“Like wild geese,
we’ll only be separated
by clouds, my dear
dear friend.” - Sleeping with Bashō, SAYŌNARA, David Trinidad
Out of the mist, a shadow
You always seem to reappear when I think
That ghosting is something that also belongs to friendships
But ghosts don't disappear
They haunt so the meaning of this concept is lost
Into a mist of memories
A vapor of once upon a time
You are still undefined in this moment
When you reach out saying essentially nothing
But a clear picture emerges out of the words you once said
The words in which I once lost myself
In which I once found you

Driving Back From New Haven  // David Trinidad
Tim looks at his watch, reaches into his pocket, takes out a small plastic container and swallows an AZT pill with a sip of Sprite. “Poison,” he mutters under his breath. I glance over at him. We haven’t talked about his health the entire trip. “How does it make you feel?” I ask. “Like I want to live until they discover a cure,” he snaps. We travel in silence for a while. I stare out the window at all the green trees on the Merritt Parkway. Then he says: “I resent it. I resent that we were not raised with an acceptance of death. And here it is, all around us. And I fucking resent it. I resent that we do not know how to die.”

Can't stress enough how rare this royal performance [FREE] is for the calypso-loving community worldwide, especially those living in NYC. 'World Music' fans know what's up, and come July 2, on Sunday, Soca fans are in for another treat!
Tumblr media
David Rudder, at age 70 won't be performing like this for much longer on this earth, but not because he's old-er. Festivities begin at 8p promptly for these "Summer in the City" events, so make that move for him by supporting a MAESTR♡!

Dave Elcock passes on
Dave Elcock passes on
MATT joins the media community in mourning the loss of pioneering broadcaster David Elcock, who passed today. Broadcaster Neil Giuseppi wrote this biography of David Elcock in March of this year and it is reproduced here with his permission. One of the most beloved radio personalities that Trinidad and Tobago has ever produced was David Elcock who became known throughout the country as “Big…

What's CT drinking tonight?
Tumblr media
The Darkweb
Captain Morgan
Mountain Dew regular flavor
Instant coffee
Dark maple syrup
Pickled carrot juice
"It was supposed to make you gag!" kvetches my roommate, the Michelangelo to this bizarre little david "this was gonna be another one-sip-wonder!"
A teenage hacker, crowded into the back corner of an illegally converted loft in Port of Spain, Trinidad. He has been awake for 39 hours and counting. A triptych of monitors cast their stygian light on a near-empty can of pickled carrots. Breakfast (or is it dinner? He's lost track of time) is leftover rum mixed with flat Mountain Dew. He pours instant coffee into the mixture. "Fuck it," he says to nobody, "guess this is breakfast." He adds some maple syrup.
Unmistakably bad, but against all odds, not terrible. The sugar drowns out the alcohol without overpowering the more "subtle" flavors. Rum and coffee are an excellent pair, and find good company with maple syrup. Even the chemical citrus of the dew lends a hand. The result is awkward, but strangely harmonious. A rough draft of a better drink.
Earned four sips. I would drink more, but the caffeine content would be dangerous.

Sir David Attenborough's myotis (Myotis attenboroughi)
In 2017 a study found that bats on the island of Tobago were in fact their own unique species instead of being an isolated population of Black Myotis (Myotis nigricans) as was previously thought, making them the only endemic* mammal species known to reside in Trinidad and Tobago*.
*Native to a particular area *As of 2022, its status on Trinidad specifically remains uncertain.
