my favorite moments from episode 4 of fantasy high junior year:

nat 20 to pet a cat that harassed your friend group last spring break

"they're always wearing big cloaks... like what's under there??" "yeah!!! they have stars on their hats!!"

THE RATGRINDERS BEING LIKE ACTUAL RATGRINDERS (i guessed it last week and yet i was overjoyed and on the edge of my seat the whole time)

em and murph’s little simultaneous “they’re literally grinding”

gorgug walking in as confidently as possible to a classroom he’s never been in, trying to solve a unsolvable problem written on the board wildly incorrectly in every aspect and then when it’s brought up just, “thank you”

FIGAYDA!!!!!! (fig trying to figure out what time ayda is in, ayda creating an order of knights to tell fig about her trip) “that’s my girlfriend, not a fucking spell component”

porter trying anything to get fig in his class while fig actively and openly hates him (he is so real and me bc i too think every fig does and has done is perfect)

aelwyn abernant blackmailing the principal of a middle school to get a job

the erased love yous (sobbing) <3

the bucky convo (he is so freshman year kristen) “join us”

fig has had a lot of jobs and some experience robbing jewelry stores

“my dad, i killed” *lou hums sympathetically*

zara, hottest woman ever, vampire warlock to her paramour

adaine’s first job was a little too real for me

everything about the presidential campaign (fig committing 100% to being security, kristen writing unnecessary speeches, shrimp party revival)

FigAyda headcannons!!!!! (Please)

Oooh fun! Thanks!

Fig is so so careful with her words when she first asks Ayda to come to one of her concerts. Like, consults Jawbone to make sure she’s explaining enough but not overexplaining anything. Ends up with something like “I would really like you to attend my concert on (date). I do know that it might be outside of your comfort zone, and I know that we have agreed to help each other step out of our comfort zones occasionally, which is why I feel like I can ask. However, I know that it might be a step too far out for you and you will not offend me if you say no to this. But I absolutely would enjoy the knowledge that you were there, listening while I play.” Ayda is touched by the care she puts in, and says yes. Fig makes sure to introduce her to Zelda, beforehand, so she knows she will have someone familiar wherever she ends up. She gives options of sitting backstage, in seats, or near the stage. She even makes sure Ayda has access to ear plugs and noise canceling headphones, if she wants them. They go to a local rare book store in the town they’re visiting before the concert, and Fig is so happy to just watch her girlfriend look at old books for hours. Ayda has a great time, especially since Zelda is there, but only attends the occasional concert. And Fig is absolutely content with her doing this.

Fig has a tendency to “sneak” off to Compass Points, on Leviathan, some weekends when she has nothing else going on. The reason “sneak” is in quotes, is that she always shoots Gilear a text before she does it. However, she tends to do it on weekends when she already knows he left his phone and keys at school, or gets incredibly lucky and he just doesn’t check it because it’s under a floorboard somehow and Cathilda hasn’t found it yet. Sandra Lynn is getting fed up with this habit. Gorthalax honestly thinks it’s funny.

Ayda is always excited to find out what Fig is learning in her classes. She is fascinated by how things are taught to young adventurers, especially since she is entirely self-taught. This actually causes Fig to go to one bard class a week, just so she can answer the questions that Ayda asks, because she adores the look Ayda gets when she’s asking these questions. She also adds a wizard class, in addition to the barbarian classes, just so she can see if Ayda is missing anything by not going to school (she isn’t, but Ayda is touched that Fig thought to check it out). Fig’s homework grades actually also go up as a result of this.

Often, their dates will entail sitting quietly in Mordred, or at Compass Points, while Fig writes music and Ayda does research. They bounce ideas off of each other, not really looking for specific feedback, just needing to say things aloud. They both always feel the most inspired in doing their work when this is how they work. But they do get distracted and make out a good 50% of the time.

ACOFAF (A Court of Fey and Flowers)

Pros: My all time favorite. Comfort media. Low mental commitment, with high serotonin reward.

