these are my AWESOME OCS The Winner (the slugcat) and Granite Pillars Stained By Statuesque Memories Of A Thousand Hands (she is named that because, technically, shes not an iterator- shes essentially a prototype iterator and Fucking Huge (because at the time of her creation, they hadnt yet figured out Any of the iterator-making conventions or strategies).
she's positioned in the middle of the ocean (both to minimize risk to local populations in case of emergency and to ensure easy access to water), making it Very difficult for any of her local fauna to get to the mainland. the Winner here is Granite Pillars's messenger slug, and they're rockhopping their way to their very first mission!! this is literally the first time theyve Ever been off of granite pillars's can :)

hi. i pretend the timeline doesn't exist and raise you: hunter and spearmaster playdates
SEE, HA IM ACTUALLY-- -points aggressively- I KEEP THINKIN ABOUT THAT. I KEEP THINKIN ABOUT LIL BAB HUNTER HAVIN PLAYDATES WITH SPEARS FUCKIN,,,
this is legit part of my interpretation lore, i fuckin love it so much- so Nish isn't very confident in his ability to be a Parent, right? not so sure he can exactly teach this slug kid how to be a proper slugcat. so he calls up Suns one day like "hey. hey could you like please.... send your messenger over, it is an emergency" and Suns, in their apathetic glory, is like "my god. not again. emergency. shit. aight, incoming..." and sends Spear over
n like!!! it ends up with Hunter viewing these two artifical purple things as her parents!!! dad 1 (the one with a green hue) and dad 2 (the one with the Long Knives)
Nish at some point explains the situation to Suns and then it becomes a whole thing where Spear comes over often to help raise her. and then one day when they become too old to make the journey over to Nish's place, Hunter comes to them to say goodbye. that's actually her first big journey out of the nest! it has a sad ending, what with this bein the last time she will see Spear, and its also kind of scary, because of what state Suns is in at that point, but yeah, we can skew the timeline a LEEETTLE for the benefits of uncle/dad Spear

[image ID: the first image is of the cover for the Hello from the Hallowoods podcast. it depicts the silhouettes of trees, and a large creature emerging from behind them. it's furry, with many red eyes, horns, large antlers, and a clawed hand raised up, as if waving at the viewer. above the creature, in the middle of a red gun sight, reads: "Hello." in red text. the second image is of No Significant Harassment, a shadowy figure standing behind a sleeping pink-red, fox-like creature. their green hands seem to be holding up the floating creature. end ID]
Diggory Graves
Convinced they only lost the deadguydeathmatch because not enough people knew about them. A bit of a Frankenstein's monster scenario. Uses they/them pronouns, is dating a ghost trans man. Despite their intimidating appearance they are lovely and would go to the ends of the Earth for their friends. Their arms are for hugs and their claws are for fighting
No Significant Harassment
They're just a silly little guy. A jokester. Significant harassment if you will. Anyway, a more in depth run down: They're a city sized supercomputer built by a Buddhist adjacent society to figure out how to transcend the 'Great Cycle' (semi-metaphorical cycle of death and rebirth) in a safer way than the previous method (submerging oneself in the 'void sea' which is a mysterious golden liquid that dissolves whatever it touches). Despite being built for this express purpose NSH never really shows a pressing interest in ascension, even cracking jokes about those who are still looking for a solution. Whether this is due to indifference, dislike of, or humor to cope with being unable to ascend is not clear and really up to interpretation. Example: NSH: I wish them super good luck in that endeavor. How is it going to happen? Have the overseers gnaw through bedrock until their entire can crashes down in the void sea? BSM: Please be respectful when speaking of the Void Sea. Grey Wind, where did you hear this? CW: I really shouldn't say. He's going to attempt some sort of breeding program. Thought you might want to know. NSH: Haha with the slimers, lizards and etceteras? Surely the answer was in a lizard skull all along! He's very flippant, but does care very intensely for those close to him. NSH: Moon? It's me again. NSH: I do not know if you are receiving these. Please signal in any way you can. NSH: I need to talk to you. I need to know you're okay. NSH: … NSH: Its difficult for us to assist you over this distance. NSH: Even more difficult for us to do anything in the midst of these tantrums. NSH: Were going to try everything that we can. NSH: Just hold on a little longer. (Context for previous convo: They genetically engineered a super organism of a slugcat (the species you play as in Rain World) to help reset his coworker/sibling after her collapse and restart her systems. He was so desperate to fix her that he accidentally messed up the slugcat's (Hunter) genetic code and as a result it became riddle with the Rot (relatively similar to aggressive cancer) :( which parallels his other coworker/siblings condition who also has the rot. ) He canonically uses he/they pronouns too! Nonbinary swag! NSH has major internet troll vibes. He has sent a data pearl of "something distasteful" to his neighbors on several(?) occasions and causes chaos. If he had access to the wider internet he'd probably be an influencer So…yeah! Vote NSH this website likes the allure of heavy machinery and stuff like that so… there you go. Kind of a blorbo. End post.

