I need more of Luke and or Leia time traveling to the TCW era and being menaces while also being wildly competent and extremely powerful in the force. Like by the jedi’s standards they are incredibly op. They might not be as powerful as Anakin but depending when they time travel they could either be two kids with massive potential and strength in the force all the way to the grandmaster of the Jedi order that the lost tribe of the sith are terrified of and not only a Jedi master, but a skilled politician who has been sneaking around and getting shit done since she was all of 15.

The point is, the Jedi counsel are tearing their hair out in frustration and confusion while two mystery Jedi who are scarily powerful in the force and (once again depending on how old they are, at least for Luke) both scarily competent. And they came out of nowhere and killed chancellor Palpatine who turned out to be a sith lord?! and then the woman convinced everyone that Bail Organa should be the new chancellor and then her and her brother kidnapped the chosen one and Senator Amidala for mandatory therapy and family bonding.

(In reality they just tell Padme they’re her kids from the future and she grabs Anakin and maybe Ahsoka and whisks off to an isolated part of Naboo where they can hash this all out.)

Ahsoka and Obi-wan go after them but it turns out to be a non-event and Anakin is very hesitantly like this is Ahsoka and Padme jumps in saying she’s like a little sister her and after Luke and Leia get done gaping wondering why they never heard of her Obi-wan starts to introduce himself but Luke is just like “Ben!” And gives him a hug, maybe dropping in a comment about how he has wanted to do that for ages but you can’t exactly touch a force ghost.

Or alternatively they tell no one who they are, and through a series of misunderstandings everyone thinks Luke is Anakin’s older brother who was taken from Shmi when he was really young but he was freed at some point as a teenager and adopted by Leia’s family. (Solo is a pretty common Corellian name and it is mentioned that Luke and Leia met when they were 17 or 18)

This assumption leads to a very awkward Luke who doesn’t know how to deal with Anakin thinking he’s his uncle and eagerly trying to bond. But it does give him a foot in the door to Anakin trusting him and talking to him about all this dark side stuff.

Or alternatively the solo/skywalker kids somehow end up in the past, coming from sometime during the Youzhan Vong war before Anakin (Solo) dies. And they are also strong in the force and for a bunch of kids they are once again scarily competent. (They did after all just come from one of the worst wars the galaxy had faced in a long time and so to them the clone wars, while diffucult could be a whole a worse.) And they just cause absolute mayhem.

i had such a good and interesting characterisation thought re. TK in the context of replying to this ask but i don't remember what it was very clearly and so i'm just. sitting here. trying to trigger the same thought

I find attempted murder plots a lot more fun than actual murder plots unless said murder is the inciting incident for a mystery, honestly. Someone almost getting Murderized and then having to continually evade the person/make sure it doesn’t happen again/generally deal with the consequences of that are always fun

How does one just come back from almost getting murdered by someone who was once your friend? What do you even do at that point when you’re an animatronic who can’t even leave the building?

In the scenario proposed in previous ask, I don’t think Freddy would’ve expected to re-activate, and he’s probably not so dense as to be clueless on Why they tried to kill him.

I can imagine him like giving back the parts and apologizing once everyone’s back to themselves, but he might’ve thought that his friends were permanently Lost by the time he was accepting the parts/put together where the parts were coming from, especially if they’re going so much against their programming to try and hunt down and kill a child.

(Clarity: Not trying to say you’re writing him wrong or anything, just chiming in with how I see him)

Doesn't that make it worse? If he thought they were permanently gone, so much so they would try to kill a child, doesn't that make it worse that none of them could kill him? He looked at them and said they're beyond saving, he thought they would kill this kid no matter what in that state, and when given the chance, the shining moment when they could do the things accused of them, they couldn't do it.

The thing is, does he even know they're virus'd? Does he even know they're gonna kill Gregory? I think with some of their actions, it could be guessed they'd probably hurt him but why would he believe they'd kill? Does he trust them so little he'd jump to that conclusion once they start acting weird?

But this assumption that they'd kill Gregory... isn't it worse if he just assumed they're beyond saving? Yet for some reason, they can apparently save Vanessa? For some reason, he's totally fine? For some reason the only solution is to destroy them? Doesn't it make they fact they couldn't do it to him worse because he'd assumed they could? For assuming all of that and not considering they could be saved, surely if he understands his mistake it just makes everything worse?

