How about DVD commentary on some hurt/comfort bleeding into angst from Ripples in the long, long stream? This bit, in particular:

“Is that better?” came the elf’s voice, as though from a great distance through the rushing of blood in Gimli’s ears.  “Do you need” – Gimli took a shaky breath, trembling with relief.  “Yes,” he said, letting the leather fall from between his teeth.  Gingerly he lifted his arm and rotated it in a slow, careful circle – the pain was not entirely gone, but so much reduced from what it was that he felt almost drunk with it.  “Thank you.” “Of course.”  Legolas was rummaging in their pack now, searching for the spare roll of bandages they had taken to carrying with them.  “Here.”  Gimli sat passive, his frustration drained away with the pain, and allowed Legolas to wrap his arm and secure it carefully to his body.  “We will get you to a healer as soon as we return.  I think any deeper exploration here had best be postponed for now.” “Mmm.”  Gimli closed his eyes as Legolas swept a hand over his forehead, all his irritation fled at the elf’s gentle touch.  “I trust you.” “That is because you have singularly poor judgment.”  Legolas laughed, but his voice was tight.  “You are bone white, love.” “Well, nothing can be done for that until we return to Ithilien.”  Gimli did not open his eyes, but he smiled at the sound of his husband’s laugh.  “The sun will cure me soon enough, but summer is a ways off yet.” “Faultlessly spoken, and yet entirely wrong.”  Legolas sighed, but his lips pressed against Gimli’s hairline and his hand was still cool against Gimli’s sweaty brow.  “As always.”  Without looking, Gimli could feel Legolas moving around him to sit beside him on the boulder.  “We will just sit here until you recover your strength, then, and then we will turn towards home.” His voice was obstinate, as though preparing for an argument – but in truth Gimli would not complain at cutting their expedition short.  In truth, he still felt a bit shaky; his body did not seem to recover from shocks like this as quickly as it had when he was younger.  I am too old for this, he would have jested if it were another of his dwarven companions at his side now – and the words were hovering at the tip of his tongue before he remembered who sat beside him and clamped his lips around them.

Ooh ooh ooh thank you so much! This is the first time anyone has ever sent me an ask for this and I so appreciate it hehehe.

Okay, so as the DVD starts to roll, I do the overall commentary on the episode, which was that I was in the mood for a very specific sweet spot of hurt/comfort: I wanted it to be injury, requiring some kind of improvised solution, kind of random, but not so serious that it would lead to Big Angsty Feels. I settled on "dislocated shoulder," which was partly inspired by a scene from Thundera Tiger's "While the Ring went south" in which Gimli dislocates a shoulder while the two of them are trapped together. The difference is that in that fic they are enemies at each other's throats, and in mine they are, uh, married, haha.

Gingerly he lifted his arm and rotated it in a slow, careful circle – the pain was not entirely gone, but so much reduced from what it was that he felt almost drunk with it. - I had definitely read descriptions of dislocated shoulders before, but I did do some very basic research on the motions required to re-set a dislocated shoulder and how it feels afterwards.

“We will get you to a healer as soon as we return. I think any deeper exploration here had best be postponed for now.” My biggest biggest challenge in short fics like this is feeling like I have to do a huge setup for everything, and then realizing that I don't need to write the entire backstory of how they got where they are. I think (though it's been awhile), I was imagining that Gimli had dragged Legolas out to do some exploring in part of Aglarond that they hadn't really been working on much, or some other cave system, and is kind of at the point where he shouldn't be doing this anymore but isn't ready to admit it. Hence the "deeper exploration" bit.

Gimli closed his eyes as Legolas swept a hand over his forehead, all his irritation fled at the elf’s gentle touch. I just love when they touch each other gently! I just love it. The hand over the forehead, brushing back hair, soothing - You know. The inherent eroticism of a forehead.

Legolas laughed, but his voice was tight. Just - my favorite thing about writing Gimli physical h/c is that I get a side of Legolas angst, which I think anyone who has read ANY of my L/G stuff knows is my favorite thing in the world.

