lyrics: But when he loves me, I feel like I'm floating/ When he calls me pretty, I feel like somebody from "Cloud 9" by Beach Bunny
word count: ~850 words
Tumblr media
“I’m bored,” Kuroo laments with a sigh as he leans his elbows beside the cash register, the exact spot that Yaku is attempting to clean.
The irritated blond hits his dark-haired co-worker in the back of head with the rag in his hand. “Complaining isn’t going to make the time go by any faster.”
Kuroo glares at Yaku in annoyance, and seems prepared to verbally retaliate, but Kai, who is fiddling with some equipment, chimes in: “I don’t think we’re going to be busy today.”
This observation causes both Yaku and Kuroo to groan because they’re aware that Kai is right. It’s a rainy day and the coffee shop they work at is located on a quiet street, so they probably shouldn’t expect a ton of customers today. Yaku knows this at least means he can get away with finishing his homework that is due tomorrow during his shift.
Then, almost as if on cue, the little bell over the coffee shop’s entrance rings, signalling that someone is entering. Yaku’s eyes are immediately drawn to the door and the instant his gaze lands on you, his entire body goes stiff. Kuroo takes advantage of Yaku’s delayed reaction and quickly glides away from the cash register to assist Kai.
As a result, Yaku is the one forced to take your order.
This isn’t your first time here: you started frequenting the establishment approximately a month ago, and the moment Yaku saw you, it was infatuation at first sight. Since your initial visit to the coffee shop, you’ve stopped by a few times during his shift and he’s also noticed you strolling through his university campus, leading him to conclude that you’re also a student there.
Alas, poor Yaku, who is usually blunt and straightforward, hasn't been able to strike a proper conversation with you, aside from asking for your order, and now Kuroo is forcing him to talk to you.
“Hi,” Yaku attempts to chirpily greet you as you approach the counter with a dazzling smile. “What can I get for you?”
He is ready for you to give your usual order, but you catch him off guard by inquiring, “Do you have any recommendations?”
“Our coffee is good,” is the first thing that Yaku can think of and, unfortunately, the first thing that leaves his lips. He hears Kuroo stifle a laugh behind him (to Kuroo, seeing a flustered Yaku is as rare as Kenma willingly taking the same shift as his other co-worker, Lev), as you give him a confused look. Yaku rapidly composes himself and provides a more elaborate response, “I would recommend any of our lattes, like our chai tea latte or matcha latte.”
“The chai tea latte sounds good! I’ll have that! Regular please.”
Yaku nods and, within a matter of seconds, he processes your order. Once you pay, you stand off to the side and begin scrolling through your phone as you wait for Kai to make your beverage. The brown-eyed boy takes this opportunity to steal a few glances at you. He doesn’t want to come as a creep staring at you yet, he cannot help, but admire you. Yaku wants to say something to you, anything really, in hopes of starting a conversation.
His thoughts are abruptly interrupted when Kai taps him on the shoulder and hands him your order.
“Here you go!” Yaku announces, grabbing your attention.
“Thank you,” you cheerfully respond with that same brilliant smile as you take your drink. There’s something about the way that you’re looking at him right now with such kind eyes that causes his heart to beat against his chest rapidly.
“You’re pretty,” Yaku ends up blurting out, and what follows is a deafening silence. You gape at him, utterly shocked by what he just said. As he mentally chastises himself for being a dumbass, Yaku exclaims, “I’m sorry!”
Not waiting for your reply, he bolts to the storage room in the back of the coffee shop and slams the door behind him. He commences pacing back and forth in the small space, completely absorbed by his thoughts that he doesn’t hear when you leave and isn’t aware of how long he’s been in there. All he can focus on is how uncomfortable he must have made you feel and how he wishes the ground would swallow him up, so that he doesn’t have to live with this embarrassment.
Eventually, he realizes that Kuroo is casually leaning against the doorframe, simply watching him have a meltdown.
“I don’t want to deal with your teasing right now,” Yaku states, as he runs a hand across his face.
“Hey, I wasn’t going to say anything!” Kuroo defensively claims as he holds out a folded napkin to Yaku. “Just came to give you this.”
Yaku eyes the lanky guy in front of him suspiciously before taking the napkin and unfolding it. On the napkin, there is a short message scribbled in black pen that reads “I think you’re pretty too” followed by a phone number.
Because of these five words and assortment of numbers, a heavy weight has been lifted off of Yaku's shoulders, making him to feel as light as a feather, and he cannot stop a grin from spreading across his face.

trope: friends to lovers
lyrics: i don’t wanna be your friend, i wanna kiss your neck from "fallingforyou" by the 1975 (this reminded me to go back and listen to the 1975 more lol)
word count: ~850 words
Tumblr media
Iwaizumi is in a predicament.
When a bored Oikawa called him to ask if he wanted to go see a movie this afternoon, he agreed. When Oikawa had asked if it was alright if he invited some other people, Iwaizumi agreed to this as well and assumed that it would just be Hanamaki and Matsukawa.
What Oikawa had failed to mention is that, in addition to inviting his teammates, he had also invited you.
And this is how Iwaizumi ended up sitting beside you in the dark theater.
See, over the course of your three years at Aoba Johsai, you managed to become friends with the third-years on the school’s volleyball team. But, lately, the way Iwaizumi looked at you started to change.
A few weeks ago, on a random Monday, the ace thought you looked particularly cute. Immediately, Iwaizumi commenced panicking over the fact that he thought you, his friend, were cute. This led to a downward spiral and Iwaizumi eventually came to the conclusion that he had developed a crush on you. And this realization resulted in him acting bashfully whenever you are in the vicinity, which Oikawa has unfortunately picked up on.
As he sits shoulder-to-shoulder with you, he cannot help, but glance over at you every few minutes and each time he sees how entranced you are by the film. Your eyebrows are scrunched together, and your soft-looking lips are slightly parted. Iwaizumi begins to wonder how your lips would feel against his. How it would feel like to leave a trail of kisses across your jaw down to your neck…
As soon as this thought enters his head, Iwaizumi can sense his face growing red and he is grateful that the room’s dim lighting would prevent you from noticing this if you happened to look over at him.
After the movie finishes, you all head outside and the sun is shining brightly, a stark contrast to where you have all been sitting for the past two hours.
