you, the destroyer (you, the destroyed)
ffxivwrite2023 #10: divine (free day) of, from, or like God or a god.
Lunya/G'raha. The 7th Astral Era, Crystal Tower quests. 763wc. ⮞ G'raha Tia and an uncomfortably close encounter with the deific kind.
It's at a rest point before they find Doga and Unei and Nero when it happens. The others have splintered off, setting up camp and patrolling the perimeter of the plaza they've confirmed is safe enough, and G'raha is going over the rough map they've been piecing together since crossing into the Thirteenth; the road from the portal is surprisingly straightforward, but they have less than 24 bells to find their friends and get out and they cannot afford a single mistake in escaping.
At his side, Lunya is uncharacteristically quiet.
It's his fault, really, dumping a confession on her as he did. He remains hopeful despite the silence; if she means to turn him down, surely she wouldn't stick to his side as she does, sneaking him looks when she thinks he's not looking in an all-too-endearingly nervous way.
I think I'm in love with you, he had told her.
He felt like an idiot at the time—who blurts something that important over stew? And not to mention the word think. No, he knows. Has known for what feels like forever. Why did he word it like he wasn't that sure? Since when did G'raha Tia, Archon and Student of Baldesion, half-ass anything?
(A quiet part of him is aware of an underlying fear of rejection stemming from childhood. Not that the World of Darkness is the best place to unwrap such a thing.)
Still, the look on Lunya's face when he said it knocked whatever doubts he did have into oblivion.
He thinks he can allow himself to hope.
"Child of legacy," Lunya says in a voice that is not her own.
He is a scholar before all else, but in the presence of the Mothercrystal his curiosity is swallowed, drowned out by fear.
No one else is close enough to notice. He wishes he could scream and call for Zaya or Einar, but his voice is trapped in his throat, sticky like honey but with none of the sweetness, barbs tearing at his lungs.
"Let her go," he grits out with shaking hands. Crystal blue eyes stare back at him, glowing and empty and wrong in the twilight of this world.
"Thou cannot remain in the waking world," is what Hydaelyn says instead of answering his demand, "or henceforth this star will burn out."
"This star," he says, disbelieving. "The world is in danger and you've come to me with a warning? What of your champions?"
"This star," Hydaelyn acknowledges, before she places a hand over Lunya's heart, "and your own."
Nauseatingly, there is no lie in those hollow and stolen eyes. Bile in his throat, G'raha squeezes his eyes shut. Perhaps this is why She came to him and no other.
"What do I have to do?"
"Return the Tower to its slumber. Right the mistakes of thy ancestors and the path shall open to thee."
"Return the Tower to—how am I to do that?" He wouldn't dare call the Mothercrystal an idiot, not to Her face and not when she wears the face of the girl he loves, but—
"Hear," the Mother says. "Feel. Think." And then she is gone and Lunya is swaying, crystalline eyes fluttering shut as G'raha reaches out and grasps her by the shoulders.
I think I'm in love with you, he had told her. He allowed himself to hope because he'd looked into her eyes and saw it there first, overbrimming with joy and relief. He filled his cup on her and got drunk on what he'd seen and now the Mother would have him sober.
"Raha?" Lunya whispers, eyes of familiar violet and crystal blinking tiredly at him as he pulls her to his side for balance. "Wh' happened?"
"You don't remember?"
Lunya shakes her head, waves of starlight fluttering around her face. "Something… something about the Mother… but it wasn't like my previous visions of her."
"She…" G'raha hesitated. "She didn't have much to say. Perhaps she was trying to reach you and the other Warriors."
She doesn't believe him for a minute. Not even when she's still in a daze. But Lunya doesn't press even though he half-wishes she would. Maybe if she had they could have figured it out together instead of him rushing into the plan he thinks of when Doga and Unei grant him a boon.
Long past the aftermath of it all, when he finds the only way out is to offer his life for her own, he finds that he would have made the choice anyway even without the Mother breaking his heart for him.

