i love revenge tragedies so so much because they have so much potential to explore such a nuanced and complex topic and give it the consideration and care it deserves. revenge and revenger characters are such powerful narrative tools, both of catharsis and self reflection. a good revenge tragedy will not tell you that "revenge is bad, seeking revenge makes you just as bad as the people you're seeking vengeance against, and nonviolence and forgiveness are the only paths to building a better world". a good revenge tragedy will present you with a really difficult and complicated situation, even something absolutely unforgivable, and ask you to consider questions like "will this really help anyone?" "am i doing the right thing, or am i just doing what feels good?" "how far can you go before your quest for self-empowerment and personal satisfaction becomes perpetrating the same violence that you claim to be fighting against?" "what else could i do to help build a better future for myself and others, to ensure that the cycle of violence doesn't continue after justice is served?" "what went wrong here? how did something that seemed so right go so wrong?" and "what would i do in this situation?"

sayings like "those who live by the sword will die by the sword" and "those who fight monsters should take care they don't become monsters themselves" often get oversimplified, misinterpreted, and used to criticize people from feeling justifiably angry at their mistreatment and oppression, and discourage them from seeking the restitution they're owed. but when used correctly, a good revenge tragedy will employ these ideas as tools of teaching and learning, of questioning and discussion, of analysis and communication, and as a reminder to think critically and to think for yourself, not as a moral lesson. and those stories are so incredibly and important and valuable to me, and i believe that they have a very necessary place in the world.

This is just my own interpretation, and I very much do not say that other reads are wrong or that people shouldn't write romantic/sexual qijiu fic, which I've read plenty of and is great, but

I think it's also valid to read Yue Qingyuan and Shen Jiu's relationship as being neither romantic nor sexual

they are still 100% each other's most precious person but in an entirely platonic way. This read to me mostly comes from the fact that their bond -- which was so strong that the splintering of it kicked off a sequence of events that led to the downfall of their sect and arguably to the end of the world -- formed in their childhood on the streets, before either of them had gone through puberty. And, critically, although they met again when they became teenagers and then adults, their relationship never advanced in any kind of positive direction after that.

I don't think Shen Qingqiu was Yue Qingyuan's white moonlight, or the one he got away. I think he was the one he couldn't save, and the inability to save him hollowed Yue Qingyuan out. It was a wound that was inflicted early enough that it took up half his world, and only grew as he did. I think you don't have to be romantically or sexually interested in someone to love them enough to be willing to die for them.

I think you can get a valid read of the situation that Yue Qi and Shen Jiu's relationship was never romantic, let alone sexual.

Scripting = Planning the vacation, researching where you want to go and who you want to meet. When you get there, you can do and see way more, you can even extend the vacation, but this is just to map out where you’ll be going and prepare for that

Shifting = Getting on the plane to get to your destination. If it’s a sleep method, then that’s just falling asleep on the plane and (obviously) waking up once the plane lands.

I am. currently untangling this thread of thoughts about the stamatin twins and daniil and this kind of. triangle that's happening. a three fold bullet for sure, the kind of recognition-awareness-understanding where three people become one, but to step back from that. when daniil and andrey talk, there's a specific shape of peter that stands in his conversational absence. so: triangle formation. it's opposite-adjacent-complementary to daniil and peter's conversations. it all goes back to that first conversation you have with andrey. it's giving knife. love it!

Thinking about how Will Graham views his anger as righteous which of course extends to Hannibal. A lot of his anger in s2 is over the fact that he finally trusted someone only for that person to betray him but it’s more than that. It’s more than just what Hannibal did to him. What he’s truly deeply angry about is that Hannibal knows his dark nature and not only knows it, but wants him to embrace the very nature he’s desperately trying to suppress.

He’s supposed to be the one that’s perceptive. He’s the one who is supposed to see it all while remaining unknown and unseen. And yet Hannibal recognizes what kind of person he has as soon as they meet. It’s not supposed to be that way. He hates that Hannibal is the one person he can’t hide from. Who will always see through the facade he puts on for others who buy into it. That’s why when Hannibal essentially tells him in s3 that he hasn’t changed, he’s fuming. If just Hannibal can believe he’s changed, maybe he himself can believe it too.

