Hi there! I really love your comics and how expressive they are. How do you go about making the characters in your comic so expressive?
thank you! 💚💜💚 I am REALLY bad at explaining things, so my apologies if this doesn't make a lot of sense, but maybe there's something helpful in here somewhere. :')
1. warm up! drawing is a physical activity, after all! so if I'm planning on sitting down and drawing for a while, I usually start off by taking a couple of minutes to doodle a bunch of circles and lines and random shapes, just to get my drawing arm goin' again and get back into the physical groove. just stuff like this:
Tumblr media
and just do that for however long you feel like! you can kind of feel when your arm starts to loosen up and your strokes get more confident. it makes it a lot easier to get those swoopy big lines and gestures!
2. play around with how you use your lines! paying attention to the shapes that they're making will change a lot about how much force and life your drawing feels like it has. (no way is better than another, it just depends on what effect you're going for and how it looks as part of the larger whole.)
Tumblr media
and you can also use lines against each other to get different vibes:
Tumblr media
it's not really a matter of "you need to make sure all your lines are always doing this all the time", it's more like...being aware of it, and getting that into the general thrust of a pose, if that makes sense? like a lot of smaller lines of action, beyond the big one that goes through the spine.
(just gonna use my own art as examples, apologies)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
if you have a good foundation of tension, then all of the little bumps and contours of a character's details won't get in the way of it, and it'll still come through.
and don't forget about negative space either! the spaces between things have their own interesting shapes too!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't mean this to come off as, like, all these extra things that you need to be constantly thinking about and stressing over. more like...just try different stuff and then see how it works and how it changes the feeling! if you find a good shape, see if you can exaggerate it and make it more interesting, and how that affects things! angles and shapes are a LOT of fun to experiment and mess around with, especially when you're going more cartoony. :D
3. acting!
just...spending a little time to think about what the characters are actually doing! (aka the "figuring out what everyone is doing with their hands" bit.) this is more a personal preference, but especially in multi-panel comics, I like to have them be in the middle of doing stuff. not just big actions, but smaller things -- like even just how they're sitting or standing -- so that it feels like we're looking in on the middle of a scene, instead of a couple of characters just standing around neutrally and staring straight ahead while talking at each other.
this probably sounds really obvious, but it is one of the most fun parts for me! I love trying to find some little action or something that they can be involved in, especially if it's relevant to their character or adds an extra joke. (for some reason this usually involves me being mean to Sebek) (I'm sorry)
Tumblr media
it doesn't need to be everyone Always! Doing! Something! all the time, especially if starts becoming distracting (sometimes they do actually need to just be standing around neutrally and staring straight ahead, especially if there's a bigger action going on that you want the audience to focus on instead). but even just figuring out some kind of non-neutral pose for them to be in can add a lot and make it feel less generic!
3. thumbnailing!
this is, again, very much a personal preference; unfortunately, every artist really is different, and we all have different processes that work better for us. so I can only speak to my personal experience! but I find what helps is to start REALLY rough -- not so much as in messy, as in not trying to start right into actually drawing everything out. like, literally just starting with stick figures and :O faces.
it probably doesn't sound relevant when talking about Drawing Expressively, but I find it's really, really helpful to have already figured out what everyone should be doing (acting!) and what the overall general layout and flow of things should be, before getting into the actual meat of drawing the characters. like having a sketch for the sketch!
Tumblr media
(good compositional flow is something I struggle with, and text layout especially, so this stage also helps a LOT with making sure things are fitting where I want them and staying consistent/not breaking screen direction/etc.)
then after that, I can go ahead and focus on getting those Shapes and Lines and Angles and all that, without having to think too much about the layout or where things should go!
Tumblr media
(of course, the downside of that is that my thumbnails are usually way better than my actual drawings, alas alas.)
Tumblr media
4. this is more philosophical, but...give yourself some slack. the stress of Making Things Look Good is, ironically, often the biggest problem. (see: thumbnails looking better than the actual drawings.) so...let yourself draw shittier and without regards to accuracy. make things just for yourself without thinking about posting or showing them to anyone else. draw stupid faces and wrong proportions because they feel better that way. focus on what's fun and not on getting a perfect end result. "draw expressively, not well", as they say -- you can always tighten up things like proportions and details later, if you really want to.
that's all WAY easier said than done -- god knows I haven't really managed it -- but even just aiming for that attitude really, REALLY helps. if your lines are confident, they'll look a lot more alive and expressive than lines that are exactly technically precise but have no rhythm in them. (this is why tracing photographs tends to look so weirdly stiff and unrealistic, by the way -- even if you're drawing realistically, you usually need to exaggerate and stylize a little bit so it doesn't look lifeless.) it's a balance between caring about what you draw, but also being willing to let things go a little bit.
↑ I hope some of this helps! I don't know if any of this was actually what you had in mind, let alone much of it actually made sense outside of my head. :') but hopefully you (or other people) will be able to get something out of it!

