Calendar Dalamud Plugin Released

So, we've not got a Dalamud plugin that's fully released for those that find the website too old school (which it admittedly is). You can find it by searching for "events" in the Dalamud plugin installer.

Some of you all might have noticed it sitting in testing for about six months or so, but I'd been waiting for some network infrastructure changes to get sorted, and they were exceptionally slow to happen.

Limsa and Goobbue Hunting

It’s hard to speak of Limsa Lominsa without broaching the subject of piracy. The city state started its life as a safe-port for the various pirate crews and fleets that troubled the seas around Eorzea and even beyond to places like Thavnair and (in rare cases) Kugane.

In the modern age they are the alliance’s de facto naval presence. No force in Eorzea can come close to matching the sheer number of vessels under the admiral’s command, save perhaps East Aldenard Trading. Their primary military force is the Maelstrom Grand Company, which combines the Knights of the Barracuda and conscripted pirates and adventurers. This lends a certain wildness to their tactics that makes the Maelstrom formidable in their unpredictability.

As a Thalassocracy, Limsa Lominsa is the governmental seat for coastal communities all over the Rhotano sea and La Noscea. The cultural hallmarks of construction and aesthetic are striking in their fusion of piratical practicality and stark beauty. Most communities are shining white, built from the white limestone and sandstone that makes up the cliffs of the local islands. Many locations, including Limsa herself, are built out over the open water on hoodoos and columns rising out of the water. The sight of the city stretched over dozens of trunk-like pillars and laced over with bridges has earned Limsa Lominsa the nickname The Navigator’s Veil.

I arrived by ferry early in the morning and had a full day to explore the city, quickly becoming lost in the thick knot of bridges and sky-ways. Ships hoisted from the water created make-shift buildings, while in other cases the hoodoos were carved hollow to form luxurious cave dwellings. Even as used to the desert sun as I am, though, I found that the glare of light off the white stone eventually started to make my head hurt and I took my wanderings inside. Fortunately, several of the pillars are large enough to constitute entire neighborhoods or boroughs once hollowed out. I found myself exploring vast indoor marketplaces, guild halls, training areas, and plazas. All of these smelled wonderfully of the myriad spices on sale, fish, linseed oil, and salt. Even with the press of sweaty bodies, it was hard to find a corner of the city that was not a bouquet of pleasant aromas.

My favorite phenomenon was the wave-talk. Some trick of the hollow stone pillars and the waves that beat on them continually created hallways that rumbled and roared with the sounds of the ocean. I could stand still and close my eyes and listen—and a less credulous mage might start to swear they could hear speech. Indeed, I almost felt the ocean talking to me in a language I could nearly understand. It was like I heard words that were just beyond the tip of my tongue, some ancient syntax studied as a child and since long forgotten. It reminded me of the wind sweeping through the trees of the Shroud in that sense.

I registered my name as a visitor with the Arcanist’s guild and purchased a few books for study, but did not have time to do much more than watch a handful of students practicing arcanima. Loathe as I am to pass on seeing forms of magic I’ve not played with, I have a job to do. I’ve been asked to track and slay a Goobbue causing trouble for some vineyards east of Limsa, so in the afternoon I loaded Telemachus’ saddle bags with fresh supplies bought in the port and set off on the road. Personal entry: Sea travel must be one of Hells used to punish the sinful. I had to walk as much to steady my own stomach as to sate my curiosity. An apothecary recognized my green gills when I stepped off the boat and sold me some herbal gum to chew for what I suspect was entirely too much money. Flipping hells, if I hadn’t been about to lose my breakfast, I might not have paid.

I’ve received a call on my link pearl asking me to travel back to Ishgard with all haste. I am to join a handful of other Drakes in investigating something in the Brume. Apparently there are deaths among the refugee population. I said yes, of course. I wouldn’t be able to look mama and papa in the eyes if I refused to help a fellow refugee. I’m going to try to purchase a ticket on an airship. Admiral Bloefhiswyn has supposedly relaxed travel restrictions on air travel.

I’m stuck in my head. The whole trip across Vylbrand I’ve had hardly a thought for anything but those refugees in Ishgard. It had been nearly a year before my family was allowed to live inside Ul’Dah’s walls and that was only once I’d won sponsorship to learn at the Ossuary. There are children I grew up with whose families still live in the tent city outside the Gate of Nald. I remember crime families taking advantage of those of us desperate for work and without the skills of an artisan. Papa stayed away by stroke of luck, but Didiru wasn’t so lucky. Her death still hurts even after four years. I only wish we’d found the body. Then at least I could have given her an honorable funeral.

