And for the finale of Eight Drarry Nights 2023, I am honored to write this for @xx-thedarklord-xx. Sam, I hope you know by now just how much I love your work. Apologies that this is so late. It's been a rough week (shoutout to my discord friends for the sweet support! You guys are amazing). But I wanted to give this proper time, which I haven't had until now. So, without further ado, here we go! And, of course, Happy (belated, now) Hanukkah.

Featuring: a secret relationship, possessive!Harry, and a Draco who is determined to drive Harry crazy—in the best way—until he snaps.

At this point, I'm starting to think the pint in your hand is just for show. You've hardly touched it. I'd wager you're entirely sober.

You come to pub nights with our colleagues, every other Friday, yet you hardly drink anymore. Would you be surprised that I've noticed? When have I not noticed you, Potter?

I've seen you watching me. You're not being very subtle; if you want to keep this a secret, you're going to have to tear your eyes away from my arse. Not that I want you to, mind you. I always want your eyes on me.

Have you caught on to my game yet? You're an ex-Auror. Use your talents of deduction. I flit and flirt my way through the pub, talking to everyone but you, but it's always your bed I come back to, isn't it? Meanwhile, you stew and scowl and glare at me from the corner of the pub as if you don't know the foregone conclusion.

Silly Potter. There's an easy way to get me to end this; a quick, surefire solution to this self-inflicted torture. You'd just have to march over here with that big, tough Chosen One bravado, scoop me into your arms, and kiss me the way you usually do when no one's around. No one else would dare touch me again, and we'd finally be free from sneaking around. Win-win.

But you're trying to be a gentleman. You're trying to "give me my space" and let me bring our relationship out of the proverbial closet when I'm ready. It's admirable; very touchy-feely-sweet-Gryffindor of you.

But I've had enough. I'm ready for more. I'm sure you'd say that I could simply tell you. But where's the fun in that? It's much more entertaining for me to see you get all worked up, jaw clenching with every smirk I throw your way as I talk and laugh and flirt with other men.

Tonight, though, I think you've finally realized. Or, at least, you're going to lose it. I'm talking to—what did he say his name was? Greg? Thomas? I'm not sure, but it won't matter in a moment. You're gripping that pint like it's personally offended you; I'm almost afraid it's going to shatter in your hand.

From the corner of my eye, I see you all but slam it on the table, the drink sloshing a bit over the rim. While the rest of the pub is too rowdy to notice, your tablemates startle and look at you with alarm. But you're glaring at me. I just deepen my smirk and raise my eyebrow at you.

You rise from your seat, letting your chair fall over behind you, and stride purposefully over to me.

Good.

That's it.

You might be thinking, Tee, in your 2023 AO3 wrap up post, you said you wrote a ridiculous amount of HP fic this year - but what about reading? Well, thanks for asking, imaginary audience – as a matter of fact, I did indeed read a lot of Drarry fics this year. A fucking horrendous number of Drarry fics, in fact.

Below the cut are some of my favourites that were published in 2023, arranged by word count.

But first, a note: there is truly an overwhelming amount of talent in this fandom and this list only scratches the surface. These fics all gave me something that I was looking for and were my favourites for a number of different reasons. I hope you can find something new to love here (or reconnect with an old favourite), and that you enjoy these stories as much as I did!

Alrakis I [24M] attended a small boarding school in the UK. There was a boy in my year, a couple of months younger than me, and he became my nemesis after we developed an intense rivalry. My friend [25F] told me recently that our dynamic was "weird back then" and that "it’s even weirder" that I still think about him today. She argued that I talk about him all the time, but I believe the amount I talk about him is reasonable. AITA?

Never a man to squander an opportunity for revenge (and what would probably be a spectacular shag), Draco vows to make Potter his for the weekend.

Now all Draco has to do is convince him.

St. Mungo's Healer Draco Malfoy is used to being pushed to his limits when providing aide to the ailing, but when an unexpected encounter with an out of character Harry Potter throws his life out of balance one night, he is forced to ask himself how far he's willing to push his own levels of discomfort to be of aid to a man in need of help that only he can provide.

