Etho and Bdubs hate eachother. It's common knowledge to everyone else.

Growing up as childhood friends, their mother always had a rivalry. They always tried to outdo themselves to please their parents.

Until one day.

Bdubs lost at something to Etho. Usually, he hid it form his parents. Coming home with a triumphant smirk and boasting about something he didn't even win (but his mum doesnt need to know that)

But today was different. It turned out that his parents had ran into Etho's, who were boasting about Etho winning.

It was over for Bdubs.

He was sent out of the house, all his attempts to say that Etho was lying were futile. He sat on the pavement outside his house, wishing desperately that he bought his coat out. December was not the greatest time to be locked out in the rain.

Etho walked past feeling triumphant that he got Bdubs into trouble. Until he found the said boy on the ground, nearly turning blue from the cold.

Without hesitation, he wraps a jacket around him, picking him up and sneaking him indoors. His parents are out now, so it'll be easy.

When Bdubs comes around, Etho helps hom up and passes him tea.

They meet up at school and sometimes outside of it. They're in love.

Someday, they'll confront their parents. Someday, they'll let them know that their feud is ruining their lives.

But for now, straling kisses and meeting up in secret is the best they have.

It takes a long time to unravel the feelings their parents forced on them. This competition never really was them. Bdubs is competitive, sure, but he usually likes seeing other people succeed! Whilst Etho... He just likes to do well. Beating people isn't a priority for him.

Only towards each other. Only to impress their parents.

Bdubs still notices how Etho suddenly starts 'slipping up' when it seems like he might get a better score than Bdubs. Bdubs, frankly, won't stand for it. He is not going to let this affect Etho's future, he can deal with his parents. (Etho does not point out he clearly can't, because he's the one who sneaks Bdubs into his house each time.) Either way, Bdubs wants a fair competition. They owe each other that, right?

When they speak of their future, it's of a place they live together. No parents dictating this or that. They're hoping they can achieve it at college, so it's even more important Etho works to get good grades and extra curriculars! That'll be step one.

They just have to hold on until then. It's a lot easier now they have each other.

*pretends to be an analyst like in the mcc subreddit* okay so do i think Cyan Coyotes will win

My main point here will be to compare MCC Underdogs Purple Pandas and MCC 33 Cyan Coyotes. Obviously my brainrot causes me to involuntarily compare a team that Bdubs was on and a team that Etho is on, however there are a few parallels.

First off, the most obvious one is FireBreathMan. He's an insanely good player, he's good at movement and PvP, and he's known for being ❗ Technoblade's sensei ❗ he also used to be an MCC tester, which, while a lot has changed since then, means that he has almost as much experience as a regular MCC player; and, after being in a few actual MCC's since then, would amount to a serious amount of experience.

Secondly, from my observations, Etho and Impulse are about on the same level in general Minecraft gameplay. They both learn quickly, are able to adapt and are smart and agile players. I would compare Bdubs and Scar in terms of skill as well, being only slightly behind their partners. That would mean that Etho and Scar would be on about the same level gameplay wise as Bdubs and Impulse were, BUT impdubs were both new to MCC, while Scar ISN'T, meaning scab could potentially be even better. I don't know how well Etho and Scar play together, but they certainly get along very well. I haven't watched MCC in a while, but i remember Scar's big problem being communication (when he went silent and the rest of the team didn't know where he was, how he was doing, what was happening, etc). I can see Etho communicating fairly well, but there's also a factor of being new to a THIRTY THIRD EVENT and getting a little paralyzed and overwhelmed, which WILL be an obstacle.

Now, Scott, FBM, Etho and Scar is a strong team with a lot of potential, and a similar team from before won the event, despite having 3 new players! BUT there is a key difference... In that MCC Underdogs, in which Bdubs, Impulse, FBM and Blushie won, was an MCC that only had people that haven't won yet. This means that, on average, it had less super good very competitive players. This time it's a normal MCC, which has more competition and more players that are a big threat (Fruit, Pete, Jojo, Purpled, Punz and Sapnap on the same team?!) Teams like Red, Aqua, Blue and Purple will be BRUTAL.

Do i think Cyan will win? No. Do i think they can win? Definitely. I don't think that's very likely. But i do think they will come in top 6. I predict Etho will be in top 35. He will do well in Grid Runners and Ace Race, maybe well in Parkour Warrior, TGTTOSAWAF and Sands of Time. I could see him do well in Battle Box, Sky Battle and Parkour Tag IF HE'S LUCKY. I don't remember other games.

