it's kinda fun joining new discords and watching in realtime as people realise that building communities and spaces that people actively want to be in is actually pretty hard work.
Connections and friendships and long term stability require like effort and thought and upkeep.
People always underestimate it, I think because of the 'school' effect where you just end up being friends with the people near you and it's really easy-- And only later on learning the skills it takes to continuously take on new connections and upkeep them without being in the same space.
Groups like a discord can become self sustaining but there's actually a lot of factors at play to make it a healthy community...
It takes a lot more than having a long list of rules and being active with a ban hammer. You need like... traditions and welcoming/onboarding and deliniated spaces that are fit for purpose and good VIBES and just a bunch of things that can't be fabricated and have to grow over time.

the thing about tme/tma is that like... yes, a tme person can experience transmisogyny in certain episodes. they can be the target of transmisogynystic violence. they're not transfem though. they are not as a class, as a lifelong experience, the target of transmisogyny- only in that moment. when they have the ability to assert that they are not trans women they are safe from that violence, and they are capable of using transmisogyny to other transfeminine people, to isolate and target them, to sexually abuse them without consequence, to talk over them, to benefit from that transmisogyny from a safety not afforded to trans women.
yes, tme is not 100% accurate, but frankly, it feels generous. because what non-transfeminine people are as a class is transmisogyny beneficiary.
and to be clear, every single attempt to deliniate this, for transfeminine people to describe those who are not the targets but the beneficiaries of their suffering, has received pushback. i use the word transfeminine here, but i have seen multiple people assert that people who were AFAB can still be transfem, or that transfem/transmasc is a false dichotomy. and AFAB/AMAB is a whole damn bucket of worms.
if you're more focused on picking apart the minutae of language transfeminine people use to describe our oppression than actually listening to what they're saying, you are not an ally to transfeminine people as a class.

unpopular and likely steaming hot take: referring to crowley as an angel with only she/her pronouns has a similar flavor to me as misgendering a trans person when you're talking about them before they transitioned. yes, crowley Does use all pronouns, but using certain pronouns to deliniate which "version" of crowley you're talking about is weird imo.
furthermore, the craze of trying to find crowley's angel name has a vibe of trying to find someones deadname to me and it irks me just the teeensiest bit. it is made entirely, wholely, and incredibly clear that crowley is not that person anymore, and while i am very interested in learning about crowley's role in heaven, we can learn all about that without knowing his angel name.
i know that the angels and demons don't have genders per se, and i'm fully aware i'm likely projecting, but i always kinda viewed crowley as trans coded (not necessarily trans) and this was further justified to me in s2.

would you be willing to talk about the different red tailed hawk colour morphs/variations?
Yeah sure!
Quick preliminary ramble, I assume this was about me saying that one hawk was a "probable Krider's" cuz it was very lightly marked + the location, and Krider's isn't a morph itself, it's a subspecies. I don't do much with subspecies because they are a scam created big by taxonomy to sell more genetic analysis(kidding. real reason is that they are very finnicky, get reorg'd a lot, and just aren't my thing). To me, RTHA is RTHA is RTHA. However I CAN talk about RTHA morphs, because if there is one thing buteos love, its have variable plumage(except RSHA, who does not do this, because they love me)
First lets set up a quick baseline. This is the platonic ideal of a RTHA
Tumblr media
Dark, prominent, neat patagial bars, a thin but prominent belly band, red tail, clear throat and breast, dark head, clear flanks
Now the morphs: There are three main "morphs", and nobody can agree on what they are. For simplicities sake, discounting that platonic ideal up there(which I think most would call intermediate), I'm gonna talk about light morph, dark morph, and rufous morph.
Here are some pretty extreme light morphs, like this is the far end of the variability scale
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Light head, barely visible or almost completely absent bellyband, really really lightly marked patagials, "bleached" reddish tail bordering on white with thin to no bars and no terminal band
This ones a bit less extreme, but you can still see what I mean. Very lightly marked, but it still looks like a RTHA lmfao(i swear its the white head that does it)
Tumblr media
Some extreme dark morphs
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fully brown chest, you can just barely, if you squint, deliniate a very very thick belly band from the slightly lighter throat, but yeah, basically the whole bird is dark brown. You can't really make out the patagials either.
Tumblr media
Sometimes they'll have pretty prominent dark terminal bands on their tails, which are never quite that bright brick red, but that might be ssp dependent, and as we've established, ssp scare me.
Rufous morphs: AKA they dunked my man in some chilli
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pretty similar to dark morph(and I think is occasionally lumped in with it, barring again, ssp shit), but the bellyband is more visible in contrast to the more red chest/throat/flanks. These guys are mostly notable for being constantly misid'd as RSHA by randos on iNat for some reason
Bonus: Partially Leucistic
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why are you white
any taxonomists or orinthologists feel free to yell at me for my complete disregard of subspecies, but i will not listen