Because if you think about it, if he was okay with them being destroyed... what makes him better than what he assumed of them? They couldn't kill him, and yet he was fine with the others possibly being killed. He helped them be destroyed, never sought an alternative solution that could have helped them and assumed they were long gone and beyond saving. Yet, even at their lowest points, even after they have more than enough reason and even after they had Freddy's life completely in their hands like he had theirs, they couldn't do it. They backed out. Or someone stopped them.

Isn't that worse? That they made the decisions they needed him to make? Someone stopped them, like he should have stopped Gregory or someone didn't have the heart to let him die, when he had the heart to let them be destroyed. I can't help but feel that's worse.

#i am going to a referral to have someone look at my blood work #they sent me a dozen pages of paperwork to fill out and want me to bring my will and power of attorney #neither of which do i actually have written out and i am not going to try to put together in just a few days?#it is a consultation #like ok if i were going into the hospital but literally he's supposed to look at my blood cell count #there's not any point where they need to see my legal paperwork?#like medical history ok i understand and i understand wanting to know my medications #but i'm not disrupting my entire life for a consult that may not even be relevant?#like my referring doctor is just guessing at things now she has no idea what's going on #gonna call them and be like sorry i'm not trying to find a lawyer and draw up paperwork in a week while also working #i don't think it's even legal to ask to see someone's will? like what the fuck?#my parent's were being treated for stuff and we had to dig the wills out of my dad's files #nether one had an official power of attorney filed i don't think or medical power of attorney #like how is that your business when i haven't even met the doctor yet and may not even want to deal with your practice?#this thing where medical practitioners just assume you're going to go along with whatever they say is really irksome #like the ct scan place they're like you might be going straight to the hospital if your doctor says so #when at no time was i ever warned or given intimations that that was a possibility?#like what if i had plans? or a pet or a kid? like you have to let people know about things ahead of time?#especially if it's not an emergency?

#y'all it is a weekend of drama apparently #so a few years ago my dad and stepmum and i went to scotland #while there my stepmum kept looking for a skirt with our family tartan but never managed to find one #so for her birthday that year my brother and i bought some wool tartan and had it shipped to canada from scotland #and i hand sewed her a skirt out of it #she genuinely loved the skirt and wore it all the time. all the time!!#in may of this year - my dad and stepmum got married. her parents live in france and her dad is v sick so they couldn't be there in person #so they hired a videographer to film the ceremony so her parents could watch it live from france #they missed the wedding tho bc they had to also attend a baptism that day and my stepmum said not to bother watching the wedding if they #were algo going to go to the baptism (the baptism was at 10am france time and the wedding at 7pm france time they could've done both easy)#but anyways. so stepmum tells her parents not to watch the wedding and cancels the videographer #she's been upset since that happened and every little flaw with the wedding has now made her even more upset #basically- every guest is having their entire lives nitpicked bc my stepmum has decided to find her voice and let people know when they've #upset her. which great! tell people well they've crossed a line! but she's going through like 10+ years and critiquing every little thing #like one time in 2017 i came home with dirty clothes and did my laundry at the house and 'i was taking advantage of them'#or my brother's gf was inconsiderate and rude for wearing shorts around our house (it was 20°C?? everyone was in shorts?)#anyways. my dad said this last week my stepmum has gone through and thrown out everything me or my brother ever gave her #INCLUDING THAT SKIRT I HAND SEWED ESPECIALLY FOR HER #my dad rescued what he could and hid it (luckily rescuing the skirt!) but like. wtf #for the first time my stepmum's name really suits her. she's acting a real Karen rn #and like i know she's upset that her parents couldn't watch the wedding- but that was literally her doing?#and even if they had purposefully chosen to miss it - that doesn't excuse hurting other people bc you're upset #anyways. suffice to say i don't think I'll ever feel comfy in that house ever again #and the search for an apartment out in NL might have to begin sooner than initially planned #I'm not even super upset by this just. baffled by how ridiculous it is?? like it feels like something out of a bad soap opera