Spider-Slugs have some new refs!
Let’s quickly go over a brief summary of each!
Miles Mollusca - Young and outgoing, he was attacked by a coalescipede, headed by a genetically altered one while adventuring down in the darker tunnels of the surface with his uncle. His attack and near death down there created a rift in an already rocky family relationship. He developed the standard spider-slug powers with some additions:
Miles can complete a circuit loop similarly to a centipede and electrocute a creature. This also allows him to charge electric spears independently. Handy! He’s in turn, immune to smaller shocks from Jellyfish and small centipedes.
Like a white lizard, he can camouflage and fade into his surroundings. If he gets hurt, the saturated areas on his body will rapidly flash different colors.
Gwen Slugcy - Gwen hails from a foreign slugcat colony that was overrun with vultures. Forced to make a trek to a new territory, Gwen was nearly taken by a Wolf Spider, saving herself only with a resourceful rock throw.
Gwen can extend and retract urticating hairs on her back, which she frequently utilizes in combat to get an edge on her opponents.
Gwen can also utilize a venomous bite similar to a normal Wolf Spider to incapacitate her prey. She hasn’t quite yet learned how to do that weird resuscitation thing, though.
Independent of her abilities, Gwen’s subspecies of slugcat naturally has a hoodlike pouch on the backs of their necks. This pouch is typically used for carrying young, extra food, or keeping the sun out of their eyes, as it can be pulled over their head with little difficulty.
Miguel O’ Helicoidea - Also known as ‘Specimen-2099’, Miguel originates from an iterator can that took notice of the original Spider-Slug and aimed to create a more effective and lethal version. Miguel is, as his Specimen indicator implies, the 2099th subject, and the first to be considered successful in incubation. He emerged utterly disgusted and displeased with his existence- and exacted revenge on the iterator by severing its puppet from its can. He journeyed away with two survivors, which quickly dropped to one survivor.
Miguel is the only Spider-Slug to lack a bite mark, as he was genetically engineered with his abilities.
His urticating hairs cannot be retracted, and itch worse than any natural spider’s.
Miguel’s normal, neon appearance isn’t just for show. When he is not shifted into his other appearance, his skin secretes a horribly poisonous mucus.
On top of this, Miguel bears venom in both his fangs and claws, which cause muscle atrophy.
Unrelated comment:
I think it’s funny that I literally made Gwen the trans flag colors but Miguel looks more like a walking pride parade LOL

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Endless Moving Nights He/They 3rd Gen Endless Moving Nights is usually referred to as "Nights" or more commonly "Endless" as for short. He majors in Biological mechanics and his facility status is currently collapsed after Hidden Niche of Pearls sent a large squad of scavengers and used highly reactive explosives. Before the collapse, Endless had severe insomnia and tended to stay up late into the cycle to work on finding the solution to The Great Problem. He (somewhat) found the solution to, but it was far too dangerous without testing. He had contacted his friend, Witch of Twin Stars to test it out for him- as it was technically a way to save her from the immense rot in her superstructure. She was dying, and what Endless was offering was a body switch into a slugcat subspecies. The subspecies being the only bipedal smart enough in Endless' facility that could be rewired to comprehend the ability to bodyswitch- Bottomfeeders. He sent one of his Bottomfeeders to Witch's can- in which Witch enacted on the instructions Endless had given to her. It was a success, however due to the 'solution' being far too close to being against the self-destruct taboo itself- they both kept it a secret. One of Endless' personal logs stored in a data pearl was 'accidentally' delivered to Hidden Niche of pearls- the iterator being extremely lawful. After the collapse, Endless' half-dead puppet was brought to Pines' can where he was hooked up to an emergency port for an umbilical.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Clock of the North She/Her 3rd Gen Clock of the North- formally known as Clock that Forever Points to the Northern Sky or a simpler short name just being Clock. She used to frequently learn more and more about botany and alchemy- however one time, her potion created The Rot in her superstructure. It spread, and she eventually soon collapsed. The rot had gotten partially cleaned up by a squad of slugcats sent by Green Pines, however, when Clock was kidnapped it simply invited itself back in. A large prehistoric slugcat named Memory had taken Clock to an iterator's facility from another local group, which has since been resolved. She was taken to Pines' can for a short amount of time before deciding to leave to beeline from there, to Chime's can, to her own can to finally get back to. She's close friends with Green Pines and Endless Moving Nights.