Challenging Destiny chapter 20
Toby finally gets the courage to apologise to Strickler for using rule three on him, after an ingredient to destroy the Genesis Seals calls for tears of a father. Only for Strickler to already have been expecting him...
Aja and Krel interrupt in order to ask advice about the mission the following day to retake Akiridion-5. And from there they gather a team.
I am so happy that I've reached chapter 20, fingers crossed I can finish this in under two years lol.

I'm rewatching trollhunters and just got to 3x7, and it never fails to make me emotional. Like, the opening flashback of Merlin making the amulet (especially the scene of Morgan's hand sinking into the cauldron. it's amazing, actually),
And all the parallels!
Angor Rot convincing Gunmar to let Draal live because what he said reminded him of his time obeying Strickler, Draal saying "don't make it weird" when he offered Jim a hand up just like when Jim first spared Draal after their fight,
AND MY FAVORITE ONE: the parallel to Kanjagar's death, with his son dying in the same pose as his father as he falls off a ledge, presumably smashing into pieces on the ground. It's just so ajdjsjsnfi

If Jim had any sword or parkour skills before the event of Trollhunters begun, guy would be an absolute menace. Sword training is self explanatory as he wouldn't be so awkward when wielding Daylight blade. Jim could also adjust and adapt his fighting style if the situation calls for it.
Too bad the Amulet can't change into different swords at least cause imagine the possibilities. A butterfly sword for swift strikes or a claymore to deal heavy powerful blows. Really depends on how creative and adaptable Jim can be.
Now parkour would make it very difficult for opponents to land a hit. The environment is Jim's playground to maneuver, travel or utilize especially if he has a firm grasp of buildering(building climbing). Even better if he has climbing tools such as shuuto spikes on hand.
The more Jim can utilize the area around him, the least likely an opponent such as Angor Rot can land a hit. Use wall decorations to climb higher, poles for quick turnarounds in mid run, and rocks become makeshift shields. Sometimes being a slippery bastard pays off especially with a coup de grace ready to execute.
That's my opinion anyway.