Cons: None, except that I have already rewatched it at LEAST a dozen times, and maybe I should give another show a chance once in a while?

Mentopolis

Pros: SUCH a great season. Conrad and the Fix make me happy. Ultimate Found family, imo.

Cons: I feel like I need to pay attention to this one, and I'm not sure it grabs my attention enough to be able to do that?

Sophomore Year

Pros: All of them. Fucking LOVE this season. Great background noise AND I would get to re-live the FigAyda scenes? Love them!

Cons: HUGE time commitment. And yet. As soon as I start getting to my favorite episodes and the plot starts ramping up, the season is over before you know it?

Coffin Run

Pros: I mean. Come ON. Izzy is insane? Zac keeps eating paper? Jasmine gives out themed goodies that end up being important? AND I don't think I've rewatched this even a single time since it came out! That's criminal!

Cons: It's short 😓

The Unsleeping City

Pros: Goooooood season. Man, it's the intrepid heroes back at it! Every single dynamic is beautiful and priceless!

Cons: The characters are amazing, but the plot is just okay in my opinion? Idk maybe I'm just used to more of a 'mystery to unfold' rather than a sinister plot that's easy to follow from the beginning.

The Unsleeping City 2

Pros: INCREDIBLE season. New characters interacting with old! SO many happy couples! A fair bit of emotional investment, but still a really wonderful serotonin payoff in the end! The DRAGONS?????????? This season singlehandedly re-ignited my passion for storytelling! (Specifically because of Smoczmatka!) Damn, I'm almost convincing myself, here!

Cons: It's pretty long. Episodes are lengthy and it's also over zoom. Those two things put together make it harder to pay attention to.

Pirates of Leviathan

Pros: Wonderful cast brings back a small part of a previous season in a BIG way. Cheese! Myrtle! GARTHY O'BRIEN! I mean come ON!

Cons: A bit short for my liking. One of the PC's kinda gets on my nerves for several small reasons. (An opinion literally nobody shares with me, so I'll keep it to myself).

I'm SO TORN!!?!!

[Burrow's End gets an honorable mention because I just finished rewatching it like two weeks ago.]

Happened to realise that the ground coffee I keep in my office is a Nicaraguan blend and now I feel bad about the farmers unions

Also I forgot to send an ask about last week’s fantasy high! Personally I’m a little sad that many fan favourite NPCs are going to be gone this series, but I’m sure they have their reasons. I did however cry laughing with murph about those little guys being so tactical and so late

Personally I can understand why Brennan (and maybe the group too, I don't know how much is planned with the players) would jettison so many fan favourite NPCs. When you have NPCs like Ayda, there kinda has to be some tough love for fans I think

We love those characters, but we only had a chance to love them because the team made room for them by leaving a lot of of other NPCs behind. So let's make room for new characters to love!

Also the players are all improvisers who thrive on novelty and the freedom that comes with an untouched world. If they keep going back to the same characters again and again, it risks playing against the players' strengths. Also it might just be less fun for them having to play while factoring in how much people are clamouring for Figayda and Gilear. The show is great, I think, because it resolutely avoids fan service. If they were all about fan service they'd have put out Junior Year years ago.

2. SUMMER BREAKDOWN

I’m a fool and tried to just add my live thoughts onto this post directly and lost all of it when the app crashed so lesson learned. Notes app first from here out. Anyways here are the highlights I can think of

The Ayda armor. Wow, we are so back Figayda nation

Riz hitting Fabian with the van twice is so bffs of them

Riz and Fabian are both breaking my heart already this season they are both so lonely but in such different ways ugh Fabian’s lack of connection with his mom and his security in the friend group while riz has a loving mom but feels so insecure about his place amongst his friends… zoo wee mama!!

Adine and Zayn’s friendship really means the world to me I hope that they explore it more especially now that Aelwyn bailed and left her at mordrid alone

Loving that Sklonda left the pig patrol behind hate that they’re screwing her over but what do you expect cops to do!