Motivational song: Won't Bite (Doga Cat and Smino)
° It just so happens that he wasn't able to defy you this time
° You got undressed and immediately he jumped on you
° His extremely hard and long member (cliche wattpad I know) had dug into your thigh as he held you smushed both of your bodies together
° That was it for you, you hadn't even asked to top him, just did what he loved the most
° You pressed your thumb pad to the slit of his member as he hissed out
° You began to slowly kiss his neck and used your hand to push his chest back as he slowly fell on his back (Like literal slow-mo 'cause everyone knows how dramatic he can be)
° He muttered like 15 cuss words just because you inserted him into you
° It was a long night of him moaning like the subby brat he is

After her parents divorce Apple and her older sister Nilu were separated into different households, but the two often spent weekends, holidays and summers together often switching between homes. Apple being the younger of the two remained with their mother, while Nilu was placed in custody of their other parent - Mimi.
Her mother fell into a deep depression that lead her to a life of abusing alcohol and drugs alike. It wasn't long before she lost her job and turned to moving in her boyfriends to help pay the rent. None of these boyfriends ever lasted more than a couple months at least.

Ghost in the shell - In view of the locked in time thing A bunch of Allagan had tried to replicate creation magic and cross the time streams and time lock happened. Allagan brains in biological shell (a la Doga nd Unei) to wake up later and see how world progress but the original citizens can't leave their city Garlemald had wanted to come here for their tech but Zenos happened

What are the odds of Hylnyan going short Hrothgar(176-180 as with her OC Cat shpeshifter) for future town? Unconfirm if she's half Hrothgar or not on her father's side, mainly because she's already taller than the average Miqo'te.
Free Fantasia yes? maybe? Be taller than Thancred and start combing his hair like mother cat or something. To be the one carrying him instead This --> a Hrothgar NPC with a thing for Thancred and carrying him under her arm or slung over her shoulder because she can run faster than him. And they are fleeing from very big trouble Yeah I ship him with Miqo'te, Au Ra and Hrothgar women because he has a thing for tails.

Garlenmald rebuilding on the moon? Rebuilding civilization that Meteion destroyed? Help them makes sense of what had went down?
Dyes - Further minion replication of clothes - OC's colour scheme to come mayhaps~~~~ Thanks Yoshi-P!

Hylnyan ends up being Beastmaster if not Viper to avoid stealing Krile pictomancer thunder _during MSQ_
Pictomancer looks wicked cool but Hylnyan's weird aether is slower to effectively manifest for Pictormancer during MSQ. Main BRD-DRK dropping into GNB for solidarity

I just learned something really cool about the Rubicante theme in ffxiv!
So this arrangement was made by Kenichi Maeyamada
youtube
Also known as Hyadain! Who made some of the first ever fan versions of ff songs I remember finding on youtube over a decade ago!!
This is a remastered version of the 4 fiends theme video that I used to watch a lot back in the day!
youtube
I used to listen to a bunch of the songs in this playlist over and over while I was doing my collage work xD
My favourite ones were Doga and Une, chocobo!!!!, rap de chocobo, Ultros Boogie, and FF Main Theme remix. I'm ending off my night by listening to them all again xD
I've gone back to one or 2 of them over the years but some of these I haven't heard in such a long time it's nice to hear them again especially knowing he got to work on a song in a massively popular track in ffxiv :D

Final Fantasy III and Final Fantasy V
It's no secret that Final Fantasy V is considered to be a successor/psudeo-remake of Final Fantasy III, to the point where people will say to play just the former over the latter. They both feature the job system, the void and a weak story compared to their contemporaries.
But what if we examined them in painful detail?
Plot
Final Fantasy III is the story of four orphans who explore a nearby cavern after an earthquake. There, they find the sunken Wind Crystal who proclaims them Warriors of Light. The Warriors of Light then travel the floating continent, and later the world, in order to stop the encroaching darkness. In the end, it is revealed that the crisis was masterminded by a mage named Xande, who is disgruntled by how his teacher gave him mortality. They defeat Xande only to face off with the Cloud of Darkness, a being whose purpose is to bring the Worlds of Light and Darkness back to the Void from which they came.