“Hey, a new cafe opened up a few streets over,” you remark as your group loiters at the entrance of the cinema. “Do you guys want to check it out?”
“Sorry, I can’t. I have plans,” Oikawa responds without hesitation as his eyes briefly flicker between you and Iwaizumi.
“I thought you didn’t have any plans for today?” you point out with a narrowed look.
“Well…” Oikawa trails off, seemingly at a loss for words. Then he suddenly snaps his fingers and proclaims, “It turns out that my sister needs someone to babysit Takeru in like an hour, so I volunteered.”
You shrug at the captain’s excuse before turning to face the others. “Are the rest of you free?”
“Actually, Matsu and Makki are helping me babysit,” Oikawa blurts out, throwing his arms over the shoulders of his fellow third-years.
“All three of you are babysitting one kid?” Iwaizumi inquires, his knowing glare directed at his childhood friend.
“Yes?” Makki says, but his response sounds more like a question than a definitive answer.
“Kids…”  Matsukawa chimes in, though he looks somewhat confused. “Just one can be a handful.”
“I know that Iwaizumi doesn’t have any plans, Y/N. Why don’t you go together?!
You cast your gaze over at the wing spiker and quirk an eyebrow at him, as if silently asking if he is fine with this.
“Y-yeah, I’m free to go with you, Y/N,” Iwaizumi affirms, trying to come off as calm and collected as possible. It seems like forever since he last hung out with you one-on-one, and the prospect of spending some alone time with you excites him.
“Alright! You two have fun on your date!” Oikawa loudly exclaims with a roguish smirk. Before Iwaizumi can chastise the setter for his comment, he quickly scurries away, while simultaneously dragging Hanamaki and Matsukawa with him.
Iwaizumi watches the receding figures of his so-called friends, and he cannot believe they would do this to him. Well, that’s not true. A plot like this is obviously something Oikawa would scheme. And Makki and Matsu occasionally enjoy witnessing Iwa lose his cool. But this doesn’t prevent Iwaizumi from feeling betrayed right now.
How can they call this a date in front of you and then ditch him? Don’t they understand how awkward they’ve made this moment for him?
Fortunately, your light laughter pulls Iwaizumi back to reality and he gawks at your reaction.
“So, are you ready for our date?” you say with a playful gleam in your eye, which causes his heart rate to rapidly increase.
Your friend doesn’t know how to reply to this, so he ends up shyly answering your question with a question, “Is it a date?”
“Do you want it to be a date?”
Iwaizumi can assert with certainty that he wasn’t expecting the words coming out of your mouth to be accompanied by a scarlet blush and it gives him a glimmer of hope. He has been so scared to confess to you these past few weeks, but it seems that perhaps his feelings for you are reciprocated.
Therefore, despite still being a little nervous about doing so, he finds the courage to firmly state: “Yes.”

trope: childhood friends to lovers
lyrics: You give to me/ Everything, anything that I could dream/ And at least that's what it seems/ Could it be I don't know what's good for me? from "the feeling" by justin bieber
word count: ~850 words
Tumblr media
Kuroo is in a sour mood as he locks the door to the clubroom, and he absolutely blames Yaku for his current disposition.
They were the last ones left in said clubroom when the libero asked if you had mentioned anything about the ace of Nohebi, Numai Kazuma. To say this inquiry flabbergasted the captain would be an understatement and he pressed Yaku for further details.
Apparently, prior to their match against Nohebi yesterday, Yaku went to use the bathroom, and on his way to the restroom, he saw you talking with Numai. And, according to his fellow third-year, the wing spiker seemed kind of flirty.
“Did he ask Y/N out?!” Kuroo demanded, which earned him an eye roll from Yaku.
“I don’t know! Eavesdropping is rude! Besides, why are you so curious? I thought you weren’t interested in Y/N romantically,” Yaku remarked before going home for the day. And it was true, Kuroo repeatedly reiterated to anyone who believed he was your boyfriend that you were simply friends.
He’s known you ever since he moved next door to Kenma and, because you lived around the corner, were around the same age and went to the same school, it helped you two develop a solid friendship that involves a lot of relentless teasing.
Despite this harmless taunting, there is a tenderness to your dynamic and Kuroo can't imagine what he would do without you. You attend nearly all of his matches, help him study when he needs assistance and are eager to hang out on the weekends if neither of you have plans. Plus, there are the little, sweet things that you did for him that he greatly appreciated, such as occasionally stopping by the gym during practice to surprise him with his favorite snacks.
Really, to him, you were everything he could have hoped for in a close friend.
Now, as he heads to the school’s entrance, where he knows you are patiently waiting to walk home together, Kuroo’s palms start growing clammy, he feels like an icy hand is tightly clutching his heart and there is a gnawing sensation in his gut. What was the catalyst for this physical reaction? Perhaps it was because he didn’t want you dating anyone from Nohebi? However, he knew didn’t have any right to tell you who you could and couldn’t flirt with and/or date.
With each step, he wonders why you didn’t tell him about Numai and whether he asked you out. If you had a significant other, would your small yet considerate gestures towards him cease? Would your friendship change? Would you gradually drift apart? If so, would it feel like you were galaxies away from him?
Before he knows it, he’s nearing the front gate and he sees you there, casually leaning against it as you mindlessly scroll through your phone. The sound of his familiar footsteps alerts you of his presence, and when you gaze up, you see your friend approaching you with a gloomy expression.
“What’s wrong?” you curiously ask once Kuroo is close enough. The middle blocker stops in front of you and looks directly into your eyes, which are brimming with concern, and he cannot contain the emotions accumulating in his chest.
“Was Numai flirting with you yesterday?” he blurts out, which causes your eyebrows to shoot up.
“How did you know about that?”
“Yaku told me,” Kuroo bashfully admits.
“Oh,” you respond, taken aback by how shy your usually extroverted friend is acting. “He was. It wasn’t anything serious, though.”
Now it’s Kuroo’s turn to say, “Oh.”
An awkward silence follows because Kuroo doesn’t know how to interpret your words and actions. You look and sound chill about Nohebi’s player flirting with you while he feels dread creeping up on him.
Eventually, he manages to get out the question that has been racking his brain: “Did he ask you out?”
“He did,” you admit. “But I turned him down.”
