for anyone who takes the time. it's one of those things where there are a dozen contradictory and equally true statements that i could say. i wish i could say the numbers don't matter to me, but they do! if i didn't want people to read what i write, i wouldn't post it. (there's plenty of stuff that i don't post!)

11: has a fic you've written ever caused issues/controversy?

there's a story here that i'm not going to tell lol but real ones remember free play (derogatory). my second answer is i wrote a page for the blaseball wiki recently that somehow indirectly resulted in a couple lore jams and major rewrites and issues. i don't really follow how like nobody told me i was involved but i guess i was

13: do you take pride in your writing, or does it embarrass you? why?

oh i'm so proud of it! this is a skill i've worked on and like i'm not kidding myself about my odds of getting published but that's not the goal, the goal is writing things for myself and my friends that i like and i am GREAT at that.

17: what is the best interaction/feedback/engagement you've received on a fic?

long comments make me happy! actually the thing that makes me lose it is transformative works, i've received three podfics and a translation and a sequel and some art (and of COURSE jamie who sent this ask sent me a physical bound copy of my d20bb fic destination as well as leaving a comment that delighted me and that's like. one of the all time coolest things.) idk i just think it's neat when my art moves people to make more art

19: if you could write an ideal fic, what would you include?

oh MAN what a question. uhh i'm never good at listing favorite tropes/plot points or things like that but i WILL say something i really struggle with is like. subplots and plot motion and things that feel external to the characters. so my ideal fic would include a strong subplot. (i am DYING to try and write a mystery sometime, i just haven't had a good idea yet.)

riz gukgak wakes up to a world of simplicity and ease, with two living parents and an entire new year of school waiting for him. it's a shame, then, that for some reason he just can't bring himself to accept it.

especially when a strange girl keeps reaching through the cracks of this new world and telling him to remember, or when he meets new familiar faces, who look at him like a stranger.

there's something wrong with this picture. only he can figure it out.

Sometimes it hits her that the new Aelwyn, despite slowly getting better, doesn’t exactly get out much, so it’s not like she should expect people to know that she’s different now. However, it still feels like a bit of a gut punch when someone looks at her and clearly only sees someone vicious and cruel, an accomplice in bringing about the end of the world (twice, even, but who’s really counting?)

docs ; what's the longest story you have ever written (pages or word count)?

answered here, tldr longest posted is my figayda d20bb fic (22k), longest written is my wip noble pining (87+k)

genre ; what's your favorite genre to write? is it the same your favorite genre to read?

mmmmm idk if there's any specific genre i tend to write myself, i usually stick to sappy fluffy get togethers, usually au's, which isn't really a genre? it's just the narrative equivalent of taking two barbies and mushing their faces together saying "kiss!"

i tend to read a lot of fantasy and like low grade sci fi in the published fiction i read, also a lot of YA romance novels and queer lit, some mythology stuff, etc. but i don't read a lot of fantasy/sci fi in my fic because honestly i'm kind of a snob and i dont have an interest in fantasy au's for most fandoms- especially like, modern/no magic canon that people try to write into fantasy/medieval? no thank you, respectfully <3

but yeah idk i've always been someone whos' very character focused both in what i read and what i write, and so characters and dynamics and explorations thereof that sound interesting are more important to me than the genre itself, if that makes sense- both in what i look for to read, and what i find myself writing

Not even a couple minutes into her careful watch, Sofia catches sight of some faint movement beneath the shade of the tree line outside of her former property. It’s incessant, the rustling, so she braces herself for a whole herd of deer eagerly. If only Dale could see it now. That’s where she’s wrong. What parts the grass instead is the slender tail of a feline.

Inspired by Emily and Murph having a backyard cat colony of their own, this is 24k+ words of Sofia finding some stray cats and finding herself in the process.

Mordred Manor goes from sleepy to wide fucking awake in less than a minute.

“What the fuck?” Fabian blurts.

“Shut up, Fabian; you’ll wake up everyone else,” Fig hisses.

“Yeah, I’m okay with that—your mom’s a super dope archer.”

“Come on, we can totally handle this ourselves.” Fig lights her hands up and turns toward the figure in the middle of the room. “At the very least, Gorgug could go hand-to-hand if it came down to it.”

“I dunno, we look pretty evenly matched,” Gorgug says, assessing the stranger in front of them.

“Hey, who are you?” Kristen calls loudly from the couch. “Just to speed things up.”

Their eyes look wild, Fig notices. Wild and apprehensive and paranoid, if not outright scared. Fig takes a moment to regard them—their large wings, dark skin peppered with glowing tattoos on their arms and shoulders, talons that clack on the wood floor. The bird-person in the middle of the room breathes heavily and assesses the situation right back, sizing everyone up in a matter of seconds. Fig feels incredibly seen as their gaze clocks her horns, the fire in her hands, the reddish tint to her skin.

They exhale and stand straighter, ruffling their wings and even the smaller feathers on their arms. Their eyes are fire, compact balls of flame that actually move, but clouded over. The fog seems to settle as they slowly breathe.

“Are you going to attack me,” they say.

“Should we?” Adaine immediately counters.

“There is a very high likelihood that I am more powerful than each of you individually, but even I would hesitate to engage in six-on-one combat.”

“You think you’re more powerful than us?” Fig scoffs.

They cock their head sharply, chirping as their wide eyes meet Fig’s. “You think the fire in my wings is ‘way fucking cool’ and you’re wondering what would happen if we fought on the same side, if our powers combined.”

“Ten seconds and you’re already thinking about being allies with a firebird who just appeared in our house out of nowhere?”

“I’m not—” Fig rolls her eyes at Adaine and stamps a foot. “They’ve got fire eyes, eagle talons, and giant fucking fire-wings; am I the only person who thinks that’s cool??”

“It’s pretty cool,” Gorgug agrees. “Hey, does anyone think it’s weird that we watched two movies about volcanoes tonight and then someone showed up who looks like they might be made of lava?”

“Hot,” Kristen mutters. Tracker slaps her again.
