Consider, when clones paint their buckets they tape over the visors so they don’t get the paint on them.
Also consider some clones forget to take the tape off again and end up being confused as to why they can’t see.
Comet has done this. Artem has done this. Cody has but won’t admit it ever. Dogma did once but Tup was the only one who saw. Boil laughed himself sick when Waxer did it. Hardcase refused to admit he’d done it and walked into a door, Kix refused to treat him.

Can you write something/a snippet with Fox getting the news of Thorn’s death and how he and the Corries cope?
This is gonna reference an old post of mine because I thought it might be interesting to expand that AU
“Where is Commander Fox?” Stone looks up from his datapad to see Chancellor Palpatine staring down at him and he resists the urge to flinch. Thire who sits right next to him doesn’t hold back.
The Chancellor’s stare is hard, his expression uncaring. He holds himself with an air of superiority and boredom, and Stone knows he’s getting impatient by the lack of an answer.
“Unavailable, sir.” What else can he say? Fox went to the 79s to talk to Rex and Cody to let them know about where Fives has been placed within their Witness Program. While Fox won’t give them the exact location, he’ll give them enough clues to go searching if they really want to check on the vod.
The Chancellor raises an eyebrow, unimpressed at the answer. Stone bites his tongue at the man scans him over, afraid he might give away what Fox is doing. After all, Fives was never meant to live according to Palpatine’s orders. If the Chancellor finds out…well, every Corrie will be in danger.
“We can comm him to let him know he’s needed,” Thire pipes up, unable to hold his tongue. It seems the man is getting to his younger vod. Stone subtly shifts so that he is in front of Thire, hoping to get him out of Palpatine’s line of sight.
“No need,” the Chancellor answers. He throws a datapad on the desk, a report lying open for all to see. Stone briefly glances at it, blood running cold at the sight of the word Scipio on it. His heart begins to race as he stares back at the Chancellor. Thorn was in Scipio.
What did Palpatine just give them?
Thire gasps, no doubt already reading the report in its entirety. A soft “no” escapes his lips and Stone already knows it will be bad news.
The Chancellor tilts his head before speaking. “Tell Fox,” he starts, speaking slowly as though it is imperative that Stone repeats every word back to his Head Commander, “that when I give an order, I expect it to be followed.”
Stone swallows. The threat is clear in his message. Somehow, someway, Palpatine knows that Fives isn’t dead and whatever is in that report is a consequence to their actions to save him. The Commander nods, ignoring the noises that begin to leave Thire’s mouth behind him.
The Chancellor turns to leave, stopping briefly in his action. Stone has just picked up the datapad when he hears Palpatine speak. “It is a luxury to have three Commanders on Coruscant, not to mention that program.” Stone clenches his jaw, hand shaking ever so slightly at the comment. “If he fails again…” The Chancellor doesn’t finish, just leaves the sentence hanging in the air for several moments before walking away.
His eyes blur at the words on the screen, his nose burning as he breathes. Thire grasps his arm and Stone moves ever so slightly to allow the vod enough space to hug him. He needs the comfort just as much as Thire does.
Several words stand out and Stone doesn’t need to read it all to get the gist of it.
Mission unsuccessful.
Droid ambush.
The death of fourteen Coruscant Guards troopers.
Commander Thorn.
Status – deceased.
The datapad falls from his hand. He squeezes Thire close, who tries to hide the ugly noises of his crying. How will he tell Fox the news? More specifically, how would Fox handle the threats Palpatine has sent their way?
They knew eventually it would be too much to hide, that the politician would find out but to kill one of them because of it…even if it was indirectly, it’s unfathomable. Stone breathes, hoping to steady his nerves before sending a wide alert across the Corrie system.
WARNING! Corrie Program has been jeopardized. Initiate Evacuation Plan 4487.
He then privately comms Fox. He tucks his comm away, dragging Thire up as he stands. “We need to leave.” They can mourn on the evacuation ships. Now is not the time.
~
“I can’t tell you.” Fox has repeated the statement over six times and it’s like Rex doesn’t hear him. The blonde vod huffs at the words, ready to argue again when his comm chirps.
Fox looks down, swiping up at the message. Why is Stone coming him? He knew Fox wouldn’t be in till early morning.
Stone: Thorn is dead. He knows.
Fox’s heart freezes at the message, barely able to process it when another comes through. The system wide alert for all Corries. He looks up and he sees his men start to trickle out of the bar, following the plan.
His breathing picks up. His hand is squeezed, and he looks down at the sensation, following the arm that attaches to the vod holding his hand. Cody’s eyebrows are furrowed in confusion. His lips are moving words no doubt leaving his mouth, but Fox can’t hear over the pumping of blood rushing past his ears.
This wasn’t supposed to happen. Helping Fives wasn’t supposed to cause this…this…What has he done? Cody waves a hand in his face and Fox swipes at it, pulling his hand away from the hold his vod has on him. He stumbles towards the exit, hardly caring if he’s followed back to his office.
His men are in danger.
His men.
Fox rushes to the speeder bike he drove here, kickstarting it. His chin is grabbed, and Fox is staring back at Cody. Cody who’s eyes are wide, lips mouthing out one word. He looks absolutely terrified.
Fox shakes his head; he can’t focus on that right now. He thinks to apologize and hopes he does but he can’t quite control his senses right now.
He needs to leave.
His men are in danger.
Thorn is dead and his men are in danger.
This wasn’t supposed to happen.
How did this happen?

