there are many ways i would like this to go, evil Duke is an option but honestly? i want divorced single father Gnomon having a bad time

Duke is one of those kids that just keeps asking "why" on a loop indefinitely until you give up, please consider the kind of education Gnomon would have to provide his genius son in order to keep him entertained, because an understimulated Duke is Not something Anyone wants to have

Doug and Elaine substituted some of this with like the library and collective community action what's Gnomon gonna do? world domination? smh my head

and then when he gets older? grandiosity is left at the door. "you are the heir of my immortal blood" "and you are a glowing pain in the ass fuck off old man"

the thing about Doug and Elaine is that they Earned Duke's respect and so he loves them and is kind to them, Gnomon didn't earn Shit his ego is too big for that so Duke doesn't respect him even a little

Gnomon would have such divorced dad energy too, something Duke will definitely make fun of him for when he's older, and especially something along the lines of "you can't buy your childs love have you tried just being less of an ass"

Like in an AU where Elaine Thomas never managed to get away from Gnomon (Duke’s bio dad), Duke has zero intentions of actually helping his dad so Evil Immortal Things and every intention of fucking him over. So he becomes Signal to use what he knows form his dad’s weird and borderline abusive attempts to bond with him to like, get him caught by the Justice League, all while Elaine tries to stop herself from having a heart attack daily.

Meanwhile Crystal Brown is Jokerized or killed or whatever by a villain attack, and so Stephanie Brown, newly thrown into Gotham’s foster system, decides to join We Are Robin, partially because she’s angry as shit at the injustices that let her dad keep escaping and killed her mom, partially because she loves Batman and Robin, and partially because she likes fucking over police. And then decides she wants to throw bricks more, hence, Spoiler.

Another Void & Gold Post!

I'm going to cure Elaine & Doug of this weird Joker bullshit if it kills me & I'm making it a whole thing about why they're so difficult to cure

Duke has been trying for years to both find & cure his parents, but for some reason nothing can fix them. All the other victims have made some recovery but they just wont.

His mom is doing the worst, she barely responds to outside stimuli, the only noise she makes are giggles & laughs. He can't even look her in the eyes anymore, they've gone so dull, lost that luster that Duke remembers her for.

His dad is a bit better, he reacts to more aggressive stimuli, always asking for help for his wife, begging for someone to look for his son. Asking for his sister & her family, sometimes even his long dead parents. His desperation & pain make it so hard for Duke to sit there & listen to him speak.

Duke just wants his parents back, but nothing seems to be working. He was almost going to resign himself to this being all they could be when some new information came up.

Bruce had been looking into the "why" & he stumbled upon it. There was something inherently different about Elaine's very being, she was human yes but a different kind then what would be normal on this Earth. Doug by close association with her had taken on a few of those traits.

So the theory of Elaine not being from this dimension was brought up as very feasible. There where of course some difficulties across the board.

Duke getting desperate to find some kind of information about his mother before she came to Gotham. And the only person who could have possibly known her is Gnomon, her ex [husband?] & Duke's bio dad.

So Duke's sitting in the visitation room of a meta-human prison staring down Gnomon, who looks like he doesn't give much of fuck.

G: So you've finally come to visit, finally come to ask about me? D: Yeah no, I just wanted to ask about mom, not exactly here for your sob story. G *sighs*: Yes of course, Elaine must have kept some things from you. Especially considering how ill equipt you where when fighting me. Did she not want to talk about her past with you, even now that you know about me? D: More like she couldn't. G *eyebrow raise* D *deep breath*: Mom & Dad have been thoroughly Jokerized for a couple years now. Everyone else has made a proper recovery but they haven't. The doctors have come to the conclusion that something is fundamentally different about mom. We think it's dimensional. And you're the only person who knew her before she showed up in Gotham, so you'd know the best. *tense silence* G *mumbling*: Well you're not wrong. G: Elaine & I aren't, under a technicality, from this world. D: So you can guess what's wrong with them? G: Not with any accuracy, not unless & I see it up close. D *groan*: You aren't even set up for parole yet, & I'm not letting you out. G: Child it was never about anyone letting me out. It was always about when you & Elaine would muster up the courage to come talk to me. I can leave whenever I want. And if what you say is true, then you're Mother & Douglas are on a bit of time crunch at the moment. *D glares at G, who is smirking* D: I don't like this. G: I'm not about to hurt you Duke, I've done all I wanted on the getting your attention front. D: How do I know you're not lying G *serious*: Elaine was my first friend & love, you are my son, and you both deeply care for Douglas. Any harm I may cause to either of you three or anyone else you care for, for that matter, would only grant me your ire. And I do not want that. D *sighs*: I'll see what I can do.