Okay it's offical, Jonathan is changing work and I won't see him any more 😔

#miranda talking shit #Janathan is such a special guy like... Truly dog vibes. He can be a little ... Prone to messing up simple things but its impossible to be #Mad at him. And always happy and kind. Hes helped me so much... Like i love oliver and Magnus a hecking lot but Jonathan has been a stable #Help for me and i could rely on him (even if he messed things up haha). I really wish him the best #Im kinda anxious bc hes one of my 3 favorite people who i prefer to come by to help me... Now im down to 2 again and i assume it'll #Lead to having more strangers come by to fill his place /: ive met quite a few different people obviously but none of them ive clicked with #Like oliver/magnus/Jonathan... I mean wilma was my girl but she quit last year 😔 but outside of my worries im glad for him #He deserves good things. I think hes one of the ones that actually like this job a lot. Hes been in the homecare business 80% of his work #And hes said more than once he likes it. Working with people is one of the rewarding things. I hate that its so badly paid though and #So stressful and demanding. They deserve double the pay at least. Ive only worked as a student with my mom for 3 months but even by only #Seeing that i can tell how hard the worj is. And then i hear all the shit they have to deal with its insane. People working in homecare #Especially. Like you need the social skills to deal with all kinds of people. Some are dement some are aggressive or other things. Then you #Will have to be cleaning a lot and you'll have to know how to do it decently. Making food is also common. You'll be dealing with medication #Heavy lifting is also not uncommon. Some people will need help to get up from bed and get showers. Not uncommon for their homes not to be #Installed with lifts or such to help with the lifting. Like its in my opinion one of the most demanding jobs around . And the people doing #It gets paid shit... For all thats expected and frankly demanded by the workers the pay is not even close to being fair #I know all healthcare workers have that issue basically but man homecare/older care... Those are extra unfair imo #Anyone who doesnt have respect for those workers I'll personally beat with a bat :)

I'd like ophelias character more if they leaned into either making her an awful piece of shit or a massive hypocrite more. It feels like they very clearly set her up as this cold blooded killer and then sorta yanked her back and im not talking abt her tragic backstory I genuinely like how she can't seem to be kind 2 the people luo yan saved instead of her boyfriend but I wish they just went with that instead of having her see this woman dying and going "wow that is sad :( I'll lie to comfort her" and aparantly in a bounty story of hers she was like playing with kids??? Anyways she was on top of Zora's hit list and I feel like the writers went "ok ignore that" even though Zora is the best character-

#The last part is like half joking. I love Zora and her event was probably my fave #Even if we don't have a lot to pick thru I think the writing was v strong and both she and Xiao Yin really got to shine #Plus she kinda stands out as an 'unaffiliated' character (yea bounty hunter but they're supposed to b neutral) but makes her hatred #VERY CLEAR like doesn't seem to hide it. So to just kinda go 'now feel sad for the person she hates' I'm sorry im not going to do that!#Especially when you implied/described her as being very cold blooded and not empathetic I don't really care #TLDR I think ophelia has potential but they didn't really reach it. Also Bonnie was underutilized in the story I know it's like #A side story so it's mostly ophelia like how it was almost totally ahmed last time but still Bonnie is one of the few shadow decree members #Who seem to be somewhat justified bc she GREW UP with the union not doing much! Not to say it justifies joining the organization that burns #Down an orphanage but like cmon she's 19 she's emotional she's the esper of the God of discord. I think she's allowed to be a little messy #AND HER BROTHER JOINED THE UNION. She's like tang yun if he wasn't a little bitch (affectionate I like tang yun and his writing but he is #Or at least seems to be kinda self sabotaging like. Get your shit together. hey idk if any of you are pastors but you should not do a sermon about how humans are inherently undeserving of love and how adopted children are undeserving of adoption and dont ask to be adopted (???) during a funeral, especially during the funeral of a woman with an adopted grandchild

