Crossing A Line

Caroline stared as his back as he retreated up the stairs of the hotel lobby. He was annoyed with her again today. Lately, it seemed the tension between them had been thick and hard to cut. She had been a little stressed working on a new movie and for the last couple of days, she had been focused on making sure the intimate scene needed to be retaken as little as possible.

Closing her eyes, she bit down on her lip as she tried to recall anything that could have made his behavior change. Everything seemed to have started when she started filming that scene. Sometimes she would look over during break and his body radiated anger and aggravation. His jaw would be tense and his eyes hooded.

She opened her mouth and found it dry. If she didn't do something quick, he would be out of her sight.

"Estinien, wait. Please."

The taller man stopped his ascent and turned his head over his shoulder to look at her. He could see her fidgeting with her hands before she placed them behind her back to hide them. His chest tightened and he had to get away from her.

"Miss Caroline, you should rest."

The formal tone was like a knife to the heart for her and she swallowed a lump in her throat before attempting to speak again.

"Have I done something to upset you? Do you-" she paused, tears forming in her eyes as her mouth moved again. "Do you not want to be my bodyguard anymore?"

At the sight of her unshed tears, his feet moved against his better judgment. With long strides, he stood before her in mere seconds and gently tilted her chin upwards.

"I didn't say that," he said, thickly. "Things are complicated now. There are lines in the sand that shouldn't be crossed."

Staring into his eyes, she felt the words on the tip of her tongue and the heat began to rise in her face. She didn't want to lose him. She loved him. Before she could filter everything in her head, she asked, "What if I asked you to cross them for me?"

So I may or may not have made myself cry with this

Yuhki often visits Haurchefant's grave, and she always tells him about her adventures. It's not uncommon for her to spend at least an hour there, just hoping her friend can hear her from the aetherial sea.

This screenshot is just a special one because I just imagine it's because Yuhki wanted to tell Haurchefant that she and Estinien are at least trying to settle down together. I mean, it was Haurchefant that kind of led Yuhki and Estinien to where they are now. He was unknowingly being the wingman for both of them 😭 I am not ready for when one of my friends and I get to that scene again
