Thoughts on the mentoring thing with fu? And will the tall bald guy with eyebrows (sorry don't know the dudes name '^^ ) appear in your comic as well 🤔
Tall Bald Guy with Eyebrows is pretty much the moniker he deserves, but no, no current plans for Su-Han since I also don't have plans to do "Feast".
As for the mentoring thing...it feels weird that after Fu carried this huge burden for 90% of his life, living on the run, leaving the people he cared about behind... and then deciding to put the same burden on a 14 year old girl. He had next to nothing in terms of understanding the Miraculouses and what it means to be a guardian and then gave only a fraction of what he knew to Marinette when he passed the torch and then doesn't even have to deal with the fallout because he has magic amnesia, so Marinette can't even be upset at him for it. Just upset that things went down the way they did.
I don't like it as a "solution", especially when the Temple is back in the canon story. It is a tough situation and would take me really thinking hard on possible solutions, because based off Fu's recollection of how the Guardianships work, I don't like THEM either.

This opinion is about 3 years late and basically no longer relevant but I’ll say it anyway because I am on a mission to smear Fu’s name
The Queen Bee situation should have been Fu’s to handle.
Marinette at that point wasn’t the guardian, it was Fu’s responsibility to tell Chloe that she can’t be Queen Bee anymore. Yet Marinette did it, and thus received all the backlash for it, both in universe and in the fandom.
And there’s the argument “The heroes can’t know who the guardian is”, well Fu should have gone as Jade Turtle. Plus I think that’s a dumb rule that serves no purpose. And Fu says that the “old rules” are bs and that you don’t need to follow them. While he was the Guardian, all the heroes both permanent and temp were his responsibility and he should have dealt with it. He should have told Chloe she can’t be Queen Bee, as the actual authority figure.
We love a mentor who uses one hero as a scapegoat, and casually ignores the other’s existence. But since Marinette is his scapegoat, she gets to receive all the consequences for his actions.
Also we have Chat being mad at Ladybug for “neglecting” him despite the fact that she wasn’t, yet it’s crickets when Fu was actually neglecting him for three whole seasons. And Ladybug was actually preoccupied with saving Paris every ep, managing the temps and dealing with Chat’s advances, yet it’s still not enough, meanwhile Fu was literally doing nothing all day so had no excuse
If y’all are gonna criticize Marinette’s actions as the Guardian, we need to hold Fu to the same standard. Or higher, since he’s been the Guardian for 100 years and should know better.

I remember you said that the big issue with the ML power system is that they chucked out their "two most powerful" at the start, and it threw everything off when they rolled out more and these more are better or more powerful. So do you think it would have been better if instead of the ladybug and black cat Fu gave out two of the zodiac instead (they'd have different powers of course, simpler and weaker ones, maybe your version of the rabbit with the white magic power and the dog with your version of fetch that's an object repair power)?
What would've been best is Fu sending out Ladybug and something else. Ladybug is a must as it's the only one with the mass restoration and so far specifically designed to answer to Butterfly's misuse. Cat it seems doesn't need to be out, nor do we have a good reason for it to be out, which just makes having both out very risky, especially knowing that Fu has 17/19... or I guess 16/19? Idk, it's up in the air if he has the canon Rabbit at the start as Alix has the watch at the start. Either way, he didn't need to release the two that would make the Wish; I could get it if he had 5/7 and no other miraculous and he wants the best shot at this; but currently it's just a big risk. One of many you got to question him on.
But either way, yeah, Fu could've done that instead; White Magic Rabbit definitely could have covered mass restoration. Snake also could've been solid precaution to have out as the reset button. Dog also would've been super helpful with Fetch able to grab the item and bring it to them. Monkey also could've been useful causing akuma powers to go out of whack. Horse we see is also super solid as a teleporter.
TECHNICALLY following Wu Xing that the 5 are supposed to be based on, Fox and Turtle also should have an edge over Butterfly in some way and could've been safer to release, though no mass restoration, but maybe Fu could've had the Ladybug and be on stand by, use the Cure once the akuma was handled.
Fu also could've even released 2 miraculous to his chosen heroes at the start. Of the few times we see them using miraculous combos, there seems to be little to no issues using 2 at the same time. If he's not going to be involved with his chosen heroes right away, why not give them more of a boost or edge over HM? Especially if going with adults being more powerful than kids.
There's a good few options of what could've done, unfortunately the ML crew didn't think things through or keep up with the show details or lore.