Hyrule Hulligans Harrass Dilf Dining Establishment
I'm playing around with figuring out tweaks to my cartoony art style for a project I'm working on and decided to test it out more by trying it on these four doofuses. I have to say, I'm really proud of how it came out. Look at how it came out! Look at the shape of Yunobo's doofy head!
That said, I need to actually go back and beat Tears of the Kingdom some time. Sadly I've heard that the Ganondorf Diner shenanigans have been patched out? Not that I'd end up doing that anyway but damn was that funny!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since this post will likely have more reach than most, I want to keep testing out this style on more characters and to that end I'd like to announce a limited time special for December 2-10th 2023!
Tumblr media
More info (and a few drawings I haven't posted) under the cut!
Tumblr media
STYLE COMMISSION INFO
So yeah I want to practice this style and other folks always seem to have neat ideas I wouldn't think of and I'm trying to raise some money to help send my wife on a trip next summer! Let's make cool stuff happen!
Tumblr media
Details:
Please email zeratanus AT gmail DOT com with the subject Style Commission
Cost is $25 USD, paid upfront via paypal. I'll send an invoice out for you once we've agreed on the commission
1 full body character, colored and cell shaded, no background
Please provide an image reference of the character, preferably in color and full body
Either OCs or Fanart is fine
Safe for Work Only
Unlike my usual commissions, these are supposed to be quick so no approval process. Once the commission is confirmed I'll get to work and post the finished product here on Tumblr when it's done
if you want to be tagged when its posted, please include your tumblr username in the email. Sometimes Tumblr refuses to tag certain accounts so I can't promise this hellsite will work but I'll certainly try!
I'm down to hear a bit about the the character's personality and try to incorporate that but the pose itself is up to me.
I think that's everything! If that sounds good to you, drop me a line!
Guess I'll end off with a few more unposted test images for the project this is actually for!

how do u draw teefers like that
Tumblr media
okay sticking the rest of my explanation under the cut because it's long but woooo mini-tutorial for cartoony teeth by someone who doesn't know how to explain things hope you're ready
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
things that i was too lazy add in but i think are still important:
NEVER be afraid to use references... if you can't figure out what you want, and googling stuff doesn't help, you can even go make faces at yourself in a mirror for a minute.
if you're not drawing in a realistic style, know when to add detail and know when to skip it. you don't usually need to outline each individual tooth unless the focus is on the mouth itself or you're going for a creepy effect... see the uncanny comment in the first slide
okay that's it uhhhh remember i'm not a professional? i just draw silly guys for fun don't take this as law or anything!!! have fun with it!!

for a while since i got into transformers 3 years ago and i loved the franchies instiantly even since i was a kid especially the designs of transformers and Seeing fan arts and fan Designs and fans make thire own continuity made me me want to start learning to draw when im ready but i don't know how to draw cybertronians so do you have any tips and advices for someone who want to learn to draw transformers characters both Traditional & digital art?
Biggest advice I can give is: "Break a character apart into simple components!"
Drawing bots is honestly not that difficult, I find it much easier than people because you can more easily break a character apart into simplified blocks.
When it comes to designing characters it can take a few times to get one you're happy with so doing lots of basic sketches can help. References are always useful too! Every artist uses references.
Here's how I do it (In this case I'm doing an alt design for tfe Nightshade):
(It's not a definitive guide as you kinda have to figure out what works best for you both in terms of technique and art style. I'm aware my art style is definitely not for everyone, as it veers more on the cartoony side. I've had comments about how my faces all look effed up etc XD)
Initial sketch
Tumblr media
Break a bot down into basic shapes, circles and sausage shapes for more rounded characters and boxes for squarer ones. I normally start with the head and draw the rest of the body down from it (torso and arms then legs then any back kibble that might be visible) Think of it like the protoform beneath the armour.
To help with figuring out a pose I'll often use my toys. It can help you visualise where their arms and legs etc go along with whether part of a bot is actually visible from a certain angle. For example in this case:
Tumblr media
(Yes that's my cat chilling in the background)
This can help you to figure out if a certain design can pull a given pose, for example would a bot with kibble on their hips or arms be able to move their legs or arms a certain way. I used POTP Elita one as a reference for my SG Megatron a lot for example as they've got very similar builds. But this is not essential.
(There are mannequin apps on mobiles etc. you can use to help with pose references too, and image searches are always useful for references.)
For more dynamic poses it helps to think about how the character is moving, so add a curve to the torso/spine to add to any implied motion etc.
Details
Tumblr media
Once I'm happy with the basic shape and pose I typically add the armour over the top. Again the head is usually the first bit I do. You can see I got a bit lazy with their left hand and just did a scribble here XD
Inking
Tumblr media
Normally when inking I do the edges of each armour piece first then add any details on afterwards in a finer pen. Generally I'll do one body part at the time eg. fully ink the arm before doing the head etc. Its best to make sure you do parts that are in front first!
Here's the finished picture:
Though it'll need some digital cleaning up at another time.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
As for digital art...
I can't really give much advice on starting a drawing digitally as I never quite got the hang of it (colouring and corrections I do digitally but all my line art is traditional), I need the feedback of a pen in my hand and pressure on the paper to get it right.
These days the Hardware I mainly use is a refurbished huion art tablet (it was about £120 when I bought it) that's probably the cheapest your going to find a graphics tablet with a screen. BUT it's really not essential to get one especially if you're just starting out. Basic graphic tablets without a screen (just a pen and a pad) are much cheaper or you can use a mouse. I used a mouse for ages when I was first starting out.
In terms of software, for colouring and edits on the PC I use GIMP (I've been using it since like 2009 so I'm not really going to change any time soon!). It's freeware software and can do a lot of stuff, but it's user interface isn't the most user friendly especially if you're not familiar with graphics software but there are plenty of tutorials available for it. I'll try to remember to make a post showing how I use that another time :) as I'm not at my computer at the moment.
There are plenty of alternative image manipulation/graphics software to use as well, some free, some free but with ads, and some paid for (either one off payment or subscription). It's best to see what other artists have to say about them though as I've never really used them!

