'The Golden Girls' debuted 37 years ago today. This beloved series ran from 9/14/85 to 5/9/92, leaving us with 180 episodes that span 7 seasons. Our Lucille has a bit of a connection to this very popular show. During the first season of 'The Golden Girls', the producers wanted Lucille to guest star as Rose's sister Lily in the 'Blind Ambitions' episode. As we all know, that role went to Polly Holliday. Although Lucille and Gary were both fans of the show, Lucille declined, citing an impending dental procedure. In the book, 'Golden Girls Forever: An Unauthorized Look Behind the Lanai', Lucille's longtime friend, Thomas Watson, said there was another reason why Lucille decided to pass on the guest spot. Having just starred as a homeless woman in 'Stone Pillow', Lucy wanted her next project to be funny to satisfy her fans. "Lucy was afraid that having her name on the 'marquee' alongside those of Bea Arthur and Betty White, audiences would expect a delightful laughfest," Tom explains. And unfortunately, the role of Rose's blind sister "was anything but sidesplittingly funny." Lucy was also a guest in the studio audience for the taping of the GG episode 'Joust Between Friends'. Marvel Studios Recasting the Defenders Would Be a Huge Mistake Adam Barnhardt 04/19/2020 Let's face it — the characters that popped up in #TheDefenders will join the film side of the #MarvelCinematicUniverse at one point or another. It's not a matter of if, but a matter of when. With #Disney purchasing 20th Century Fox — an acquisition which resulted in the live-action rights to the #FantasticFour and X-Men libraries reverting back to the Mouse — #MarvelStudios is going to be pushing out more content than ever before. When the Defenders do make their way into development at Marvel Studios, the Kevin Feige-led outfit has plenty of options. Do they hard reboot all characters and storylines? Do they do a soft reboot and keep the actors, but ditch the storylines? Or what if they kept everything the way it currently is? That would mean they'd keep the same actors while the seasons on Netflix would remain canon. Whatever route they decide to go, there's one decision that stands out as the worst mistake the studio could make, and that's recasting the entire cast of the various Defenders shows. Recasting isn't something new to the #HouseofIdeas; after all, the studio grew tired of Edward Norton after just one movie and replaced him with Mark Ruffalo as one of the main Avengers. Even then, The Incredible Hulk didn't have the following or fanbase the vast majority of these DefendersVerse shows have. Look at Jon Bernthal's role as #FrankCastle. What other castings in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been as spot-on? The Bernthal/Punisher casting is right on-par with Robert Downey Jr.'s role as Tony Stark. In fact, it might be better. What about Charlie Cox's #MattMurdock?