TGCF reread new finds #1
Xie Lian actively and consciously knows that he is attracted to HC the MOMENT THEY MEET in the Ox Cart. Like it’s not just blank gay panic, he knows.
His beauty was deadly like a sword, sharp and mesmerising. Xie Lian only met his eyes for a moment, then lowered his eyes in defeat.
MATE, normally wouldn’t you continue to be mesmerised and can’t peel your eyes away? That is, UNLESS YOURE WHIPPED. XL knows that SL's looks affect him to this degree. Defeat is the key word here.
Also
The distance between them had closed too fast. he suddenly didn't know what to do[...]Xie Lian blanked on the spot. He watched as the tall and slender youth walked away with his giant bag of junk as if it were the most natural thing in the world to do, and it made him mutter inwardly, Forgive my sins.
Making a rich young lad carry your things? Making him sleep in your crappy temple? That doesn't warrant the weighty thought? FORGIVE WHAT SINS Xie Lian??!!!
Many village girls saw (HC) and blushed [...] Xie Lian didn't know what they were going to ask, but felt instinctively that it must be stopped at once, and cried, "No!"
Jealous jealous boi! XL WAS POSSESSIVE after ONE night spent together at Puqi Shrine. Didn’t XL just say to SL that he will have no problem in the love department because girls will throw themselves at him? Yo, why are you cock-blocking? Everyone says HC is insane, no XL is equally insane for the other!
Also, when HC revealed that it's his real skin after the Banyue arc, XL instinctively poked him. Then
He looked at his own finger then hid it away, betraying nothing of his thoughts.
What thoughts XL ?!! Explain yourself right now!
Jumping back to OX CART scene, Xie Lian's character development was foreshadowed when they were talking about the gifting of ghost ashes.
Book 1: Xie Lian sighed. "It certainly is painful to think about, to have given everything for love and lose everything in return."
This is what Xie Lian is most afraid of! Like even thinking back to Xie Lian pushing Feng Xin away in Book 4, he definitely operated under that mindset. Love is a risk, it's something to be feared. Even now 800+ years later, he still feels that way and doesn't allow himself to get close to anyone. It just hits so much harder thinking that he operated under that for so many centuries.
Then Hua Cheng says
"What there to be afraid of? If it were me, I'd have no regrets giving away my ashes"
Which I think really changed the way that Xie Lian thought about love. Book 5 Xie Lian completely operates with Love is empowering and isn't something to be afraid of.
TGCF isn't about XL realising his feelings, literally from Book 1 it's about him wondering if it's worthwhile to act on them.
Three things, is this person worth losing cultivation over for?
He needs the reassurance that this person must reciprocate his feelings.
Then HC changed his perspective on love from FEAR -> EMPOWERMENT.
XL is soooo self-aware (unlike SQQ from SVSSS and WWX from MDZS), he's an unreliable narrator in the way that he doesn't reveal everything to the reader, especially his own feelings until he was absolutely sure that there really was both a physical and romantic attraction. I wanted to make this post to dispel the assumption for XL it was easy to forego 800+ years of cultivation. It was not? He ABSOLUTELY thought about it carefully.

Didn‘t want to make a salt post about the finale bc I just want to be done with canon but also I have thoughts especially now that I‘ve went through some fan discourse
So Adrien wasn‘t involved in the finale and an argument for this are that the what-if episodes show that Adrien would not be able to handle the truth, be akumatized as a result and end up destroying the world. And I understand because the messed up things Gabriel did are a lot to take in so Adrien being overwhelmed and anything but okay does make sense. However that makes me wonder
Why is Adrien even a permanent hero who wields one of the two most important miraculouses if him fighting Monarch is not only completely unhelpful but ultimately a guarantee for the heroes to loose?
If literally anyone else who didn‘t have this connection to Gabriel was the cat, this wouldn‘t be a problem at all! All of Marinette‘s friends are either indifferent towards Gabe or hate him. Of course they would have a moment of shock but most likely not to an extent where they‘d be akumatized into world destroyer, so Adrien being replaced as the cat would actually be beneficial.
Or the writers could‘ve given Adrien actual relevant character developement outside of his relationship with Mari and have him realize his dad isn‘t really a great person and have him find out before the finale what Gabe has been up to so that he has a little time to deal with everything before he tells Lb and they plan their final attack. Like there are ways to write him as a compelling and interesting character who overcomes the control his dad has over him, metaphorically and literally, which would actually be an inspiring character arc for him to get his autonomy he severely lacks.
But no, the writers think of Adrien as a little weakling who will never be able to handle anything that doesn‘t fit his world view bc god forbid he ever feels overwhelmed about anything so he needs to be coddled by Marinette and the narrative and everyone.
The way they‘ve set this up, Adrien is literally the worst choice for the black cat.