Final Fantasy V revolves around a wanderer named Bartz Klauser, a princess named Lenna Tycoon, a pirate named Faris Scherwiz and an amnesic old man named Galuf. The four travel the world, trying to stop the crystals from shattering. Eventually, two truths become apparent: The crystals were sealing an otherworldly fiend known as ExDeath, once a tree that he become so stuff with evil spirits that the tree itself became evil, and Galuf is both king of a kingdom on another world and also one of ExDeath's arch enemies, the Warriors of Dawn. Thus, they go to Galuf’s world to stop ExDeath from shattering the crystals there in order to reach the Interdimensional Rift and take control of the Void.
Both plots feature the Void as a major aspect, but otherwise they’re very night and day. Final Fantasy III uses an odd “episodic” style plot, more so having minor escapades and plot arcs before the final act of the game reveals the overall main force behind everything. The nature of the evil threatening the world at large is left vague until the last half and outside of the striking “Boundless Ocean” section, there isn’t much of a sense of the world in dire peril. Final Fantasy V is considered the weakest of the Super Nintendo Final Fantasy games plotwise, but still has an overarching narrative. The first act revolves around the Warriors of Light attempting to stop the crystals from shattering, thought to be due to machines that overload their power. The second act sees the heroes attempting to learn more of ExDeath’s nature and find a way into his castle. The third and final act sees the heroes racing to unseal the twelve legendary weapons and storm the Rift before ExDeath uses the Void to erase everything. V more closely follows the serialized plot style of the super famicom FFs in that events generally build upon each other in some fashion. Still, the world building is considerably less so compared to both what came before (IV) and what came after (V) and it’s not quite as wild or shifting around as FFIV. FFV is generally considered the weakest of the SNES entries, though it doesn’t help matters in the west that V first made it over in the PS1 port. Additionally, the GBA port injects pop-culture references and general humor to the point that some believe it to be a parody of the series; While there are a few absurd aspects to it, FFV’s plot is overall told straight.
Interestingly, in addition to the Void, FFV uses an element first hinted at in Final Fantasy III: The concept of a crystal shattering. When the party confronts Goldor to unchain their airship, they notice that Goldor has what appears to be the Crystal of Earth. When Goldor is defeated, rather than allow the Warriors to have his beloved crystal, he shatters it. It’s not until the party meets Doga that they learn that the crystal Goldor shattered was actually a totally different crystal and that the true Crystal of Earth is in the Crystal Tower. Final Fantasy V takes this misdirect and expands it into the entire game: The first act showing what would happen were the elemental crystals to shatter, the second act making it a goal of ExDeath and the ending showing how the crystals return.
Characters
One of the most stark differences is between characters. The most immediate case is in how Final Fantasy III and Final Fantasy V handle the main characters; III’s main characters are four identical Onion Knights whose only shred of backstory is that they are orphans who lived in the town of Ur. For all intents and purposes, the idea that they are four characters becomes irrelevant after the opening sequence, as whoever is in the lead is the one who speaks. Still, looking at fanfiction and fanart from the Japanese shows that it works in a self-insert fashion, much like in FF1. Instead, FFIII puts more focus on the guest characters: Sara, Cid, Desch, Aria, Alus, Doga and Unei are significantly more involved with the world around them than the protagonists and showcase more distinct personalities. Unlike in Final Fantasy I, the party spends time with these characters, allowing for more of an impression.
In Final Fantasy V, all four party members have distinct appearances and backstories; Bartz is a wanderer and something of a goof, Lenna is caring but impulsive, Faris is somewhat brash, but caring underneath and Galuf supports the party while not being above shenanigans himself. FFV in particular started the trend of job-centric games having custom outfits for each of the protagonists, a trend that would be carried on for later games, including III’s own remake. This gives them even more personality, especially since the differences can range from ‘similar with a few notable differences’ to ‘completely different’. The supporting cast, on the other hand, is an interesting case; Final Fantasy V is the first game since the original Final Fantasy to lack guest party members (Including III’s guests, who did not fight in the original game). Certain characters may leave the party or be absent for a brief section of the game, but for the most part the only significant change is Galuf being replaced by his granddaughter Krile. Even then, Galuf’s skills transfer over to Krile, meaning that functionally they are the same character from a gameplay perspective.