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One Last Chime He/They 2nd Gen One Last Chime, commonly known as Chime or Chimes. One Last Chime is best friends with Endless Moving Nights, WAS friends with Howling Winds, and is either neutral to everybody else or hates everybody else. Ever since Clock of the North was created, it was rather obvious Chime had a big fat crush on her. He talked to her almost every cycle trying to engage her in conversation, frequently showing that he cared about her and just liked talking to her in general. That was until he accused Pines of simply wanting to use clock and claiming he was untrustworthy- and also accidentally slipped out that he loved her. Clock cut off all communication with him for many cycles. They only started talking again- just as friends- when Clock was transported to Pines' can. Chime still has often arguments with Pines, however, he is beginning to become good friends nowadays. Chime is now beginning to realize he has a crush on Endless now which is gonna end fine and dandy! (it's not)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hidden Niche of Pearls She/They 2nd Gen Hidden Niche of Pearls- normally known as Pearls or more commonly as Niche. Niche is an extremely lawful neutral iterator with a high sense of regal and betterness. She understands her place in situations, however enjoys being formal- especially with other iterators. Niche likes to indulge in cultural study from the ancients to her own scavenger colony. Her colony of scavengers respect her and see her as their caretaker and leader, however, there's one particular scavenger- Cookie- she has a direct bond with. Cookie is a young scavenger working to become an elite with her siblings Sylvester and Natalie, and she occasionally pays Niche a visit. They'll talk a lot and Niche lets her guard down whenever with the little scavenger. She feels like a mother figure to Cookie, and Cookie feels like a child figure to Niche. Pearls is slightly antisocial as she would rather spend her time studying or talking to Cookie- and she also has mild paranoia due to a certain fallacy from another iterator which had lead to her breaking her morals.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Green Pines He/Him 2nd Gen Green Pines- almost always referred to as Pines. Pines is an authoritive yet layed back iterator with a set of his own code and morals. He frequently got into heavy arguments with the iterator Howling Winds- one day Winds sent him a file that was supposed to help him find the solution. Pines was grateful but suspicious of the hospitality- and rightfully so. The file contracted rot that quickly spread through Pines' superstructure. He was silent for a long time, however in that time had been readying a slugcat colony. The slugcats had cleared out almost all of his rot, and 40-50 of them had been sent to take out Winds for what he had done. Only one of them came back alive, however the mission was successful. After word was out that Pines had murdered Winds, most iterators banned him from chats and/or simply resented him. However Clock of the North believed his intentions were good. She didn't have a good relationship with Winds either, as he tended to be rather hostile. Later on in time, Pines began to rebuild his reputation back up and became friends with most iterators in his local group. He cares dearly for his colony of slugcats and hopes for them to continue advancing without the constant threat of rain above the clouds on his superstructure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Witch of Twin Stars He/Her 2nd Gen Witch of Twin Stars- the slugcat now encompanying her puppet is referred to as Kasume, however the iterator who body switched with the slugcat is simply reffered to as The Witch or just Witch. After being body switched, Witch set off to head to the Void Sea where she would then attempt to ascend and see if the solution was truly plausible. Along the way, she met a fluffy yellow slugcat named Sunny- and the pup they took care of, Junior. While travelling, Witch had not told Sunny about her intentions, nor was she sure if the slugcat friend could comprehend it. She began growing a close bond with Sunny, and when it came time to dip into the void sea, she came back up. She couldn't do it. She couldn't leave what she had behind. She headed to Endless' can without telling Sunny or Junior where she was going only to find he had since collapsed. Witch found a pup of her own that she treats as her son- Smoky. They have since been living in Pines' colony.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Karmic Obnoxious Inaccuracy She/It 1st Gen Karmic Obnoxious Inaccuracy, almost always referred to as Koi. She isn't technically a part of Windtooth Plane as she's a bit farther away with no local group of her own, though was originally created to be a part of it. She has no communications with the local group, however she does have communications (occasionally) with her brother Endless. Her facility is submerged underwater, so her arrays and different parts of the superstructure constantly get flooded- making communications somewhat unreliable a lot of the time. She's a bit of an aggressively caring iterator with a strong protectiveness over her brother. She doesn't talk to many other people, however, she has had a word or two with One Last Chime.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Howling Winds He/Him 2nd Gen Howling Winds, sometimes referred to as just Winds. Winds is a highly 'lawful' iterator who frequently antagonizes most others. Despite having administrator privileges before he was murdered, he worked in illegal arsenal manufacturing- weaponry, essentially. Most iterators were neutral toward him, however he had a personal vendetta against Green Pines. The only two people he conversed with as friends were Endless Moving Nights and One Last Chime, however Chime moreso tolerated him than not.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(FYI, the second and third image are NOT alternate outfits. The second one is what's underneath the cloak.)