I’ve been following your art for a long time and I was just wondering what do you use as inspiration for your stuff, and do you have tips for people who kind of want a cartoony stretchy and very expressive art style (sorry if this is too much to ask I just love your stuff! Also what do you use to draw your stuff)
Thank you!!! Nice to see long-time followers :3
When I was first learning how to draw cartoons I bought the book Cartoon Animation by Preston Blair. It's a really good source that covers all the basics + some animation. When I started animating as a high school freshman I copied his walk cycles before trying anything on my own
This is a very old mini guide I made for a friend on how I push poses so the art's a little outdated but the idea is the same... I think line of action is neat lol I try to make the character follow the line as much as possible with the only thing that might break the silhouette being appendages like tails etc
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My personal rule for expressions is that it just has to look like an exaggerated version of a real expression a human could actually do. To me it's not as appealing when artists add wrinkles in random places with no forethought, faces stretch around the eyes and mouth and chin and that's where I usually place wrinkles
I take inspiration from a lot of shtuffs these are just the ones I can think of right now:
-Fleischer cartoons. Favorite 30s studio besides Van Beuren
-obviously 90s cartoons, for Smokey my main inspiration is Twisted Tales of Felix The Cat and Pat Ventura's shorts for Oh Yeah! Cartoons. Animation wise I try to do something similar to season 2 of Space Goofs and Cats Don't Dance
-90s 2d point and clicks. Two big favorites are Toonstruck and UFOs
-anything by Ralph Bakshi. Fully aware it's bad lol but Cool World is one of my favorite movies ever
-underground comix but specifically 80s/90s newave stuff
-music!!! I like psychobilly and ska and it helps me draw. Massive Frank Zappa fan too
I think it's good to vary what you take inspiration from. When I started drawing cartoons I didn't let my myself improve because I only took inspiration from 30s and 90s cartoons and was so bent on perfectly replicating it that I didn't develop my own style. I see a lot of cartoonists blend together because they're only influenced by ren and stimpy and looney tunes that they don't have their own voice or bring anything new to the table
I recently just switched to my relatively new ipad so I'm using Procreate and then Procreate Dreams and Toonsquid for animation. Since 2020 I had been using Firealpaca and pencil2d because they were both free. I used a screenless Gaomon tablet I got for 30-40 dollars. I do all my sketches on paper and then airdrop them to myself since my hand doesn't move as naturally when sketching on a screen

not a question but basically any time i remember your art exists im looking it up and down and trying to take inspiration from it. your expression work is always top notch, and the way you depict faces is the perfect balance between cartoony and well defined
oh my god this is such an amazing compliment! thank you so much!
you know, i think this has been a long time coming. im going to take this as a chance to go in depth about how my style works, why i do what i do and how i do it. do keep in mind that none of this is me saying "this is the objectively correct way of doing art" but rather just how my own process works, what I like to see in my own art.
that balance that you speak of comes from a commitment to underlying structures. what im going to call the stylization sandwich
Tumblr media
i start with a clear, well defined solid structure, i add whatever wacky cartoony features i want on top of it (none the less strongly tied and guided by the underlying structure) and then i refine by adding as many more realistic, grounding details i want, although you can go too far with it so i gotta be careful or ill end up with those shitty "cartoon character IRL would look scary!" clickbait drawings.
Tumblr media
(quick aside, this trend fucking sucks, its obvious the artist went out of their way to make the drawing creepy, this pretension that "actually the character would look scary irl" deliberatly misundertands the principles of stylization, its as creatively bankrupt as jokes about mario eating mushrooms)
getting back on topic, the point is that, as long as the underlying structures are solid you can build whatever you want on top of them and it will make sense
Tumblr media
a key tool here is internalizing the way the proportions on the face work. and i say internalize because obviously i dont actually have the golden ratio memorized inside my head nor do i stop and measure and calculate all the proportions in the features. i just read a lot about drawing, i drew a lot, i tried to always keep a critical eye to what im drawing and see if it "feels" disproportionate. once you get an eye for it then you know how far you can push things before they complitely break
Tumblr media
let me give you another example of what i feel is a botched execution of this.
Tumblr media
if you look closely at the face on the left there are a lot of things that dont make sense. the corners of the eyebrows dip down into the eyes when usually the eyes are enveloped by the eyebrows, the way the beard grows around the nose is just not how facial hair is distributed, the mouth is too big, etc. on the left i used photoshop to reorganize the factions into something that makes a bit more sense to me
(another quick aside, the real big problem at the heart of the original drawing were not so much the proportions but the tangents, when different lines touch each other like this that is usually a big no no but that is a topic for another day)
also a lot of it is just me cheating. yeah i cheat. you ever heard how people say there is no innate talent and its all practisce and hard work. well, yeah, that is mostly true, but is also true that some people are born with inherent advantages. either taller or more predisposed to being thin or with better facial structures or better innate hand-eye coordination. i was born with an uncanny capacity to visualize stuff. i have whatever the opposite of aphantasia is. i can borderline hallucinate things if i want to. and that goes coupled with the visual intuitions i developed through practisce and training.
Tumblr media
so first come the learned wisdom, and then comes the innate talent that helps me exploit that learned wisdom to its full potential
Tumblr media
on top of that is corporeality, i try to draw in such a way that it conveys depth and weight to the things im drawing, certain kinds of stylizations dont care about that and choose instead to have their drawing look flat, a classic one is the UPA style
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
is a very fun style! very cute, very dynamic, very expressive in its simplicity. it became very popular in the 60's and 70's. personally i choose to go in a different direction. i draw in such a way that if one were to turn my drawings into 3d models not a lot would get lost in the process.
Tumblr media
whereas other artists....
Tumblr media
...not so much
but yeah, ultimatly it all goes back to underlying structure. any drawing can work
Tumblr media
as long as you have a strong foundation underneath.
PS: if you like my style i cannot reccomend enough the art of @rezuaq i feel they follow a lot of the same principles i talked about here but i could be wrong.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
they have been my biggest inspiration as of the last 4 years, i shamelssly stole the design of one of their characters for jennyffer. go to their blog and give them a like