But idc if all of what I'm saying is wrong!! I don't care if he's great at everything or if he sucks and comes 45th in a game with 40 players!! I just want to see Etho in a new setting that's unusual for him, and to see him have fun with his friends and meet new people :D my biggest wish for this MCC? have him join a few vc's at the end, when everyone is just chatting and discussing each others performance. Or others joining his vc would also be neat. I don't see him staying on for long, but imagine Cub, False, Joel, Impulse, Philza, Captain Sparklez joining to praise him???? That would be so sweet!! Maybe people who don't participate could also join the vc since they probably have access to it wink wink Bdubs wink wink actually i also want Bdubs in Etho's chat, and Etho replying to his messages once in a while. Usually it's Etho in Bdubs's chat, so to see this get reversed???? ONCE IN A LIFE TIME OPPORTUNITY, I TELL YA. Even if Bdubs ends up being too busy, he will definitely come watch at least for a little bit. Can't wait to see Tango and Skizz and Doc and Ren and perhaps some other friends in chat too. Can't wait to see them discuss Etho's first MCC afterwards. Can't wait to just. See Etho in MCC! It's wild that it's happening!!!! People have been speculating about him joining since the first events. It's actually happening guys. I'M SO EXCITED.

Edit: so, update, Etho won't stream apparently :( but hey! At least a part of my dream will happen right :D?

Dynamics/ Team-ups I want to see in the life series!

Etho & Gem

You've seen their dynamic on Hermitcraft together. Do I need to elaborate. It'd be so funny. Gem is entirely unimpressed by his shanigans (shes an Ethogirl at heart). They would do really well.

Mumbo & Lizzie

I honestly feel like they would mesh so well together. Mumbo and Lizzie both have quite similar, awkward "I-don't-know-what-I'm-doing and-I'm-afraid-but-I-enjoy-the-chaos" energies. I think they would be so much fun. Would they be an effective team? Probably not. But would they have the most shenanigans? Yes.

Gem, Cleo, Pearl & Lizzie

TEAM GIRL TEAM GIRL i honestly think this would be the most amazing friendship it'd be so fun. Guys please.

BigB & Grian

They're friends irl and it shows in their dyanmic chemistry on screen. BigB likes to hang back and Grian likes to be the centre of things, and I think in this regard they'll help balance each other out. Also Grian has wanted to team qith BigB since 3rd life, they'd both enjoy it!

BigB & Martyn

Also friends irl. Martyn likes being witty and starting bits and BigB is genuinely really talented in yes and-ing and continuing bits. They both match each other in terms of being very forthright and very myterious all at once.

Scott & Tango

I just feel like Tango and Scott would match each other's energies and playstyles quite well. They're both interested in the technical aspects of the game and playing to win, but neither are afraid to take a break for bits. Scott's building and Tango's redstone would be a terrifying force together.

Skizz & Grian

I refer you to GIGS phasmophobia streams.

Martyn, Etho & Joel

This team would be a huge disaster. I can see the in-fighting from here. They would come up with the stupidest schemes known to man. They would all be besties. They would have at least 3 divorces. I have got to see this happen it would be brilliant.

Martyn & Gem

Both really like being witty and come-backs. They would be so smart together. Both of them are super competitive but also love the shenanigans and improv. I think they would also yes-and each other till the end.

Martyn & BDubs

BDubs doesnt get enough credit for his wit and improv, hes so talented! Martyn is the witty improv guy. They would be an absolute force together. They wouldn't get anything done, and would probably spend too much time spying together. But the shenanigans and rp would be fantastic.

Pearl & Grian

They would be the absolute worst. Theyd probably die horribly and fight all the time. Itd be really funny though.

Mumbo, Tango & Skizz

They just seem like they all get along really well. A good mixture of chilling and silliness. :DD

Mumbo & BigB

I want to see them hang out more they seem like they would be best friends itd be really wholesome. I don't think they'd win. I think it would be an excellent vibe.

Scar & Lizzie

They both have very similar senses of humour. They both love running with particular characters (see Fairy Queen Lizzie and Wizard Scar). They are both goofy and silly and loveable and threatening to blow your house up. Peak dynamic. It'd be amazing.

Scar & Bdubs

I refer you to HC s7. Trust me itd be good.

I've expounded on it a bit earlier too. But life was. Not. Kind. To Vale post his final title.

See the nature of power is that it is a potent drug and even the ones most deft at handling it definitely take psychic damage. When you're someone like Vale who was given a free reign since young adulthood to do whatever you want, you get used to it. He basically got Jeremy Burgess as his mechanic on a whim, and even though Yamaha had their strict Japanese ethos he was able to drive design decisions (colors, gimmicks, cartoons, the works) as he wanted. He was allowed these things because he won.

When he came to Yamaha from Honda, he managed to turn a midfield team around to deliver instant wins. He was able to shut everyone up who thought his wins with Honda were due to the bike.