Angel of Dominance She/Her 3rd Gen An iterator who was kidnapped by an iterator of her own local group. She had many experiments done on her and eventually was found dead by Pines' slugcats. She was brought to the facility and temporarily revived but due to a large surgical cut from her hips to her chest, she was in constant pain. The temporary revival was taken away as they did not have the resources to keep her puppet maintained. Eventually, her puppet was rehooked up to the structure when Endless effectively left. She hopes to one day go back to her can in Loveless Meije, however with it being left unattended for some time there's a chance it'll collapse soon.
OTHER ITERATORS (the one's without reference sheets)
Eight Islands Under Storm Clouds He/Him 2nd Gen An iterator in Windtooth Plane who's extremely antisocial. They haven't said a word to the local group other than Niche. He was created for the purpose of making explosives.
Two Rocks Eroding He/Him 2nd Gen Another iterator who's not necessarily in Windtooth plane, but is in the area. They haven't spoken to anybody.
Pristine Snow, Twisted Mountains She/They 2nd Gen An iterator who was previously conceived as dead from a power surge. Their facility was built on top of a snowy mountain that has heavy snowfalls. They have spoken to the local group a few times here or there but has mostly talked to Green Pines. Their 'death' was soon discovered as faked. She has broken many taboos- almost all of them, to be exact.
Misguided Information Any/All 3rd Gen INFORMATION CLASSIFIED
{ Clock of the North and One Last Chime both belong to @chaoticgoober . Green Pines, Howling Winds and Pristine Snow, Twisted Mountains all belong to chickenboi on discord. Two Rocks Eroding belongs to King STAZE on all platforms (mostly). Eight Islands Under Storm Clouds belongs to my brother, SomethingUnusual (on all platforms). Everyone else belongs to me. }

more plural saint au stuff!! this time i actually designed their headmates, LOL. anyways info below cut
(the designs above are how they appear in the headspace/how they view themselves in general, but its very hard to notice them when youre actually looking at saint from the outside. enot is the only slugcat who can immediately spot the difference, however.)
the observer is more of a keen person, judging and well, making observations around their enviorment. very strategic. avoids lizard attacks very quickly. theyre the cohost of the system, probably because of their abilities in things. hes very persistent on following the rules, and will be harsh when said rules are broken.
the guardian is able to use spears and hit them with somewhat of a normal damage. saint is against this though and requests that she doesnt do it. the guardian dislikes this, but do it at the request of saint anyways. unless its an emergency of course, and they really are in danger) they are a bit more clumsy than observer, and would trip everynow and then. but are able to communicate with beings easily.
saint is easily stressed and overwhelmed, so those two come out alot of the times. they are trying their best, though please be kind to them :) they might also split more... Oops.

The domestic cat was originally a semi wild working animal, moving to granaries and farmlands maintained by People to hunt small animals attracted by the crop stores. In time, it became a popular companion animal, bred into a variety of colours and patterns. Its friendly nature and pleasing mannerisms ensured its presence persisted in the world as long as the People did.
Cats were a fairly solitary animal, obligate carnivores, and prone to bonding strongly with a single Person. They had eight fluffy antennae on their faces, exquisitely sensitive to air currents around them, and large triangular ears. Their six expressive proto-wings could rub together to create interesting chirping sounds, or on occasion, a rumbling clicking sound called a 'purr'. Their tails boasted a stinger on the end for self defence, but they will avoid using it except in the most dire circumstances.
Now, cats are all extinct except for some few created as pets by iterators. Their nearest surviving relative is the squidcada. Recently, an emerging intelligent creature of some interest as a purposed organism has been named for their resemblance to the domestic cat.
(Listen, if I'm going to call slugcats slugcats in story, I need justification for what they were named after.)
Bonus: PET the kitty!!!

as promised, here's the parcels' ref! Eclipse's lil delivery thing :]
Blinding Eclipse Beams essentially was like "Fuuuuck my stupid baka life now i need to kill a twink" and bio-engineered an abandoned albino slugpup without asking for permission first
actual detail under the cut :3
parcel was abandoned at a slugpup by its parents bc it came from a large litter, and due to its albinism had a slim chance of surviving.
its family was already living relatively close to BEB's can so while it was alone, BEB guided it back to his can with his overseers.
He made a few adjustments, primarily giving it a thick and short coat of fur, a pouch, and extra skin it can utilize to glide in open air.
