So here's something fun i discovered: Darren Dunstan (most well knows as Pegasus from Yugioh) was Giovanni on that Pokemon live show from the 90s! I believe this was the first thing he worked on related to 4Kids, before he started doing voice work!
He sings on it too! Has a whole song with Ash Ketchum.

YGO ARC-V is an adventurous journey of dimension hopping where the protagonist, Yuya Sakaki, had undergone some soul searching to develop his dueltaining other than to find his friend, Zuzu Boyle, who'd gotten sent adrift, to bring her back home. The depth of Yuya's character is intriguing along with the connection between him and his counterparts in the other dimensions, which is also tied to Zuzu and her dimensional counterparts. Yuya's association with his archrival, Declan Akaba, initiates the progression towards developing his dueltaining skills. Their Action Duels have an entertaining aspect to them for keeping viewers on the edge of their seats. “Can You Feel The Power” is a great catchy, upbeat opening theme to emphasize on the entertainment presented in their duels. Michael Liscio Jr impresses with his varied voice characterizations of Yuya, his energy and emotional tone at times, and the other Yu-boys. Emily Jenness is good with her vocal delivery on making Zuzu and her counterparts distinctive from each other. Daniel J Edwards is effective in portraying the entertaining quality of Dennis McField, especially with his singsong voice while demonstrating his showmanship, and voicing a dark tone when he's serious. The pacing for its first two seasons is good with the second season paying homage to the 5D's series well. However, there's a noticeable drop in the quality somewhere in its final season where it became rushed with the Zexal and GX series' homages being short-ended.

Yknow I find it kind of crazy that people have been literally CLAMORING for the sevens dub to drop. This must be a first for the franchise (in recent years). On top of that, people were straight up praising the VAs and casting when the switch game dropped. I remember when it came out I was like in disbelief at some of the tweets I was reading about it like positivity…. About a Yugioh dub?????
We have come a very long way. Makes me happy.

Profiles in Villainy
Maximillion Pegasus
Eccentric, ruthless, frequently histrionic, Maximillion Pegasus (sometimes known as Pegasus J. Crawford) was the founder and president of Industrial Illusions as well as the creator of the game of Duel Monsters.
Pegasus beloved fiancé had died in a tragic accident and he became obsessed with efforts to bring her back to life.  Having learned of the powerful Millennium Items, Pegasus designed the Dual Masters game, crafting the cards based on ancient Egyptian iconography.  This was all part of a scheme to draw out and obtain the magical totems (and the souls needed to fuel them) which he would then use to resurrect his lost love.
Aided by his skills, his knowledge and a good deal of cheating, Pegasus was able to accrue a number of powerful cards and Millennium Items, as well as the souls of various participants he had obtained through victory.  Yet he underestimated young Yugi Muto and was ultimately defeated.
Actor Jiro Jay Takasugi voiced Maximillion Pegasus in the original anime; with Darren Dunstan voicing the character in the English language dub.  The villain first appeared in the premiere episode of Yu-Gi-Oh!, airing on April 18th, 2000.

This was a commission for actor, director, and all-around groovy guy Darren Dunstan. He wanted some custom art of one of his most beloved anime roles, Yu-Gi-Oh’s Maximillion Pegasus, that he could autograph for his fans and it was a privilege to provide.

Leigh Whannell writes about victims
The focus of Leigh Whannell's films tends not to be the monster or the murderer. Look at Insidious or any of his more recent standalone films, and this is obvious. So it's interesting to ponder the Saw franchise which has infamously focused on Jigsaw as a character more and more over the years, to the point where he is unambiguously the protagonist and anti-hero of the most recent film, Saw X. Of course, Leigh Whannell didn't write Saw X or any of the Saw films since Saw III, but even within that original trilogy, Jigsaw is a very developed character, arguably moreso than any other character in all three films except Amanda, who is also a villain... right?
Obviously Amanda is a monster who has robbed the earth of countless years of human life (or whatever) but is that "who she is" in Saw II and Saw III, the movies where she is a main character? I think not. Especially in Saw III, Amanda is presented as a Jigsaw victim. Not just someone who suffered the indignity of the reverse bear trap, but someone who John Kramer, the Jigsaw killer, used and discarded when he deemed her no longer useful. It was not a good turn for Amanda's life, to become the disciple of a mass murderer.
In a very real way, Amanda is the one who suffered the most out of anybody in the first three Saw films. Remember, it's 2006. Dr. Gordon is presumed dead. Jigsaw says "I was his patient, and he was mine," implying that this relationship is in the past tense. There was nothing left Dr. Gordon could do for John, and there was nothing left John could do for Dr. Gordon. Dr. Gordon bled to death believing his family murdered. Adam starved for days before being suffocated and having his face split open. And still Amanda suffered more. Because she didn't only bleed from the body, in the reverse bear trap and the nerve gas house trap (though, of course, she did). Amanda also bled from her soul. She was made to believe she was broken, and it was only through the love of her greatest abuser, John Kramer, that she could be fixed. And as Amanda learns that John has not truly fixed her, she too learns that John has not given her true love at all. Her spirit is crushed (as is her circulatory system).
And let's remember the real main character in Saw III. It's not Jeff. It's not Lynn. It's not Jigsaw, either. The main character in Saw III is Amanda. She is the one who goes through a narrative arc in the film. It just happens to resolve in tragedy. And that's why we love Saw, isn't it? The tragedy of it all?
Of course, it makes sense that later writers and directors and even fans could latch onto the character of Jigsaw. After all, Amanda's character only works in Saw III because Darren Lynn Bousman and the fans loved Jigsaw in the first Saw film and wanted to learn more about him in Saw II. It is only natural that Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan would similarly be interested in John's character arc past Saw II, and so want to dig into John's past, and learn more about why John does the things he does. That's how we get to Saw X, where Jigsaw is the main character, and he is the one most challenged by the narrative. But in the tribe of Amandas, the best part of the franchise will forever be Saw III, because even another movie all about Amanda would still pale in comparison to the movie that made us love her and then lose her in 2006. Written by Leigh Whannell, story by James Wan and Leigh Whannell.