My two favourite HCs for how Kote becomes Cody that I use in my stories and bounce between…
1) Rex loses some teeth either in training or because he’s that age and can’t pronounce Kote with the lisp and everyone just jumps on that and it sticks but it was Rex’ika so Cody doesn’t mind.
2) Jango names him Kote out of love but when the Kaminoans realised Jango was too attached to the clones and reconned him, Cody was furious. As the weight of now being the eldest and having to look after his batch who are all also grieving losing their Buir piles up he just refuses to be that liars glory. He’s so betrayed because Buir said he loved them and nothing could stop that but the Kaminoans and Tyranus did and now he’s gone and Cody had to keep everyone on track.
Or 3) both. He doesn’t want to be Kote anymore and then Rex says Cody and that replaces it.

Can we please have a follow up of what happens to Fox in Last Words after Palpatine takes him, and maybe his batch rescues him?
It’s on the list… in fact, it's part written, hopefully I'll have it finished and ready to read soon.
It should be a lot of fun, mwahahahahahaha.
Thanks for the ask, glad you enjoyed it so far. It's going to hurt.

For my sithly entity horror au thing.
I’m thinking it hates Palpatine because Palpatine is turning the galaxy dark and it doesn’t want that. It feeds of people losing hope and their fear and anguish but an already dark Sith galaxy would starve it. So it needs palaptine gone. That’s why it lures Fox’s batch in, because it knows Palpatine has Fox as his pet and punchbag, so it can feed off of and play with them and then let them ‘break out’ and go after it’s enemy. The Sith.

Reconditioned clones HCs:
When the Kaminoans recon clones, they wipe them clean. Take their names, their personalised, and leave the skills and the mouldable soldier to work with.
And these reconned clones go back to new battalions as shinies again. As far as anyone should know they’re just new shinies fresh off Kamino.
But they know. They know they were someone before. They know they had names, they had friends and batchmates and people who loved them, but it’s all blank. It’s all empty space.
And other clones know, even though they’re not supposed to. They pick things up, start to work out early on that somethings different with some of the shinies they get. They see the little things that ring though, the nightmares and the too ingrained reactions that didn’t come from Kamino. And once they know reconned clones become easy to identify when they come through.
They get memories in nightmares, that sensation that something is terribly wrong over really normal things.
Sometimes the colour on their armour makes them want to cry and they know it’s wrong but they can’t remember what it’s supposed to be.
They flinch from things but they don’t know why it causes that reaction.
They pick up a blaster and drop it because something in their minds screams no.
Not all of them can just move forwards. Not all of them can just pick up a new name, forge a new personality, make new friends with new vode.
Some of them can’t take on new names. Nothing sounds right. They know that it’s not their name but they don’t know what their name is. Often that leads to them letting their vode chose one that they’ll all use, one they don’t mind, but their vode introduce them to people because they can’t bring themselves to say it, to actually use this new name themselves. They just can’t because they know, they know it’s not their name.
And just like with the names, their vode find solutions. They find ways to work with their vode who the Kaminons wiped clean. The longer the war goes on the less recons happen, officially they don’t at all, but the clones know the signs. The longer the war goes on the better they get at helping their vode settle in when everything feels wrong and they can’t quite place why.
The vode are furious. Because who you are, for some clones, that’s all they have. Names are precious, important. Personalities and the little things that make them individual and unique, they mean everything. And the sense of bitter loathing that comes every time they meet a new vod who’s had that taken from them by force, it’s powerful.
Their vode might not be able to remember who they were before, which battalion, which name, but their new battalions will be dammed before they turn their backs on their own.