But he doesn’t. And deep down Will knows that’s just what it is too: a facade. Hating Hannibal is really just him hating himself at the end of the day. He takes a lot of his displaced anger out on him. He has these violent murder fantasies about Hannibal that symbolically can be read as him trying to kill off this part of himself. He can’t kill them off. Suppression only works for so long. The fantasies only grow stronger.

It’s only when he gives in at last during TWOTL. When he stops supressimg who he is. When he stops hating himself for it and overthinking about the act of violence. When he allows himself indulgence. This is when he experiences being at peace with himself possibly for the first time ever. At last, the internal battle that rages on inside him calms. The voices in his head go quiet. Even though this is brief, he knows that what he and Hannibal experienced on that cliff is a moment of peace in a lifetime of unrest. He doesn’t take it for granted, which is why he says what he does. When he stops fighting Hannibal, giving into the violence and also his touch as they embrace, it represents that he stops fighting with himself too. And isn’t that the most beautiful thing in the world?

my theorizing so far re the gods:

I think that many years ago Sol and Galicaea conspired to remove their celestial rivals (Ankarna and Cassandra, respectively) and steal their followers for themselves. The way this was done for Cassandra is known. It has been implied the unnamed god's transition from the more benign 'summer, sun' domain to the more aggressive 'fire, wrath' domain was a gradual transition of faith traditions, but the triggering event for this was not made clear. I suspect that Sol was involved with this, as in the modern day of Spyre he and his son Helio now embody the summer/sun aspects. The Rat Grinders insistence in involving specifically a cleric of Sol is also highly suspicious. There has been a lot of emphasis on the different aspects of the gods and how they might be influenced by their followers, but I don't think we should be discounting the actions gods can make on the mortal world through their followers, and I think teasing out this connection will be essential to solving the mystery. There have been FAR too many references to Galicaea and Sol this season for them to not have a hand in this. The absolutely insane series of events in the Hallowed summoning circle seem to point to this as well.

As for the rage god themselves, they seem to be dangerous, both to the world and to Cassandra specifically. Very possibly they were transformed into some kind of hellish or fiendish god, they became dangerous, and this is what ultimately prompted them being killed. However, I can't escape the thought that there has to be more to it than that. There's been a lot of talk this campaign about 'fairness', and you know what strikes me as exceedingly unfair? Having your domain stolen, your wife killed by her own siblings and being utterly powerless to stop it. It is unfair that you are unable to even mourn them properly or have any hope of their revival. You can't even speak their name. Rage against injustice is not inherently bad and is often needed to trigger meaningful action. What delineates useful anger and useless anger is what you do with it, which is a theme which has constantly popped up this season. Was Ankarna's developing rage justified, but it then turned into something ugly and untenable? Cassandra's domain has been characterized as "scary" and "dark", and in one aspect of her it IS, but it's been made abundantly clear this season that it is also protective and beautiful and needed. She was redeemed and made who she is now by someone recognizing and believing in that. It would make sense to me that the being she once walked hand in hand with would need that kind of belief to be redeemed too.

I just had a vision. Walk with me here. Now i'm not sure if anyone has floated this idea before. But i would pay Maggie Stiefvater good money (i'm talking gooood money) to write about what actually happened to Glendower. For example, show me the battles he was fighting, the relationship with Gwenllian. When she stabbed the poet to prevent war and it back fired. Artemus. Just like all of Artemus and the tir e e'lintes. Glendower (i was fully abt to type Gansey lol) and his men carrying his body across the sea and across the fields (the same ones the gangsey would later be exploring) when the shield was left behind and fell to the bottom of a lake (maybe it wasn't even a lake then) what was cabeswater before it was cabeswater as we know it. How did they find the caves?? How did they build the tombs. The valley of bones they found. Gwenllian being sealed in her tomb. Glendower being laid to rest in his. The demon!!! The magic going wrong. How did the other body they found die??? What did Artemus do?? Why did he hide??

I need the whole story and how neat would it be if the characters acted as foils or parallels to the gangsey. Like how they say Gansey was a lot like Glendower but Glendower had flaws or parts of his story that Gansey did not approve of. So we could have like Glendower's knights and magicians etc paralleling Blue, Adam, Ronan, Noah and Henry. Do you see my vision????