Btw hot tip. Here’s my secret for drawing every single day and not getting sick of it and avoiding art block. Not that this will work for everyone all the time. Hell I still have days I don’t draw here and there. But posting it for those who will find it useful because it has served me well. So here it is…
You don’t have to draw consistently, and it’s honestly really helpful to change it every day.
Draw in other styles.
Draw with other materials. Doesn’t have to be fancy stuff. It can be notebook paper and pencils.
Switch between bigger brushes and smaller brushes. Little pencil. Big sharpie.
Draw cartoony. Draw more from observation.
Use color. Leave it sketchy.
Draw a subject you don’t usually every once in a while. An animal. An object. Anything.
Lack of variety in a task can be something that exhausts the brain, actually. And lots of people tend to learn faster with art if they don’t limit their scope of what they try. You don’t have to keep doing every art thing you try. Not every way you try to draw has to be part of your art practice forever. But variety is super beneficial to avoid burning out and learning.

Number one advice is always that practice with references is your friend. But it also depends on what you use and how you use em.
For one thing- if you’re trying to draw people with more motion, it might help to try and practice referencing someone that’s also in motion. What I like to do is take a screenshot of tv shows/movies I’m watching when someone happens to strike a pose that I think would be fun to draw. And when I’m feeling bored (or if I can use them for something) I’ll go back and draw characters in those poses.  (I’ve mentioned before that I do this with columbo, and hes gonna be my examples lol).
Tumblr media
Like, to me this picture feels like we’ve really caught this Stan in the middle of a conversation- because its based on a guy in the middle of an actual conversation.
There’s nothing wrong with practicing using things from pose websites or stock images for reference of course, but if you think your art looks too stiff it might be just because you’ve been looking at stuff that IS stiff. When you take from videos it is still deliberate posing but its going to have momentum and emotions behind it that will carry into your drawing. (Also, if you’re going to use YOU as a reference, take a video of yourself acting out a scene instead of just taking up one pose- then you’ll still have that motion)
.
Now another thing is when you’ve got your reference, how are you drawing it? If you are slowly and meticulously copying the pose they’re in, that can also make things end up stiff. I like to sketch out the basics of what the pose looks like as fast as I can. Don’t erase anything, just go till youre done. And dont spend more than a few minutes on it.
Tumblr media
This is the kinda thing I usually end up spitting out when I’m using a reference. Then I go over it again and make it all purty (...sometimes).
Tumblr media
You can set a stopwatch for yourself  and practice with different pictures to help you learn to draw things out faster. I think I used to set mine for 2 minutes? (And dont cheat! When that stopwatch ends you either restart and try again or move on to a different picture.) Remember you’re just doing the sketch at first, not the actual finished drawing.
I think the method is called “gesture drawing” but I’m not 100% on that. But it’s worth looking into. You’ll be able to find people who can explain it better than I do, and give you more resources too.
And another thing you can do as a warm up or to get yourself used to loosening up is something called “blind contour drawing”. That’s where you draw using a reference, but don’t look at the paper/screen that you’re drawing on. The picture WILL obviously turn out ‘bad’ in the sense that it will look all mixed up, but it will help get you into a fun mind space.
.
And lastly to take things in a different direction, one more thing you can do is play with poses from cartoons. Even if your style isnt cartoony- people who make cartoons are masters at making their drawings feel fluid! (Usually through fun exaggeration that you wont get from real people!)
Tumblr media
So those are a few things that may or may not be helpful! And when youve got enough practice in you can translate this into your regular way of drawing.
Tldr practice by swiping frames from tv/movies, drawing them really fast and ugly, and then prettying them up after. And see if that helps you.
and also look into gesture drawing so someone smarter than me can tell you what to do!