“That’s good,” Kuroo sighs in relief, as if the weight of the Earth has been lifted from his shoulders. He quickly realizes what he said and adds, “I mean, good for you for not going out with anyone from Nohebi. I don’t trust that team, it’s full of snakes.”
“Why doesn’t that shock me?” you playfully reply, but you notice that Kuroo still appears perturbed, and it makes your heart race. Because you’re pretty sure he’s jealous. And you’ve never seen him this jealous before.
This hunch is what gives you the courage to state: “You know, if you asked me out instead, I wouldn’t say no.”
You turn and begin walking away and Kuroo just watches your receding figure, completely stupefied. It then dawns on him that your statement contained two negatives and the science-obsessed part of his brain activates and registers that two negatives make a positive.
“Y/N! Wait up!” Kuroo calls out as he commences sprinting after you, adrenaline pumping through his veins.
Your words have brought his mind at ease, and it is finally clear what he needs to do for his own sanity.
He needs to ask you one last question.

ft: timeskip atsumu x reader
song #: song #17 on the playlist is "Butter" by BTS! i may have burst out laughing when i saw i had to write something for atsumu based on this song.
Tumblr media
Miya Atsumu considers himself smooth.
When he was in high school, he was popular, but his celebrity status truly skyrocketed after becoming a professional volleyball player, which helped inflate his already enormous ego.
And with so many eyes on him all the time, Atsumu thought he had perfected the art of being charming and suave.
But his world is rattled when he meets you at a party hosted by the JVA.
It is a charity event, where everyone, dressed in their best attire, socializes in an elegant ballroom while sipping champagne and snacking on miniature versions of fancy foods.
He is hanging out with Hinata and Bokuto, who are devouring some shrimp, when, out of the corner of his eye, he spots you.
You, the most stunning person at the event, and probably the most gorgeous person he’s ever seen.
You, for some reason unknown to Atsumu, are conversing animatedly with a tired-looking Sakusa, and he is positive that the outside hitter is plotting a way to escape the party early.
Hinata and Bokuto realize that Atsumu is staring at you, completely captivated by your presence, and the blond vaguely registers his teammates telling him that you are an up-and-coming sports journalist.
Several questions start spiraling through his mind: why are you, a beautiful sports journalist, choosing to speak with Sakusa? If you wanted to speak with a volleyball star, why haven’t you approached him yet?
He’s certain he would be significantly more fun to talk to than Sakusa.
So, when Atsumu notices Sakusa stroll away, leaving you by yourself, he doesn’t waste a second in approaching you.
He has everything planned out: the opening line to use on you, the perfect cocky smile he’s going to give you, etc.
However, his strategy is instantly shattered because you discern him coming towards you and, before he can get a word out, you exclaim, “Well, if it isn’t the infamous Miya Atsumu!”
The setter is totally caught off guard, the rehearsed smile on his face falters and his eyebrows furrow in confusion.
“Infamous?” Atsumu repeats quizzically. “Doesn’t that mean being known for something bad?”
His bewilderment causes you to lightly laugh and the tips of his ears begin turning bright red.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to imply that you’ve done anything bad! It’s just that, when I hang out with Omi, I’ve had to occasionally listen to him vent about you,” you quickly respond.
“Omi?” Atsumu asks, still very puzzled.
He is wondering why you’re so familiar with Sakusa and why his supposedly loyal teammate has been talking trash about him to a journalist.
“I guess he hasn’t mentioned me?” you speculate, based upon Atsumu’s perplexed facial expression.  “That’s not surprising, he doesn’t talk about his personal life a lot. I’ve actually been friends with him and Komori since high school.”
“Oh,” is the only answer Atsumu can manage to conjure up because he now cannot comprehend how Sakusa, his own trusted teammate, failed to inform him about his hot friend.
You take his simple remark as an invitation to continue: “Yeah, when I’m with the two of them, Omi sometimes complains about what an annoying pain in the ass you can be and how you sulk a lot when your brother refuses to give you free onigiri.”
“I am going to kill Omi tomorrow,” is the only thing racing through Atsumu’s mind because he is horrified that this is the impression you have of him.
Mercifully, someone comes up to you, which allows your attention to be momentarily drawn away from the speechless setter.
The person whispers something into your ear, points at a group of people across the room then scurries away.
When your gaze returns to Atsumu, you give an apologetic look and say, “Sorry, it seems that I’m needed elsewhere. But if you’re free later, I’d really like to get to know you.”
All Atsumu can do is gulp and nod his head eagerly at your suggestion.
“You’re really cute when you’re flustered,” you chuckle with a sly smile before heading off.
As he watches you leave, he can feel the heat rising to his entire face.
“Oh my god,” Atsumu whispers to himself because all it took was one conversation for you to break into his heart and turn him into putty in your hands.

ft: timeskip sugawara x reader
trope: best friends to lovers
lyrics: There'll be no more darkness/ When you believe in yourself, you are unstoppable/ Where your destiny lies, dancing on the blades/ You set my heart on fire from "History Maker" by Dean Fujioka
word count: ~850 words
Tumblr media
Sugawara isn’t sure if it's fate or destiny that brought you, his best friend since middle school, back to Miyagi, but he doesn’t care. He’s utterly ecstatic.
You, like Sugawara, had decided to become a teacher, but your paths diverged a few years ago when you chose to teach in Tokyo. You were eager to be in a new environment after living in Miyagi prefecture for so long and it wasn’t difficult for Sugawara to be jovial on your behalf.
Once you were gone, Sugawara learned the true meaning of “absence makes the heart grow fonder”. Initially, not having you around was weird. Then slowly, it started to feel as if you took a piece of his heart with you.
When he visited you in Tokyo for the first time, you picked him up at the train station, and the second he saw your grinning face, the void in his heart was instantly filled. And it was also in this moment that he began to fall in love with you: his best friend, his most trusted confidant, and the person he had no trouble being unabashedly chaotic around.
Some might find it daunting to be in love with their best friend, but not Sugawara. He thinks he is fortunate that his heart is drawn to someone he knows, without a doubt, cares about him and his well-being.
What mostly concerned him was changing your dynamic while living so far apart from each other, which is why he never confessed. He didn’t want to complicate things, especially since you were looking forward to relishing your time in Tokyo. Sugawara wanted you to live your best life in the bustling city without any unease or distractions from back home.