LLH's region is extremely open, making it an excellent place for The Parcel to glide. It has a high base speed, but its weight increases with every few items it stores in its pouch.
it can store up to 5 items. at 0-1 item stored it has arti's speed. at 2-3 stored items it has survivor's base speed. at 4-5 items stored it has gourmand's base speed. Once it stores 4 items it can no longer glide. it can store any item a slugcat can fit in its mouth.
due to its arm flaps it cannot roll, and will instead thump against the ground when attempting to do so. instead, it will take considerably less fall damage when landing. Due to its strenuous day-to-day it has a higher than average food requirement, but can store a lot of food for the next cycle.
after ensuring it could survive on its own, he sent it off with a specially engineered neuron fly to be delivered to LLH for no particular reason haha*
*the neuron fly is encoded with a forced maintenance protocol, which was only supposed to be used in emergencies by ancients. It disconnects the puppet from the rest of the can, essentially putting said iterator into a stasis, forever trapped inside their mind with no body or mouth to communicate to the outside world.
typically ancients would manually reconnect the puppet to the can once maintenance was finished, but with no ancients left, an iterator would be left to its own devices for many many cycles with no way of attaching its body back to its can.
It's the closest thing to death BEB could manufacture in a reasonable amount of time.

Some of my assorted theories and headcanons about iterators:
In no particular order:
I think that overseers are all part of one large iterator organ rather than discrete individuals.
A microscopic, thread-like structure similar to mycelium can be found all throughout an iterator's surrounding complex. It spreads through tiny gaps in soil, rock, and metal. All the threads are connected directly to an iterator like a nervous system that extends far outside their cans.
Overseers are a bit like the fruiting bodies of a fungus; they're able to emerge from this network of threads via small holes in surfaces. Similar to nerve endings, they can collect stimuli about the outside world, and send signals down the threads similar to the way nerve impulses move down a nerve.
The majority of overseers are found on the outside of an iterator's can and in the surrounding area, becoming less common farther away. However, with some effort, an iterator can extend this network beyond the normal limits of their complex (seen in the fact that Seven Red Suns is able to send an overseer all the way over to Five Pebbles and Look's to the Moon's complex in order to follow Spearmaster).
Iterators have many more pearls than the ones seen in their puppet chambers.
I personally think data pearls are analogous to files on a computer, or maybe USB drives, which move data between systems. Given the fact that iterators are capable of running many different processes at once, it makes sense to assume that they have much more storage for data than the pearls that can be found in their chambers.
The majority of pearls an iterator uses are probably stored somewhere inaccessible in the game. However, the Light Yellow pearl can be found in Looks to the Moon's Memory Conflux, suggesting that pearls are used in that area as well. I believe iterators are able to access the data stored on pearls in their memory conflux without needing to bring them into their puppet chamber. If you bring the Light Yellow pearl to Moon, she remarks that it contains her personal notes, but suddenly forgets what they are about, and then asks you to put the pearl back where you found it. This suggests to me that moving the pearl from its intended location prevents Moon from accessing those memories.
Iterators are probably able to move pearls around the interior of their cans, most likely through the use of purposed organisms. These organisms can sort through pearls in storage and carry them from one location to another. I'm not sure what they look like, but I'm going to call them Couriers. They might be a distant relative of slugcats, albeit much more specialized. They might have appendages similar to a slugcat's arms for sorting through pearl caches, and are capable of storing pearls in their stomachs for transport. Couriers might move through a system of pipes and can deliver pearls directly to and from an iterator's puppet chamber. Kind of like getting your mail via pneumatic tube. Fwoop.
The pearls in an iterator's puppet chamber are likely there because they are actively using the information stored on it for some process, or they are altering the data stored on it. Pearls might be an equivalent to non-volatile computer memory (such as in a hard drive), used for long-term storage. Perhaps the data stored in pearls can only be altered by an iterator's puppet, so if they need to change something, the pearl needs to be transported to their chamber.
I also think that iterator puppets are analogous to a computer's I/O devices.
When you use a computer, you use a mouse and keyboard, and look at information on a screen. However, the actual computing takes place in the computer's processors. If you unplug the mouse, keyboard, and monitor from a computer, it can still compute just fine, but you as a user lose the ability to interact meaningfully with the data stored within. These peripherals are called Input/Output (or I/O) devices.
Similarly, an iterator is much more than their puppet; both their biological and mechanical processes are carried out in the larger superstructure as well as the outside area surrounding it. However, if their creators want to be able to utilize these processes, they need something to interact with: an I/O device. Similar to how a computer monitor turns ones and zeroes into pixels on a screen, iterator puppets communicate via body language and speech. Puppets can also observe and interpret things in their chamber, like how a keyboard and mouse interpret inputs from a user into information the computer can use.