Y/n sat on the floor and observed Vendel work on her mother's injuries. She sighed. If only she could be the master wizard that Al insisted she was, her mother wouldn’t be in this situation.
“We’ll have to move her to the heart stone” Vendel turned to Y/n before starting to fix Strickler's wounds.
She nodded “She can’t heal like this can she?”
“No. She can’t” Vendel answered.
“Is there something we can do about the spell?” She asked.
“I’m afraid not. It’s Gumm-Gumm magic and thus, I don’t know the proper incantation” Vendel explained.
Y/n sighed again and walked to Strickler. He was lucky she didn’t remember her magic training
“I know you know how to break this spell. For your own good, I suggest you help out because I will find a way to break the spell and then your spine” she whispered to the changeling.
He didn’t answer. He only nodded.
Y/n looked back at Vendel, the troll was looking at her with his eyebrows raised “Our sessions are working”
Y/n ignored him and followed her mother to the heart stone.
-
“So, when you and your friends said you were going camping…” Barbara asked.
“We were getting a Triumbric stone from a place called Gatto’s Keep” Jim fixed his mother’s blanket.
“Right. And when Steve crashed his vespa?”
“Vulture troll…?” Y/n answered. She was sitting at the feet of the bed made of stone.
“And your guidance counselor?”
Y/n and Jim looked at each other.
“Blinky” Jim sighed “He does give me a lot of guidance”
Y/n smiled.
“I just can’t. It’s just…too much” Barbara’s voice was shaking “You really shouldn’t be putting yourself in danger like this. I'm your mother. I protect you, that’s the deal”
“I’m fine, mom. You don’t need to protect me. I think this is what I was meant to do” Jim took out the amulet and put on his armor.
“Woah” Barbara was blinded by the lights coming out of Jim.
“I should’ve told you sooner. Maybe none of this would have happened”
“You’re supposed to be able to tell me anything” Barbara sniffled and put his hand on top of the amulet in Jim’s chest. The armor disappeared.
“I never should have lied to you” Jim said.
Y/n looked down. She was making the same mistake her brother did. She should be able to tell their mother about what had been going on with her but something inside wouldn’t let her.
“Jim? A word?” Vendel interrupted.
Jim kissed her mother’s forehead and left the room to talk to Vendel.
Barbara looked at her daughter. Y/n smiled at her mother and laid down next to her.
“I’m sorry” Y/n whispered into her mother’s arm.
“You’re still kids” Barbara brushed Y/n’s hair with her hand “It’s too much responsibility”
Tears fell from Y/n’s eyes. She had never felt like a kid. She had always felt like something older than an adult, especially since Jim found the amulet and listening to her mother say that she was a kid made that uneasiness more heavy. She wondered if she ever felt like a kid back in her old life
Barbara grabbed Y/n’s hand and whimpered.
“Mom?” With her free hand she whipped the tears away
“It’s…okay” Barbara whispered.
“It’s not” Y/n grabbed her mother’s hand with both her hands and closed her eyes. She took her mother’s hand to her forehead and took a deep breath. A red lighting exploded in her head, the memory of an old spell came back to her.
“How are you doing it?” Barbara asked, her voice stronger than before.
“Doesn’t matter” Y/n opened her eyes and smiled.
Jim and Vendel came back and they brought Strickler and Blinky with them.
Strickler ran to hold Barbara's other hand.
“Thank you for doing this for me” Jim said from behind Y/n.
“I’m doing it for her” Strickler answered.
‘Too late to play Romeo’ Y/n thought.
A small portal opened and through it, the shadow staff came flying stabbing a piece of paper to the wall.
“The incantation” screamed Blinky grabbing the shadow staff
“But where are Toby and Claire?” Screamed Jim.
“We must prepare the conjuration at once!” Vendel grabbed the paper and read the incantation “Oh, it seems there is another problem”
“What?” Y/n let go of her mother’s hand and walked to Vendel
“What do you mean there’s another problem?” Jim complained.
Y/n took the paper from Vendel’s hands and read it.
“Oh” she said
“What is it?” Jim asked.
“When they severed the bond between mom and Strickler she’ll lose some of her memory” Y/n explained.
“What are you saying? I’m going to forget TrollMarket? That Jim is the trollhunter?” Barbara asked.
“I’ll leave you with a moment of privacy” Vendel took back the incantation and Strickler before leaving “then we should enact the conjuration”
“Guess we’re gonna have to have this conversation again” Jim said from the left side of the bed.
Barbara took their children’s hand “Jim, Y/n, listen to me. Promise me we will. Okay? It took all of this for you to tell me about” she winces “your other life”
“I just didn’t want to worry you and I know I have” Jim said
“Yes, yes, you have. I am worried. I’m scared. But listen to me. It is my job to worry. And it’s not your job to protect me. I want you to know something. Even before you found this amulet..way before all of this you were always my hero. My beautiful children” the three of them hugged.
The door opened. Vendel and Strickler were back.
“The time has come, '' Vendel had a yellow crystal in his hands “place your hands upon the gemstone”
Barbara lifted her hand.
Before Strickler could do the same he tried to apologize “Barbara, I..”
“Don’t talk to me. You’re the one thing I’m looking forward to forgetting” she looked away
Vendel recited the incantation.
“Jim, promise me. After this is over don’t keep your trollhunting a secret from me anymore. Promise me” Barbara asked one last time.
Yellow lighting traveled through Barbara’s arm back to the stone and from the stone to Strickler’s arm.
Y/n felt the magic travel through trollmarket. The spell was a powerful one and the magic it took to undo it was even more powerful.
“Forgive me, Barbara” he grunted.
“Jim promise me” Barbara pleaded.
Jim nodded.
Jim and Y/n sat in the emergency room next to her mother’s bed.
“She’ll be safe here” Y/n whispered.
Jim nodded
“I’m going to the bathroom” Jim stood up from the chair he was sharing with her sister and tucked her mother up. He was going to leave the room but
“Jim? Is that you?” Barbara woke up “Honey what happened?”
Y/n stood up and walked to her mother’s bed.
“Hi, mom” she moved her hair from her face. She turned to her brother and saw him looking down at his amulet.
“Something happened last night. Something you can’t tell anyone” Jim walked back to the bed.
“What is it? Why do you look so worried?” She turned to see him more closely.
“Well… uh…there was…an accident” Jim put back the amulet in his back pocket “you fainted, you bumped your head. I drove you here”
Y/n sighed “Mom…” Jim looked at her sister. His eyes pleading her to lie for him “I’m sorry. I should’ve been there”
“My hero” Barbara smiled and put his hand on Jim’s cheek “I know there are things going on with you, Jim. Things you don’t want to tell me.”
“There are? I mean you do?” Jim pulled back
“Well, sure, you’re sixteen. You have your own life. I just want you to know…there’s nothing you can’t share with me. Whatever it is, I can take it”
Jim looked at her sister. Y/n didn’t say anything. It was Jim's secret. She couldn’t choose for him. Jim looked back at her mother and smiled.
“I know you can”
Y/n sat in the cold hospital room looking at her mother sleep. Their mother was no longer in immediate danger. And maybe Jim was right, if Barbara knew about the secret they’ve been keeping it will only put her in more danger.
Y/n’s eyes started to close when her phone woke her up. It was Toby. Y/n stepped out of the room to take the call. She was closing the door when Toby’s words reached her ears “Jim went to the Darklands” She made the boy repeat those exact words a couple times still unable to understand when she hung up.
Y/n started to walk, without a destination in mind, she just wanted to get out. Out of this feeling. Out of this anxiety she’s been feeling. The air was getting stuck in her lungs and suddenly, she couldn’t breathe.
Y/n grabbed the pole of one of the lights and with the other hand grabbed her chest, her nails trying to pry it open and let the air in. She slowly sat down, tears pouring out of her eyes. She wasn’t sure when she started crying but her shirt was already soaked.
She sat there, her eyes set on Benoit's neon sign, too nervous to look anywhere else. She closed her eyes and tried to repel the thoughts of Jim in the Darklands, Jim fighting Gunmar, Jim being torn apart by Gunmar.
“Y/n?”
She opened her eyes and saw Douxie, he was crouching next to her. She didn’t hear him get close. The sadness in his eyes made her start to cry again
“Darling, what’s going on?” Douxie sat next to her and put his arm around her shoulders.
She just nodded, the words didn’t want to come out.
“It’s okay. Take your time” he rubbed her back.
“My mother is in the hospital” she was able to say after a while.
“Is everything okay? I mean…”
“Yes…she’s alright” she interrupted “She’ll be able to come home tomorrow” Tears started to fall again at the thought of Jim not being there tomorrow.
“It’s okay” Douxie hugged her “You can stay with me until you have to pick your mother up” he offered without letting her go.
“Oh, no” she pulled apart and cleaned the tears with her sleeve “I don’t want to bother. Really. I’ll be fine”
“You’re more than welcome” he kissed her forehead “c'mon. Follow me” he stood up and stretched his arm.
She followed him. She followed him anywhere.
“C’mon in” Douxie closed the door behind Y/n “It’s a little bit messy, sorry”
Y/n frowned. The room wasn’t messy and she lived with a sixteen year old boy if someone knew messy it was her.
“Let’s sit” Douxie took her by the shoulders and guided her to the couch “Do you want some tea?”
“Sure” Y/n sat down and listened to Douxie put the kettle on the stove.
Y/n looked around, the living room wasn’t big but it was big enough.
“Do you feel better?” He sat next to her.
She nodded. She didn’t want to talk. She was afraid to make him uncomfortable. And, if she was honest, she wouldn't be able to return home tonight.
“Y/n?”
She turned to him.
“Are you sure you’re alright?” He grabbed her hand from her lap.
“Yeah. I’m cried out” she smiled.
It wasn’t a lie. The sadness was there but she didn’t have any more tears.
“It must be hard. You and…fuzz buckets…Jim” Douxie stood up “Where is he? We should g…”
“No!” Y/n said firmy.
Douxie looked back alarmed.
“Sorry. No” she said softly “He at Toby’s. At his best friend's house. I thought it would be better for him” she smiled.
Maybe if she repeated it enough, maybe if she thought it enough it would be true. Jim would appear at Toby’s house and his escape to the Darklands would be just a bad dream.
“That’s nice. Maybe that would take his mind off it” he sat back down.
Y/n nodded.
“Is there something I can do to keep your mind out of this bad place?” He took her hand back.
Y/n looked back at him, he looked sincere. He always looked sincere when he was talking to her. Maybe she was overreacting. Maybe the conversation he had the other day wasn’t about her. If he didn’t want her he wouldn’t had invited her to his house.
“Hey? Where you go?” He smiled.
“Can…can I ask you something?” She looked down
Douxie nodded.
“Do you think I’m annoying?” She didn’t want to look at his face, scared of what he might say.
He squeezed her hand “Where did you get that?” He sounded offended.
“Well…this is stupid…the other day I heard you talking with your friend and she said something about a boundary and I thought…”
“Darling, no. I would never. I was talking about my boss. Is that why you were mad the other day at the store? I would never…” he lifted her chin so she could look him into his eyes “I would never get tired of you…never”
Relief washed all over her. The sincerity that was always in Douxie's eyes was still there.
“You must think I'm a weirdo now” she looked down.
Douxie got a little closer making her look back at him “Never” and quickly close the distance between them. His right hand that was on top of Y/n’s hands got to her cheek, with his thumb wiping away the tears falling from her eyes.
Y/n grabbed Douxie’s shirt in an attempt to get him closer. She imagined kissing Douxie a thousand times but nothing could prepare her for what it actually was. She didn’t have words to explain what he was making her feel.
The kettle whistled making them separate.
“I should get that before…you know…” Douxie pointed to the kettle, his eyes still focused on Y/n.
She nodded.
Douxie disappeared into the kitchen and Y/n let herself fall into the couch, a big smile on her face.
Bonus:
“How about a tour?” Douxie put down his cup.
“Sure” Y/n chuckled.
“Over here is the couch where Arch and I watch TV and eat. Well, I eat, he hasn't been allowed to eat here since the ‘incident’ ” He whispered the last part. Y/n smiled. She remembered the picture Douxie had sent her after Archie ate a can of tuna on the couch smearing it all over the brown leather.
“That’s Archie’s corner” on the left side of the room, next to a window, there was a big cat tree that seemed new except for one of the small poles. “And that’s the guitar and books corner” on the other side, he had two electric guitars and an acoustic one.
“You really didn’t need all those strings” Y/n she laughed.
“Huuh” Douxie blushed.
Y/n smiled and walked to the small library next to the guitars. On top of the library he had three pictures: one of an annoyed Archie in a suit, one of him and Archie in a city that Y/n didn’t recognise and the last one, the one that caught Y/n eyes, it a was an old picture of a couple in Machu Picchu, the quality was so low that you couldn’t see the couple’s faces, the man looked like Douxie.
“Are these your parents?” Y/n lifted the frame from its place. She caressed the frame. “They looked happy”
“They were” he smiled. Douxie walked up to Y/n and kissed her head “They were”
“I’m sorry. I didn’t…” Y/n looked up to Douxie. He was looking at her and smiling.
“You have beautiful eyes” he whispered.
“You too” she put the frame back without taking her eyes off him.