But you’re back. A teaching position in Sugawara’s school suddenly became available and you decided to take it, in order to be closer to friends and family. This definitely caused Sugawara to consider that some higher power was urging him to make a move.
And he plans to do so right now, at the restaurant you are currently dining at.
After assisting you with unpacking all your stuff in your new apartment, Sugawara suggested going out for dinner. The restaurant is the one you two always used to go to, whether it was to celebrate one another’s accomplishments or to lift the other’s mood. To him, it seems like the appropriate place to reveal that he sees you as more than a friend.
The scene feels very familiar to Sugawara: you and him, waiting for the dessert to arrive at the table, and you are laughing so hard at the story you are telling that there are tears forming in the corners of your eyes. Yet, he knows this will not be an ordinary dinner.
“Don’t be nervous,” he mentally repeats to himself, as he half-listens to what you’re saying.
He subconsciously stretches his arms along the length of the table that is separating the two of you in an attempt to relieve any worries. Sugawara doesn’t even realize how distracted he must appear until he senses the warmth of your hand on top of his. His gaze immediately shifts to your eyes, which possess a knowing look.
“Your hands are cold,” you remark, before pulling your hand away. “You’re nervous about something.”
The former setter cannot help, but chuckle at how easily you can read him and, strangely, your comment helps dispel his anxieties. That’s simply the effect you’ve always had on him. You truly are a light during his dark times that brings him hope and comfort. Perhaps you’ll say you don’t feel the same way about him, and things will be awkward between the two of you for a while. That’s fine, though. Sugawara knows that you can weather any storm together.
“You know me too well,” Sugawara admits with a bashful smile as he leans back in his seat, fully appreciating your beauty beneath the dim restaurant lighting. “I was nervous because of what I’m about to tell you: I really like you, Y/N. And not just as my best friend. I started falling in love with you when you moved away. I’m sorry I didn’t say it sooner, but I’m telling you how I feel now. If you don’t feel the same way, that’s okay.”
Once Sugawara finishes his small speech, you remain quiet and stare at him, completely stupefied. He isn’t sure what reaction he was expecting from you, but your silence makes him believe that you’re trying to figure out how to reject him gently.
Thus, he is shocked when you reach out to take out his hand once more and the first thing that comes out of your mouth is, “I’m glad to know that my feelings for you aren’t one-sided.”
Your words suddenly make his heart feel less heavy, as if the dread of your rejection was something he had unknowingly been carrying. However, his heart somehow also feels full because you just said you loved him, and your bright smile is directed at him. There are various emotions swelling through his heart, but one thing is for certain.
His heart will forever be yours.

song #: song #37 on the playlist is My Type by Saint Motel. idk if it's just me, but i feel like this song suits noya? feel free to disagree lol
Tumblr media
In high school, Nishinoya’s love life was kind of nonexistent.
Essentially, he easily became infatuated with any beautiful girl he laid eyes on and whenever he approached someone he was attracted to…well, he certainly wasn’t as suave as he was on the volleyball court.
And he hasn’t had any luck in finding “the one” since graduating, mostly because he has been busy hopping from one country to the next.
Fortunately, Ennoshita has chosen to meddle in his old teammate’s love life, just this once.
See, Ennoshita had the pleasure of meeting you at university and, as he gradually got to learn more about you, he thought, “I think that Noya would really like Y/N.”
So, Ennoshita decides to play matchmaker at a small party he is hosting at his apartment to celebrate his new job as a physical therapist.
Nishinoya is currently in Japan because he wanted to join in on the celebration and you are going to be there as well: truly the ideal opportunity to introduce you to one another.
And your timing is impeccable the night of the party.
Nishinoya and Ennoshita are conversing in the living room, when the latter notices you, accompanied by some other friends, stepping through the front door.
Ennoshita turns to Nishinoya, ready to say something about your arrival, but he sees that the world-traveller is already staring at you.
Well, gawking at you, jaw dropped, would be more accurate.
Ennoshita is somewhat surprised at Nishinoya’s silence, as he was ready to be bombarded with questions like, “Ennoshita, who is that?!” or “Ennoshita, why didn’t you tell me you have a gorgeous friend?!”
If Ennoshita had to venture a guess, he’d say that just your very presence has made Noya timid.
As you begin approaching them, Nishinoya blurts out, “I’m going to get another drink!”
His getaway plan is quickly thwarted by Ennoshita, though, who wraps a firm arm around his shoulder, thus preventing him from escaping the situation.
“Hey Ennoshita!” you animatedly cry out, with a wide grin.
“Hey Y/N! I’m glad you could make it,” Ennoshita greets before adding. “Y/N, this is my friend from high school, Nishinoya. We used to be in the volleyball club together. Noya, this is Y/N, my friend from university.”
“It’s nice to meet you!” you politely greet, your warm gaze falling on Nishinoya, which causes him to blush profusely.
“Y-yeah, it’s nice to meet you too,” Nishinoya manages to stutter out, struggling to meet your eyes.
The former libero doesn’t know what it is, but there is something about you that is…different.
This isn’t the first time he has immediately started crushing on a pretty person, but you’re, like, the prettiest person he has ever seen.
And never has his heart raced this quickly over someone before and it’s making him a nervous wreck.
Ennoshita senses his raven-haired friend’s nerves, so he lets go of his shoulder and decides to help him commence a conversation: “Y/N, Noya has actually been travelling the world recently. He was literally in South Korea yesterday.”
“No way!” you enthusiastically remark. “I’ve always wanted to travel more, and South Korea is definitely a country I would love to explore. What parts of South Korea did you visit?”
You are exuding such a friendly, welcoming aura as you speak that Nishinoya cannot help, but relax a bit.
Nishinoya answers your question then regales you with stories of his time in South Korea, as you listen attentively, and, promptly, the conversation between you two flows effortlessly and naturally.
Soon, you and Noya are so absolutely absorbed in your own little world that neither of you are aware of when Ennoshita leaves in order to mingle with his other guests.
Throughout the night, Nishinoya can’t pinpoint what it is about you that has this effect on him: How have you made him so bashful? What is it about you that makes him want to talk to you until dawn? Why is completely captivated by you?
All he knows is that this spark he has with you is something special that he should treasure.
So, he asks if you want to hang out the following day, to which you say "yes".

a/n: more angst once again. but i'm starting to really enjoy writing angst. what does that say about me?