I'm sick of ever character in Miraculous being reduced to a love square shipper. Alya, Kagami, Luka, Marinette's ENTIRE class, the news lady EVEN THE FUCKEN ICE CREAM MAN! They all only exist to further the love square. Can anyone have a personality and storyline that doesn't involve forcing Marinette and Adrien together??

Yknow, the "Lila is Manon from the future" theory actually makes sense simply bcs we've seen a whole bunch of out of nowhere plot throughout S5. I mean, what's stopping them from making this canon? Surely it won't be their competence as writers.

So, as a child abuse survivor and someone who has been sexually assaulted by men who think they're entitled to take what they want Adrien is canonically a god damned dick.
He sexually harrasses Ladybug. When told NO he once let 2.161 million people drown because he was busy throwing a tantrum
Being a victim of abuse does not excuse the abuse of others.
He might not mean any harm but you know who else doesn't mean any harm? Gabriel. My goddamned mother.
Not meaning harm- lacking malice- does not mean harm is not caused.
People are going on about him being a rich white guy because anyone else acting like that in public would be considered an antagonist (in fiction), in jail, or have an active warrant for their arrest. And that's assuming they aren't killed for it.
First off, I am truly very sorry for your experience. No one should have to go through that.
But I still do disagree.
Adrien's pushiness when it comes to expressing his affections for Ladybug are in the same boat as Marinette being a stalker or Chloe being pushy with Adrien: it's a joke. You may find it to be a poor one, certainly, but it's a joke nonetheless. Miraculous relies on this kind of humor, it's not meant to be taken seriously. You can have issues with it, but imho acting like it's any kind of legitimate criticism of his character probably makes people like me less inclined to listen to any actual criticisms you may have.
I don't say this to trivialize your experiences, and if the joke is hurtful to you, you are well within your rights to dislike it or talk about how it's in poor taste to make jokes about these things, but that's all it is, a joke. It's absurdist humor. It's not meant to be taken at face value. It would be creepy if Marinette seriously had Adrien's schedule mapped out, tried to break into his house, or stole his personal items, but it's not supposed to be that way because it's a joke.
And as for your complaint about Adrien leaving people to drown, you can go ahead and blame Master Fu for that one. It's stated quite clearly in the show that the heroes couldn't do anything because everything is underwater. And he's staying there because he's waiting for Ladybug. Making up imaginary civilians who are drowning now isn't a good criticism. Ladybug spends a good amount of time underwater, but there's no-one there. There's no civilian begging for Chat Noir's help as they drown while he ignores them, so suffice to say that we're supposed to assume everyone is safe and sound. This is a kids show, so unless we're shown that people are in danger, we aren't supposed to assume they are.
And then let's talk about Adrien almost quitting.
I'll say it straight: he has every right to quit. He's a 14-year-old kid. This isn't his job. He's well within his rights to quit if he feels like this is detrimental to him. And it isn't about Ladybug not returning his feelings like you seem to be implying. This is about Ladybug keeping secrets from him and leaving him in the dark even though he's supposedly her partner. It took a situation like this for Master Fu to pull his head out of his ass and come give Adrien the tools he needed to do the damn job you're accusing him of not doing. How is he supposed to do anything if he isn't given then necessary tools and knowledge to do it? Should he just accept that he's being ignored and left in the dark? Accept his new role as Ladybug's unquestioning lapdog?
This is not Ladybug salt btw, this is Master Fu salt only, in this house we don't like Master Fu.
Anyway.
Literally look at why he tries to quit.
Adrien:(grimly) If you don't tell me what Ladybug is hiding from me, I'm done! Plagg: You can't do that! Adrien:(bitterly) Why not? No one'll know if I quit. No one'll care!
He doesn't think he's needed. He doesn't think anyone would care if he quits.
This isn't because of any entitlement. It's because he's being cast aside and left in the dark. It's because his partner (it's not her fault either, to be clear, it's Master Fu's fault) is keeping secrets from him even in this time, so he assumes he isn't needed and decides to quit because he feels like he's unnecessary and unwanted, and that no one will care if he quits. Adrien already has very low self-worth, and this is just adding onto all that already. If it is detrimental to his mental health, then he definitely has the right to step aside and quit.
So yeah. If this ask was to get me to change my mind, I'm sorry, but it didn't. You're entitled to your opinion, of course, but I think I've made my opinion on the matter clear.