#the whole thing was bullshit from start to finish and its so clear he had never met my nana #which is fucked up bc he wasnt a pastor contracted through a funeral home he was her pastor #like yeah hes an interim pastor but was he only there for 2 weeks ???#as it went on i progressed from trying to be subtle about rolling my eyes to open disgust bc it was so fucked up i wanted him to know #the entire story about adopted children was so distasteful that my nana wouldve gave him a piece of her mind if it had been my papa who died #he talked birth mothers stopping adoptions as them being selfish for keeping their child from Good People #which is horrendously offensive in general but also bc my aunt and uncle had birth mothers change their mind multiple times #and it was super sad every time it happened bc they were so excited to be getting a baby but they always had sympathy for the mother #the last time a mother changed her mind they were so devastated they almost asked to be removed from the list #but then they got a sudden call about robbie bc his mother hadn’t been Formally Planning to give him up while she was pregnant #he talked about adopted children like burdens that Good People™ take on infuriates me to no end #at least he didnt also do a call to salvation during the funeral like a pastor did at one my mom went to a few years ago #you dont care #on a different topic #my greatuncle was surprisingly disapproving of my current life situation which hurts bc he was on such a pedestal in my mind #also his wife is so empathetic about it that she brought it up to me #she has started to have sleep issues and she wanted to tell me that she now understands just how much that inhibits your life #it was genuine (and conversationally appropriate) she didnt just walk up to me and loudly tell me She Understands Now™#you can reblog i guess ?? but please dont add my tags especially not the ones after ‘you dont care’

he's married ?! nanami kento.

sum. he's easily the top most handsome guy within his job. his relationship status is unknown, so what happens when his co-workers ship him with a female worker?

nanami is well known within his company. tall, insanely fit, and an attractive voice. it's not uncommon for men and women alike to find themselves thinking about him often. what's not common is knowing about his love life. no one knows anything and he would've kept it that way. but when push comes to shove, and you're shipped with someone who's not your beloved, nanami will make it known that he's not only taken but married.

in the coffee-break room there are three guys. now, there's nothing unusual about this — no, no. they're just three guys that are co-workers... except there's a twist. they aren't your regular co-workers, they're your uncommon trio of male gossipers and nanami just so happened to be their newest victim.

"shh, shh! he's here," guy one, tichi, whispers to the others, raising his eyebrows and pointing his chin to nanami's position.

the other two take a quick glance, nodding their heads when they've seen nanami's back faced towards them. it's a perfect moment to strike up a conversation, especially since it's just four men here.

guy two, tacho, shuffles his feet to the empty space near nanami. he pretends to open a sugar packet, fiddling with it as his eyes peep over nanami's shoulder. his heart skips multiple beats when the man himself turns around.

"morning to you, tacho," nanami greets, nodding his head before he turns his attention back to his cup of coffee.

"y-yeah, morning!" he stutters, awkwardly smiling in return. he turns his head to the other two in the background, mouthing the word 'help' to them. unfortunately, they do not give the aid to their friend. instead, tichi fakes a series of coughs and guy three, toeny, gives him a confident double thumbs up. there's no hope, tacho sighs.

it's a silent moment between the men — only the sounds of coffee brewing and a spoon coming into contact with the mug can be heard. tacho's mouth itches him, he happened to remember his group's recent conversation about nanami. he must ask — even if it costs him a mutual co-worker.

"so, nanami," he begins, waiting for nanami to give him the undivided attention.

nanami doesn't face him, but he hums in response. tacho doesn't mind this as an answer, so he continues, "i was wondering if the rumors of you being with the new worker, yeri, are true?"

there is one big lie in that question: there are no such rumors. it's just a theory the trio has been gossiping about every night. nanami's been helping out yeri for quite some time, one can only think that they have a special connection going on.

"that is bullshit," nanami gives a firm answer. nothing more, nothing less.

tacho's stunned, he blinks a few times to recollect himself. "oh — so you're not with her?"

nanami doesn't answer yet, but the two in the back give their unwanted reactions. tichi clicks his tongue three times, shaking his head in disappointment at tacho's second question. it's obvious dumbass, he thinks. toeny, on the other hand, presses his lips in a thin line, pretending to read a magazine that's been on the counter.

nanami reaches into his pocket, whipping out his phone. the trio's confused until nanami speaks.

"i am married man. this is my wife," he educates, pressing the power button to show you as his lockscreen.

he collects three gasps, internally nodding at their shock. that's right, i'm gladly taken.