I guess that's what he wanted when he made the switch to Ducati. A continuation of the magic. Flip a backmarker around, deliver even more on top of the existing 9 championships. Solidify in the minds of the people that Valentino Rossi is the sport and he will win irrespective of circumstances and competition.

Anyway none of that happened. And listen, there are healthy ways to process something like this but whatever that healthy thing is, is not embedded in the mind of a man doing 300kmph on a death machine while also entertaining crowds. (Btw if we compare to similar motorsports champions, Schumi quit after losing in 2005 and 2006 because who wants to have that after basically conquering the world. Lewis' 2021 loss was something that clearly affected him and he's doing what he can to reclaim some of that lost pride and power)

So eventually what we're left with is a man who after 9 championships has to contend with the fact that new and aggressive opponents exist that he can't win out against as easily. And that he's older, and that the world's eyes are on him as usual and now he doesn't have the form and power to dictate how people see him.

Now imagine amidst all this shit show, comes the most gifted rider of generations. Who makes heart eyes at you while you have to contemplate your own mortality. I'd chew at the bars of my own enclosure too.

If you were to have someone foreign develop some new nasu thing be that an adaptation or a brand new project who would you want to do it?

Me.

I won't even fully indulge myself and propose some project specifically catered to only me and what I like about Type-Moon because I know that will never sell, I'll propose a project with actual brand recognition and a known market.

Give me the Fate/Grand Order property and I'll propose a Heroes of the Storm style team brawler, casual enough that it won't scare away people because I'm not insane enough to propose making a real MOBA that competes with League of Legends and Dota 2 even if I'd want to.

No need to think about the setting. The gist is these are teambuilding exercises disguised as a competition inside Chaldea's simulator. All the mobs on the lanes? Mini Nobus. Shopkeeper? Still mini Nobus. Jungle creeps? Monsters. Maybe more Mini Nobus. Take the enemy's flag / destroy their base and you win, 20 minute matches, both the winning and losing team can get random cosmetic drops so everybody gets a silly hat to wear.

No need to worry about writing anything that would actually contradict Nasu's canon. As a session-based game the only writing to be done are interactions and quips between characters as servants fight each other, or when they're allies, and flavor text such as their profiles which FGO already has up anyway. I'll add playable characters from the wider Type-Moon universe too, because I want to indulge myself at least a little.

Pokemon Unite showed us that there's still a market for these more casual but still team-based competitive games, and FGO has the perfect setting, cast, and pre-existing fanbase to pull this off. Type-Moon would never make this on their own, because they are storytellers first and game designers never which is the exact opposite of these kinds of games, which is why they should lend out the property.

For an actual serious answer, I think Korean developer Nimble Neuron could make a fantastic Grail War survival game. I've posted before about being a fan of Eternal Return and its incredibly unique take on battle royales, I think playing it as a duo is probably the closest you can get to replicating a Grail War in a video game.

Now if by "foreign" you meant "Western", there's only one Western storyteller I would trust to first understand the heart of something before adapting it, and that's Guillermo Del Toro. I don't think he's a very compatible fit at all with any Type-Moon property nor the general ethos behind the world but I don't trust anyone else to even try you know? I know Del Toro would try. He might even make something incredibly good if unrecognizable.

I dont care what you say Boat Boys are the scariest MFs on the server. Joel has the bloodlust to do it and Etho will give him the tools. I give them 2, maybe even 4 kills before dying if they can tpk, like with traps. Thats counting individual kills not deaths, pairs that are together or not caught alone are much stronger. Having a soulmate can actually be an advantage, especially with items like golden apples (lesser extent soup) one can stay away from the action and keep eating, affording a temporary advantage in single/ 2 on1 combat or even against under armored(more importantly under-enchanted), or ambushed/inexperienced opponents. They’ve been taking a lot of risks though (thats kind of the play style Etho has, and I only know Joel thru Life series but he seems to do a somewhat similar style).

Depending on how many traps in play (or will be,) i’d bet they can last till the finale. Things are moving fast, though. If you think about it the series only has 24 lives total. There are 2 yellow pairs and one green, rest are red. That’s 12 lives left exactly. And lives fall off harder in the later half. People die in minecraft eventually and these guys all tend to make it happen if things are boring. Etho I-launched-a-torpedo-because-I-was-bored Slab will probably use TNT in some form. But Grian will too so honestly Scar and Grian have a pretty good chance, traps are key. But all that TNT and stuff Grian gave BigB? Uhh that might come back to bite them.

When it comes down to PvP, the style of the series means its not all best gear best skills. Its totally psychological strategy sometimes. Though since its all for fun its not like… seriously cutthroat, which means- if this is the funnier thing to do, its what’s happening. Which i do like actually. The only prize is a longer series staying alive longer lol.

