sweeney todd making that "the closest shave i ever gave" joke TWICE in the span of like. a week really proves that underneath all of the trauma and rage and murderous tendencies and such, he is, at his core, a man who would have made terrible dad jokes every day of his life had he not been sent to jail. you just know one day toby was like "okay i'm done cleaning up" or whatever and he went "hi done cleaning up" without even thinking about it

Want to know how I know Frozen 3 will most definitely not be great? The announcement of a Frozen 4.
The problem with Frozen 2 was that it had many, many ideas and they attempted, and utterly failed, to condense them into one singular linear story; the problem with Frozen 3 is that they "have so many ideas" that they realized they can't realistically condense them into one singular movie so their solution to "not repeat a frozen 2" is to instead push for ALL ideas to move forward which in turn has given them an overly lengthy cut.
Watching Frozen 1 in cinemas for the first time in a long while really reminded me how Frozen worked because it was very very simple and most of its heart was in the two "main" characters and how they navigated through life after a horrendous situation they were put through.
The heart of Frozen is not all the mystical and mythical elements that they can't get enough of attempting to push, hell, the most compelling part of Elsa as a character was just how raw and human she felt DESPITE having otherworldly powers.
I truly don't know which road they're taking the franchise through, but if the podcast and the books that have come out are anything to go by, it's straying way too far from what made the first movie compelling and enjoyable: its freaking simplicity.

I just watched frozen with my niece for the first time since it was released. This movie at its core is the interaction between an avoidant attachment style (Elsa) and an anxious attachment style (Anna). The more Anna tries to protect and interact with Elsa the more Elsa pulls away and the more anxious Anna becomes. I find this to be a very interesting dynamic because neither wants to hurt or lose the other, but they are incompatible.
I also find Anna and Kristoff’s relationship to be really good. Kristoff seems to have a very secure attachment style, which seems to stem from having a large, stable, and loving family in the trolls. I know it is played for laughs but when Kristoff is trying to propose Anna keeps interrupting worried that either Kristoff or Elsa are leaving her and Kristoff always responds with reassurance and love.
Ultimately I think Kristoff’s true nature is revealed when as soon as he and Anna are reunited he asks her what she needs and tells her his love is not fragile. I love how this movie is modeling healthy and stable romantic relationships when a lot of media would use it for drama.
I also love that Elsa is finding fulfillment outside of a romantic relationship. A lot of Disney movies end with the conclusion that the prince and princess must be together to live happily ever after, but Frozen 2 shows that you can find fulfillment and companionship in romantic relationships and you can find fulfillment and companionship without it. This is such an important aspect of life that is ignored in a lot of media. Your life does not have to revolve around dating and romance, finding a spouse is not the end all be all of happiness. Romance is marketed to young girls especially as the path to a happy and productive life and Frozen 2 markets that there is not one way to be happy, that Elsa and Anna want different things and that’s a good thing, because they can play different roles in their world and story.
Long story short I think my 3 year old niece has great taste and that Frozen and Frozen 2 are some of the last great Disney movies. I hope they don’t ruin it with Frozen three.

Since I started my Amigurumi journey I always wanted to make Disney Princesses... So I crocheted this baby Elsa with the intention to crochet every Princess patterns from Green Frog Crochet that I have. But my quest was interrupted for a friend saw Elsa and immediately bought it, commissioning Anna as well to gift her daughter and niece. I gladly made them, and they turned out the most adorable couple of dolls I've ever made! 😍😍😍

Some absolutely awful headcannons of mine:
Alex is misogynistic because he secretly hates his mom for marrying his dad and for dying
Haley and Emily's parents had the same fate as Elsa and Anna's parents
Maru is pitted against Sebastian by Demetrius because he had a superiority complex
Emily takes acid, shrooms, and Molly on the reg
Caroline married Pierre because of family pressure and that's why they're still together despite him being a selfish, deadbeat father and her affair with the wizard
Lewis is narcissistic and uses Marnie to boost his ego and Marnie just likes the attention so she puts up with him
Marnie and Marlon are divorced
Willie drinks with Clint because Clint is the only one who doesn't expect conversation but will talk as background noise as he drinks