Tumblr media
“I’m so sorry for having to cancel our plans to go to the farmer’s market this weekend,” Kita hears you dramatically sigh through the phone. He can practically picture your pouty face, which he has always found endearing.
“Don’t worry about it. We can go another time and I promise to make you a delicious meal with what we buy afterwards,” your silver-haired friend assures you as he looks out his kitchen window at the pinkish sky and the setting sun.
“You’re too nice to me, Shin. I swear I will make it up to you!” you promise eagerly, and Kita softly chuckles.
“Seriously, you don’t have to make it up to me, Y/N,” he gently states. He pauses then adds, “So, where is your boyfriend taking you to celebrate your job promotion?”
“You know the restaurant we went to with Aran and Omimi a few months ago, but I didn’t enjoy the food that much? That one.”
Your response causes Kita’s eyebrows to furrow in confusion and, without thinking, he replies, “Why would he take you to a restaurant you didn’t like?”
His puzzled reaction makes you laugh, and you explain, “He went there recently with some of his friends, and he liked the food! Apparently, they revamped the menu and got a new chef! I’m actually looking forward to trying it out on Saturday.”
“Oh, that should be fun,” Kita remarks, attempting to come off as enthusiastic.
It isn’t that he doesn’t like your boyfriend. You have been dating him for just over three years, so Kita has met him countless times and he's definitely a genuinely good guy. Honestly, Kita is glad that you are in a loving relationship, but it does hurt to see you with someone else when he’s been enamoured with you since high school.
When you were both first-years at Inarizaki, you joined the volleyball club as the team manager and, instantly, the wing spiker was drawn to you. Amid a sea of rowdy teenage boys, all impatient to show off their athletic prowess, you were a calming presence that he appreciated. This led to you and Kita conversing frequently and a strong friendship was thus produced.
He cannot remember when he started falling in love with you. The realization that he likes you romantically simply hit him: Suna had made some off-handed comment about you and the captain looking like a couple and you two scolded him. Later that day, Suna’s words ate away at him, until he came to acknowledge that his feelings for you weren’t merely platonic.
He never revealed any of this to you because he didn’t want to ruin your friendship. You repeatedly expressed how fortunate you were to have such a close, reliable friend like him. Not wanting to upset your dynamic, Kita decided to conceal his love, which wasn’t a difficult task, since he had perfected the art of constantly maintaining a composed facade and demeanor.
Over the years, some of his former teammates did catch onto his feelings towards you and they did their best to encourage him to confess, but to no avail. Kita doesn’t regret choosing to remain silent about his true feelings, though, because whenever you talk about your boyfriend, your eyes light up and a huge smile graces your lips. You tell him that you are certain he is the love of your life, your soulmate, the person you see yourself growing old with.
He is content that you found someone who makes you feel like you are the most beautiful and wonderful person in the world.
Still…Kita knows he could make you feel like the center of his universe.
If he was your boyfriend, he would cook you an amazing meal to celebrate your job promotion. Or if you preferred to go out, he would take you to your favorite restaurant.
If he was your boyfriend, he would make you a soothing cup of tea at the end of each day, while listening to you vent about work.
If he was your boyfriend, he would be your shoulder to cry on.
If he was your boyfriend, he would surprise you with breakfast in bed on the weekends.
If he was your boyfriend, he would send random “I love you” texts throughout the day in order to remind you how cherished you are.
He would. He really would.
But he can’t because you love your boyfriend. Not him.
“We’re about to go see a movie, so I have to head out,” you say, your voice bringing Kita back to reality. “I’ll talk to you later, alright?”
“Alright,” Kita answers, leaning against his kitchen counter. “Take care.”
And with that, the call ends, but the rice farmer continues to stare out the window longingly. It now dawns on him that you remind him of the sunset: something warm and cheerful that he admires from afar yet can never hold tightly.
It’s fine, though, because you are happy and that’s all that matters.

ft.: oikawa x reader
song #: song #26 on the playlist is "el perdón" by nicky jam and enrique iglesias. of course oikawa somehow ended up with a spanish song lol.
a/n: this is just angst. sorry .-.
Tumblr media
It’s well past midnight and Oikawa realizes he should be sleeping, but he is instead silently sitting in his dimly lit living room, staring at the screen of his phone with pursed lips.
He cannot tear his gaze away from the engagement party photos you posted on Instagram because you look absolutely radiant.
Oikawa should be ecstatic that you found someone who treasures you and who you adore with every fiber of your being.
But the ache in his heart remains because, no matter how much he tries to deny it, he is still in love with you.
Oikawa’s known you since your first year of high school and he can recall being captivated by you the moment your eyes met during homeroom.
Unfortunately, he didn’t ask you out until you were third-years because he kept reminding himself that he needed to focus on making it to Nationals.
However, during his last year at Aoba Johsai, he couldn’t allow his feelings for you to quietly simmer any longer, so he finally confessed to you.
After that, you began dating and everything seemed perfect: Oikawa showered you with so much affection and you truly believed that no one else could make you happier than him.
Months later, Oikawa decided to move to Argentina to pursue his dream of playing volleyball professionally and you fully supported him.
And the two of you promised that you would figure out a way to make your relationship work.
You had relatives and friends who were skeptical of you having a long-distance relationship with a guy you had been dating for barely a year, but the setter was prepared to prove that there was no need for concern.
He swore that he would strive to fight for you and to love you eternally.
At the start, you and Oikawa texted each other all the time and spoke on the phone frequently, every call ending with “I love you”.
You visited each other as often as possible, and Oikawa looked forward to showing you around the South American country he now regarded as home.
Despite your efforts, the distance and time difference took its toll, little by little.
As you settled into your young adult lives, Oikawa became busy with his team and with laying down roots in Argentina while you focused on your own aspirations in Japan.
Scheduling flights and calls became challenging and the communication between you two commenced to falter.
You and Oikawa were aware of this and thus agreed to have a video call when neither of your schedules were hectic, so you could have a serious discussion.
Oikawa really did want to be with you, but during this conversation, he had inquired if you would ever consider moving to Argentina permanently and you hesitated in your response.
In this moment of hesitation, he could read the conflicting emotions in your eyes.
Oikawa knew he was basically asking if you would be willing to upend your life in Japan and be apart from your loved ones for his sake.