Im sorry for the too-serious analysis ive been watching Survivor in Animal Crossing. This really hits the weird social game spot between MCC-like competition and ridiculous for-fun and entertainment stuff like Wipeout or Bachelor or Survivor. And i love to make predictions on those. Id be curious to hear what people more into PvP than me would say, though. Honestly i want Cleo and Scott to win.. but.. er, they can’t win together. 🥲

Okay so you get maybe the only ethubs-centric idea I have ever had, for some reason. I need more ethubs thoughts.

So there's this series of games called My Time At Portia and My Time At Sandrock which are both incredible fun farming/life sim style games. So that's where this idea comes from.

Okay so first, the setting would be a Minecraft fantasy world [of course] but like, far more clearly post apocalypse than I normally do. They're building new citys in the shadows of the ruins of old, or sometimes on top of them. And since this is based on hermit builds, the builds are for sure like MASSIVE - whereas comparatively the 'city' they live in is comparatively simple. I kind of want to set it on the outskirts of a jungle, which is like an ancient manmade planted forest that has WAY overgrown in the apocalypse and so there's tons to explore, along with the ruins around the city. You know, for the vibes.

Bdubs is a Builder - one of the people tasked with getting civilizations feet back under itself. He takes on any tasks - big or small. Someone needs a new chair, he builds it. There's a baby, he builds the nursery. The city needs a new wall - yep. Bdubs. And in order to encourage a ton of work getting done, Hermit Town's builders are pit against each other in friendly competition. And Bdubs absolutely wants to win at the end of the year - they earn points by getting commissions for the other citizens and city done. So obviously there's a huge draw for him to do a ton of stuff. I'm thinking Pearl and Scar are the other two like Official City Builders because I think the three of them would have a really interesting dynamic.

Etho is a part of the Civil Corps - basically the security force of the city. Also on this team are False and Gem I think. They're supposed to patrol, act as a sort of police force kind of? But also they keep the mobs at bay even in the outskirts of the town like where the builders tend to live. They're whole thing is making sure no one dies of unnatural causes. They ALSO go in and secure ruins so people like Bdubs can go claim materials and parts from the old world to be used in the new one - and info too. You see, in the ancient ruins is ton of lost redstone knowledge, and civilization has been working on relearning their roots here. So you've got like - I think Cub, Tango, and Mumbo as researchers who want that information, and Etho and Bdubs as the people who provide it.

So all that out of the way I think the plot is actually pretty simple. Bdubs is trying once again to beat Pearl and Scar at the end of the year Builder Awards by taking on more and more commissions throughout the year. More commissions means he's out and about collecting materials and building things around town and at his workshop. Being out and about more also gives him a GREAT excuse to see that smug bastard civil corps guy who he's definitely NOT infatuated with, thank you very much, which is definitely not why he conveniently needs help only when Etho is around.

I think it would be a softer plot than I normally go for where its Bdubs and Etho learning more and more about each other as the year goes on and falling in love while exploring the ruins around their city and helping each other, all the while Bdubs is working himself hard in order to win the commission competition and FINALLY beat Scar, which is what the story's plot is working towards. A lot of soft moments, some mild to moderate dangerous situations, 1 very hot civil corp member coming to save the day....do you see the vision. This would definitely be one that I would play out like Rift AU where its a series of connected stories instead of linear but god I can just like. FEEL the softness from here. The falling in love, the friendly competition. Its very different from most of my aus tbh but they deserve it.

hiii !! i thought id ask you but if it's too much feel free to ignore...

i really want to get into the... life series i think it's called? or hermitcraft? (tumblr confused me a lot on the names) your art makes it seem very interesting and i've heard so many cool things and seen so many cool fanarts, but im not sure where to start since it seems to be a long series!

it usually helps me a lot when i get some sort of description of the characters in the series to know which ones i should look into to know where to start... so i was wondering if you could ramble a bit about any characters you want from the series!!! i have a big curiosity on grian, they seem very cool !

-Life Series has 4 (soon to be 5) seasons: 3rd Life [3L], Last Life [LL], Double Life [DL], Limited Life [LimL]. TLDR goal is to outlive everyone else and be the last person standing.

-Hermitcraft has 9 seasons. You do NOT need to watch every season in chronological order, they all exist as their separate thing.

Hermitcraft doesn't have ' set lore ' either hermits go on there for different reasons do different stuff and stories sprout off of that just *happen* momentarily.

I think watching the Life Series first BEFORE Hermitcraft is a good starting point bc there's less people to keep track of and improv plot happens, making it easier to pick out the faves you like and wish to continue watching on HC. Majority of the ppl in Life Series are on Hermitcraft while others are in Empires. Similar vibe of smp more lore and rules with governing different empires if you like that stuff :] there was also a crossover arc between Empires s2 and Hermitcraft S9 last year which was awesome.