Iterator puppets aren't perfectly analogous to a computer screen, however. I think the puppets (and the rooms surrounding the puppet chamber) also function similarly to a human brain, which is the most important part of the central nervous system. Obviously humans are much more than their brains, but they also can't function without them.
The rooms surrounding Moon's chamber are called the "Neural Terminus", which supports this theory. The analogous rooms in Five Pebbles are called the "General Systems Bus"; in computers the System Bus connects the major parts of a computer, allowing the CPU, memory, and I/O devices to communicate with each other. This supports the theory that puppets also function as I/O devices. The Neural Terminus and General Systems Bus serve very similar functions, but their different names probably reflect the differences in Five Pebbles' and Moon's construction. (Note: in Rivulet's campaign when Pebbles is overtaken with Rot, the General Systems Bus is replaced with the Primary Cortex, which sounds a lot more similar to Moon's Neural Terminus. I personally think that the General Systems Bus and Primary Cortex are next to or near each other in Pebbles' superstructure, but the Primary Cortex is inaccessible in earlier campaigns, and the General Systems Bus is blocked off by rot in Rivulet's campaign. They likely serve similar purposes.)
The music heard in the General Systems Bus/Neural Terminus is diegetic and reflects an iterator's thoughts and state of mind.
I made a post earlier about how Random Gods, the theme heard in Five Pebbles' General Systems Bus, is the sound of Five Pebbles performing a sorting algorithm. I was mostly joking, but I do think that theory holds some weight.
I've seen people theorize before that Random Gods is literally the sound of Five Pebbles thinking, and I really like that idea. It makes sense that you would hear it in the General Systems Bus, which is basically his brain. Similarly, Reflection of the Moon, which plays in Moon's Neural Terminus, is also the sound of Moon's thoughts.
Random Gods is cacophonous and frenetic, which I think reflects Pebbles' obsessive nature. Reflection of the Moon, on the other hand, is much more melodic, which I think represents how Moon is much more levelheaded. However, the sound of a ticking clock can also be heard, which I think represents the fear Moon feels about her imminent collapse. After she collapses, Reflection of the Moon becomes Moondown, which I also think is diegetic. It reflect's Moon's severely damaged state and her inability to function or think like she was able to before.
I think every iterator has a unique theme that plays in their General Systems Bus (or the equivalent), which reflects their personality, thoughts, and state of mind.
My iterator oc, Three Stars Above Clouds, was built primarily to collect astronomical data, and they spend most of their time sifting through this data and analyzing it. Because of this, I think their analogue to Random Gods would be fast paced but repetitive, representing their ability to process a lot of data at once, and performing repetitive analyses on it extremely quickly.
I heard the song "The Dream Is Always The Same" by Tangerine Dream recently, and I think it captures the feeling I was thinking about. TSAC's Random Gods equivalent probably sounds very similar to this, with repetitive synths as they access files over and over and over.

(I listened to the entire album earlier and honestly I think the whole thing is pretty iteratorcore, listen to it if you like retro synths that evoke what a computer thinking would sound like.)
.... that's probably enough thoughts for one post. I could go on. I really like thinking about iterators and how they work, Rain World does a very good job of establishing them as enormous, complex, thinking, and breathing machines. I'll probably post more thoughts at some point.

saint… isn’t an ending to rain world to me? i see people argue their story is bad because the game is designed not to end but i feel like they’re also missing the point because it DOESN’T end. i feel like it’s actually very clear on that.
you can try to end it all and instead, saint wakes right back up again. to me it’s more of an end to the iterator’s stories. They are constantly talking about how they cannot last forever, how they are going to fall apart long before a new civilization emerges. Saint’s ending shows all the cans in the distance just as destroyed as ones you ascend in their story. Moon mentions the scavengers: even now, they continue to evolve, consist, grow. The wildlife continues to adapt. The iterator’s warmth dissipating has turned the world into an icy tundra but it is anything but a waste.
Several echoes talk about the world coming to an end, a new era coming about. Who are we to assume they really know what that means? It is possible what they view as an end, the vanishing of the last of the ancient’s philosophies and constructions is already a new beginning. A Cycle of death to create new life. Rebirth. Reincarnation of the very world, if only spiritually.
To me, Saint is a lesson in futility. All the downpour slugcats have endings that are somewhat designed to be continued from. None of them are concrete ending like Hunter’s, where you must leave the world behind. Key words here: You are leaving the world behind. It is not ending without you. In Saint, you can give the iterators, who have stagnated and suffered, closure. But without them, the world continues to change and to bloom. They never found their great answer.
If you try to leave this world behind, the very void tries to reject you. Rubicon is literally described as the developers as hell. All the areas in the game past and future are mashed together. The name itself means a point of no return… and yet, you return. The only thing that does.