A/n: Hello hello. I’m back and I’m sad. My dog died. All words escape me this days so that’s why I didn’t update I’m sorry.
I really like how this chapter turned out. I like writing more out my head than rewriting something I’m seeing if that makes sense hshshs.
Anyway, hope you like it and hug your pets for me tonight 💖

(from this trollhunters meme; thank you for the ask!)
3.) favorite non-human character?
not 2 b basic but i think i do have to say strickman lol.* not as much as he was three years ago…but i do. stinky bastard rock man. zesty tormented purely marshmallow-fluff monster. god, i really had a whole backstory for him 🙈
*obviously if u think the order is not human then the answer is the order, duh, 1000 times duh. but for me. i mean. look at them. they're Literally Just Some Guys!
15.) most heartbreaking scene in wizards?
NO don't make me be basic on main… well. sorry not sorry. bellroc right after getting blinded ;___; yeah yeah big bad evil yeah yeah they veer right back to full-throttle anger right after but there's just—those few seconds of their armor eyes flicking back and forth, man! the little glimpse of something vulnerable behind the dread, terrible façade! i hate everything about this stupid mortal world, they said, caringly! stupid horrible bastard bird light of my heart joy of my life
30.) something i would change about wizards
god. god. those of you who have been playing along at home may have picked up that i think the arcane order deserved a little…better. at least more nuanced treatment. (especially as villains in a GUILLERMO DEL TORO PROPERTY…) but like!! it's so frustrating because the threads are there, right.
nari, a character we are supposed to sympathize with, never says the order was wrong.
she also only says what the order did "was not worth it" -after- bellroc is blinded.
are the order WRONG about the balance of magic/mundane being off?
multiple villains in both trollhunters (bular, strickler, angor rot) AND 3below (kubritz, tronos madu) are either are offered the chance to change, or are at least portrayed with SOME level of sympathy
but a combination of 1.) rushed and 2.) bad writing in wizards means we just got left with !!! NOTHIN. as much as it physically pains me to acknowledge rott: even at the end, once they've lost the only other things in the world like them, bellroc still offers jim mercy. how do you get that one thing so right and then fumble the entire rest of everything so badly, lol

Ok so my sister has a theory about Angor Rot
(Mind you shes 7)
We just finished Trollhunters and was started watching 3 Below again and my sister pointed out how similiar Angor Rot’s eyes (or rather eye heh) is to the Akiridians. Especially Aja and Krel’s mom Coranda. I know its a stretch but my sister also brought up how Jim turned into a Troll through a spell/potion thingy so what if Merlin had “tested” it on someone else to see if it would work and that lab rat was Angor and he turned into a troll. And Angor doesnt have 4 arms like Coranda but he could be from house Akrom but distantly or possibly not related to Coranda but has the horns like her. If you look at Akiridian eyes and Angors there is a lot of similiarity too. For being 7 my sister did come up with a fairly decent theory tbh

I just had to jot down some thoughts because I am on an Until Dawn/Trollhunters spiral (as if anybody can't tell from this commission lol. On a side note, I don't know if I've said it upfront before, but seriously, @undeadchestnut is such a great person to work with if you're looking for artists to visualize your art ideas, would HIGHLY recommend!) I love them both so much, and Angor and Josh both deserved SO much justice and I know I don't usually do a lot of talking here, and I know this crossover is obscure and strange and probably not interesting to most, but screw it, here's a crossover idea dump because I'm always emotional over these two (Mostly Josh right now, but I love them both equally)
◉ Josh being saved from the mines BEFORE dying or transforming into a bloodthirsty monster because seriously, screw those endings. I don't have an answer for why or how Trollhunters would end up there, but they could save his ass with ease.
◉ Jim and Josh being #TeamDaddyIssues, Jim sharing his absurd amount of troll dads because god knows Josh needs a non-neglectful father figure in his life too (Parental figure in general, for that matter. Can't believe the Washingtons ignored their last living child for so long that he could set up his revenge prank with literally nobody noticing. smh)
◉ Barbara helping Josh get over his anxiety/mistrust of doctors and the medical system, especially after those downright cruel Dr. Hill hallucinations, and getting him the medication he needs
◉ Jim and co. being a supportive friend group??? That don't fight 24/7 and bully each other to literal death????? Revolutionary.
◉ Claire accidentally becoming like a reminder of his sisters in Josh's eyes (because she definitely has Beth energy, don't @ me, you can't deny it) and Josh having to work through a lot of the Complicated Grief Feelings he's been pushing down for a damn year, but he can do that in a safe environment this time because the Trollhunters kids are a ✨Supportive Friend Group✨
◉ Sam, Chris, and Josh ditching the rest of their toxic-ass, shitstain friends in favour of the ✨Supportive Friend Group✨
◉ Barbara helping Josh get over his anxiety/mistrust of doctors and the medical system, especially after those downright cruel Dr. Hill hallucinations, and getting him the medication he needs
◉ Angor Rot and Josh both being able to relate to the whole "Most people I've ever placed my trust in ended up betraying me" vibe, but Angor being more mature and knowledgeable (and having a better understanding of actual friendship thanks to the Trollhunters gang) would have to work it into Josh's head that no, bullying each other and hating 90% of your friend group is actually NOT normal, healthy, or a stable way to keep relationships lmao. "Revenge-pranking" and ignoring the actual issue to get over your survivor's guilt and severe hatred is actually Not A Great Remedy, Joshua.
◉ The Trollhunters gang canonically enjoys horror movies, if I remember correctly, so Josh's dad being a famous horror director and the special effects/production skills Josh learned from that could be a fun thing they might all bond over.
◉ On the opposite side of that, the absolutely chaotic pranks Josh and NotEnrique could pull off together with their combined intelligence and thirst for chaos would be off-the-charts wildness. Josh and NotEnrique would be AMAZING friends.
◉ I'd say they'd start a Youtube prank channel together, but given that Josh's prank history is like a more extreme version of the Sam Pepper "Best Friend Murder" prank, that might not go over so well publicly lmfao
◉ Barbara helping Josh get over his anxiety/mistrust of doctors and the medical system, especially after those downright cruel Dr. Hill hallucinations, and getting him the medication he needs
◉ Sam and Claire bonding over their boyfriends' past "i mUsT bEaR mY pAiN aLoNe" idiocy
◉ Sam also lowkey being horrified at how much the Trollhunter kids have had to put up with too. "WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU FOUGHT IN A MAGICAL WAR AT 16?!"
◉ I don't know what Chris might do in the group tbh, but him and Toby sharing the whole "nerdass dork, ride-or-die best friend" role makes me smile. They'd support their bros together, I guess. 😛 (I could see Chris joining in with Josh and NotEnrique's milder hijinks, but he's too much of a mom friend to go as extreme as those two would be willing to)
◉ At that point, Biggest Mom Friend Samantha would have to reel in their craziness and give 'em a good scolding lmfao