An Introduction:
godfeelscritique is a blog created with the purpose of doing an in-depth critical analysis of the eponymous fanfiction saga godfeels, or: "i dreamt of feeling better". godfeels as a work is a continuation of the internet multimedia webcomic Homestuck.
APPENDIX A: godfeels began as a four-chapter character study of John, later and for most of the work, June Egbert, commonly deliniated from the character's "official" counterpart as June Eg8ert by the fandom. For the purposes of this writing, the character will be referred to as June Egbert for the remainder of this blog.
godfeels, later renamed godfeels 1, was published between March 30, 2019, and completed April 03, 2019, ten days before the prologue of Homestuck's official continuation, The Homestuck Epilogues, was published. godfeels 2, a work spanning three "parts" as deliniated on Archive of Our Own, started on September 03, 2019, and ended on October 12th, 2019. As of writing this introduction, godfeels 3 is still ongoing, starting in November 15, having concluded it's first "part", divergence syndrome on January 03, 2022, currently being in the middle of its run of its second part, double album A: no one does it like us, and double album B: DEATH HANDS. I assume you're familiar with the work to an extent before reading further. If not, in spite of however harsh my writing on it may be, I recommend you check it out. This blog won't make sense otherwise and I'm not here to sway opinions one way or the other.
This recap out of the way, there are a couple of questions I think are worth bringing up. I'll do my best to answer them concretely and succintly.
QUESTION A: WHY GODFEELS?
godfeels is a very fascinating phenomenon to me. By all accounts it's not really the most well-known Homestuck fanfiction, nor is it expansive in its attempt to divorce itself from its context as one, at the time of writing. However, it has a very clear niche it manages to really hit, and that niche is vocal about its love for the work to the point where it is almost defining for its scene. Not really an artistic scene necessarily, but certainly a level of an aesthetic scene. That scene would be the plural transfem with a deep attachment to the original work of Homestuck who links all three traits together into a partially coherent set of signifiers. A scene I happen to belong to.
Thus, I first read godfeels sometime in 2021. And honestly, it didn't do much for me. I've continued keeping up with it, and other works by its multiple creators, out of a sense of respect for its existence and place in the scene. But in truth, I'm fascinated by what exactly makes it not resonate for me in the first place. Therefore, analysis is in order.
APPENDIX B: I'd like to take this question to make a brief disclaimer. Nothing I write here comes from malice. I hold a deep respect for those involved in the project, those who love the project, and even to the project itself, for its cultural significance. This is simply an exercize for myself and anyone who finds what I have to say interesting. I'd ask anyone who reads to refrain from insulting any of the outlined parties.
QUESTION B: WHY NOW?
Truth be told, this is a project over two years in the making. It was sometime around the end of volume 3 part 1 (commonly shortened to 3.1), divergence syndrome. I realized the feelings of the vague curiosity and confusion the work stirred in me on how it managed to evade me completely began to coalesce into thoughts. I realized this would be a good thing to do, for myself mostly.
However, I thought at the time the most sensible way to do it would've been to wait until the work was done. Judge it as a whole, let it coalesce just as I'd let my thoughts. Two years passed, and today I just decided I'd begin straight away. Why exactly, I can't say, but I did come to the realization that these works were all at first written in conversation with other ideas, expecting themselves to be the end of their part in the discussion. I'm a firm believer in judging everything, especially art, on its own merits, and its own framework.
And thus, if any annotations were to be sparked by further updates down the line, I could do just as the work did, and tie back to it when the work called for it. So here I am now, writing this.
QUESTION C: WHO ARE YOU?
You can call me GC. I don't mean to hide my identity particularly, but I do believe in the idea that an author is a paratext to their own work. (You'll be seeing me use that word a lot.) So, I would ask that you do not seek me out, either.
I have made and will make reference to myself again, but this blog will have open communication channels available. If you'd like to talk to me, discuss an idea with me, dispute some aspect of this blog with me, I'd recommend the Inbox, though I'm partial to DMs as well.
APPENDIX C: You're free to make every assumption you want about parts of my identity as you see fit. I will however correct you if I think it's silly. I don't care for identity politics.
QUESTION D: HOW WILL THIS WORK?
I've considered many different ways of tackling this. A single mega-essay, an essay per volume, an essay per part, an essay per chapter. But ultimately, I leaned towards writing an essay per part. That's the process in which the works make the most sense, and the only way I can really conceptualize them being written, given some of the gaps between publishing.
I'll provide screenshot supplements, but I don't really want this to ever devolve into me just restating the plot, peppering it with personal opinions. I'll try to focus formally on both the form and the function of the text.
Again, I believe in judging a text under its own parameters. I don't believe in the characters being "out of character" by the metric of Homestuck, because in that case I would be reading Homestuck. But I do care about its own internal logic as a work, and it's logic beyond as to the intent of how that work was made, and why. Those are the parameters of style and substance, form and function, that I will be falling back on as my ethos.
QUESTION E: WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?
Today, April 10, 2024, I begin with this introduction. Over the next few days, I'll begin working on the first critique, an in-depth look at godfeels 1. Afterwards, I'll continue at whatever pace the process of reading, annotating, and writing follows. I can't promise specific time tables beyond that.
If you've read this far and wish to continue, welcome. This post will be updated with links to read in chronological order.