Gilear’s luck streak combined with fig’s weird bad luck with having to make a dex save on the stairs only to still wind up with her boot in a bucket of cement is making me nervous in a major way. And then the little blurb about doreen’s fishnet getting torn makes me think she’s got something to do with it and maybe bc Gilear was a lunch lad he is somehow connected I don’t know. I don’t know!

22f looking for anyone 18+ for a few things. Mainly Dimension 20 Fantasy High! The new season is so good but the lack of Figayda content makes me want to write it lol! And also kind of want to try Lucy and Kipperlily based on this week's episode!! So tragic but I really want to explore that as well! I do have a slight preference for writing Fig but I'm willing to try anything. With Lucy and Kipperlily I'm up for writing either! In terms of plot I'm cool with doing in canon or AUs.

The next thing I'd love to write is Azula and Ty Lee from Avatar the Last Airbender! I'm thinking in between the Korra era and the end of the original series. Somewhere in there. But I'm up for AUs too. I have a preference for writing Azula but I'm also cool with trying out Ty Lee!

Some other ones that I'm always interested in writing are Gideon and Harrow from the Locked Tomb Series, Lottie and Laura Lee from Yellowjackets, and Carmilla and Laura from Carmilla the book. For Gideon and Harrow I have no preference of who to write. For Lottie and Laura Lee I prefer Lottie but open to trying Laura Lee. And for Carmilla and Laura I'm more inclined to write Laura. Canon or AUs for them too!

In terms of writing style I usually do 2-3 paragraphs but I'm up for matching lengths or whatever. I'm pretty flexible about things. Like this and I'll message you!

1. What fic of yours would you recommend to someone who had never read any of your work? (In other words, what do you think is the best introduction to your fics?)

sfjkvnksjfbs this is so difficult bc i feel like so much of what i write is impossibly niche and only for myself and a handful of my friends skjfvnsk so i have no idea what an effective introduction to my body of work would be. my figayda coffeeshop au, maybe? just because i think it's really solid and a good demonstration of my narrative style/rhythm? alternately, my figfabian lounge singer au for similar reasons? i dunno ksjfnksjf

honorable mention jamie @gilears and my 2nd pov figgorgug fic we wrote last year bc its some of my favorite and best work and one of the things i've most enjoyed writing-- and i think it's a really solid hook into figgorgug, which i have not been able to stop writing since kjsfnbvksfjbn

14. Are there any tropes you would only read if written by a trusted friend or writer?

i really only read oc-heavy if i really trust the author!! as a genre/style of fic they don't usually hold a lot of appeal for me unless i know the person writing it/ the backstory and process of the oc/ trust the author to build and integrate appropriate and interesting ocs (a really great example of this is santeri @fearlessjournalism 's brushfire, and also casey all of your clsoc fic <3)

24. Are there any easter eggs in [insert fic], and if so, what are they?

idk if it's really an easter egg but jam and i have a running joke about a handful of beats/moments i keep putting into my figgorgug fics, with varying amounts of intention; including but not limited to: diners, pancakes, (fig) sitting on counters/tables, sunflowers, stolen clothes/sweatshirts, and kissing hands <3

48. What’s the last fic you read? Do you recommend it?

i was looking around through the zuko/sokka tag and read a modern nye get together fic and it was. fine. readable but not something i'd bookmark or send to people like "oooh i really liked this"

49. What are you currently working on? Share a few lines if you’re up for it!

working on a fig/gorgug right person wrong time fic rn 😵‍💫 having many thoughts in my silly little head about it <3