In truth, he still felt a bit shaky; his body did not seem to recover from shocks like this as quickly as it had when he was younger.  I am too old for this, he would have jested if it were another of his dwarven companions at his side now – and the words were hovering at the tip of his tongue before he remembered who sat beside him and clamped his lips around them.

And this last bit is one of those things I love most about writing fics like this - so often I start out with a scene I just want to play around with, and then I accidentally stumble into the real truth of it after several hundred words. Initially all I wanted was a little bit of h/c, and it wasn't until I got to this point that I realized what the story was really about - Gimli slowing down, not quite ready to admit it to himself, but forced to do so in a way that neither he nor Legolas can deny - one they can both feel, but aren't quite ready to say aloud to each other.

One of the time periods in their lives that I'm interested in is how their lives must have changed once Gimli really did start to slow down, once the challenge of their situation became a little too much for him, and how they must have navigated that. It's something I want to explore at some point, but haven't figured out how exactly to do it - so little peeks like this might have to do for now.

Road To The Kingdom - Prelude and Contagion Comics

This post will focus on two short comics that were published around the first reboot film, Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes.

The first is a prelude comic with a story that the writers (Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver) and director (Rupert Wyatt) always had in their minds for the film but had to be cut for time (they mention this in the DVD commentary and in interviews). Knowing how passionate they were about this piece of backstory for Caesar's origin, I'm very glad it was given life in this comic. It expands on the capture of Caesar's mother and her time in the GEN-SYS labs, scenes that are featured briefly in the opening of the film. 

Director Wyatt and the writers have all said they thought it was important to show this backstory of Caesar's parents to demonstrate that, even prior to the drug that enhanced him as an unborn baby, his parents were above average apes. The comic shows a group of poachers following a troop of chimps, intent on capturing them to sell to laboratories for testing. Alpha, Caesar's father, is more intelligent than a regular chimpanzee, demonstrated in how he outsmarts the humans to keep his apes safe. He even lures them into a trap in order to kill several of them. 

Likewise Caesar's mother, Bright Eyes... who is named Bright Eyes in the comic for her rare blue eyes which doesn't make sense since she was named that in the lab for the changed eyes Will's drug gives her and also she doesn't even have blue eyes in the opening scene of the movie but that's just bad continuity, I guess... Anyway, Bright Eyes is shown to be exceedingly compassionate to her troop, ensuring no one gets left behind as they flee the poachers and fiercely defending Alpha. Though it is very brief, it is nice to see the united front of Alpha and Bright Eyes that make up Caesar. Human drugs may have given him true intelligence, but Caesar's determination, loyalty, and compassion all came from his parents.

The rest of the comic arc shows Bright Eyes' time in the lab prior to giving birth. We see her intelligence grow to the point that she is able to escape from the lab on her own and return when she realizes she's far from her jungle home. There's a story of another lab ape named Burke who gets smart but decides to hide it, so he's retired to a sanctuary as a failed experiment and starts to plan his own escape. It's interesting to see the progression of the drug and its effect on the apes but the best part is getting to know Bright Eyes a bit better than her brief time in the film. 

Shifting to Contagion, it is even shorter than the prelude comic as it was a one-shot set between Rise and Dawn. The focus of the comic is Ellie, the human in Dawn who is the love interest of Malcolm and the nurse who heals Cornelia. Her backstory is briefly mentioned in the movie but it is fleshed out here. We're shown the death of her daughter, Sarah, during the Simian Flu outbreak and her time with the CDC trying to find a vaccine. She ends up escaping the destruction of her lab with the help of a test chimp and the two go their separate ways (which makes me think an interesting story in this universe would be a human and an intelligent ape who actually successfully survive together but I guess that's what fanfics are for). Though very fast paced, that is the nature of a short one-shot comic. It does probably set the feeling of losing your daughter as the world falls apart around you, all happening in a very quick blur. Her time spent with the test apes and her rescue by the chimp Betty show her gentle nature that will have her seeking peace with Caesar's apes in the coming film. 