So science, not my strong suit, but a small passion of mine. Still not going to go in amazingly thought out depth of it

Gnomon is able to pinpoint the reason Elaine & Doug are taking so long is because the Joker venom used on them had traces of Nth metal

An off shoot of Elaine & Gnomon's previous home dimension of The Sphere/The Collective, so their immune systems where having a hard time differentiating between the invading Nth metal & Elaine's own energy

As is it has been a long while since Elaine had rejuvenated any of her powers

The simple fix was to reintroduce Elaine's energy still within The Collective

A whole adventure to The Sphere happens as a sort of Father-Son bonding trip for Gnomon & Duke. Something that I'll probably have fun hashing out later in another post. But in the end they get back, synthesis the cure & get it to Elaine & Doug!

Elaine snaps out of it first, quickly followed by Doug, a tearful reunion between child & parents ensues

Man kann Geschichte und Theorie des Rechtes als Geschichte und Theorie der Trennungen und Austauschmanöver entwerfen, als Geschichte und Theorie der Beständigkeit und Stabilisierung und als Geschichte und Theorie der Unbeständigkeit oder Meterorologie. Ich glaube, dass eine Reihe von Geschichten und Theorien sich auf eine Seite geschlagen haben, warum nicht. Ich glaube, dass das eine Seite inwendiger Selbstbehauptungen ist. Man unterscheidet was, begibt sich auf die Innenseite der Unterscheidung und internalisert sie. Warum nicht. Vielleicht ist es so, dass es in Deutschland eine Schlag gibt, der mit einer Geschichte Deutschlands zu tun hat, etwa dem dem Preußischen Staat, seinen Wissenschaften, seinem Weber und auch seinem Luhmann. Es kann sein, dass Luhmann sich auf eine Seite geschlagen hat.

Die l'uhmannistische Geschichte und Theorie des Rechtes ist auch Evolutionstheorie - und wird im L'uhmannismus unter anderem durch vier Medien erläutert, nämlich die Sprache, die Schrift, den Buchdruck und den Computer. Bei dreien davon ist die Aufmerksamkeit auf einen Aspekt der Trennung und der Vermehrung und Vergrößerung von Trennung (etwa im Hinblick auf eine Steigerung von Komplexität) gerichtet. Die l'uhmannistische Differenzvermehrungvorstellung ist auch Teil einer Geschichte der Differenzierung, die als Ausdifferenzierung verstanden wird. Das Recht wirkt dadurch wie gründlicher und gründlicher geworden, jeweils gegenwärtig auf der Höhe der Zeit. Erst beim letzten Medium, dem Computer, wird diese l'uhmannistische Vorstellung melancholisch: ihr fehlt nun etwas, was sie hat und räumt die Möglichkeit ein, dass Ausdifferenzierung verlustig gehen kann.

Das ist alles gut dargestellt, gut durchdacht, das hat ein Ziel und peilt es an, gut so. Um so mehr interessiere ich mich aber für eine Geschichte und Theorie des Rechts, die an Austauschmanövern hängt, sogar an schwindeliger Bewegung, also an halbseidenen Wechseln und Verwechslungen, an Unbeständigkeit oder Meteorologie.

