Severe hypothermia is great but as someone who has experienced mild hypothermia, I think it needs more credit.
You don't need medical attention but everything just feels wrong for the hours and days afterward. You can't regulate your body temperature right. You're cold and shivering but the blankets and sleeping bags you're swaddled in have you sweating because youre body hasn't decided you're safe enough to send blood back to your extremities. You want to warm your hands and feet but know that's going to send the cold blood right back deep, deep into your core like daggers.
Dress warmly when you're out on lobster fishing boats y'all...

A character shielding their companion from the elements with their own body- positioning themselves as a wind-block; sitting so their shadow is cast across their companion's face; leaning over them to provide scant shelter from the rain; curling close to lend their warmth; tucking their companion's face close and cupping a hand over it to block wind-blown grit or sand; acting as a human shield from pelting hail or sleet; cradling their companion in their lap to insulate them from the seeping cold of the ground...

Whumpee escapes whumper in the dead of night. They managed to steal whumpers phone on their way out; now all they need is a signal before they freeze to death in the rain.

Most people find listening to the sound of falling rain relaxing.
Most people.
Not him.
He had spent too many nights huddled under awnings and tucked under bridges, unable to avoid the water that soaked him and what little he had to the skin.
Wet shoes and socks meant being barefoot, too numb with cold to notice he was stepping on broken beer bottles along the road. Wet clothes meant that he had only hours to find somewhere, anywhere to get warm or dry before he would get sick, really sick.
He wasn’t there, anymore.
He was safe.
He was home.
But that didn’t mean the sound of falling rain didn’t fill him with a bone deep sense of dread.
She didn’t understand exactly; she knew she’d been lucky enough to never associate the sound of rain with anything other than staying indoors. But she understood enough.
Warm blankets and dry socks found their way into his lap while the whistle of the kettle drowned out at least a little of the noise.
She’d close the curtains and put a movie on, loud enough that he could almost forget until the next crack of thunder would make him jump.
He didn’t hide under storefront umbrellas or overpasses anymore, but he did tuck himself further under her arm, as if out of habit, even now.
They both silently hoped that one day, the rain would be just rain. But until then, they’d wait out the storm together, in dry socks.

when whumpee is left chained in the woods, without anyone to hear them if they scream and the green grass promising to grow over their corpse.
when they realize that the woods aren’t silent like they always thought and the wind in the trees sound like whispers and something…something is moving through the grass behind them.
they’ve screamed until their voice is hoarse and coughed up blood but the green shadows have swallowed the sound.
The cicadas buzz and all whumpee can do is let the silence crush them

picture a chilled, soaked whumpee stuck outside with their team in a rainy forest, huddled under a makeshift shelter and wrapped in a damp blanket. the rainstorm had come on fast and strong and the team had rushed to set up shelter, but not before everyone got drenched in icy rain. now, whumpee can’t stop shivering, teeth rattling with cold as they tug the useless layer closer. a fire is impossible in these conditions. a stiff breeze blows through the tent, and they just shudder from head to toe. a companion wraps their arm around whumpee and pulls them close, and whumpee buries their face in their companion’s neck. it’s going to be a long, cold, miserable night.

Behold!!!! The piece that got delayed by my surprise visit to death prevention jail end of last year!
This is my submission to @thewhumpyprintingpress's ABCs of Whump zine!!! It's available for purchase, go check it out :)
I was so excited to participate, and it was such a pleasure :) This piece took a while, and it is right on the edge of my current capabilities as an artist, but it was incredibly fun and rewarding to work on, I'm very proud of how it turned out <3
Featured is my mer shifter boi Pete from my fav project Shifting Phases :) I love him very much and could not resist another oppourtunity to have a work featuring him published.
(I had to scrunch it significantly to get Tumblr to take it ^-^')

We need more character who struggle to regulate their body temperature.
More fuzzy socks, more hot water bottles, more instant heat pack, more beanie hats, more bulky jackets.
More loose-fitting shirts, more cooling sheets, more ice packs, more umbrellas on sunny days.

when there's snow or rain coming down hard and the day's dark and gloomy and whumpee has no choice but to keep trudging along the road or through the woods or field. they're headed somewhere - maybe somewhere they know they're safe, maybe just anywhere but here - but they've got a ways to go and they can't give in. exhaustion clings to their body, the cold is so sharp it cuts all the way to their core. their clothes are long-since soaked, and the water mixes in with the blood. their battered body aches but they have to keep going. one foot in front of the other, keep going.