I met my contact in Aleport after I took care of the Goobbue. There wasn’t much in the way of gil, but the man had a few good bottles of wine to sweeten the pot. I know naught of wine but the Roe waitress serving us seemed surprised by the vintage. I think I can bribe my way on to an airship with one.

I’m a Lumberjack and That’s Okay...

Staying true to my roots I’ve been continuing my travels to every corner of Eorzea. While riding through the Black Shroud I pick up some botany from one of my fellow travelers. It was so fulfilling to get my hands to the real living parts of this wonderful land. There wasn’t just work with plants and herbs but tree work as well. With the identifying, cultivating and responsible collection of wood from trees. You know what, turns I’m a lumberjack, and I’m okay with that... there’s got to be a song in there somewhere.

I spent some time wondering around Ishgard, now that I have my papers. Which is creepy but whatever makes you feel safe I guess. I’ve got to tell you, the more I talk to people the more something in the Ishgard ‘v’ Dravinian war doesn’t pass the smell test. Like, someone stole someone’s girl friend and I started a land war. Like, if they could just realize that she was exercising her rights to choose her partner and she gets to do that... maybe some of these folx could set down some of their outrage... but what do I know. I haven’t had... a girlfriend... in... hmm...

Bath time! OH! I made way back to Tranquil Fowl Inn & Bath. I think I’m going to have to accept that I’m going to be a regular there. Xyphen, the owner, is something special. She ‘knows’ when her customers need something. She’s got a Aether tuning fork or something hidden up her sleave. Anyway, I mention it because I met some really phunn people. Things got really punny and was an absolutely hoot to get to chat with them. Nyra, and I became friends. It happened, no takes-backsies. She dubbed me “Our Lady of the Wagon.” Which is brilliant. She also nestled this brain worm into my head that I haven’t stopped thinking about... what if I got my own wagon... yeah. That’s going to be it’s own... thing to work through. Maybe next time...

Well, I’m off. More unsuspecting targets to bamboozle out of their Triple-T cards. I don’t know if we’re going to catch ‘em all, but we’re going to have fun trying... hmm... might be another... naaaah.

SEA'S COMMUNITY COMPENDIUM UPDATE

We have a massive one today! Huge thanks to a close friend of mine who sent me every single bookmark of xiv resources she had. 💖

Additionally, a good handful of these resources were sourced from a list originally created by @rinhkitty, which you can find here. I have tried to include the more recent/active of the lot, so it's not a one-for-one. Thank them for a lot of the large scale resources you'll find below! ✨

As of 04/12, I have added the following resources (in no particular order) to Sea's Community Compendium for FFXIV Creatives:

LARGE SCALE

GARLAND TOOLS — Contains XIV resources such as Garland Data, everything database, crafting lists and equipment calculators; Garland Bell, gathering timers, collectable resources and hunt windows; and FFXIV Fisher, daily fishing windows, bait paths and catch checklist. Maintained by Clorifex Ezalor of Zalera.

TEAMCRAFT — Create crafting lists and collaborate with others, set gathering alarms, simulate crafting rotations, and more!

CAT BECAME HUNGRY - FFXIV ANGLER — Contains everything and anything to know about fishing including specific fish guides, location, baits, aquarium fish and more!

FFXIV - CRAFTING AS A SERVICE — Crafting information and planning for FFXIV!

FFXIV GARDENING — The FFXIV Gardening Database is a collection of everything related to gardening in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. It was created to organize and visualize the results obtained from crossbreeding.

SIGHTSEEING LOG HELPER — This tool will help those trying to complete their pesky Sightseeing Log by letting them know upcoming weather patterns for each zone!

EUREKA TRACKER — For everything and anything to do with Eureka mobs, tracking and weather patterns.

FFLOGOS — for tracking of items/actions related to Eureka.

FFXIVSQUADRON — A comprehensive tool that helps you assess the success rate of various squadron missions.

FFXIV CHOCOBO COLOUR CALCULATOR — Will calculate what chocobo feed you will need to get from your current colour to your desired colour. *rng not included.

FFXIV HOUSING — A site specialising in the documentation of all housing items available in game.