As for the supporting casts themselves, both worlds usually have a character or characters who will guides the Warriors of Light; Bartz world has Cid Previa, the traditional FF Cid, who in this game seeks to atone for recreating machines that increase the crystals’ power output, unaware at the time that doing so would lead to them shattering. He is joined, however, by his grandson Mid Previa, an enthusiastic bookworm who aids his grandfather in tinkering with machines. The duo help Bartz and pals whether it be via retooling their ship, rebuilding and modifying their airship and more. In Galuf’s world, this role is filled by the Sage Ghido: A talking turtle who has much knowledge of the world and is quite snarky towards the Warriors of Light. There are additional supporting characters in both worlds: The kings (and queen) of the nations in Bartz’ World and the remaining Warriors of Dawn in Galuf’s world, but you don’t spend quite as much time with them as the previous characters.
Then there are the villains. Final Fantasy III had a practical rogue’s gallery of foes to face, ranging from mostly harmless (Gutsco, Goldor) to bonafide threats in their own right (Hein, Garuda). However, in an odd move for a Final Fantasy game, the main villain Xande doesn’t show up much outside of his boss battle and the room right before him. The Cloud of Darkness, the other main villain, is only loosely hinted at and is responsible for III’s infamous endgame gauntlet. Final Fantasy V’s situation is the opposite: The more independent villains aren’t anything to write home about, but the game features ExDeath and Gilgamesh; ExDeath is the cruel, hammy warlock who can be both diabolical on a grand scale and despicably petty. ExDeath is most comparable to FF2’s Emperor in that he is evil without any degree of implication that he used to be a good man; Fitting, considering his true nature. By comparison, Gilgamesh is a battle hungry warrior with a comical air, such as his lame excuses he uses before fleeing, who comes to respect the Warriors of Light as rivals, and perhaps even friends. Even before the game released, Tetsuya Nomura seemed to be aware that Gilgamesh would wind up as a popular character and Gilgamesh makes recurring appearances in later games of the series, usually as himself in a rarity for the series but occasionally through similar characters that have his name, much like the Cids, Sara(h)s, Bahamuts, etc.
Themes
Final Fantasy III’s overall theme is that of duality. This is primarily acknowledged through the balance between light and darkness. This theme is hammered home by the backstory element of the Warriors of Darkness and the World of Darkness, suggesting that Light isn’t purely good or darkness purely evil. However, it is also subtly acknowledged in a few spots, such as the main characters being children while the main villain (and two of the major allies of the heroes) being old people.
Final Fantasy V’s main theme is that of family and generations. Bartz is the son of Dorgann, one of the Warriors of Dawn. Lenna and Faris are sisters with their father, King Tycoon, dying to protect them. Galuf has a granddaughter whom he dies protecting (along with the rest of the party) and she succeeds him as a Warrior of Light just as Galuf himself was a Warrior of Dawn. Even the Cid of this game, Cid Previa, has his grandson Mid and the first scene with the two of them together is directly paralleled with a flashback of Galuf and (the yet-to-be-introduced) Krile. ExDeath was the main villain that the Warriors of Dawn fought and was defeated by their successors, the Warriors of Light. Even Bartz’s chocobo, Boko, gets a love interest.
The Void
The Void is a recurring aspect of the Final Fantasy series: III introduced it and V made it into a major plot point. In III, the Void was the force from which the worlds of light and dark came from and will someday return to. The Cloud of Darkness is a natural being that acts as a herald of sorts, manifesting to return the worlds to the Void whenever the balance tips heavily in favor of Light or Darkness. In V, The Void is a similar force of nothingness. In the game's backstory, a wizard named Enuo sought to gain power over the Void, even trading his immortality for it. He succeeded for a time, but was defeated by twelve warriors wielding twelve weapons. In the end, it is said that he was consumed by the Void, foreshadowing ExDeath's fate at the end of the game.
The twin worlds aspect is one that is shared by both games, although in different ways: In FFIII's case, the worlds of light and dark seem naturally split and the Void's emergence occurs as the floods of light and dark cause an imbalance. In FFV, the worlds were split primarily to keep the Void sealed in the Interdimensional Rift. Both worlds have their own sets of crystals though III handles it weirdly; Xande attempts to seal the crystals in the world of light causing a flood of darkness, yet the Cloud of Darkness seems to draw power from the Dark Crystals (hence it sending monsters to guard them). In FFV, the crystals of both worlds must be shattered in order to force the worlds back into one, opening the path to the Interdimensional Rift, and thus the Void.
