Run, Chee, run!
Chee and K-80 run away from the Greater Godspawn creature. K-80 belongs to a friend of mine, it is not my character or creation.

It's a little bit fucked up that Bhaal had Durge kill every connection they made with their own hands - foster family, and paladin Drge (and presumably other classes with their own equivalents to) slaughtering their paladin order, and whatever those repeat incidents where they broke their oath was - and forced them to become his vessel.
And then, on the non-Chosen path, Durge is torn away from their family and forced to kill everybody they knew and possibly cared about with their own hands.
Sure, objectively the latter is different: the first case was them being moulded into the puppet of a god, and the second leaves them with a blank slate and the ability to be a better person and determine their own path in life. We think. Yes, I'm glaring at you, Withers.
But does it feel that way for them?
And there's as much blood on their hands as that on the corpses they've left on the ground. Orin and Gortash's crimes were also their crimes. Orin is no different to Durge, she had no choice in her life, she just never got the chance to ever be different. Durge shouldn't be different, Jergal just decided to step in and "make it all better" - and where was this divine intervention decades ago, before a "little Urge" hadn't yet torn apart a family in their own home, or before they came anywhere close to inflicting the Absolute on the world? Why does it come when it's too fucking late.
The main plot was their plan! They are the main villain of this story, they just wandered onto the wrong side of the conflict! By accident! In this little narrative of heroes and villains, bar a single accident, Durge would be left rotting on the floor next to their little sister and the tyrant they admired. It's not like this is necessarily a redemption arc either! Durge can still be an absolute monster! Also how the fuck do you even start to atone for all the horrors they committed? Does saving x amount of people really do anything to alleviate the harm they've already done? How much culpability do you assign to somebody who only has the pretence of autonomy?
There are other ways to interpret Durge and how they experience their redemption/"redemption" arc, of course, but if I were them I'd want to nap for a week after the final battle. Or a month. Maybe a few years...

i love characters who are so unaccustomed to kindness without motive or agenda that it makes them hostile towards anyone kind to them. characters who are so worn down by abuse and being taken from that they can’t stomach it. can’t fathom it, convinced every goodness is a transaction. they turn into cornered animals at even the most benign kindness, waiting to see what will be demanded of them in turn.

I'm crying over the comedic potential of Gortash having feelings for someone with 8 int.
Like, Levi is an idiot! He is this "because we're smart" meme from Parks &Recs. He is charming and funny and wise, but he is Not Clever.
How humiliating it has to be being attracted to him of all people? Especially when Gortash values intellect a great deal.
Also I just bet the "immune to emotions-altering influence" part of the Cloth of Authority is partly because of Levi.
Because there's no way Gortash actually feels all these emotions for that murder hobo on his own, there's no fucking way-
But then he takes the cloth of authority on and nothing changes.
Oops. How does it feel to be a human being, Lord Gortash?

Current mood: wishing there was an opportunity for Durge to bring up the whole "Uh yeah I kind of killed your wife" thing with Aylin. Like, on the one hand she would not take that well but on the other she might kind of understand as a godspawn? Even if it ended up making her into an enemy I'd really like the option to raise the subject, just to see what happens. As it is it seems like if you kill Isobel (or at least if you kill her after the Harpers leave for Moonrise) Aylin doesn't even know Isobel was resurrected, which simplifies the whole thing, but it would still be so fun to be able to raise the issue with her.

ok sure but imagine the sibling interactions between wings and non-wings. “SHUT IT BIRD BRAIN GET BACK HERE SO I CAN PLUCK YOU, YOU CHICKEN” (shifts between planes to catch them or hold person spell.) like. i understand angst, but siblings will be little shits to each other, and sometimes. might not even care. like. one can have wings, but the other is better at swordplay in comparison. one could be more knowledgeable about sêlune and climb ranks in the enclave (and not just from nepotism being her grand-child.) like. yeah coming from experience it fucking sucks when your siblings are born with advantages you dont have. but its not yours, theirs, or parents fault. doesnt mean they arent going to show-up one each other any chance they get. and i scarcely believe isobel or aylin would let any of their children feel any less than
BIG agree on isobel and aylin making sure they don't feel less than the rest - and hell to the yeah on sibling rivalry! i know for sure with my siblings how much we wind each other up, and these kids are no exception.
and the nepotism arguement is definitely factored in when they join a temple, you're totally right. even if just one of them decided to become a full-blown selunite outside of being raised in it/being...well, being selunites (mini selune's, hehe, aylin crows that it's sacrilege to call them aylinites, isobel), there would be so much low-key, and high-key, drama balancing them being a novice and also genuinely being a descendant of selune. we saw how well-protected the priests of lathandar kept a weapon infused with just lathandar's blood; i bet there would be a lot of talk about catapulting them to the top, or making them an idol of some kind, a la orin the red.
and ooooooh talking about defences specifically, i know i said they'd be raised not to make a fuss, but isobel and aylin would have to put a lot - and i mean a lot - of work into making sure they aren't captured to be venerated as gods-on-earth, or killed as sacrifices and/or abominations. it'd be a new kind of nightmare for aylin to consider her children being trapped in the shadowfell; isobel wouldn't want the nothingness of the fugue plane for them, either, not after dying herself.

Quillen runs
Quillen and Dartha escape from the grasp of the Greater Godspawn! Dartha belongs to a member of the Paper Demon Art RPG community. I did not create her, nor do I own her. I only borrowed the character, with permission, for my illustration.

a moment from the godspawn trilogy, where Deya has trapped a powerful creature with the intent to siphon it, and Kon attempts to stop him —
“Deya.” Kon spoke the name with the weight of a mountain. With molten rage and wintered hate, a scorched and desolate wasteland of a voice that forgave nothing and now asked for it all. Kon eased a step closer, hands still raised. “Don’t do this.”
Hungry thoughts screamed to claw out Deya’s eyes, shatter his nose and crunch in his skull, squeeze his throat until the trachea caved and blood swelled purple through his cheeks – but Kon had a patient gaze. Patient enough to peer through all that starving vengeance and see Deya’s expression clearly. It was scrunched, doubt-sheened, with a stiff jaw and darting eyes; relentlessly maintaining the spell, hesitating on the edge of its completion. Deya didn’t quite know what he wanted, but he wanted to do something.
Kon continued, “We’ll help you, alright? We’ll figure something out. But you damn everyone if you steal from the Incarnate…”
“You won’t ever understand,” Deya spat.
“Probably not.” Kon didn’t even know what he referred to.
“The Further is everything. It’s breath. And it’s your fault I lost it.”
It was, technically, but Kon refused to apologize for preventing the vengeful genocide of a long-imprisoned ancient – twice, he might add, and here’s hoping to a third – and explaining the bigger picture to a mourning, angry, once-sorcerer who held a burning matchstick was an insurmountable task. Especially for Kon, who recognized the grief, the anger, and the matchstick.