As for Hermitcraft itself bwaaaa, pick any season (personal favourite is Season 7) - ppl rly like Seasons 7 8 and 9 but that's probably cuz they're newer. Current POVs in season 9 I watch: Bdubs, Etho, Scar, Grian, Tango, Beef - occasionally Impulse, Pearl, Zedaph

I did a similar ask on recommended Life Series POVs for each season HERE. Just know that the LAST LIFE ETHO/BDUBS POV compulsory event you MUST watch that at least once.

random Life Series thoughts:

Grian isn't as serious and calculative as he's popularly depicted as in fanon, he has lots of fun always he silly :]! And I think the reason just comes from his competitive approach to each season and his relationships. He treats it as it is: a game and trying to place him in an rp/lore setting makes him come off as such. In reality he's easily tunnel visioned by The Bit (things like gimmick kills, one-off plans) and trying to win and that's completely fine.

That being said I do not believe desertduo (Grian/Scar) are opposites of eachother, they have much in common and just because they are doesn't make their chemistry any less valuable. If you want to talk about opposites SCAB (Scar/Etho) is the way to go. Very apparent in 3L and especially LL: Magic vs Science, Fire vs Ice, wildcards. Scar the lover who tries to be a survivor, Etho the survivor who tries to be a lover. Their tension bleeds into Hermitcraft (see S7) as well and I wish people realised how awesome scab just is guys scab is so awesome u_u

From the architecture down to their fates, Bdubs' builds are the embodiment of his love for the people he aligns himself to each season, there's a reason why he'd rather risk his entire being to protecting places so sacred and I think about that loads. whwhwh I'd talk about it/analyse each build individually because he is my favouriteee but I am shy u///u....

Okay I’m ready to answer this ask now that I just got back from the beach myself lol. Field research….

FIRST and foremost i actually want to say i have thought about cute beach outfits for some of the characters! Maybe ill get around to drawing those one day but i also have cute pj ideas so? I guess itll depend on what i wanna draw when i get to it lol

Anyway the actual beach day ideas, and im going to do them for the whole guild not just the main four!

Venus organizes the trip as a reward for everyone for working so hard and they all travel together by train, one of the few occasions where the entire guild does so.

Mira would feed the seagulls even after everyone asked her to please STOP feeding the seagulls because theyve started to follow them. She says not to worry because she picked food that wouldnt be bad for them. Everyones like our concern is not seagull husbandry. And shes like well it should be. And keeps feeding the seagulls.

Bella spends the entire day underneath a large black parasol, not even for protection from the sun its just part of her look. She also seems to visit the snack bar a lot.

Polaris mostly stays inside a little boat because she’s afraid she’ll freeze the water otherwise, and also just because she just likes being on the boat (Otherwise she’d stay on land lol). But she wants to get in the water too, and Saiph talks her into it by saying that even if she did freeze it a bit he could just melt it again anyway, and that theres no possible way she could actually freeze this much water anyway. It clears her head enough that she’s able to swim with no problems.

Al grew up by the beach and he can get mad sentimental about it, but not really in a way that takes away from the incredible amount of fun he has just being in that atmosphere. It’s like got lots of childhood memories tied to it for him so its a throwback in a way lol. Anyway while he muses on this saiph and polaris flip his inner tube over and they all have a laugh lol

Tondra falls asleep in the sand and Capella and Alcor bury them because theyre little shits like that.

Noctua builds a sand castle and Fornax uses their ethos to make it metal so it wont ever ever ever get knocked down <3 the quality of the sand castle is so-so, but like, hes six

Vela and Ran are pretty much both right in their element in the ocean. They also get an inflatable raft and act as if it’s actually a pirate ship.

Saiph brings some mini grill supplies to do the cooking for everyone, this is a daunting task he works in shifts with Vesta.

Felis doesn’t like water, she just sits all day and sunbathes. Yes, because she’s a cat.

Pyxis forgets he’s old and throws out his back trying to show up young people surfing.

Baiduri and Nix v.s. Euphie and Imai volleyball game proving to be the athletic event of the century. Euphie and Imai win the first round but Baiduri and Nix win the rematch after sundown.

Regulus came to the beach only to relax and be pretty and hes actively using his ethos to repel sand from himself which is just unnecessary.

Ain is somehow the lifeguard now and no one is sure how she managed to do that. Presumably she one-upped the other lifeguard so bad he quit. Her witch hat is now red with a white cross on it.

Shaula and Io are currently trying to break the world record for biggest cannonball splash. They don’t know what the world record is they’re just doing canon balls and guestemating if anyone in history has ever done a bigger one.