🪻 Recursion – Tessa Crowley (132k, E) 🪻

A process is recursive when it defines or contains itself; e.g., the Fibonacci sequence, which determines the next number as the sum of the previous two.

But not all recursive processes are mathematical. Recursion can happen in a temporal context when, for instance, the powerful magical force that is true love drags you back in time so it can create itself, endangering the fate of the Wizarding World—not to mention the very fabric of space and time—along the way.

Read for: Canon Retelling/Divergence, time travel, Slytherin Harry, a truly insane amount of physics/magical theory/intelligence. This fic was too smart for me in the best way. If you liked Chaos Theory read this – it’s even better!

🌸 Cut From the Sky – @mallstars (150k, E) 🌸

"I'm stuck in a time loop, reliving November 2nd. This is the 111th time I've lived through today."

Draco stilled. His moody eyes, the tension in his hands where he gripped onto his umbrella, the careful mask of blankness flickering over his face — everything about him was so difficult and so very dear to Harry.

"Ah," said Draco, "and?"

I'm so excited to welcome @phoebe-delia to the library! I've loved reading her work for a long time, and am always especially impressed by the fact that she answers so many prompts! My favorite of her series is Eight Drarry Nights at Hanukkah time every year, which are always warm and so full of love and light. I knew she'd pick a great fic, and I think it'll be a sweet and romantic start to your Valentines season. Thanks again to @phoebe-delia!

I want to start out by thanking the incredible @thedrarrylibrarian for the chance to participate in Happy Hour. You do phenomenal work, and I just really hope you know how valued you are. I fangirl every time we interact and I am incredibly honored to get to do this.

Now, on to the rec!

When our lovely Librarian asked me to do a guest rec for Happy Hour, this fic was the first to come to mind. I still gave it a lot of time and consideration, of course, but at the end of the day I kept coming back to this story.

plant me in your garden (and watch me grow) by @thehoneybeet. 5,505 words, Rated T, and make sure to check the tags to see if it’s right for you!

Malfoy walks across the grounds to the forbidden forest nearly every night, but falls asleep in class during the day. Harry can't get enough of him.

An eighth year fic.

Every fic of Honey’s that I’ve read makes me want to be a better writer, because their storytelling is so effortlessly rich. I always have at least one moment where I have to pause and look off into the distance so I can really appreciate a line and let it sink into my brain.

And this fic has quite a few of those moments for me. The descriptions here are so vivid; I felt like I was watching Drarry through a pensieve. I’m resisting the urge to quote dump here, because I think you should experience this writing for yourself in the way Honey intended it. It’s the kind of story that, in my humble opinion, can’t really be captured in a quote or two. It flows exactly as it needs to.

I adore how Honey characterizes both Draco and Harry. Draco has clearly changed after the war but has kept the same wit and fire that attracts Harry so much. And Harry is just trying to figure out how to exist in this post-war world without Voldemort after him, and it turns out Draco is a big part of his healing. It’s a joy to watch the two of them fall for and into each other.

I just looked back at the comments, because I remembered that I’d left one a while back when I first read it (which was, apparently, in September 2022? What even is time, omg). I’m going to quote from my past self, here, who called the writing “decadent,” and the story “fucking gorgeous,” “creative” and “special.” I told Honey that this fic would always have a special place in my heart. Clearly, my heart kept that promise.

I also told Honey at the time that the fic deserved a much longer, more intensive comment than I could articulate at the time. Turns out I needed over a year. This is as close as I think I’ll get to accurately expressing the way it makes me feel.

Plus, as a personal bonus, this fic happens to include some of my favorite tropes: eighth year, pining, and Harry’s never-ending obsession with Draco.

I hope you all enjoy this fic as much as I do (and that you remember to leave them kudos and a comment!) And Honey, thank you for writing something so wonderful that it stuck with me for over a year.