Though these comics are short compared to the longer arcs that will be featured later, I like these stories for their background on two female characters, Bright Eyes and Ellie. While the original films had Zira as a main lead character, the female characters in the reboot series definitely suffer from being primarily love interests to the lead characters and not having much to do in the films. So it is nice to let Ellie and Bright Eyes have comic book expansions of their characters. Both of these stories have been hard to find in the past, as the prelude was online promotion for Rise that seems to be gone from the Net and Contagion was a San Diego Comic Con 2014 exclusive. However, they can now be found in the Planet of the Apes comic omnibus entitled After The Fall.

Ron Ely as Tarzan, and his chimp co-star Cheeta. Though they look like best friends, Ely suffered several bites from the little guy during the course of their two years working together.

For kids in the mid-to-late 1960s, Ron Ely WAS Tarzan.

Ely was the star of the 57-episode Tarzan TV series that ran two seasons, from 1966 to 1968, and then in near continual syndication for several years afterward.

The television series was executive produced by Sy Weintraub, who had been producing the Tarzan films since 1958. Weintraub was responsible for replacing the monosyllabic persona of Tarzan, made popular by the Johnny Weissmuller films of the 1930s and40s, with the educated, well-spoken character from Edgar Rice Burroughs' novels. True Trazan fans were delighted with this move, and I'm sure Burroughs himself would have been as well had he lived to see it (he died in 1950).

Weintraub also filmed his Tarzan movies on location, as opposed to in a studio with stock jungle footage. This made for some spectacular scenes, but it was rough on both the crew and his Tarzan actors: Gordon Scott, Jock Mahoney, and Mike Henry.

When he decided to make the Tarzan television series, Weintraub wanted Henry to continue in the role. However, Henry had made 3 Tarzan films back-to-back in 1965 and was physically exhausted. Thus the TV role eventually was awarded to Ely.

Like the Mike Henry films, the TV series was filmed in Brazil (first four episodes) and Mexico (the remainder of the series). This explains why the scenery, while lush and exotic, sometimes doesn't quite gel with images we'd seen of the African wilderness. It also explains why many of the extras appeared Latin as opposed to African.

Ely insisted on doing his own stunts for the series, a decision later on he would come to regret. He suffered more than two dozen serious injuries, which included two broken shoulders, lion bites, and several bites from his co-star, Cheeta the chimp. Allan Sherman, in an issue of the Tarzan comic book when it was published by DC, wrote an article and chart detailing all the injuries Ely incurred in the two years of production. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find the article to include here.

The one thing Ely could not do: the famous Tarzan yell. The production ended up using a recording of Johnny Weissmuller's version of the yell.

Ely's other co-star in the series was Jai, an orphaned boy (played by Manuel Padilla, Jr). Jai took the place of Boy, Tarzan's son from the Weissmuller films, and gave the ape man someone to protect and/or rescue every episode.

As in Weintraub's films, the character of Jane was not present. Weintraub preferred a Tarzan who was a lone adventurer. The TV Tarzan was not a globetrotter like his film counterpart; his adventures were limited to a fictional African country.

The Tarzan series had several high profile guest stars including, believe it or not, Diana Ross and The Supremes: Cindy Birdsong, Mary Wilson, and Diana Ross as a trio of nuns.

The series got off to an uneven start, as the location shooting took longer than anticipated. Early episodes show signs of hasty, almost haphazard editing as they were assembled at a breakneck speed to meet NBC network's broadcasting schedule. Luckily, the production eventually found its footing, and things smoothed out quickly.

For a brief time Tarzan's TV adventures took over the cover spot on the Tarzan of the Apes comic book.

Warners Brothers has released the series on DVD back in 2012 and 2013. To my knowledge (which, admittedly, is faulty) it is not currently streaming or available on any cable channels.