Itonda is taking Eirine and Lillie around the shore to collect seashells, but they keep being competitive about it and are getting increasingly annoyed when they ask whose seashell is better and he says “umm theyre both nice :)”

Both Juno and Bernard spend most of the day under the umbrella reading books or relaxing rather than going in the water. Bernard may eventually be swayed but Juno refuses to leave because “water is the #1 cause of drowning” < things normal people say.

Orion catches a fish in a bucket to show to Capella and then they must both solemnly let the little fishie go.

A jellyfish latches onto Lacerta but her ethos makes her immune to venom so she just hangs out with it on her leg. And everyones like um hey are you okay?? And shes like yeah why do you have a problem with Squishy? My friend Squishy? Get a life.

AND last but not least this was actually an idea from my friend @pakbet Al brings a stick and watermelons and a blindfold for suikawari, mira finds it super fun to run around and wack stuff and saiph might get lightheartedly competitive but at the end of the day io would annihilate them all entirely it would be no contest. that watermelon is juice now.

not as an "against anyone elses read" headcanon, but I cannot see johnny as being anything but better than daniel at karate when it's used as a competitive offensive sport, and not just because his whole ethos was built around karate being used to fight (and win) but because johnny's personality/life/body/self is tied to doing karate, while I think daniel is much more uh... I want to say well-rounded, despite the badness in his brain right now... but also he relates karate to his connection with miyagi specifically

not that I know that this was intentional, but it's also why I read johnny's training methods - while oftentimes a bit exaggerated in their ridiculousness - as better at connecting with students where they are, because he's not trying to emulate a specific person + once he lets go of the "a man out on the street confronts you..." strike hard mentality, he especially is just kind of... going with his instincts - which, again, if we ignore how dangerous cement mixers actually are are pretty good (I feel like s4 johnny was floundering a lot emotionally post sam-roof-jump, feel like... I wanna say s6... he'll get some balance - yes, we're using balance as a "get it... I'm talking about balance... and johnny... because.... *mumbles drift off awkwardly something about johnny thriving under miyagi-do teachings*..." anyway)

daniel is so caught up in what miyagi might want/what miyagi gave to him that he can't evolve what he's learned for his students or even really for himself, because what he's really trying to do is honour/mourn miyagi, and it's not until literally the last episode of s4 that he thought about challenging that mentality in himself (also when he was teaching miguel how to fix cars!!!), which is part of why I'm excited to see what chozen will bring to the mix

but he stopped doing karate, presumably when miyagi died

and he picked it up again to be closer to miyagi and his ethos again, because that was where he used to feel grounded and safe

he was never "meant" to fight... that wasn't what he was doing karate for --- that post pointing out as well that daniel wins all three fights in the movies by confusing the hell out of the antagonists, which is hilarious and true and interesting in terms of like... cobra kai daniel who's trying to be the pacifist that miyagi was, but is assailed pretty relentlessly, both physically and emotionally, until he feels he's got to hit back -- although that being said, daniel sort of does want to fight/spar especially johnny a lot, even in s1 (which is g a y of him) + his connection with chozen in s3 also gives us hints of a daniel whose thinking is moving in new directions (but then he misuses the technique chozen showed him against johnny... daniel's brain is all over the place, I love him, I want chozen to squish his cheeks and tell him to b r e a t h e ! ! ! )

that's not to say he couldn't win against kreese (he did so using the technique chozen showed him) or against those hockey dudes (I'm still trying to make that fit, because I don't know why he started fighting them, only thing I can think of is impressing johnny, because "defending amanda's honour" is like... really? or maybe he finally broke -- years of guys being toxic dicks around your perceived unmanliness *cough* queerness *cough* will do that, anyway anyway) or tying with johnny, who always does worse when he's getting insecure about a fight. very interesting that daniel using the technique that chozen showed him doesn't work to score him a point/beat johnny!

TL;DR for daniel, karate isn't his whole self - for johnny karate is like... air. His whole self is tied to doing it

for daniel it's a means towards inhabiting an ethos that his father lived by, even if he's been struggling since his death to come to that ethos without using his memory as a crutch :(

not sure where to end this. in some ways johnny is the karate kid, although not for the bullshit reasons that daniel-dislikers tout (why do they watch the karate kid movies I ask over and over)

...you have opened my eyes to a vast universe of VintageBeef lore that I was unaware of. I knew about the New Hermit Order, of course, and the UHC invention, and I've watched a few of his CTM things but -- I will take all the info and lore you feel like giving out because Beef is amazing and my knowledge is so small.

Vintagebeef my beloved <3

So the thing is, right, until about 2016 I only watched two (2) youtubers- Vintagebeef for Minecraft and aDrive for Pokemon (and funnily enough both of them are named Dan irl). So I've watched most of Beef's videos over the years and have a general knowledge of most of his stuff, except because it's been like a decade I don't remember where most of the lore comes from XD

The thing with him is that he doesn't do Lore tm the way other mcyters often do lore- he doesn't have an extensive RP series to draw from like Grian, doesn't have a solo world with steadily increasing amounts of lore like Etho or Zisteau, and while he's played on SMPs and been involved in storylines before it's not really the focus of his episodes unlike with Evo or Legacy or Empires

So where does that leave us?

