The Death Toll of the Earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria may have reached 20,000 people, and that’s outside of all those who are injured and lost.
If you could donate PLEASE do!!!
Here’s a post full of charities you could donate to, but I’ll add my own trustworthy ones here:
Islamic Relief:  teams are on the ground right now providing emergency food assistance, shelter, medical supplies to hospitals and clinics, as well as blankets and tents for those made homeless by the quake in Turkey and Syria
Molham: The team at Molham are currently on the ground helping displaced families in Turkey and Syria who have been affected by the earthquake
The White Helmets: The team are on the ground in Northwest Syria searching for survivors and removing the dead from the rubble.
MSF: remaining in close contact with the local authorities in northwestern Syria and with the authorities in Turkey to extend their support where it’s needed. They’re providing essential life kits to displaced people in the region
please PLEASE reblog. Syria and Turkiye need our help!!!

Only a few hours into 2024 (in my time zone), and Japan has experienced tons of earthquakes followed by the most urgent tsunami warning since 3/11.
I am terrifed.
I hate 2024 already. Please take it back.
For those concerned (and know Japanese), here's the livestream I'm watching. Rn it's essentially, "flee for your lives, while you still can!"
youtube
If you for whatever reason are living along the affected areas of the west coast of Japan rn and are bumming on tumblr instead of listening to the news, evacuate, NOW.

its a massive earthquake, its a terrible disaster. what makes my blood boil is the fact that people are dying now, 40 hours after the first earthquake, because the turkish goverment are not doing their job.
its politics at this point, the president claims that everything is under control but it is not. there are THOUSANDS of people still under the rubbles autorithies have not even checked THOUSANDS of buildings yet. its been 40 hours. people are freezing under the rubbles and even on streets.
there is not enough food or water for survivors. roads are blocked, some hospitals have collapsed alongside an airport. the survivors will need help for many days or weeks to come. 10 cities were affected. several cities were desteoyed almost completely. around 14 million people are living in the affected areas.
5000+ CONFIRMED deaths. 20000 CONFIRMED injured people. i have seen pictures of dead bodies in plastic bags lying around, and the math is simple confirmed numbers are not exact. its going to be the biggest disaster of the century for turkey. not just because the earthquake was devasting but because the goverment is incapable of organizing, accepting and arraning help from the military and other countries.
people are volunteering to gather supplies but its chaos. we do what we can.
i'm not writing this just to vent or upset anyone. just please know that it is still very critical and we need help. donate and spread awareness if you can.
many people from turkey will tell you that ahbap is the most reputable charity at the moment. there should be an english pop up in the official site. you can donate with credit card.
https://www.ahbap.org/haber
it is rahter heartbreaking that we have to trust a charity organization more than the goverment. this charity has been founded by a turkish rockstar and he is a hero in the eyes of millions of people, me included. please do what you can.

Please can you publish trustworthy links for donating to Syria so it helps reach the less supported people?
There are 3 main ones I know of (I have family in Syria that are directly affected)
1. Molham
I've included a link to where people can donate and here is a link to their twitter page where they're giving regular updates. Here's a third link to donate in Euros
Molham, to those who don't know, are specifically a non profit, non government team that have been providing relief for displaced & refugee Syrians. They're now helping out with the Earth Quake.
2. The White Helmets
Currently searching  for survivors and pull ing the dead from collapsed buildings
3. Islamic Relief (this link should work for all countries donating)
Has for a very long time been extremely reliable. I usually donate through them and they tend to help out people all cross the world. They currently have a team in Syria, last I've heard.
here's a link if you're donating specifically in Canada, UK, America,
Tumblr media
please PLEASE donate.
Even one dollar, one pound, can go a long way.
And if you can't, PLEASE reblog!!
Syria needs help too! Syria matters too! They're not receiving aid for a variety of political reasons and they desperately need it!!!

ok found The Tornado by owl city and it finally kicked me into finally fleshing out the little idea i had originally from Ao E Mukau-
Its a storm world constantly covered by thick clouds, ruins of towns and cities no longer used as the old societies broke down- Giyuu and Sabito were born on the knife's edge of that collapse before the constant deadly storms made living like they were nearly impossible
one of the worst thunder storms in decades ripped through a large swath of area; Giyuu & Tsutako's parents getting killed while Sabito's mother and little brother were killed hours later when it passed over them, they both continued on with what family they had left for a few years, just trying to get enough money for food on the table and a house over their heads
when they were 13 a massive, absolutely devestating tornado hit the town Sabito lived in in the middle of the night- he was making a quick trip to the store for midnight snacks and ended up dragging his bike into a little culvert under a road with him, it mostly protected one side but when it started getting really bad some small debris started flying through and one jaggedly cut across his cheek before he curled up to wait it out. Hours later when day shouldve broke & the storm had calmed, he crawled out to finally see the total destruction of the place he called home- there was almost nothing left. His heart broke as he realized just how lucky he is to be alive, and how his dad and little sister weren't. He ran into a group of survivors and got his cheek patched up by some of the medical professionals who stepped up to check everyone over; months later an earthquake hit the city Giyuu & Tsutako lived in, she had shoved a screaming Giyuu in the only little saftey box they had and Giyuu survived falling & getting violently tossed around when the building collapsed- he was stuck in it for a day or so, crying and screaming to be let out and for his sister to be okay, before search and rescue teams found him and pried it open. they thought he was dead at first before he woke up and started crying again when he saw the damage to the area, they treated the cut on his forhead and he ran away before they could put him in an orphanage with the other only-survivor kids