I hope you're all doing well and fine and I send lots of love especially for those who struggle in a way or another during the holidays. 💖

Personally I feel a bit indifferent about the holidays; not that many good memories of them, and I’m used to work my way through Christmas (I love the vibes at work on Christmas). This is the first Christmas in over 10 years I’m not with the meemaws and peepaws at work and I don’t know what am I supposed to doooo. Probably read some tooth-rotting holiday fluff laced with some festive smut while downing some glögi, so here we go. Some of these are from 25 days of harry and draco, run don’t walk to check out this year’s (and the previous!) advent fics. So cute, so good. Here's some of my favorites:

The best Christmas he ever had by @gnarf ❄️ 1,965 words

Christmas had never been less appealing to him than this year. That was until Arthur Weasley showed up at his door, dressed as Santa, inviting him to the Burrow.

I'm absolutely weak for the Christmas at the Burrow-trope, and this little story definitely hits all the right boxes. It's warm, adorable, cute, everything you need and more.

I strongly feel that a fic with some cute Teddy-content never misses. This fic starts in the fall and continues all the way to New Years Eve and has some disgustingly good fluff and domestic vibes. All in all an easy and cozy read for the holiday season.

This was such a fun little fic. The dynamics between Harry and the Slytherins were amazing, and the stocking fiasco was just too adorable. And there's just something about the holidays in Hogwarts for me personally. Very sweet and endearing.

This is a series of fics based on prompts given to me on Tumblr, one for each night of Hanukkah! The prompts aren't all and don't have to be related to Hanukkah and/or Judaism; some are and some aren't.

This is the perfect series to read at bedtime, having some fuzzy socks on, a warm blanket up to your ears and snow falling silently outside. Like said in the description, all of the little fics are not festive but I think the big picture gives all the holiday vibes I'm craving for.

Now this is not a traditional holiday fic per se, but a bittersweet, angsty, second chances story that takes place over Christmas in Rome. It has this wistful feel throughout and is right up my alley. I devoured this and it left me feeling all warm and fuzzy in the end. Also the gorgeous art really puts the whole thing together.

I felt actual physical pain reading this, watching the years go by and Christmases to pass. But it was a good pain, the kind I crave for especially at this time of year. Slowest of slow burns, endearing, touching and funny friends to lovers holiday excursion. Loved this.

How to Handle Hannukah by Blowfish_Diaries ❄️ 10,445 words

Harry and Draco have decided to cohabitate. And to throw a Hannukah party. Enter latkes, spreadsheets, and Pansy beating everyone at dreidel. This is a fluffy, domestic fic to celebrate the holiday season and add another chapter to the "How to Handle a Matzo Ball Soup Emergency" series.

This is a sequel to the amazing "How to Handle a Matzo Ball Soup Emergency" and one of my absolute favorites along with the first part. I highly recommend to read the first part, but I think this works as a standalone aswell. It's incredibly well-written with fluff to die for and some class a smut, everything you need for the holiday season, even though today the 15th of December I’m posting this is the last day of Hanukkah. A definite must-read along with the first part.

It just so happens that Draco works in his office as well, a holdover from Kingsley's tenure. Naturally, love is in the air.

Now hold up. Love Actually is one of my favorite movies and oh how I love this fic. Adorable and cute packed with holiday vibes.

Draco Malfoy has a Christmas choir competition to win, and Harry Potter has an orphanage that needs funding. When Luna Lovegood intervenes, they agree to help each other out: Harry will join the choir if Draco chooses to sponsor his charity. But agreeing to work together also means getting to know each other again - in new and unexpected ways. Ft. a chaotic festive choir, scheming friends, a healthy dose of mental health issues, one very irritating ex, and boys learning how to love and be loved.

I’m swooning over this fic. It has the perfect ratio of angst, fluff, hurt, comfort, smut and holiday vibes. It made me laugh, it made me cry. It's so incredibly lovely and definitely a must-read every holiday season.