IRL, Beef always has multiple series running at the same time. Often he's playing on an smp while doing a singleplayer, often modded, series as well as a CTM or modpack with a group of friends. For example, right now he's playing on Hermitcraft, doing weekly Pixelmon and Building a Zoo episodes, and a CTM map with Slip. And to me, this translates to one thing: Beef is an adventurer. He travels frequently- he explores a world and when he decides he's done, he leaves for the next one. That's the basis of my personal interpretation of his series and his character for my writing.

Ok so reading this back, this got extremely long and didn't explain much in the way of lore, somehow? If anyone has any additions to add please do so, I am very definitely leaving out a lot and would love to see what other lore people remember and are using for Beef! I didn’t include the Hermitcraft stuff since my memory of season 4 is blurry (his base was themed after the Martian, that much I know, and he and Iskall were buddies :D) and most of the s5 NHO lore is best watched from Bdub’s perspective from what I remember, and the only s6 stuff is a single line in Hermitgang and then the Area 77 arc with its possibility of an NHO reunion which we did not get rip. And s7 of course had the cloning machine and also the Podzol Party as the main lore. So all the original rambling is still below the cut though it is very long, and I'm gonna bullet point the main stuff here instead:

Actual canonical things:

Invented UHC and was the only survivor of the first ever uhc (Mindcrack UHC s1)

Married to an ender dragon (one of the UHCs I think), later father to a different dragon (Mindcrack season 3? I think?)

Might not have legs if you choose to take that joke as canon (Mindcrack s2)

Was a wizard (RAD)

is a zookeeper (Building a Zoo)

Had a wife and kids (Sims in Minecraft)

Part of the Trial of the B Team court case (Mindcrack)

NHO founder, founder of the Podzol Party (Hermitcraft)

Created a cloning machine that sort of works (Hermitcraft)

Played the Forest which is I believe the first time he and Keralis played together (look up the trigger warnings for this one, it's a horror game)

Was the creator/owner of Sourceblock SMP (featuring some familiar faces if you know Legacy, Empires, or MCC) and there is literal magic from a mysterious sourceblock of water that teleports people and summons mobs and probably more stuff that I haven't seen yet since I'm still watching it myself

Things you can infer:

Good with animals (Life in the Woods, Pixelmon, Ark)

Is a car nerd (irl and all of the car games he's played)

Is a highly experienced adventurer who has traveled through dozens of worlds both vanilla and modded, across multiple dimensions (Twilight Forest, the Aether, the Betweenlands, Limbo), completed dozens of monuments, fought in blood sports, survived apocalypse after apocalypse, tamed dinosaurs, and played a lot of prop hunt and golf with your friends

If you're looking for what to watch for lore purposes, I'd say the Mindcrack UHCs and Team Canada's RAD series are pretty good, definitely Sourceblock and HC s5, plus the Diversity CTM maps and Ruins of the Mindcrackers maybe? And Mindcrack Prank Wars for the chaos and the origin of Team Canada. And if you can handle horror than the Forest is fun and if you don't do horror you can watch the Pojkband play golf or prop hunt they're hilarious I love them sm I want a Pojkband reunion So Bad

Beef's first series was a singleplayer series in beta 1.4_01 though he had played the game extensively before that, and was a big fan of Guude, having watched his own Minecraft videos. The series was functionally a hardcore one where if he died Beef would delete the world and start again! I haven't actually Watched this series so idk if he died or how often lmao. When Guude made Mindcrack, which was btw one of the very first Minecraft SMPs, he also hosted a competition for people to join, and Beef submitted a video (which is still viewable on his channel I believe!) and won, and was added to Mindcrack in season 2 :D (fun fact, Guude said that even if Beef hadn’t won he would have added him anyway)

Two running jokes emerged from Mindcrack- pulling a Vintagebeef and Beef doesn't have legs. The first is a reference to Beef dying of fall damage (I believe the exact instance was him trying to jump into his swimming pool and failing spectacularly) and after the incident, every time someone died of fall damage they were pulling a Vintagebeef. The second joke comes from Guude, who joked that the reason Beef wasn't going to a convention was because he didn't have legs, and then he pranked Beef's base by building a giant pair of legs at the entrance to his castle so you had to walk between them to get into the base. This joke has long since died and both Beef and Guude feel pretty bad about it iirc because there were people who genuinely thought Beef was disabled and were emailing him supportive messages and stuff oops. So if you go looking on the Salad or find old Mindcrack fics, you might see references to Beef having prosthetic legs!