Dear mutuals,
I live in Turkey and we woke up to a nightmare yesterday.
Massive earthquakes destroyed 10 cities in our Southeast area. Thousands of people are still trying to survive under the rubble that was once their home. There have been a lot of callings for help on social media. Survivors are trying to send their location to their families to be rescued.
I'm only alive because I don't live in one of those cities. If I was, there is no doubt in my heart that I would be gone too 😭😭😭
I'm disabled so in such a disaster I wouldn't have the strength to get out on my own. Nobody would help me either. They can't even help healthy people to get out in time. I have read devastating tweets from people who lost their family members because help arrived too late to save them from the rubbles.
If you see my post, please pray for our people's safety and send help if you are able to. Mass destruction in 10 cities at the same time is much more than we can handle.
Please keep us in your thoughts, and help us if you can 🙏🙏🙏

MASSIVE EARTHQUAKE ROCKS TAIWAN KILLING SEVEN AND WOUNDING DOZENS
📹 Scenes from a massive 7.4 magnitude earthquake that rocked Taiwan on Tuesday night, killing at least seven people, or as many as nine according to other reports, and wounding as many as 800 others.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake, which struck shortly before midnight on Tuesday, caused extensive landslides and liquifaction of the ground, destroyed several buildings, and prompted Japan, Taiwan and the Philippines to issue tsunami warnings, which were later lifted.
The earthquake was felt from the Taiwanese capital of Taipei, to southern Japan, to as far away as eastern China and the Philippines.
The earthquake was among the strongest of its kind to hit Taiwan in over 25 years, with the worst damage being reported in the eastern city of Hualien, as well as the surrounding mountain countryside.

Earthquakes serve as turning points in Turkish history, a shattering of silence in mere seconds. In 1999, an earthquake struck near Istanbul, my hometown. More than 17,000 people were killed and many more injured. I had always known that earthquakes were something to be wary of, that they are expected in a country that sits on the Anatolian Plate bordering two major fault lines. But I had never lived through a quake before, or seen its aftermath. For weeks people slept outdoors—in parks, on the waterfront, in streets and stadiums—unable to go back to homes that had been destroyed, or afraid to return to homes still standing.
That disaster and the slow rescue operations that followed brought the AKP, or the Justice and Development Party, to power. It promised modern, transparent governance, and has led our country ever since. And yet it went on to waste decades protecting its own rule, luxuriating in its own ideological priorities, and failing to prepare for this catastrophe.
On Monday, two major earthquakes hit Turkey and Syria, leaving more than 11,000 people dead, four times that number injured, and many still missing. The World Health Organization has said that the death toll could rise to more than 20,000. In Turkey, close to 6,000 residential and commercial buildings collapsed.
The first earthquake, at magnitude 7.8, hit the city of Gaziantep, bordering Syria, soon after 4 a.m. as people slept. Approximately half a million refugees from the Syrian war are living there, refugees who must once again feel a horrific sense of displacement. Nine hours later, a 7.5-magnitude quake hit Kahramanmaraş province, about 60 miles to the north. Several Turkish cities were severely rocked. Aftershocks were felt in Greece, Cyprus, and Lebanon; they are still being felt.
About 380,000 people have taken refuge in hotels, dormitories, community centers, and other facilities. The pain is not over. Many people are still trapped under the rubble, and others are working to rescue them, in the freezing cold—the rain and snow alternating. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has declared a three-month state of emergency in the provinces hit hardest by the catastrophe, and declared seven days of national mourning. Because in Turkey, that’s what we do: Today we mourn, and tomorrow we forget, until the next tragedy.
But the Turkish people have questions: Where did the billions of dollars they paid in “earthquake taxes” since the 1999 catastrophe go? Why were the construction codes aimed at making structures more quake-resistant not followed? Why, despite experts’ warnings and politicians’ promises, was more not done to prevent all this death?