All the people who think the sisterhood in Frozen doesn't compare to the sisterhood in Lilo and Stitch are missing the entire fucking point.
They're two fucking separate relationships. Nani got to grow up with loving parents and Lilo didn't and now she has to raise her. Elsa and Anna were willfully separated by their parents (ostensibly to protect Anna but it had a detrimental affect on both of them) and they were closer in age when they were orphaned. IT'S TWO DIFFERENT STORIES. TWO DIFFERENT RELATIONSHIPS.
Nani has to juggle being Mom-Dad-Sister to her little sister who doesn't get to enjoy their parents as long as she did and Anna and Elsa need to heal the divide between them (partially caused by their parents). It's two different problems. Some people are going to relate to one more than the other and that doesn't make one story better than the other.
Now if you want to complain about the animation styles that's something else entirely.

BRO I NEED to know more about these stella leaks
Im tweaking
(Asking anonymously coz viv fans scare the shit outta me)
Oh heyyy uh yeah, it’s not pretty.
Fake leaks with this much detail aren’t a thing and its all on YouTube. so here goes, Stolas moves out of his palace and Stella with Andre take it back. It seems stolas had no choice but to move due to him getting his powers and position taken away for lending his grimoire out illegally (my guess). Kindve a shame because I always liked his palace it added more character than his dialogue ever did.
Via has a mental break about her father leaving her but Stella made him, and faking happiness for her sake all this time, and she’s enraged and confused at him for it, seeing the anti sad pills he overused so much as proof of the deep depression he hid from her. While also demonising anti depressants way to go show, she has visions of her innocent smiling dad being corrupted by an evil imp who he loves. There’s also a scene where she takes her child self from his arms to hold in her own, which I really liked. She also says “you will only know my name” which I bet will last maybe 2 episodes before she moves in with stolas and blitz or something.
The melodrama is incredibly bizarre compared to the cherubs LooLoo land and spring broken fun times we all want but the shippers wanted stolitz drama so here it is. Also the You will be Okay reprise will be nice but I hear it sounds like a Wheezer song.
She awakens her Andrealphus inherited powers, and her scene is basically exactly the same as when Elsa freaked out in front of her palace in front of commoners and threw ice spears around or smth. Knocking stolas over but guess who picks him back up. Then stolas, as you can imagine, runs to her and cries a lot and fawns over her because he’s done nothing wrong in his life it was all that bitch Stella.
It’s literally just Anna confronting Elsa at the palace and her freaking out. It’s literally just that.
Anywayyys back on 4chan it says “Octavia basically kills her mom” after she rejects stolas she renters the palace and most likely either by a misplaced ice spear from her crazy female emotions, or petrification powers bouncing off a mirror? Stella is turned into a statue or into ice. Andrealphus I think, as well. For some reason this time they’re at his house I think. And all four of IMP are standing around for some reason and it looks extremely awkward because they don’t even know this girl but are all very emotionally invested in the Goetia family drama.
But Viv said it’s all ok in the end this is just a plot device to get Stella out of the way of stolitz and force the two to live together all cozy and domestic while Via provides some drama to trauma bind them over. It’s kinda like if Seeing Stars was an entire show.