ur so cool like omg- also do you have any recommendations of someone wants to learn how do a more cartoony style? Like what resources should I use because i love the look of your style and others and im just struggling on how to do it- again- ur so cool- sorry if this is worded weird or blocky I don’t know how to really communicate well
thank u ^^!!! also ur good! as for your question (this might be long and it may not be the best so forgive me)
I wanna give a disclaimer in advance that you're free to just straight up not listen to me at all if any of my advice doesn't sound like it'll help you!!!
I usually try to draw inspiration from different eras of cartoons that appeals to me. I grew up watching ALOT of cartoons from different places and decades and just having that type of exposure really does broaden the line of what a "cartoony style" can be. I don't think there's really any certain way to draw cartoons, I think it all depends on the artist. if you say your art is cartoony then it is! you don't have to follow specific rules and parameters to fit into that category imo, just do what works for you!
For resources I'd say to just look for cartoons and artists* that you think would be good to take inspiration and learn from! (and since you already mentioned that you love the style of others, you can use those as resources lol)
this is a personal thing that i believe would be considered a resource, and you dont have to follow this but if you haven't learned (what I consider) some of the basics of art (i.e proportions and how to see shapes in objects/bodies etc) then i think it's good to start with that first. learning the basics to then know how to use them and break them is probably my biggest advantage when it comes to drawing but thats just me
*when taking inspiration from artists it's always important to transform what you're learning into something that best reflects you and your style. straight up taking someone's style will not feel as satisfying as being able to come up with your own way of drawing. if you like the way someone uses colors in their art then use that as a stepping stone and not as the ONLY way to color. ALSO ALWAYS BE SURE TO CREDIT IF YOU POST IT!!!!!!!!! it's better to be open that you're learning and using an artist as a resource rather than say nothing and have people assume you're copying or something ykyk
sorry that a lot of this is just me repeating the same thing over and over but it's true lol, having inspiration is the best way to transform your art into something that's more appealing to you
also sorry for taking so long to respond to this ^^; i'm not too good with being concise when it comes to giving advice so i was trying to really simplify this and also irl stuff was goin on :3 but if you have any more questions then i'd be happy to answer!

Omgggg
Sksjsks I went onto my insta and saw that someone liked this… old Jolynes from like, 2015-17 or so that I never got to finish (they’re all on my old laptop… I will rescue my files one day… this was my old cartoony style. I’ve revamped it a LOT. It used to be so much more loose… I kind of wish that it still was because it made the style look more simplistic and free? I’ve always been a huge fan of simple art styles!) I remember making an attempt at drawing every canon Jolyne outfit that I could find (at least the official colored drawings, not the ones from the manga since that would’ve been too much for me. I have the Jojoveller (I bought the Jojoveller back when it first came out from Japan and paid like, almost $200 for it orz….. should’ve waited for the price drop lol. I have every JJBA artbook tbh. But that helped me track down most of the official Jolyne stuff. Not all but a lot of it!) I’d drawn up at least 20 outfits at this point. At least I think so? These were just some of them. Hopefully, I’ll be able to retrieve my drawings again… the faces that I used to draw on my old style used to be so ugly, sorry.
Tumblr media
Here’s an example of this same style but revamped to now lol…
Tumblr media
(Yuki wip…. The bodies have more standard anatomy but the hands are still blocky like??? The faces are prettier tho…. Has it lost a bit of personality? Maybe… I do like my new style tho… But could I still even call it a cartoony style, especially since it looks more anime than before :/…. Uh, I’m thinking too hard on this :(….)
Tumblr media
Another example is this Rengoku… it’s a little diff from the Yuki one despite being the same cartoon like style? (Barely cartoon anymore…) I don’t usually draw the nostril slit for this style but I did so for Yuki since it just looked better… idk if I’m gonna start doing that or not, I’ve literally been driving myself insane over deciding if I want to start drawing nostrils or not… for this Rengoku, it’s definitely more accurate to the style that I was pushing for but hm….. Similar to these Makima’s…. I didn’t draw the nostril…
Tumblr media
I like to keep the ears very simple in this style as well and again, look at Makima’s hands. They’re supposed to be blocky like this hehe. The Yuki wip is more of an improvement of this same style but I’ve been so all over the place with it… I feel so bad, omg. The most polished example that I could find immediately of the original cartoon style was of these Shinobu’s… see how round and free everything is!?
Tumblr media
Don’t even get my started on the chibi styles…. I have a handful… because I’m indecisive. The Sukuna wips are from a new chibi style that I’ve been thinking about and I rly like it… The Kak/Oc chibi was for a commission that I had sm fun drawing for. I still like the style! I’ve always loved when artists left the pupils white for some reason? I wanted to do that, too! I forgot to color the lineart in the girls skirt lol….
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This style with Sanemi and Uzui is rly cute to me as well… I will not be retiring it. I kind of hate the old chibi style with Josuyasu tho. Hideous to me. And overly complicated. I don’t really like chibi styles that have TOO much going on, especially if they’re not as cute since chibi’s are supposed to be cute. I said ugly but beauty in art is subjective sjsjs… if they’re pretty and cute than idc. So I technically have three chibi styles that I like.

