Do you have any tips for drawing rounder/fuller faces? I'm having trouble since they aren't as visibly structured in the same way say Spock and Bone's faces are. My little guys just look so visibly empty but they're just cherubs 😭
i totally get where you're coming from, i always approach drawing from a very structured point of view – the structure is still there with rounder faces, but its more about focusing on how the muscles move, how the face folds with different motions/expressions, and where/how fat deposits. still important thoughts when you're drawing faces like spock's and bones's but when the cheekbones or jaw are less sharp it becomes pretty important when defining the face. thats the thought process for me at least lmao heres a quick kirk n scotty for reference
Tumblr media
of course drawing from life, drawing from references, etc is always gonna help and i very much suggest it. the more you draw them the more it makes sense

How do I draw drones, part one of...?
Tumblr media
The image came out too big, so I had to split it into 3 parts

Click on the image to view the inscriptions/drawings and to make the quality of the drawing better
I hope I was able to explain normally how I draw their heads, as it was really difficult for me to show everything clearly :'>

I didn’t do a daily drawing thing for October, so here’s a tutorial on how I draw (Miyamoto) Usagi:
Tumblr media
Find good references. Any style you like! I recommend checking out variant covers, TMNT (Usagi is also featured in the 2012 art book and the Shredder’s Revenge DLC), and even some other amazing artists on here like @bluepeachstudios, @scouting4love, and @annaliearts! The key here is not to copy, but to study how different artists draw the same things differently. With that, you can learn what you’d like your way to look like! The examples above are from Stan Sakai, TMNT 2003, and Jared Cullum.
Here is my example:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like 2003 Usagi’s boxy shape, but I wanted to preserve Stan’s flow, and I love Jared’s way of keeping Usagi looking light on his feet yet grounded in reality. My best advice from this point foreword is wing it.

for a while since i got into transformers 3 years ago and i loved the franchies instiantly even since i was a kid especially the designs of transformers and Seeing fan arts and fan Designs and fans make thire own continuity made me me want to start learning to draw when im ready but i don't know how to draw cybertronians so do you have any tips and advices for someone who want to learn to draw transformers characters both Traditional & digital art?
Biggest advice I can give is: "Break a character apart into simple components!"
Drawing bots is honestly not that difficult, I find it much easier than people because you can more easily break a character apart into simplified blocks.
When it comes to designing characters it can take a few times to get one you're happy with so doing lots of basic sketches can help. References are always useful too! Every artist uses references.
Here's how I do it (In this case I'm doing an alt design for tfe Nightshade):
(It's not a definitive guide as you kinda have to figure out what works best for you both in terms of technique and art style. I'm aware my art style is definitely not for everyone, as it veers more on the cartoony side. I've had comments about how my faces all look effed up etc XD)
Initial sketch
Tumblr media
Break a bot down into basic shapes, circles and sausage shapes for more rounded characters and boxes for squarer ones. I normally start with the head and draw the rest of the body down from it (torso and arms then legs then any back kibble that might be visible) Think of it like the protoform beneath the armour.
To help with figuring out a pose I'll often use my toys. It can help you visualise where their arms and legs etc go along with whether part of a bot is actually visible from a certain angle. For example in this case:
Tumblr media
(Yes that's my cat chilling in the background)
This can help you to figure out if a certain design can pull a given pose, for example would a bot with kibble on their hips or arms be able to move their legs or arms a certain way. I used POTP Elita one as a reference for my SG Megatron a lot for example as they've got very similar builds. But this is not essential.
(There are mannequin apps on mobiles etc. you can use to help with pose references too, and image searches are always useful for references.)
For more dynamic poses it helps to think about how the character is moving, so add a curve to the torso/spine to add to any implied motion etc.
Details
Tumblr media
Once I'm happy with the basic shape and pose I typically add the armour over the top. Again the head is usually the first bit I do. You can see I got a bit lazy with their left hand and just did a scribble here XD
Inking
Tumblr media
Normally when inking I do the edges of each armour piece first then add any details on afterwards in a finer pen. Generally I'll do one body part at the time eg. fully ink the arm before doing the head etc. Its best to make sure you do parts that are in front first!
Here's the finished picture:
Though it'll need some digital cleaning up at another time.

As for digital art...
I can't really give much advice on starting a drawing digitally as I never quite got the hang of it (colouring and corrections I do digitally but all my line art is traditional), I need the feedback of a pen in my hand and pressure on the paper to get it right.
These days the Hardware I mainly use is a refurbished huion art tablet (it was about £120 when I bought it) that's probably the cheapest your going to find a graphics tablet with a screen. BUT it's really not essential to get one especially if you're just starting out. Basic graphic tablets without a screen (just a pen and a pad) are much cheaper or you can use a mouse. I used a mouse for ages when I was first starting out.
In terms of software, for colouring and edits on the PC I use GIMP (I've been using it since like 2009 so I'm not really going to change any time soon!). It's freeware software and can do a lot of stuff, but it's user interface isn't the most user friendly especially if you're not familiar with graphics software but there are plenty of tutorials available for it. I'll try to remember to make a post showing how I use that another time :) as I'm not at my computer at the moment.
There are plenty of alternative image manipulation/graphics software to use as well, some free, some free but with ads, and some paid for (either one off payment or subscription). It's best to see what other artists have to say about them though as I've never really used them!