Mindcrack also brought about the creation of several Player groups- Team Nancy Drew, Team Canada, and GOB to name a few relevant to Beef. Team Nancy Drew consists of Beef, Pauseunpause, Guude, and Baj, who formed to investigate a prank on one of the members but I forget who. They're named Nancy Drew after the detective! Team Canada also formed in retaliation to pranks, with it consisting of Beef, Etho, and Pause, the three Canadian members on the server (not including Adlington who moved to Canada but never joined the group). There was also a Team America who pranked them with American flags everywhere. GOB is Guude, OMGChad, and Beef, who played stuff like the Ragecraft, Pantheon, and Monstrosity ctms together but that's way down the line lol

Team Nancy Drew is also notable for inventing UHC. It was Beef's brainchild but it was the four of them who first played it! The first UHC had the four of them working to kill the dragon with no natural regen, with everyone dying but Beef, who "won" the UHC. The second uhc was still dragon focused and iirc is where Beef married the dragon? Memories are hazy but they do kill the dragon in this one I think. UHC was then revamped as a pvp event and became a regular Mindcrack game every few months, featuring most of the Mindcrackers and several special guests, including Dinnerbone, who as we know Thanos-snapped Doc's arm out of existence as a result of Doc killing him in one of them

In one of the seasons of Mindcrack, Beef invited swedish Mindcracker and good friend Anderzel to go caving with him and invented ABBA Rules caving, where the winner takes it all. ABBA Rules is a game where each ore (and also dungeon loot like nametags) is assigned a point value and the person with the most points at the end wins and gets to keep all the stuff collected from the game.

In Mindcrack season 3?, Beef punched the ender dragon in an... awkward area, so when the dragon died and left the egg behind, Guude said Beef was the father of the egg XD I don't remember if I watched s3 so I have no idea if anything Happened with this concept but *history of the world voice* you could make lore out of this!

So Team Canada has played a Lot of CTM maps (which fun fact were pretty much invented by another Mindcrack member, Vechs, with his Super Hostile series! Super Hostile has a bunch of things called "Zistonian", which are references to another Mindcrack member Zisteau, who has a very wild singleplayer series with even wilder lore but I digress). In Ruins of the Mindcrackers, they had a running joke that Beef was Etho and Pause's mom, which is a joke we can leave in the past actually /lh. They also played all the Diversity maps, Sky Factory, Terra Restore, Uncharted Territory uhhh and a couple more ctms and adventure maps! Each map kinda has its own story so in Diversity 3 for example they were trapped in a simulation? I think? Team Canada also recently played the Roguelike Adventures and Dungeons modpack, aka RAD, in which Beef was a wizard with a magic staff that could do anything from summon lightning to control hostile mobs.

Sourceblock SMP is a vanilla survival 1.14 series that ran for one season and the series starts with each of the Players being drawn to a strange sparkling water source that, once they touch it, brings them to the Sourceblock world. It also summons a giant zombie at one point. There's probably more lore for this series but like I said I haven't watched it all the way through yet

He has a Patreon server called VintageCraft and has done a series or two on there as well, and played a few UHCs with them, so lore that how you will!

Beef also played a few popular mods, notably Pixelmon, Life in the Woods, and Feed the Beast, with LitW being singleplayer and the other multiplayer. He's also recently played the Zoo and Wild Animals mod a lot. He did a short series with the Minecraft Comes Alive mod where he married one of the villagers and had two children, so that's canon now :D he’s played a Lot of Pixelmon starting when the mod first came out iirc (he chose Turtwig in his first series and built a Grass gym, then made a Normal gym in another series in uhh 2016) and he still plays to this day. Quite a few Hermits played on his Pixelmon servers with him, like Wels, Etho, Iskall, Stress, Slip, Zueljin, and also Guude and Phedran (a Mindcrack adjacent player and creator of the LitW modpack) and a few Mindcrackers on the older servers

Mindcrack and friends played a lot of other games too- 7 Days to Die, Ark Survival Evolved, Unturned, to name a few, so you can pull a lot of lore out of these as well. Speaking of friends and non-Minecraft games, Beef teamed up with Pause, Keralis, and Slip (a former Hermit) to play the horror game the Forest, which saw them stuck on an island trying to survive against terrifying mutated human... things. They played it a few times as the game updated but as afaik it's the first time Beef played with Keralis and possibly Slip and since the game starts with the Player's airplane crashing, that could totally be how Beef first met them in-universe

I... think? that’s everything I mentioned in the tags? There is probably way more stuff I’ve forgotten that stems from inside jokes and things that happen within each series, but I hope that was a) helpful and b) at least somewhat comprehensible lmao