Then there are the uber-powered weapons: In Final Fantasy III, the legendary weapons are stored in Eureka; A forbidden land underneath the Crystal Tower. The key to Eureka is hidden in another dimension, implied to be the World of Darkness. Doga goes there in order to search for the key via the Cave of the Circle (The english translation for the remake suggests that he had to look in the Interdimensional Rift, as it mentions a “rift between dimensions”. As far as I can tell, however, the Japanese merely states that he had to look in another dimension. Unei is the one who has what may or may not be a reference to the rift, but that’s a story for another time).
In Final Fantasy V, the twelve legendary weapons (which are weapons. And legendary. And even twelve of them.) are locked within the Sealed Castle Kuza. While the castle exists on Galuf’s World, the four tablets needed to unseal it (and the tome needed to open the locations that the tablets lay in) were split between the two worlds. Thus, the Warriors of Light are unable to go after the weapons until ExDeath merges the two worlds into one.
There’s also a sort of comparison to be made by Xande and ExDeath/Enuo: Xande lost his immortality and began toying with the forces of darkness, eventually drawing in the harbinger of the Void as he died. Enuo started as an immortal warlock, but chose to discard his immortality to gain power over the Void. Similarly, ExDeath is established throughout the game to be hard to kill, partially due to his nature as a tree; It’s only when he becomes overwhelmed by the Void and consumed by it that he is truly defeated, with the Void itself seemingly puppeting him as Neo ExDeath (I think. Neo ExDeath is kind of a strange existence).
World
All FF worlds tend to have significant differences and III and V are much in that vein. Final Fantasy has three world maps: The Floating Continent, the Boundless Ocean and the Surface World. The FC is home to two of the world’s three major powers along with a host of non-human fantasy creatures, such as fairies, dwarves and the unique-to-this-game Gulgans. The Surface, by comparison, is primarily human-focused with towns that are primarily themed after jobs. Many towns in III, albeit not all of them, have some sort of job that relates to them.
By contrast, Final Fantasy V also has three world maps: Bartz’ World, Galuf’s World and the Merged World. The towns of Bartz’s world seem to theme themselves after the elements where applicable, although once again this is far from a universal rule. Most notably, Bartz’ World is home to the Ronka Ruins and the catapult, remnants of an ancient civilization.  Galuf’s world seems to lean ever so more beastly and magically; Drakenvale is populated by beastmen, Moogles exist and live in forests and the four crystals are kept protected in a sacred forest rather than in towers.
As a minor aside, the castles in Galuf’s World use a different sprite from the castles in Bartz’ World. Once the worlds merge, their sprites change to match the ones from Bartz’ world.
Gameplay
And lastly, we come to the gameplay. The most obvious difference is that FF3 is a traditional turn-based game: Turns are “rolled” at the start of each turn, everyone chooses an action and the turn plays out. Final Fantasy V uses the Active Time Battle system introduced in Final Fantasy IV: Turns are measured in the form of meters that fill up for each character, with said character being able to choose an action and act once the meter is full. In particular, this system places an emphasis on being quick with one’s inputs, as enemies will no longer wait while you are selecting your action. That said, some games feature a “wait” mode that pauses the action whenever a character’s gauge is filled, mimicking the traditional turn-based style. The ATB style also recontextualizes spells such as Haste or Slow due to the nature of the system.
Then there’s the job system. The job system is the life blood of both III and V. In III, Jobs require a certain amount of capacity points in order to change from one or the other. Jobs have unique stats and some even have unique skills. As such, a significant aspect of III revolves around team building, in finding what jobs work well with others and how to get past the obstacles that the game throws at you.
In Final Fantasy V, the job system was heavily revamped. Jobs no longer cost anything to change and job levels now play a more pivotal role. In addition to the skills a job has to begin with, Jobs gain new skills that they can equip even when switching jobs. This makes the game a matter of learning what skills what job has and how worth it it is to shoot for them. Unlike III however, V is designed such that no jobs are practically mandatory to finish the game. This has led to a sort of challenge run known as “Four Job Fiesta”: A run where each of the characters is designated a single job and must clear the game with those jobs. While one theoretically could do a Four Job Fiesta in III, it would be much more challenging to accomplish due to the way the game structures its dungeons. Though there have been solo character challenges…
But I digress.