cannot stop thinking about baby's first snowman!!
picture a chunky ass baby with curly hair (rip her mum who had the worst pregnancy heartburn because matty's hair genes refused to be suppressed) all bundled up in her puffy northface coat (but of course) and a beanie that's just a bit big for her so it keeps falling in her eyes and matty or missus has to keep pushing it back. and it's been snowing in england with the snow actually settling, proper white december so they decide to let her make a snowman.
of course she demands he have a carrot nose and that he's called olaf (idk if matty's impressed or thinks his child is basic) anyway because she's the sweetest child ever she wraps her scarf around it at the end i think because "he might get cold otherwise" 🥹
STOP THATS SO CUTEEEE. DO YOU HEAR THAT, VEE? THATS THE SOUND OF MY HEART BURSTING WITH CUTENESS.
I think Matty’s laughing and taking pictures of the beanie slipping over her eyes and the missus is like scolding him for laughing at his own child’s expense and like cuffing the beanie so it sits nicely on her head. Which of course only lasts for about 5 seconds. She peeks over Matty’s shoulder to see that all the pictures and videos that he’s taking show a tiny child swallowed up by the puffer jacket and the beanie and scarf, all that’s visible is her slightly pink cheeks and her giant goofy smile (which she gets from her dad).
At first little girl is concerned because the ground underneath her feet has gone “crunchy.” Like it makes noise when she steps over it with her teeny tiny snow boots. So she freezes in place and starts crying. It takes a bit of convincing and repeatedly telling her that it’s like Anna and Elsa for her to decide to accept that she’s safe.
Matty, of course, thinks that she would enjoy herself a lot more if she knew the endless fun that is to be had with snow. So he shows her how to make snowballs using Mommy as “target practice.”
But matty has no idea he’s created a monster. She, is, her father’s daughter after all. He goes to pick her up and she smashed a snowball right into his face. It hurts, like, a lot, as anyone who’s been hit in the face with a snowball undoubtedly knows (me). But he’s not about to make her feel bad so he just keeps a straight face and smiles at her.
She insists she’s tall enough to build the snowman but even though its bottom half is getting to be bigger than her. Matty lets her think shes contributing significantly to the snowman but in reality, half the snow is falling out of her tiny little palm before it even reaches the body of the snowman. Without mom and dad, Olaf would be a dream. But she’s so proud of herself and giggling and constantly repeating “it’s a snowman!” so they indulge her.
When it’s all done, they ask her if she wants to take a picture next to it. “What shall we call him? What’s his name?”
She instantly says “Olaf”
Matty goes to say something, but his wife knows him well enough to stop him. “Let her. She’s a child.”
“An unoriginal child?”
“No. Just a child.”
“Fine, okay, he’s Olaf today, but we’re getting her more winter themed kid films. Being a child is no excuse for being basic.” (Spoiler alert: she’s one of those incredibly picky kids. Much to Matty’s horror, she refuses to try out other snowmen but will insist on replaying “let it go” like sixteen million times all winter.)
They set up the camera, go to stand next to Olaf, and that’s when she gives him her scarf.
Matty’s like “you’re so sweet” and she says she didn’t want him to be cold. We’re all wearing stuff and he’s not. Right then and there, he starts sobbing. The missus begs him to cut it out and stop scaring his daughter but he just says she’s already got good big sister instincts and we should just give her a sibling.

Interesting words from Jennifer Lee:
Social media, of course, is already on the case; an avalanche of opinion that Elsa should be gay is gaining force. “That’s dangerous storytelling,” Lee says. “I hear it occasionally in the studio: ‘I don’t want a character who …’
“But it’s not what you want, it’s ‘Who is this character? What does she need?’ It’s hard because you never know what the landscape is like on social media. You can only know what it’s like in that story room.”
In the text she also talks about Elsa's inspiration, which is her own sister, Amy.
“We were kids who grew up with a mom who worked a lot, our parents were divorced. Amy was the responsible one, she had all the burdens. She was magical to me. Everything she did I thought was the greatest thing, though I was not quite so magical to her.”
Lee grins. She’s like a good Disney movie herself. She can switch seamlessly between emotions. “I was the wild child. I had all the creativity, like Anna.”
And some about Elsa's personality:
“Elsa trying to tell jokes is one of the funniest ideas.” Not a natural comedian then? “She tries, the poor thing. I think of her having to face the crowds at Arendelle, an introvert’s nightmare. Things like that are in my head all the time.”
There are other interesting phrases in the interview, but I found these to be the most interesting. I think it's worth a more complete analysis of this interview, @greatqueenanna.

