the thing that I love about The Moon Will Sing is that it completely subverts the moon and sun trope, but in a completely believable way that, in my opinion, suits the trope way better.

the moon and sun are in no way equals. the moon is given everything it owns by the sun, and it can be taken away just as quickly. like the lyrics say, 'bore the shadows that you gave with no light of my own.' the moon literally shines only with the light given by the sun.

in this song, the moon and sun are used to depict a toxic relationship rather than a healthy one, the singer being in the moon's position, feeling that their love for someone consumed their own sense of self.

i love that the crane wives don't use the trope as it often is, and instead uses it to fit their own narrative. it's genius writing.

I’ve been away from home for the past couple of days and will be until about next week!! Until I can find a steady time work on things, here’s a reminder/offer to Support our beloved band members outside of just tcw!!

Emilee has a wonderful selection of solo/ collab music, a small YouTube channel, and a fantastic art account on Instagram!

Kate also has an Instagram, small channel, and some separate tunes! (Edit: I also found out she has a blog!! Here’s her most recent post!)

Dan also has an Instagram, although he isn’t as active as the others! He also has a YouTube channel where he shares some lovely tunes!!

As for Ben, this is quite literally the only thing I can find on him outside of the band. Thankfully my dear friend Lu (miserafemina on insta) pointed me to this lovely recording with interviews between songs! The man’s rather elusive, but I think it’s still worth including!!

I saw you like sapphic stories and the Crane Wives and I've just gotta ask you: have you heard of Burn the House Down by Kenna Jenkins? It's an alternate history novel abt the 1st woman president and her secret sapphic relationship/bearded marriage with her mlm best friend and has massive Crane Wives vibes (especially Shallow River, the Hand That Feeds, I Ain't Done, The Moon Will Sing, Tongues and Teeth, Ancient History, and Metaphor). It also has a subplot about arson at the White House and ft. An entirely queer main cast and really fleshed out characters!