"all this time you've been... MARRIED?!" tacho's voice heightens, he drops his spoon in shock. it's unbelievable yet somewhat believable.

nanami breathes out a 'yes', raising his arm to show the wristwatch. "she bought this for our five-years anniversary recently. it's quite expensive, going over four-thousand," he brags, emphasizing on key words.

he's been waiting for the precious day where someone indirectly asks for his relationship status. the day has come and he will spend it bragging about his beloved.

nanami doesn't give them a chance to speak, he carries on with his bragging, "she's a very lovely woman. all my bentos are made by her and she writes little notes for each. some may think it's childish but that's bullshit! they just haven't experienced the love of a woman. matter of fact, her most beautiful moments are when she's freshly awake. the smile she gives me is nothing but angelic."

his speech doesn't stop there, but it did for the trio. his words went in one ear and out the next. nanami's blabbering about his wife immediately set a blank face upon tichi, tacho, and toeny. they're jealous and also surprised.

"the way a woman can change a man will never not be amazing," toeny whispers, blankly gazing at nanami's ongoing speech.

I've been thinking about Laios' succubus lately. Mulling it over a bit.

Because I've seen these pages brought up a fair bit, but almost entirely in the context of shipping (on all sides, really). And I really want to understand what they are doing for the story beyond that.

When I went back to reread the scene and section, a few things caught my interest: the way Laios responds to both forms of his succubus, the themes of the volume the chapter is found in, and the other events of the chapter itself.

So let's dive into those three things, and what I think they say about the succubus scene's purpose.

Laios is never fully frozen by the succubus

So. If you compare Marcille and Chilchuck's reactions...

to Laios':

There is a difference. Sure, the basics may look the same once it turns into Scylla Marcille, but even then, it functions differently.

Chilchuck and Marcille are completely frozen once they catch sight of their succubus. Izutsumi, as well, isn't able to look away, and completely freezes up once her 'mom' starts talking to her. As Chilchuck describes, "just looking at them makes you unable to move."

And yet, Scylla Marcille has to actively convince Laios to comply. He even looks away from her at one point!

Laios accepts this succubus, but he is never actually helpless to it in the same way. Taken in? Convinced? Sure, at least enough to let things happen that he probably should question more than he does. But magically compelled? Not really. Not the same way as everyone else is. So that's interesting. But let's move on for now.

2. Volume 9 is all about drive and desire

I don't often look at chapters within the context of the volume they are included in, but I think there's some really fun things to be found with that perspective in mind.

For one, volume 9 starts with an exploration of what desire brought Laios to the dungeon:

And ends with a question of what desire brought Laios to the dungeon:

It's also very concerned in general with questions of why people do what they do. Why they are in the dungeon, why they are with the people they are with, why they stay, what they fight for.

In addition to Laios, we see it with Marcille...

Izutsumi

Kabru

and Mithrun

Hell, we even get it for the demon!

It's certainly not the only volume concerned with desires and motives, but it is particularly focused on these ideas.

The succubus scene fits quite well into the ongoing question about desires, especially Laios' desires. It is even placed at an interesting spot within the volume. The volume is six chapters long, and the scene takes place at the start of the 4th chapter. It's almost smack-dab in the middle.

With all this in mind, it is interesting that, with both versions of the succubus Marcille, it's not totally clear which parts of her Laios is rejecting.

The first version of Marcille looks human, but Laios attacks when he identifies her as a monster. The second Marcille looks like a monster, but he seems to believe that she is the real (human)(ish) person that he knows. So is he rejecting the monster at first, and then accepting the person? Or is he rejecting humanity and only interested in the monstrous?

Something to consider as we look at the next point...

3. the rest of the chapter is a seduction, too

This is one of those things that might not be apparent on a first reading, but is crystal clear on a revisit. We see the succubus try and charm Laios over 7 pages, and then see the Winged Lion do the same thing for the next 19.

Much like the succubus, it offers the mingling of monsters and humans. Much like the succubus, it offers belonging.

(and this is the point where I absolutely must also link this post by fumifooms on the succubus, which has some great ideas on how the scene is informed by Laios' trauma and desire for acceptance!!!)

But, back to the point. The Winged Lion wants to feed on Laios just as much as the succubus did, and it uses similar strategies to try and make that happen. Though this chapter isn't really the turning point for the next Lord of the Dungeon (it is Marcille who will, eventually, become the Lion's next victim), it certainly behaves like it is.

