fic update: fit for thrones chapter 11!!

I was like almost done with this for ages and there was one conversation I had to come up with one different line for, thanks to a couple of great line-edit suggestions from @bittylildragon, but then as I was working on it I realized a slightly different direction the conversation needed to go in order to actually get what I was imagining out into the actual page, and it meant I could introduce an entire new subplot and background, which was exciting, but--

well mostly I'm trying a different medication and suddenly I can write again, so that's amazing and I'm excited and the only downside is that this new medication costs $160 more for a two-week supply than the medication that almost-worked but meant I didn't so much as open a fic doc for four weeks.

mmmmyeah I love American healthcare. But I'll eventually hit my deductible I guess.

So we all get what was supposed to be a couple thousand words of Morvran&Lu banter, but it's a whole chapter instead. I didn't figure anyone would mind, there's new plot points all through it. They're very effective, those two.

Now I have to rewrite several future chapters almost in their entirety, though.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the Empress ending, lately

Of how things with living in present while still vividly remembering the past could.. work out for them, you know. There’s so much damage beyond repair on the one hand, and so much bonds and changes on the other

Maybe comic is a good idea.. 🤔

And there’s some fancy clothes for Emhyr as a bonus. Mostly for official occasions I believe, for, taken his original description and design, his basic rules for dressing are “dark, calm, modest”, accompanied by “preferably red, black or green” from the game

A sudden gust of wind lifted the curtains and sunlight played with his hair and the golden chain around his neck. "Ciri, I swear on my honor as a knight to serve you, to protect you in times of need, to succour you in times of want.” He put one hand above his heart as he made his vow and she felt hers beating in turn.

Politicking politicking politicking. True • a court of thorns (and dang I can’t disagree with every one of them; reasonable bastardy). Brilliant dialogue. More witchering mystery. What more do you want? Romantic and in-character vows? Bam. Soft and beautiful sex scene? Bam. ❤️‍🔥 Previously-sidelined characters getting amazing and unique character development? BAM!

ciri as empress of nilfgaard and roche as her loyal vassal and them dating...

Ciri being Emhyr’s Heir while Vernon was her lover and vassal would include:

-Poor, poor Mererid

-Man has to somehow train Vernon Roche to be a vassal while also serving Emhyr and seeing to Ciri and help her with training to be an Empress.

-Vernon Roche is so stubborn and it causes Ciri both amusement and horror, sometimes at the same time.

-Vernon Roche fights Emhyr every step of the way, this was Emhyr’s idea and Vernon is not going to let him forget it.

-Emhyr thought if Vernon Roche was made Vassal to Ciri then their love could be continued and everything would go smoothly

-Nope

-Vernon has to be a butt about everything, the clothes, the manners, the training in etiquette, the training in dancing (Honestly it’s ridiculous, how can someone memorize all these steps)

-The only part Vernon doesn’t fight is the military help he can provide to Emhyr and Ciri, though he does make small quips about the emperor under his breath much to Emhyr’s chagrin.

-Emhyr actually likes Vernon and his challenges though he makes to sure everyone thinks he despises the man and his Northnerness.

-Emhyr is thrilled Ciri took to being his heir even if it meant Vernon Roche would be close

-Little tiffs between Vernon and Emhyr that leave Ciri surely thinking Vernon will meet the hang man’s noose

-“NO! I will NOT be dancing during this event!” “You and Ciri are expected to dance as the main event for the ball, yes you will!” and so on. The tiffs leave Vernon irritable and grouchy while Emhyr is nothing if but amused and tickled someone would actually challenge him. Ciri wants to cuff them both over the head.

-Eventually Emhyr retires and chuckles as Vernon barely scrapes through Ciri’s coronation.

-Emhyr is his retirement comes over to the palace so often and loves to pick little fights with Vernon over stupid little things just to get a rise out of Vernon. Vernon takes a LONG time to catch on that this is a game to Emhyr.

-Vernon actually thought Emhyr HATES him, which he did at first to be fair. Takes a while for him to come around and openly admit that maybe Emhyr isn’t THAT bad. Maybe… Possibly..

-Mererid is glad when Emhyr retires, as he ‘retires’ with Emhyr and continues to serve him.

-Mererid does NOT like the tiffs, the are unprofessional and Sir would you please be mindful of what Vernon’s temper does to the court…

-Ciri takes to the throne beautifully and enjoys visits from Emhyr every now and again, though if you would please stop making my vassal slightly intimidated and irritable that would be great, thanks.

"Oh for Melitele's sake," Ciri muttered under her breath, "will you just fuck off!" Her voice then echoed round the chamber, she pushed herself to her feet and glared at the man kneeling before her.

"I know what my father promised, and I know what was implied in those promises as well, but I am NOT him."

All faces were turned to her, open mouthed staring. Five years since Emhyr had handed his throne to Cirilla, three since an assassin's blade had found his unguarded back, and still old agreements and promises were coming out the woodwork. Old agreements and old complaints that she still wasn't wed.

"Temeria has served us as a vassal state well and true in these last years, and you, as its regent have done a great duty. But as my father promised my hand to a good number over the years, I stand by my own decision that I will not wed." She placed her hand on her swollen stomach and took in the room. "I have my heir, that is enough. Whatever was promised to you Roche, I will not uphold that bargain. Especially not now Adda is of an age to rule on her own."

She beckoned him forwards, the rage cooling from her voice. "You've taught her well, it's time for you to step back, look after yourself for once. Temeria has taken everything from you, and will take and take and take until you are dead if you let it. Maybe it's time for you to live? Perhaps to retire to Vergen and see what amends may be made there?"

She raised a coy eyebrow at him, and he ducked his head, ashamed.

"As my empress commands." He said quietly. "Thank you." As nothing more than a whisper for her ears as he bowed his head again and stepped back.

chapter update: fit for thrones ch 3

Now with more sex!

Chapter 3 is Ciri and Lu having very hot sex and also taking turns uncovering their own trauma, so hopefully it will be worth the wait. I actually wrote this chapter I think more than a year ago-- there are some beta comments from the invaluable @bittylildragon that are simply dated "Oct 12th" but as I look at them, it's not this past October, for sure. But I was so stuck on chapter 4, I didn't want to put this chapter up until I was sure where it was going. (Because sometimes when you're stuck the actual answer is that you've got to backtrack a ways; I really try not to write myself into a corner.) The issue was within chapter 4 itself, however, and while I didn't finish fixing it this week I did get it fixed enough that I could be sure chapter 3 wouldn't be affected.

So here is chapter 3 for you, my loves, and I hope December is being gentle with you.

Chapter 3 of Fit For Thrones, on AO3.

“That’s a start,” Lu said, beaming down at her. There was something coy in her expression, almost like she knew a secret, or something. Ciri couldn’t place it. “You seem like you have a destination in mind,” Ciri said. “Ha,” Luliana said, “it’s not a destination, it’s an entire journey I want to take.” Ciri could recognize this expression; Lu was delighted to have come up with such a good metaphor. That made her warm all through her middle. She loved that she could read Lu so easily, and that everything she could read was so straightforward. Ciri wriggled in delight, settling herself deeper into the bed. She put her hands up above her head, as if surrendering. “Take me on a journey,” she said. It seemed gracious, to surrender thus. “Oh,” Luliana said, a little bit breathless, “I will.”