And he knew he didn’t foresee himself leaving Argentina.
So, as you attempted to come up with a plan to make things work, Oikawa declared that it would be best if you broke up.
And your heartbroken expression haunts him to this day.
Following the breakup, Oikawa did feel some alleviation because he didn’t have to fret over putting in effort into a long-distance relationship.
As the months passed, though, loneliness and the sensation of being incomplete slowly crept up on him and by the time he comprehended that your absence in his life was the cause of this, you were already dating someone else.
And now, you are marrying that person.
Oikawa wishes that he could run into the moonlit street and scream your name into the darkness, in hopes that you would suddenly materialize in front of him.
Then he could tell you how sorry he is.
Sorry that he didn’t ask you out sooner, sorry for contributing to the lack of communication, sorry for not maintaining his promise to fight for you and sorry for giving up so easily on your relationship.
But he understands that these words would be futile, so he turns off his phone and shuffles into his empty bedroom, conscious of the fact that you will remain in his heart for evermore.

Oikawa Tooru is stressed.
The past few months in Argentina have been an absolute whirlwind, packed with strenuous practices, intense matches, lengthy interviews, intricate photoshoots, etc. and he is beginning to feel worn out. Yes, he is living his dream of playing volleyball professionally, but he is entitled to a break.
And he has finally earned his break: he is returning to Japan for two weeks to see his friends and family.
However, on the day of his flight, there had been arrangements for his team to have a magazine photoshoot in the morning. Oikawa assumed he would have enough time to make it to the airport, but, unfortunately, the photographer was late due to traffic caused by the extremely rainy weather. Then, the photoshoot ended up running longer than anticipated. This eventually resulted in Oikawa not having enough time to change out of his outfit and he had to rush to the airport dressed to the nines in a grey three-piece suit.
When he arrives at the departing gate, he is thoroughly drenched from the downpour and attempting to catch his breath, after literally sprinting to make sure he made his flight. To his dismay, he looks at the prompter and notices that, due to the rain, the plane won’t take off for a few hours.
At this point, his mood is as bleak as the weather outside. He is supposed to be on his way to a mini vacation, but instead his fatigue has accumulated. He ends up dragging his carry-on suitcase to an empty seat in the waiting area and plopping down into the slightly uncomfortable seat with a thud.
“Damn it,” he angrily mutters to himself.
Before Oikawa can lament his misfortune any further, he hears someone nearby clear their throat and gently inquire, “Are you alright?”
He glances over to see you, with your eyebrows knitted in concern, and he swears that, cliché as it may sound, his heart skips a beat. There is no other way he can describe you, except captivating. There is something about your presence that he is instantly drawn, almost like a moth to a flame.
“Sir?” you ask, the tone of your voice sounding more confused this time. The realization that he has been silently gawking at you hits Oikawa like a ton of bricks and he is suddenly worried that his cheeks are visibly growing red.
Normally, when someone questions him about how he’s doing, Oikawa will reply with “I’m fine”, no matter if this statement is true or not. But there is something about your gaze that makes it impossible for him to deliver his usual response, so he opts to push his brown damp bangs out of his eyes and sigh, “Is it that obvious I’m not alright?”
“Yeah, I would say so,” you remark, closing the book that you had been reading. “It’s not every day you see a handsome guy in a fancy suit run through the airport with a panicked look on his face.”
“It’s been a rough day,” Oikawa admits before adding, “Although, being called handsome has significantly improved my mood.”
“I was being objective when I called you handsome,” you retort while rolling your eyes. “So, do you want to talk about your rough day?”
Oikawa chuckles in disbelief and states, “I don’t want to bore you.”
“Hey, we’re stuck here until the rain lets up and this book isn’t very interesting,” you shrug, while gesturing to the paperback novel resting in your lap. “Besides, everyone deserves to vent once in a while.”
Again, Oikawa finds himself in utter awe of you. He hasn’t really talked to anyone about being overwhelmed lately and here you are, a complete stranger, offering to listen to what he has to say.
And he decides to take you up on your offer.
After exchanging names with one another, he begins telling you about all the things that have been stressing him out lately while you attentively listen. When you reveal that you were unaware of him being a professional volleyball player, he starts talking about his love for the sport. Soon, you two end up chatting about your passions, hobbies, likes, dislikes, and such.
Throughout your conversation, Oikawa notices that, gradually, his frustrations and stress are evaporating, and his mood is no longer dreary as the cloudy skies. It’s like you added a pop of color to his monochrome day that he didn’t know he needed.
You are wrapping up recounting a tale from your solo vacation in Buenos Aires, when you abruptly ask, “Feeling better?”
“Definitely,” Oikawa affirms. “But there is one thing that would make me feel a hundred times better.”
“And what is that?”
“You agreeing to go on a date with me when we get to Japan,” he answers with a smug smile.
Now you are the one blushing, but you still manage to grin and say, “I think that can be arranged.”
Whether meeting you was a coincidence, a miracle, fate or some divine intervention, Oikawa doesn't care because he is grateful.
He is grateful because, deep down, he knows that his meeting you is not simply a fleeting encounter.

ft: bokuto x reader
song #: song #4 on the playlist is "Love Story" by Indila, which is really pretty french song. gotta admit, this is going be some cheesy fluff >_<
Tumblr media
Generally, Bokuto is perceived as someone who oozes pride and confidence.
Today, though, he is a nervous wreck and it is all because of you: Bokuto invited you, his dearly beloved significant other, to have dinner at his apartment tonight at 7 and he is planning on asking you to move in with him.
The MSBY Black Jackals know the reason why their outside hitter is so stressed, but they are surprised to see him somewhat distant.
Throughout practice, the other players occasionally hear him muttering to himself, and they are slightly concerned he is actually going crazy.
However, he is, in fact, rehearsing what he is going to say to you because he really wants everything to go perfectly.
After a few hours of distractedly repeating the same drills over and over again, Bokuto, for the first time in his career, leaves practice early, so that he can pick up dinner from your favorite restaurant and buy you some gorgeous red roses.
When he arrives at his apartment, your boyfriend immediately jumps into the shower then throws on a nice outfit. Afterwards, he sets up the dining table as fancily as he can, and he lights some candles to enhance the romantic atmosphere.
Once the apartment is perfectly arranged, he waits for 7 p.m. to roll around.