Are you really ascending Saint? Or are you bringing an end to the old, one last closure and goodbye, so that the new has room to grow?
Two echoes stand out in my mind here. Beauty continuing to bloom in a place long forgotten. Forgotten by the passing of ancients and their random gods, but never the world. And… Were the ancients the tenth civilization, or the thousandth? That’s a question designed not be answered, because you cannot know. It outlasts all of them.
Saint isn’t an ending to the game. It’s the ending of your story as the player, in the world you have come to know, as it leaves you behind.

I HAVE FIGURED IT OUT.
Time to rant about the timeline I’ve come up with for my little unfinished AU.
And I REALLY wanna rant because I have SO many ideas!!!
Ideas below the cut.
So.
We start off at Moon’s collapse. Spearmaster is on their way back to SRS, when they hear something behind them, and look back to see LTTM collapsing.
EXCEPT. Her west legs give out first, causing her structure to fall INTO FP’s, knocking his over like a domino in a chain. Spearmaster rushes back to SRS as fast as possible.
By the point in the timeline Artificer is supposed to arrive, FP’s facility grounds have already frozen over, and all the dangerous creatures from Saint’s campaign come out to play. (On the plus side, the Rot doesn’t survive the newfound winter, freezing to death)
Speaking of Artificer, in this timeline, since FP’s facility grounds are frozen over, SRS sends out Spearmaster again to try and scout out how bad the damage is- Except SRS knows that Spearmaster is built to handle deadly wildlife, NOT the freezing cold. SO, he creates a sibling for Spearmaster. One that can turn their needles into explosive weapons in an emergency situation, who can light fires with explosive blasts from holes in her tail.
In this timeline, Artificer is created by SRS- As Spearmaster’s ‘sibling’. Due to some kind of mess-up with her DNA, her left eye and left leg burst in a fiery blast while she is developing, meaning her eye gets bandaged up and she gets a prosthetic leg.
Meanwhile, as NSH’s structure, NSH is no longer on a time crunch since he knows that FP’s facility grounds will be unlocked since he’s collapsed, so Hunter doesn’t have to worry about the Rot.
(EDIT) OKAY completely forgot about the Rot powers I decided to give Hunter so I need to redo Hunter’s section. So. NSH is on a time crunch still because he’s worried about how long until FP’s and LTTM’s systems have until they cannot be turned back on. SO. Hunter still has to deal with the Rot BUT as explained he eventually fuses with it and it becomes a superpower, blah blah blah. Anyways, he’s coming in from NSH’s facility from the northwest.
…Unfortunately, And on top of that, NSH uses DNA from a short-haired breed of Slugcat, forgetting about how FP’s facility will be frozen over. Whoops.
While passing through Outer Expanse, Spearmaster and Artificer encounter a worried duo of older Slugpups, Survivor and Monk, who have set out to try and find Gourmand, who was in the Facility Grounds during the collapse. Artificer and Spearmaster promise to find Gourmand and send him back home, and tell Survivor and Monk to stay here where it’s safe.
Survivor ignores them and follows, and Monk reluctantly sticks by Survivor’s side. Monk was born with type-two diabetes in this timeline, because why the hell not.
Gourmand, barely surviving the collapse in Shaded Citadel, scavenges for Slime Mould to satisfy their hunger in the cold, as they slowly start making their way up through the ruins, to freedom.
Rivulet, in the meantime, swims in from the east, getting lost and separated from her family. She wanders around until she eventually finds shelter from the cold in LTTM’s unmoving arms, for now.
(EDIT3) SCRATCH THAT SCRATCH THAT BETTER IDEA. So. In this AU, Rivulet is genetically engineered by Moon instead, as a sort of last resort, to deliver pearls containing her begs and pleads to Pebbles. When Spearmaster leaves and Moon knows she’s about to collapse, that is when Rivulet returns to Moon and just… stays with her, until she collapses. When she does collapse, Rivulet gets swept up in the glitchy, failing anti-gravity, and freefalls westward until she falls into Garbage Wastes, where on impact with the water she is concussed and given amnesia.
Saint comes in from the north and begins wandering the cold wastes, searching for what remains of Pebbles and Moon in the collapsed structures.
And Enot? Honestly, I don’t have any ideas on how Enot shows up, but honestly popping into existence to just be there and be silly is kinda in character for them anyways.
Speaking of Enot, one of their eggs hatches, and creates Nightcat, and Enot begins to raise Nightcat as their own, and by the time Survivor, Monk, Spearmaster, and Artificer enter, Nightcat is slightly grown up, around Survivor’s age.