I was wondering if you know some moments were Jungkook actually throws up, or at least, talks about this. I have seen some moments but those aren't actually about him. Our bunny is strong so I didn't really found any moments about him being the one who's sick or throws up. Thank you in advanage<3

hii!! please correct me if i'm wrong because my memory might not be accurate but during this 5 almost 6 years being an ARMY, there's only one time that he visibly looked sick and yeah i remember seeing the clips that circulates on the TL and get worried .. it was during Seoul Music Awards 2019, where he used the yellow black stripped clothes .. i remembered he looked like he almost fainted like 3 times, especially after the perfomance i think he even need to sit down first and get helped idk from the members or the staff to get back on his feet. And maybe also during wings tour? where he barely can catch his breath and looked like almost fainting backstage the one that they showed the clip on burn the stage .. anddd there's also one like that during sys or lys tour .. i dont remember which stops was that (i think it was singapore .. or japan? i only remember that vmin has cotton candy pink and blue hair) that jungkook looked sick at the backstage likee looked kinda more exhausted than usual and jimin was worried (they showed it on the dvd and the caption was "Jungkook is not feeling well")

and yeah .. other than that one i think Jungkook only ever get injured, in 2018/2019 during that lys sys tour era.

Moments TK Have Been Visibly Into EO

This post is truly exactly what it says on the tin lol. I'm sitting here trying to find something clever to say about it, but the truth is I just thought it would be fun to compile a relatively brief list of moments that come to mind when I think about how visibly into each other Taehyung and Jungkook are.

It's a pretty short list in comparison to all the moments that I could include, but that just means more moments for additional parts in the future if people like this one!

I'll make little comments about what I take away from these moments, but for the most part, I really feel like they speak for themselves.

I won't lie, mentally and emotionally I'm still here, watching the Vminhopekook live from Las Vegas and calculating how long it will be before Taehyung literally eats Jungkook alive on camera. I won't lie, I have no clue how anyone doesn't see this as suspicious.

I get what other people are seeing in this live, but I don't know how they're not seeing this lol. From the moment Jungkook arrived in the room, Taehyung looked like he was going to take a bite out of him any second.

Similarly, in the LA live from the end of last year, Jungkook could not keep his eyes off Taehyung or his thighs. I mean, we all know this one, I'm sure, because honestly it's just iconic.

The way Jungkook's eyes kept drifting back to Taehyung, the way he stared no matter what else was going on, how he went to slap Tae's thigh at one point and only stopped because Taehyung reached for his hand at the same time. He was pretty obvious in this one ngl, and even if he wasn't, Jimin certainly gave them away.

I'm still not over the rehearsal from Busan where Jungkook kept pulling down Taehyung's sweater. Even if you can write off Jungkook unbuttoning it or tugging the sleeve down Tae's shoulder as just standard teasing, I don't really see how Taehyung moving to stand directly in front of Jungkook to rearrange the whole sweater can just be brushed off lol, especially considering how much they were laughing about it together.

I love this tiny interaction so much. This clip zooms in but if you happen to come across the full-body version at some point, you can see really clearly how Jungkook is heading straight forward, but then when Taehyung flirts with him a little bit, the direction of his feet completely changes as he starts to walk straight for Tae instead, like he doesn't even realize he's doing it. And Joon's reaction lol. Yeah, this is another one I can't figure out how to think around.

Honestly I was looking for a clip of a specific moment of Taehyung gazing at Jungkook with those bedroom eyes (from the 2019 to 2020 New Year's live) but I couldn't find a good version of just that, and tbh he does it a lot, so here's a little compilation for you.

There are several more moments where Jungkook is just blatantly checking Taehyung out, with full-body stare-downs, but here are a couple for your viewing pleasure.

This moment from the SYS The Final DVD where Jungkook was watching Taehyung practice is, I think, a really good example both of a moment where Jungkook was really into Tae, but also just the way he's so sweet for Tae all the time. He's, like, enraptured here, literally slack-jawed and staring.

I love the moment from Hobi's listening party where Jungkook was dancing and Taehyung sort of checked him out and danced up to him. I really feel like at this point, Taehyung doesn't even try to hide how hot he thinks Jungkook is, and good for them.
