A MacBook AIR M1 running Ableton Live with a few other plug-in’s including Omnisphere, Virtual CZ, Korg Prophecy and Wavestation and the wonderful Aalto by Madrona Labs. Effects are all Sound Toys along with Valhalla’s Vintage Verb. To the side is my Cornwall EMS Synthi connected to a tiny Eurorack POD with some random modules, a slope generator and a few other utilities. The keyboard is a small QuNexus, Genelec 8010 monitors and a Rode interface.

Here it is, my big blank page, torn up and taped back together again, so often. Each time I do, the pieces are smaller, the puzzle is more complex and all the richer for it. I’ve given so much thought to bringing this to an end, failing to see that it’s just a new start after all, already here, fully formed and alive, waiting for me to catch up. Walking into my new space for the first time after completion, I was genuinely terrified, the wait was over and it was time to prove I could live up to it. So I opened the last track I was working on when I left my old studio, cranked up the @genelec_oy and it all came rushing back. I was home. My vision for this place could never have become a reality without some extremely talented and loving spirits, first of all, @rakelacchino for encouraging me to dream bigger and live larger and setting me straight whenever the challenges became hard to handle. @flanalog for always being there when I needed you. Every time. Without fail. I’m honoured. @lowswing_studio and @kraatzstudios for your support and for not letting me back down. My new studio neighbours @key.ratio and @valerio.massucci for your patience and making the whole process as easy as possible. And Wim Tavernier for sharing your woodwork expertise. It’s been a pleasure sharing this process with you in photos and words, and on day 5, the last day of my studio construction recap, thank you so much for reading and sharing your thoughts with me. aaaaaaaAAAAA I don’t care if we don’t get any Olli/Allu content (I actually do but anyway) but just the fact that Allu traveled over 600 km to hang out with Olli and celebrate his birthday!!! 😭😭💞💞💞 yes it might be a small thing but I’ll be thinking about this for the rest of the day 🤧

It really is so very soft of them and yessss, even if we don't get "official confirmation" that they are indeed celebrating Olli's bday together we still KNOW they're together and that's what matters 🥺💕 and whatever other business Aleksi may be in Oulu for is completely irrelevant 🥰

Also, this is probably irrelevant as well and doesn't mean anything (although it totally does and you KNOW what it means), but I just love how Joonas travelled to some exotic location the very first thing their "holiday" started, but Aleksi? Why, he travels 600 km to hang out with Olli, as if they hadn’t just done that every day for an entire month 😭💕💓💗💕💓💕

(I also immediately thought of them streaming together but I'm not gonna get my hopes up jk I already did)

to get these shots from the Genelec interview, they’d have had to record him playing- which begs the question!! Do they still have the footage of Ville playing an acoustic Run Away From the Sun just sitting around somewhere?? also begs the question if they'll ever release said footage!

ik its obvious like, duh ofc they had to record him playing in order to get those shots for the interview etc etc, but think abt it! provided it was all mic'ed up, there's a decent chance a live acoustic version of Run Away From the Sun from Genelec already exists? i can't see it ever being released but what if it does 😳

ik we're bound to get live acoustic stuff eventually, but with this being from his actual home studio it would be so cool! wishful thinking anyway, got my fingers crossed 🙏 (thank you for coming to my ted talk)

なぜ、このような試聴会を行うようになったのかを改めて考えると、「聴くには技術や訓練がいる」ということを再発見したからです。

その再発見のきっかけを与えてくれたのは、黒鳥社の若林恵さんです。

2022年の9月に2日間の単独公演の演目の中に「レコードを聴く」という試みをDJの文脈とは異なる形で行いました。ライブパフォーマンスの後に、制作の際に影響を受けたレコードを聴いていただきました。

静かに黙って聴くという体験、そして、それを限定された人数と共有しながら、お酒も呑まずじっと静かに座って聴くことは、最近ではあまり見かけません。

この演目を行うきっかけは、地元の友人たちと共有してきた思い出から生まれました。それは、地元の友人たちに向けて買ってきたレコードなどを、物語を意識しながらDJの真似事をしていた日々や、先輩の家で未知のレコードに出会った体験です。

当時はアンプなどの最低限のオーディオ知識も必要でしたし、レコードは大切に扱うこと！という文化もあり、音楽好きの父のレコードの扱い方の教えもありました。だからこそ、レコードを初めてスクラッチしたり、VESTAXのミキサーでレコードを二枚使いした日、好きだったHIPHOPのアーティストのサンプリングソースを聞かせてもらったことは今でも強く記憶に残っています。

僕の青春時代である90年代は情報が貴重でしたから、レコード屋やクラブでかかるレコードに必死で耳を傾けていました。そして、ターンテーブルの上で回転する印字されたラベルやDJが棚から出すレコードジャケットを覚えようと必死でした。

金銭的に余裕のない学生時代、貴重なレコードの音と向き合う時間は、1秒も逃したくないと感じていました。

（当時の1990年代の中盤から後半は、レコード屋での試聴は極度の緊張を強いられる行為でした。友人と一緒にレコード屋で試聴しすぎて出入り禁止になったことも、、、今では素晴らしい思い出です笑）

話が長くなりましたが、、、

音楽を聴くことに対して貪欲で真剣だった当時の自分を思い出し、どうすれば能動的に音楽と触れ合えるキッカケを作れるかについてよく考えます。

上記のような、経緯や思考のモヤモヤがある中で平野さんとのご縁があり、去年10月に第一回目の試聴会を行うことができました。

自分たちも楽しんでレコードを聴く会として、「珈琲とラジオのように」というタイトルで試聴会の第二回目を行います。

音響もGENELECやターンテーブルを持ち込んで本気で取り組んでいます。