My True Love Gave to Me (Six Jars of Chutney) by @goldentruth813 ❄️ 12,311 words

On his first post-divorce Christmas Eve without his children, Harry goes to Marks & Spencer hoping to find a bit of his past; what he finds instead is a future.

What got to me most in this fic was that little part in the beginning about Harry's trip to London as a kid with Petunia. It really punched me in the gut and got me tearing up. The whole story was sweet and Harry's thoughts and feelings were written out so beautifully.

I love this so much. Made me feel so safe and warm and festive, a certified holiday vibe. All the coziness you need this time of year in a pretty little package.

This is the epitome of a holiday fic. ALL the feels and more. I was grinning from ear to ear reading this. The flirting!!! Love love love.

Sup bitches im back

And ik its been a freaking long ass time since I've actually posted a fic but I've been dealing with alot of business and stress in my personal life and have had absolutely 0 motivation to write but I'm back and hopefully I won't be ghosting ya'll like that again lol

But anywho today I'm stepping a little out of my comfort zone today and writing some drarry (its actually one of my fav ships even though I've never writing for it), it's just a little drabble but hope you like

So yeah enjoy

They hadn't meant for Draco to stay the night in Harry's bunk but by the time Harry had checked his watch, Draco was already set on falling asleep in his arms. (And what kind of person was he to rouse such an adorable sight?)

Harry shifted quietly, rolling over to look at the boy laying next to him.

So he was stuck in his current predicament, and while Draco was the cutest thing while sleepy he was also extremely grumpy. But, at this rate they were going to be late for both breakfast and class.

He hesitantly shook Draco lightly, watching to see his reaction.

The blonde boy stirred slightly and then grumbled and shoved his face back into the pillow beneath him.

Harry sighed through his nose and shook him a little harder, even daring to murmur in Draco's ear to try and wake him.

"Draaaco.." Harry whispered next to the shell of his ear. "Time to get up, love."

"Piss off."

"Come one, it's nearly eight." Harry tugged at his arm.

"Go away, Potter."

Harry huffed and re-thought his course of action.

"If I cuddle with you for five more minutes will you get up?"

There was a long pause where he could practically hear Draco thinking.

"Fine." He mumbled and shifted so Harry could properly cuddle him.

Harry smiled and happily snuggled up with him, pressing a kiss to the top of his head. He nestled his head in the crook of his boyfriend's neck, kissing him again.

Harry almost lost track of time by falling asleep again (wasn't his fault that Draco was nice and warm and cozy alright?).

"Alright, five minutes are up." Harry smirked when Draco groaned.

"Noooo..."

"Yeeees." Harry grinned. "Come on, you've slept in enough. Time to get up." Harry poked hin persistently in the ribs a few times. Draco jerked away from him, rolling onto his stomach.

Harry smirked, an idea forming in his head.

"Uh oh... I may have found your weakness Draco." Harry wiggled his fingers into Draco's ribs, eliciting some muffled giggles from the boy beside him.

"H-harry, no!" Draco laughed. He pressed his arms down against his sides but it did nothing to deter his mischievous boyfriend.

Harry continued, dancing his fingers up and down his ribs, kneeding into the bones to hear Draco squeal and kick his feet against the mattress.

"I can do this all day if I have to." Harry said after a few minutes of tickling.

"Stohohop!!" Draco rolled over onto his back, grabbing Harry's hands.

Harry stopped, letting the boy catch his breath and admiring the bright pink blushing dusting his face.

"You ready to get up? Or do I need to convince you more?" Harry darted a hand out of Draco's grip and poked his belly.

"I'm up, I'm up!!" Draco said, jumping out of the bed.

Harry chuckled and grinned. It was so worth getting yelled at by McGonagall for being late and Draco being upset at him for losing house points from Slytherin, though, he could never stay that mad at him for long.

I Watched It Begin Again

@nv-md Ali I cannot begin to tell you how excited I was to get a prompt from you this year. You have been one of the biggest cheerleaders of this series for the last two years, and it's partly because of you that I'm doing it again. So thank you! So much!!