Au where Merlin shows up earlier/gets more development for the potential au ask game?
YES!!!!!
I can’t believe I got both of my blorbos!
I’m so happy right now.
Tumblr media
Anyways:
I’m not really doing the former, but I might write a fic in the future. For now, here’s a post about it that I think is gold.
For the latter part, he’s definitely getting more screentime in Emerald Embers considering he’s. The y’know, protagonist.
But besides his redesign, he gets a lot more development as a character and backstory 👀, so here’s five facts about that!
1. DR!Merlin’s personality is similar and different to Canon!Merlin’s.
What he is compared to Canon!Merlin: He’s abrasive, brutally honest, sarcastic, etc. His appearance, however, makes him seem a lot rougher in comparison to canon!Merljn, where he seems like just a grumpy old man.
He also is smart and perceptive as hell. No one, in-universe or out talks about it, but he was able to tell that Angor Rot was a slave within a few seconds of just seeing him. “Leave them alone, Morgana.”
What he isn’t: he’s not impulsive.
A millennia year old warrior should have patience, and he does. He absolutely refuses to fight children.
He’s more openly soft, especially with children.
He is tired.
He will keep fighting. He will keep fighting if he has to scream, claw, and bite his way to victory. He is hope, who spits out blood and gets up for another round. Again and again and again.
He will not let others go through the same pain he has. He won’t. He can’t.
2. HE GETS TO BE BADASS LIKE HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN!!!
I’ll go on a rant about this in the future, but to say the least, canon did not do him justice.
How am I going to fix this, you ask?
Well, some changes include:
He's actually badass like canon described him before he showed up.
illustrated with some memes I made because look at him!!! He actually looks cool!!! He looks intimidating!!!
him being able to shift his staff into different weapons like he does in the concept art.
3. He’s a cambion like he is in the Arthurian Legends.
powers like
He actually has visions, foresight, precognition, whatever you want to to call it, instead of only the time map (or in the comics, the Omniscienstone) like canon.
He still has the time map; he mainly uses it when he needs to quickly see the future.
4. He’s a bit of a rebel when it comes to authority.
5. He tends to gravitate towards his magical side.
With humans, he has to barely use his magic so he won’t frighten them. With humans, he has to hide his love of magic, and his excitement of learning new things about it.
With magical creatures,
But they believe him.
They don’t care about that. They aren’t racist towards him because he’s magic and they believe him about being aroace.
Because they’re different! They’re nice!
Thanks for the ask!

Behind the Screen: Black voice actors who bring fictional librarians to life!
Tumblr media
From left to right: Harriet D. Foy, Regi Davis, Chris Jai Alex, Ike Imadi, and Kimberly D. Brooks
Part of understanding fictional librarians is understanding those behind the screen, especially when it comes to anime and animation. [1] I plan to do more posts like this if I find additional fictional librarians, so this post is the beginning of what I call the "Behind the Screen" series, hopefully getting some interviews with some of these voice actors too. I'm starting with Black voice actors in this first part of the series.
This post is reprinted from Pop Culture Library Review and Wayback Machine.
About the voice actors
Perhaps the most prominent Black voice of an animated librarian is Harriett D. Foy. She steals the show with the chief librarian of the Stanza, named Clara Rhone in Welcome to the Wayne. Foy is known for roles on Broadway, television, film, regional plays, regional musicals, and concerts. Rhone was her first animated role.
Just as powerful is Ike Amadi, a Nigerian man who voices a librarian named voices Cagliostro in a What If...? episode ("What If... Doctor Strange Lost His Heart Instead of His Hands?"). Imadi has voiced characters like Agency Boss / Subquatos in Kid Cosmic, Officer Mantus / Platoon Sergeant in Love, Death & Robots, Angor Rot and Detective Scott in Tales of Arcadia, to name a few.
Most curious of all, in terms of Black people voicing animated librarians is Kimberly Brooks, also known as Kimberly D. Brooks. She voices an uptight librarian in a DC Super Hero Girls episode ("#SoulSisters Part 2"). Apart from voicing Elephant Grandma in The Cuphead Show!, she voiced characters such as Sky Young in Arcane, Teela and Eldress in He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Skara in The Owl House, Amsaja in Cleopatra in Space, Allura in Voltron: Legendary Defender, young Mari in Vixen, and over 10 characters [2] in Steven Universe and Steven Universe Future, most prominently Jasper.
Other Black voice actors include two Black men: Regi Davis as George and Chris Jai Alex as Lance in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. Davis and Alex are seasoned voice actors. Davis has been in countless television, theatre, and film productions. Alex has been working in the entertainment industry since 2005, starting at the bottom. He has voiced at least 40 characters according to Behind the Voice Actors. [3]

As I wrote in my review of Welcome to the Wayne, Clara Rhone is one of the "very few librarians of color in popular culture" and works with others at the library, emphasizing the value of these institutions as places of knowledge and understanding. Clara also has a granddaughter named Goodness, who is a library ninja, and is voiced by another Black woman: Charnele Crick.
Just as striking of a character is Cagliostro in What If...?. As I wrote in my review of that episode, he masquerades under the name "O'Bengh," and runs the Lost Library of Cagliostro, a library-temple. He tries to the best of his ability to help Doctor Strange, as he "grows out of control." He attempts to warn Strange but is unsuccessful and ends up dying in the library, taking on a number of roles in the episode at the same time: all-knowing person, a medic, and a sorcerer, while happening to be the only librarian. It is unfortunate that he is never shown outside the library.
The librarian that Brooks voices is interesting, as the unnamed librarian in the DC Super Hero Girls episode is uptight. I suppose this makes the character interesting and gives more life to it, but the character is very stereotypical and straight-lace. She voices two characters in that episode: Bumblebee and the Librarian, according to IMDB. One day, if possible, I'd like to ask her about that character.
Then there's George and Lance in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. Both call themselves historians but they run a family library. They help the protagonists Adora, Glimmer, and Bow translate an ancient message and keep their library open for as long as they can, before abandoning it. Even then, they provide vital information which helps Adora and her friends stop the vile Horde from destroying the world and universe.