There’s something rotting inside of her. Fig’s always been a little on the wrong side of selfish; Sandra Lynn says she gets it from her, but maybe it’s the hell influence too. She wants to be happy for her friends, the freedom from Aguefort and school and childhood thats burning on the horizon for all of them. A whole class of peers ready to stumble forward into the real world all together- college and work and more adventures and quests ready for the taking. Fig wants to be happy, wants to glow with a vicarious joy when Fabian talks about learning specialty knots and sending letters to Garthy and Jamina on the Leviathan. Or when Riz rolls out his conspiracy board and talks through it to them with tapping fingers that itch to get back on the road- with Penny, this time. Fig wants to join in on the excitement when Gorgug and Kristen make plans for finding a cafe on campus that’s theirs and trying to convince the dorms to let them room together. But she’s not. Because Fig can’t help but feel like everyone’s moving on without her. Like it’s the last weeks of eighth grade all over again and her horns are finally getting too big to be covered by her hair and all her (ex) friends have stopped pretending to make plans for the summer or for freshman year with Fig, anymore. The Bad Kids have been Fig’s roots, and her wings, and all the other metaphors she’s shoved into her songs all these years, and she doesn’t really know what she’s going to do with herself without them. Now that it feels like they’re all going their separate ways, with no school year starting in the fall to drag them back together. It’s just Fig, and the band she started because she wanted to scream and hear Gorgug slam on the drums- only this time it’s really just Fig.

What did I fucking say, another Crisis of Faeth song! Fucking love The White Stripes and this is undoubtedly a classic. Fun fact I was at the thrift store a couple of weeks ago and found a White Stripes funko pop set for probably at least half as much as it would be new

I normally think funko pops of just full on real people of a little odd but I had to fucking do it

Other fun fact, to me Gorgug is very Meg White coded, widely considered one of the greatest drummers of a generation but steps out of the limelight because performing just isn't for them

5. I Don't Care - single version by Fallout Boy

Say it with me now, Crisis of Faeth! Listen to it! I like never on purpose listen to Fallout Boy but I was a teenager in the 2010's so I do love Fallout Boy

6. Dead of Night by Orville Peck

I love Orville Peck, I have a pinterest board that's just outfit inspiration for if I ever get to go to one of his shows

7. Dancing on My Own by The Regrettes

Besides being another Crisis of Faeth song, all of The Regrettes song are so fucking Fig Faeth coded to me, like nearly a 4th of my Figayda playlist is The Regrettes because they just sound exactly like something Fig would write about Ayda

8. Satanist by boygenuis

Crisis of Faeth also finally forced me to listen to boygenuis, and I can almost listen to them without having an existential about Lucy Dacus now so 👍👍👍

9. Summertime by Orville Peck

It's extremely unfair that none of the other Orville Peck songs that remind me of my outlaw lesbians come up, like it's a great song, but, come on man

10*. Fences by Paramore

Fucking love Paramore dude, Haley Williams is truly one of the greatest vocalists of a fucking generation and they put on an incredible fucking show (The only thing that could ever get me to go to a music festival is Paramore, I would love to see them live but I know they tend to do some like flashing effects so a dark venue would not be ideal for my epileptic ass) (This is also a Crisis of Faeth song)

*I cheated on this one because the real 10th one was a song Orville Peck featured on that I just don't like very much so I skipped it

3. Do you anticipate writing for a new fandom this year? Which one?

oh, definitely! my partner and i have been watching a lot of the dimension 20 series on dropout, including fantasy high seasons 1 and 2. i got really into figayda when we watched, but we moved on to the unsleeping city very quickly (and now im obsessed with rickyesther), butx2 fantasy high junior year will be dropping in a couple weeks, and i think that will revitalize my interest in figayda and i'll be able to write some fic for them :)

also, this only half counts since i've written a pjo fic before ("tree on the hill" from the lightning thief musical gives me FEELINGS), but im currently watching the pjo show as it drops and it's certainly possible that may eventually inspire me to write a pjo fic or two!

9. Short term goals… what do you hope to complete this week or in January?

Kristen casting greater restoration on riz in the nightmare forest gives me so many feelings. Immediately being like 'whats important is protecting my friend. Im going to make sure everyone gets out of here even if I don't." and then kristen telling everyone to run even though kalina was making a deal to let her live?? and not knowing if she would be able to make it out of the forest in time? How she held on to fig and burrowed close to her to hide from kalina?? so much of a moment. so many feelings