Ohh actually, I have two other chibi styles….. fuck, I just don’t have any pics of them that I’ve uploaded, only saved as files. One isn’t really a serious style at all tho, they were for fun (experimental) and the chibi that you can see hanging in the corner of Yuki in the wip above is of another simpler style as well…

IM LUCIFER!!!
I go by he/they/it pronouns
I am a minor
I’m an artist and sometimes an animator and writer!!
I don’t have many other socials but I do have a TikTok!! (Same user as my tumblr)
I love making fanart of characters from fandoms I’ve been in such as fnaf, dsaf, Dhmis, Batim, cuphead, spooky month, welcome home, undertale, animal crossing, deltrarune, the owl house, invader Zim, Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, I Feel Sick, Squee!, and sometimes my own characters!
I’ve made other posts about my ocs if you’re interested under some form of an oc tag lol I also have other tags like #rambles and #Lucifer loosing his marbles (first one is just me talking and the other is me talking but I’m going wacky)
Please only send in asks if they’re drawing requests. Unless you’re an irl friend or a mutual. I do not feel comfortable when people send in asks. Even if it’s asking for money. I am a minor and there is no way for me to send you money. ⚠️
If you’d like to hear more about my AUs or characters please don’t hesitate to ask! I love talking about them
I also SOMETIMES posts vents but I’ll usually delete them within a little bit so just ignore those lol
Drawing requests are open!!! However I won’t be able to get to them for a little while because I’ve got other stuff to do
I’m currently really into: Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and Invader Zim!! (Sad to see deltarune go☹️)
If you ask me to do something (for example continue an old au or draw something) I might not always respond/or do it. I probably have something going on that results in me not responding! So be patient and if you send me an ask i might not respond, but I really love when people send asks!
Alr that’s about it’
Tumblr media
Drawing request info⬇️⬇️
Tumblr media
So yes as I said I do take drawing requests! I don’t charge or anything, it’s just something fun I like to do!
I will be able to answer/respond to requests however if I have something going on or will be busy for a period of time I will not be able to work on anything. I will update when I am able to take requests as often as possible!
I will draw:
Cartoony/non realistic things
Ships
Animals/anthropomorphic
Gore (I’m not super good at drawing it but I will^^)
Preferably 1-2 characters depending on complexity but I can draw more if requested
I won’t draw:
NSFW
Realism
Compships/ships I’m not comfortable drawing
Thats basically all I can think of for now. However if the request is something I personally don’t feel comfortable drawing, I’m not afraid to kindly decline the request. I apologize for any inconvenience this brings💔
NOTE: I CAN AND WILL REFUSE TO DRAW ANY REQUEST I AM UNCOMFORTABLE WITH‼️‼️
Hope this helps if anyone was wondering <3

Lore dumping my fnaf au
Tumblr media
I just remembered that I inserted myself and my best friend into the au for funsies (you'll notice I do that a lot. This is how cringe I am)
In my first draft I went on a rant abt how much I hated Wilbur's face but after going back to fix it I just needed to add his glasses LMAO. Initially I forgot about the face paint until I stared at my ref LMAO it's supposed to look faded and I think I did a pretty damn good job
Other than that the rest is fine. Erm. I didn't think I'd yap so much about that the actual lore is below the cut lawl
Tumblr media
This is Maya!!!! (she/they) she's the mechanic in the pizzaplex, is addicted to caffeine, and is my bestest friend !!!!!! In the au we live together and also work at the same place that's so funny ‼️‼️
They usually work the night shift but if there needs to be emergency repairs during the day they're always on call for that. Nights usually consist of checkups and clean up of the animatronics and androids (will get into that later).
Tumblr media
Clearly, I have a favorite, so he's also my favorite in the au itself LMAO cSoda works in the daycare but often leaves to bother the animatronics ☝️☝️‼️‼️
the daycare has an art station so that's where they work, they also help clean up and watch over the kids with the daycare androids !!! Who are *drumroll* Mumbo and Grian !!!!
Tumblr media
(I forgot the makeup in this doodle,, and apparently the white stripe on the red part of the dress uggghh) the daycare androids are supposed to be more human looking to not scare the little kids, but cartoony (and tall) enough to differentiate from the human coworker. I like to imagine their faces are rly simple bc they're LED screens with projected expressions to make emotions n stuff. Plus I wanted to keep their faces similar to their skins with an in universe reason for it pfsjshgdhdh
Tumblr media
Tumblr keeps bugging out every time I wanna post and it's DRIVING ME INSANE !!!! half this post got deleted and I'm SO MAD ABOUT IT but anyway here's the refs I made like 2 years ago. Their designs haven't changed since I made them so I probably won't remake them unless I start hating my old art enough LMAO
The canon heights I never wrote down so here they are: Ranboo 8'0, Wilbur 7'2, Maya 5'4, I'm 5'7, Grian 7'0, Mumbo 8'0, James 7'0, Tommy 6'6, Jimmy 5'5 and Schlatt wasnt in the AU at the time but he's 6'4
Tumblr media
I didnt really make this au for anything except silly scenarios and because making the designs were fun pFF ALSO I FORGOT TO MENTION Sneeg is dj music man !!!! I never got around to drawing him before since I just figured out recently I wanted him to be dj music man so yeah !!
I know this isn't that much of a lore dump but I think I got all my thoughts out for now lawl everything will be under the animatronicfication au tag :v
Tumblr media
I have GOT to draw Wilbur the way I used to. The biblically accurate animatronic eyes do NOT look good in my art style 😭😭 also I just noticed I basically painted the same thing into my sketchbook wtf I completely forgot about this doodle until I found it after digging for au art 🤯🤯