I HC the 501st were furious at how Krell took advantage of Dogma.
That they accept that Dogma is Dogma and while it sometimes gets on their nerves a little bit that he’s always so uptight and such a stickler for the rules when they want a bit of chaos, he’s clearly been reconned before and he’s their brother so they always try to help him or if nothing else keep him out of their scenes when they know he’ll be uncomfortable with it.
But now a general has not only betrayed them, not only sent them to their deaths and used them as canon fodder and forced them against their own vode but he’s taken advantage of Dogma, of his nature and his need for that structure and they hate that.
They hate that Dogma was under a General who’s abuse his need to follow authority and defend it, they hated that Dogma was the one who pulled the trigger when it should have been anyone else. Rex hates himself for not pulling the trigger when he had the chance, Fives for not stopping Dogma. Either of them would rather have taken the punishment. They might have received a fairer one too. An ARC and an ARC Captain or a reconned clone who’s barely re-earned his paint.
And now they’re going to take Dogma away again, wipe him clean again, take everything away from him again.
They’re furious.

Fives didn’t mean to get attached to Dogma and Tup. It was an accident. But after losing Echo, he’d needed to help, needed to throw himself into something, and looking after new shinies as their earned their paint helped.
Dogma and Tup stood out. They reminded him of himself and Echo. A vod who sticks to the rules and knows them off by heart and a vod who sticks by that vods side despite being a little more reckless. Of course, he knows Dogma isn’t Echo, in many ways they’re very different, but some things are so familiar.
It’s only after they lose Dogma that Fives really becomes determined to protect Tup. They’re both in the same boat.
Fives lost Echo. Tup lost Dogma. Fives won’t lose Tup. He’ll protect his little brother.
He can’t lose anyone else.

Thinking about Bly having this undying hope. Being a hopeless romantic and a believer in good prevailing and in being the change you want to see in the world, in defending what’s good because if you don’t then evil wins.
Thinking about him teaching himself about the outside world on Kamino with novels he wasn’t supposed to have access to reading late into the night and sometimes reading to his brothers and every single one has that happy ending. The good guys win and love, for family or romance, always wins and Bly believes that.
He names himself after a character in his favourite book, one he could probably recite from memory at this point, who he related to, with siblings and hopes and dreams who faces massive adversity and loss but still wins in the end.
So Bly believes they’ll win the war and he believes he and Aayla have a post-war future because love is supposed to win and he believes his vode will get happy futures because they’re the best and they deserve it.
And his hope and belief, it’s inspiring. For his battalion and his batch, it’s powerful and motivating and beautiful.
And no matter how rough the war gets nothing extinguishes that belief. And as it turns in their favour it only grows.
Until Order 66, when everything is taken from him, and the bad guys destroy it all. He loses his love and every sibling and his freedom. The Sith take everything.

So on the topic of the Temple Guard. Would if they’re all Jedi who specialized in one of the fields (diplomat, healer, crèchemaster, etc) who just said “fuck it, I’m not doing this anymore, I want to guard my family and have the younglings think I’m a particularly force sensitive stature for a good five years”
I mean yeah that’s basically how I Headcanon the Temple Guards.
I HC that the Guards are simply any Jedi who, like you said, chose to commit their lives to protecting their home and family. I don’t believe they’re new knights, I imagine most Guards have to spend time in the galaxy running missions first, but after a few years they can chose to apply and train.
I also HC that anonymity is important for the Guard in terms of keeping the Temple safe, and mostly to make sure outsiders can’t target specific Guards. This could be because people are going to try to bribe them or because someone wants information or anything like that. However, all the Temple Guards know each other’s names and know each other. And all the Jedi do too. Because they have the Force.
The anonymity is for outsiders. The Jedi hardly need to see someone’s face to know who they are. They know the Guards through the Force and so while outsiders think they’re indistinguishable, they really aren’t. After all, all people feel different in the Force and a lot of them will still have bonds with their lineages and friends. And they’re happy to help the younglings in the Temple, to wrap the Force around them in a hug when they feel sad or give them directions, there’s more to protecting than just standing guard anyway.
I also HC a big part of the reason people think the Jedi are cold in the GFFA is because the Jedi communicate in a way people can’t see. When they greet each other they communicate as much with the Force as physically, often more so. They hug with the Force, brush against each other’s shields with love or concern or joy or disappointment, it’s a whole way of communicating outsiders just can’t see. So same as all Jedi, the Temple Guards don’t need to talk much, don’t need to show their faces, but they’re as much a part of their home and culture as any Jedi. They use the Force to spread warnings and make sure people are in the right places, to coordinate against attacks or intruders, to find initiates who’ve snuck off. They use it to check in with each other and to communicate with any Jedi who pass without moving a muscle. Outsiders see statues, stone cold masked beings who stand to their posts. They can’t see the rest of it. But it’s there.
So yeah, they’re just Jedi who chose to Guard their family and their home, donning a mask and outfit for protection and leaning more into the Force to communicate with the people they love.

Bly is a hopeless romantic but he also has the romantic ability of a chicken and the smoothness of sandpaper so it’s a good thing Aayla finds that endearing because he’s absolutely made a fool out of himself more than once.
