Listening links and my thoughts on this QC below the cut:
Ego was one of the first solo BTS songs that I remember falling in love with. I think it perfectly encapsulates Hobi's ability to take a concept and translate it musically. It's such a fun listen but also informs in an interesting way. It's also my favorite of all of J-Hope's solo songs.
Boy Meets Evil was one of the first videos that actually helped me start to appreciate dance in pop culture. Dance was definitely not a huge draw for me at the start of my BTS journey and this video stands out in my memory.
More was such an interesting journey of song in itself. We were all so curious how the solo releases would be handled logistically as well as musically. Absolutely loved the rock elements and seeing Hobi get to transfer his skills outside of the typical soundscape of BTS.
Hobi chose "Her" ("it's essentially a love song") and "Ego"... and I love him.
Because I am a hot mess of feelings this weekend I feel the need to also point out that THIS HOBI IS GLORIOUS even though he just posted these this week and they have nothing to do with the above video at all:
ego is not what we think it is. ego is not a bad personality. ego is not a complete personality. ego is that element of ourselves which lets us know who we are. while our persona talks about which version of us we want others to see, ego talks about the us who either only we know or no one at all does.
while persona is who we want to be, who want to be perceived as, ego is the sense of self, being aware of at least the minimal amount of ourselves. ego is the key of self protection. our ego knows who and what can hurt us, pain us and therefore acts like a defense.
just like shadow is not about everything being dark, wrong and sinful, ego is not all about being narcissistic and prideful.
cannot stop giggling over b*s going on hiatus...... hope it's a one direction hiatus and they all just permanently go solo it'll be a net win for society