I'm going to have a lot of hate for this but it had to be said and it was said
me:
Tumblr media
Neither of them are the perfect protagonists and instead of blaming each of them they should realize who is responsible for the lack of communication and teachings in their relationship
Tumblr media
I agree
This is now an anti-Fu page Mans has ruined Hawaiian shirts for everyone forever
(Warning, long post)
Jokes aside, it's easy to pin the blame on one or more characters for the shortcomings of a show, but it's really all down to the writing.
I've joked that Fu could be removed and very little would change, but it's true. All the exposition and potions could be handled by the Kwamis, and there's no real reason why LB and CN couldn't just summon the other Miraculous because they're the sacred duo.
To me, Fu just feels like they desperately wanted to include a "wise old mentor" character without properly considering the choice. It's just derivative of other media (Harry Porker, Star Wars, LOTR, TMNT, Kung Fu Panda etc), shoving Fu in because you HAVE to have a mentor character right?
And it sucks because I think Fu's character does help the story in a small way. I like that the heroes aren't special chosen ones. Anyone could wear the earrings or the ring, it all depends on what kind of person they are. The kwamis didn't choose their holders. (Piss off, Kwami's Choice) So in that regard, I think Fu works. But then, besides Feast, they proceeded to do nothing with him and then didn't have the balls to kill him off.
At the end of the day, Fu is still the worst. He picks two literal children to do his bidding after doing nothing for over 100 years, while having access to all the other Miraculous, which is includes the TIME TRAVEL Miraculous. Doesn't do any background checks on these two children, so doesn't know if they'd be able to drop what they're doing at any time and go save Paris. Proceeds to only "train" one of the two heroes, and treats meeting him like a privilege they have to earn. I think they "earned" the right to meet him the moment he picked them to fix his mistakes. Barely properly trains Marinette (or it's all off-screen) and just ignores Adrien. Then when his own identity is at risk, he confiscates the Miraculous and proceeds to run away, leaving Paris at risk with 0 defenders. But at the end of the day, he's meant to be viewed as a wise martyr who just made a couple silly mistakes, and can now go live a carefree life despite doing fuck all to make amends for what he's done.
If you want a story about a disgraced mentor who's fucked up bad but then makes amends and grows from it AND is super entertaining? Just watch Rise Of The TMNT's Splinter. He's fantastic.
Fu rant aside, the true villain is of course the writing
In the hands of a good writer, Marinette and Adrien could be gold standard protagonists, I can feel it in my bones. But the show's... interesting (derogation) writing choices prevent them from living up to their true potential.
If you have the time, I recommend everyone take a look at this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfSszhlZVoU
How to alienate your audience. It's a very good video and super helpful for learning about writing. The short version is: A good writer presents a character without telling you how to feel about them. If you treat your audience like morons, lecturing them about how to feel about a character, you've failed as a writer.
And that's one of ML's biggest failings. It doesn't want you to have a nuanced viewing experience. It's either "Character X is good" or "Character Y is bad". Despite Fu being the fucking worst, the show bends over backwards to go "No no he's a amazing person. His not death is really tragic, be sad about it damnit!" Ladybug and Chat Noir can't be upset at Fu for his failings. Adrien can't get angry at him for neglecting him (but can then get mad at Ladybug for the same thing despite her NOT neglecting him. Fuck you, Kuro Neko) Marinette can't be upset at Fu for basically hijacking her life by choosing her to be Ladybug and then the Guardian The only character who's been angry at Fu is Su Han, but he's then "well actually"-ed into letting the issue go.
Fu gets to become a "tragic" character who just wants to be with his one true love. Ok, then use Time Travel to fix your mistake. Or unify the Ladybug and Black Cat to fix your mistake. Or use a power pulled outta the Rooster's ass to fix your mistake. And he doesn't have the excuse of "The Guardian can't use the Miraculous" because Ladybug and Jade Turtle are right there. I'm not gonna feel sympathetic for the guy who sat around, did nothing, ran away and then made Marinette do all the work for him. Am I talking about Fu or Adrien? We may never know.
Rant done.