At 7:02 p.m., he is pacing back and forth in the living room, twirling a single rose (from the bouquet he purchased) in his hand.
He is not panicking that you are two minutes late, he is simply so nervous about asking you to take this monumental step in your relationship.
Because he is absolutely head over heels for you, and he knows you feel the same way, but the possibility of you saying "no" weighs heavily on his mind.
At 7:08 p.m., Bokuto discerns the sound of your light knocking and he rushes to the front door, throwing it wide open to reveal you standing there, sporting a playful grin.
"Hey Ko," you greet cheerfully, your eyes slowly drifting down to his outfit. With a chuckle, you add, "I didn't know we were dressing up for our night in."
Maybe it's the way your eyes sparkle as you gesture towards your casual outfit, or perhaps it's because your chuckle is particularly melodious, but Bokuto's thoughts become all jumbled and he ends up blurting out: "Please move in with me!"
This abrupt proclamation causes your eyes to widen, and you instantly step into the apartment and close the door behind you before you venture to say, "Wait, are you serious?"
Bokuto responds with an eager nod, and he looks at you expectantly with bright, hopeful eyes.
"Oh wow, I wasn't expecting this," you admit shyly, as you glance down at your shoes.
"You don't have to if you don't want to! I just thought I'd ask since you already spend a lot of time here! And since I love you so much!" Bokuto exclaims, because the last thing he wants to do is make you feel uncomfortable or pressured. He takes a deep breath, attempting to recall the words that he had been rehearsing all day. Then he continues, a bit sheepishly: "I'd love to wake up beside you each morning. I'd love to fall asleep beside you each night. I want to look forward to coming home to you each day. I want this space to be our space. I want to call you my home. But I understand if you don't want to move in."
You are momentarily stunned by how emotional and earnest your boyfriend seems, but you soon reply, "Ko, I would be happy to move in with you! Honestly, I was thinking about bringing it up, but I was nervous. I thought that me moving in now would be a burden for you since you're currently so busy with your career."
Without hesitation, Bokuto gently cups your cheek and responds, "Y/N, you could never be a burden to me."
This statement brings a smile to your face that is as radiant as gold and Bokuto suddenly feels like the richest man in the world.
The emotions swelling in his chest are equivalent to winning a match, but multiplied by ten.
Bokuto then hands you the rose that he had been clutching onto tightly and you gingerly take it from him before throwing your arms around his neck and joyfully planting a kiss onto his lips.

a/n: tumblr was acting up, so i had to repost this :( apologies to everyone who already read, reblogged and liked this!
Tumblr media
Miya Atsumu is waiting for you in his car, outside your apartment building, so he can drive you over to his parents’ house for a family dinner.
Why were you having dinner with his family?
Well, his mother had been adamant the last couple of weeks about arranging a blind date for him because she wanted him to start thinking about settling down. Atsumu wasn’t really in the mood to be set up on a blind date with a random person his mother selected, especially since he didn’t want romance distracting him from his volleyball career. Therefore, he lied and said that he was already dating someone. One thing led to another, and she insisted that he invite his partner to a family dinner.
So, Atsumu had to find and convince someone to be his significant other for the evening, which is where you come in.
Atsumu knew you through his twin: you helped Osamu run Onigiri Miya. Whenever the professional volleyball player stopped by his twin’s shop, you were there. And you were always significantly nicer to him than Osamu because you actually gave him free onigiri, laughed at his jokes and weren’t consistently roasting him. Not to mention, you showed interest whenever he began rambling on and on about volleyball.
Since you were friendly with one another and he knew you were a reliable person he could lean on in this crisis, Atsumu had asked you to be his fake significant other. At first, you were hesitant, but the setter was persuasive. He promised to make it up to you, someway and somehow, and after some additional begging, you gave in.
Atsumu believed he had come up with a foolproof plan to successfully trick his mom. However, he had not anticipated his jaw dropping the moment you stepped outside of your apartment building and for his brain to turn to putty.
Because you look good. Like really good. He’s only used to seeing you wearing casual clothes at work, so he’s never seen you so dressed up and your outfit appears perfectly tailored to your body.
Honestly, Atsumu is overwhelmed by your attractiveness right now.
By the time you open the car door to the passenger’s seat, he’s still gaping at you like a fish, and you assume there is something amiss with your appearance.
You promptly bombard him with questions: “Is there something wrong with my outfit? Is it too much? Too little?”
As soon as the words tumble out of your mouth, Atsumu vigorously shakes his head and finds his voice, “No! You look really nice!” At this, your nerves are calmed, and you sigh in relief before entering the car.
Throughout the drive, you two make small talk and Atsumu is trying his best to keep up with the conversation, but his mind wanders back to how enthralling you look. His palms start feeling sweaty as he grips the steering wheel tightly and he is worried you can hear how quickly his heart is beating. At one point, the blond makes the fatal mistake of peeking over at you as you are speaking. His eyes fall to your lips, and he cannot help, but think about how alluring they seem and how sweet a kiss from you must be.
When you arrive at his parents’ house, you are walking up to the front door side-by-side when you suddenly stop and extend your hand towards him. Atsumu simply stares at you in confusion, not comprehending what you mean by this gesture.
“I feel like you should hold my hand or something,” you explain matter-of-factly. “It’ll make us seem more like a real couple.”
Atsumu shyly nods in agreement before lacing his calloused fingers through yours and he can instantly feel the warmth of your hand, which causes him to blush slightly. He thought that asking you for this favor would be easy, but instead, it was turning out to be extremely difficult.
He thought he would avoid getting romantically attached to anybody because volleyball is currently the most important thing to him. He thought he could pretend to be in love with you. He thought that tonight would be smooth sailing.
He did not think he would start falling for you: the person who was always so sweet and considerate towards him, the person who didn’t care that he was a famous athlete, the person who agreed to his outlandish scheme.
Atsumu does his best to push all these thoughts aside as he opens the front door and he mentally prepares himself to get through this dinner in one piece.
Unfortunately, you and Atsumu run into Osamu the moment you both step through the door, and his eyes immediately widen in shock upon seeing you together.
“You’re dating my employee?!” Osamu exclaims in a horrified tone.
You glance over at Atsumu, your eyes screaming “You didn’t warn him?!” while his expression reads “I thought you were going to tell him!”