4Kids Flashback
I have here a little podcast reccomendation for people that are big fans of shows that 4kids dubbed (Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, One Piece, etc.) or even for some people that don't like the dubs but are interested in listening to some stories of the behind the scenes stuff:
4kids Flashback, a podcast where 2 hosts (one of them being a voice actor from 4Kids, Tara Sands, well known for voicing Mokuba from Yu-Gi-Oh plus a bunch of Pokemon characters) interview people that worked on that company (voice actors, voice directors, translators, editors) and see how they entered the business to begin with, what they did on those dubs, what they are doing now, stuff like that! They have already interviewed a bunch of the most famous voice actors (Eric Stuart, Veronica Taylor, Darren Dunstan) plus some people like the guy who created the One Piece opening rap, and the guy who wrote the "jelly filled donuts" line!
I think it is pretty entertaining: it shows how dubs were made back in the day, explains some of those infamous censorships that people still meme to this day, and I just find it neat to see people's opinions on the shows and what they are doing nowadays.
Here's the podcast website, and their youtube channel (it has all the episodes, plus a lot of promos and songs related to 4Kids stuff)!

Leon I haven't had friends who're super in to pokemon before, but I want to play in the Rockets Underground you're setting up in the shitpit. I've played through a few of the games before but not much outside of that, what would you recommend reading/watching/playing to get a better understanding?
OH MAN Dig are you ready for the Team Rocket Primer?
Games
Kanto - FireRed/LeafGreen has the most Team Rocket content, including a postgame encounter that leads directly into Gen II. If you don't want to deal with that, though, Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee is super fun too!
Johto - HeartGold/SoulSilver is the king here. It fleshes out the Rocket admins more. There was also a special cutscene that you could only experience if you had an event celebi that is important to watch.
Anime
Pokemon the First Movie - This movie fucking slaps, it's very important to the Pokemon canon. IMO the quintessential watchable Pokemon experience.
Pokemon Generations - This whole miniseries is on YouTube and is a game-accurate series. For maximum Team Rocket content, you'll want to watch The Chase, Lake of Rage, and The Legacy.
Pokemon Origins - This is a four-part miniseries about Red's journey. Episodes 3 and 4 are maximum Team Rocket, but episode 1 is great just because it includes the most traumatizing pokemon battle scene in canon. You can find it on Hulu or iTunes I think.
PokeAni - The anime canon (which is the same canon as the movie) is VERY different from the games canon, and Team Rocket's tone is totally silly. But two good episodes are 015 (Battle Aboard the St. Anne) and HS12 ("Training Daze"). Later seasons of the anime introduce more upper-level Rockets like Matori, but I really haven't watched a lot of it and couldn't give you episode recs.
Manga
Pokemon Special - This manga series spans every generation of Pokemon, and it's VERY good. Satoshi Tajiri once said that it's the media that matches the Pokemon world in his head. The Red/Blue/Yellow series is a must. The Gold/Silver/Crystal arc is great too, but goes WAY off the rails. The other Team Rocket arcs are the FireRed/LeafGreen arc (my favorite) and the HeartGold/SoulSilver arc.
There's some other manga too with Rocket content, but they're harder to find and it's been a while since I've read them, and they're also super fringe.
Musicals
I just like to remind people that Pokemon Live! the Musical exists. Giovanni is played by Darren Dunstan. And James is played by Andrew fucking Rannels. A lot of the songs are actually really fun, but the best one for the Rocket Primer is It Will All Be Mine.