Hiiiiii, so any advice on drawing dragons?
I WILL TRY MY BEST.
So, uh...when I was originally learning to draw dragons, I learned via a how to draw book by Jessica "Neon Dragon" Peffer, which I cannot find now (and also can't seem to find online?), but uh, I might end up repeating some of that advice, haha.
Dragons are...well, because they're made up, you can get really flexible with drawing them! But I still find it helps to think about what animal/animals you might be basing your particular dragon off of? (If you're basing it off anything, anyways.) So for me, I tend to look at:
Bat wings! I mean...wings in general, haha, but dragons tend to have bat-like wings, so looking at their general structure can kind of give you an idea of how to do those.
Birds! Like...in general, haha. Specifically, though, I tend to think of scales as "pseudo feathers," so it helps to look at what birds' feathers do.
Various reptiles, mostly for the structure of the face or the claws.
I'm kind of used to just jumping straight into things, haha, but if I'm struggling to get a pose down, I'll usually just...start with something like this:
Tumblr media
(Which I think is pretty standard anyways, but shhh.) Basically just...I'm thinking about where the joints are and where the head/body should be and just putting that down on paper.
And then I fill in shapes:
Tumblr media
I, uh...have a lot of speculative biology stuff in the back of my head, haha, so I tend to think of things like:
The chest should be a little broader to accommodate a keel.
The wings should probably be larger and reach down towards the tail to help with flight.
The wings are basically still arms, just repurposed, and the muscles/bones/etc. should be pretty close to the shoulder.
Longer, thinner snouts a lot of the time, to help with flight.
(Also this helps me with poses, too, because I get a better idea of where everything actually IS in the space.)
That said, the speculative biology stuff is a me-specific thing, so I think in general it's more helpful to think like...what kind of dragon are you looking to draw? Cartoony dragons or dragons that are mostly designed to look "cool" are going to look different than dragons that are trying to seem "realistic," so it helps to figure out what sort of route you want to go with, and then block out the shapes from there. (Ex. If I wanted to do something more cartoony, I might exaggerate proportions or use a lot of shapes that I thought would help get a specific personality across--like a thin, snake-like look for something I wanted to seem clever, or a blockier look for a stronger, more bull-headed one.)
And then once I have all that blocked out, I go into the details:
Tumblr media
Aaand there's more thoughts on speculative biology stuff here, haha. Like:
I think of scales as almost like...pseudo-feathers. I tend to only add a couple along the neck/back (since fully scaling a dragon is...a huge pain, and a couple of small scales still get the point across).
I usually include lines for wrinkles/folds in the wings, as well as to kind of indicate where the wing skin's connecting to the rest of the body.
Also since wings are, again, just repurposed arms/hands, I try to make sure I keep that in mind with the 'fingers' + thumb.
The horns are like...growing out of the skull, so I also have a tendency to put a couple of jagged lines there to mark where the skin ends and the horns begin.
Detail-wise, again, I think it's more helpful to think about what your specific goal is. If you're drawing something you want to feel realistic, you'll probably want to think about like...the places the dragon would live, how they'd get around, etc., to decide on details. (Ex. A very aquatic dragon would probably be a lot more crocodile-like.) But if you want to do something like, say, really lean into a more magical-based dragon, then you'd want to think about what kind of magic it could use and how that could play into its design. (Ex. A space dragon might have flecks of stardust or debris floating around it, like its got its own gravity.) Basically, just think about what sort of details would get your ideas across best, and go from there!
Iiii...don't know how helpful that is, but hopefully it gives you at least a starting point? I figure the main thing, at the end of the day, is just to have fun with it, so take everything with a grain of salt, haha; it's entirely possible what I do/think about won't work super well for everyone.
Anyway, I hope you have fun drawing dragons!!

Heyy- Just wanted to ask..
How did you figure out your art style? I'm guessing just practice, But your AUs and OC always make me smile ngl 😭
-- 🥔CD
hii!! this is a very interesting question! it’s something I’ve actively struggled with for a long time and still do tbh!
but I think since half a year ago now.. I’ve realised that the style I most like to do is more cartoony, I take a lot of inspiration from older animated films such as Disney or don bluth or any other that isn’t under those brands.. but generally 2d era of animated style since I too am an animation enthusiast. so what I did was study how like the artists of an animated film draw eyes or noses and stuff like that!
But yes you are true it is some practice.. but personally I think an art style doesn’t come completely out of the blue.. usually you are inspired by something you like or another artist you really like.. and believe taking bits and pieces you are inspired by and use it as tools to build your own style! Just drawing things from different franchises helps you explore that A LOT
hope this was to any help and thank you so much!! <33