aaaah- i love the way you make your art, the texture lighting poses basically just everything! may i ask what you use/do to draw-? (brushes (specifically the one from the Pearl and Marina with gaming consoles you made in like, 2018), program, etc.) sorry for the very specific and long ask 😭
thank you so much for the comment!! and for checking out my art even my old stuff. If I understand correctly this is about the lineless style. I was inspired by Amelicart, but don't draw that way anymore because my results are inconsistent; I can't think in colors. Anyways, here are examples. I use Sai 2. For lineless, I use a flat pencil for blocking in color and flat marker for shading. Each color is on its own layer. The texture is custom based on a photo I took of stucco. Nowadays, i use the default circle pencil with the default paper texture. I want to focus more on drawing and less on brushes/ layer management.

Poor jaune, every time he gets some closure the wounds are opening up. But that's beside the point: When did he learn he was adopted and did it play on him wanting to become a huntsman? Did his family try to help him more? It doesn't change much except maybe a year of training more than what he had would already get him a long way.
He learned he was adopted when he was about four or five, they didn’t want to put it off any longer than that
His family make it clear every day that they love him and that he’s their son, regardless of blood relation. Genetics only get you so far, as far as his family is concerned he’s an Arc in all ways that matter
It didn’t affect him wanting to be a huntsman that much. It did a little, because he wants to prevent what happened to him (parents dead and orphaned) happening to other kids. He also might’ve wanted more than usual to become a huntsman as a way to prove that he’s really an Arc, but only subconsciously
Papa/Mama Arc don’t train him any extra, although he asks often once he’s old enough. They don’t want him to become a Huntsman because their son has already lost so much, lost people he doesn’t even remember because of the Grimm they don’t want him to have to go through that again

How I draw an illustration step by step.
Tumblr media
1. First of all, I start with a sketch. This is already a “finishing” sketch, so before that there was a couple more with construction.
Tumblr media
2. When I make a line, I try to make it complex.
Tumblr media
3. I'm drawing a rough background. I chose nature, which makes sense given where the character is. I paint the background entirely myself; and for some objects like the forest in the background I use the lasso tool; I don’t go into detail so as not to overload the background with unnecessary details.
Tumblr media
4. I fill the character with primary colors. Usually I work in B&W first, but not this time.
Tumblr media
5. I bring the work to the final stage: shadows, painting, rendering. I also add textures and noise.
Tumblr media
Thanks for watching. I don’t teach anyone, because I study myself. This is not a tutorial, but just how I draw.
If you want, you can also look at my telegram:

PPPPLLLEEEAAASEEEE
SURE WHY NOT! first, we'll get to my art tips, my advice is that, learning from the other cool artist youtubers like SamDoesArt, Marc Brunet for his perspective and art school stuff second, i think using pinterest for me is hella good, but you might get lost, tracing the references is okay, as long as you dont actually fully trace it and just, SLAP your character in there how about you learn how to actually draw that pose by drawing simplified shapes instead? better! ( note : i don't really know bout my techniques, i just do random stuff around my work ) ANYWAYS, HERE IS THE STEP BY STEP, OF HOW I DRAW! PART I
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LINEART for my lineart, you may see some blur, n halftones, its my favorite thing to do when im finishin' my work because it makes it cooler 😎

Hi! In your Moon(s) artwork, I noticed there's some kind of circleish overlay on the image? Is this a filter or a low opacity image of some sorts? /nf
Tumblr media
OH? The lil tiny dots?
Those aren’t from a stock image or a filter. I used a halftone layer. I’ll show you how this works, it’s pretty easy with any app that’s allows halftones to be created (I think)(I use procreate so I don’t have full knowledge so take that w a grain of salt)
Tumblr media
This is what the halftone layer looks on the artwork. Almost any bending mode can work with the halftone, but used Luminosity to create that washed down look.
Now to the steps:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So let’s say this circle is your finished piece. This is where the normal layer comes in. On a different layer add any color of your choice to your whole entire canvas (I suggest using lighter colors as the halftones will show better but it also depends on the piece’s setting)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again this is on procreate. I don’t know how it looks on other drawing apps but if anything it shouldn’t be too different.
Select the halftone option and determine how big you want the dots to be. I suggest that they are not too small if you want them to be kinda seen and not too big.
After that your canvas should look like the image on the right or at least similar.
Tumblr media
Lastly, lower the opacity between 40-10% depending how visible you want them to be, and choose a blending mode that works for you.
I will still recommend the following modes:
Multiple
Darken
Normal
Color dodge
Overlay
Soft light
Pin light
Luminosity
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are also three different halftone options:
Full color, screen print, and newspaper
Full color keeps the original colors of your piece and makes things a little bit brighter
Screen print makes the dots darker and the background brighter
Newspaper has organized dots and turns your piece black and white
That’s all I think! You could probably achieve this with a stock image of halftones as well but it does contain some more steps. But that’s how I do it at least. If there are anymore art questions do ask, I love ask like these\(^ヮ^)/
Hope this helps.
