My baby sister has heard of bnha and apparently watched some clips but only some tidbits from the 6th season (mainly the fight with Nagant, who is her favorite) And she very confidently told me that she knows all about keigo, who is hawks. I asked if he knew who dabi has, and she rolled her eyes and told me that yes, she knows he's touya, and that he used to be friends with keigo as kids!

She was very confused when I told her that... no, they weren't. They didn't know each other until adulthood. She insisted that she'd seen a video of them as kids together. I told her it was probably a fan animation, because a lot of people thought Dabi and Hawks knew each other as kids, since Dabi was the only one who knew hawks' real name. But it turned out he just tracked his mom down in secret. She insists that this is stupid, once again confirming that the "dabihawks secret childhood friends/rivals" theory is the only time fanon has ever been better than canon.

Dabihawks knew each other's names before anyone else in the world but more importantly, more interestingly- that also includes the viewers. That includes us. The speech bubble was blacked out and obviously we had the idea, but their was no confirmation on who Dabi was. And Dabi learning Hawks' name was shown as a past event, we did not learn it the same time Dabi did.

Dabi exploded in a gruesome display of blood, being unmade completely from head to toe. Izuku trembled as he watched, his stomach turning, but he didn’t let it show on his face. Batto sped to his side, the smell of smoke and burnt flesh wafting into the air after him.

“Don’t worry,” Chisaki said, amused. “I’ll make an example of him.”

Then Dabi was remade, but not as he was before. The discolored, stapled skin was gone. The black hair was left as a greasy stain against the wall. In place of the explosion of blood was now a man with raw, baby-soft skin and white hair. Chisaki hadn’t simply put Dabi back together. He’d healed everything.

Dabi didn’t take the time to notice. He leaped to his feet, large gauntlets of fire forming around his arms as he backed away, but that was as far as he managed. He dropped to his knees with a howl of pain, his eyes wet as he stared in horror at the blisters forming and bursting along his skin. Casually, Chisaki followed, unmade Dabi’s arms, and repaired them once more.

This time, Dabi didn’t attempt to run or fight. He simply stared at his trembling hands, a stark devastation painted upon his face.

“I noticed your skin was dead,” Chisaki said as he slipped his glove back into place. He squatted down in the ash so he was face to face with Dabi. “I fixed that for you. No need to thank me.”

“Put me back,” Dabi rasped, still staring at his pale, smooth skin. “Fix this!”

“I did,” Chisaki returned before tilting his head. “What a dangerous quirk, and you’ve no resistance to it. I wonder why you’re broken.”

Dabi made a strange noise in response. “I have to kill him. I have to. You have to fix me.” He was aiming for enraged, but his voice broke at the end. Izuku’s heart squeezed. Nothing was simple. He knew that. What had happened to Dabi to make him like this?

You can just barely see it, but there are cracks to Dabi’s right (our left) in the anime frame. He is also clearly looking down in the anime, and his face his smoking throughout that chapter, so that tracks.

Most importantly though, it just makes more sense to adapt the black speech bubble as a closeup rather than the far away shot it is in the manga. Sometimes things don’t hit the same when you change mediums, and since we don’t have a physical speech bubble any more, I think a closeup of Dabi soundlessly mouthing something would be a perfect interpretation of that.

I've been seeing this going around the tag and also on Twitter (forbidden, I know) but why are people still expecting another plot twist with Dabi's black speech bubble???

It was his name that he said to Hawks. Dabi revealed his true identity at supposedly Hawk's last moment in life. And plus it was a hint of leading up to his identity reveal in the war arc. That's it.

There's no other twist. The call me touya was the twist. I don't know why so many people are still thinking there's ANOTHER one when there isn't.