@midnightcityx0x0 I'm not reblogging that fuckmassive post AGAIN but this got too long for a reply so. On its own post now
Anyway i actually have so much trouble thinking of anything for gustavo ever lmao. Everything i have for him I've adopted from other people; rem [brickattack] as mentioned on the big post, and @synthlet/softersynths for a lot of other things. [and a couple others too but iirc synths was the one who started those ppl on it as well gfjdjds] which is to say, you'd probably get better/more interesting answers from those guys :p but yeah, fp and gus are pretty close. It's the general exposure/familiarity, the fact that fp is just a happy/pleasant and easy-to-like dude personality-wise, and for gus specifically there's also a level of "he shares a lot of traits with peppino, without peppino's Baggage™"
that last point is very very interesting but i dont know if i'd Actually get to doing a lot with it bc i typically make fake pep His Own Guy, with his similarities to peppino being almost sort of coincidental. i really really really like coming at peppino and fake pep from the "equals and opposites" angle, which like, that Can still apply for that last bit abt gus, but it's not something i've put a lot of thought into. it's also just fuckin hard to articulate outside of just showing it lmao. [i mentioned like, predator/prey animal nervousness + their reactions to fear vs aggression on the other post but to pull one for here: fake pep still has his own brand of Baggage to deal with too--different stuff than peppino's--but fp is way more open about it when it comes up as opposed to peppino having 50 fuckin walls about everything.
besides that, i also see a lot of general banter about gus being a very Nature Guy™ who likes to find beauty in all the weird fucked up shit nature does [especially in a world as cartoony as theirs], which i enjoy a lot bc girl same. fp may be the farthest thing from natural, but i certainly think there is a lot of beauty to be found in his fucked-up-ness. and i'm sure gustavo sees it too.
and then a fun one i've come into pretty recently for them is that they both care abt peppino a lot, but peppino is very bad at...being cared for. so because you can rarely approach pep directly about anything if it involves vulnerability [again: 50 fuckin walls], and because they both know him very well in different ways and can get through to him about different things, they end up working together a lot in sort of a conspiratory way. plotting scheming etc. 'have you noticed anything wrong lately + how are we going to help this guy out today', that sort of thing. the idea there can go a lot of ways but i'm partial to them using like goofy cartoon antics to set him up for something that'll be beneficial to him. [also brick is in on it too technically but brick is a rat and therefore only sapient when it's funny.] peppino rarely realizes what theyre doing until it's too late. get loved idiot
TANGENTIAL. DONT even get me started on the angst oh my god. you. i am pointing at you you made me think about this. i am not usually one who likes doing angst or making things excessively bad for the hell of it but. a bitch may be considering. under cut bc its unrelated to gustavo stuff but this is as good an excuse as any to share. [+ also extra thoughts on it bc of COURSE]
Tumblr media
so i said that at the end there but then a few hours later i found myself toying around with a script and getting a good way to set it up.... im hoping i hit a roadblock on it and drop it because if i DO end up getting it all the way written i will definitely end up drawing it at some point and that would be uh... a big undertaking. it would also be one of the last ones i do bc there's other stuff i still want to build on, so IF, i cannot stress enough IF i go to make it a thing for real, it won't be this year.
for the bits i have so far though it's interesting how much it's shaping up to be like. a showcase of just how well peppino knows fp. which is surprisingly well? even better than gus, despite gus' being WAY more emotionally perceptive. peppino doesn't engage with fp more than necessary and rarely acts interested in his business, but i do think he spends a lot of time just... observing him. if only because pep is neurotic and anxious and fp is weird and freaky so it is a constant thing of "ok what the hell is this. is this something i need to be worried about?" whenever fp is doing shit, and the answer is always ''no'', but it's the sort of instinct that never leaves you yknow. so he's just very familiar with all fp's mannerisms and reactions and whatnot, even if he doesn't really use that knowledge much.......except when things go south. he's a lot more perceptive of fp acting 'wrong' or 'off' compared to gus, who would just be seeing it on a more normal 'aw he looked upset' kind of level.
i talk a lot abt fp's nervousness but the other negative thing that's just as strong with him is frustration. it doesn't usually get to him too bad, and he doesn't really show it around people outside of the occasional eyeroll; but it's stuff like not being able to communicate properly with anyone and getting constantly [negatively] misinterpreted; knowing he's Kinda Shite at his "purpose" [i.e. being 'better peppino' or whatever] and not being able to do anything about it [i don't think he cares about that much any more but i imagine it's still gotta be a bit annoying to remember]; not getting closure for like Anything that happened at the tower, etc... and while i DON'T think this would be the kind of thing to make him go berserk [i still don't really have any idea or framing for that lol; the script starts off a couple weeks in the aftermath and i pointedly don't do flashbacks], it's definitely the kind of thing that would get exacerbated by isolation. the kind of thing that's easy to focus on and spiral about without anyone to ground him; the kind of thing that could keep him from thinking clearly and he might just need to Take It Out on something after awhile.
peppino remains a terrible mediator but he is wildly resilient and tenacious, and if you need a guy to slap some sense into you... i mean he can very literally do that, and do it better than just about anyone.