little character design notes I made myself!! sometimes when I draw some guys enough I have to start codifying why and how I draw certain things for myself to help streamline the process some
(alt text/image IDs/transcripts under the readmore!)
[Image description: A character design chart of all the Bugsnax characters. In the top row, left to right, is Filbo, Wambus, Triffany, Wiggle (with a detail shot of her head in profile), Gramble (with a detail shot of the back of his hat), Beffica (with a detail shot of her head in profile) and Cromdo (with a detail shot of his head in profile). In the bottom row, left to right, is Lizbert (with a detail shot of her head in profile), Eggabell, Shelda, Snorpy, Chandlo (with a detail shot of his head in profile), Floofty, and The Journalist. Each subsequent image includes each individual character illustration with notes on the design. In order:
Fibo! - the platonic ideal of a Grumpus - capsule body, noodle limbs - paws more handlike - cheeks can bulge out to make look younger / cheerier but otherwise little visible "neck"
Wiggle - small but visible muzzle, but nose sits "in front" - head wider on top, exaggerate "neck" cinch slightly so boa doesn't entirely cover - "cinched waist" to better imply constant hip movement - glasses arms only when they don't block eyes (prioritize readability) - she :3
LIZ - less cartoony than others, more "animal-y" - feet-paws small, esp. compared to hand-paws - "chin" can overlap scarf, which deliniates neck - more obvious brows - square muzzle & head (esp. profile)
SNORPY - like 80% leg - slight cheek bulge for expressions, but otherwise head goes straight into body - large feet compared to legs - cut off apron just before end of torso - nose can overlap upper lip - hair styled like Floofty, but short & mostly under hat - glasses & magnifiers secondary to eye readability
WAMBUS. - ref. face more off journal art (ie. tired eyes) than ingame model - thick build with more obvious delineation at neck and joints - I don't think I've ever been satisfied with a sketch of him where he's not holding a hoe
GRaMBle - extremely obvious round bulged cheeks - quick cross-hatch as shorthand for both argyle & knit texture - sweater hides divide of tum & legs at most angles - thick legs, big pawb - hat eyes nearly the size as Gramble's eyes - anxiety
Eggabell - literally just slap a face on an egg - seriously I just slap some pretty standard limbs on a whole egg - a touch of world-weariness in the face does help
CHANDLO! - body is a slightly chunky Dorito - wide stance w/ short legs, like a bulldog - squared muzzle, but rounder sloped head (compare Liz, Beff) - hat always at a slight angle, never 100% straight & level
TRiFFANY - very round, friendly facial features, cheeks - built THICC - make sure brim of hat only covers eyes in extreme poses/angles
Beffica - prominent, rounded muzzle w/ smaller tusks (compare Liz, Chandlo) - round torso, tum protrudes over where legs & torso meet - thick limbs, only slight delineation of joints - locket divides head & torso, little visible neck
SHELDA - same overall structure as Wiggle, but less dramatic & more drawn - extremely visible joints - facial features should all be "wobbly"; visible wrinkles - man I dunno how the necklace works just slap on eyes and teeth till it looks right tbh
FLOOFTY. - stout body & limbs, freakishly long arms - nose can overlap lip, but not as much as Snorpy - hair parts off-center (left) & gathers most at right - teeth more prominent than Snorpy's - soft, but threatening - Jumba Jookiba energy
CROMDO - man IDK how DO you draw this man??? - more based on in-game model than others - wedge-shaped; top-heavy w/ tapered torso and limbs - cartoon nose heavily subj. to Perspective Shenanigans - try to keep tusks from blocking view of eyes
The Journalist ("BUDDY") - more generic Filbo (slightly taller) - chronic Mike Wazowski syndrome - accessories (wristbands, backpack, camera) to provide recognizability

(Esoteric philosophical rambling of Mostly Riku; slightly Fei)
I've been thinking on how we don't really feel we fit into the plural/singlet dichotomy nor the "see ourselves as individuals/parts of a whole" dichotomy nor the final fusion / functional multiplicity and I think the underlying trait that makes it so that we dont really fall into any of the categories well is just the fact that we don't see alters / parts as individuals, but we ALSO dont see singlets and non-systems as individuals either because don't believe in the concept of "I"
In a philosophical manner, we see the concept of individualism and self as pretty nonsensical of a thing to seek after and understand and removing the long wound explanation on how we came through that and jumping to the best way I can describe how we see the concept of self, identity, and "I" is that "I" is just a reflection of our actions and natural way of being in the context of our surroundings and environment
And in that understanding of "personhood" there really is no deliniation to be drawn between the way "I" conjures and presents.
"I" is the natural existence in context of the surroundings and environment around "my" locus. "You" are the natural existence in context of the surroundings and environment of "your" locus.
In that sense, it is very easy for our parts to be both I and you at the same time. Sometimes we are just I and You when our locuses are far apart, but other times we are I AND you when those locuses overlap. Sometimes its somewhere in between.
And this applies to people outside of the body and what not, the only difference is that it is very hard and arguably impossible to have an overlap of locuses to the level people with parts and a system have