FFV’s take on the job system would prove highly influential to later games such as Final Fantasy Tactics or Bravely Default, which carry over the concept of learning skills to carry over to other jobs, albeit usually with a method of carrying over more than one skill.
Comparing to III, one could see a sort of carry-over from FF2 that would be remain to varying degrees for the rest of the series: While the characters were blank slats, the nature of how job cost is calculated meant that the game encouraged keeping certain characters to certain jobs, as jobs that were closer in similarity (i.e. Mage -> Mage vs Mage -> Warrior) tend to cost less than other jobs. The remake kept this philosophy with the Job Adjustment Phase which used a combination of that previous system and job levels to give a 10% or so stat decrease for a number of battles. The Pixel Remaster would get rid of any penalties for job switching, but does not provide any ability to carry over skills from one job to another. Meanwhile, later games would follow this to varying degrees, some giving the characters explicit jobs and roles while others would go in the opposite way; giving the characters defined skills/jobs but having a secondary system that makes said jobs largely irrelevant (primarily the magicite and materia systems in VI and VII respectively).
Conclusion
A sentiment that is usually shared about Final Fantasy III is that it is essentially the same game as Final Fantasy V or that the latter game is just the former, but better in every way. But is that true?
Well, yes but also no.
In regards to FFV being the same game as III… well obviously no it’s not. Different level design, different characters, different world, different plot, different theme, etc. They generally share some loose elements (job system, the Void as a plot point) but the gameplay alone makes for a fundamentally different game.
Of course, what people actually mean is that, for those who aren’t interested in the series or generally haven’t fooled around with the early games should skip III. And, well…
FFIII is a quirky little game. Phoenix Downs are finite. The overarching plot barely has any presence until the game’s last fourth. Job balance in the original is such that some jobs can be functionally useless or have niche uses and Sage and Ninja outclass everything else. Even the arguably best, most user-friendly version is an odd chimera with some questionable changes. The remake is very contentious and itself hampered by its devotion to the original game (especially when it comes to characterizing its protagonists).
So yeah, I don’t blame people for going “Just play V, lol.”
But at the same time, it’s not necessarily III’s fault. III was a famicom game and one of the reasons theorized for III’s lack of impression in the west is due to it being the last of the non-modern (at the time) games to introduce the job system. By that point, V, Tactics and X-2 had already come out along among other FF games that pushed the job system further like the ability to carry over skills. Some even blame the aforementioned contentious remake for giving III a bad impression, though this isn’t a universal opinion. In any case, III’s more limiting gameplay compared to V’s “Even-the-devs-acknowledged-that-Four-Job-Fiestas-are-doable” gameplay means that III gets much less respect, to the point where some of its concepts are probably more well known from XIV than III itself.
In my opinion, I, III and V make a trilogy of sorts: The original Final Fantasy introduced the concept of the Crystals, their effects on the world, the Warriors of Light and party customization (via picking your members at the beginning of the game). While the Void is not present in the first game, the final boss, Chaos, gets his name from the state of nothingness that the universe started as. III played with the crystals in several ways, such as the Water Crystal flooding the world or the Earth Crystal creating a massive earthquake. Most notably, the concept of a crystal shattering is teased, but ultimately does not happen. The Warriors of Light return, but it is revealed that there was another group known as the Warriors of Dark. III introduces the concept of the Void, which would go on to recur in later games. III also introduces the concept of characters switching jobs rather than being locked to a single one. Finally, V takes the fakeout from III and centers the first part of the game around it. Then, it takes the concept of more than one group of Warriors and uses it in the second act with the Warriors of Dawn. Finally it takes the concept of the Void and applies it in the third act. All while the job system takes the switching aspect of III and adds the ability to learn skills that can be carried over to other jobs.
So yeah, V did do what III did or was trying to do better. But that’s because V was able to reiterate on what III did to begin with (III, in turn, reiterating on what the first game did). So while that statement is technically correct, I can’t really say that it’s all that fair.