With Artificer, Spearmaster, Survivor, and Monk approaching from the west, Rivulet in the far east, Enot, Nightcat, and Gourmand in Shaded Citadel, Hunter heading to the facility grounds from the northwest, and Saint heading in from the north, the pieces are in place for everyone to meet up in this new timeline…
Which is still unnamed! Reblog or comment with name ideas please :)
(EDIT2) Oh. About Arti’s kids, I imagine she adopts them when she encounters them while travelling through the ruins of Shaded or something and adopts them.

In contrast to my last two Rain World OC posts, these guys aren't one offs and are part of my current core OC group. More info about them under the cut since it's lengthy.
First starting with The Serpent —
The Serpent is one of AV's many bio-engineered slugcats - if you can even call him a slugcat at this point - as part of a simple passion of experimenting with flexible slugcat biology
They share several traits in common with red lizards, those being constant hyper-aggression, tremendous strength, projectile spit and size
As for similarities with slugcats, well, a general elongated shape? Oh, mobility, unlike red lizards, the Serpent is very adept with vertical movement
AV didn't really have a clear goal in mind with the Serpent unlike the rest of their tube babies, they just sort of... happened.
The spontaneity of their creation though has been very interesting as despite initially being created with the solitary lifestyle of a red lizard, the Serpent still keeps his slugcat instinct of adopting random children they find
Though the Serpent seems at first, displeased with this development but rest assured that if you ever LOOK at his pup wrong they will kill everyone in the room and then himself
Though not pictured in his reference since he was my first Rain World OC, created with very little knowledge of the lore and started as a one-off, he has a citizen ID drone which AV uses to keep track of him
He was also simply created out of my desire to have a long slugcat and my obsession with red lizards combined so there's that, too
Speaking of AV, moving on to Administrative Violence —
Named after the song of the same name by Lauren Bousfield, you'd expect them to be - well - violent. They're not, at least not with those they commonly interact with
They are actually quite sweet with Blown Blooms, their partner, and Peach the slugcat
Weather conditions, all things considered, are pretty mild where they are but far, far off into the distance their partner Blown Blooms isn't so fortunate and natural erosion as well as other random unfortunate events unrelated to weather, has taken quite the toll on them
As a result and fearing for Blooms in every way possible but especially for their communication's inevitable severing and also Blooms being lonely all on their own, AV created a slugcat who resembles a strawberry lizard - a species of lizard Blooms is especially fond of
Peach was designed for protection and companionship first and foremost and an emergency messenger/relay secondly.
Outside of worrying for Blooms' condition and yearning & longing for close physical proximity to them the way creatures who aren't supermassive structures have the luxury of, AV spends most of their time studying their bio-engineered slugcats.
Each and every one of them is given a citizen ID drone for ease of tracking as well as general classifications
They couldn't give a shit about whatever problem the other iterators are working on - just these funny little slugcats
They take the occasional interest in other animals too but it's mainly slugcats
And finally, Blown Blooms and Peach —
Blooms, like AV, is named after a song of the same name by Lauren Bousfield. Peach is just named after her colors.
Blooms, like their partner AV, has a complete disinterest in the great problem and a very big interest in bio-engineering
This time with plants rather than animals though they have a soft spot for small critters but they're usually never the subject of any experiments - just study and admiration
However, due to a deteriorating state, Blooms isn't quite able to use their equipment to manipulate genetic information like they used to - which is upsetting
So instead, they help AV with their current studies as well as keeping tabs on their own prior experiments
They have Peach now, though, which brings a much appreciated break from constant studying and nice close companionship
Peach will often catch prey outside and come back to eat it with Blooms and occasionally Blooms will play around with Peach and levitate the prey around for Peach to chase in anti-grav
The event that pushed AV to create Peach was when a creature entered Blooms' chamber and attacked them, partially damaging their puppet before being killed and then expelled from the chamber
Blooms is absolutely still capable of themselves and ultimately damaging the puppet a bit is nothing when taking account the sheer scale of an iterator - but AV will be AV
Plus, Blooms isn't complaining about getting a cute little companion from AV
And general trivia/info —
Everyone here is aroace. All of them. AV & Blooms' relationship is non-romantic in a sapphic way
The Serpent's pup's name is Pipsqueak
I know rudder tails shouldn't curve like that but I decided that after I finished drawing the Serpent and I wasn't about to redraw anything at that point
The other Iterators in AV and Bloom's local group are Illuminated Crown of Fire, Projections of Watchful Eyes, and an unnamed lunar-eclipse inspired iterator.
I have little information on them right now, but they are each based off of solar eclipses, stars and lunar eclipses respectively
In all, this local group is just a bunch of experiment freaks to varying degrees except for ICoF whose presence is often forgotten because of how little they speak but is also ever looming
And that's all! Thank you for reading this far in <3