Howdy Limey!!
I'm so glad you enjoy my London Gods au enough to want to dabble with it, please feel free to have fun with it however you'd like! Your s/I sounds cool, roaming around searching the skies and reflections of skies in dirty rain puddles.... how mysterious!!! Speaking of the au, if you're curious, I've uploaded a second installment revealing what I assigned the four Holmes siblings.
I really loved your answers for Avon and Aniketos! I tie my identity to both the ocean and the woods, so reading that really resonated with me- I see it resonates with you too! Have you ever thought about what your other f/os would be, regarding ancient gods?
Skipper @tex-treasures
hiya Skipper~! eheheheh I'm glad you like my s/i managing to settle into London Gods AU. moving around the games that these larger gods play because they've got their own machination to follow, as ominous as their role might be in the end of the universe. besides, their chase with the Moon is a fun game for both of them - will their Moon be in a puddle reflection or the blink of an eye in a passer-by? whenever he's found, it'll be Hati's turn to run. it turns out the consuming of another can take multiple levels, and these two enjoy their game of tag.
for other F/Os, there's a fair range to be found:
Rex - Tāwhirimātea/Tawhiri of Maōri mythology! God of wind and storms, he once waged war against his siblings, accompanied by an army of cloud and rain spirits, until finally he accepted defeat as he couldn't fell his last brother. While Rex was born and raised in war, he knows when the war is right and just, as Tawhiri did (since he didn't start the war until he felt his brothers pushing into his domain). He has also had to fight his brothers, fellow clones, when Order 66 came through, and he knew when to pull away.
Angor Rot - Wepwawet, a god of funerals, war and passage to the underworld from Egyptian mythology. His brother is Anubis, god of the Underworld, and he leads the way for armies to achieve victory. Granted, when Angor became the sword for Morgana to achieve her victory, this was perhaps not the destiny he desired. He is cunning and well-versed in the ways of war and fighting, especially when it comes down to hunting for his opponent.
Viktor - Apollo, greek god of intelligence and education. Certainly makes for an apt fit for Viktor, bursting with bright ideas and constantly pushing himself and his fellows to achieve greatness (see how he helped muster Jayce when all seemed lost). It becomes irony that Apollo is also the god of disease - imagine having one's body waste away from something you should be able to control.
Alucard - Khors, a Slavic god of not quite fully known placement, other than he is often mentioned in mythological text. To some he is a sun god - radiant, able to travel at such speed as to outpace the sun itself. To others, a moon god - dark and dangerous, traveling as a wolf under the shadow of night. As one can see, this fits Alucard pretty well.

The most chaotic and funniest thought just hit me.
Mario and Tales of Arcadia could exist in the same universe.
Let me explain. The Super Mario franchise had their own cartoon in the 90s called the Super Mario Brothers Super Show. In it, the brothers can travel between Brooklyn and the Mushroom Kingdom via a green warp pipe located somewhere in the sewer systems.
Basically no one else knew about this pipe nor the hidden universe(I'll call the Mario World we know as the Hidden World from this point afterwards) except the Mario Brothers. Then you also consider there is more than one warp pipe. And thus this glorious idea.
For setup, the Hidden World could be considered the Promised Land to all Trollkind. A realm where sunlight nor lack of being near a Heartstone DOESN'T turn them to stone and bears many treasures of peculiar power but also a potential second home should their realm fall apart i.e what will become the Darklands.
Some trolls left to seek out the Hidden World but never came back. There had been only one account of someone finding the mythical 'Green Channel' that leads there. However the troll discoverer in question was branded as a liar and label an outcast. This explorer writes a journal of his experiences before eventually disappearing. 'Beginner's Guide To The Hidden World' was the only thing left as no one knew the writer's fate.
A book of a madman's ramblings and gone unfound inside Arcadia's Trollmarket until the first human Trollhunter been made. You don't expect Jim or Toby to not look through the books in Blinky's library especially if a problem arises. It bonks the poor Trollhunter on the head and our favorite book troll practically flips out once he sees the guide.
Whether the major plot point is such as Battle of Two Bridges, find Gunmar's weakness or handle Angor Rot, it doesn't take much convincing to look into this Hidden World. Now since sewers weren't prevalent in the middle ages, no Troll thought the 'Green Channel' could be a giant sewer pipe. Modern human thinking leads to Team Trollhunters rediscovering the Hidden World and it's unique flavor of insanity.
(Jim seriously needs a huge break from being the universe's drama dump. Why not throw a very long overdue albeit super goofy bone? Plus I know some of you guys want to see Draal put on a Cat Bell, Jim in a Tanuki Suit and Toby in a Penguin Suit.)
Now for some worldbuilding!
Trolls born in the Hidden World have natural immunity to sunlight. An occurrence that is half adaptation and half magic revelant. They can also survive without the presence of a Heartstone but are unable to use powers up unless they return or have a special item.
It takes four hits to make a Hidden World troll lose their active power up, two for Changelings and three for a normal troll. Although those who possess the Amulet of Daylight, like Jim, can take four hits no matter the species. They have a major kingdom located somewhere near the Seaside Kingdom known as Stoneheart and are neutral territory. Koopa Troopas are considered rivals specifically the royal ones like Bowser.
Trolls came up with 'Action Filming', a maybe Mario canon(my memory is rusty) where the games/series is a play while the characters are actors and friends offscreen. You know they would make a concept like that as they're still a warrior based race.
Quite friendly to outsiders and visitors, a good chunk of Hidden World trolls are travelling freelancers in their own expertise. The most common are traders, bodyguards, to of course any occupation that revolves around geology or architecture. Gunmar is considered the Hidden World Trolls' Boogeyman, a story to teach young whelps to behave.
If proven real then Jim definitely has an army willing to help him out as major threats are taken quite seriously in the Hidden World. I can say that Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga, Partners in Time, and Bowser's Inside Story are the only games mostly based on true events. You can't expect three major incidents that affected three different kingdoms, ESPECIALLY their royalty, weren't taken seriously nor have a huge impact on everyone else.
Hidden World Trolls rarely eat cats or any other pet considered animals. I think the reason why they limit themselves in canon is because a missing cat ain't gonna draw major attention unlike cattle and other farm animals. Although I bet a grocery store that accepts or can keep trolls' existence a secret would be a godsend. But yeah, their food options aren't limited in the Hidden World.
Finally for the last bit, there have been some unique adaptations that tend to crop up with Hidden World Trolls. These can range power up based ones such as species with Penguin Suit or Fire Flower traits, environmental like those raised in Lake Lapcat have feline characteristics, to seemingly random ones like shapeshifting. Yep. A natural born Changeling who doesn't need a familiar to transform is a possibility.
That's it for now! Until next time folks, I'll see you at the warp pipe between Arcadia and the Mushroom Kingdom!