There’s a lot of things I don’t really care for or maybe straight up dislike. As I get older I’ve tried to adopt the mindset that if you dislike something that’s fine, but you don’t have to preach about it because at the end of the day, who the fuck are you and why does anyone even care what you think?
However a very close friend of mine suggested I should watch a show coming up recently called Oshi no ko. A show about an idol who gets pregnant and the reincarnation of a huge fan of hers somehow becomes her child. The premise of this show has several things I dislike or at the very least I have several reservations on. The only things it had going for it was the writer previously did Kaguya sama which is one of my favorite comedies and the studio was doga kobo one of my favorite slice of live studios.
Everyone I asked about the show continued to say how great the manga was but nothing was very clear as to what made it so good. I came to the conclusion it’s gotta be one of those “you just gotta see it to understand” type of shows. The ones that are like an experience more so than just a good story or whatever. I wont give any examples as this is extremely subjective but I’m pretty sure most people have a show like this.
Needless to say everyone was right. Oshi no ko manages to be one of the best anime I’ve seen in a long time. It didn’t really subvert my expectations as the show is very much still about what the premise sets out but the show doesn’t sugar coat it’s themes but it also doesn’t bog you down with it. You’re not constantly having the themes I’d rather not see much of shoved down your throat. Instead it manages to be a show that pulls back the curtain so to speak on the entertainment industry. Despite the ludicrous plot it manages to be very grounded in reality.
Don’t listen to the troll reviews on MAL. If you like a well written drama ignore the premise. Just try the first episode. Take it at face value. It’s not for everyone, but it also shouldn’t be completely ignored just because of it’s synopsis.
Also I apologize again @megaboy335 promised neverland wasn’t for me but I really do enjoy this one.

So in the wake of the newest episode, a lot of talk has been coming up regarding Himura Kana. And full disclosure? I thought the Reality Dating Show Arc was completely based on it until like, four days ago.
For those of you unaware, there's a lot of parallels towards the death of a real life woman, Himura Kana. She was a professional wrestler turned actress, who took her life as a result of online bullying regarding her role in a reality tv show.
A lot of people assume this was based off of this particular incident due to the extreme parallels: but it was more... extremely coincidental. OnK began it's publication not long before the incident. It was inked and planned out roughly a month before her death: that is to say, it is... an extremely odd coincidence. Aka Akasaka is a vocal critic of the industry and is passionate about these topics, and it would appear that it was written just slightly before the actual tragedy. The actual chapter came out roughly 6 months after Himura's death: at the very least, Akasaka did not chose to divert from his plans for the story until then.
Whether or not the Reality Dating Show Arc and what Akane experienced in that arc is currently not something that can be disproved or proven vs. what I initially thought. Unless Akasaka actually outright says "Yes, it was inspired by the Himura Kana incident," it seems to be more "They were written around the same time." And nothing short of a statement from Akasaka will probably be able to prove or disprove it. What happened to her is unfortunately not a unique situation in the world, and I personally think it's safe to assume that Akasaka was very deadset on writing something regarding this topic no matter what. Even if it was rewritten, it would have been the same in heart most likely.
Regardless. I think it was a major fucking failure in judgment for representatives from studio Doga Kobo to not reach out to her family before this episode aired. No shit they're pissed- I'd be pissed. I doubt anything could have made them like it, but it would have been nice I'm sure if someone had reached out to say "hey so there's a lot of similarities between what happened and our work, we can't make statements, but we'd like for you to at least be aware of the fact this episode is going to be made." vs. what appears to have been that her own family just learned about it with everyone else. It seems like Doga Kobo did not think about doing this: and that is a fucking massively horrific failure in judgment in doing so.
So yeah, I'm sure others have talked about this, but I wanted to share that information. That Akane's incident was absolutely based on Kana Himura's story is not something known for a fact from the looks of it (and if I am wrong PLEASE let me know with sources and links) and was written around the same time and likely before her death, although without official confirmations nothing can be stated as 100% fact unless Akasaka confirms it, it's fairly safe to assume that it was some of the oddest and saddest coincidental timing imaginable.