You know before the reveal of Feast, I actually had a fanfic-ish theory on what destroyed the order, the peacock and what had Fu so Scared
I initially had this theory of the guardians not only protecting the miraculous from the world but the world from the Kwamis, since there’s so many concepts (propulsion, destruction, action, etc) I thought that some concepts would be too dangerous with the Kwamis acting according their Concept (Plagg is a trouble maker, the tiger is loud, the bee is loyal, etc) so I thought of kwamis which acted on their concept way too much (regeneration regenerating too much which caused things like painful deformations, infection basically creating monster zombies, fortification being walking fortress of destruction, manipulation causing wars out of pure pleasure, etc) and I thought the thing that destroyed the order would be like the opposite of Plagg and Tikki, the two are a eternal loop of balance, of entropy and birth, of light and darkness, creation and destruction. So the bad guy would be the End of said valance
Like a villain similar to the Lich of adventure time which wanted nothing but the destruction of everything, the end of the cycle, the end of everything that is, was and will be. A villain that would mark himself has evil and would keep doing it because that’s he’s nature and doesn’t think he should go against it
I think Fu would have accidentally freed this Kwami of the end but the guardians sacrificed themselves and thousands of miraculouses (because we already have enough heroes) to trap it once again and the reason Fu ran away is because some of the leaking power of the End miraculous freed some minions of the kwami which want the miraculous of creation and Destruction so their master can destroy EVERYTHING
In a show about the miraculous (heck they even come before of ladybug’s and cat noir’s name) I think the most fitting villain would be a miraculous
That would explain why Fu was so scared of losing the Miraculous without pulling up the stupidity of the wish in default ending the world, since losing the miraculous could mean Literally the end of everything
Heck I even made a OC (the minion of the kwami chasing down Fu) which was just “hey what if I make a villain rival for ladybug that doesn’t have disgusting implications of being a minor (a rival that is a adult) so when she’s defeated the audience will cheer instead of being disgusted or sad for seeing a (technical) child being dragged into the depths of HELL” also to explain why the peacock was broken since the miraculous of the end (which rivals the power of creation and destruction together) could 100 break the miraculous, it would make the audience know how dangerous this powers are and would make it look important since the damage he caused started the whole show
Also it would rise the stakes better than Gabriel’s personality making a 180 and the wish having the most bullshit consequences, since the wish would be used to end the world
I even wrote a fanfic of the escaped minion being the reason the Timeline changes in cat blanc to make the world end, so the audience knows how corruptive, destructive, unnatural, evil this kwami is with its first plan including manipulating the minds of kids (Rossi slightly and heavily Lila) to start all the events, manipulate Gabriel to hurt he’s son, make cat Blanc fight ladybug and destroy the world. Lila and chloe are just kids, Gabriel is a broken man, but this thing? This thing and he’s minions are what people B.C. saw that inspired the Devil, Hell and demons
Seriously when I discovered a sentimonster (one the order had designed on their book) was the one who destroyed ALL of the guardians, I felt nothing but disappointment, specially when they don’t explain how the peacock was broken by a mere sentimonster
I expected something grand, something that would make Gabriel see the error of he’s ways with how insignificant he is compared to the forces he was trying to control, but instead I just got a sentimonster…
Am I the one in the wrong? Was I expecting too much? Because even till this day I still feel disappointed, specially by how pathetic and uninteresting Feast was. seriously if you changed Feast and that dragon giant from the Shanghai special, I would be pleased since at least I can see a threatening, smart and powerful monster which scales above Hawkmoth in every way (power, evilness, design, lore) being the one at fault of the destruction of this mighty guardians, but instead they died to a frog!
That was a pretty interesting and detailed backstory, anon. Do you have a link to the fanfic you wrote involving the minion?
You're not wrong to expect more from the backstory of one of this show's characters. I don't think anyone really expected the backstory that kicked off the plot to amount to "The monks who trained me were dicks, I got hungry, so I played God and accidentally wiped out the aforementioned monks with a blue frog."

the AD scene of Hua Cheng setting Xie Lian loose in the armory for the first time is SO fucking cute 😭😭 XL's like a little kid in a candy store, he's bouncing off the walls. The start of the scene is so silly:
谢怜:——是兵器库?可......可以摸啊? 花城:哥哥随意。 谢怜:这短剑阴锋诡谲,最宜刺杀!此刀只需择一明主,以一当百没有问题.....等等!这是什么?这是不是双头转灵剑——我只在传说里听过! 花城: 哥哥,你觉得如何? 谢怜:还有这把,什么如何? 花城:喜欢吗? 谢怜:喜欢啊! 花城:有多喜欢? 谢怜:太喜欢了!
[Enters the armory] Xie Lian: —Is it an armory?! Can... can I touch? Hu Cheng: You're free to do as you wish Gege. Xie Lian [excitedly grabs a weapon]: The edge on this dagger is treacherous, it's perfect for assassinations! This knife only needs to choose a talented master, you could go one against a hundred, no problem! Wait! What’s this?! [Draws a sword] Is this a double-ended spiritual sword?! I've only ever heard of it in legends!! Hua Cheng: Gege, what do you think? Xie Lian: [absentmindedly] And this one.... Think about what? Hua Cheng: Do you like it? Xie Lian [with delight]: I like it!! Hua Cheng: How much do you like it? Xie Lian [excitedly]: I like it so much!!!! [Xie Lian runs off to look at more swords and the scene continues]