can you give some prompts of either asphyxiation/strangulation or heat whump please? i hardly see any that are prompts soo
hi! Feel free to check out this post for asphyxiation/strangulation recovery whump ideas. I'll jot down some captivity ones while I'm here:)
Content: Aspyxiation/suffocation, collars, captivity, immortal whumpee, gags, heat whump, environmental whump, dehydration, burns.
Aspyxiation/stragulation
Whumper tightening Whumpee's collar by one hole each time they misbehave. Really, it's up to Whumpee as to whether they want to be able to breathe or not within the next few hours.
Whumpee stucks their tongue out after a certain amount of time without air, and Whumper thinks it's the cutest thing ever. Cue them randomly reaching out to choke them and just waiting to see Whumpee start to drool and for their tongue to stick out.
Whumpee's raspy breaths in as the force around their neck slowly tightens.
Shoving their face near a pot of boiling water and threatening to drown them in it.
Whumper trying to "squeeze the tears out of them". AKA Whumpee cries when they're choked.
An immortal whumpee going hours or even days with the collar practically suffocating them.
Whumpee mouthing the word "please" over and over again and Whumper choosing to take it as "squeeze harder".
That huge gasp of air and the way their body writhes when they're finally able to breathe again.
A reverse gag being shoved down their throat until they learn to be respectful.
The little choked whimpers that Whumpee lets out as their airflow is cut off.
Environmental heat whump
Whumpee is stuck in the desert and refuses to drink any water until they actually need it. Cue them passing out on the ground because of dehydration.
There's a heatwave coming and vampire Whumpee is suddenly extremely aware of the sun looming outside, waiting to get them the moment the curtains peer open or there's a crack in the door.
After being stuck out in the hot sun all day, Caretaker runs Whumpee a cool bath and helps them bathe. They're surprised when Whumpee turns the knob for the cold water and lets it cool the water even more.
Stuck in a desert, but they've spent their entire lives living in the cold and have no idea how to survive the heat.
Accidentally trapping themselves in a boiler room.
Stuck with a broken/sprained leg on the side of the road as the sun burns them. There's no shade anywhere and they're in so much pain.
A vampire whumpee absolutely horrified by the sunburn Whumpee has acquired while out and about. (Check out this little drabble from @whumpsday)
Screaming for help but their mouth is so dried out from the heat that barely anything comes out.
Whumpee having no choice but to walk across the pavement on a really hot day without shoes (hurts like a fucking bitch)
Whumpee not being able to sleep because of the sunburn that's on their entire body. The countless days of running on no sleep and being barely unable to move because it hurts so fucking bad.

tw hypnosis, vampire whumper, some environmental whump ig
It was uncharacteristically cold for a November morning, and Whumpee cursed themself for not bringing gloves. Even on the short trip to the store, their hands were already freezing, and they couldn’t imagine what it’d be like on the way back, when they couldn’t even put them in their pockets.
On top of all that, the store was still closed. Just great. It should’ve opened ten minutes ago, which wasn’t egregious, but it was enough to make Whumpee groan in frustration at having to wait outside.
They pulled out their phone and tried to unlock it, but it was a lost cause with their stiff fingers. They messed up their password several times in quick succession, and they decided to just leave it alone. That message wasn’t that important to send. Whatever.
“Oh, dear.”
Whumpee looked up, phone halfway slipped back into their pocket already. A person they didn’t recognise was walking right up to them, gently taking their hands before they could’ve hidden them again. The odd and way too forward action was enough to shock them into not saying a word, letting the stranger rub their skin to warm it up a little.
“It’s very cold out. You shouldn’t walk around without gloves.”
They tried to respond, but it was becoming apparent that maybe it wasn’t only the surprise that made it difficult. They couldn’t think of the words, too distracted by the feeling of cold hands against their own, and the soothing back and forth motion. “I… huh?”
The stranger smiled, careful and practised. “Gloves, dear. You should wear gloves. But it’s alright now, I can help keep you warm while you wait. That’d be nice, right?”
Whumpee felt themself nodding without even thinking about it. They weren’t thinking about anything anymore, really. Why were they standing here in the first place? They had been angry about something, but they couldn’t remember what. It was lucky that they happened to be standing here. Lucky that the stranger had found them.
“All of you seems so cold… It’s really quite concerning.” The stranger reached for the zipper on their coat and pulled it down a little, loosening their scarf to reach underneath it. “Even here… Goodness, you’re freezing…”
Their hands felt delightfully warm now… Their hands that the stranger had warmed up… It was only natural that they let them slowly untangle the scarf too, so they’d have access to the skin underneath and be able to warm that up as well. It felt like they wouldn’t ever feel any warmth again, unless it was through this mysterious person’s touch.
“Let me help,” they murmured, leaning in. Whumpee could feel their warm breath against their neck and they closed their eyes, content to let the stranger do whatever they saw fit.

A team just found their missing member after they were “lost” in the woods for days.
The starvation, dehydration, and exhaustion were expected. The finger shaped bruises the leader caught sight of before being hastily covered up were not.
They insist over and over that they got lost, nothing happened, everything was fine, they would be okay after a good nights rest and something to eat.
But the leader doesn’t believe them, and they know it.

Prompt #7
Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
Masterlist
••••••••••••••••••••••••
I don't think I've ever seen Carbon Monoxide poisoning in whump...
I mean, there's just so much potential!
Characters falling ill with some mysterious sickness, everyone in the house having similar, if not the same symptoms.
Maybe it's just dizziness, fatigue, headaches, muscle aches, and nausea. All things that are inconvenient, and after a certain point, become worrisome and quite concerning but not life threatening and some might just brush off. Maybe if they live alone they think they're over-dramatic or that their age or past experiences are finally getting to them. If they have roommates, maybe they chock it up to food poisoning or seasonal allergies being extra bad or maybe it's all the studying, work, and/or parties. Some could even think it's a virus of some kind.
But it continues to get worse. With things like seizures, hallucinations, and disorientation making a character who lives alone think they're going completely insane or maybe they finally go to the hospital because y'know. Seizures. If they're roommates, then wow, that's some bad food poisoning. Or they've been having some awful trips lately.
Anyway, eventually if nothings done about it, it can leave a character or two comatose or even eventually dead.
Just seems quite whumpy and with a ton of potential. Whether it's a sickfic, environmental whump, etc.
Not to mention; what about a recovering whumpee? What or who are they hallucinating? This sure would make physical and mental recovery a hell of a lot harder. Especially when the caretaker is extremely ill and experiencing similar symptoms as the whumpee.
Would be a shame if this happened to your poor recovering blorbos :(