Laios is convinced. The succubus gets its meal. By the end of the volume, the reader begins to understand how concerning his desires are. Together, it is all very good at building up that sense of dread and pending disaster, as we see exactly how and why Laios might just fall into the Lion's open arms and bring about the end of the world.

So that's the three things I noticed. But there's still something I want to touch on by looking at the way these observations overlap, and what they reveal, together.

As I said, by the end of the volume, you can feel the tension growing. Just as Kabru and Mithrun do, you look back for an answer to the questions that have been built, chapter by chapter: why is Laios here? Where will his loyalties fall? This chapter, and scene, seem to prove the inevitable truth: he will choose the monster, of course. He will choose the seductive, easy power of the Winged Lion.

But the details of what actually happens tell different story: one in which the Lion is wrong.

First, as a reminder - even in Scylla Marcille mode, the succubus never fully entrances Laios. It convinces him, but it doesn't have him completely under its thrall.

Similarly, in the dream, the Lion does convince Laios to embrace the world he is offering. But even within that dream, Laios continues to ask questions that will be vital to him later. It is because of those questions that Laios comes to a new understanding about Thistle.

And it's this realization that he cites later as part of his reason for refusing the Lion's offer.

He is thinking through things the entire time, just like he continues to question the succubus even after it turns into Scylla Marcille.

Laios also expresses an interesting reason for why he wants to see the future of this world. He's not just invested because it would mean people liking what he likes, or him getting to spend time with monsters. The thought that comes immediately before his acceptance is about what he wants for monsters and people.

I don't think it's a coincidence that this statement - "we're living beings that share the same world, but all we can do is keep killing each other" - can apply to the various humans races just as much as it does to humans and monsters. The thing he is thinking about here isn't just a matter of his personal daydreams. It's an idea that underpins every conflict in the story.

Laios caring about how people as well as monsters in this manner is something that the Lion gets wrong every time. Even at the end, he still frames Laios' desires entirely around hating people and loving monsters.

The Lion has heard him express an opinion about the future of the world! It happened right there in the dream, right in front of him! He just didn't take it seriously, and didn't view it through any lens other than "Laios likes monsters more".

He's convinced that he understands how to get to Laios. Maybe the Lion can't truly see everything, or maybe his vision into everyone's deepest desires has made it hard for him to realize how much choice still matters. That people can, and do, choose which desires to act on, and how to act on them.

Whatever the case, he's wrong about Laios, and the story shows us this over and over again.

After all, look at how the succubus interaction plays out:

A monster uses Marcille to appeal to Laios...

He realizes that something about the situation is wrong, and rejects her.

It changes strategies, and makes new offer: to turn him into a monster.

It also assures him that his friends are, or will be, taken care of.

He accepts. Or rather, allows the monster to have its way with him.

But Laios is not as helpless as he initially appears, and what the Lion thinks is a successful seduction also contains the seed of an idea that will allow Laios to later resist him.

We even get to see Izutsumi playing a similar role in both instances, as the one person fully able to take action in the face to the illusion.

The story lays out what is going happen, and then explicitly tells us that the demon and the succubus are thematically related.

The chapter performs a great sleight of hand here - everything about it seems to indicate that Laios is doomed give in to the option to have his deepest desires realized. But if you look closer, it also contains the evidence that he won't. There's a lot more going on for him.

Yes, he still falls for obvious tricks. He is still extremely into monsters, and he still doesn't feel like he fits in with other people. He may, deep down, crave to surrender to the monstrous - to let it absorb him. But he questions more than he seems to. He considers more than people realize. He cares so much more than anyone gives him credit for.

And I think this is part of why we see the succubus called back to so many times, especially with the wolf head addition to his Monster Form, which he specifically added due to his encounter with the Scylla Marcille.

This all stays with Laios. It doesn't just foreshadow the path of the story, it is fundamental to how and why he walks that path. It's not about him choosing monsters, and it's not about him choosing people. It's about how he considers both, and cares about both.

And it's about the forces that think they already know his answer. Mithrun and Kabru. The Winged Lion. The succubus.

It's about how they are wrong.