And, oh man, what a prompt!! I ADORE this song, and I'm honored to get to write this for you. I can't think of a more fitting person to receive the first gift, nor a more fitting prompt, as this series ~begins again.~

This is "Begin Again" by Taylor Swift.

"Potter, this is your last chance," Draco warns when he arrives at the cafe and sits in the empty chair at Potter's table. "If you confess now that asking me out was a joke or a bet, you may leave without being hexed."

The smile Potter'd had at seeing Draco's arrival dims. "Draco, this isn't a trick. I'm not trying to embarrass you," Potter says softly as if trying to calm a cornered animal. "This is real. I like you. And I think you like me, too. Let's just be two people on a date. Can we do that? You can reserve the right to hex me if you truly think this is some ill-intentioned plot." Harry's amused smirk should not be that attractive, but it makes Draco's stomach flip all the same.

Draco looks at Harry for a long moment and sees the sincerity he'd been hoping for. He relents and leans back in his chair, taking his wand from its holster and twirling it easily, his eyes narrowed. Potter's smirk widens, the wanker.

The chatter and sounds of the cafe soon fade to white noise. Draco's world narrows to Harry; the way his hands grasp the cup of coffee, the way he snorts if he laughs hard enough, the way he constantly fiddles with his hair and the ends of his clothes. Harry makes Draco feel giddier than he's been in years, truth be told.

"You drive me mad," is the truth Draco admits instead, later, when Potter kisses him for the first time underneath a street lamp.

"Good thing I'm mad for you," Harry murmurs; the back of Draco's head knocks against the metal pole, but the kiss Harry gives him makes him lightheaded.

They take the long walk back to Draco's flat, stopping to snog up against every lamp post they can find. Harry walks him to the door with what seems like great reluctance. "Here's my Floo," Harry whispers, tucking a small scrap of parchment into Draco's coat pocket. "I'll see you soon, Draco." He steps back and Apparates away with a pop.

Draco reaches for the parchment as soon as Harry's gone, unfolding it with shaking hands.

There's a Floo number and a short message. Draco, if you're reading this, it means our date's ended. But I know we're just beginning.

Draco pockets the parchment, brings his fingertips to his still-tingling lips, and smiles.

Harry can't count how many times he's woken up to the chill of marble-cool lips pressed against his skin or questing hands on his body, but he'll never tire of the feeling. Eight hundred and some years have unlearned him of his restiveness.

Coming to consciousness wrapped in Draco’s embrace always instils him with a sense of grace. And this morning it's all the more keen with the word ‘husband’ still playing on his lips—he spent half of yesterday trying it out; different intonations, in different contexts. And it’s all the more exquisite with ice-cold fingers tracing patterns over his chest and pinching at his stiff nipples. And it’s all the more pleasing with a wet mouth lapping at the sensitive skin of his neck.

What’s making Harry’s cock hard as a rock, though, is Draco’s smug voice, purring and teasing.

And it all comes back to Harry in a carnal rush of adrenaline.

The waiter at the tapas bar. Xavier. ‘Pronounced Sha-beer’, he told them, leaning in towards Draco, voice low.

Yes, it’s all flowing back in now: charming Xavier into giving them the good wine behind the counter; into coming back to their hotel, up the imposing stone staircase, into their bed; letting him have his way; watching the satisfied bob of his throat as he sucked Draco off. Harry is far better with names than he is with languages. She will also serve them well, he thinks, tonguing an incisor, though she may perhaps be a little more fresh and lively on the palate than the musky Xavier.