Pretty in pink: Kazuki K & subversion (an homage)
Note: For Kazukiweek 2023: Acceptance
Pink is fresh. It is a happy color. It is positive. It is a sign of good health. That says a lot about Kazuki Kurusu. He has a bubbly personality, his optimism is brimming, especially after the seventh episode. It sure helps that Rei and Miri have become his ethos, have accepted to welcome the changes after five years of losing Yuzu. Usually, he wears his emotions on his sleeve. (But I think that’s only a front.) I love him. Right to the 11th episode, he has totally embraced the new life he’s been leading with Rei and Miri. The fact that he wanted it all along but was apprehensive because of his traumatic experiences made him cautious of the way he dealt with Rei and Miri. Rei’s determination on the second balcony scene was the catalyst because he knew how much K wanted it.
Tumblr media
That fond looks K gives toward his family.
Tumblr media
In the West, we are past that era where men cannot subvert pink’s gendered stereotype. You see men wear pink dress shirts, pink suits and other piece of clothing and they look spectacularly good. It is still a test of bravery for some though. Small boys still despise this color perceiving it as a girly stuff. New mothers try to veer their daughters away from this color by consciously not purchasing and introducing pink-coloured merchandise to their daughters’ color palette only to be disappointed because of peer pressure in the kindergartens. You know Elsa and Anna and the beautiful ladies of Disney and their association with pink? Too common, too banal.
However, “in contemporary Japanese culture, says (Barbara) Nemitz, pink is perceived as a masculine and mournful color that represents ‘young warriors who fall in battle while in the full bloom of life.’” Slain young samurai. All right. (Thanks to PA Works, it didn’t come to that though.)
Tumblr media
It is also the color of sakura, cherry blossoms, which are the Japanese’s favourite flower. They do picnics just enjoying and gazing at the beauty of cherry blossoms (and later, peach blossoms). The Hanami. Some Japanese migrants adapted this ritual/event to their host countries and it is a sight to behold.
Tumblr media
Different shades/nuances of pink worn by K and the moms
Pink has long been associated with homosexuality. The pink triangle. The lgbtq movement reclaimed the former badge of shame used by the Nazis incorporating it into the pride flag later. Though almost 70 per cent of the Japanese society supports it, it still is a huge problem to come out.
While there are no legal implications, coming out remains taboo for many in Japan for fear of being ostracized. A survey of young LGBTQ people published last year found high levels of mental anguish, including suicidal thoughts. More than 90% said they couldn’t talk about their sexuality with their guardians. Very few people in national politics or the corporate world are openly gay, although homosexual themes and LGBTQ celebrities are a staple of television and other forms of entertainment.
“Buddy Daddies” is not marketed as BL, but the show makers can write whatever about their characters. Sometimes implying them without direct confirmation. It depends how the viewers interpret it.
Tumblr media
But K also symbolizes subversion. K’s characterization nonetheless goes against of what is perceived to be the norm in the Japanese society. He is both a nurturer and a protector, though Rei certainly will take over this “protector/saviour” task without any question. From the looks of it, he’d do anything for K and Miri.
Tumblr media
Rei always in front to gauge the danger
An odd man out, K does the household chores while he can carry an adult man without any problem. We have seen him does it more than twice already. He’s loud and conspicuous. In Japan, you must never stand out. (<< - Shogo’s videos are highly recommended to watch btw!) He (and Rei) (go) goes against the rules. They blur the gender stereotyping in all aspects of life.
The crew presented the scenarios as if they were a matter of fact, normal, without making fun or light of it. No further commentary. One can say that it is subversive in a sense they want the audience to become aware of their thoughts on adoption, new family dynamics, the bureaucratic hurdles of enrolling your children and better access to daycare centres/schools to the ever-present mothers who have to give up their jobs and dedicate their lives to their kids, etc.
(It was unfortunate that they didn’t follow it up with Misaki Unasaka.)
Why do I get this feeling that one way or another “Buddy Daddies” had been the show makers’ thinly veiled social commentary on their society?
Anyway, I will miss his winking. Either way, I can still rewatch it.
Many happy returns, K!