The Exorcism of Hisirdoux Nuñez
Krel's never dated before, but he's sure first dates aren't supposed to end in going to your boyfriend's house only for the evil sorceress possessing his body to try and kill you.
The main swaps in here are Jim-Aja, Toby-Krel, Claire-Douxie, and NotEnrique-Archie.
CW: Past child abuse, canon-typical Morgana behavior, and mild blood
AO3
FFN
“Are you sure you’ll be okay?” Aja said, looking down to the staff that Krel had tightly gripped in his hands. It felt odd in his hands, but it only made sense for the staff to feel odd in them. It wasn’t like it was his to begin with. It was Douxie’s, and before that Angor Rot’s. And presumably, long before it had belonged to the assassin, it had belonged to the witch possessing the body of Krel’s boyfriend.
Were they boyfriends? Neither of them had said any codifying words yet, but Krel had confessed his feelings to Douxie as he had brushed the newly white bangs off of Douxie’s still-pale face after he nearly died making a portal at the gyre station. Moreover, tonight had been their first date (and Douxie had even called it a date) until Douxie had gone to the bathroom and came back possessed. Not that Krel had noticed until they had gone back to Douxie’s adoptive parents’ house.
“I’ll be fine,” Krel said, rolling his eyes. All he had to do was hold a stick. Sure, he was the worst at fighting on the team, and Morgana had sent his shield into the Shadow Realm, but he could handle holding a stick. Even if it was an evil stick made of dark magic that had originally belonged to Morgana. “You’re the one going to another dimension.”
Without Krel.
Again.
He tried not to let that sting.
“We should go,” Strickler said, looking down to Aja. “The longer he stays there, the harder it will be to put him back in his body.”
“Stay safe, Master Aja,” Blinky said, glaring at Strickler.
Krel exhaled, extending the staff to its full length. Douxie had said fear was especially useful for making portals. And when Krel had helped to power Douxie’s portal at the gyre station, he had been so afraid that he had barely felt any pain, while the drainage had been sudden enough that Aja had screamed. And so Krel focused on his fear. Fear that his sister would die. Fear that his boyfriend’s soul would be lost forever. A dark portal formed in the far end of the room, and Strickler walked into it, having to crouch down a little because it wasn’t as large as the portals Douxie could make.
“Be quick, because I’m not sure how long I can keep this open,” Krel said, “And if you see my shield…”
Aja squeezed Prince Cat and smiled at him over her shoulder before she disappeared into the Shadow Realm.
“My, my, left behind again,” Morgana said. Her voice still sounded wrong coming from Douxie’s body, but at least she wasn’t trying to do an impression of him anymore. She turned to Blinky. “Your brother betrays you, your student turns from your teaching to that of my changelings, and your partner – why, where is he?”
Blinky growled. “I’m going to go get a gag. Krel, ignore her.” He then left, slamming the door. Krel winced. He had a feeling he was already going to be in trouble with Douxie’s adoptive parents for all the furniture now sucked into the Shadow Realm. He didn’t want any more damage to happen and give Mr. and Mrs. Nuñez even more reason to hate him.
Morgana hummed. “Why, you’re a natural. You handle the staff so well.”
Krel found himself wishing he had brought headphones to his date.
“You know, we’re not so different, you and I.”
He tried to focus on the portal ahead of him.
“I know what it’s like, to always be in the shadow of a sibling. The perfect, golden child, always in the limelight, always getting praised for things that, if you did the same, no one would applaud you for. She finds a rock that gives her a shield, and everyone is excited. You bind a curse to a shield, and at best everyone is nonchalant about it at best.”
Krel swallowed, turning his head a fraction towards her. “How do you know that?”
She shrugged as much as her chains would let her. “I own his essence and mind as well as his body. I went looking through his memories. And is that not an apt description of you? You have so much potential. Potential that is squandered with Merlin’s lot. Potential that I would help you bring to your proper greatness. Isn’t that what you want? To finally be considered greater than your sister?”
Krel tried very hard not to nod.
Morgana smiled at him in a way that almost matched the way Douxie had smiled at Krel so many times before. “All you have to do is give me the staff.”
Aja did not like the Shadow Realm, and she hadn’t even seen much of it, not when she and Mr. Strickler had been dragged to a replica of the Nuñez house by a stuffed cat. Well, at least the emotional connection with the stuffed animal given to him by his birth mother had worked.
“Be careful, Young Themis,” Mr. Strickler said as Aja tried to turn a light on to no avail. “You don’t know what tricks this house might be playing.”
“But we also need to be prepared for whatever’s here.” Aja picked up a remote and attempted to turn on the television. It sprung to life, but the things it showed should have never been recorded to video. The scenes were all of Douxie, and Aja recognized some of them. She had been there for some of them. The woods. The portal. Finding out that his baby brother Archibald had been replaced by the changeling everyone had gone on to call Archie. The day Aja left for the Darklands.
Between scenes – memories? – from the last year were older memories. Memories of a little boy, born to a single poor mother who died when he was three. Memories of a boy who had been slapped, kicked, and punched around through the foster care system until he was ten.
Beyond the cries coming from the young Douxie on the TV, there were the cries of a baby coming from upstairs.
Archibald.
Aja rushed up the stairs, Mr. Stickler on her heels, to Archibald’s room. The cradle was empty even as cries could still be heard from it. And before Aja could turn to her teacher, the spectral form of Douxie entered the room and pantomimed picking up Archibald, saying words of comfort to the infant that wasn’t even there.
“Morgana must have trapped him in his own memories,” Mr. Strickler said. “It would be a clever way of keeping him from fighting back and trying to reclaim his body.”
Aja tried to grab Douxie by the arm, but her fingers slipped through him. “Well, how do we get him to see us?”
Morgana’s offer was tempting. After all, how long had Krel just been “Aja’s little brother” instead of everyone viewing him as his own person, great for his own achievements?
“I would just need to drop the staff?”
Morgana nodded, smiling what should have been an encouraging smile. But that face had given so many encouraging smiles to Krel before, and those smiles didn’t have so many teeth. Morgana’s supposedly encouraging smile was like a shark’s.
“Shut up,” Krel said. “If you really wanted me on your side, you’d have made this pitch to me sooner, instead of trying to use me as bait for my sister first.”
And as it was, if it weren’t for Archie knocking Morgana out, Krel would have been bait. Morgana had even said so.
“Even you think Aja’s more important than me because she’s the trollhunter, no matter what you say about my potential. Also, yeah, I’m attracted to Douxie’s body, but that’s only because it’s Douxie. I’m demisexual so don’t even think you can seduce me to the side of evil from my boyfriend’s body.”
At that moment, Blinky burst through the door, holding a sock. Morgana growled and swung her head to the portal. Krel held on tight, digging his heels as much as he could into the hardwood floor, but it was no use. He and the staff went flying into the portal, and Krel almost immediately hit a meteor. That impact finally wrenched the staff from his hands, leaving lacerations in its place. Behind him, a light went dark.
Shit. Shit fucking dammit. Groaning, Krel lifted his head, and noticed a blue gem shield nearby. He grabbed it, hissing in pain as the gemstone touched one of his cuts.
Well, at least now he had his shield. It was time to go try and rescue his boyfriend, sister, and former teacher. He flew towards the golden glow of the Shadow Staff.
Tonight was supposed to be good. Douxie had finally gotten over his odd cold, and he had gone to a nice restaurant with Krel. This was supposed to be their first date, and after the restaurant they would have gone on a relaxing walk, and Douxie would have kissed Krel for the first time.
According to Aja, Krel was okay and keeping a portal open, which made Douxie feel even worse. That staff had tainted him. Morgana had made him her puppet. What would she do to his boyfriend? If, of course, Krel still wanted to be his boyfriend after tonight. Even if Douxie regained his body he had no guarantee that Morgana wouldn’t try to use him again. She had even told him that the two of them were linked, essence and mind, now and for all of time. He was a liability to his friends.
Douxie held tightly to Prince Cat as Strickler held onto Aja’s shoulder and incanted something in Trollish. Douxie couldn’t even be touched anymore, and Strickler had only barely convinced Douxie he wasn’t dead yet. He really wanted a hug, though.
The three of them sped to the light of the portal, and then they stopped as it went dark.
“I suppose Krel didn’t have the strength to keep the portal open for long,” Strickler said in a tone that made Douxie angry. For a changeling used to trickery, Strickler didn’t respect Krel’s cunning nearly as much as he should have. As much as anyone should have.
“Or Morgana did something to him!” Aja shouted as she summoned her daggers and hopped onto an asteroid as she began to chase after the Skathe-Hrün. (Because no, Aja, those small knives she used were not glaives. Glaives were polearms. His – the staff was closer to a glaive than what she used.)
Douxie and Strickler began to chase after the Skathe-Hrün as well. Even Strickler flew (flew? When did he get wings?) awkwardly through the Shadow Realm, but Douxie?
Moving through the Shadow Realm felt natural as breathing. More natural because he wasn’t breathing in this spectral form. He twisted and turned, each time just ghosting the staff’s surface. There was something sticky clinging to it. Something that reminded Douxie of blood.
And then he felt a body crash into him, tackling him into an asteroid.
“Douxie?” Krel asked, and he stroked Douxie’s cheek with, strangely enough, the back of his hand. Douxie could smell blood on Krel.
Wait.
Krel stroked Douxie’s cheek.
Krel stroked Douxie’s cheek.
Douxie wrapped his arms around Krel’s non-spectral body, and they didn’t pass through. “I’m sorry,” Krel said. “She was too powerful.”
“I’m sure you tried your best.”
“Hisirdoux?” Strickler said. Douxie wrinkled his nose; he hated his full name. He was fine with his former-surname-turned middle name of Orkney, but why couldn’t his adoptive parents have changed his name from freaking Hisirdoux when they changed his last name to Nuñez? “Are you still with us? Oh, hello, Krel.”
“You got your shield back! Lively!” Aja said.
“No thanks to you,” Krel grumbled, quietly enough for only Douxie to hear. Douxie chuckled softly as he stood up, offering a hand to Krel.
And then Douxie staggered, and Krel had to catch him as Douxie nearly doubled over from the eldritch knowledge that assaulted his mind. “Are you okay?”
Douxie wanted to give Krel some reassurance, even if it was false, but those weren’t the words that spilled from his lips. “Azazazuth-Kinekh-Thoon.”
The glow surrounding the Shadow Staff changed from gold to the same blue violet that made up Douxie’s spectral form.
“Great. Great. He’s speaking in tongues now!” Aja said, turning to Strickler.
“No, I,” Douxie said. He wanted to take a breath right now, but he was pretty sure he had no lungs in this form. “These words. They’re in my head. I think they’re a way to summon the staff!”
“Then summon it!” Strickler ordered.
Douxie firmly planted his feet, reaching out with one hand and holding onto Prince Cat with the other. “Azazazuth-Kinekh-Thoon.”
The staff came a little closer before violently jerking away. Aja and Strickler landed on the asteroid behind him.
“Azazazuth-Kinekh-Thoon.”
This time, the staff came even closer before ricocheting away from him.
“She’s stronger than me,” Douxie lamented, and he felt two arms wrap around his torso from behind.
“She’s an old hag without a body of her own,” Krel said to him “But you’re amazing. I know you can do this.”
“Azazazuth-Kinekh-Thoon,” Douxie incanted. And then he incanted the words again, but this time he could hear Krel chanting them as well.
Krel was wrong. Douxie alone wasn’t strong enough to reclaim the Shadow Staff from Morgana. But the two of them, together?
Krel let go of Douxie, only to step to Douxie’s side and take hold of Douxie’s hand and Prince Cat. Krel looked at Douxie, and there were pinpricks of light in his eyes. “Let’s get your staff and body back.”
“Azazazuth-Kinekh-Thoon!” the two of them shouted. Douxie’s spectral form blazed with light. Two runic circles formed around them, twisting and combining until the Shadow Staff became the epicenter of them, just for a second. Then the Shadow Staff flew to Douxie’s hand. The handle felt more comfortable in his hand than it ever had before.
And when a single spark of gold appeared on the handle, Krel put his other hand on the on the staff, smothering the last of Morgana's control.
“Grab on,” Douxie instructed to Aja and Strickler, and they followed his order before Douxie took them out of the Shadow Realm.
Author’s note: That's right! Shadowmancer boyfriends!
I've played around with the idea of a swap between the trollhunting trio and the side B protagonists trio, but while the Aja-Jim swap has always been a pretty easy decision, I couldn't decide who I wanted to give the Shadow Staff to between Douxie and Krel since they're both associated with portals and I couldn't see either of them wielding the gravity hammer. And then I realized I could make them both wizards while changing the gravity-cursed hammer to a more appropriate weapon.
Themis was a titan and the personification of justice as well as the goddess of wisdom and good counsel, as well as the interpreter of the gods' will. I figured she would be a good stand-in for Atlas in this swap.
Because in canon Claire could touch Jim's spectral form while he couldn't touch hers, I suspect only wizards can touch spirits in the Shadow Realm. Thus, Krel can touch Douxie while Aja and Strickler can't.