At least you know this will be an interesting dinner.

For @highonhello ! Thanks again for joining my 100 follower event!
ft: kuroo x reader
song #: song #99 on the playlist is "Zenzenzense" by RADWIMPS (part of the soundtrack for the movie Your Name and it is a bop). i tried writing something unrelated to Your Name and, hopefully, you all enjoy.
Tumblr media
You and Kuroo met during your first year at Nekoma High: you sat beside each other in homeroom and had an instant connection.
Throughout your high school years, your relationship developed into a strong friendship: you hung out together after school, you went to all his games, he helped you study, you developed countless inside jokes, you defended his love for grilled salted mackerel pike every time Yaku made fun of him for preferring fish, etc.
However, your third year of high school came and went in the blink of an eye, which meant going your separate ways because you weren't attending the same university.
Still, at your graduation ceremony, you and Kuroo had made a promise: “No matter what,” you both vowed, “we will stay in touch.”
And initially, you did.
Text messages were exchanged every day, calls were made at least once a week, and, occasionally, you visited one another.
Gradually, though, the amount of text messages dwindled, less calls were made and neither of you had the time to go visit each other.
You couldn’t blame Kuroo for the lack of communication and vice versa. Your busy schedules just didn’t line up and sometimes growing up means growing apart.
By the time Kuroo is working with the JVA, you manage to secure your dream job in a different city, and you only talk to your handsome high school friend sporadically.
Luckily, there is a reunion for Nekoma High alumni, which you are both attending.
You are excited to see Kuroo for the first time in what feels like forever, but unfortunately, he is running late.
He had an important presentation at work that he couldn’t miss and, afterwards, he had to deal with a bunch of questions regarding it, so he left the office two and a half hours later than he anticipated.
Once he leaves the office building, he rushes to the reunion's venue because he is really dying to see you after several months apart.
When he arrives, he scans for your face in the crowd of people, but what captures his attention is laughter, your laughter, which is as infectious as ever.
He is able to pinpoint you at the side of the room, animatedly chatting with Yaku and Kai.
As he stares at you, he cannot help, but think about how at ease you look. How happy you look. How alluring you look.
And Kuroo doesn’t understand why his heart is suddenly pounding against his chest.
“Hey, are you just going to stand there staring at us all night?” Yaku calls out with a wry grin when he notices his former teammate.
As he approaches, Kuroo can tell there is irritation in your eyes and once he joins your trio, you barely glance at him and flatly remark, “You’re late.”
Although you minced your words, he could tell they carried weight: you rarely saw or spoke to one another and now that you finally had the opportunity to do so, he was late.
Kuroo finds himself at a loss for words and he is hit with a wave of nostalgia and longing for your younger years when he was the one constantly making you laugh.
All he wants to do is wrap his arms around you, apologize for being late and promise that he’ll make it up to you.
Instead, he sheepishly says, “I’m sorry. I ran here as fast as I could.”
But you could feel all the emotions and sentiments in his words, almost as if they were palpable, and a hint of a smile graces your lips.
It is as if a silent promise was made between you two in this moment that you would try to make more time to meet up in the future, no matter the distance.
Because reuniting after being separated for so long has made it clear how vacant your lives feel without each other.
And with that, you and Kuroo immediately start catching up and discussing what you've been up to the past few months.
Meanwhile, Kai and Yaku are watching you and Kuroo, wondering if you’re just now finally realizing that your relationship is more than platonic.

STATUS: CLOSED
Thank you to everyone who follows me and enjoys my silly little fics! To celebrate this milestone, I wanted to do a small event.
THE THEME: MUSIC (because some of my fic ideas are inspired by songs I listen to and because I occasionally listen to music while I write)
Tumblr media
1. Musical Muse (7/7 slots taken)
As an ask, send me a Haikyuu!! character, a trope and song lyrics (2-4 verses), and using this information, I will create a character x reader drabble that is approximately 600 words. For the song lyrics, provide the name of the song and the artist as well. But please note, I will only be using the lyrics you provide as inspiration. The drabble will not be based on the entire song. Make sure that the lyrics you send are SFW! The tropes can be anything from childhood friends to lovers, to AUs, to a sharing an umbrella, as long as it’s SFW (angsty stuff is fine). Characters and tropes can be repeated twice, respectively. However, the same character and trope combination cannot be used. For example, if someone has already selected Atsumu + meet cute, you either have to select a different character or trope. I will respond to your ask and add your character selection and trope to the list below. When I post the drabble, I will make sure to mention your username/anon emoji. Ex.: Oikawa + coffee shop au + “And isn't it just so pretty to think/ All along there was some/ Invisible string/ Tying you to me?” from “Invisible String” by Taylor Swift List: Oikawa + strangers to lovers, Kuroo + childhood friends to lovers, Atsumu + fake dating, Kita + unrequited love, Sugawara + best friends to lovers, Iwaizumi + friends to lovers, Yaku + coffee shop au
2. Pick from the Playlist (5/5 slots taken)
As an ask, send me a Haikyuu!! character and a number for from 1 to 100. The number will correspond to a song from one of my random playlists (yes, I will be exposing my taste in music). I will use this song to write some character x reader headcanons. This playlist ranges from fluffy love songs to sad ballads, so be warned. None of the song contain explicit content. Maybe some cursing/swearing, but that's about it. Character be repeated twice. Number cannot be repeated. I will respond to your ask and add your character selection and number to the list below. When I post the headcanons, I will make sure to mention your username/anon emoji. I think it would be a fun surprise to reveal the song associated to the number once I post the headcanons, but if you really want to know before that, mention it in your ask! Ex.: Sugawara + 37 List: Kuroo + 99, Bokuto + 4, Oikawa + 26, Atsumu + 17, Nishinoya + 37
Tumblr media
Before You Enter/Rules:
You can choose only one of the options. Moots, you can choose to submit something for both!
Moots, if the slots for the one you would like to select have been filled, do not worry! You can still send in a request and I will fulfill it.
My blog is SFW, so the content I will produce for this event will be SFW.
Anons are welcomed to join! Just include an emoji I can identify you with.
For the drabbles and headcanons, I will try my best to keep everything gender neutral.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to send me an ask!
This is my first event, so please forgive me if I am slow!
Also, please note that I'm pretty sure that this event idea is not unique, but I thought it would be fun to do.