HOUSING SNAP — A compilation of player-made housing designs. Can be used for inspiration or places to visit!

MISC

NPC CHAT BUBBLES — Would you like more NPC chat bubbles for edits? Say no more! Created by @alexoisxiv.

OLD TUMBLR LAYOUT BY PIXIEL — While not XIV specific I know a lot of people aren't fans of the new Tumblr layout, so this is a fix that will revert it to an as close as possible approximation of the new one. I won't tag the creator as I don't think they're in the xiv community, but it's run by @/pixiel!

HOW TO CURSE LIKE AN ISHGARDIAN — Do you want to make the church blush? Do you want to incur the wrath of Halone? @stars-and-clouds has compiled a list of appropriate curses/swear words for you!

FINAL FANTASY XIV SIDEQUEST GUIDE - HEAVENSWARD EDITION — maintained by @chatty-moogle, this guide explores interesting sidequests in Heavensward that will give you more information about the lore, titbits about locals and other interesting information!

TRUST BANNERS FOR XIV — If you have ever wondered how people mimic the Trust banners used in XIV, look no further! @locke-rinannis has a template for you.

MAKING USE OF RECOMMENDATIONS — created by @autumnslance, this guide will help you make your recommendations tab useful rather than annoying.

BOTANICA EORZEA — A guide to the flora of Eitherys and her reflections, including fungi and seedkin. For reference in writing and roleplaying. Maintained by @tinolqa.

GPOSE TIPS — A tutorial on how to achieve clarity and detail in your XIV screenshots! Created by @aryalaenkha.

UI MACRO MENUS — A guide on how to use macros to create small UI menus for XIV. Written by @diskwrite-ffxiv.

TYPHON GATE RESEARCH — Created by @mcstronghuge, these are the statistically best places for your character to stand for the Typhon Gate!

HYDAELYN HEALTH HAVEN has been removed at the request of the owner.

Moved THE BALANCE higher on the list to reflect alphabetical sorting, excluding names that start with The.

Misc formatting as needed.

Added some additional clarification around large-scale discords/spaces; in particular: Large-scale community discords such as the XIV Reddit Discord, Hunts, GPOSE promotions and broad-space roleplay servers that harbour a large number of people and are publicly available to all. These may not have an RP focus but will assist in other aspects of the game. Also includes well-known tools/resources that are utilised by large groups of people and assist in gameplay elements.

Added a quick-jump menu to the bottom of each of the table of contents menus to assist in navigation.

Journey to Limsa

The itch has come. The Drakes took me in as one of their own and have employed me. I confess, as nice as it is to have a roof over my head, I’ve grown too fond of the road. So the first chance I took, I grabbed a contract to fell a creature in La Noscea.

Once again the Calamity has revealed wonders of old Belah’dia. South of Horizon a collapsed aquifer revealed a score of old ruins. Among them is one the locals are calling The Silent King. My former brothers and sisters of the Ossuary are studying it closely, so I didn’t get much time with it. Though when they left for lunch I was able to sneak up and get a few sketches in. I’m going to leave the part about hiding from the Thamaturges out of the article I send for publication...

Tonight I’m sleeping in Vesper Bay, Ul’Dah’s gateway to the seas, and the most active port in Thanalan. The Silver Bazaar held this title once upon a time, but Lord Lolorito poured money into Vesper Bay, raising the bustling city up from its humble roots. Fortunate enough for the Vesperians, I suppose. Though the withering fate of the people of the Silver Bazaar makes me think they do not share in their brethrens’ delight. It is a twisted reality that one man is so powerfully wealthy that he can shift the destiny of thousands at a whim.

The grand bastard himself.

Vesper Bay also has another claim to fame of late. It’s become recently known as the home of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, adventurers who previously worked under Louisoix Leveilleur. They’ve made a name for themselves in recent months with their actions against the Garleans as well as assisting the city states with tricky beast tribe gods. What I wouldn’t give to dissect one of those after the fact... The ferry to Limsa Lominsa sails tomorrow, and with it I go to a part of the continent I’ve never been before. I doubt I’ll get much sleep tonight, so I’ve brought a copy of Tatarumi Nanarumi’s Lifestream Theory and Population Growth. If I don’t fall asleep I’ll learn something new.

I’ve sent my latest missives to the publisher for Traveling Thanalan. I doubt it will sell much, but I’d be delighted if someone came to me someday and told me they’d read the book.