Rewatching Trollhunters for the second? Third? Time rn because the last time I watched it was right before Wizards came out in preparation for that... Like I was SO hyped for it and checked Netflix like every day even after we got a release date because that was just how much I couldn't wait for it, like, I was truly hyped out of my mind for another Tales of Arcadia entry, especially because out of the three main concepts of each part in ToA, wizards and sorcerers and cool shit like that definitely speaks to me the most usually, and it was a welcome change after 3below, which, while I love, still revolves around sci-fi which I'm just generally not a huge fan of... Then my worst media consuming habit kicked in and I just? Never ended up watching it because I knew it was the end and I didn't WANT it to end, so if I never watched it I never reached the final episode and it never HAD to end! Which is just, truly a dumb thing that happens to me all the fucking time and I absolutely hate it, ugh
Anyway... There is some stuff I'm only noticing now, and it's rad!
Toby, calling himself War Hammer right from the start?
Nomura's first battle against Jim already having In the Hall of the Mountain King as the background music, not to mention the brief snippets of it even before then when Jim's class is at the museum?
That "joke" about Vendal initially assuming Toby is the Trollhunter, perhaps because he has a much more Troll-like physique?
Toby correctly theorizing that Strickler is a changeling, only for Jim to reply "if he's one, I'm one!" Oof, that one hurt my heart lol
The Elder Council only calls upon Jim when Clair enters Trollmarket for the first time- in other word, once his team is complete. His journey, his acknowledgement by his predecessors, and his accomplishments are all inherently tied to his role as the leader of a Trollhunters TEAM, rather than as a sole Trollhunter working alone, even from the very beginning when Toby encourages him to start the adventure he's been looking for his whole life
Aside from having a thirst for knowledge furthered by her aptitude for learning new languages, another reason Claire is indispensable for the team is that rather than being JUST a hard worker with the luck of being in the right place and the right time to get magical powers and items... She's shown to have a high sensitivity and innate aptitude towards magic and being able to sense and control it even as early as Angor Rot's first encounter with her- She's the only one able to sense his presence! Her inheriting his staff isn't just the classic distribution of battle loot amongst the team according to circumstances, the staff seems to have been her calling just as much as the amulet is Jim's and Toby ending up with a wicked enchanted weapon matching his favorite codename.
Angor Rot seems perturbed by Strickler mentioning his violent and destructive past, which is great early foreshadowing for his last minute heel face turn!
Another minor detail in the characters' facial expressions... Strickler scrunches his face in displeasure whenever others call him "impure"- that slur seems to genuinely upset him, yet he never says anything about it to anyone calling him that- most likely, he's used to it, being called that by denizens of both the darklands and trollmarket his whole life... But Jim and the other humans on the team, and even Barbara never call him that, even after they find out he's a changeling and hear others refer to him as such. Apparently, not constantly being called slurs can be a big plus when only one side does it when you're is conflicted about your loyalties!
Darcy being the mole mascot seems to absolutely be supported when you pay attention to the small background details! Whenever the mascot exits a room, Darcy promptly enters, and when she exits a scene you can later find the mole mascot in her stead!
Strickler seems to be... Learning Spanish in his free time? Genuinely don't know what that means, like, is it a hobby, is it to support some nefarious plan, is he planning on replacing Señor Uhl? Who knows, but he sure as heck can be seen reading a book with the clever title of "Español" in The Shattered King!
"Mr" Blinky telling Barbara Jim's voice should change soon... Yeah ngl this one hurt A LOT

