In class we talked about the film NOPE where one of the first connections that we would make is that the film would show how people in Hollywood are chewed and spit out. We see this when the UFO would chew and spit out the people that it has taken throughout the film. One of the main characters/ coprotagonists, Jupe would go through trauma as a child when the entire cast of the film that he is a part of would get killed by Gordy besides him. His trauma would also be that he has lost his new companion which is Gordy because it seems they were going to be friends before he got shot. He would know that there is an alien in the sky and would buy OJ horses to make them sacrificial for the alien ship to appear. We also see the differences between the way that OJ and Emerald would go through the grief of losing their father. The father would not teach Emerald how to ride a horse when she was younger and would give more attention to OJ than her. This is why she is so reluctant to sell the business and would not take the death of their father as hard as OJ took it.

NOPE had significantly more of a budget than Get Out and we would not see this with black film until after the Geroge Floyd era because people would be used to just hiring their friends to be in their movies. Angel would be the central character that would work for a failing tech store and would become a pivotal part of the story with OJ and Emerald. We also talked about the book The Keeper that would have had a main theme of trauma and trauma within the family. We see that both Aisha and her grandmother would go through the trauma of losing Aisha's parents. Darnell would go through similar trauma than what Aisha has gone through because they would both be taken care of by the Keeper based on the loss of a family member. Another form of trauma that we would see from Aisha would be the encounter that she had with the police officer in the beginning of the book. When Aisha was collecting her toys, she would be held and verbally harassed by the police officer. This is when the grandmother would come up and defend Aisha, while she is being harassed in the front yard. The Keeper would not only take care of the person that it was meant to, but it would eat other people when it is hungry that would not do anything to harm. We see that Aisha starts to believe that The Keepers actions would be her fault and would start to feel guilty. Towards the end of the book, she realizes that she would have to save her friends from The Keeper because it would attempt to kill them.