Die Abwägungen des Bundesverfassungsgerichtes sind kritisierbar, aber eines ist an ihnen besonders interessant: nämlich gerade das, was Luhmann eine vague Assoziation nennt und für einen Mangel hält, der abgestellt werden müsste. Das ist nur ein Beispiel, dabei eines, das eher von meiner Erfahrung als Anwalt (lange ist das her) als von der Erfahrung eines Akademikers lebt. Der Anwalt hat mit fehlender Systematik nicht so große Probleme, ganz im Gegenteil, sie beflügeln, und nicht nur das Geschäft.

Warburgs Rechtswissenschaft ist Teil seiner Polarforschung und die Polarforschung ist Teil seiner Rechtswissenschaft. Man kann sagen, dass das seit den Anfängen so ist, also seit 1896. Immerin beginnt er seine (autodidaktische) Rechtswissenschaft nach der anthropologischen Erfahrung 'kleiner Trennungen', der Erfahrung einer magischen Rationalität und einer tänzerischen Erfahrung. Er beginnt auf einem Schiff, auf Wellen und auf Wasser. Anderseits wird der Zusammenhang zwischen Polarforschung und Rechtswissenschaft aber erst 1912 öffentlich explizit, mit dem berühmten Vortrag in Rom.

Greift man Warburgs Anregungen auf, dann sollte man meines Erachtens andere Objekte, Medien und techniken aufgreifen, als man sie l'uhmannistisch aufgreifen würde. Entweder nicht Sprache oder aber ein anderes Sprechen, entweder nicht Schrift oder ein anderes Schreiben, entweder nicht Buch oder ein anderes Lesen, entweder nicht Computer oder eine andere Vernetzung: auf so eine Suche würde ich mich begeben.

Warum nicht aus Nehmen-Teilen-Weiden erst ein Scheiden- Schichten- Mustern machen und dann ein Kehren- Kippen- Zehren. Warum nicht einmal schätzen, messen, zählen, mustern, schichten und skalieren? Wenn man an Trennungen und Austauschmanövern gleichermaßen interessiert ist, können solche Techniken und Medien interessant werden, die auch beides tun, aber beides in Wendungen, Drehungen, Kehren und Kippen tun, die nicht deswegen unbeständig sind, weil in ihnen das Wissen leer wird. Die sind unteranderem deswegenn unbeständig, weil Gewissheit und Ungewissheit Kontakt halten, ihren Kontakt nicht verlieren. Man kommt in Wissen nicht rein, weil man nicht raus kommt. Keine Vergößerung ohne Verkleinerung, keine Vermehrung ohne Verminderung.

Fragen der Zeitmessung liefern ein Modell für die Suche nach solchen Medien und Techniken. Die Objekte die dort auftauchen, sind Stäbe, Kugeln, Tabellen: Objekte, die Drehungen ermöglichen indem sie Drehung zumindest Wort und Bild, Orientierung und Handlung geben. Polobjekte sind Objekte im Umgang mit Polarität, die nicht als das Inkommensurable ausgeschlossen werden soll. Dass die Erde sich um einen Achse dreht, das ist nämlich gar nicht so schlimm, dass man es stoppen müsste. Eigentlich ist es sogar ganz gut, dass sie Licht und Schatten hat - und sich beides immer verschiebt, natürlich ins Uneigentliche mit hinein. Dass etwas erscheint, ohne mit der und in der Gegenwart etwas anfangen zu können, weil es schon Entfernung braucht, um einen Anfang markieren zu können, und dass etwas entfernt wird, ohne zu verschwinden, die Unbeständigkeit noch der phänomenologischen Erfassbarkeit - das ist alles nicht so schlimm, als dass man es gleich platt machen müsste. Dass sich Differenz nicht auflösen und nicht tilgen lässt, ist nicht so schlimm, als man sich irgendwann auf eine Seite schlagen müsste.

"light" isn't just light, it's electromagnetic radiation, duke can already see the full EM spectrum, what's to say he can't control it too given enough time?