ROTT Thoughts
I know that there's a lot of heat in the TOA fandom and mixed opinions on the ROTT ending and other parts of the movie. Honestly I'm totally cool with everyone whether they enjoyed or disliked all of it, or parts of it, but here are some of my honest opinions. Most importantly, I do NOT condone any attacks on the team that created the movie or anyone with a different opinion.
⚠️ Spoilers and a LOOOOONG post below!
Ok so I'll be completely honest, for the most part, I enjoyed the movie until the very end. I loved the animation and the score and the overall plot with the titans. I loved all the fight scenes with the titans and seeing Nari being a badass!
And of course all the characters arcs minus Mpreg Steve (that was super creepy and ruined Staja in the movie) and I also feel like Eli barely did anything. It just felt like reverse character development for them esp after seeing them grow in the TOA series.
Everyone else was great! I loved seeing Jim lose his confidence after reverting back to a human and no longer having Merlin's amulet and seeing him grow to see himself as a capable hero. Claire was a total badass with her shadow magic! Ofc Jlaire was amazing as always!! I loved seeing Douxie with his cool magic. And the Gun Robot giant was AMAZING!! And the Excalibur scene was fantastic!!
Now I'll get to the death scenes. Each and every one made me an emotional mess! Especially since Nomura and Strickler started out as antagonists and grew so much! And I was excited that Strickler and Barbara were finally getting married (I thought the movie would end with their wedding 😭💔). And Toby's death hit me so hard! I absolutely loved his scene where he went to disable Bellroc's magic! And him dying in sacrifice was so beautiful and emotional.
Now to the end. I absolutely hated it and pretend it never happened. For me it felt like a slap in the face. For me, the TOA series were perfect for the most part! There was so much character development, magnificent plot, lots of adventure, romance and friendship, such an amazing story. And with that ending, it just felt like it threw everything out of the window. Like Jim's the only one who remembers everything, like apparently all TOA was just his dream. But what about everyone else? Like Claire? Their romance and her devotion to Jim? Her growth from a popular girl who tries so hard to please her parents and watching her grow and mature throughout the series and become a badass with shadow magic? Steve growing from a bully to a creepslayer and being with Aja? Eli growing from being bullied to Earth's ambassador on Akiridion 5? Aja and Krel coming to Earth and joining the gang? Douxie joining the gang? Jims friendship with Blinky and Draal?? Toby's friendship with Aaarrrgghh and his beautiful sacrifice to save the world?
Speaking of Toby, I strongly disagree with the whole 'he was nothing more than comic relief an a sidekick to Jim' rhetoric in the fandom. Yes he maybe a comic relief sidekick but he rocks his war hammer and has helped Jim with alot of missions. He helped Jim kill Angor Rot, he found the birthstone, he destroyed the shadow staff, and he shined a lot in 3below too! These are a few of the things he's done but honestly he's the best sidekick and best friend I've seen written in fiction and got so much character development leading up to his sacrifice in ROTT. Yes there are points for improvement but that doesn't deny that he's a badass character! And the ending erased all of that too! I get that him becoming the trollhunter seems 'Toby rights' but I feel that with how the entire show was written, it just went against both Toby and Jim's characters.
Like why would Jim throw all this load on his best friend? Especially after accepting his destiny and responsibility as trollhunter? Why would he throw away his relationship with Claire after all they've been through? There was so much loss throughout the series, like Jim losing Draal, Aja and Krel losing their own parents, Douxie losing Merlin who was his own father-figure?! They were extremely painful but each of them had to move on and grow while still honoring their lost loved ones. I know Tobes was super important to Jim but I feel like he should've been able to grow and move on and honor his friend for the rest of his life. Or for writing purposes, for a happier storyline, maybe the kronosphere could've been used to save Toby and maybe even Strickler and Nomura as well without resetting the whole entire timeline of TOA. Since ROTT was finale for all of TOA, maybe a fast forward to when they rebuilt Arcadia and are finally living happier adult lives would've felt so satisfying, it would symbolize growth and happiness even after the worst apocalypse like the one they were in (Even irl people grow after a war or natural disaster, despite the trauma). But the problem with ending we got was that it not only erased all the events of TOA, but it left us with an indefinite plot hole which was completely unsatisfying and feels like a reverse growth. It left me feeling bitter and empty rather than saying goodbye to my faves on positive note.
Hopefully this clarifies why I (and perhaps others in the fandom) feel very negative about the way it ended. If you've read this far, thank you much for taking the time to read my opinion and rants, and excuse any typos I might have, I typed this on my phone on low sleep lol! 😅