Harry’s cock is still very hard, and it doesn’t take much at all to wheedle his new husband into consummating their marriage in the stained sheets, Draco’s cold, solid length driving into him, face to face, their fangs bared for each other. @hprecfest day 10: fest fic

All these magnificent different fests are undoubtedly my downfall. I have the uttermost respect and all my love for the people hosting these fest and for the people participating in them. Especially @hprecfest - I've had such a blast coming up with these fics to rec and my tbr list has exploded because of all the spectacular stories recced. 💖💖💖💖

I decided to stick with some of this years fest entries. These are some of my favorite fests (i skipped the drarry-centric fests this time) and fics from them, and this became a bit longer than intented:

Feels Like Spring by @lumosatnight 🩵 5,033 words, harry/charlie/oliver, written for @hp-fruit-fest, @hp-poetry-fest and @wood-you-rather-challenge

Charlie Weasley felt like summer and smelled like watermelon. Harry Potter felt like winter and smelled like pomegranate. Together, they felt like spring and smelled like home.

Beyond beautiful. The parallels, the formatting, everything in this fic is just to die for. It's just as sickly sweet as the fruit featured in it laced with a hefty amount of some agonizing pain. Absolutely stunning.

Let Me Help You, Mr. Lupin by @goldenbi 🩵 2,941 words, james/lyall, written for @hprarepairfest

James nodded, his eyes lowering to Lyall’s neck and then back up. “Yeah, Mr. Lupin. I want to help you.” “How’s that?” Lyall couldn’t figure out how a young man like James Potter could help him grieve his wife. She’d been dying for years, he had known it was coming; he knew, and still it had caught him off guard. “I want to fuck you,” James said. Lyall spilled the whiskey across his lap and swore. He reached for his wand and cleaned himself up, placing the glass safely on one of Hope’s coasters. “Excuse me, I must have misheard—?” James’s expression was fond, “I want to fuck you. I want to lay you in bed, open you up, and fuck you so hard that you forget about everything other than my body. Then, you are going to sleep.”

Eight-year-old Harry and his friends plan a summertime heist.

🥹🥹🥹 the amount of tears I've shed for this 600-word fic is ridiculous. Harry is my favorite boy and deserves the world. This is such a cute little story, it's heartbreaking and heart-warming at the same time. I think about this fic at least a few times a week.

My place of refuge by plecotusauritus 🩵 19,468 words, sirius/james, written for @prongsfootfest

James Potter is a small town boy with good grades, tight knit group of friends and passion for football. Things change when a mysterious stranger seeks shelter at his father's church after running away from London.

Prongsfoot has my whole entire heart. Whole. Entire. Heart. This was a tragically cute fic. I'm a sucker for some religious themes in a story, and it's always interesting how the same faith has such different interpretations depending on one's background.

The Sun, Shining Above You by @oknowkiss 🩵 14,565 words, draco/harry/ron, written for @dronarryfest

Since joining up with the dragontamers, Draco counts his days in nights. Nights spent drinking in the commune mess, making poor choices he doesn't regret, for once. Nights he doesn't remember, and nights he wishes he could stop remembering. Then there's that night in Spain, caught in the circle of Ron's arms. A year of nights in Norway, caught in the heat of Harry's gaze. His first night at the Burrow, caught in between them both.

This story is a vibe with all capital letters. It's unbelievably delish, intimate (the hair cutting part.. i'm trembling), warm, steamy, beautiful, I'm obsessed. This fic ticks all the right boxes for me.

A Time, Dark and Divine by @moonflower-rose 🩵 17,023 words, draco/harry/ron, written for @dronarryfest

“Harry. Please. You know I wouldn’t ever… I wouldn’t do anything…” “You’re going to have to be quiet for me,” Harry whispers. “You don’t want to wake him up.” On a humid night in Portugal, Draco Malfoy opens a door that Ron had thought long closed.

Another one from dronarry fest because why the fuck not. The way I'm salivating over this. I absolutely love Ron in this fic, he's a slag and he knows it and he owns it. But there's always something more and the way this fic reveals his thoughts little by little is magnificent and a punch to the gut. The dynamics of the trio are immaculate. And the jealousy always slaps. I also love how seamlessly it follows through the amazing The Last Star Falling by @tackytigerfic which I hadn't read before but I'm glad I found it via this story.
